10-17-20 | Army v. UTSA +7 | Top | 28-16 | Loss | -104 | 92 h 35 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit CFB Upset of the Week Roadrunners are an "under-the radar" squad, despite their vast improvement under new head coach Traylor. They've been a spread dream, covering 8 of their last 10 games, & are just 8 pts from a 10-0 ATS run, with the latest coming in last week's narrow 27-20 to a BYU squad which entered with a 148-24 point edge for the year (+84 points ATS). The dog as covered all 4 of their games so far, by 54½ pts. The Cadets are overland giants again (#2), but are anything but a road play, as host in Army games 5-0 ATS lately (+87½ pts). |
10-17-20 | South Florida v. Temple -10 | Top | 37-39 | Loss | -110 | 96 h 22 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit ACC Game of the Week Bulls in off ultimate downer, being taken apart by East Carolina. Now a 124-31 point deficit in lined games, while rushing for 106, 83, & 92 yards. And QB McCloud is just 1 TD with 4 interceptions for the year. Owls 9-1 ATS as AAC chalks, & in off a 106-yard edge over Navy, losing on 50-yard FG & 2 missed PATs. |
10-17-20 | Auburn v. South Carolina +3.5 | 22-30 | Win | 100 | 90 h 47 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units South Carolina got healthy, overland, vs Vanderbilt, coming from 103 rushing yard per game, to 289 vs Vandy (Harris: 171 yards). Ditto the Tigers (from 65 rushing yards per game to 259 at Arkansas), but note not much help from QB Nix, who ranks 58th in passing efficiency. Carolina has LSU up next. So what |
10-14-20 | Rays -130 v. Astros | 3-4 | Loss | -130 | 4 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Glasnow, 27, has provided good theatre by striking out 20 batters in 13 1/3 innings this postseason for the Rays, who have won each of his last 11 starts including the playoffs. Glasnow also won his lone career regular-season encounter against Houston after permitting one run on six hits in five innings in 2019. George Springer is 2-for-3 in a small sample size versus Glasnow, but Michael Brantley (0-for-8, two strikeouts) hasn't been as fortunate. Houston right-hander Zack Greinke will get the nod on Wednesday. The former AL Cy Young Award winner surrendered a pair of home runs and four runs total in 4 2/3 innings of a no-decision against the Oakland A's on Thursday. Greinke owns a 4-6 record with a 3.36 ERA in 17 career appearances (14 starts) versus Tampa Bay |
10-11-20 | Astros +134 v. Rays | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 14 m | Show
The Astros saw Snell three times in last year's ALDS, beating him 3-1 in Game 2 behind a homer by Bregman and the pitching of Gerrit Cole. Snell's other two appearances were in relief, including getting two outs and a save in Game 4. Snell also started once against Houston last year in the regular season, allowing homers to Altuve, Brantley and Springer on a 5-1 loss on Opening Day. He was opposed that time by Justin Verlander. The Astros lost Cole in free agency last offseason and won't have Verlander in this series following Tommy John surgery. Overall for his career, Snell has made six starts against the Astros in the regular season, going 2-2 with a 4.73 ERA. Snell (1-1) has opened both previous series for the Rays, beating Toronto 3-1 in Tampa Bay's 2-0 sweep before losing 9-3 to the Yankees in what turned out to be a five-game series. Valdez (2-0), meanwhile, had a Game 1 win in the Minnesota series and a Game 2 victory in the Oakland series, allowing just two runs and seven hits in 12 innings. The 26-year-old has never faced the Rays, who will be making their first ALCS appearance since beating Boston 4-3 en route to the 2008 World Series. |
10-11-20 | Giants v. Cowboys -8 | 34-37 | Loss | -105 | 31 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Just what the doctor ordered for the 'Boys, this disaster of a team coming down to Dallas. We imagine for those of you still alive, that the 'Boys will be a very popular choice for those of you in "Survivor Pools". Worst start for Dallas (1-3) since 2010. Check allowing 333 yards & 31 points in the first half vs the Browns, & now yielding 38+ points 3 straight for 1st time since 1960 (first season in team history). More? Okay, how about ceding 307 rushing yards in that loss (most ever by a Cowboy "D"). But Giants are even worse. Back-to-back games without a TD for the first time since '98. NY "D" away this year: 17, 17 points. But Dak (502 passing yards last week) & Co won't be corralled here |
10-11-20 | Dolphins v. 49ers -8 | 43-17 | Loss | -118 | 30 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Don't tell us it was 36 yrs ago when these 2 battled in Super Bowl XIX, when Montana & Co throttled Marino, & the "Marks Brothers" in Dan's only Super Bowl. Many call that Niner team one of the greatest ever. Second of 3 home games for San Francisco, which let one get away in the late going, allowing 2 TDs in final 4:08 of 25-20 loss to Philly. Have to see quick bounce back, with 26th-ranked Dolphin "O" doing little vs 49ers' 3rd-ranked "D". Miami has now allowed a sack in 30 straight games (longest in NFL), & Fitzpatrick has thrown for no less than 64 4th quarter interceptions since '08. Niners are 9-1 ATS as chalks vs AFC, & 7-1-1 vs the Dolphins. Only way to go |
10-11-20 | Raiders v. Chiefs -11 | 40-32 | Loss | -109 | 28 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Can anyone in the AFC West scare the Chiefs, just a little? If anyone can, it's down to the Raiders. KC is coming in off a delayed Game vs the Pats. Vs Baltimore on Monday 2 weeks ago: 34 points, 10-of-13 on 3rd down, 517 yards (385 passing yards & 132 rushing yards). And 5 more TDs for Mahomes with zero turnovers vs the Ravens. So Chiefs are now 3-0 for 4th consecutive season (longest streak in team history), & have won 9 straight games, while covering 11-of-12. And Chief "D" has held opposing QBs to passer rating under 100 in 9 straight games. Pity the Raiders |
10-11-20 | Panthers +1.5 v. Falcons | 23-16 | Win | 100 | 27 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Not the most glamorous of matchups, but sometimes these are the best games. No questioning rebirth of the Panthers last couple of weeks, behind Bridgewater, who was a sweet 26-of-37 for 276 yards, & 2 TDs vs up-&-coming Arizona. Check Carolina's 444-262 yard edge, as it scored TDs on 3 of its first 4 drives vs the Cards. That marked Panthers' 1st win over an NFC opponent since October 13, 2019 (9 straight losses). And it was also their first game this season without allowing a rushing TD. Falcons in off Monday Nighter at Green Bay |
10-11-20 | Cardinals -7 v. Jets | 30-10 | Win | 100 | 27 h 23 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The "Todd Bowles Bowl", as he was DC of the Cards, & HC of the Jets for a time. Can the Jets win 3 games this year? Doubtful. First road chalk role for the Cards since 20-10 win over the Niners on Nov 5, 2017. Quick start, but allowing 28.5 points per game in current 2-game losing streak, with this the 2nd of 3 consecutive RGs. Faltered badly in 1st traveler, with 4 punts, a TD, & a fumble in their first 6 possessions at Carolina, winding up with a 444-262 yard deficit, despite decent Murray effort: 24-of-36 & 3 TDs and 0 interceptions, but just 133 yards. Jets stayed with Broncos, but note Darnold being sacked in 20th consecutive game (longest streak in NFL). Cards looking past nobody. |
10-10-20 | Temple -3 v. Navy | Top | 29-31 | Loss | -110 | 99 h 8 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Mismatch of the Week First game for the always dangerous Owls, who are on a spectacular 34-15 ATS run, including 3 straight vs the Middies. Navy is always a standard as a rushing "O" elite (#1 last year). Not this year, with 301-119, 265-204, & 369-90 rushing yard deficits. And note visitor is 22-13 ATS in Navy games |
10-10-20 | Kansas State +9 v. TCU | 21-14 | Win | 100 | 45 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Cats are something else, seeming to get stronger as their games wear on, as their back-to-back comeback wins over Oklahoma & Texas Tech attest. Try 31-5 & 14-0 windups with those upsets, for covers of 35 & 12 points, which continued to extend the success of the underdog in Kansas State games, with the pup now 10-2 ATS in last dozen 'Cat outings. As a matter of fact, the dog has won the last 7 Wildcat games Straight up! First chalk role for the Frogs, who are a paltry 4-14 as home favorites, and are only 14-13 SU past 2 years |
10-10-20 | Pittsburgh v. Boston College +6.5 | Top | 30-31 | Win | 100 | 97 h 4 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit CFB Play of the Day Third straight home game for Eagles, who still can't run (84, 87, 40 rushing yards), although Jurkovec in off 310-passing yard effort vs North Carolina. BC had tying 2-point try run back in L0:45. Solid dog play, & Pitt "D" allowed 29 first downs & 336 passing yards in L0:23 loss to NC State, offsetting Pickett's 411 passing yards. To wire |
10-10-20 | Florida -6.5 v. Texas A&M | Top | 38-41 | Loss | -110 | 93 h 11 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit SEC Game of the Week |
