08-17-17 | Phillies +107 v. Giants | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 28 m | Show
6-unit Play Take #959 Philadelphia Phillies over San Francisco Giants (10:15pm EST) If you haven't been paying attention to what Aaron Nola of the Phillies is doing, you've been missing out. Nola has gone 10 straight starts allowing two runs or less, with at least six innings pitched in each outing. He's the first pitcher since 1893 to accomplish that feat - utterly amazing! That's astonishing consistency and he's clearly been the best pitcher in the National League over that stretch. Somehow we're able to get Nola and the Phillies at an underdog price against a terrible Giants team. Yes Philadelphia is in the basement in their division as well, but they've played better baseball in the second half. And with Nola on the hill, they won't need to get many runs off of Giants starter Jeff Samardzija. It's been a tough 2017 campaign for Samardzija, as he comes in at 7-12 with a 4.84 ERA. He's leaving far too many balls over the heart of the plate and there are several Phillies players swinging the bats well to take advantage. We're on the Phillies here today. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-16-17 | Orioles v. Mariners -115 | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 5 h 15 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #914 Seattle Mariners over Baltimore Orioles (3:40pm EST) Ubaldo Jimenez has somehow convinced the Orioles that he's rotation-worthy over the last few years. And this season, things have completely fallen apart for the veteran right-hander. Jimenez is carrying a robust 6.25 ERA and has been serving up gopher balls like they are drinks at parties. It's head scratching that Jimenez is still pitching in the majors, and even more so for a team that is still technically in wild card contention. Today he pitches in Seattle against a dangerous Mariners lineup. The M's go with newly-acquired Marco Gonzales from the Cardinals. Gonzales is a talented arm that St. Louis was never able to rein in, but he has great stuff and has the ability to get away with more mistakes in a park like Safeco. The O's lineup isn't the same on the road and they are just 24-38 away from Camden Yards this season. Take Seattle this afternoon. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-15-17 | Astros -119 v. Diamondbacks | 9-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 53 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #971 Houston Astros over Arizona Diamondbacks (3:40pm EST) The Astros have been road warriors with the best mark away from home this season at 39-21. Tonight they take on the Diamondbacks in Arizona. I like the pitching matchup here for Houston with Brad Peacock going up against Anthony Banda. Peacock hasn't gotten much attention, but is a sparking 10-1 with a 3.07 ERA this season and is striking out 11.4 batters per nine innings in the process. Banda is making just the fourth start of his big league career and this will certainly be his toughest test to date. Play Houston in this one at the short price. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-14-17 | Orioles v. Mariners +107 | 11-3 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 45 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #916 Seattle Mariners over Baltimore Orioles (10:10pm EST) We've done well fading the Orioles on the road this season and tonight we are going there again. The O's are an abysmal 23-37 away from Camden Yards this season and that's the sole reason they'll end up on the outside looking in when the playoffs start. Their roster isn't built to succeed in pitcher's parks and that's exactly where they'll be today in Safeco Field. Baltimore sends Kevin Gausman to the mound in this one. While he's pitched better of late, the young right-hander owns an awful 5.21 ERA on the season in 25 starts. Surprisingly, Gausman has pitched much better at home this season, and has a 5.86 ERA on the road. He'll get a tough Seattle lineup tonight that needs to redeem itself after getting swept by the Angels over the weekend. The Mariners counter with Yovani Gallardo. He's had his struggles this season as well (5.38 ERA), but Gallardo always seems to keep his team in the game. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last eight starts. The Orioles lineup doesn't hit nearly as well on the road, so I think Gallardo keeps them at bay tonight. Take the Mariners here. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-14-17 | Indians v. Red Sox -105 | Top | 7-3 | Loss | -105 | 7 h 46 m | Show |
10-unit Play Take #922 Boston Red Sox over Cleveland Indians (6:10pm EST) Red Sox starter Doug Fister struggled mightily early on but lately he's regained his old form. Over his last four outings, the veteran right-hander has a 3.57 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP and a 15-4 K-BB ratio. The Red Sox have been red hot of late, registering a 10-1 record over their last 11 contests. That included a huge series they just won in Yankee Stadium. The offense has been clicking and they've gotten some great efforts from the starting rotation and bullpen over the last few weeks. Today they play a makeup game against the Indians and the Red Sox and this one should favor Boston. The Indians have to travel up to Boston from Tampa to play this single game, before heading back on the road to Minnesota. It's obviously not an ideal situation for the Tribe, while the Red Sox just go back home from New York to get ready for this one. Cleveland sends Trevor Bauer to the bump today. Overall it's been a tough season for Bauer, but he has pitched much better of late. But today he gets a tougher challenge in Fenway Park against a surging BoSox lineup. I like Boston to get the job done in our MLB Game of the Week. |
08-13-17 | Pirates v. Blue Jays -130 | 1-7 | Win | 100 | 2 h 39 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #980 Toronto Blue Jays (-130) over Pittsburgh Pirates (1:05pm EST) We notched a winner with the Blue Jays yesterday and we're going back to them this afternoon. The Jays have won 11 of 18 and I like the pitching matchup for them in this one. Left-hander J.A. Happ makes the start for Toronto. While he hasn't been as impressive as he was last season, Happ still owns a very respectable 3.77 ERA in his 16 starts. That's in a tough AL East division that features several of the best offenses in the league in some tough parks to pitch. The Pirates go with right-hander Chad Kuhl. In 23 starts, Kuhl is 5-7 with a 4.53 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. It's somewhat surprising that he's stayed in the rotation all year long given some of his struggles. I like Toronto at home here. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-12-17 | Orioles v. A's -101 | 12-5 | Loss | -101 | 10 h 15 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #926 Oakland A's over Baltimore Orioles (9:05pm EST) Once again we'll fade the Baltimore Orioles on the road. The A's have actually been playing very competitive baseball in the second half and are just stuck in a very tough division. I also like the pitching matchup here for Oakland so that's where we are going today. |
08-12-17 | Red Sox +144 v. Yankees | 10-5 | Win | 144 | 5 h 16 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #915 Boston Red Sox over New York Yankees (4:05pm EST) The Red Sox and Yankees rivalry is back in full swing as they are battling for the AL East crown. You generally don't see lines this high when these two teams play, so took a hard look at the Red Sox. Luis Severino has got a ton of attention for his sensational season in the Bronx, but Drew Pomeranz hasn't been a slouch. In fact, his numbers are similar to Severino's in many areas. Left-handers also have an advantage in Yankees Stadium. We'll take Boston at the high price. |
08-12-17 | Pirates v. Blue Jays +100 | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 2 h 13 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #930 Toronto Blue Jays over Pittsburgh Pirates (1:05pm EST) This one is just a numbers game, as I have the line on this game about 15 cents higher. Chris Rowley goes for the Jays in his major league debut and I have them rated better than most. He has a shot at being a rotation stalwart, so we're taking Toronto. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-11-17 | Orioles v. A's -102 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 11 h 6 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #976 Oakland A's over Baltimore Orioles (10:05pm EST) This is yet another fade of the Baltimore Orioles on the road, where they are just 22-35 this season. The gas can that is Ubaldo Jimenez takes the mound for the O's today versus Paul Blackburn for Oakland. The youngster is 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA in seven starts and may be an example of another great A's hurler developing through their system. Take Oakland. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-11-17 | Mets -108 v. Phillies | 7-6 | Win | 100 | 8 h 12 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #953 New York Mets over Philadelphia Phillies (7:05pm EST) I really like what Seth Lugo brings to the table as a starting pitcher. Yes his numbers aren't very good yet, but he has one of the best spin rates in the big leagues and has the ability to truly baffle hitters. It's going to click for him at some point, and I want to be out in front of it when it happens. The Phils just got destroyed 10-0 yesterday versus the Mets, and we're thinking more of the same today. Play the Mets. |
