04-15-18 | A's v. Mariners +105 | 2-1 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 20 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hernandez rebounded from a rough turn at San Francisco in his previous outing, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a victory at Kansas City on Tuesday. The 32-year-old Venezuelan has yet to last six frames in three outings this season and recorded only eight strikeouts over 15 frames. Hernandez has recorded 25 victories - his highest total versus any team - against only nine losses with three complete games and a 2.60 ERA in 46 career starts versus the Athletics. |
04-15-18 | Cardinals -162 v. Reds | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 3 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Martinez has 19 strikeouts and just 14 hits allowed in 18 2/3 innings through his first three starts, but he's issued 10 walks in that span. The bulk of those came in a rocky season debut, after which the 26-year-old rebounded by allowing one run in 14 1/3 innings over his last two outings. Martinez is 6-3 with a 3.84 ERA in 19 career games (eight starts) against Cincinnati, and Reds slugger Joey Votto is just 3-for-19 against him, although Martinez has walked Votto eight times. Cincinnati starter, Bailey has allowed a run in six innings in two of his first three starts but his team is 0-3 in his outings. The veteran from Texas struck out seven and yielded two hits in his six innings of work at Philadelphia on Tuesday, getting through a start without allowing a walk for the first time in 2018. Matt Carpenter is 18-for-33 and Yadier Molina is 15-for-39 against the 31-year-old Bailey, who is 6-13 with a 5.86 ERA in 23 career starts against the Cardinals. |
04-15-18 | Rockies v. Nationals -188 | 6-5 | Loss | -188 | 2 h 50 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Strasburg was outstanding in his last start on Tuesday against Atlanta, firing eight scoreless innings while allowing three hits and two walks and striking out eight. Entering Saturday, the 29-year-old ranked fifth in the National League with 21 strikeouts and has posted a 1.033 WHIP with five walks and 16 hits surrendered in 20 1/3 innings. Strasburg is 4-4 lifetime against the Rockies with a 3.97 ERA in eight starts, but has not faced Colorado since giving up nine runs in a 2016 start in Denver. |
04-15-18 | Brewers v. Mets -190 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 34 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Chacin has as many walks as strikeouts (seven) through his first three starts and has failed to make it through five innings in two of them. He made his second consecutive start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday and lasted only 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision, allowing three runs on five hits. Chacin is 2-5 with a 6.10 ERA against the Mets and has been tormented by first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who is 8-for-22 against him. New York starter, Syndergaard has not been the dominant force Mets fans expect even though he did strike out 10 batters in an Opening Day win over St. Louis, when he allowed four runs on six hits. He threw 92 pitches in four innings versus Philadelphia in his second start and worked six innings of two-run ball for the win at Miami last time out. Syndergaard has won both starts versus the Brewers, striking out 16 in 13 innings. |
04-15-18 | Pirates -145 v. Marlins | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units It took Nova three starts to crack the win column after he went seven innings and permitted three runs on seven hits while striking out six to beat the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The 31-year-old Dominican had a solid outing in his season debut with five innings of two-run ball at Detroit, but was tagged for five runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to Minnesota. Nova is 2-0 against Miami and has not allowed a run in 15 innings. Miami starter, Urena has run into early trouble in two of his first three starts - all at home - and lost both of them, giving up three first-inning runs against the Cubs in his season debut and falling into a 3-0 hole last time out versus the New York Mets. He had to settle for a no-decision against Boston on April 3 despite seven stellar innings of one-run ball. Gregory Polanco is 3-for-6 off Urena, who is 1-1 with a 7.31 ERA versus Pittsburgh. |
04-14-18 | Sharks v. Ducks -126 | 3-2 | Loss | -126 | 9 h 7 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf isn't willing to overreact to just one loss, even if it was a shutout and marked just the third setback in the team's last 13 games overall (10-2-1) and first in its last eight home games. Getzlaf, knows a thing or two about playoff action as he's appeared in 122 playoff games. The 32-year-old Getzlaf had a team-leading six assists and eight points in the season series versus San Jose. Anaheim is 36-15 in their last 51 games following a loss of 3 or more goals. |
04-14-18 | Pelicans v. Blazers -5 | 97-95 | Loss | -108 | 9 h 12 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Portland features its own ego-free superstar in point guard Damian Lillard, who averaged 26.9 points during the third All-Star season of his standout career. The Trail Blazers are the third seed in the West, their best positioning since also being the No. 3 seed in 2000, when they reached the Western Conference finals before losing a seven-game series to the Los Angeles Lakers. Having home court advantage is big for a Portland team that won 21 of its last 24 home contests and is supremely confident inside the Moda Center. The Trail Blazers are hoping center Jusuf Nurkic will be up to the task of slowing Davis while also building on his career-best averages of 14.3 points and nine rebounds to go along with a career-high 27 double-doubles. Shooting guard CJ McCollum (21.4) is a strong scoring complement to Lillard |
04-14-18 | Diamondbacks +167 v. Dodgers | 9-1 | Win | 167 | 8 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Walker received a no-decision last Sunday despite holding St. Louis to one run on three hits over six innings. Yasmani Grandal is 5-for-10 with a home run against Walker, who is 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA in five career starts against the Dodgers. LA starter, Hill, after tossing six shutout innings against San Francisco in his season debut, allowed three earned runs over four innings in last Saturday’s rematch against the Giants. The 38-year-old native of Massachusetts has posted a 1-5 record with a 4.78 ERA in nine career starts against the Diamondbacks. |