10-10-20 | Virginia Tech +4.5 v. North Carolina | 45-56 | Loss | -110 | 41 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hokies keep on doing it, despite health problems, taking Duke, despite being down to 21 players, & just 2 full-time coaches. Note 643 rushing yards L2 weeks. Herbert LW: 208 rushing yards (10.4 yards per rush). UNC #1 in rushing "D", with QB Howell, RB Carter smoking. Points the play. |
10-10-20 | Oklahoma v. Texas +2.5 | 53-45 | Loss | -109 | 41 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units For the 11th straight time, the Longhorns have been pegged as the dog in this classic "throw away the records" series, & they've paid off handsomely in that role, covering 7 of 8 since '13, with the only miss coming in the '18 conference title match. And this has been the case for the recent history, the Okies field one of the most potent offenses, only to be damaged by a highly porous defense, having dropped 2 straight games for the first time since 1999, & 2-10 ATS. Ehlinger (308 passing yards per game)does his thing in this |
10-08-20 | Bucs -3 v. Bears | 19-20 | Loss | -130 | 1 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Potential playoff matchup? This is another big one with late season tie-breakers on the line. Even though Brady has had a ton of success in cold Foxboro in January, he'd like to avoid Soldier Field if possible. Three straight wins for the Bucs with Tom at 1,123 yards, & a TD catch in 5 straight games for Evans. The Bears at home this year: 17 & 11 points (0-2 ATS), & only 28 rushing yards in hosting loss to the Colts. Their first 10 possessions: 3 points & 7 punts, & they're the only team not to score a 3rd quarter TD this year. Tom last week: 369 passing yards & 5 touchdowns with 1 interception (oldest player with 2 straight 3+ TD games). Lay the points |
10-06-20 | Padres v. Dodgers -160 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 9 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Walker Buehler is expected to get the start here. The Padres were held to 2 or less runs in half of their ten games against the Dodgers this season. Buehler is 24-9 with a 3.15 ERA in his career. He held opponents to a .178 batting average this season. In his 7 post-season starts Buehler has a 2.90 ERA and a .170 BAA. The Padres rallied to get by the Cardinals in the Wild Card round but face a much tougher test here |
10-06-20 | Astros -107 v. A's | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 4 h 41 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Houston Astros are heating up at the right time, first sweeping Minnesota in the Wild Card round before winning the opener of this best-of-five ALDS against Oakland. The Astros look to keep rolling today with left-hander Framber Valdez (5-3, 3.57 ERA) on the mound. Valdez held Minnesota to a pair of hits when working five innings out of the bullpen last Tuesday. He held Oakland to one earned run with nine Ks through seven frames earlier this season. As for A's starter Sean Manaea (4-3, 4.50 ERA), the left-hander has not pitched since September 23 and has allowed six runs on 13 hits in 11 2/3 innings in his last two starts. Consider: Astros are 8-2 in their last 10 Divisional Playoff games. Athletics are 2-7 in their last 9 playoff games |
10-05-20 | Yankees -143 v. Rays | 9-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New York's Gerrit Cole (7-3, 2.84 ERA) allowed two runs and struck out 13 in his victory over the Tribe. Cole has now allowed just five earned runs over his last five games. Blake Snell (4-2, 3.24) allowed seven runs over his last five starts for the Rays. Snell was sharp in his win over the Jays, allowing one hit over 5.1 innings, but he will have his hands full with this healthy and hard-hitting New York line-up. Snell has the propensity to give up the long-ball, which clearly doesn't bode well facing this talented opposing line-up. |
10-05-20 | Astros v. A's -129 | 10-5 | Loss | -129 | 4 h 7 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The A's figure to have the advantage in Game 1, which will be played at Dodger Stadium. McCullers was sharp down the stretch but hasn't started since 9/26. So, its been a layoff. Bassitt, who started Game 2 against the White Sox, was excellent all season and downright dominant down the stretch. He was 3-0 with a 0.34 ERA in September |
10-04-20 | Eagles +7.5 v. 49ers | 25-20 | Win | 100 | 53 h 45 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Third matchup this week that could have a major impact in the NFL playoff picture. Check Niner rout of hapless Giants, despite going it without their starting QB, RB, WR, TE, LB, CB, & 3 "D" linemen. No Jimmy, no problem, as Mullens threw for 323 yards (now has 275+ passing yards in 5 of his last 6 starts). And check San Francisco's first game without a punt since 1993. However, 49ers are 0-6 ATS off a pair of SU/ATS wins. Eagles being killed by the turnover: minus 7 for the season, with Wentz the first Philly QB with 2+ picks in 3 straight games since Ron Jaworski in '85 |
10-04-20 | Lakers -9.5 v. Heat | 104-115 | Loss | -105 | 11 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Los Angeles has been dominant the first two games, outscoring and outrebounding Miami. The Western Conference champs have been potent both in the paint and from long range, and they show little sign of slowing down with LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the way. Davis is averaging 33 points and 11.5 rebounds through the first two games, and James is just behind at 29 and 11. The dynamic duo has elicited comparisons to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal, who combined to win three consecutive championships for the Lakers from 2000-02. Consider: The Lakers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight after a ten points or greater SU victory in their last outing. |
10-04-20 | Giants v. Rams -12.5 | 9-17 | Loss | -105 | 98 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right, the road team has covered all 3 Giant contests, with their only spread success by a single point at Chicago. For the first time since 1983, NY has managed 16 points, or fewer, in each of their first 3 games of the season (QB Jones: multiple turnovers in all 3). And Check an NFL-worst 12-39 record since the start of the 2017 season. Quite a comeback for the Rams at Buffalo, turning a 28-3 deficit into a 32-28 lead, only to lose in L 0:15. Donald: 2 more sacks. Should overwhelm toothless Giants |
10-04-20 | Ravens -13 v. Washington Football Team | 31-17 | Win | 100 | 95 h 20 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Sure, there is an excellent chance that the Ravens will have been drained, off their Monday Night Classic War with the Chiefs. Possibly, but jumping off this machine is not in our repertoire, with their current 11-2 spread run, the vast majority of which came with some to spare. Now 7-0 ATS as road favorites of 6+ points. Jackson: 21-3 SU as a starter, & Ravens first team to rush for 200+ yards per game, & pass for 200+ yards per game in same season since 1950. Washington perfect foils, allowing 30+ points in 5 of their last 6 games, with Haskins coming in off 3 picks in loss to Browns, & may have lost Chase Young |
10-04-20 | Vikings v. Texans -3.5 | 31-23 | Loss | -108 | 66 h 0 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units A pair of unexpected winless teams here. Kirk Cousins on the road vs a quality team. No thank you. Texans have run the gauntlet of KC, Baltimore, & Pitt: thus 0-3 for 5th time in franchise history. Chance for redemption here, as Watson is the first Texan QB with 250+ passing yards in each of his first 3 games of the season, while Cousins has nine interceptions in his last 7 games (just 3 picks in his previous 13 outings). No, neither team is a defensive stalwart, but Watson can just make things happen |
10-03-20 | Oklahoma v. Iowa State +7 | Top | 30-37 | Win | 100 | 79 h 3 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit Big-12 Play of the Day Call reversal of LY's 42-14 Sooner win. Oklahoma in off shocking 38-35 loss to Kansas State, after leading 28-7 (24-0 windup), as Frosh QB Rattler tossed 3 key picks, thereby offsetting 387 passing yards (4 TDs). Sooners are now on a 2-9 ATS run by 126½ points. All that despite a 900-683 point edge in their last 22 lined games. Cyclones in off wrenching win over Tcu, despite a sweetly balanced 212 rushing yards & 213 passing yards, with steady Purdy 18-of-23, & 154 rushing yards from Hall (3 TDs & 8.6 yards per rush). All the trends are in favor of the Cyclones.. |
10-03-20 | Arkansas v. Mississippi State -17.5 | Top | 21-14 | Loss | -120 | 79 h 7 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit SEC Game of the Week Mike Leach is an offensive god. His acquisition was a stroke of genius by the Bulldogs, who came in at #111 in passing "O" last year. Not only that, but ex-Stanford QB Costello has just the right tools to take full advantage. A spectacular 623 passing yards & 5 TDs (31, 43, 75, 9, & 24 yards) set new SEC records. And against LSU, no less. Arkansas is now 2-22 SU of late, allowing 45 points per game over their last 8 outings. Note an unanswered 32 points to wind up their 37-10 loss to Georgia. Won't slow this train down a bit... |