08-10-17 | Indians v. Rays +128 | 1-4 | Win | 128 | 8 h 17 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #912 Tampa Bay Rays over Cleveland Indians (7:10pm EST) The Indians are in a tough spot after playing 12 innings last night against the Rockies. Now they travel to Tampa to take on a Ray's team that is never easy to beat in Tropicana. Everyone has been expecting the Rays to eventually falter, but they are in the thick of the wild card race. I like Tampa here. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-10-17 | Mets v. Phillies +141 | 10-0 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 11 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #906 Philadelphia Phillies over New York Mets (7:05pm EST) The Phillies and Mets aren't playing for anything down the stretch, but that doesn't mean we can't make a little bit of money here. The Phils have been playing much better baseball after an atrocious start to the season. Over the last 22 games, Philadelphia is 13-9. Odubel Herrera has been mashing and the offense all of a sudden has some life. They'll have a challenge today versus Jacob deGrom, but he hasn't been as sharp over the last few weeks. Vincent Velasquez goes for the Phils. It hasn't been a good season for Velasquez, but he's been getting better as the season has progressed. Injuries were a factor early on, but Velasquez is throwing it well and I think he can keep Philadelphia in this one. Take the Phils as a home underdog. |
08-09-17 | Orioles v. Angels +121 | Top | 1-5 | Win | 121 | 6 h 38 m | Show |
10-unit Play Take #964 Los Angeles Angels over Baltimore Orioles (3:35pm EST) We notched a winner with the Angels last night and are going back to the well again here tonight. The Orioles are just a different team on the road, and are just 21-34 away from Camden this season. The Angels are quietly still in the playoff hunt, led by superstar Mike Trout. Kevin Gausman gets the ball for the O's today and he's basically been a bust. Big things were expected of the right-hander, but Gausman comes in with a hefty 5.15 ERA. You could assume that a lot of that damage, but he actually has been much worse on the road this season (5.77 ERA). The Angels counter with youngster Troy Scribner. This will be just the second big league start for Scribner, but he's a crafty hurler who knows how to pitch. This price is at least 10 cents off, so we're on the Halos again Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-08-17 | Orioles v. Angels -112 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 12 h 34 m | Show |
10-unit Play Take #920 Los Angeles Angels over Baltimore Orioles (10:05pm EST) The Los Angeles Angels have been flying under the radar a bit this season. They're probably not going to be a playoff team (although they are only three games out of the second wild card), but Halos are a respectable 55-58 on the season and that includes missing Mike Trout for over a month. Parker Bridwell gets the ball for them tonight against the Orioles. Bridwell is 5-1 with a 3.20 ERA in 59 innings of work. He doesn't have overpowering stuff, but he induces weak contact and doesn't get himself into too much trouble. The newly-acquired Jeremy Hellickson goes for Baltimore. His numbers in Philadelphia this season were not good, and I don't think coming over to Baltimore is going to help at all. The Angels are a better team right now and the O's have really struggled on the road at 21-33. Play the Halos at home today. |
08-08-17 | Cardinals v. Royals +112 | 10-3 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 45 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #930 Kansas City Royals over St. Louis Cardinals (8:15pm EST) It's hard to believe that the Kansas City Royals are the team in playoff position and the Cardinals are the team probably on the outs. But he we are and you have to give the Royals credit. This team just doesn't give up and they have better chemistry than any other squad in the majors. I like the pitching matchup today for Kansas City as a home underdog. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-07-17 | Padres v. Reds -109 | Top | 3-11 | Win | 100 | 8 h 42 m | Show |
10-unit Play Take #954 Cincinnati Reds over San Diego Padres (7:10pm EST) We're into the dog days of the summer and the San Diego Padres may be a little more gassed than usual for today's game. That's because they played 12 innings yesterday in Pittsburgh and had to jump on a plane to Cincinnati afterwards. To make matters worse, they lost 5-4 on a walk-off home run by Sean Rodriguez, who just returned to the Pirates. The Pads have exceeded expectations this season in the win column, but they do have the worst run differential in baseball by a pretty wide margin. The Reds have been in the NL Central cellar for most of the season, but they've held their own at home (26-30). Take the Reds in today's matchup. |
08-07-17 | Tigers +146 v. Pirates | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 36 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #959 Detroit Tigers over Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05pm EST) This one is mostly about Jordan Zimmermann. He's coming off of his best start of the season in what has been a tumultuous year. Zimmermann still has an ugly 5.35 ERA, but he's thrown the ball better of late in some really tough spots. Four of his last five starts have been on the road, including games against the Yankees, Astros and Indians. Today he gets the Pirates, who are just 5-9 over their last 14 games. Pittsburgh just hasn't got it going in 2017 and management hasn't done enough to try and improve the club over the last few years. Pittsburgh is definitely the better team, but this line is at least 10-15 cents too high. Play Detroit. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-06-17 | Diamondbacks +112 v. Giants | 3-6 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 33 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #913 Arizona Diamondbacks over San Francisco Giants (4:05pm EST) It's been a nightmare season for the San Francisco Giants and the same can be said of today's starter Jeff Samardzija. The veteran right-hander owns an ugly 4.77 ERA in 22 starts. His peripherals are good overall, but Samardzija may be the rare case of a pitcher having too low of a walk rate. He's walking just 1.2 batters per nine innings, but leaving far too many balls in the middle of the zone for hitters. The Diamondbacks have been playing great baseball for most of the 2017 campaign and they just won a series against the red hot Cubs. Getting an underdog price in this one is a gift, so we're on the Snakes. |
08-06-17 | Tigers v. Orioles -148 | 3-12 | Win | 100 | 2 h 1 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #918 Baltimore Orioles over Detroit Tigers (1:35pm EST) We've cashed a lot of tickets with the Orioles at home this season, as they own a 34-23 mark in Camden Yards this season. The Tigers are a bit decimated after trading away several key cogs before the deadline. The O's surprisingly added to their roster and think they can sneak into a wild card spot. I wouldn't count Buck Showalter's team out. Take Baltimore today. |
08-06-17 | Yankees v. Indians -112 | 8-1 | Loss | -112 | 2 h 37 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #916 Cleveland Indians over New York Yankees (1:10pm EST) Carlos Carrasco doesn't get a lot of attention. He pitches in a small market and is also overshadowed by club ace Corey Kluber. But the fact of the matter is that Carrasco is a top 15 pitcher in baseball. He's 10-4 with a 3.89 ERA this season and still hasn't even found a groove yet. The Yankees counter with Luis Severino, who has had a great season but may be pitching a bit over his head. The Indians are the better overall club here and this price is more than fair at home. Play the Tribe. |
08-06-17 | Brewers v. Rays -160 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 2 h 34 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #930 Tampa Bay Rays over Milwaukee Brewers (1:10pm EST) We like the spot for the Rays here this afternoon. We think we are getting the better team, with the better pitcher at a reasonable price. I still don't think the Brewers can hang in the NL Central long term and they may have just received a blow with Travis Shaw getting injured yesterday. Play Tampa. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-05-17 | Padres +142 v. Pirates | 5-2 | Win | 142 | 9 h 32 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #955 San Diego Padres over Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05pm EST) I have to admit that I've been a little bit surprised by the San Diego Padres this season. They're only 12 games below the .500 mark and have been a great play as an underdog. The Pirates have slowly begun to fall out of the playoff chase and this is likely a lost season. Try San Diego today. |
08-05-17 | Brewers v. Rays -137 | 3-0 | Loss | -137 | 7 h 15 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #980 Tampa Bay Rays over Milwaukee Brewers (6:10pm EST) I really like what I've seen from Alex Cobb outside of his last outing. Last time out he gave up eight runs on nine hits in three innings. However, we'll throw that one out because it was in Houston against the Astros. Before that, Cobb strung together a four-start stretch that was reminiscent of a few years ago. The Brewers are finally coming back to earth and I think they fall short in this contest. Play Tampa. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-05-17 | Dodgers v. Mets +201 | 7-4 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 13 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #954 New York Mets over Los Angeles Dodgers (4:05pm EST) Yes the Dodgers are on a roll, but these prices continue to get ridiculous. The Mets aren't chopped liver and they have the talented Seth Lugo pitching for them at home today. His numbers aren't great, but Lugo has tremendous stuff and has the ability to baffle big league hitters. The Mets are worth a bet here at this big price. |