04-14-18 | Heat v. 76ers -6 | 103-130 | Win | 100 | 7 h 46 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Philadelphia 76ers enter the postseason on a roll but will be without All-Star center Joel Embiid when they host the Miami Heat in Saturday's opening game of the Eastern Conference first-round series. Embiid missed the final eight games of the regular season with an orbital fracture but his absence didn't stop the 76ers from stretching their winning streak to a franchise-record 16 straight games. Embiid will likely wear a mask when he returns and his responses indicate that a Game 2 return is possible. The third-seeded 76ers are a feel-good story after losing more than 50 games in each of the previous four seasons |
04-14-18 | Pirates -160 v. Marlins | 1-0 | Win | 100 | 6 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Taillon let up just on hit and struck out seven in the shutout of Cincinnati on Sunday at home, using 110 pitches to complete the gem. The 26-year-old allowed one run in five innings to get the win in his only prior career start against the Marlins last April in Miami. Miami starter, Richards failed to complete five innings in his first two career starts, allowing three runs in four frames in a no-decision at Philadelphia on Sunday. Opponents are hitting .389 against the rookie, who has allowed five doubles and a homer in his first 8 1/3 innings. |
04-14-18 | Phillies +118 v. Rays | 9-4 | Win | 118 | 5 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Arrieta allowed three runs (two earned) in the first inning of his Phillies debut last Sunday, but yielded just two baserunners in the next three frames before being removed after 74 pitches. The 32-year-old TCU product, who was signed to a three-year $75 million deal on March 11, struck out five and walked two against Miami. Tampa Bay starter, Archer earned his first victory Monday when he held the Chicago White Sox to four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. The 29-year-old North Carolina native has struck out 22 and walked seven combined in three starts covering 16 2/3 innings while averaging 93 pitches. Carlos Santana is 6-for-16 with two doubles against Archer, who faces Philadelphia for the first time and is 6-8 with a 2.79 ERA in 19 interleague matchups with 132 strikeouts in 116 innings. |
04-12-18 | Sharks v. Ducks -137 | 3-0 | Loss | -137 | 25 h 4 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Ducks earned points in 11 of their final 12 games (10-1-1) to become the ninth team in NHL history to register five consecutive 100-point seasons. They hope to have John Gibson in the crease for the opener as the goaltender began practicing Monday after missing the final three games of the regular season with an upper-body injury. While Anaheim was soaring, San Jose was floundering down the stretch, losing five of its final six contests (1-4-1). The Sharks won three of the four regular-season meetings, including both games in Anaheim, but the Ducks upset San Jose in the lone playoff meeting, winning their 2009 first-round series in six games. |
04-11-18 | Nuggets +3.5 v. Wolves | 106-112 | Loss | -110 | 24 h 38 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Denver peaking at the right time, winning 6 straight after beating Portland on Monday night. One of those victories was a crucial 100-96 triumph over Minnesota when Nugget PG Jamal Murray had 22 pts. and C Nikola Jokic had 16 pts., 14 rebs. and 9 assists. Murray averaged 24 ppg and shot 48% from beyond the arc in the three games against the Timberwolves this season. One game separated five Western Conference teams in the 5-9 slots on Monday. Denver and Minnesota are fighting for one of those final playoff spots in the West, and Tom Thibodeau’s bunch would wrap it up with a win regardless of intervening results. The Timberwolves could possibly get in with a loss in this game provided they beat Memphis Monday, while the Nuggets will be in a must-win situation. Denver has covered 7 straight and 11 of its last 12 games in Minneapolis. |
04-11-18 | Wild v. Jets -169 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 23 h 41 m | Show
Ratings: 2 Units The Winnipeg Jets authored the greatest regular season in franchise history and enter the Stanley Cup playoffs as a legitimate championship contender, hosting the Minnesota Wild for Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals today. The Jets are here thanks to a powerful offense that includes 44-goal scorer Patrik Laine and multiple scoring options, but spring success will rest in large part on the shoulders of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. The 24-year-old began the season as Steve Mason’s backup, but blossomed into a top-tier goaltender while posting a .924 save percentage and 2.36 goals against average en route to 44 wins (most ever by a U.S.-born netminder). Minnesota surged in the second half of the season and posted the third-best record in the Western Conference since Jan. 1 at 25-10-8, but is just 9-6-4 since the beginning of March. The Jets captured the season series 3-1. |
04-10-18 | Warriors v. Jazz -8 | 79-119 | Win | 100 | 1 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Can’t get too carried away with Warriors’ Sunday win over the Suns, as it marked only the 6th spread cover in the last 20 games for the depleted champs, still minus Steph Curry. But that was probably the last semi-dress rehearsal for playoffs, as it’s highly doubtful Steve Kerr risks any of his other starters in this finale that has no meaning for Warriors (locked into the 2 seed in West) but could have seeding implications for rampant Utah, which might still be able to pass Portland for the 3-spot in the playoffs. While the Warriors have been floundering, Jazz surging, with a 28-5 SU mark their last 33, and outscoring foes by almost 20 points per 100 possessions in the last 216 minutes when Donovan Mitchell, Jae Crowder, and underrated Royce O’Neale have been on the floor together. Utah also recently ripped an under strength Golden State by 19 at Oakland on March 25. |