10-03-20 | Texas A&M v. Alabama -17 | Top | 24-52 | Win | 100 | 75 h 11 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Mismatch of the Week Well, the 'Tide let us down in 38-19 win over Mizzou, allowing the backdoor cover, after taking a 35-3 lead in the 3rd. Thus a 15-3 deficit over the final 16:09. A closer peek shows 'Bama with just a 92-yard edge. However, QB Jones, who filled in ably for the injured Tagovailoa, was an effective 18-of-24 ( TD's with 0 picks). Aggies aren't the best of plays in this situation (1-14 ATS as an SEC dog), & enter off a sloppy win over Vandy (25½ point ATS loss), with only 2 TDs vs last year's 92nd-rated "D". 'Tide covers every other week. |
10-03-20 | South Florida v. Cincinnati -22 | 7-28 | Loss | -110 | 75 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Bearcats just continue on. They're in off a pair of back-to-back 11-win seasons, with current SU run of 14-3 (only misses coming vs Ohio State, & twice vs Memphis, who combined for a 25-3 record in '19. Fifteen returning starters, with strength along both offensive & defensive lines. In last week's win over an Army team, which entered with a 79-7 point edge (admittedly over Middle Tennessee & Monroe), they held the Knights to just one TD, that on a 41-yard fumble return. The Bulls are on an 8-15 spread run, managing to top 10 points in just 1 of their last 12 games. Thus, the 3-TD spread shouldn't scare anyone |
10-03-20 | South Carolina v. Florida -17.5 | 24-38 | Loss | -116 | 71 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gator QB Trask took the 'Cocks apart last year, with 4 TD tosses. Ditto his effort in Florida's win over Ole Miss: 6 TD passes, 4 to TE Pitts, as Gators punted only once, in a 652-yard effort. Caveat? Try being stung for 613 yards themselves (Ole Miss). Gamecocks ranked 81st in rushing "O:" in '19, picking up where they left off, with a paltry overland yards in losing to Tennessee. Carolina has a 36-18 points per game deficit in its last 14 lined games, & serves as fodder for this oncoming train. |
10-03-20 | NC State v. Pittsburgh -14 | 30-29 | Loss | -107 | 71 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Panthers are off to a sweet 3-0 start, including last week's 23-20 upset of Louisville, allowing only 10 first downs & 223 total yards. And therein lies their advantage, a defense which ranked 13th in the land in '19 (11th vs the run). And they also have better states than 11 of their 12 opponents. In their 3 starts this season, they've allowed only 27 first downs & 173 rushing yards. Off to their best start since '14. In that win over the Cards, they posted 7 sacks & 3 picks. The 'Pack is in off a 314-169 rushing yard deficit, in losing to Virginia Tech. Not concerned with the 2-TD spot, as NC State is now on an 0-9 ATS slide when named as the dog. It's Pitt |
09-30-20 | Brewers v. Dodgers -215 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 50 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Los Angeles enters these playoffs as the overwhelming favorite to win the World Series, and for good reason, as they had the best record and run differential in all of baseball during the regular season. They outscored teams by 136 runs in 60 games. Buehler gets the start in Game 1. He had a 0.67 WHIP at home this year and a 7-1 TSR overall. Milwaukee is a sub-.500 team that didn't even score more than three runs in any of its last eight games. Their Game 1 starter, Lindblom, has a 6.11 ERA on the road! |
09-29-20 | Yankees -103 v. Indians | 12-3 | Win | 100 | 7 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Bieber has an 8.31 ERA in two career starts against the Yankees and Cole is 3-1 with a 2.50 ERA in five career starts vs the Indians (teams are 3-2). In 2019, Cole posted a 4-1 record with a 1.72 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in five starts for Houston. What's more, his final three starts of the current season saw him go 3-0 while pitching seven innings in each one. He gave up a modest 10 hits over those 21 innings and two ERs for a 0.67 ERA and a 24-3 KW ratio |
09-28-20 | Lightning -165 v. Stars | 2-0 | Win | 100 | 11 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lightning look to rebound from a disappointing defeat in which they squandered a third-period lead, dominated the first overtime period and then lost thanks to Corey Perry's tally. That said, there appears to be no panic heading into their second chance to clinch the second Stanley Cup in franchise history. Sure, the Lightning will look to make some adjustments for the potential Cup-clinching affair, but the message remains to stay the course that's helped them get this far. Consider: Tampa Bay is 45-8 in their last 53 after scoring two goals or less in their previous outing. |
09-27-20 | Lions v. Cardinals -5 | 26-23 | Loss | -110 | 30 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Two QBs with completely different styles, as you have classic drop back passer in Stafford, & the "do-it-all" in Murray. No questioning the legitimacy of the quickly rising Cards, who have opened at 2-0 for first time since making the NFC Title game in '15. Another 353 scrimmage yards for Murray who has 3 rushing TDs of 20+ yards in his young career (Cards had just 2 total TD runs of 20+ yards by a QB from 1970-2018). As for the Lions, Sunday was the 10th time that Detroit led by double digits since last year (lost 7 of those 10). Are 0-2 for 5th time in Matthew Stafford era, finishing under .500 each of those |
09-27-20 | Jets v. Colts -11.5 | 7-36 | Win | 100 | 30 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hard to believe that these 2 squads were playoff fixtures in the early 2000s. They played 3 times from '02, '09 & '10, with the Jets taking 2-of-3. New York's Darnold has been sacked in 18 straight games (longest active streak in NFL), & Jets at 0-2 for 3rd time in last 4 seasons. Note Jets allowing an 80-yard TD run on Niners' first play last week, while Indy "D" ceded only 3 points on the Vikings first 9 drives. Philip Rivers is tied with Fran Tarkenton (124) for the 8th-most wins as a starting in NFL history, & that Indy "D" is in off a splendid display, holding Minny to 11 pts, & 175 total yards |

09-27-20 | 49ers -3.5 v. Giants | 36-9 | Win | 101 | 27 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Was it really 34 years ago when the Giants' Jim Burt knocked out Joe Montana in the '86 Divisionals? Of course, the Giants went on to win their first Super Bowl 2 games later. Second of back-to-back games in this building for the Niners, who are 8-1 on the road since last year. Nice start for San Francisco in rout of the Jets, with 80-yard Mostert TD run in game's first play (he now has a TD in 8 consecutive road games: 2nd longest streak in team history). Giants now without RB Barkley, & that sinks them. NY is 2-17 since '18 vs all teams not named Washington. It all continu |

09-27-20 | Raiders v. Patriots -5.5 | 20-36 | Win | 100 | 27 h 44 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hooray for the Raiders, in opening up their new stadium location, with that splendid upset of the Saints, behind Carr's 28-of-38, & a time controlling 36:18-23:42 edge. He looked as sharp as ever. So a short week, after the ultimate high, while traveling to Foxboro to take on the best coached team in the NFL. Hold onto your hats, but many an expert figures the Pats with Cam under center, just may be a tad better than with Brady (397 passing yards & 47 rushing yards in loss at Seattle). Sets up perfectly for patented Belichick win |
09-26-20 | Stars v. Lightning -155 | 3-2 | Loss | -155 | 9 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Since losing the series opener, Tampa Bay has won three straight, with the latest a 5-4 overtime win Friday night, and is rolling. History is on the Lightning's side in a big way. Teams that have won Game 4 to take a 3-1 lead in a best-of-seven Cup finals since the NHL went to that format in 1939 are 27-0 at closing out the series. Key to finishing off the Stars, though, will be keeping those emotions in check for puck drop. It's a common adage about the hardest win to collect being the fourth, but the Lightning certainly are carrying all the momentum, and are beating the Stars any way necessary. They won Game 2 by scoring three times in the first period and cruising to a 3-2 win. They took Game 3 handily in a 5-2 final and then erased a pair of deficits -- including a two-goal first-period hole -- in the most recent victory. |

09-26-20 | Kansas v. Baylor -17 | Top | 14-47 | Win | 100 | 55 h 52 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Big-12 Game of the Week This is one that the Bears always get, & get in style, covering the last 8 vs the always struggling Jayhawks, with last year's rout just the latest. No letup the rest of the year for BU, so the getting is good vs this vulnerable squad which has allowed 38+ points in 7 of its last 9 outings, with the only misses coming in 31 & 34 allowances. Only caveat is fact that the Jays did cover vs bowl-bound BC, Oklahoma, Texas, & Iowa State last year. History call. |