08-05-17 | Nationals v. Cubs -168 | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 3 h 29 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #952 Chicago Cubs over Washington Nationals (2:20pm EST) The Cubs have now lost three straight and we missed with a big play on them yesterday. However, today they get Edwin Jackson and that should help break the mini losing streak. Jackson owns a career 4.63 ERA and he's not going to get miraculously better at age 33. Jackson has logged 24 innings of work this season, and the peripheral numbers haven't been good. He has a 6.90 FIP and is only striking out 5.2 batters per nine innings. John Lackey gets the ball for the Cubs and he's looked good over his last three starts with a 2.81 ERA. The bullpens will likely play a big role in this game with neither starter expected to go deep. Chicago has a big edge there and I like the Cubs today. |
08-04-17 | Mariners v. Royals +150 | 5-2 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 58 m | Show
5-unit Play Take #926 Kansas City Royals over Seattle Mariners (8:15pm EST) The Kansas City Royals have been on a mission to get back to the postseason. They are on an 11-4 run which included nine straight victories. They got swept against the O's, but playing in Camden Yards is no picnic. The Royals are a great team at home and this is a great price to be receiving. The Mariners have James Paxton going, which will be no easy task for the Royals. However, Kansas City usually fares well against hard-throwers. Take the Royals at home today. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-04-17 | Nationals v. Cubs -159 | 4-2 | Loss | -159 | 3 h 60 m | Show
7-unit Play Take #902 Chicago Cubs over Washington Nationals (2:20pm EST) The Chicago Cubs are on a roll since the All-Star Break with a 14-5 record. The offense is stepping up and, most importantly, the starting pitching has returned to its form from last year. Kyle Hendricks missed significantly time this season and the Cubs are glad to have him back. He hasn't been going very deep into games since his return, but Hendricks has looked crisp. In fact, the right-hander allowed just one run in each of his outings without issuing a single free pass in 9.1 total innings of work. The Nationals have had the NL East wrapped up for quite some time, so it may be hard to stay motivated in the second half. The Nats have dropped four of six, but they should be up for this series in Chicago. This is likely a playoff preview of the NLDS in October. Tanner Roark goes for Washington today and he's had a really tough time of it in 2017. Roark comes in with a 4.93 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. He's shown flashes of brilliance at times this season, but something isn't quite right with him. With the way the Cubs have been swinging the bats, I'd be surprised if he completes six innings this afternoon. Take Chicago in our big 7-unit selection. |
08-03-17 | Tigers v. Orioles -134 | Top | 7-5 | Loss | -134 | 9 h 15 m | Show |
10-unit Play Take #962 Baltimore Orioles over Detroit Tigers (7:05pm EST) The Baltimore Orioles have won five straight games as they try to get back into the wild card race in the American League. The O's have been dominant at home this season, posting a 33-21 mark (the most wins in the AL). The Tigers roster is depleted after the trade deadline. They traded away JD Martinez along with Justin Wilson and Alex Avila. This line should be about 10-15 cents higher, so we're on Baltimore today. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-02-17 | Rays +173 v. Astros | 3-0 | Win | 173 | 10 h 21 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #923 Tampa Bay Rays over Houston Astros (8:10pm EST) The Astros are really banged up right now, with Carlos Correa and George Springer out amongst others. Dallas Keuchel gets the call tonight and he just made comments that he's disappointed in what the organization did at the trade deadline. That may have the team a little down, so we'll see what kind of energy they have with Keuchel on the hill. Tampa Bay has been cashing a lot of bets as underdogs this year, and I think this price is way too high. Play the Rays in this one. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-02-17 | Diamondbacks v. Cubs -138 | 3-0 | Loss | -138 | 10 h 18 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #908 Chicago Cubs over Arizona Diamondbacks (8:05pm EST) The Chicago Cubs are absolutely rolling now and the hottest team in the league outside of the Dodgers. The Cubbies are 14-3 since the All-Star Break and are coming of a 16-4 thrashing of the Diamondbacks last night. Arizona made three errors in that game and looked awful in every phase of the game. They've really slowed down lately after a hot start, going 7-10 since the break. Jake Arrieta gets the ball in this one against Zack Godley, and that's advantage Chicago. Take the Cubs at home tonight. |
08-01-17 | Twins -104 v. Padres | 0-3 | Loss | -104 | 12 h 44 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #979 Minnesota Twins over San Diego Padres (10:10pm EST) The Padres' young players have been getting better, but I like the young players the Twins put out there a lot more. Jose Berrios is a much better pitcher than Jhoulys Chacin, so we see value on Minnesota. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
08-01-17 | Cardinals +106 v. Brewers | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 13 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #957 St. Louis Cardinals over Milwaukee Brewers (7:40pm EST) The St. Louis Cardinals didn't make any big additions at the trade deadline, but they weren't sellers either. I think people are giving up a little bit too soon on the Cards. They aren't out of it yet and have the veterans to make a run. Meanwhile, the Brewers are just 5-11 since the All-Star Break and are fading fast. This is a young team that clearly couldn't handle the pressure of maintaining a division lead. St. Louis goes with Carlos Martinez today and he's been pretty steady once again. Milwaukee's Jimmy Nelson is having a really nice season, but I'm not sure he can keep it going. He's posting career highs in several categories. I like the Cards as underdogs today. |
08-01-17 | Dodgers v. Braves +164 | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 7 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #956 Atlanta Braves over Los Angeles Dodgers (7:35pm EST) Yes the Los Angeles Dodgers are on fire right now, but these betting lines are starting to get a little out of hand. Kenta Maeda has a 4.09 ERA and is laying over -180 on the road - and it's not like the Braves are a terrible team. Atlanta sends rookie Lucas Sims to make his major league debut today. It's obviously going to be a difficult task for him tonight, but I think he'll have the upper hand the first time or two through the batting order. Play the Braves as big home underdogs today. |
07-31-17 | Indians v. Red Sox +107 | 2-6 | Win | 107 | 9 h 30 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #910 Boston Red Sox over Cleveland Indians (7:10pm EST) It isn't often that the Red Sox are underdogs at home, especially when someone like Mike Clevinger. Yes the Cleveland right-hander has put up good numbers this season, but his 3.20 ERA is deceiving. He's been fortunate with a .252 BABIP and has a FIP at 4.17. The Red Sox bats have picked up in the second half and they should give Doug Fister some decent support. Fister might need it as he's been having a rough time of it with a 7.46 ERA in limited work. Fister's last two outings were out of the bullpen and I'm confident he'll be better in the starting role this time around. Take Boston as a rare home underdog. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-31-17 | Royals v. Orioles -101 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 8 h 24 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #906 Baltimore Orioles over Kansas City Royals (7:05pm EST) We like the Orioles when they are at home, where they are 30-21 this season. The Royals are red hot, but they just got through a tough series with the Red Sox. This series against Baltimore will be less intense and I think the Orioles get the series opener. Play the O's. |

07-30-17 | Orioles v. Rangers -113 | 10-6 | Loss | -113 | 4 h 51 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #976 Texas Rangers over Baltimore Orioles (3:05pm EST) The Orioles have been a disaster on the road this season (19-33) and it's not easy playing in Arlington in the middle of the summer. Wade Miley makes the start for the O's today and he's really struggled at 4-9 with a 5.69 ERA. He's been even worse on the road, sporting a 6.26 ERA over 54.2 innings of work. The Rangers have been hitting the ball well, led by future Hall of Famer Adrian Beltre. I'd be surprise if Miley makes it past the fifth inning tonight. Texas counters with Martin Perez, who isn't having a great year either but he's kept his team in the game for most of his starts. We see value on the Rangers. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-29-17 | Rays v. Yankees -153 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 1 h 0 m | Show |
