09-24-16 | Stanford -3 v. UCLA | Top | 22-13 | Win | 100 | 107 h 32 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit PAC - 12 Game of the Week Just a 50-yard edge for Cards over Southern California, but a 27-10 win, behind McCaffrey's 165 rushing yards and 56-yard TD catch. Now +138 points ATS in their last 20 games. Just 125 and 50 rushing yards for Ucla versus only 2 legitimate opponents, so this will depend almost entirely on Rosen, who ranks 73rd in passing efficiency. And the Bruins have been lit up for 30+ points 8 times since last year. This is a very reasonable number. |
09-24-16 | Ball State -3.5 v. Florida Atlantic | 31-27 | Win | 100 | 105 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units TD spread swing off last week's results, with Cards giving up 3 rushing yards in rout of Eastern Kentucky, and Owls in off 336-82 rushing yard deficit, with 4 turn overs. Now -131½ points ATS L6 games, while visitor is 11-3 ATS in Florida Atlantic games. |
09-24-16 | New Mexico State v. Troy -20.5 | 6-52 | Win | 100 | 105 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Nice defense displayed by Ags, allowing 62 points, 29 first downs and 683 yards at potent Kentucky. Trojans took 'em by 45 last year, with 5 first half TD passes from Silver, who tossed 3 in last weeks upset of Southern Miss. Have to go with Troy in this one |
09-24-16 | Central Florida -6.5 v. Florida International | Top | 53-14 | Win | 100 | 67 h 20 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NCAAF Play of the Day Vastly improved Knights took Maryland into OT, despite 4-0 turn over deficit. Nicely balanced 455 yards in that one. FIU owns 211-47 point deficit in their L5 lined games, and QB Holman hurting. Give up the points |
09-24-16 | Boise State -13 v. Oregon State | 38-24 | Win | 100 | 102 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Bronco bye week came at the appropriate time, after their 31-28 squeaking win over Washington State, allowing 480 passing yards and 26 first downs. Now away, and visitor is 7-0 ATS in Boise games. Beavers snapped 10-game losing streak (IdahoSt), with 5 TAs the key, as just 17 first downs. |
09-19-16 | Eagles +3.5 v. Bears | 29-14 | Win | 100 | 23 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Bears' 9 point loss at Houston went against the norm, as the underdog was on a nice 9-1-1 ATS run in Chicago games, to end the 2015 season. Tight games are the rule, as 10 of the Bears' final 12 games were decided by 5 points or less. In off allowing 10 unanswered points down the stretch of loss to Texans. The Eagles had a 403-288 yard and 39:20-20:40 time edges in win over Cleveland, with Wentz a solid 278 yards with 2 touchdown and 0 interceptions. Philadelphia is 8-1 ATS on Monday, when off a SU win, while the Bears are 0-6 ATS at home off an AFC contest. |
09-18-16 | Colts +6.5 v. Broncos | 20-34 | Loss | -105 | 91 h 6 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Champs won't approach the fever pitch of expectation as they did in opening thriller vs Panthers. But theColts are hardly slouches, with the return of Luck who had 385 passing yards with 3 touchdownd and 0 interceptions last week. Indy trailed all but 33 seconds of that one, losing to Detroit in the final 0:04. That one was all offense, which won't be the case here, as Broncos have no peers, defensively. However, the dog is now 12-2-1 ATS when Denver is at home, while Pagano is 10-1 ATS off SU loss. Broncs 0-9 ATS vs Colts, and Indy 6-1 ATS vs AFC West. |
09-18-16 | Falcons +4.5 v. Raiders | 35-28 | Win | 100 | 23 h 0 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Improved Raiders pulled 35-34 upset of the Saints due to Carr TD pass and Carr 2-point conversion pass in final 0:47 last week. So 319 passing yards but just 1 TD pass - the big one. The underdog is now 9-5 ATS in Oakland games (2-4 LA), which coincides with fact that the Raiders were installed as a favorite 4 times last year, covering just once, by 2 points. Atlanta's loss to Tampa moved the success of the underdog to 11-2 in Falcon contests of late. Ryan LW had 334 passing yards so he still can move the ball, with Atlanta once again in the fray. OT wouldn't surprise me in this one. |
09-18-16 | 49ers v. Panthers -13 | 27-46 | Win | 100 | 88 h 44 m | Show
Rating; 2 Units If the Panthers don't come roaring back following their tough loss to the Broncos, I will be surprised. Just 3 points for Carolina in the 2nd half of their loss. Sure, this is a Denver/Minny sandwich for the Panthers, but note that last years only regular season loss was followed with a 38-10 crushing of the Bucs. Carolina is 6-1 ATS hosting the Niners, and are on a 15-8-1 ATS run, with 7 of those 8 losses by |
09-18-16 | Dolphins v. Patriots -6.5 | 24-31 | Win | 100 | 88 h 38 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Second of back-to-back brutal road games to start the season for Dolphins, nearly beating the Seahawks, before losing 12-10 in the final 0:31, although that one wasn't as tight as actual margin, with Miami on the short end of 21-11 first down and 352-214 yard margins. Also a 254-173 point deficit for the Fish in their last 10 games, as well as a 5-16 ATS slide. The Pats keep on doing it. Garoppolo for Brady (264 passing yards with 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions, with no Gronk, along with 3 starting linemen. Patriots are 13-1 ATS off a SU non-division dog win. This seems to be a reasonable spread |
09-17-16 | Troy v. Southern Miss -10.5 | Top | 37-31 | Loss | -104 | 103 h 29 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Mismatch of the Week Trojans showed their mettle in tight loss to Clemson (29-point cover, only 28-yard deficit). But Eagles have an 83-0 point edge in their L6 quarters, and are 10-2 ATS. QB Mullens, RB Smith, etc, etc |
09-17-16 | UL-Monroe v. Georgia Southern -24.5 | 21-23 | Loss | -115 | 102 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units I continue to ride this meal ticket. Top rushing team the L2 years, and 2nd (Air Force) this year. La-Monroe licking its wounds off 59-17 loss to Okies, and now a 788-329 point deficit their L22 lined game. Georgia Southern again. |
09-17-16 | Oregon +3.5 v. Nebraska | 32-35 | Win | 100 | 99 h 28 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Nebraska shaking dust from wrenching '15 campaign, with 2 early cakers, although just 4 and 9 point covers, with 28-0 windup versus Wyoming. Armstrong: another 377 passing yards. Ducks as dogs? Well, try 5-0 in that role since '11. Check Prukop and Freeman: 331 passing yards and 209 rushing yards. Take the points. |
09-17-16 | Alabama -10 v. Ole Miss | Top | 48-43 | Loss | -106 | 99 h 27 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit SEC Game of the Week Oh, how Alabama wants this one, after 2 straight losses to Mississippi, with last years 5 turn overs the key. Kelly bombed 'Tide for 3 long TD passes last year, but Ole Miss was manhandled in 2nd half by Florida State. Visitor is 10-1 ATS in Alabama games, so site not a problem. Revenge rears its head here. |