09-26-20 | Tennessee -3 v. South Carolina | Top | 31-27 | Win | 100 | 54 h 23 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit SEC Game of the Week What a nice display that the Vols presented in last year's stretch, covering 6-of-8 (7-1 SU: Alabama), & only 7 points from an 8-0 spread run. They return 16 starters, including their top 3 QBs, & their entire "D" line. A year ago, they took the 'Cocks apart, with a 24-0 2nd half edge, & the series visitor is a profitable 18-5 ATS. Carolina is just 26-30 SU of late, ranking 104th in scoring & 97th in total "O" last year. Revenge won't work here |
09-26-20 | Army +13 v. Cincinnati | 10-24 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 36 m | Show
Rating; 2 Units The Cadets have opened impressively enough, with a 776-112 rushing yard edge over the likes of Middle Tennessee State & Louisiana Monroe, which was something of a given, as those squads were hardly defensive stalwarts. The Bearcats, obviously, provide a much sturdier picture, returning 9 starters from last year's 48th-ranked stop unit. However, note that the Bearcats were stung for 353 yards by hapless Austin Peay in last week's cakewalk. Army has always been a thorn on the side of quality opposition, such as last year's 24-21 loss to Michigan, as a 3-TD dog |
09-26-20 | Kansas State v. Oklahoma -27.5 | Top | 38-35 | Loss | -115 | 47 h 12 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit Big-12 Play of the Day Okies' only road spread slip came at the hands of these Wildcats, featuring a 41-6 point run! 'Cats return only 3 offensive starters, which is crucial in staying with OU, which owns a mere 865-645 point edge in it last 21 games. Only 2-8 ATS (-96½ pts). The fact that the dog is 8-2 ATS in Kansas State games seems applicable, as well. However, we can't dismiss the history of this series, which shows home dominance. Okies |

09-26-20 | Florida v. Ole Miss +13.5 | 51-35 | Loss | -106 | 47 h 3 m | Show
Rating; 2 Units A year ago, the Gators finished 6th in the national polls, & deservedly so, as their 11-2 log was spoiled only by the likes of mighty Lsu & Georgia, while finishing 10th & 5th in total & scoring "D", & holding a 469-230 point edge in their last 13 lined games. Return 12 starters including QB Duo of Trask & Jones. The Rebels, however, are no pushovers, covering 7-of-last-8 (1-point miss vs A&M), & welcome aboard HC Lane Kiffin. Rebel yel |

09-21-20 | Cardinals -177 v. Royals | 1-4 | Loss | -177 | 8 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Wainwright's been excellent this season, allowing three ERs or less in SEVEN of his eight starts (Cards are 6-2). He's pitched at least six innings in all but one start, the exception being a five-inning effort in a doubleheader game (7 innings). Wainwright has pitched well against the Royals in his 15-year MLB career, going 5-2 with a 3.96 ERA in 13 games (10 starts / Cards are 6-4). In fact, that's the most appearances and starts against any American League team, with the exception of the Astros, who were in the National League for the first seven years of Wainwright's career. |
09-21-20 | Brewers v. Reds -124 | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 10 h 50 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Brewers posted three runs -- one earned -- with five hits, and walked four times and struck out nine over six innings against scheduled Cincinnati starter Luis Castillo (3-5, 3.03 ERA) during a 3-2 win on Aug. 25. Castillo, though, has been stellar in September, going 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA. The right-hander allowed three hits and struck out 10 with a walk over seven innings of a 1-0 win against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Milwaukee's Ryan Braun is 1-for-12 against Castillo. Milwaukee is 1-7 its last eight road games vs. a right-handed starter. Cincinnati has won its last six home games vs. righties |
09-21-20 | White Sox +107 v. Indians | 4-7 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Cleveland right-hander Aaron Civale (3-5, 3.80 ERA) is searching for a spark after posting an 0-3 record in his last five trips to the mound. Civale, who last won on Aug. 19 following a complete-game gem, sports a 2-2 record with a 3.38 ERA in four career outings against Chicago. The 25-year-old allowed one run on five hits in seven innings of a hard-luck 2-0 setback on Aug. 7. Chicago right-hander Dane Dunning (2-0, 2.33 ERA) has made quite the impact since entering the majors. Dunning recorded his second straight win on Tuesday after allowing two runs (one earned) over seven innings in a 6-2 victory against Minnesota. The White Sox have won all five of Dunning's starts. The 25-year-old will be getting his first look at Cleveland in his career on today. |

09-20-20 | Patriots +4 v. Seahawks | 30-35 | Loss | -110 | 54 h 19 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Second time these 2 have met since questionable ending to '14 Super Bowl. No more Brady, but Cam did just fine: 15-of-19, with 75 rushing yards, along with a pair of TD plunges. So 17th game under Belichick with 200+ rushing yards, winning all 17. Get this: Cam is the first Pat QB with a Week 1 rushing TD since Jim Plunkett in 1974. For the Seahawks, Wilson opened with a bang vs the Falcons: 31-of-35, 322 yards, & TDs with no interceptions. However Seattle "D" has slipped, thereby opening Belichick door. So no breathing room |
09-20-20 | Ravens -7 v. Texans | Top | 33-16 | Win | 100 | 51 h 53 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NFL Play of the Day Quite a pair of killers in which the Texans open the season (Chiefs & Ravens). Looked great in their opening 80-yard drive of the season, & stayed with KC, stat wise (9-yard deficit). That wasn't the case when these 2 met last season, as the Ravens posted a 491-232 yard edge in that 41-7 wipeout. Thirteen straight regular season wins for the Ravens (longest active streak in league). Baltimore is in off another opening drive TD (had 8 last year), with Jackson posting 7th game with 3+ TD passes & no picks since last year |
09-20-20 | Chiefs -8.5 v. Chargers | 23-20 | Loss | -103 | 51 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Extra 3 days to prepare for the Champions, which is hardly what hopeful Chargers desire. The Chiefs have now won 10 straight games, both SU & ATS. What more can be said of Mahomes? Was 24-of-32, 211 passing yards & 3 TDs vs Texans. Completed more than 50% of his passes in each of his 37 career games. And now KC has added first class rusher in Edwards-Helaire (25 carries, 138 rushing yards in debut). L.A. was outscored 10-0 in 4th quarter of last week's 13-10 squeaker at Cincy |
09-20-20 | Giants v. A's -168 | 14-2 | Loss | -168 | 6 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Giants announced after Saturday's game that they will push ace Johnny Cueto back a day to start Monday at home against Colorado. In his place, lefty Tyler Anderson (2-3, 5.06), who was ejected after two innings in his start Thursday against Seattle, will get to deal with the new-look A's. Anderson has never pitched against the A's. He is scheduled to be pitted against Oakland left-hander Mike Minor (1-5, 5.40 ERA), who is 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA in eight games (seven starts) against the Giants in his career. Minor will encounter a team that's totaled just nine hits -- eight singles and a Brandon Crawford double -- in the first two games of the series. |
09-20-20 | Cardinals -158 v. Pirates | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 7 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units In the series finale, St. Louis right-hander Jack Flaherty (3-2, 5.52 ERA) is scheduled to face Pittsburgh right-hander Joe Musgrove (0-5, 5.74 ERA). Against Pittsburgh. Flaherty is 5-1 with a 1.94 ERA with 47 strikeouts in eight career starts against the Pirates, and his five wins are his most against any opponent. It's a different story for Musgrove. Through six starts, with three weeks off while he was on the IL, Musgrove has performed below expectations. On Tuesday, he struck out eight in five innings but allowed four runs and six hits in a loss against Cincinnati -- but his teammates have contributed. Or, to be more exact, they have struggled to contribute. He has pitched 26 2/3 innings, and the Pirates have provided him with just a handful of runs while he has been in the game. Musgrove has struggled to beat the Cardinals -- he is 1-7 with a 6.75 ERA in eight career starts against them. |
09-20-20 | Nationals -157 v. Marlins | 1-2 | Loss | -157 | 3 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Miami starter, Alcantara, is 2-2 with a 3.45 ERA in five starts (28 2/3 innings), pitched six quality innings in his last outing Tuesday. Despite taking the loss against the Red Sox, Alcantara struck out five and walked two while allowing only one run on five hits. Alcantara has yet to face Washington this season, but is a career 0-5 with a 7.66 ERA in five starts allowing 21 earned runs in 24 2/3 innings. In 23 career starts (147 2/3 innings) against the Marlins, Scherzer is 13-4 with a 3.23 ERA with a 5.96 strikeout-to-walk ratio -- his best against any division foe. |