8-unit Play Take #916 New York Yankees (-150) over Tampa Bay Rays (1:05pm EST) Yankees' rookie pitcher Caleb Smith has a 8.10 ERA in just 6.2 innings of work, but manager Joe Girardi said that Smith ?earned another turn in the rotation.? The 26-year old throws hard and has some pretty good stuff. He struck out seven batters in those 6.2 innings and has strong strikeout numbers in the minor leagues at every level. This will be his first outing at home. The Yankees are second in the AL in runs scored and at home they have a league-best .833 OPS with 84 home runs (also tops in the AL). Needless to say, this lineup likes to hit here. Blake Snell of the Rays was supposed to be a potential ace and he still may be at some point. But right now he's a little lost out there on the mound. Snell is 0-6 with a 4.86 ERA and he's walking 5.4 batters per nine innings. Over his last five starts, Snell has issued 16 free passes in just 26.2 innings. His ERA over that span is 6.08 ERA. The Rays as a team are in a slump as well. Tampa is just 2-7 over their last nine contests and all but two of those games were at home. This is a big series for both teams, but I think the Yankees have a pretty big edge in this one. The line is about 20-25 cents short of where it should be, so we're on the Yankees in our AL Game of the Year. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-28-17 | Pirates -129 v. Padres | 2-3 | Loss | -129 | 11 h 23 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #963 Pittsburgh Pirates over San Diego Padres (10:10pm EST) The Pittsburgh Pirates have been playing much better baseball after getting Starling Marte back in the lineup. They look to be buyers before the trade deadline and are only four games back in the NL Central. The Padres have been playing better overall lately, but this is still a very young team and I expect some of the rookies to hit a wall here soon. Take Pittsburgh at a favorable price today. |
07-28-17 | Mets v. Mariners -147 | 7-5 | Loss | -147 | 11 h 20 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #980 Seattle Mariners over New York Mets (10:10pm EST) The New York Mets just traded away Lucas Duda and there will likely be other departures soon. The Mariners still believe they have hope for a wild card spot and are looking for more pieces. I like the pitching matchup today for Seattle, so that's the direction we are going. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-28-17 | Twins -108 v. A's | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 16 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #977 Minnesota Twins over Oakland A's (10:05pm EST) The Oakland A's are coming off of a tough 8-4 loss in extra innings in Toronto yesterday. Now they're all the way back on the West Coast at home to host the Twins. The Twins, meanwhile, had a day off yesterday after playing in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. Great spot for Minnesota so we're on the Twinkies tonight. |
07-28-17 | Orioles v. Rangers -134 | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 9 h 17 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #974 Texas Rangers over Baltimore Orioles (8:05pm EST) The Orioles have been abysmal on the road this season (18-32) and playing in Texas in July is no picnic. I've also lost all faith in Chris Tillman and his enormous 7.01 ERA. His peripherals say that he's very deserving of that ERA and it doesn't appear that things are going to get markedly better. The Rangers send Andrew Cashner to the mound and he's put up a respectable 3.64 ERA in 16 starts. I like the Rangers to get the job done today in Arlington. |
07-27-17 | A's +175 v. Blue Jays | 4-8 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 55 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #911 Oakland A's over Toronto Blue Jays (12:35pm EST) The Blue Jay and A's are both out of the playoff picture and are both more focused on what they can get at the trade deadline. I like both of these starting pitchers (Sean Manaea versus Marcus Stroman) and can see this game going either way. As a result, we like Oakland at the nice big price. |
07-26-17 | Marlins v. Rangers -200 | 22-10 | Loss | -200 | 10 h 52 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #976 Texas Rangers over Miami Marlins (8:05pm EST) Yu Darvish has been throwing the ball really well of late despite the swirling trade rumors. He'll go up against a Marlins team that hasn't seen much of Darvish, so I think he'll dominate the early innings. The price is big, but I really like Texas to get the job done today Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-26-17 | Pirates +129 v. Giants | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 32 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #953 Pittsburgh Pirates over San Francisco Giants (3:45pm EST) The Pirates are one of the hottest teams in baseball, reeling off eight of 12 since the All-Star Break. Getting Starling Marte back has been huge and Andrew McCutchen continues to show us why he's one of the best in the game. The Giants are done for in 2017 and will likely be trading away some veterans in the coming days. This line is too heavy in the Giants' favor, so we're on Pittsburgh today. |
07-25-17 | Twins +162 v. Dodgers | 2-6 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 28 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #929 Minnesota Twins over Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10pm EST) Yes the Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in baseball. Yes they are far superior to the Twins. However, pitching is the great equalizer and Minnesota has the edge on the mound tonight. Jose Berrios is 9-3 with a 3.50 ERA in the tougher American League. We'll take another crack with the Twins at the big price. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-25-17 | Braves v. Diamondbacks -148 | 8-3 | Loss | -148 | 11 h 59 m | Show
5-unit Play Take #906 Arizona Diamondbacks over Atlanta Braves (9:40pm EST) The Arizona Diamondbacks have the second best record at home in all of baseball at 35-17. The D-Backs aren't getting a ton of respect just yet however. They are clearly a much better team than the Braves, yet this doesn't reflect it. Taijuan Walker is a better pitcher than Mike Foltynewicz, so I have this line nearly 25 cents higher. Take Arizona. |
07-25-17 | Orioles +109 v. Rays | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 31 m | Show |
10-unit Play Take #918 Tampa Bay Rays over Baltimore Orioles (7:10pm EST) It's hard not to respect what the Tampa Bay Rays have done with no superstars on their roster. Manager Kevin Cash utilizes all 25 guys on his squad and they're getting production from a lot of different spots right now. However, they've lost five straight games and really need a win today before things start to unravel. Jake Faria makes his ninth start of his career tonight in Tampa against the O's and he's been great so far in his rookie campaign. He has good stuff and is pitching like a veteran at the tender age of 23. The O's counter with Wade Miley, who has really struggled in 2017. Miley checks in with a 5.58 ERA and has had some major control problems. He's walking 5.4 batters per nine innings and it's gotten worse of late. In addition, the O's have really struggled away from Camden Yards this season (18-30). Take Tampa tonight in our 7-unit MLB Game of the Month. |
07-24-17 | Twins +212 v. Dodgers | 4-6 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 57 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #973 Minnesota Twins over Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10pm EST) The Los Angeles Dodgers were dealt a blow yesterday when Clayton Kershaw tweaked his back. He'll likely end up on the disabled list while fans hold their breath for constant updates. This team knows they are in the postseason and just staying healthy is the number one goal right now. We may see a little bit lack of focus for a series opener against the Minnesota Twins tonight. Bartolo Colon gets the ball for Minnesota and, despite a bad year, he's always capable of keeping the game close if he's hitting his spots. The Dodgers go with Hyun-Jin Ryu and he's making his first big league start in over a month after missing time with a foot injury. I don't think he should be laying this big of a price in his first start back, so we're on the Twins at this high price. |
07-24-17 | Braves v. Diamondbacks -194 | 2-10 | Win | 100 | 9 h 29 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #954 Arizona Diamondbacks over Atlanta Braves (9:40pm EST) Zack Greinke pitching at home has been a very good bet over the years no matter what uniform he has been in. This season Greinke is 9-0 in Chase Field with a 2.41 ERA (versus 2-4 with a 3.75 ERA on the road). The Braves lost a tough one yesterday in Los Angeles in extra innings 6-5. They send R.A. Dickey to the hill for this matchup and I don't like their chances. The Diamondbacks are a splendid 34-17 at home this season and have hit really well in front of the home fans. Take Arizona. |
07-24-17 | Marlins v. Rangers -141 | 4-0 | Loss | -141 | 8 h 53 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #972 Texas Rangers over Miami Marlins (8:05pm EST) The body language for the Marlins isn't very good right now. They're just 3-6 since the break and Giancarlo Stanton publicly ripped his team a week ago after dropping a series to the Phillies. Things are likely to get worse before they get better, so Miami is a good fade right now. The Rangers are still in the gray area as to whether or not they sell before the trade deadline. They're still just 2.5 games out of the second wild card and have a favorable schedule over the last two months. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they stood pat and ended up making a run to stay in the playoff mix. Take the Rangers to get the job done tonight behind Martin Perez. |