09-17-16 | San Diego State -10.5 v. Northern Illinois | Top | 42-28 | Win | 100 | 99 h 24 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NCAAF Play of the Day Aztecs lost cover versus Cal in final 0:56, despite another splendid showing by Pumphrey who had 281 rushing yards (#1 rusher in land). Now +168 points ATS last 11 lined games, with a 135-38 point edge in L3 road games. NIU has 177-71 point deficit their L4 games, as well as a 536-290 rushing yard deficit this year. |
09-17-16 | Florida State v. Louisville +2.5 | 20-63 | Win | 100 | 96 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units An 84-14 point edge in Florida State's last 6 quarters. Francois: 69%, with 5 TD's and 1 interception, with Cook the assassin. Florida State covered its last road game by 22½ points. But Cards in off ACC record 845 yards, with amazing 610 from Jackson (411 passing yards, 199 rushing yards). And Louisviille led its opener 56-0 at half. A classic. |
09-12-16 | Rays +155 v. Blue Jays | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The stumbling Blue Jays have lost seven of their last nine as they prepare to host the last-place Tampa Bay Rays today to begin a critical three-game series before heading to the West Coast for the next seven contests. Tampa Bay starter, Odorizzi has yielded 14 total runs in his previous nine starts while completing at least six innings in eight of them. Odorizzi, is 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA in four starts against Toronto in 2016. While Toronto starter, Liriano, is 2-3 with a 5.32 ERA in nine games (eight starts) lifetime against the Rays. |
09-11-16 | Patriots +6 v. Cardinals | 23-21 | Win | 100 | 97 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units These 2 squads were 1 win away from meeting in SuperBowl 50. Missed extra point put Pats behind "8 ball" the entire game in 20-18 loss to Denver, while Cards were crushed, 49-15 in seven turn over effort versus the Panthers. No Brady for Pats until game #5, so Garoppolo gets the call, opening versus the league's 7th-ranked defense. However, remember the fine job that Cassel did, in filling in for Tom in '08, as Belichick simply adjusts to the situation. This one should go to the wire, so take the points. |
09-11-16 | Cubs v. Astros +140 | 9-5 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Chicago starter, Arrieta took a tough loss last time out against San Francisco, allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings in a 3-2 setback. The 30-year-old has just two quality starts in his last five outings and has issued 17 walks in 31 2/3 innings over that span. Arrieta has never faced the Astros. While Houston starter, Fiers picked up his 10th win Monday at Cleveland, giving up two runs and seven hits over five frames. Fiers is 3-1 with a 1.71 ERA in five games (four starts) against the Cubs. |
09-11-16 | Rangers v. Angels +120 | 2-3 | Win | 120 | 3 h 24 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Texas starter, Lewis is set to make his first start in the majors in more than two months after he was diagnosed with a strained muscle in his back following his only loss of the season on June 21. The 37-year-old topped out at 66 pitches and was ineffective over three minor-league rehab starts, failing to factor into the decision in any of those outings despite giving up 11 runs over 10 innings. Lewis is only 8-11 with a 6.26 ERA in 26 games (24 starts) against the Angels. LAA starter, Weaver allowed one run in six frames to get the victory versus the Rangers in his season debut in April 10, improving to 16-8 with a 3.40 ERA in 38 starts against them. |
09-11-16 | Royals +147 v. White Sox | 2-0 | Win | 147 | 2 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Kansas City Royals have handed Chris Sale more losses than any other opponent and look to continue that success in the finale of a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox. Kansas City starter, Kennedy stretched his unbeaten streak to eight starts despite giving up four runs for the second straight outing in an 11-5 victory at Minnesota on Monday. Prior to the last two starts, the 31-year-old had permitted a total of five runs over six turns, including 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Aug. 10. Chicago starter, Sale has won only once since the All-Star break and his last three starts have typified some of the tough luck he's had in the second half. |
09-11-16 | Browns v. Eagles -4 | 10-29 | Win | 100 | 89 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Browns welcome back Hue Jackson to the head coaching but they need all the help they can get, as they're on 1-10 SU & 2-8 ATS runs. How about a 275-137 point deficit in their last 10 games (-68 points ATS), while topping 13 points in just 3 of those games. RG3 has taken a lot of hits from detractors, but he was a true force when healthy. Eagles have said goodbye to Kelly, finishing the preseason unscathed, with Wentz getting the QB call. Eagle "D" a disaster last year, but should flex their muscles in opener. |
09-11-16 | Chargers +7.5 v. Chiefs | 27-33 | Win | 100 | 89 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Chiefs are again figured among sure-fire playoff contenders, as well they should be, as Kansas City has made the postseason in 2-of-3 years, under Reid (11-5 during both the '13 & '15 regular seasons). But remember last year, when they opened at 1-5, both SU & ATS, before taking their next 11 on the field. Thus a solid TD favorite versus an underrated division opponent, San Diego, which has held the Chiefs to10 &19 points in their last 2 trips to Kansas City. The visitor is a profitable play in this one, as the road team is 18-4 & 34-9 ATS in Charger & Chief games respectively |
09-11-16 | Vikings -2.5 v. Titans | 25-16 | Win | 100 | 24 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Loss of Bridgewater could take more than a year (torn ACL & dislocated knee). Minnesota has a bolstered offensive line, which should really help Peterson. Minnesota is on ATS runs of 22-5 overall, 14-3 last season, and an awesome 11-2 on the road. Titans calling on Mularkey as possible savior, following 3-13 campaign, which featured an 0-6-1 ATS windup, while scoring only 11.3 poinst per game in 10-of-last-12 games. |
09-10-16 | Texas Tech +3 v. Arizona State | Top | 55-68 | Loss | -106 | 99 h 28 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Inter-Conference Game of the Week Both teams are off to routs of horrible teams, with the Raiders in their usual passing display with 633 passing yards (Mahomes had 483 yards with 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The Sun Devils in 34-10 2nd half edge for their wipe out, but return only 4 offensive starters. The did get 180 passing yards and 89 rushing yards from Wilkins, but they are allowing 369 passing yards. Texas Tech can't wait for this one. |