09-20-20 | Lions v. Packers -6 | 21-42 | Win | 100 | 47 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Seven straight division wins for the Pack, so obviously zeroed in on league competition. Check Rodgers' 32-of-44, 364 passing yards, & 4 TDs (no picks) in rout of Minny (522-382 yards edge). That's his fifth regular season game with 350+ passing yards & 4 TD passes with zero picks. His 368 career TDs passes now places him 7th on the all-time list. As for the Lions, they haven't won the division since '93. Only Cleveland has a longer drought. Led Bears 23-6 after 3 last week, only to allow 3 Trubisky TD passes in final 13:39. Very similar to opening '19 season by blowing 18-pt lead to Arizona, for the tie |
09-19-20 | Rangers +145 v. Angels | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 13 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lynn (6-2, 2.40 ERA) isn't just eating up innings for the Rangers, but he's turning in quality performances as well, giving up two runs or fewer in nine of 11 outings this season, helping him move to the forefront of AL Cy Young Award consideration. His lone poor outing came on Sept. 3, when he gave up six runs and eight hits in six innings of an 8-4 loss in Houston. Lynn will be matched against Angels left-hander Andrew Heaney (4-3, 4.02 ERA) for the third time this season. Lynn was the winning pitcher in the first two meetings against Heaney, improving his overall career mark against the Angels to 4-2 with a 3.54 ERA in eight starts. Heaney, meanwhile, was the losing pitcher, falling to 2-5 in his career against the Rangers with a 5.29 ERA in 12 starts |
09-19-20 | Wake Forest v. NC State -2 | 42-45 | Win | 100 | 71 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units What a back breaker for us when the Deacons snuck in the backdoor, after trailing mighty Clemson 37-3 in the 3rd, despite managing just 15 first downs & 37 rushing yards. Wake has allowed 36.3 points per game in their last 6 outings, & has said goodbye to QB Newman, who had a field day vs the 'Pack last year. NC State has been horrid (247-100 point deficit in its last 6 games), but returns 17 starters (10 on "O"), & this the ultimate home series. |
09-19-20 | Diamondbacks v. Astros -161 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Rookie right-hander Cristian Javier (4-2, 3.22 ERA) will make his 11th appearance and ninth start for the Astros on Saturday. He struck out five batters while allowing one hit over two scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday in his second relief appearance. Javier's most recent start came Sept. 7, when he surrendered two runs over five innings with three hits and three walks with three strikeouts in a 6-0 loss in Oakland. Javier earned his first career victory against the Diamondbacks on Aug. 4, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts over six innings in an 8-2 win at Chase Field. Right-hander Luke Weaver (1-7, 6.70 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Diamondbacks (20-32) on Saturday. He is winless over his last five starts, posting an 0-4 record and 4.70 ERA during that stretch while allowing a .773 OPS with nine walks and 21 strikeouts over 23 innings. |
09-19-20 | Cardinals -169 v. Pirates | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units St. Louis left-hander Kwang Hyun Kim (2-0, 0.63 ERA) is scheduled to face Pittsburgh right-hander Mitch Keller (1-1, 5.06 ERA). Keller is one of the young pitchers the Pirates have high hopes for, even with a predicted glut of potential starters next year. This season, he has been limited to three starts because of an oblique injury. In his first start after coming off the injured list, Keller pitched three innings Monday at Cincinnati, giving up three runs and two hits. Kim has not given up a run over his past 14 innings. On Monday, in his first start since being hospitalized for a kidney problem, he posted career highs in innings (seven), strikeouts (six) and pitches (87) against the Milwaukee Brewers but did not get a decision despite giving up no runs and three hits. Kim has faced Pittsburgh twice in his career, including one start, and he has pitched to a 1.29 ERA. He gave up one unearned run in six innings Aug. 27. |
09-19-20 | Appalachian State -4.5 v. Marshall | Top | 7-17 | Loss | -110 | 66 h 9 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Mismatch of the Week We go to the well again, with the Mountaineers, who had trouble getting started in their eventual 35-20 win over Charlotte (1½ point spread setback), despite 29-16 first down & 512-286 yard advantages. Note holding the 49ers to just a pair of field goals & a 97-yard kick off return TD over the last 50 minutes. As per usual, the Mounties posted a nicely balanced attack (308 rushing yards, 204 passing yards), which meshed nicely with last year's 216 rushing yard & 213 passing yards per game. Nine returning offensive starters, with the 'Herd losing 7 defensive starters. Marshall isn't the best of homers, with current 1-6 ATS host run, coupled with Appalachian State's 13-7 ATS road favorite run. |
09-19-20 | Boston College +6 v. Duke | Top | 26-6 | Win | 100 | 63 h 48 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Game of the Week Devils did themselves proud, in tight loss to Notre Dame, & despite managing just 75 rushing yards (QB Brice: 259 passing yards) trailed 17-13 in the 4th, before 27-13 final. That moved the dog to a super 16-7 ATS run in Duke tilts, but have allowed 38+ points in 4-of-last-7 contests. Eagles rarely non-competitive (current 19-9-1 ATS run), & have been a profitable road dog (covered their last road game by 34 points). New HC Hafley & QB Jurkovec rewarded |
09-19-20 | Tulsa v. Oklahoma State -23 | 7-16 | Loss | -110 | 62 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 3 Units The always potent Cowboys return 18 starters from last year's 19th ranked offense, including the brilliant Hubbard, who led the nation in '19, with 2,094 rushing yards (21 TDs). And against the Hurricane, he set a personal high with 256 rushing yards. Just 4 defensive returnees for Tulsa, which was 90th in containing the run. Oklahoma State head coach Gundy annually fields explosive outfits, & this team is on a mission. Look for quick start |
09-15-20 | A's -155 v. Rockies | 1-3 | Loss | -155 | 6 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Today's pitching matchup features Oakland's Sean Manaea (4-2, 4.46 ERA) going up against Colorado's Antonio Senzatela (3-2, 3.69 ERA). Manea won 12 games in back-to-back seasons for Oakland in 2017 and 2018 (no-hit the Red Sox on 4/21/18) but was limited to just FIVE starts in 2019 after rehabbing from shoulder surgery that took place in Sep of 2018. However, he made his 2019 season debut in September and went 4-0 with a 1.21 ERA and 0.78 WHIP (30 Ks in 29 .2 innings). Big things were expected in 2020 but he flopped in his first four starts, going 0-2 (team was 1-3) with a 9.00 ERA. However, the late 2019 Manaea has emerged in his last five starts, going 4-0 (team is 5-0) with a 1.98 ERA |
09-15-20 | Cardinals -138 v. Brewers | 3-18 | Loss | -138 | 5 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units St. Louis right-hander Jack Flaherty (3-1, 3.08 ERA) has allowed two or fewer runs in five of six starts on the season and never more than three. He owns a 4.68 ERA in previous meetings with Milwaukee but he has its current roster limited to a .239 batting average over 68 at bats. Additionally, the Brewers are 0-6 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter. Left-hander Brett Anderson (2-3, 4.64 ERA) will take the mound for the Brew Crew. Anderson took on the Cardinals on Sep 6 when he gave up four runs on six hits through five innings of a 4-1 loss. The Cardinals are 13-6 in their last 19 games vs. a left-handed starter and look good to get the better of Anderson again. |
09-15-20 | Royals -102 v. Tigers | 0-6 | Loss | -102 | 9 h 37 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Royals (20-28) can pass the slumping Tigers (20-26) in the standings during the two-game series. Left-handers Danny Duffy for the Royals and Matthew Boyd for the Tigers will start the series opener. Duffy (3-3, 4.24 ERA) tossed 5 2/3 shutout innings against Cleveland on Wednesday despite issuing four walks. Following his two best outings of the season, Boyd (1-6, 7.63 ERA) was battered for seven runs on eight hits in three-plus innings against Milwaukee on Wednesday. Boyd has started 20 times against the Royals, posting a 5-9 record and 6.49 ERA. Merrifield and Dozier have given him fits. In 42 official at-bats, Merrifield is hitting .524 with nine extra-base hits against Boyd. Dozier has 10 hits, including five extra-base hits, in 17 official at-bats. |