04-08-18 | Mets v. Nationals -156 | 6-5 | Loss | -156 | 8 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Roark allowed one run, four hits and a walk while striking out six in seven innings of an 8-1 victory at Atlanta on Monday. The 31-year-old Illinois native is 27-19 with a 3.38 ERA in 74 games (53 starts) at Nationals Park after going 6-6, 5.04 in 17 games (14 starts) there last season. Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce are a combined 4-for-27 versus Roark, who is 7-2 with a 2.76 ERA in 17 games (11 starts) against New York. New York starter, Harvey is 3-6 with a 3.16 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) versus Washington and 1-3, 3.86 in six turns at Nationals Park. |
04-08-18 | Jazz -8 v. Lakers | 112-97 | Win | 100 | 5 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units These two just played in Salt Lake City this past Tuesday, but Utah has dominated the Lakers the past few seasons, winning 9 of the last 10 meetings and logging a 4-2 spread mark visiting Staples Center to face the Lakers. The Jazz cooled off against the points, but Utah was 25-5 SU in its last 30 prior to that April 3 date with the Lake Show. The Lakers are trying but aren’t healthy and had dropped 7 of their last 9 as injuries to swing man Brandon Ingram and PG Lonzo Ball took a toll. Jazz rookie sensation Donovan Mitchell has scored 24 ppg in March, and Rudy Gobert will be the most dominating defensive presence on the court by a margin. |
04-08-18 | Pistons -6 v. Grizzlies | 117-130 | Loss | -110 | 3 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Detroit was on fire against the points heading into the final two weeks of the season, covering 8 straight and 11 of 13 through April 2. See little point in over thinking things with Memphis side that lost 25 of its last 28 through April 3 and was 3-7 vs. the points in its last 10 at the FedEx Forum prior to hosting Sacramento two nights ago. First meeting was a Grizzly loss (but cover) on Feb. 1, and was the 2nd setback of what would eventually be a 19-game losing streak. That game marked Blake Griffin’s debut with the Pistons, and he delivered with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Griffin is injured now, but the Pistons have been mowing down teams without him, as PG Reggie Jackson begins to round back into form. |
04-08-18 | Braves v. Rockies -137 | 4-0 | Loss | -137 | 3 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Newcomb’s initial start of 2018 displayed some of the same traits of his rookie season - good power pitching (six strikeouts), command issues (four walks) and the inability to wiggle out of jams as he yielded six runs (five earned) and five hits in 4 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old recorded 108 strikeouts in 100 innings but posted a 1.57 WHIP over 19 starts last season. Newcomb made two starts against the Rockies in 2017 but did not receive a decision while striking out 13 and registering a 5.91 ERA over 10 2/3 innings. |
04-08-18 | Blue Jays v. Rangers +109 | 7-4 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 55 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Hamels bounced back from an Opening Day loss to Houston by allowing one run with 11 strikeouts over five innings in Tuesday’s 4-1 win at Oakland. The 34-year-old native of San Diego has seen his velocity drop in his first two starts, causing him to rely more on changeups and sliders. Hamels is 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA in four career starts against Toronto but owns a 17-5 record in 36 career outings at Globe Life Park, including 7-2 in 12 starts last season. |
04-08-18 | Reds v. Pirates -146 | 0-5 | Win | 100 | 1 h 28 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Mahle displayed some of the promise Monday that has made him one of Cincinnati's top prospects, holding the Chicago Cubs to one hit and two walks while striking out seven over six innings to get the victory. The 23-year-old told MLB.com. Mahle went 0-1 despite a 2.45 ERA in two outings versus the Pirates last season, accounting for half of his first four career starts prior to this season. Pittsburgh starter, Taillon won his season debut Monday, yielding only two runs and four hits across 5 1/3 innings while tying a career high with nine strikeouts. |
04-08-18 | Mavs v. 76ers -13 | 97-109 | Loss | -107 | 1 h 35 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Philadelphia had covered 8 straight through April 2, six of those wins coming as a favorite of more than 7 points, while Dallas is just 4-9 this season as a dog of 9½ or more. This game will fall somewhere in that area, and trust Sixer side that’s still jockeying for playoff position over Mav side that’s been openly tanking for months. Philly was just getting its act together when these two met back on Nov. 28, as the Sixers held on for a 112-110 after blowing most of its double-digit 4th-Q lead. Sixer rookie Ben Simmons had a coming-out party in the first meeting, scoring 23 pts. while contributing 7 rebs., 8 assists and 3 steals to key the win. Good news for the Sixers is that G J.J. Redick, who didn’t play in the first meeting, is clicking on all cylinders now |
04-07-18 | Blazers v. Spurs -4.5 | 105-116 | Win | 100 | 8 h 24 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units These two split a pair played in Portland this season, with San Antonio covering both. The Spurs are surging to the finish line, winning 8 of their last 10 games SU and vs. the number, holding foes to 95.5 ppg and out-rebounding the opposition by 6 per game in that stretch. The same can be said for Portland, which was 26-8 SU from mid January through April 2. Blazer G Damian Lillard has cooled off a bit lately, however, perhaps a bit distracted by an addition to the family (a brand new baby boy!). Lillard was shooting less than 40% over the team’s last 10 games at this writing, and the Spurs have won and covered 6 straight against Western playoff foes, including SU wins over Houston, Golden State, red-hot Utah and OKC |
04-07-18 | Bucks -9 v. Knicks | 115-102 | Win | 100 | 18 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New York playing the 2nd night of a back-to-back set, both of which are home games for the Knicks. Given the recent N.Y. struggles at the Garden (dropped 14 of last 17 SU at home through April 2), and the Knicks record against Milwaukee (lost 4 straight overall, 1-5 SU L6 at MSG), have to lean to the visitor. The Bucks are likely safely in the playoffs, but would love to climb out of the 8th position to avoid Toronto, a team that’s beaten them 19 of the last 25 meetings. Milwaukee has covered 7 of its last 8 chances this season as road chalk, and PF Giannis Antetokounmpo (27 ppg, 11 rpg vs. the Knicks) has been backed up by F Khris Middleton (20 ppg on 52% vs. NY) and G Eric Bledsoe (21 ppg, 54% L10 through April 2). |