09-10-16 | Virginia Tech +11.5 v. Tennessee | Top | 24-45 | Loss | -110 | 98 h 34 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NCAAF Play of the Day Vols were tied for 8th in the land in the "Polls" column, after winding up 2015 with a 35 points per game average, and 9 returning offensive starters. But they needed a 67-yard Dobbs TD pass to extend Appalachian State into OT (20-13 win), with only 127 rushing yards. Beamer-less Tech overcame 4 lost fumbles for rout of Liberty, allowing just 1 offensive TD. Hokies as a double digit dog is definitely the play. |
09-10-16 | BYU +3.5 v. Utah | 19-20 | Win | 100 | 96 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units BYU has a score to settle after last years bowl meeting and have the weapons to do it (213-115 rushing yard edge at Arizona). They were +40½ points ATS in first 3 games last year. Only 19 first downs for Utah versus Southern Utah, but that defense is solid, allowing just 158 yards. However, Utah is -29 points ATS last 7 games. |
09-10-16 | Georgia Southern -13 v. South Alabama | Top | 24-9 | Win | 100 | 97 h 36 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Game of the Week It was a huge comeback win for Jags at Mississippi State last week, overcoming a 20-7 deficit in the 4th, behind QB Davis and RB Thomas. But they had a 239-94 rushing yard deficit in the game. That in itself spells big trouble versus and unstoppable Georgia Southern running game that has been #1 in the nation the L2 years. Last week in their opener they had 420 rushing yards along with 34 first downs. |
09-10-16 | Florida Atlantic v. Miami (Fla) -24 | 10-38 | Win | 100 | 95 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Yes, I know that the road team is 11-2 ATS in FAU games, as well as 10-4 ATS in Miami contests. But the University of Miami has 9 returning offensive starters, and new head coach Richt (from Georgia). Try 42 3rd quarter points in rout of Florida A&M. Owls barely got past Southern Illinois, allowing 26 first downs and 530 yards. |
09-10-16 | Ohio +3 v. Kansas | 37-21 | Win | 100 | 91 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units KU in off snapping 15-game losing streak, doing it in style 55-6 (2 TDs in every quarter) vs RIU (399-49 passing yard edge). But Kansas gave up >40 points 8 times last year. Ohio clicked on 75-yard TD pass in final 0:38 for 38-35 lead versus Texas State, only to lose 56-54 in 3rd OT (missed 2-point try). A must regroup against a team that has only won 1 game in their last 16. |
09-08-16 | Panthers v. Broncos +3 | 20-21 | Win | 107 | 25 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units What a way to start the season with the last Super Bowl rematch on the 1st Thursday of season is unheard of. No more Manning, so untested Siemian gets the call versus this very good team, which has had to live with that loss for 7 months. In their last meeting the Bronco "D" forced 4 TOs, and had 7 sacks of Cam, 1 defensive TD and another score on 4-yard drive. So an automatic Panther call, right?, as they're on 15-7 ATS run, and at 32.5 points per game over their L10 games. But that Denver "D" seems made to contain this machine. Grab the defending champs as home dogs . |
09-05-16 | Tigers +101 v. White Sox | 5-3 | Win | 101 | 5 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Detroit starter, Verlander entered June with a 4-5 record but he's 10-2 since that time and has surrendered two runs or fewer in 11 of his last 12 starts. He did not factor in the decision last time out against Sale and the White Sox despite allowing only three hits while striking out nine over seven innings. Verlander, who is 19-13 with a 3.87 ERA against Chicago. While Chicago starter, Sale has won only once in eight starts since the All-Star break. |
09-05-16 | Rangers -112 v. Mariners | 6-14 | Loss | -112 | 5 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Mariners were outscored 28-11 in Texas, part of a stretch in which they have dropped 10 of 12 overall to fall five games out of the second wild card. Pitching has been a culprit in the tailspin for Seattle, which has allowed fewer than four runs only once in the last dozen contests. The Rangers (82-55), meanwhile, own the best record in the American League and are 37-20 versus division foes. Texas starter, Hamels beat Seattle with a pair of seven-inning stints earlier this season, permitting three runs total. While Seattle starter, Hernandez matched his shortest start of the season at Texas on Wednesday, giving up six runs on four hits and four walks over four innings to drop to 17-23 against the Rangers. |
09-05-16 | Orioles +104 v. Rays | 7-3 | Win | 104 | 2 h 27 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Baltimore starter, Jimenez, who is 4-2 with a 2.87 ERA in six career appearances against the Rays. While Tampa Bay starter, Andriese has struggled since returning to the rotation last month, especially in his last five starts where he has permitted 24 runs over 25 innings. The 27-year-old California native gave up season highs of seven runs and 10 hits across four innings last time out against Boston. Adam Jones is 3-for-5 versus Andriese, who is 0-2 with a 7.04 ERA against Baltimore after suffering a loss in June. Baltimore has had their way versus the Rays in 2016 -- winning nine of 12 games and launching 19 homers. |
09-04-16 | Nationals v. Mets -128 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lugo has made a seamless transition from the bullpen while going 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA in his last three starts and provided much-needed help for the Mets’ injury-plagued starting rotation. The 26-year-old rookie allowed two runs over six innings and retired the final eight batters he faced in last Tuesday’s 7-4 victory over Miami. Lugo has pitched well at Citi Field, going 1-1 with a 2.76 ERA in six games. |
09-04-16 | Angels +125 v. Mariners | 4-2 | Win | 125 | 6 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Shoemaker won for the third time in as many outings in Monday's triumph over Cincinnati, allowing two runs on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts over as many innings. Since posting a 9.12 ERA over his first five turns this season, the Eastern Michigan product has recorded a 2.96 ERA over his last 21 starts. While Seattle starter Iwakuma fell to 0-3 with a 5.63 ERA over his last three trips to the mound following Monday's loss to Texas, giving up five runs on six hits across only three innings. The 35-year-old has surrendered four home runs during his slide and is in danger of matching his career high in that department from 2013 if he yields another homer before the end of the season |
09-04-16 | Red Sox v. A's +118 | 0-1 | Win | 118 | 6 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Graveman had his quest for a third consecutive victory stopped Tuesday as he took the loss at Houston after giving up three runs and four hits in seven innings. The 25-year-old native of Alabama yielded a total of one run over 15 2/3 frames in his previous two outings, including his first career shutout Aug. 19 versus the White Sox in Chicago. Graveman has made two appearances against Boston in his career, allowing two runs and seven hits over seven innings without recording a decision. |