07-24-17 | Reds v. Indians -174 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 56 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #972 Cleveland Indians over Cincinnati Reds (7:10pm EST) The Indians are just six games over the .500 mark, but their underlying statistics are much better than that. The Reds are figuring out who they are going to move at the deadline and are just 2-8 over their last 10 games. The line is a bit high, but we like Cleveland. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-23-17 | Cardinals v. Cubs -157 | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 9 h 54 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #914 Chicago Cubs over St. Louis Cardinals (8:05pm EST) Jose Quintana was sharp in his Cubs debut last time out with seven scoreless innings on just three hits. He also struck out 12 batters while walking zero. The Cardinals haven't seen Quintana much, so he'll have the edge the first couple of times through the order. The Cubs have won seven of eight and look more focused than they've been at any point this season. The Cardinals are still trying to find themselves and there's a chance they are selling at the deadline if they don't make up a little bit of ground over the next week. Michael Wacha gets the ball today. He's coming off of a complete game shutout masterpiece of his own. However, he did throw 119 pitches in that outing versus the Mets. We'll see how much gas he left in the tank, bu I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make it past five innings tonight. Take the Cubs to win this matchup. |
07-23-17 | Yankees v. Mariners -112 | 6-4 | Loss | -112 | 5 h 1 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #928 Seattle Mariners over New York Yankees (4:10pm EST) We cashed with Seattle last night and go there again and what looks like a pretty generous line. I like the pitching matchup (Yovani Gallardo vs. Luis Cessa) and the Yanks have struggled on the road this season. Go Mariners. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-23-17 | White Sox v. Royals -122 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 3 h 5 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #924 Kansas City Royals over Chicago White Sox (2:15pm EST) The Kansas City Royals just won't die. It's in their DNA to stick around and stay in the mix. They've reeled off four straight wins and are within striking distance (one game) of the wild card spots in the AL. The White Sox are a mess after dismantling their team. They've lost eight straight and it's going to continue to be a struggle. Play the Royals. |
07-23-17 | Astros v. Orioles +135 | 7-9 | Win | 135 | 2 h 24 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #920 Baltimore Orioles over Houston Astros (1:35pm EST) Everyone is on board the Houston Astros' train. They have been the best team in the AL all year and don't look to have any major weaknesses. However, I think they are going to be a good fade at times in the second half. They already have the division sewn up and it's hard to imagine them playing at the level they are for an entire season. They are in Baltimore tonight and that's not an easy place to play. The O's are 29-21 in Camden Yards this year despite being five games under .500 on the season overall. This line is a bit too high, so we're on Baltimore. |
07-22-17 | Yankees v. Mariners +130 | 5-6 | Win | 130 | 10 h 1 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #978 Seattle Mariners over New York Yankees (9:10pm EST) Big home/road splits for both of these teams, so we like the Mariners as a home underdog. New York has not won a series since June and that will stay in effect through Sunday in this game. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-22-17 | Pirates +117 v. Rockies | 3-7 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 2 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #959 Pittsburgh Pirates over Colorado Rockies (8:10pm EST) Another team that's on a roll is the Pittsburgh Pirates. They've won six straight and are back in the playoff picture in the NL Central. Getting Starling Marte was a big boost for Pittsburgh and Andrew McCutchen has been tearing it up over the last two months. The Rockies aren't playing as well as they did earlier in the season, as the effect of new manager Bud Black could be wearing off a little bit. I like the pitching matchup here for the Pirates. In addition, they only had to use two pitchers in last night's game versus five pitchers for the Rockies. That could be huge in today's matchup, so we're on Pittsburgh. |
07-22-17 | Cardinals v. Cubs -151 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 58 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #952 Chicago Cubs over St. Louis Cardinals (4:05pm EST) The Cardinals ended the Cubs' winning streak yesterday at six games. Chicago led most of the way until giving up an amazing nine runs in an ugly 8th inning. I think the Cubs will be the team putting up crooked numbers today, as Adam Wainwright is on the hill for St. Louis. The last two seasons have been dreadful for the veteran right-hander and the Cubs have hit Wainwright well in recent years. Jon Lester goes for the Cubbies and he looked great in his first start back after the break. Take the surging Cubs today. |
07-21-17 | Marlins v. Reds -108 | Top | 3-1 | Loss | -108 | 10 h 20 m | Show |
10-unit Play Take #906 Cincinnati Reds over Miami Marlins (7:10pm EST) It's been a tough season for the Miami Marlins and the frustration finally came on a couple days ago. Giancarlo Stanton voiced his disgust with the team losing a series to the lowly Phillies after a 10-3 thrashing on Wednesday. Stanton commented in the postgame, ?If you can't win a series against the worst team in the league, there's not much going for you, right there.? The Marlins have now dropped five of six and the team is looking to move several players. Pitcher David Phelps was just moved to the Mariners and there are several teams eyeing AJ Ramos. Even several big names like Marcel Ozuna, Christian Yelich and Stanton have been discussed by some teams. Clearly the team isn't very focused right now and it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. The picture isn't too much brighter in Cincinnati, but at least there doesn't appear to be any unrest in the locker room. Take the Reds to get the job done in our MLB Game of the Week. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-20-17 | Tigers v. Royals +102 | 4-16 | Win | 102 | 9 h 19 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #966 Kansas City Royals over Detroit Tigers (8:15pm EST) We scored a victory with Kansas City yesterday and like them again for the same reasons. The Royals are a very tough out at home and Detroit has really struggled on the road. We get a good pitching matchup (Michael Fulmer vs. Danny Duffy) but I think the Royals come out on top in the end. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-20-17 | Blue Jays v. Red Sox -112 | 8-6 | Loss | -112 | 3 h 39 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #962 Boston Red Sox over Toronto Blue Jays (1:35pm EST) The Red Sox have won three of four after the All-Star Break and they are well-positioned to expand their lead over the Rays and Yankees. The schedule is a little bit easier in the second half and the pitching staff continues to dazzle. The bats have been inconsistent, but Boston is still fifth in the AL in runs scored this season. Doug Fister is slated to go on Thursday. He hasn't been very good, but he hasn't pitched many innings yet. Fister is a rhythm guy and I think he'll get it going with time. The Jays are thinking about who they're going to sell at the deadline, so the focus is on future years. Francisco Liriano hasn't been much better than Fister numbers-wise, so the offenses and bullpens are probably going to decide this one. I like the Red Sox in that case. Play Boston today. |
07-19-17 | Tigers v. Royals -102 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 41 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #924 Kansas City Royals over Detroit Tigers (8:15pm EST) There's no reason for the Tigers to be laying a price on the road with Justin Verlander on the hill. Verlander has been a mess all season long and the betting markets still haven't fully adjusted. The Royals are a tough out at home and I think there's value on them here. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-19-17 | Brewers +144 v. Pirates | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 34 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #907 Milwaukee Brewers over Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05pm EST) After building what seemed to be a pretty comfortable lead, the Milwaukee Brewers can now feel the Cubs breathing down their necks in the NL Central race. Not many people think the Brewers can hold on, but they absolutely need a win tonight to get things back on track and I really like their chances against Gerrit Cole. Things have fallen apart for Cole in 2017. He's putting up career worst numbers in almost every category, including a 4.35 ERA. Over his last three starts, Cole owns an ugly 5.71 ERA and those outings weren't against very good offenses (Giants, Phillies and Cardinals). The Brewers send Zach Davies, who has also struggled in 2017 with a 5.08 ERA. He's not on par with Cole overall, but this line is a bit too high considering how both pitchers have struggled. Take Milwaukee. |