04-07-18 | Reds v. Pirates -125 | 7-4 | Loss | -125 | 7 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Cincinnati starter, Romano struggled to command his off-speed pitches in Sunday’s loss to Washington, but he managed to eat up some innings. The 24-year-old was able to get through six frames and limit the damage to three runs despite issuing four walks and surrendering two home runs. Romano is 1-2 with a 2.29 ERA in three meetings with the Pirates, and he has lost both of his outings at PNC Park. |
04-07-18 | Devils +150 v. Capitals | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 11 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The New Jersey Devils clinched their first playoff berth since losing in the 2011-12 Stanley Cup finals last time out and look to improve their seeding when they visit the Metropolitan Division champion Washington Capitals on Saturday night. The Devils are 7-0-1 in their last eight games after edging Toronto 2-1 on Thursday and could match up against the Capitals in the first round. The Devils are tied with Columbus in points for third place in the Metro and Philadelphia is one point behind with one game to go while the Capitals have won the division three straight seasons, but their two-year Presidents’ Trophy streak is over. Washington could rest some players for the regular-season finale after dropping a 4-3 decision to Nashville on Thursday as captain Alex Ovechkin scored to move within three of his eighth season with at least 50 goals. |
04-07-18 | Lightning -149 v. Hurricanes | 2-3 | Loss | -149 | 6 h 9 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning have earned at least one point in each of their last eight meetings (7-0-1) with Carolina, including two this season in which they scored a total of 10 goals. The Hurricanes were knocked out of the playoff chase last weekend and have lost four of their last five contests after Thursday’s 4-3 setback at Philadelphia. Sebastian Aho (team-leading 65 points) needs one goal to reach 30 for the first time in his brief career and has scored 16 at home, where the Hurricanes are 18-16-6 - including a 2-5-0 mark in their last seven. |
04-07-18 | Islanders +115 v. Red Wings | 4-3 | Win | 115 | 6 h 4 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While the Islanders have registered consecutive wins following losses in 16 of their previous 19, the reeling Red Wings have dropped 15 of their last 19 as they prepare to miss the playoffs for the second straight season after earning a spot on 25 consecutive occasions. New York, which has scored 14 power-play goals in its last 11 outings, tallied four times during a five-minute man advantage in the third period on Feb. 9. Islanders G Jaroslav Halak, who picked up the win in relief versus the Red Wings earlier this season, is expected to play in his 450th career game on Saturday. |
04-07-18 | Royals v. Indians -215 | 1-0 | Loss | -215 | 4 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Kennedy is winless in his last five starts versus the Indians and was pounded for nine runs over 7 2/3 innings in two starts last season, leaving him with a 2-5 record and 5.90 ERA in 10 starts against them. Cleveland starter, Bauer struck out seven in five frames but needed 101 pitches to get there Sunday, running into trouble in his final inning versus the Seattle Mariners after giving up a pair of RBI doubles en route to a no-decision. The UCLA product did most of his best work during his breakout 2017 campaign at home, going 10-4 with a 3.93 while striking out 116 across 103 frames. Alcides Escobar is 8-for-25 with a homer against Bauer, who went 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in three starts versus Kansas City last year. |
04-07-18 | Cubs v. Brewers +134 | 5-2 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Darvish did not dazzle in his Cubs debut last Saturday, allowing five runs and five hits over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision at Miami. The 31-year-old struggled to command his fastball, walking two batters and hitting two more, and he generated only nine swinging strikes. Darvish faced the Brewers last season and allowed three runs over five innings with seven strikeouts in a loss. Milwaukee starter, Davies is 5-4 with a 3.90 ERA in 10 starts against the Cubs. |
04-07-18 | Diamondbacks -103 v. Cardinals | 3-5 | Loss | -103 | 2 h 42 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Greinke limited Colorado to one run on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over 5 2/3 innings without getting a decision in his 2018 debut last Saturday. The 34-year-old Florida native was 13-1 at home as opposed to 4-6 on the road last year, but won his only start at St. Louis while allowing just one run over seven innings. Marcell Ozuna is 4-for-11 with three homers and Carpenter is 8-for-24 with a pair of blasts against Greinke, who is 12-4 with a 3.17 ERA lifetime versus St. Louis. |
04-07-18 | Orioles +213 v. Yankees | 3-8 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 47 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gray gave up seven hits and three walks in just four innings at Toronto on Sunday but managed to limit the damage to one run. The Orioles got to Gray for five runs in four innings at Yankee Stadium last September, and the one-time All-Star has a 5.30 ERA in six starts in the Bronx. The 28-year-old will be careful with Tim Beckham, who is 6-for-13 with a pair of homers against him. |
04-05-18 | Avalanche +168 v. Sharks | 2-4 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 54 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units While San Jose has a playoff spot wrapped up, Colorado is still battling for a final spot in the Western Conference. The teams are nearly even as San Jose holds a slim +22 to +20 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, however Colorado has had the upper hand in the season series, winning both games. Look for a road win for the Avalanche to keep their playoff hopes alive. |
04-05-18 | Golden Knights v. Oilers +137 | 3-4 | Win | 137 | 6 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Vegas has the Pacific Division wrapped up and the Oliers have been eliminated. Vegas has a +23 to +6 Power Ranking Indicator advantage. However, Edmonton has taken 2 of the 3 meetings between the two teams. If one wants to bet on an underdog, this might be the game. Vegas may want to go into the playoffs on a roll, but Edmonton looks to end a losing skid and has played well against the Golden Knights. |