09-03-16 | Clemson -7 v. Auburn | Top | 19-13 | Loss | -111 | 118 h 59 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit Inter-Conference Game of the Week A premier matchup the first week of the NCAAF season, despite Eagles failing to get a single preseason vote, while Clemson is once again figured as one of the Top 2 teams in the nation. As Watson is under center for Clemson, there is only 1 way to go. Now +115 points ATS in last 15 games, and on 27-4 SU run. Auburn still respectable, but outgained only 4 opponents last year |
09-03-16 | Southern Miss +7 v. Kentucky | Top | 44-35 | Win | 100 | 116 h 13 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NCAAF Game of the Week Can the hapless 'Cats finally turn the corner? Have been whipping boys since '10, but their faithful have hopes of a resurgence, behind 9 returning offensive starters, although that defense is, as always, cause for concern. I rode the Eagles, with much success, last year, including a 167-44 point edge in their L3 regular season road games. Chalk inviting 9-0 in UK games, but not here |
09-03-16 | North Carolina v. Georgia -2.5 | 24-33 | Win | 100 | 114 h 58 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gone from the Bulldog sideline in former HC Richt, who was top man for 15 years. Replaced by 'Bama DC Smart, who should extend traditionally strong 'Dawg Defense. Lambert returns at QB (63%), along with 7 other offensive starters. Tar Heels (+98 points ATS L11 games) without all-around talents of QB Williams, but Trubisky able replacement |
09-03-16 | Boise State -20 v. UL-Lafayette | Top | 45-10 | Win | 100 | 109 h 37 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NCAAF Play of the Day Quite a comedown for Broncos, despite last year's 9-4 mark, as they were -107½ points ATS in L6 regular season games, before routs in final 2 outings (38½ bowl cover). UL-La lost L2 home games by 46 points ATS, and came from 8-1 line skein to current 2-7-1 ATS mark. No offense or defense to compete |
09-03-16 | Western Michigan +5.5 v. Northwestern | 22-21 | Win | 100 | 109 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units 'Cats an interesting outfit, with just 2 winning seasons over last 5 years, but both featured 10-3 marks. Also interesting is in '15, their 3 losses came by combined 123-16 score. Sort of like living on borrowed time, and note the dog at 11-5 ATS in NW contests. Broncs return proficient QB Terrell (#7 in nation), and enough starters for a tight game |
09-02-16 | Army +16 v. Temple | 28-13 | Win | 100 | 91 h 24 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Right, Cadets have been whipping boys for past 2 decades with last winning season coming in '96. Enter this year off 2-10 campaign, so more of the same obviously expected. But note that no less than 7 of last year's losses came by |
08-29-16 | Yankees v. Royals +119 | 5-8 | Win | 119 | 7 h 44 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New York starter, Pineda escaped Seattle last Monday with a no-decision after surrendering five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings against his former team. The 27-year-old Dominican has been victorious only once in his last five outings and has yielded five runs in four of his last nine turns. Pineda fell to 3-4 lifetime against Kansas City on May 11, when he was tagged for six runs on six hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings at home. |
08-29-16 | A's +160 v. Astros | 0-6 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Oakland starter, Manaea shined in a win over Cleveland on Tuesday, allowing one run and a season low-tying three hits while fanning eight over seven innings. The one run came on a home run and the 24-year-old has allowed eight of those in his last six outings. Manaea's major-league debut came against the Astros on April 29 and he allowed four runs in five innings, but the former first-round pick rebounded to spin seven scoreless in a no-decision at Houston on July 10. While Houston starter, after allowing three runs in 18 1/3 innings over his first three career starts, Musgrove has been pounded for 13 runs and 19 hits over 9 1/3 frames in his last two appearances. He also has just four strikeouts in those rocky outings after producing 21 over the course of the first three. |
08-29-16 | Mariners +140 v. Rangers | 3-6 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 28 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Seattle starter, Iwakuma has factored into the decision in each of his last 18 turns (13-5, 3.56 ERA), although he lost consecutive outings for the first time during that streak after surrendering three runs over six innings Wednesday versus the New York Yankees. Despite his recent struggles, the 35-year-old is 5-3 with a 2.77 ERA in eight turns since the All-Star break. Iwakuma defeated Texas by allowing three runs over seven frames to improve to 9-5 with a 3.38 ERA against the Rangers in 18 career games (17 starts). |
08-28-16 | Reds +104 v. Diamondbacks | 2-11 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Arizona starter, Bradley allowed three runs in five innings Tuesday against Atlanta and has gone 0-2 with an 8.22 ERA in five starts this month. The 24-year-old missed time in 2014 and 2015 due to injury and could be making one of his final starts this season if the Diamondbacks decide to impose an innings limit on their talented rookie. Bradley allowed three runs and issued five walks over five frames in a 6-2 loss to Cincinnati on July 22. |
08-28-16 | Padres +135 v. Marlins | 3-1 | Win | 135 | 2 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Andrew Cashner was expected to make his first start against his former team in the series finale but was scratched due to a blister, prompting the Marlins to recall Nicolino from Triple-A New Orleans. The 24-year-old was bounced back to the minors last month after allowing a total of 18 runs and 33 hits in 19 1/3 innings over his last four major-league turns. Nicolino was knocked around for six earned runs in 4 2/3 frames in his last minor-league start on Monday. |
08-28-16 | Orioles +108 v. Yankees | 5-0 | Win | 108 | 1 h 18 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Baltimore starter, Gausman recorded his second straight win on Tuesday after scattering six hits over as many scoreless innings in an 8-1 triumph versus Washington. The 25-year-old has pitched well in three outings this season against New York, but only has an 0-1 mark to show for it. Gausman yielded just three hits over eight shutout innings of a no-decision on May 5 and one run in six frames to receive the same fate one month later before taking the loss despite permitting two runs in 6 2/3 innings of a 2-1 loss on July 18. While NY starter, Sabathia's 2-7 mark with a 5.32 ERA at Yankee Stadium this season leaves plenty to be desired. |