07-19-17 | Padres v. Rockies -170 | 4-18 | Win | 100 | 5 h 40 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #906 Colorado Rockies over San Diego Padres (3:10pm EST) We scored a victory last night with Colorado and we like them again here today. The Rockies are a great play at home in Coors (28-18) and the Padres have struggled mightily on the road (16-30) this season. I also like the pitching matchup here for Colorado with Jon Gray going up against Clayton Richard. Gray is MUCH better than his 6.23 ERA indicates. That was over just six starts and his FIP is at 3.60. Take the Rockies today. |
07-18-17 | Indians -131 v. Giants | 1-2 | Loss | -131 | 12 h 35 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #979 Cleveland Indians over San Francisco Giants (10:15pm EST) The Giants' season is already over and the Indians have been playing tremendous baseball after a very slow start to the season. Mike Clevinger has been pitching extremely well for the Tribe. He has a 1.67 ERA over his last five starts. I'm not a fan of Ty Blach of the Giants as he's striking out a terrible 4.2 batters per nine. That's not going to cut it at the big league level. Take Cleveland. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-18-17 | Rays -106 v. A's | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 26 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #973 Tampa Bay Rays over Oakland A's (10:05pm EST) The Tampa Bay Rays have been defying the odds in 2017 and it's time to start taking them seriously. The A's are looking to unload before the deadline and have already traded away a couple of their best relievers. Youngster Blake Snell hasn't put it all together yet, but he has terrific stuff and looked good last time out versus the Cubs before the break. I like the Rays today. |
07-18-17 | Padres v. Rockies -138 | 7-9 | Win | 100 | 10 h 3 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #962 Colorado Rockies over San Diego Padres (8:40pm EST) The Colorado Rockies have been a mess on the road lately, but they love it in Coors Field. The Rocks are 27-18 in Denver this season and the Padres come in at 16-29 on the road. This one should be easy, so we're on Colorado. |
07-18-17 | Tigers v. Royals -104 | 9-3 | Loss | -104 | 10 h 37 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #972 Kansas City Royals over Detroit Tigers (8:15pm EST) The Detroit Tigers have nearly half of their roster being rumored in trade talks right now. That can't be good for the team's focus in Kansas City. The Royals are starting to fade a bit, but this team has more heart than any else and isn't going out without a fight. We're going with Kansas City here. |
07-18-17 | Diamondbacks -141 v. Reds | 11-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 33 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #957 Arizona Diamondbacks over Cincinnati Reds (7:10pm EST) Good spot here for the Diamondbacks. They got the day off yesterday and go to Cincinnati to take on a struggling Reds squad. The Reds have dropped four straight, getting outscored by a whopping 35-12 margin. Arizona sends Robbie Ray to the hill and he's been magnificent in 2017. He doesn't get a ton of credit, but the young left-hander is 8-4 with a 2.97 ERA and is striking out a strong 12.0 strikeouts per nine innings. Cincinnati counters with rookie Sal Ramano, who will be making just the third start of his career. He has decent stuff but still has a lot to learn in the major leagues. This line should be about 10 cents higher, so we're taking the D-backs today. |
07-16-17 | New York Yankees - Game #2 +123 v. Boston Red Sox - Game #2 | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 28 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #977 New York Yankees over Boston Red Sox (8:05pm EST) Please note that this is Game #2 of the doubleheader featuring Masahiro Tanaka vs. David Price. The Yankees have baffled Price in recent years and there's no reason to believe that changes today. Price just doesn't come through in big games and that Yankees lineup is certainly a dangerous one. While they've cooled off over the last month or so, New York still has a balanced approach from one thru nine that rivals just about anyone other than the Astros. I think Price struggles to get thru five innings and the Yanks roll here. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-16-17 | Rockies v. Mets -124 | 13-4 | Loss | -124 | 2 h 34 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #956 New York Mets over Colorado Rockies (1:10pm EST) Since the Colorado Rockies have become a franchise, they've always struggled on the road. Some call it the ?Coors Effect?, but there's clearly something to it. The Rockies were off to a good start on the road this season, but things have fallen apart of late. Colorado is now 2-13 over their last 15 road games and there are some lopsided losers in there. They've been outscored 23-5 alone in the two games in New York since the break. The Mets will be sellers at the trade deadline, but they never really had a chance this season. Injuries plagued the team from day one, although it is getting better. Just having Yoenis Cespedes in the lineup every day is a huge boost, and their offense certainly has woken up in the last two contests. I like the pitching matchup (Steven Matz vs. Jeff Hoffman) for the Mets today, and that's where we are putting our money. |
07-15-17 | Twins v. Astros -156 | 4-2 | Loss | -156 | 10 h 56 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #920 Houston Astros over Minnesota Twins (7:10pm EST) Fading the lucky Minnesota Twins is a good strategy for the second half. Somehow they managed to stay above .500 despite being outscored by 60 runs in the first half. That won't continue. Houston is on a mission and they should have no problem tonight. Play the Astros. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-15-17 | Dodgers v. Marlins +162 | 7-1 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 55 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #908 Miami Marlins over Los Angeles Dodgers (7:10pm EST) The second half of the season in many ways is a period of regression to the mean. Many teams are off to very fast starts and others have gone in the other direction. The Dodgers posted an amazing .678 win percentage in the first half, putting them on pace for 110 wins. That's not likely to happen. It's also not likely that today's starter Alex Wood will go 20-0 with a 1.67 ERA. He's half way there, but he's several standard deviations better than his career best. Wood will slow down. The Marlins, meanwhile, are looking to sell at the deadline as they're basically out of the playoff picture. These teams will tend to be underrated in the second half, as bettors don't want to place their money on teams that don't have the incentive to win. That's often times a mistake. I think there's tremendous value on the Miami at home in this one. |
07-15-17 | Diamondbacks +100 v. Braves | 5-8 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 52 m | Show
5-unit Play Take #909 Arizona Diamondbacks over Atlanta Braves (7:10pm EST) These teams are much further apart than the betting lines have indicated in this series. Arizona is one of the better teams in the league and their underlying numbers fully support it continuing. Patrick Corbin's numbers aren't pretty at 6-9 with a 4.71 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. But Corbin's xFIP is at 3.86 and he's striking out 8.4 batters per nine innings. The pastures will get greener for him in the second half. The Braves have fought hard so far, but I think we'll see some drop off soon. They are outperforming their underlying statistics and still have a lot of holes to fill during their rebuild. Take Arizona in our MLB Game of the Week. |

07-14-17 | Twins v. Astros -163 | 5-10 | Win | 100 | 11 h 38 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #970 Houston Astros over Minnesota Twins (8:10pm EST) The best team in the league goes up against one of the luckiest teams in the league tonight in Houston. The Astros are legit and have dominated every phase of the game thus far. The Twins, meanwhile, are lucky to be 45-43 and within striking distance of the AL Central lead (2.5 games behind Cleveland). Minnesota has been outscored by 60 runs so far this season and they've been a horrible second half team in recent years. Take the Astros in what should be an easy winner. |
07-14-17 | Mariners -168 v. White Sox | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 11 h 35 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #971 Seattle Mariners over Chicago White Sox (8:10pm EST) The White Sox traded away Jose Quintana yesterday and that's going to leave a bit of a sour taste in the team's mouth as they begin the second half. They knew this was coming eventually, but guys like Jose Abreu, David Robertson, Todd Frazier and Melky Cabrera may become a little detached while wondering where they'll go next. Seattle's James Paxton is legit and I think he shuts down an inept Chicago offense tonight. Take the Mariners. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-14-17 | Diamondbacks -108 v. Braves | 3-4 | Loss | -108 | 10 h 14 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #959 Arizona Diamondbacks over Atlanta Braves (7:35pm EST) The Arizona Diamondbacks had an amazing first half of the season and I still don't think they are getting enough credit for it. The D-Backs are 53-36 and have outscored their opponents by a whopping 102 runs so far in 2017. The pitching staff has been great and today's starter Taijuan Walker certainly has something to do with it. The 24-year old right-hander is 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA and has been gaining confidence in his first season in Phoenix. The betting markets are still treating Arizona like a .500 team, but they are likely going to win 90-95 games when it's all said and done. The Braves are playing inspired baseball, but I still think they have way too many holes. Getting Freddie Freeman back was huge, but they are still a year or two away from being a real threat. I'm also not a fan of R.A. Dickey, who has really been struggling with his control. He's only striking out 5.9 batters per nine while walking 3.4. That ratio isn't going to cut it long-term. Take Arizona tonight. |