09-14-20 | Steelers -6 v. Giants | 26-16 | Win | 100 | 34 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Last year, Steelers missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2012-13, with their 8 losses tying the most in 13 seasons under HC Mike Tomlin. Not only that, but they ended the season by managing 10, 10, & 10 pts in 0-3 windup. Then again, Ben wasn't playing. Remember, he missed 14 games with that elbow injury. And Conner posted only 330 RYs (fewest by Pitt's leading rusher since 1970). Giants in off 3rd straight 11+ loss season, & enter this season without Eli for the first time since 2003. Steelers the play. |
09-13-20 | Cardinals +7.5 v. 49ers | 24-20 | Win | 100 | 49 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Niners were sure in control of last year's Super Bowl, before head coach Shanahan decided to limit his dominant overland game. Opening vs the Cards may seem a "given", but San Francisco is banged up, & Arizona has always given the Niners more than decent competition, & look for Card QB Murray to extend his excellent play (>3,500 passing and rushing yards). The Super Bowl loser has gone 4-15-1 ATS since 2000, & the Niners will have to be at their best for a runaway to open the season. Cards are 4-0-1 ATS in this series of late, & worth a look as a TD dog |
09-13-20 | Mets v. Blue Jays -155 | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Ryu will be starting against the Mets for the ninth time in his career Sunday. He was 1-0 without allowing a run in two starts last season over 14 2/3 innings. He is 4-1 with a 1.20 ERA in his career against the Mets. Peterson had shoulder inflammation in mid-August and spent the minimum 10 days on the injured list. He returned with a win as a reliever over the Baltimore Orioles Sept. 2, pitching four scoreless innings. His worst outing of the season came against the Philadelphia Phillies in New York on Monday. He allowed five runs in two innings, blaming poor fastball command. |
09-13-20 | Pirates v. Royals -140 | 0-11 | Win | 100 | 5 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units In the series finale, Pittsburgh right-hander Chad Kuhl (1-1, 3.38 ERA) is scheduled to face Kansas City right-hander Brad Keller (3-2, 2.60). Keller has been a killer at home. His 0.50 ERA, on one earned run in 18 innings over three starts at Kauffman Stadium, is the lowest home ERA in the big leagues. He's also been stingy on mistake pitches that find the seats. He has not given up a homer in his past 48 innings, since Detroit's Jake Rogers' solo shot Aug. 9. 2019. |
09-13-20 | Browns v. Ravens -7.5 | 6-38 | Win | 100 | 88 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Without a doubt, last year's most disappointing teams were the Cowboys & Browns. Now 12 straight losing seasons, missing the playoffs 17 straight years, not winning their division since 1989 (27 yrs - longest active drought in NFL - 27 years). They now have their 12th head coach (Kevin Stefanski) since 1999. The rest of their division has a combined 8 head coaches over that same span. For Ravens, Lamar Jackson just continues to amaze, despite coming up short in the playoffs the past 2 years. When he is on, he is unstoppable. |
09-13-20 | Eagles -5.5 v. Washington Football Team | 17-27 | Loss | -108 | 88 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Insane stat: the NFC East has gone 15 straight seasons with a different champion, extending the longest stretch since the NFL merger. Not good news for Philly, although McNabb & Co did it 4 straight times ('01 thru '04). Eagles 14-4 SU vs division foes since '17 (all 4 losses to Dallas). Contrast that to 'Skins tying franchise record in futility last season, with 13 losses, & have now lost 10 straight division games for first time since 1993-94. Hard to believe they won division in '12 & '15. |
09-13-20 | Bears +3 v. Lions | 27-23 | Win | 100 | 46 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Bears have missed the playoffs 8 of the past 9 years, & haven't won a playoff game since 2010. However, they've won 9 of their last 11 division games, with a defense which was 4th best in NFL last year. Lions ended up 2019 with a 9-game losing streak, their first since 2009-10. Worst record for Detroit in 10 years, but then again Stafford was injured for a good portion of the year. Lions: 0-6 SU in division (1st time since 2012). |
09-13-20 | Braves v. Nationals -165 | 8-4 | Loss | -165 | 4 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Braves (27-19) have won two of the first three games and five of nine meetings against the Nationals (17-27). Atlanta leads Philadelphia by 2 1/2 games in the National League East. Scherzer has somehow missed the Braves this season, but on Sunday he will be opposed by young right-hander Kyle Wright (0-4, 8.05). Scherzer is coming off one of his best performances of the season. He threw seven shutout innings in Washington's 6-1 win over Tampa Bay on Monday. In 24 career appearances, including 22 starts, against Atlanta, Scherzer is 10-8 with a 3.72 ERA. He has struck out 157 Braves in 140 1/3 innings. Wright, a No. 1 draft pick in 2017, is still looking for his first career win. He's 0-7 with a 7.86 ERA in 16 games, nine starts over three seasons. This year, he has bounced back and forth from the alternate training site and has made five starts for the Braves. His most recent outing was Tuesday, and Wright surrendered three home runs in an 8-0 loss to Miami. He pitched four innings and gave up five runs on seven hits |

09-12-20 | Coastal Carolina +7 v. Kansas | 38-23 | Win | 100 | 32 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units When a Big12 team takes on a member of the Sun Belt, the public invariably moves toward the Power 5 squad, such is the case in this contest. A year ago, the Chanticleers pulled off the minor upset of the Jayhawks, 12-7, in a game that featured the only favorite role for Kansas in the entire '19 season (9th such in the last 11 years). The 'Cleers return offensive linemen, & that is always key, as is the return of RB Marable, who posted 148 RYs in last year's meeting. The old adage, of "never back a bad team as a favorite" applies here, especially with the added fact that the Jays have no less than Baylor up next week. Thus the "look-ahead" angle has to be considered. Kansas returns only 9 starters, & with their recruiting woes, the green replacements are no answer |

09-12-20 | Reds v. Cardinals -125 | 1-7 | Win | 100 | 6 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Red manager David Bell opted to schedule rookie Tejay Antone (0-1, 2.49 ERA) for the start Saturday, skipping over Anthony DeSclafani, who has failed to last more than 4 1/3 innings in his past four starts. DeSclafani (1-2, 7.20 ERA) is 0-1 with a 10.13 ERA in two starts against the Cardinals this season. The Cardinals will start Dakota Hudson (2-2, 3.19 ERA). He won his latest start while allowing three runs on five hits in five innings on Sunday, beating the host Chicago Cubs 7-3. Hudson is 1-0 with a 0.77 ERA in two starts against the Reds this season. He struck out 13 batters in those games while walking only two. He is 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA in seven career appearances (six starts) against the Reds. |
09-12-20 | Astros v. Dodgers -145 | 7-5 | Loss | -145 | 5 h 11 m | Show
The Astros (22-23) will limp in to the series, mostly because of their eight defeats in their last nine games. Houston just lost four of five games at Oakland, dropping Thursday's contest 3-1 when the offense was held to two hits. Left-hander Julio Urias (3-0, 3.86 ERA) will start for the Dodgers (32-13) on Saturday. He has never faced the Astros. The Astros will try to change their recent fortunes with left-hander Framber Valdez (3-3, 3.61) on the mound. Valdez gave up three runs on four hits over 4 1/3 innings to the Dodgers on July 28 and took the loss. It was his only career appearance vs. L.A. |
09-12-20 | Clemson -32.5 v. Wake Forest | Top | 37-13 | Loss | -110 | 73 h 49 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Game of the Week The Tigers have had to live with that national title loss to LSU for 8 long months, and are chomping at the bit to get things going. An incredible SU record of 111-16 since '11, including 4 national title games. They couldn't contain the unstoppable, in last year's 42-25 loss to LSU & Joe Burrow, being outscored 35-8 to wind it up. This team has it all, & the fact the irrepressible Etienne has foregone the NFL to stay with this team speaks volumes. Clemson has outscored its last 25 lined opponents, 1,104-322, with a 353-61 point edge in its last 7 regular season tilts. Wake "D": 36.2 points per game in its last 5 games |
09-12-20 | Pirates v. Royals -114 | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 5 h 43 m | Show
The Royals will be going for their fifth straight win today, as they defeated the Pirates 4-3 behind rookie Kris Bubic's first career major league win Friday night. That followed rookie Brady Singer taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning Thursday night in Cleveland. Hernandez (0-0, 1.42 ERA) has pitched 6 1/3 innings out of the bullpen since making his debut Sept. 1. He came in in relief of Matt Harvey both times. He says he's ready. The Pirates will give Trevor Williams (1-6, 5.80 ERA) another chance in Saturday's contest. He had an up and down start his last time out, throwing 111 pitches in six innings. He struck out six batters and allowed only five hits, but three of those hits left the yard. He's allowed 10 homers in 40 1/3 innings this season. |