08-27-16 | Rams +5 v. Broncos | Top | 9-17 | Loss | -106 | 120 h 49 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NFLX Play of the Day Los Angeles is coming off winning back-to-back home games during this preseason. One might think these teams are primed for a letdown. However, one of my favorite football analysts, Lee Corso, would say, “Not so fast, my friend!” That’s because teams in this role are a solid 50-28-2 ATS (3-0 last season) when taking to the road off a pair of home victories in the preseason since 1983. If these same teams go as dogs and they respond huge, going 20-5-1 ATS. |
08-26-16 | Packers +1 v. 49ers | Top | 21-10 | Win | 100 | 98 h 55 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Unit NFLX Play of the Day Green Bay is coming off winning back-to-back home games during this preseason. |

08-26-16 | Bills +3 v. Redskins | 16-21 | Loss | -115 | 94 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lots to like in this Week Three matchup, starting with the Bills’ 3-0 SUATS initial road game record the past three preseasons. On the other side of the coin, Washington has struggled in preseason games when favored versus AFC East opponents (6-10 ATS). In addition, a rare third straight home game is likely to result in too much home cookin’ for the Skins. The fact that Buffolo took it on the chin in a 10-point defeat as road favorite during the regular season last year – a loss that denied them a winning season – puts it all in a clearer perspective. And with that, we dare you to be a square tonight. |
08-26-16 | Patriots +3.5 v. Panthers | Top | 19-17 | Win | 100 | 73 h 52 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NFLX Game of the Week Bill Belichick to go full bore tonight in his quest to find the lineup he’ll need to open the season without QB Tom Brady. New England brings a 4-0 SUATS mark this year into preseason skirmishes against NFC South competition. And thanks to the schedule maker, Bill Belichick’s team owns a distinct 2-day rest advantage over the Panthers this evening. Given Carolina’s struggles in this series (1-6 SU and 0-6-1 ATS in preseason contests), and Bilichick's 5-0 SUATS log on Fridays in exhibition games the last four years, I cement my contentions with THE CLINCHER: Carolina is 0-8 ATS in preseason home openers versus AFC opponents. |
08-22-16 | Braves +118 v. Diamondbacks | 8-9 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 47 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Atlanta starter, Foltynewicz has made great strides while working through an up-and-down summer, winning four of his past six decisions. He took a no-decision Wednesday against Minnesota, striking out seven while allowing two runs on five hits. He gave up two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts in a seven-inning effort May 8 against the Diamondbacks without getting a decision. While Arizona starter, Godley has bounced between the bullpen and rotation since being recalled in mid-June, but a 5 1/3-inning relief stint Aug. 12 at Boston led to a start Wednesday against the New York Mets. He made five starts from July 5-Aug. 3 but struggled, posting a 6.18 ERA while giving up 36 hits in 27 2/3 innings. |
08-22-16 | Rockies -114 v. Brewers | 2-4 | Loss | -114 | 9 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Bettis recorded six quality starts in a seven-game stretch before Mother Nature intervened on Tuesday, limiting the 27-year-old to just three innings against Washington. Bettis owns a 4-0 mark in his last eight trips to the mound, yielding three runs or fewer in seven of those outings. He handcuffed Milwaukee in his lone career encounter, permitting a solo homer for his lone damage over 6 1/3 innings to pick up the win last year. |
08-21-16 | Astros v. Orioles +108 | 5-3 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 9 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Houston starter Keuchel fell to 1-3 in his last four starts as he followed up a three-hit shutout versus Texas on Aug. 5 with a clunker against St. Louis on Tuesday. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner allowed six runs on as many hits in five innings of an 8-5 setback to the Cardinals. The road hasn't been kind to Keuchel, who is 4-7 with a 5.74 ERA and 1.51 WHIP away from Minute Maid Park this season. While Baltimore starter, Gallardo owns an impressive 15-4 mark in 21 career starts against Houston, highlighted by 115 strikeouts in 133 innings. |
08-21-16 | Yankees v. Angels +121 | 0-2 | Win | 121 | 5 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units NYY starter, Green has not started on the road since July 8, when he was battered for seven runs and five hits — four homers — in 4 1/3 frames at Cleveland. Green, who never has faced the Angels, is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in four games (three starts) away from home this year. |
08-21-16 | Nationals v. Braves +166 | 6-7 | Win | 166 | 3 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Washington starter, Gonzalez has struggled to a 4-8 record and 4.20 ERA in 14 starts against the Braves. While Atlanta starter, De La Cruz has pitched to a 2.79 ERA in four starts since transitioning back into the rotation, but the Braves have managed a total of just seven runs in those four games. The 27-year-old Dominican pitched well enough to win last time out, holding Minnesota to one run and four hits over 5 2/3 innings, but took the loss in a 4-2 defeat. De La Cruz has pitched much better at home, where he has a 2.00 ERA in five games (three starts). |
08-20-16 | Saints +3 v. Texans | 9-16 | Loss | -120 | 27 h 51 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units I am working a pretty simple angle on this one, specifically back any team looking to avenge both a regular season and a preseason loss to today’s preseason opponent. This Texan team that leveled the Saints on both such occasions last season. A 14-point loss in New Orleans paved the way to a winless preseason last year, while an 18-point hammer-job in Houston denied the Crescent City boys a winning season in 2015. The Saints’ 6-1 ATS all-time record in their last seven away preseason games at AFC South sites fits tonight's game next to the host team’s 2-5 SUATS mark in this series. |
08-20-16 | Giants v. Bills -2.5 | 0-21 | Win | 100 | 23 h 56 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Manning will likely see his first action of the pre-season against what is normally an overaggressive Ryan defense in August. Protecting the franchise QB against over-aggressive rough-and-tumble opposing defense on the road is why the Colts sat Andrew Luck at Buffalo in Week 1. Very, very predictably, the Giants’ first-string defense put a strong pass rush on Miami’s first-string offense last week. But Miami has straight, drop-back quarterbacks. The Bills’ Tyrod Taylor and E.J. Manuel can move around and mess up that pass rush. The Bills used a pass-heavy, 28-42 Run-Pass split in the pre-season opener, something they wouldn’t do in a regular season game unless they trailed by two scores. Meanwhile, the Giants’ back-up offensive line was lousy in pass protection vs. the Dolphins and figures to be worse here against a 3-4 front that will blitz from anywhere |