04-05-18 | Canadiens v. Red Wings -133 | 4-3 | Loss | -133 | 5 h 3 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units This battle is one of the teams with nearly and identical record, however both have been eliminated from the playoffs. Detroit is +12 on the Power Ranking Indicator. This is largely better than Montreal's +2. Detroit is on a three game winning streak while Montreal is on a two game losing streak. |
04-05-18 | Bruins -123 v. Panthers | 2-3 | Loss | -123 | 5 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Boston holds the top spot in the Eastern Conference, while the Panthers are all but eliminated from the Playoffs. The Bruins have a huge +30 to +8 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. While betting on Florida would be really profitable should they win, there is no indication that they have a legitimate shot at an upset. |
04-05-18 | Hurricanes v. Flyers -185 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Flyers look to secure on e of the final playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, While the Hurricanes try to play spoiler. Philadelphia holds a 2-1 lead in the season series and are +15 to +10 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Carolina is nearly .500 on the road, while the Flyers are 20-13-6 at home. While this should be a tightly fought game, the Flyers will come out on top and keep their run towards the playoffs alive. |

04-05-18 | Predators v. Capitals -114 | 4-3 | Loss | -114 | 5 h 36 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Predators hold the top spot in the Western Conference, while the Capitals are first in the Metropolitan Division. Not surprisingly, the teams are deadlocked at +26 on the Power Ranking indicator. Washington is 802 over their last 10 and Nashville is 6-3-1. The Predators won the first game. This game will be tight. Take Washington |

04-03-18 | Rockies -104 v. Padres | 4-8 | Loss | -104 | 8 h 44 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units San Diego will purchase the contract of Ross, who pitched for Texas last year after spending the previous four seasons with the Padres. The 30-year-old Californian, who was signed to a minor-league contract in December, went 3-3 with a 7.71 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) with the Rangers after being limited to one start with San Diego in 2016 due to a shoulder injury. Ross has yet to defeat Colorado in his career, going 0-5 with a 3.44 ERA in nine starts and two relief appearances. |
04-03-18 | Dodgers -156 v. Diamondbacks | 1-6 | Loss | -156 | 7 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Kershaw made his franchise-record eighth consecutive Opening Day start on Thursday and lost for the first time, giving up one run over six innings in a 1-0 loss to San Francisco. After tossing 21 1/3 scoreless frames across six spring starts, the three-time Cy Young Award winner was nearly as impressive in the opener, striking out seven while walking two. Paul Goldschmidt is 10-for-44 with two home runs versus Kershaw, who is 14-8 with a 2.55 ERA in 26 career starts against Arizona. |
04-03-18 | Lakers v. Jazz -11 | 110-117 | Loss | -105 | 6 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Utah Jazz have their sights on a playoff berth as they look to continue their recent domination of the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on today. Utah, which is in sixth place in the Western Conference, will be seeking its sixth straight victory over the Lakers. The Jazz won 25 of their past 30 games and are just one game behind the fourth-place San Antonio Spurs but also just two games clear of the ninth-place Denver Nuggets in the tightly packed race. The Jazz won eight of the past nine meetings, including a 96-81 home victory on Oct. 28. |
04-03-18 | Blazers -8.5 v. Mavs | 109-115 | Loss | -105 | 6 h 41 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Portland Trail Blazers are headed to the playoffs for the fifth straight season and their focus has turned to securing the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. The Trail Blazers hold a three-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs with five to play as they open a four-game road trip with today's contest against the Dallas Mavericks. Portland has been on a scintillating eight-week stretch in which it has compiled a 19-4 record and the club took time to enjoy the clinching after Sunday's 113-98 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. |
04-03-18 | Jets -155 v. Canadiens | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Winnipeg Jets are proving they won't be a pushover when they make their second playoff appearance in seven seasons since relocating from Atlanta. Winnipeg aims for its ninth win in 10 contests - and 50th overall - today as it faces off against the Montreal Canadiens in its final road game of the regular season. Winnipeg occupies second place in the Central Division but still has an outside shot at the crown as it trails first-place Nashville by five points with three games remaining. The Jets improved to 2-1-0 on their four-game trek on Monday as they outlasted Ottawa 6-5 behind a pair of goals from Blake Wheeler. |
04-03-18 | Predators -134 v. Panthers | 1-2 | Loss | -134 | 5 h 50 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units
The Nashville Predators rebounded from a poor performance with a brilliant one and can clinch the Central Division title by completing a sweep of the Sunshine State portion of their road trip when they visit the Florida Panthers on today. The Predators gave up four power-play goals en route to a loss at home to NHL-worst Buffalo on Saturday before going on the road to knock off Tampa Bay 4-1 just 24 hours later. |
04-03-18 | Nets v. 76ers -8.5 | 95-121 | Win | 100 | 23 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Philadelphia 76ers aim to produce their longest winning streak since in 28 years on Tuesday when they put a 10-game run on the line against the visiting Brooklyn Nets. The winning streak matches one from the start of the 2000-01 season and is two shy of the 12-game string that the 1989-90 team put together. Ben Simmons continued to carry the load with Joel Embiid sidelined in the Sixers' 119-102 win at Charlotte on Sunday, finishing with 20 points and 15 assists as Philadelphia stayed within a half-game of Cleveland in the race for third place in the Eastern Conference. |