07-14-17 | Cardinals +105 v. Pirates | 2-5 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 52 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #906 St. Louis Cardinals over Pittsburgh Pirates (7:05pm EST) The second half of the season gets underway and right off the bat we have a big series between the Pirates and Cardinals. Both of these teams are below .500 and are holding on for dear life in the NL Central division race. A bad (or even mediocre) couple of weeks for either team will probably lead to some selling at the trade deadline. But I have more faith in the Cardinals to stay in the race than I do the Pirates. First off, the Cards have a +13 run differential on the season versus a -25 for Pittsburgh. Secondly, St. Louis has fewer holes to fill and has a track record of staying in contention. They are also much deeper and have some answers in waiting. Mike Leake is having a great season for the Cardinals with a 3.12 ERA in 17 starts. Gerrit Cole is still trying to find himself in 2017, posting a 4.43 ERA in his 18 starts. It's the worst season of his young career and he might be focused on the trade rumors a little bit too much. I like St. Louis tonight in the underdog role. |
07-09-17 | Reds v. Diamondbacks -142 | 2-1 | Loss | -142 | 5 h 31 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #912 Arizona Diamondbacks over Cincinnati Reds (4:10pm EST) The Arizona Diamondbacks are heading into the break with the second best record in the National League. The offense has been great, but the pitching has been even better. The Snakes have the second best team ERA in all of baseball. Today's starter Patrick Corbin hasn't been one of the reasons why, as he is just 6-8 with a 4.81 ERA in 17 starts. However, his peripheral numbers show a much better pitcher than that. He's striking out 8.1 batters per nine innings against just 2.6 walks and he's keeping the ball on the ground more times than not. I like his chances today against a struggling Reds team that is probably looking forward to a few days off. The Reds are just 9-19 over their last 28 contests, and have all kinds of problems offensively and with the pitching staff. Take Arizona at home today. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-08-17 | White Sox v. Rockies -134 | 5-4 | Loss | -134 | 10 h 22 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #980 Colorado Rockies over Chicago White Sox (9:10pm EST) The Chicago White Sox are in another freefall, very similar to the one they had last year. The Sox are just 6-12 over the last 18 games and things look like they are going to get worse before they get any better. Today's starter Jose Quintana, along with Jose Abreu and others are being tossed around in trade rumors as the organization continues the arduous rebuilding process. The Rockies have stumbled of late as well, but they have an enormous lead for the second wild card spot and seem focused under new manager Bud Black. Youngster Jeff Hoffman gets the ball for the Rockies today and he's 5-1 with a 4.01 ERA despite nearly half of his innings being pitched in Coors Field. He shouldn't have too many problems with a weak White Sox lineup. Colorado easily won 12-4 over the Sox yesterday and I think they keep it rolling tonight. Play the Rockies. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-08-17 | Red Sox -108 v. Rays | 0-1 | Loss | -108 | 5 h 26 m | Show
5-unit Play Take #967 Boston Red Sox over Tampa Bay Rays (4:10pm EST) You have to like the way that the Red Sox are playing right now, especially with how they are swinging the bats. It took this lineup some time to adjust to life without David Ortiz, but they've finally found their groove. Boston is on a 21-12 run and their offense is the main reason. But don't discount their pitching. Boston is 2nd in the AL in team ERA despite some big injuries to their staff in the early going. Tampa Bay is having a surprisingly strong season, but I just don't see them being able to sustain it long-term. I still think the loss of Kevin Kiermaier is going to do this team in eventually. He means so much in centerfield and is a good table setter. Play Boston in this one at a very reasonable price in our MLB Game of the Week. |
07-08-17 | Mets +123 v. Cardinals | 1-4 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 24 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #955 New York Mets over St. Louis Cardinals (4:10pm EST) It's been a nightmare season for Adam Wainwright, and the Cardinals can't be laying these kinds of prices when he's on the mound. The Mets have been really banged up this season, but they've fought hard and having Yoenis Cespedes in the lineup makes a world of difference. I think this line is too high, so we're on the Mets. |
07-08-17 | Padres v. Phillies -147 | 2-1 | Loss | -147 | 5 h 20 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #954 Philadelphia Phillies over San Diego Padres (4:05pm EST) Two bad teams will duel it out on Saturday, but I think the Phillies are much better suited for success at this point. They have a more seasoned lineup, while the Padres are still a few years away. I also think Aaron Nola is one of the more underrated arms in the National League. He's 6-5 with a 3.73 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 12 starts. We'll take the Phils here. |
07-08-17 | Astros v. Blue Jays -110 | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 2 h 19 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #964 Toronto Blue Jays over Houston Astros (1:05pm EST) The Houston Astros have had the best record in baseball for most of the season. They don't appear to have any weaknesses, but one of them is today's starter Mike Fiers. While he checks in with a modest 3.80 ERA, Fiers' peripheral numbers are much weaker. He owns a 5.28 FIP and still gives up too many home runs. His control can also be spotty and I'm confident the Astros are looking at starting pitchers who they can trade for before the deadline to replace Fiers. The Blue Jays aren't having the kind of season most expected, but they have been better than they were earlier this season. Marcus Stroman gets the ball for the Jays this afternoon and he's been quickly becoming an ace pitcher. I like Toronto at home today. |
07-07-17 | Pirates v. Cubs -137 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 3 h 12 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #902 Chicago Cubs over Pittsburgh Pirates (2:20pm EST) It's an early afternoon game in Wrigley Field as the Cubs host the Pirates. Neither of these teams has got it going yet, but I have much more faith in the Cubs figuring it out than I do Pittsburgh. Most of the guys that won the World Series last year are on this roster, and the bet ting markets have finally dropped the lines on Cubs to levels that are ripe for picking. Eddie Butler is slated to go today for Chicago, and he's done an adequate job filling in the rotation. He's only asked to go about five innings, and then the Cubs can turn it over to one of the better bullpens in baseball. The Pirates counter with right-hander Trevor Williams. He's still learning in his second season, and there are going to be lots of bumps in the road. I have the line about 10 cents higher, so there's value on the Cubs today. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-06-17 | Astros v. Blue Jays +148 | 4-7 | Win | 148 | 8 h 26 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #962 Toronto Blue Jays over Houston Astros (7:05pm EST) The Houston Astros have been on fire all season long, but the prices are starting to get pretty ridiculous. They are also possibly without stud shortstop Carlos Correa today. The Blue Jays have had a tough season, but I think they have one more good run in them to get back into contention. This line is just too high, so we're on Toronto. |
07-05-17 | Red Sox -103 v. Rangers | 2-8 | Loss | -103 | 12 h 50 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #915 Boston Red Sox over Texas Rangers (8:05pm EST) The Boston Red Sox are starting to hit and it's a beautiful thing to watch. Boston is atop the AL East and has reeled off six straight victories. The lineup has produced at least six runs in each of those contests. I also like their addition of Doug Fister, who will get the ball today. Texas is having a hard time producing runs and the pitching staff is a couple of arms short. I'm not a fan of today's starter Andrew Cashner. Take the BoSox to get the job done. |
07-04-17 | Red Sox +117 v. Rangers | 11-4 | Win | 117 | 10 h 53 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #969 Boston Red Sox over Texas Rangers (8:05pm EST) David Price has had some off the field issues this season and some of that may be spilling onto the field. Price has an ugly 4.69 ERA this season in his seven starts after coming back from his injury. He was a little bit rusty in his first few outings, but in the last two starts Price was more locked in. He has a 12-1 K-BB ratio over those starts after having control issues previously. Today he gets a Texas team that has struggled to get things going in 2017. Yu Darvish gets the ball for the Rangers. His numbers are in line with where he's been in the past, except for his strikeout rate. The 30-year old right-hander is striking out 9.7 batters per nine innings, which is about a 15% drop off from last season. That could be telling down the road, as K-BB rates are predictive of future success. We'll take Boston in the underdog role here. |