08-19-16 | Mets +160 v. Giants | 1-8 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units NY starter, Matz was superb in his last outing as he pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings while beating San Diego - with the lone hit he allowed delivered by the final batter he faced. He went winless in his previous three starts despite striking out 20 and walking just three in 18 frames. Matz was victorious in his lone career start against San Francisco, allowing seven hits and three walks in six scoreless innings on April 29. While San Francisco starter, Cueto is 0-2 with a 4.84 ERA in six outings since starting for the NL in the All-Star Game. |
08-19-16 | A's -108 v. White Sox | 9-0 | Win | 100 | 5 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units James Shields is close to matching his career-worst total for losses in a season and attempts to sidestep that dubious feat when the Chicago White Sox open a three-game series against the visiting Oakland Athletics today. Shields lost 15 games for Tampa Bay in 2010 and is just one defeat shy of matching that amount with one-fourth of the season still remaining. Shields compiled seven of his 14 defeats when he was with San Diego but is 3-7 with a horrendous 7.34 ERA in 13 starts for the White Sox. |
08-18-16 | Vikings +3.5 v. Seahawks | Top | 18-11 | Win | 100 | 73 h 24 m | Show |
Rating: 4 Unit NFLX Game of the Week Pete Carroll has been been nothing special in home openers against NFC opposition, where they are 1-3 SUATS in his career. Worse, Carroll remains winless in preseason contests against Minnesota (0-3 SUATS). Another clincher, though, is the Vikings’ DOUBLE REVENGE aspect they take into this affair as Seattle not only handed them their worst loss of the season last year in a 38-7 win at Minnesota the first week in December but also ended their campaign with a 10-9 win in the Twin Cities in the opening round of the playoffs as well. With revenge the Vikes enter with a sterling 8-2 SU and 7-2-1 ATS mark in Game Two’s of the preseason. The Vikings are also 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS in preseason play under head coach Mike Zimmer, including a pristine 3-0 SUATS with revenge. |
08-15-16 | Mets +104 v. Diamondbacks | 6-10 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Colon's 500th career game (491st start) will be his second in six days against the Diamondbacks, whom he held to a run in seven strong innings in a no-decision on Wednesday. That marked the third time in four starts that the 43-year-old has lasted beyond six innings while allowing exactly one run. Arizona starter, Ray owns a 5.40 ERA at home and gave up six runs (five earned) in six innings of a loss against Washington in his previous outing at Chase Field. |
08-15-16 | Red Sox -110 v. Indians | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 2 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Cleveland starter, Tomlin is trying to bounce back from two straight terrible starts and was ripped for a total of 14 runs and 17 hits in 8 2/3 innings at New York and Washington. The 31-year-old Texan yielded a home run in each of those two losses and is tied for the major-league lead with 27 homers allowed. Tomlin has struggled in his career against Boston, going 2-2 with a 5.94 ERA in six career games – five starts. While Boston starter, Pomeranz is coming off a solid outing. The Ole Miss product allowed one run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings against the New York Yankees on Wednesday but did not factor in the decision. |
08-14-16 | Texans +3 v. 49ers | 24-13 | Win | 107 | 53 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Houston Texans are opening this season as the defending AFC South champions, but they will also be looking to make amends for a Wild Card Game horror show that they would sooner forget. They were shelled by the Kansas City Chiefs in that one, and much of the blame was pointed in the direction of the QB position, which has been a problem for the Texans for a few years now. That may explain why they spent a small fortune in acquiring Brock Osweiler from the Denver Broncos. We are going to have to wait a little longer to see what sort of impact he can make, but top to bottom, this looks like a very good team. It's almost impossible to pick out mismatches in preseason, but this seems to strike me as one. The Texans have only played in San Francisco twice in their team history, and ended up losing both times. Those were games against very different 49ers teams. I think Houston easily covers as a 3-point dog. |
08-14-16 | Tigers +105 v. Rangers | 7-0 | Win | 105 | 3 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Detroit starter, Fulmer suffered his first loss since June 17 on Monday despite allowing just two runs in seven innings at Seattle. He has let up three earned runs or fewer in 15 of his 18 starts, including three in a row. The former first-round pick of the New York Mets in the 2011 draft is 7-3 with a 2.85 ERA in 13 road outings. Texas starter, Griffin was knocked around for five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 frames at Colorado on Tuesday, which was the 28-year-old's 10th straight start in which he failed to complete six innings. |
08-13-16 | Cowboys v. Rams -4.5 | 24-28 | Loss | -115 | 47 h 14 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The distinction of being the absolute worst head coach to have bet on in NFL pre-season action – among head coaches currently employed as such -- belongs to Jason Garrett of the Cowboys. Under his leadership, Dallas is 6-14 ATS in pre-season action. With #1 QB Tony Romo coming off an injury season with surgery, and back-up QB Kellen Moore having gone down with a season-ending ankle injury already, Dallas’ negative trend in these August games would seem to have a fine chance to continue |
08-13-16 | Seahawks +3 v. Chiefs | 17-16 | Win | 100 | 44 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Seatle coach, Pete Carroll, comes in at 27-13-1 ATS in his NFL career during the preseason. In addition, Carroll is 12-6 SU and 14-4 ATS versus AFC West division teams. On the flip side, Carroll’s counterpart, Kansas City head coach Andy Reid, is a slow starter going 4-10-3 ATS in preseason openers. THE CLINCHER: Seattle is 22-4 ATS in preseason games versus AFC West opponents. |