04-03-18 | White Sox +173 v. Blue Jays | 5-14 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 45 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gonzalez went 1-3 with a 6.45 ERA over the final five games of 2017 with the Texas Rangers after he was traded by the White Sox on Aug. 31 before returning to Chicago on a one-year deal in January. The 33-year-old did not fare much better during exhibition play despite winning both of his decisions, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in four turns. Donaldson is 4-for-12 with three RBIs against Gonzalez, who is 7-4 with a 3.63 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) versus the Blue Jays. |
04-03-18 | Flyers -161 v. Islanders | 4-5 | Loss | -161 | 4 h 26 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units An eight-game point streak (5-0-3) has powered the Philadelphia Flyers to the cusp of a return to the playoffs after missing the NHL's second season in 2016-17. The surging Flyers head into the last road game of their season on Tuesday looking to ascend in the Metropolitan Division by defeating the cellar-dwelling New York Islanders. New York didn't do Philadelphia any favors on Saturday, as it dropped a 4-3 decision to New Jersey for its 16th loss in 19 games (3-12-4). Anthony Beauvillier has scored in three straight contests and five times in his last six to creep within one of the 20-goal plateau. |
04-03-18 | Rays v. Yankees -153 | 4-11 | Win | 100 | 2 h 52 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Archer gave up four runs and six hits with six strikeouts in six innings against the Red Sox on Thursday. He was 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA in four starts against the Yankees last season. New York starter, Montgomery struck out 144 and allowed 140 hits in 155 1/3 innings during a solid rookie campaign in 2017. He was 6-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 15 starts at Yankee Stadium, including six innings of one-run ball against the Rays on Sept. 26 to pick up his ninth and final win of the year. The 25-year-old posted a 3.43 mark in six spring training appearances to help lock down the last spot in the rotation. |

04-02-18 | Michigan +7.5 v. Villanova | Top | 62-79 | Loss | -115 | 4 h 29 m | Show |
Rating: 3 Units Underestimate the Wolverines at your own peril. If any team looks like it could jam the gear box on the well-tuned Villanova engine with its pistons all firing at the same time, it might be Michigan. The reason? Despite all of the hoopla about the Cats’ three-point shooting exploits, defense still travels in March (or, as it will on Monday night, April 2). And lately no team has been defending any better than the Wolverines, allowing foes a measly 0.88 points per possession in the Dance. Though not explosive on the scale of Villanova, the well-constructed passing game of Loyola-Chicago, which had been functioning with the efficiency of a Swiss watch in March, was discombobulated in Saturday’s other semifinal. The Ramblers were limited to season lows in attempts and makes beyond the arc and an astounding 24 of their 27 secondhalf FG attempts were contested. Michigan has also been adept at running foes off of the 3-point line in the Dance; opponents have connected on only 18 triples in the five games combined, which is the same number as ‘Nova’s successful conversions from downtown against the Jayhawks. Though the Wildcats will obviously provide the Wolverines with their toughest test, the corollary might be true as well. John Beilein’s troops have been digging in on the stop end all season, as ball screens are nullified, cutters are covered, and open looks are denied. Moreover, Big Dance foes have been connecting on only 40% of their two-point shots, with the Wolverines especially unrelenting on shots inside the arc. The “team defense” concept has been exemplified by Michigan, all the more impressive as Beilein does not own a true rim protector on the stop end. In conclusion, while I greatly respect Villanova, the Cats are still heavily reliant on the 3-ball, and are not immune to extended cold snaps, or even defeats, as evidenced by a handful of losses this season and a few other close calls. Keep in mind that ‘Nova’s offense was not working as recently as the Elite 8, when Texas Tech might have been able to pull the upset had it been a bit more efficient on the offensive end. The Cats will also not be dealing with the sort of brisk pace that Kansas provided in Saturday’s semi-scrimmage; the Wolverines are adept at controlling tempo, allowing only 62.9 ppg, ranking 8th nationally, which makes us believe the mid 140s “total” might be a bit too high. The respected tactician Beilein is also a 67% play vs. the spread (14-7-2) in past NCAA Tourneys with Michigan. |

04-02-18 | Capitals +150 v. Blues | 4-2 | Win | 150 | 7 h 31 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Capitals clinched their third straight Metropolitan Division title with Sunday's 3-1 victory at Pittsburgh. Washington has won 10 of its last 12 games and reached 100 points (101) for the fourth consecutive season after Philipp Grubauer turned aside 36 shots in the win over the Penguins. Captain Alex Ovechkin leads the Capitals in points (83) and tops the league with 45 goals but has been limited to one tally over his last six games as he seeks his seventh Maurice Richard Trophy and eighth career 50-goal season. |
04-02-18 | Nationals -114 v. Braves | 8-1 | Win | 100 | 6 h 2 m | Show
Ratings: 2 Units Roark’s ERA crept up almost two runs from 2016 to last season, but the metrics indicate bad luck might deserve a good bit of the blame. His walk rate stayed static and his strikeout rate increased, but he did give up a career-high 23 homers in 181 1/3 innings. The 31-year-old is 6-3 with a 2.88 ERA in 19 career games (13 starts) against the Braves |
04-02-18 | Jets -180 v. Senators | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 6 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Winnipeg Jets continue to add to their franchise-record point total and look to keep the momentum going when they visit the struggling Ottawa Senators on Monday. The Jets have won seven of their last eight games to push their total to 106 points, seven behind Central Division leader Nashville with four games remaining - all against teams that won’t be in the playoffs. The Jets have earned points in 26 of their 39 road games (18-13-8) as they prepare to take on the Senators, who are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings after getting within a goal of the Stanley Cup Final last season. Ottawa has scored a total of 14 goals while dropping seven of its last eight contests after suffering a 2-0 loss at Detroit on Saturday and plays its final home game of the season Monday. |