07-04-17 | Astros -155 v. Braves | 16-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 41 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #979 Houston Astros over Atlanta Braves (7:35pm EST) The Atlanta Braves are staying afloat somehow, but I don't see it continuing. Losing Freddie Freeman was a huge blow and the offense just isn't the same. The Houston Astros have been red hot all season long and they are an amazing 29-9 on the road this season. Take the Astros today. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-04-17 | Giants v. Tigers -197 | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 3 h 59 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #972 Detroit Tigers over San Francisco Giants (1:10pm EST) The San Francisco Giants have had a disastrous season. They have the second worst record in all of baseball and now the only question is who they are going to unload at the trade deadline. The chemistry on the team just doesn't feel like it's there and missing Madison Bumgarner has been a huge issue. They'll head to Detroit today against the Tigers for a three-game series. The Tigers are struggling themselves this year, but they're not completely out of it in the American League. If they can make a run before the break, they might be able to keep the team together and go for a wild card spot. Big edge on the mound today for the Tigers with Michael Fulmer going up against Matt Cain. Fulmer is backing up his AL Rookie of the Year trophy with another strong season with a 3.19 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. Cain checks in with a 5.46 ERA and is just a shell of his former self. This line is high but we still like Detroit. |
07-03-17 | Royals v. Mariners -130 | 3-1 | Loss | -130 | 11 h 53 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #918 Seattle Mariners over Kansas City Royals (10:10pm EST) Both of these teams are playing pretty good baseball of late, but I think the Mariners have more staying power. The M's have a balanced roster and are really tough to beat in Safeco. The Royals are fighting their hearts out to stay in in, and I think they're being counted out too early. However, they are not the same team on the road and this is a longer than normal trip. Play the Mariners in this one. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-03-17 | Marlins +131 v. Cardinals | 6-14 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 56 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #905 Miami Marlins over St. Louis Cardinals (7:15pm EST) Adam Wainwright hasn't been right for two seasons. And at the age of 35, it's hard to imagine Waino reverting back to his old form. He posted an ugly 4.62 ERA last season and he's at 5.17 so far in 2017. The betting markets have adjusted, but I don't think they've moved it enough. The Cardinals are also coming off of an intense series against the Nationals, and this series against the Marlins just won't be as much. Miami still hasn't found its groove this season, but their lineup is too good to be 11th in the National League in runs scored. Part of it is playing in a tough pitcher's park, but they need some of the bats to wake up. They'll have a good chance to do that tonight against Wainwright. Take the Fish here. |
07-02-17 | Rockies v. Diamondbacks -128 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 3 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #962 Arizona Diamondbacks over Colorado Rockies (4:10pm EST) It's been a great season thus far for both the Diamondbacks and Rockies. But after red hot starts by both teams, the Rockies seem to be slipping. Colorado has lost nine of 10 and most of those struggles have been on the road. Today's matchup of German Marquez and Taijuan Walker favors the D-Backs. Marquez has been mediocre in 2017 working between the rotation and bullpen. Walker has thrived after a change of scenery, going 6-3 with a 3.50 ERA in 12 starts. He has big upside and it's a big surprising that the Mariners parted ways with him so early. Arizona has been playing better than the Rockies and this line should be at least 10 cents higher. Play the Diamondbacks. |
07-02-17 | Mariners -150 v. Angels | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 28 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #977 Seattle Mariners over Los Angeles Angels (3:35pm EST) We're going to ride the Mariners once again in Anaheim this afternoon. James Paxton gets the ball for the M's today and he's been very good in 2017. Paxton is 5-3 with a 3.44 ERA and is striking out 10.5 batters per nine innings. He's one of the harder throwing left-handed starters in the game and has the potential to be an ace in Seattle for years if he can harness his stuff. The Angels have had trouble scoring runs without Mike Trout, although their pitching staff has stepped up in a big way. I don't care for Angels' starter Jesse Chavez, as he's had a hard time latching on with a team for too long. He's been with seven different organizations in 10 years. I like Seattle to get the victory in this one. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-01-17 | Mariners +106 v. Angels | 0-4 | Loss | -100 | 12 h 49 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #927 Seattle Mariners over Los Angeles Angels (10:05pm EST) The Los Angeles Angels have been playing inspired baseball without superstar Mike Trout. They are 16-14 over their last 30 games despite Trout being out for the majority of them. Most of the credit goes to the pitching staff, which has held their opponents down nicely of late. I don't see that happening today, however, with Ricky Nolasco on the hill. The veteran right-hander is just 3-9 with a 4.86 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. His big problem has been the long ball, as he's yielded 23 of them in 16 starts. The Mariners have the power to take advantage, and I think they get the victory in Anaheim tonight after winning 10-0 last night. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
07-01-17 | Rays v. Orioles -119 | 10-3 | Loss | -119 | 8 h 30 m | Show
3-unit Play Take #922 Baltimore Orioles over Tampa Bay Rays (4:05pm EST) You have to give the Baltimore Orioles some credit. For years they've been counted out and have managed to stay in contention with the odds against them. This year is no different. After losing several key guys including Zach Britton, Darren O'Day and Chris Davis, the team has battled to stay in the thick of things in the difficult AL East. A lot of that credit has to go to manager Buck Showalter, who always seems to get more out of his guys than any manager. The O's are one game under the .500 mark despite the key injuries, and just a half game out of the second wild card spot as we approach the halfway mark. At Camden Yards, Baltimore is 24-15 this season. The Tampa Bay Rays are also having themselves a decent season at 42-40, keeping them in the race for a playoffs spot. I'm not sure they can keep it going however. The Rays are missing a lot of guys to injury right now, including stud centerfielder Kevin Kiermaier. He's one of the more underrated guys in the league and covers a lot of territory in the outfield. I think Baltimore is the better team and they have a huge home field advantage. Take the O's at home. |
06-30-17 | Mariners -107 v. Angels | 10-0 | Win | 100 | 12 h 32 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #977 Seattle Mariners over Los Angeles Angels (10:05pm EST) Somehow the Angels have managed to stay afloat without Mike Trout over the last few weeks. But I don't see it continuing. The pitching staff has stepped up in a big way, but there are some big holes there that need repairing. Youngster Parker Bridwell is getting called on today, but his minor league track record hasn't been all that good. He does have a nice 2.95 ERA in limited work in the majors this season, but his peripheral numbers aren't good at all. Bridwell is only striking out 5.1 batters per nine innings and he's been lucky to strand 96% of baserunners. Seattle has lost four straight, but they were playing very good baseball up until then. They are healthier than they were earlier in the season, so I think they have a great chance of being the second best team in the AL West. Take Seattle here. |
06-30-17 | Braves v. A's -160 | 3-1 | Loss | -160 | 12 h 31 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #980 Oakland A's over Atlanta Braves (10:05pm EST) The Oakland A's have been good at home this season at 22-17 and part of their overall struggles is due to the fact that they just play in a very tough division. The Atlanta Braves, on the other, have been feasting on a bad NL East division. If we swap these two teams' divisions, I think Oakland has the much better record overall. I like the A's here, especially with Sonny Gray going tonight. Best of Luck - Doc's Sports |
06-30-17 | Twins v. Royals -120 | 1-8 | Win | 100 | 10 h 42 m | Show
4-unit Play Take #976 Kansas City Royals over Minnesota Twins (8:15pm EST) The Kansas City Royals are somehow doing it again. They're in the playoff mix in the American League despite a depleted roster and rumors of some big guns getting dealt at the deadline. The Twins are currently in the lead for the second wild card, with a slew of teams right behind them. The Royals are one of those squads, just 2.5 games behind. Things are starting to unravel for Minnesota, as they usually do around midseason. I like the pitching matchup here for Kansas City. |