08-12-16 | Orioles -119 v. Giants | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 11 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The San Francisco Giants are a miserable 8-16 since the All-Star break but still manage to hold possession of the National League West lead entering today's opener of a three-game series against the visiting Baltimore Orioles. The Giants hold a one-game edge over the Los Angeles Dodgers and are hoping to right themselves with a favorable schedule that has 15 of their next 18 games at home. San Francisco has tallied two or fewer runs in 12 of their games since the break. Baltimore starter, Bundy has won his past two outings, giving up just two runs and five hits across 13 innings. The 23-year-old, who was the fourth overall pick of the 2011 draft, has struck out 29 and walked three over his last four starts after being a reliever most of the season. |
08-12-16 | Royals +109 v. Twins | 7-3 | Win | 109 | 10 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Royals have won four of their last five contests to move within four games of .500 but are a distant 6 1/2 behind Boston for the American League's second wild card. Cheslor Cuthbert has enjoyed a solid emergence and ranks second among AL rookies with 24 multi-hit performances and a .303 average. The Twins allowed 35 hits on Thursday and were outscored 25-9 while losing a doubleheader to Houston. Brian Dozier recorded two doubles on Thursday and has six homers, five doubles and 14 RBIs over his last 12 games. |
08-12-16 | Rays -110 v. Yankees | 3-6 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Sabathia has registered just one quality start in his last nine outings - going 1-5 in that stretch - and is 1-6 with a 4.82 ERA in nine home starts in 2016. The 36-year-old gave up three runs over 4 2/3 frames of a no-decision against Tampa Bay on April 22 and is 13-14 with a 3.77 ERA in 39 starts versus the Rays. Evan Longoria (26-for-67, six homers, 14 RBIs) and Logan Forsythe (8-for-18, two homers) give Sabathia trouble. |
08-12-16 | Dolphins v. Giants -2.5 | 27-10 | Loss | -106 | 23 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Miami struggled on both sides of the ball last year ranking 26th in total offense and 25th in total defense. Starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill returns for his fifth season with the team. He has been a reliable quarterback starting in all games in his four seasons in the NFL. The Dolphins have an experience backup in Matt Moore entering his ninth season. He has been with the Dolphins since the 2011 campaign. In Moore’s NFL career he has started a total of 24 games. He has thrown just 30 passes the past four years with Miami. Zac Dysert a MAC conference product out of Miami Ohio has spent four years in the NFL as a backup and has never played a regular season game. Brandon Doughty is a rookie out of Western Kentucky who could see some playing time. This will be the first game for head coach Ben McAdoo who was the team’s offensive coordinator the past few seasons. He inherits the 32nd and last rated defense in the NFL last season. Eli Manning returns under center for the Giants and will see a series or two. Ryan Nassib is the backup who enters his fourth year with the team. Logan Thomas is in camp for New York. Thomas has spent three years in the NFL as a backup. Expect the Giants to come out with more intensity in an effort to impress their new coach. |
08-11-16 | Broncos v. Bears | 22-0 | Loss | -110 | 23 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Last year the Broncos wer 3-1 in the pre-season (but with the motivation of opening with Seattle, who’d beaten them a few times in a row, including the Super Bowl, then the team that fired Kubiak, Houston, for a 2-0 SU and ATS start). They also had two quarterbacks who’d been with the team for a few years. Now they have two new guys at the #1 and #2 spots – one of them a rookie -- learning Kubiak’s offensive system as well as getting familiar with their new teammates. Teams head-coached by Mr. Fox, now of Chicago – including this Denver franchise, of course – are 10-4 SU in Week 1 pre-season action, including a year ago, when the Bears came out in their first game under Fox’s direction and waxed Miami 27-10 at Soldier Field, scoring 24 of their 27 points in the second half with Jimmy Clausen quarterbacking. The Bears’ defense got 3 INTs against Miami’s back-up quarterbacks. |
08-11-16 | Panthers v. Ravens -1.5 | 19-22 | Win | 100 | 22 h 15 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Baltimore rookies reported a week earlier than the Carolina rookies, and coach John Harbaugh has led his Ravens to victory in seven of his eight Week 1 pre-season games. The Ravens are off a disappointing season; the Panthers are off a Super Bowl appearance, after which, in May, they signed head coach Ron Rivera and all his assistants to contract extensions. No real urgency for Carolina to perform for the scoreboard here. The Panthers’ highly publicized cornerback openings will be fought for by rookies. If the Ravens need to work on anything, it’s their passing game after all of last season’s injury interruptions and uncertainty in the transition to then-first season offensive coordinator Marc Trestman. |
08-10-16 | Braves +130 v. Brewers | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While the Atlanta Braves' playoff aspirations have long been deflated, Erick Aybar has provided a breath of fresh air for the cellar-dwelling club. Aybar carries a 14-game hitting streak into Wednesday's third contest of a four-game series with the host Milwaukee Brewers. Aybar collected two singles in Tuesday's 2-1 victory for Atlanta, which has won four in a row and six of seven overall. Unfortunately for Milwaukee, the club's primary challenge is fending off Cincinnati in the race for the basement of the National League Central. |
08-10-16 | Rockies +175 v. Rangers | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Colorado starter, De La Rosa had to settle for a no-decision despite limiting Miami to one run on four hits over six innings last time out. It was the eighth quality start in nine outings for the 35-year-old, who has not allowed a home run in his last five turns and has yielded four earned runs over his last three starts. De La Rosa is 2-0 in three starts versus Texas, holding Beltre, Elvis Andrus and Carlos Beltran to a collective 1-for-20. While Texas starter, Perez is coming off another rocky outing, surrendering five runs over seven innings to take the loss at Houston and fall to 0-4 with an unsightly 7.07 ERA in his last six starts. |
08-10-16 | Rays +177 v. Blue Jays | 0-7 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Tampa Bay starter, Snell has yielded just five earned runs on 17 hits en route to a 2-0 mark in his last four outings (23 1/3 innings). Taken a step further, the 23-year-old has allowed two or fewer runs in five straight outings and in eight of his 10 career starts overall. Snell has yet to face Toronto in his young career, but has shown a great deal of comfort while pitching on the road - posting a 1.85 ERA and 1.07 WHIP while limiting the opposition to a .198 batting average. |