09-12-20 | Charlotte v. Appalachian State -17 | Top | 20-35 | Loss | -101 | 65 h 46 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NCAAF Play of the Day They're off a running once again. ASt has to be one of the top "under-the-radar" squads in the land. Note 5 consecutive bowl seasons (5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS in holiday contests), reaching 31 pts in all five, & ranking 9th in scoring for the '19 season. Returning 9 offensive starters, including duel-threat QB Thomas, ensures a continuance of this school's brilliance, despite the departure of first-year HC Drinkwitz (to Missouri). A year ago, the 49ers were stung for 47.3 points per game in their first 6 games. Lambs to slaughter |
09-12-20 | UL-Lafayette +11.5 v. Iowa State | 31-14 | Win | 100 | 63 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Cyclone spread magic has vanished, at least as far as their current 0-4 slide (-55 pts ATS), with a 60-26 point deficit in last 2, is concerned. QB Purdy rareturns (3,982 yds, 27 TDs), & RB Hall is certainly a keeper, so note that the Cyclones are a home power. The 'Cajuns have been an overland power (#7), & ranked 9th in scoring, as well as 8th in total "O". La-La averaged 38 points per game in 10 of its last 11 road regular season lined games, & has been a solid play on the road. |
09-11-20 | Reds v. Cardinals +105 | 3-1 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 23 m | Show
The Cardinals will start Adam Wainwright (4-0, 2.68 ERA) for the series opener at Busch Stadium. In his last start, Wainwright held the Cubs to two runs on six hits and one walk in 6 1/3 innings in a 4-2 victory. He struck out six. That came on the heels of his 7-2 complete-game victory over the Cleveland Indians. He allowed four hits, walked two and struck out nine. The Reds will counter with Luis Castillo (1-5, 3.95 ERA), who earned his first victory of the season in his last start. Castillo allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out eight in six innings as the Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2. He has not faced the Cardinals this season, but he is 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 10 career starts against them. |
09-11-20 | A's -170 v. Rangers | 10-6 | Win | 100 | 6 h 28 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Oakland is in firm control of the AL West and has its eye on the #1 overall seed in the American League. Texas lost yesterday, 6-2 to the Angels, and now has the worst run differential in all of baseball at -66. The A's are 6-2 when Michael Fiers starts this season. That includes a 2-0 record vs. Texas. Of those two starts, the second one (which was here in Arlington) was better as Fiers allowed just a single unearned run and three hits across six innings. The Rangers' offense has been dreadful this season, scoring just 3.7 rpg with a .214 team average. As bad as the Rangers' offense has been, the starting rotation might be worse. Once you get past Lance Lynn, Texas starters have only two wins all season! They are going to go with an opener here (Garcia) before turning things over to Jordan Lyles, who has an 8.07 ERA. |
09-11-20 | Braves -141 v. Nationals | 7-8 | Loss | -141 | 5 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Braves veteran right-hander Josh Tomlin (2-2, 3.77 ERA) held Washington to one run on three hits over six innings of a 10-3 win last time out. The current Nationals roster is batting a combined .242 over 100 bats against him. Erick Fedde (1-3, 5.29 ERA) will take the ball for Washington. The 27-year-old right-hander has been reached for 14 runs over 14 2/3 innings of work through his last three starts. Most recently, he was tagged with four runs on six hits and four walks at Atlanta on Sunday to fall to 0-1 with a 17.36 ERA in three career appearances (two starts) against the Braves. Nationals are 4-12 in their last 16 games as an underdog and 6-16 in their last 22 home games. |
09-08-20 | White Sox -140 v. Pirates | 4-5 | Loss | -140 | 21 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Chicago White Sox, who open a two-game series today against the Pirates in Pittsburgh, are in a groove. The White Sox (26-15) have won four straight games, 16 of their past 20, and are 5-2 on a nine-game, 10-day road trip. Chicago right-hander Dylan Cease (5-2, 3.29 ERA) is scheduled to start against Pittsburgh right-hander Joe Musgrove (0-4, 6.62 ERA). Cease will be making his ninth start, sixth on the road. He is coming off a win Thursday at Kansas City when he gave up three runs and four hits in five innings. He has never faced the Pirates. usgrove, Pittsburgh's opening day starter, will be making his second start since coming off the IL. In his return, he gave up two runs and three hits in three-plus innings, with four strikeouts and no walks in a loss to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. He is expected to be given a longer leash today. |
09-08-20 | Rays -150 v. Nationals | 3-5 | Loss | -150 | 5 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Tampa Bay hasn't lost any of its past 10 series -- winning eight and splitting two -- dating to a three-game sweep by the Orioles in Baltimore from July 31 to Aug. 2. Two days before that, the Rays dropped a two-game series in Atlanta to the Braves. Before his club's first meeting with Tampa Bay, Nationals manager Dave Martinez said the Rays held the American League's best record for a reason. Washington starter, Anibal Sanchez (1-4, 6.48 ERA) will be tasked with backing up Scherzer's outstanding outing. The right-hander was hit hard in his last two starts in Boston and Philadelphia, giving up 16 hits and nine runs (six earned) in just 8 1/3 innings. Sanchez, 36, is 3-4 with a 5.61 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts) against the Rays during his 15-year career. |
09-07-20 | Islanders v. Lightning -145 | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 9 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning advancing to the Eastern Conference finals is no surprise, as this marks the FOURTH time in six seasons that they've reached the conference finals, including a trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015.As for the Islanders, they are in the NHL's version of the 'Final Four' for the first time since 1993Looking at current form, one could argue that this series is between the NHL's two-best teams as of this moment. Tampa Bay won TWO of three in its seeding round robin and then eliminated each of its two postseason opponents 4-1. In goal, the Islanders turned to backup Thomas Greiss for Game 7 vs Philly and while Greiss got the shut out, he only faced 16 shots. Not sure whether Barry Trotz will return to Varmalov (9-4, 2.00 GAA & .921 SP) or stay with Greiss (2-1, 1.08 GAA & .960). As for Tampa Bay, there is no question about who will be in goal tonight, as Andrei Vasilevskiy has played all 13 games, going 10-3 with a 1.91 GAA and .931 SP. I'll go with the Lightning to take the first game |
09-07-20 | BYU +1 v. Navy | 55-3 | Win | 100 | 34 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The BYU Cougars have clawed their way to a 22-7 SU and 19-10 ATS mark against military teams dating back as far as 1980. In fact, in their only meeting against Navy they beat them, 31-10. Navy was the only team in the nation to improve both its offense and defense over 100 yards per game each last season’s 11-win campaign. However, coming off an 11-win effort last season, their offense lacks returning production (No. 100 overall) in 2020 and figures to take time to become a cohesive unit. Consider: BYU is 4-1 Game One and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games on field turf. While Navy is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five versus Independent teams. |
09-07-20 | Rangers v. Mariners -140 | 4-8 | Win | 100 | 8 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Left-hander Kolby Allard (0-4, 5.40 ERA), who turned 23 last month, is scheduled to start Monday afternoon's series finale for the Rangers. He's 1-1 with an 8.53 ERA in two career starts against the Mariners. The loss came Aug. 21 in Seattle, when he allowed four runs on five hits in just two-thirds of an inning. The Mariners will send ace Marco Gonzales (4-2, 3.09 ERA) to the mound. The Rangers beat Gonzales 4-2 on Aug. 11 in Arlington, Texas, but he's coming off his second career complete game, a four-hitter in a 2-1 victory against the host Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 31. For the rebuilding Mariners (18-22), their five-game winning streak has pulled them within three games of a wild-card playoff berth in the American League. |