04-02-18 | Red Sox -130 v. Marlins | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 37 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Johnson earned a spot on the Opening Day roster for the first time in his career thanks in part to injuries to left-handers Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) and Drew Pomeranz (forearm). The 27-year-old Florida native made 18 starts in the minors last season and went 3-4 with a 3.10 ERA while holding batters to a batting average of .239. Boston won all five of Johnson's starts in the majors last season, including an interleague game at Philadelphia on June 14. |
04-02-18 | Cardinals v. Brewers -113 | 8-4 | Loss | -113 | 1 h 38 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Mikolas is 2-5 with a 6.44 ERA in 10 career starts in the major leagues - all with Texas in 2014. Milwaukee starter, Davies tied for second in the National League in wins and first in starts (33) in 2017, his second full season in the majors. However, the Arizona native saw his walks increase to 55 from 38 in 2016 and his strikeouts fall to 124 from 135, and he struggled at home by posting a 5.82 ERA in 17 starts. Matt Carpenter is 8-for-18 with two homers and four doubles against Davies, who is 2-0 with a 3.41 ERA in six career starts versus St. Louis. |
04-01-18 | Capitals v. Penguins -110 | 3-1 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Less than 24 hours after setting a franchise record by qualifying for the playoffs for the 12th straight season, the Pittsburgh Penguins attempt to climb within one point of the top spot in the Metropolitan Division when they host the first-place Washington Capitals today. Pittsburgh, which made the postseason 11 consecutive times from 1991-2001, punched its ticket for this year's tournament with Saturday's 5-2 home triumph over Montreal. Phil Kessel and Riley Sheahan each recorded a goal and an assist for the two-time defending Stanley Cup-champion Penguins, who are 29-8-2 at home - including a 6-0-1 mark in their last seven - and have only three games remaining. Kessel is second on the team with a career-high 87 points - eight behind leader Evgeni Malkin, who notched a pair of assists against the Canadiens. |
04-01-18 | Devils -148 v. Canadiens | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 8 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The New Jersey Devils attempt to tighten their hold on a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference when they visit the Montreal Canadiens today. New Jersey completed a 3-0-1 homestand with Saturday's 4-3 triumph over the New York Islanders, which moved it five points ahead of Florida for the second wild card and pulled it within one of Philadelphia for the first spot with four games remaining. Taylor Hall continued his torrid pace Saturday as he scored twice to increase his career-high totals to 36 goals and 88 points while helping the Devils climb within three points of Columbus for third place in the Metropolitan Division. The 26-year-old left wing has collected five tallies and seven assists during his seven-game point streak and is one power-play goal away from matching the career high of 13 he set in 2011-12 with Edmonton. The Canadiens are kicking off a two-game homestand before ending the season with a pair of contests on the road. Montreal dropped a 5-2 decision at Pittsburgh on Saturday, marking its third loss to the Penguins in 17 days. |
04-01-18 | Pirates v. Tigers +102 | 1-0 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 4 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Williams finished spring training with a 5.87 ERA, giving up 10 runs on 18 hits in 15 1/3 innings. Detroit's starter, Fulmer also was slated to make his season debut Saturday, and the 25-year-old enters the campaign looking to prove he is healthy. The 2016 American League Rookie of the Year and an All-Star a season ago, Fulmer underwent elbow surgery that ended his 2017 in September, and had an MRI exam in early March after experiencing elbow soreness, but the tests came back clean. Fulmer, considering the young ace of Detroit’s rebuilding team, struck out 15 while walking two and posting a 2.12 ERA in four spring training starts. |
04-01-18 | Predators +145 v. Lightning | 4-1 | Win | 145 | 7 h 19 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Lightning, who need one point to set the franchise record for a season, trail Atlantic-leading Boston by one while playing one more game, and the Predators won’t be in a good mood after suffering a 7-4 home loss against NHL-worst Buffalo on Saturday. Nashville allowed four power-play goals in the second period and lost for just the third time in regulation over its last 21 games (16-3-2) to see its lead in the Central Division shrink to five points with four contests to go. Second-leading scorer Filip Forsberg (58 points) sat out Saturday’s game for body maintenance and Eeli Tolvanen made his NHL debut, logging 13 minutes, 34 seconds of ice time without recording a shot. The Predators are 6-0-2 in the last eight meetings. |
04-01-18 | Thunder -1 v. Pelicans | 109-104 | Win | 100 | 7 h 2 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Thunder come in hungry after losing four of their last five. OKC will be especially motivated here after falling 126-125 in OT at home to Denver last time out. The Thunder outscored the Nuggets 35-22 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough in the end. Russell Westbrook was a bright spot in the setback with 33 points, 13 assists and nine boards. New Orleans has lost three straight, most recently falling to Houston, Portland and Cleveland. Jrue Holiday led the way in the 107-102 setback to the Cavs with 25 points. For the most part the Thunder have struggled for bettors this year, however note that they’re 4-1 ATS in their last five against good offensive teams which average 105-plus points per contest, while the Pelicans are just 17-20 ATS in front of the home town crowd this season and just 2-5 ATS their last seven when playing with one or less day rest. |