08-08-16 | Tigers +111 v. Mariners | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 12 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Detroit has won each of the last seven games Fulmer has started, a streak that began when he allowed a run and three hits in 4 1/3 innings against Seattle on June 22. The 23-year-old has worked at least six frames in five of his six turns since then, including a solid 6 2/3 innings in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Fulmer is 7-2 with a 2.88 ERA in 12 starts away from home. |
08-08-16 | Rays +133 v. Blue Jays | 5-7 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 29 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Tampa Bay starter, Odorizzi has been one of the league’s best pitchers since the All-Star break, going 3-0 with two runs allowed over 26 2/3 total innings with 23 strikeouts and three walks. The 26-year-old boasts 121 strikeouts overall with 37 bases on balls across 131 1/3 frames. Josh Donaldson is 3-for-14 – with all three hits leaving the park – against Odorizzi, who is 1-0 with a 2.04 ERA in three starts versus Toronto this season. Toronto starter, Dickey has struggled at home all season, going 2-8 with a 5.40 ERA in 12 games at Rogers Centre. Evan Longoria is 14-for-49 with two homers and eight RBIs versus Dickey, who is 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA in two games against Tampa Bay in 2016. |
08-07-16 | Phillies -102 v. Padres | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Phillies have won three of their last five games while starter, Eickhoff is hoping to build on an encouraging outing last Sunday when he tossed five innings of scoreless, two-hit ball against Atlanta before leaving because of a rain delay. The 26-year-old shut out the Padres over seven innings and struck out nine with no walks in a 2-1 victory in Philadelphia on April 13. |
08-07-16 | Rangers -115 v. Astros | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 24 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Texas Rangers made a series of moves at the trade deadline, in part to give themselves a better chance of holding off the Houston Astros in the American League West, and so far, those moves are paying off. The Rangers will try to ride the hot bats of Carlos Beltran and Jonathan Lucroy to a series win when they visit the Astros for the rubber match of their three-game set. The victory yesterday increased the Rangers’ lead over Houston in the AL West to 6 1/2 games and pushed them back to 30-30 on the road with three contests left on their trip. The Astros have lost nine of their last 12 games to turn a tight race atop the division into a comfortable lead for Texas. |
08-07-16 | Giants v. Nationals +128 | 0-1 | Win | 128 | 2 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Washington starter, Roark won his second straight outing with another quality start at Arizona on Tuesday, giving up three runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. 08-01-16 | Brewers -113 v. Padres | 3-7 | Loss | -113 | 11 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Lucroy turned down a trade to the Indians on Sunday morning, but Texas reportedly also has shown very strong interest in acquiring the 30-year-old before this afternoon's non-waiver trade deadline. The veteran backstop received a standing ovation from the Milwaukee crowd prior to flying out in his only at-bat in Sunday's 4-2 victory over Pittsburgh, but the Brewers capped their 7-3 homestand behind the red-hot bat of Hernan Perez, who is hitting .370 since the All-Star break. The Padres made their plans for the future well ahead of the deadline, having dealt away eight players in the last two months - including outfielders Matt Kemp and Melvin Upton. San Diego opened its nine-game homestand by dropping two of three to Cincinnati and has lost nine of 13 since opening the second half with a sweep of National League West-leading San Francisco. |

Rating: 2 Units The Detroit Tigers and the Houston Astros both plan on being in the postseason this fall, and they are getting a look at how they stand against each other. The Tigers have the upper hand so far and will go for a sweep of the three-game series, along with their sixth straight victory overall, when they host the Astros today. Detroit is the hottest team in the American League at the moment with three one-run wins in the last five contests, including a 3-2, walk-off win on Saturday. The Astros were plenty hot themselves before cooling off with losses in four of the last five games and three of their last four series. Houston is just 23-27 on the road. |
07-30-16 | Royals +110 v. Rangers | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 57 m | Show

He allowed 19 earned runs during three straight losses before receiving a no-decision against Oakland in his last turn, giving up five runs - three earned - and nine hits in six innings. |||||||
07-30-16 | Cardinals -110 v. Marlins | 0-11 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units St. Louis starter, Garcia will be making his first career start on three days' rest, having thrown only 77 pitches over five innings in a loss to the New York Mets on Tuesday. Aside from the low pitch count, Garcia's success against the Marlins could be a factor in the decision -- he is 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA in five starts versus Miami. While Miami starter, Rea projects as more of a depth move for Miami, given that he has permitted at least three runs in 10 of his last 12 starts |

The Giants have seen their National League West lead decrease to 2 1/2 games over the Los Angeles Dodgers because of their recent swoon. Despite yesterday's defeat, Cincinnati is 7-4 over its last 11 contests and has scored 52 runs in the past eight games. While Cincinnati starter Straily is 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two career starts against the Giants. |
07-27-16 | Tigers +108 v. Red Sox | 4-3 | Win | 108 | 2 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Fulmer had a string of 10 straight starts allowing two or fewer runs come to an end at the Chicago White Sox on Friday, when he was reached for five runs – four earned – in five innings without factoring in the decision. The 23-year-old went a season-high eight innings against Kansas City in his previous turn but was held out of the decision then as well. Fulmer is seeing Boston for the first time and is 7-2 with a 2.80 ERA in 11 road starts. |
07-27-16 | Nationals +105 v. Indians | 4-1 | Win | 105 | 1 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Stephen Strasburg stumbled out of the blocks and suffered his first defeat since September in his last trip to the mound. With six days to stew on the result, the 28-year-old looks to rid the sour taste from his mouth and extend his perfect road record this afternoon as the Washington Nationals vie for a split of their abbreviated two-game interleague series versus the Cleveland Indians. While Strasburg is 6-0 on the road, Washington isn't shabby either with a 27-22 mark away from the nation's capital and a stellar 9-4 mark in interleague play. Wilson Ramos continued his hot hand with a solo homer. |