09-07-20 | Cardinals v. Cubs -174 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Kyle Hendricks has allowed 3 ER or less in six of his eight starts for the Cubs this season. In four starts at Wrigley, he has a 2.60 ERA and 0.795 WHIP. He has a quality start against St. Louis here (back on 8/17) and is also coming off a gem where he held Pittsburgh to one run over six innings. He has a 3.00 ERA in 19 career starts vs. the Cardinals. Cards starter Johan Oviedo has made only three starts in 2020 and has yet to make it past the fifth inning. He has a good WHIP, but the ERA is still up at 4.29. More importantly, the Cards have lost all three times he's started. The Cubs are 37-13 as a home favorite of -175 to -250 the L3 seasons including 5-1 in 2020 |
09-07-20 | Phillies -117 v. Mets | 9-8 | Win | 100 | 4 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Mets will look to lock up a series win Monday when they host the Phillies in the finale of a four-game set. The left-handed Peterson (4-1, 3.03 ERA) is scheduled to return to the rotation after a brief stint in the bullpen when he opposes the right-handed Wheeler (4-0, 2.20). After giving up three runs over four innings against the Yankees on Aug. 28, Peterson was sent to the bullpen. He made his first professional relief appearance last Wednesday. Wheeler, who missed the 2015 and '16 seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery, entered Sunday ranked among the NL's top 10 in wins (four), ERA (2.20) and innings pitched (45) and earned the victory in his first appearance against the Mets on Aug. 16, when he allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings in the Phillies' 6-2 win. |
09-06-20 | Rangers v. Mariners -122 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right-hander Jordan Lyles (1-3, 8.59) is scheduled to start Sunday for the Rangers, who have lost four games in a row and 16 of their past 19. Lyles is 1-3 with a 6.62 ERA in eight career appearances against the Mariners, including six starts. This will be his third start against Seattle this season. Dunn has allowed just two hits over 12 scoreless innings in his past two starts combined, against the Rangers and Los Angeles Angels. Dunn is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA against Texas. |
09-06-20 | Diamondbacks v. Giants -132 | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 6 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Cueto (2-0, 4.75 ERA) gave up one run and three hits over 6 2/3 innings while taking a no-decision against Arizona in that last game. He struck out six and walked three. The lone run he allowed came on Eduardo Escobar's homer with one out in the seventh. Two batters later, he was removed after 106 pitches. Cueto has fared well against the Diamondbacks in his career with an 11-3 record and 3.03 ERA in 17 career starts. He has shut down left fielder David Peralta (0-for-12) and shortstop Nick Ahmed (0-for-10). Left-hander Alex Young (1-2, 4.50 ERA) is making his fifth start of the season for Arizona. He moved into the rotation after Bumgarner suffered a back injury on Aug. 9. Young, who turns 27 on Wednesday, is 0-2 during the four-start stretch and hasn't pitched more than five innings. He gave up four runs (two earned) and six hits in five innings while losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. |
09-06-20 | Phillies +136 v. Mets | 1-14 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 15 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New York is 5-14 in its last 19 games against the Phillies (19-16), who are 10-2 over their last 12 games. Philadelphia is coming off one of its worst games of late as it struck out a season-high 13 times and did little offensively beyond Rhys Hoskins' fifth homer in seven games. Philadelphia will hope to produce a better display for Nola (4-2, 2.45), who is 8-1 with a 2.87 ERA in 14 career starts against the Mets. Nola dominated the Mets Aug. 15 when he scattered three hits and struck out eight in seven innings of a 6-2 win. Nola , in consecutive starts against the Washington Nationals, the right-hander allowed two runs and struck out 17 in 15 innings. |
09-05-20 | Arkansas State v. Memphis -18.5 | 24-37 | Loss | -115 | 62 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Thanks to the recently revised CFB Rankings (post Big Ten and Pac-12 defections), the Tigers are the only ranked team playing this week and they take the field with a new head coach in Ryan Silverfield, a four-year assistant at Memphis. Don’t expect them to miss a beat as he knows the team like the back of his hand. Look for the Red Wolves to fall to 9-31-1 SU in openers here |
09-05-20 | SMU v. Texas State +22 | 31-24 | Win | 100 | 58 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The visiting Mustangs put a 30-point beat down on the Bobcats last season but are only 5-18 SU and 6-15 ATS in season openers. That figures to have TSU fully focused here and with head coach Jake Spivital back in his second season in San Marcos, expect the home cats to improve to 7-2-1 ATS in their last ten games as dogs of 20-plus points |
09-05-20 | Middle Tennessee State v. Army -3 | 0-42 | Win | 100 | 55 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units After having a three-year bowl skein snapped with a 5-win effort last season, the Black Knights are a dangerous “mission team” this year. That’s not good news for the visiting Blue Man Group as military teams in “mission” seasons are 15-1 SU as home favorites, winning by an average margin of 14.4 points per game. With CUSA dogs of less than 6 points just 5-28 SU and 13-20 ATS against military teams, expect Army to begin their “mission” today. |
09-04-20 | Diamondbacks v. Giants -123 | 6-5 | Loss | -123 | 11 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Diamondbacks (14-24) have lost five in a row, swept in a three-game series by the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers in a series that ended Thursday night. Arizona has dropped 13 of its last 14 games. The Diamondbacks (14-24) have lost eight straight road games and are 1-5 this season against San Francisco, losing all three games in their first series at Oracle Park from Aug. 21-23. Taylor Clarke is set to make his third start of the season for Arizona Friday, after opening the season in the bullpen. Clarke (1-0, 2.22) is 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in four career starts against the Giants, his highest number of starts against any opponent. |
09-04-20 | White Sox -161 v. Royals | 7-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Singer moved quickly through the minor leagues, going from Class-A Wilmington to Double-A Northwest Arkansas in his only season in the minors. The Royals had two starters on the injured list to start the 2020 season, so Singer was tabbed to start the second game of the season in Cleveland. So far in the 2020 season, Singer is 1-3 with a 5.19 ERA. His first win came against the Twins, but he's lost his last two decisions. In his last start on Aug. 29 against the White Sox (23-15), he took a no-decision when he allowed three runs on five hits in five innings. The White Sox, coming off an 11-6 win over the Royals on Thursday and a half-game back of the Cleveland Indians for first place in the AL Central, will send Dane Dunning (0-0, 2.89 ERA) to the mound. Dunning has just two major league starts with the last one coming against the Royals (14-24). He pitched five hitless shutout innings against Kansas City, allowing just one walk while striking out seven. Ryan O'Hearn's lineout to right fielder Adam Engel to open the second was the only ball to leave the infield against Dunning |
09-04-20 | Tigers v. Twins -151 | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 3 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Left-hander Matthew Boyd (1-4, 7.27 ERA) will start the opener for the Tigers while Minnesota will counter with right-hander Randy Dobnak (5-2, 3.12) in a rematch of a pitching matchup that took place last Saturday in Detroit in a game won by the Tigers, 8-2. That was the first victory since September 2019 for Boyd, who allowed two runs (one earned), including a 437-foot solo homer by Nelson Cruz, on four hits over six innings while striking out six to improve to 8-6 with a 4.69 ERA in 20 career starts against the Twins. He is 3-5 with a 6.02 ERA in nine starts at Target Field. |
09-03-20 | White Sox -130 v. Royals | 11-6 | Win | 100 | 13 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Duffy (2-2, 4.11 ERA) will make his eighth start of the year, and his second straight vs. the White Sox, tonight. Duffy did not get a decision in the Royals' 6-5 walk-off loss in Chicago on Friday. He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. It will be his seventh start within the division, and fifth in a row vs. either Minnesota or Chicago. He's 2-0 with a 4.12 ERA in those four starts. He's 4-3 in 11 starts vs. the White Sox at Kauffman Stadium in his career, and has a 5.60 career ERA. The White Sox are in a three-way battle in the American League Central, trailing the Indians by a game and leading the Twins by a half-game. They will counter with right-hander Dylan Cease (4-2, 3.00 ERA). It will be the second straight start for Cease against the Royals. He took a no-decision in his last outing when he allowed one run on one hit. |