04-01-18 | Nationals -133 v. Reds | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gonzalez is coming off one of the better seasons of his career, reaching double digits in victories for the eighth consecutive year while posting his second-lowest ERA. The 32-year-old won 11 times away from home last season and turned in a dominant performance at Cincinnati on July 14, limiting the Reds to four hits over 8 1/3 scoreless innings. Joey Votto has been a nemesis, going 8-for-21 with three homers. Cincinnati starter, Romano had an up-and-down rookie campaign but showed improvement down the stretch by allowing a combined nine runs during a span of six starts from mid-August to mid-September. Despite pitching half of his games in homer-happy Great American Ball Park, the 24-year-old New York native permitted only nine homers in 16 starts overall. He has never faced Washington, although Matt Adams has a homer in three at-bats off Romano. However, Washington has won 11 of its last 13 meetings against the Reds. |
04-01-18 | Astros -154 v. Rangers | 8-2 | Win | 100 | 4 h 53 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The centerpiece of a five-player deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates in January, Cole is coming off the worst of his five major-league seasons, finishing with career highs in ERA, losses, walks (55) and homers allowed (31). The former overall No. 1 pick of the 2011 draft was sharp in the spring, however, going 3-1 with a 2.14 ERA while fanning 24 over 21 frames. Cole struck out nine over seven scoreless innings to get the win versus the Rangers in his first and only start against them as a rookie in 2013. Texas starter, Minor will draw his first big-league start since 2014 after finding much success in 66 appearances out of the Kansas City Royals' bullpen a season ago, when he compiled six saves and 17 holds while posting a 1.02 WHIP. The 26-year-old Vanderbilt product is coming off a poor showing in exhibition play (1-1, 6.17 ERA) and was tagged for six runs over 5 1/3 innings in his final start of the spring. |
04-01-18 | 76ers -2 v. Hornets | 119-102 | Win | 100 | 14 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Philadelphia cruised to three double-digit wins over Charlotte this season, with Joel Embiid scoring 22 ppg and taking 11 rpg with 2.3 blocks to lead the team. The Hornet defense hasn’t put up much of an obstacle for Philly, which has scored more than 115 ppg and shot 51% in posting 3 win-and-covers. The Sixers, who had won 6 straight prior to facing Denver Monday, are still fighting tooth and nail for the home floor. With the possibility of catching Cleveland for the third seed still on the table, the Sixers are motivated. Charlotte played last night in Washington, and the Hornets are just 3-7-1 vs. the points in their last 11 when unrested, and the Sixers are 6-2 SU L8 on the road prior to stop in Atlanta Friday |
03-31-18 | Sharks v. Golden Knights -123 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 48 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Vegas Golden Knights likely won't catch Nashville for the top spot in the Western Conference, but they can secure the Pacific Division title when they face the San Jose Sharks today in their final home game of the regular season. The expansion Golden Knights will clinch the division crown with a regulation victory as they lead the Sharks by seven points with four games remaining. Vegas, which trails the Predators by six points for first in the West, improved to 2-1-0 on its four-game home stand by edging St. Louis 4-3 in overtime Friday. Jonathan Marchessault, who leads the team with a career-best 75 points, completed his first two-goal performance of the season 22 seconds into the extra session as the Golden Knights improved to 4-1-2 over their last seven contests. San Jose had its nine-game point streak (8-0-1) snapped Thursday as it dropped a 5-3 decision at Nashville to fall to 1-1-1 on its four-game road trip. The Sharks are all but locked into second place in the Pacific as they own a four-point lead over Los Angeles, which has only three games left on its schedule. |
03-31-18 | Kansas +5 v. Villanova | 79-95 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units I firmly feel the surging Jayhawks (12-1 SU last 13) clearly possess the requisite team speed, firepower, three-point marksmen (10 triples pg at 40.3%), passing skills (16.9 apg), transition offense & smart shot selection to trade all the way with the Big East juggernaut, which is facing its most combustible arsenal thus far in the Big Dance after defeating over matched Radford, youthful, erratic Alabama, a defense-oriented “Press Virginia” & Texas Tech. Bill Self—who’s arguably done his best-ever coaching job—is a mastermind in devising an ultra-efficient halfcourt “O,” while the stiffening KU defense permitted a combined 13 of 49 from deep in the semi-finals & finals of the Midwest region. In a wild tourney featuring a plethora of buzzer-beaters, I envision this heavyweight battle to be decided in the final moments in San Antonio. Hey, Jay hawks profitable 12-5 as an underdog since 2014-15. |
03-31-18 | Rockies v. Diamondbacks -143 | 2-1 | Loss | -143 | 8 h 4 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Marquez led all major league rookies with 147 strikeouts last season while his victory total tied teammate Kyle Freeland for most among rookies. The 23-year-old did serve up 25 homers last season but kept the ball in the park better on the road (10 in 16 starts) as opposed to Coors Field (15 in 13 outings). Marquez was 0-3 with a 4.59 ERA in six starts against Arizona last season and has struggled against Paul Goldschmidt (6-for-10 with two homers and four walks) in seven career appearances against the Diamondbacks. Greinke has a 30-14 record in two seasons with Arizona and he topped 200 strikeouts for the fifth time last year when he totaled 215. He certainly liked pitching at home last season as he was a stellar 13-1 with a 2.87 ERA in 18 starts at Chase Field. Greinke is 9-5 with a 3.93 ERA in 25 career appearances (24 starts) against the Rockies and has never served up a homer to Colorado star Nolan Arenado in 47 career at-bats. |
03-31-18 | Wild -116 v. Stars | 1-4 | Loss | -116 | 8 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Minnesota Wild look to extend their point streak to eight games by completing a home-and-home sweep of the reeling Dallas Stars today at American Airlines Center. Minnesota, which owns a 4-0-3 mark in its last seven contests, has positioned itself well for a sixth straight postseason appearance while Dallas' playoff aspirations are fading fast in the midst of a 1-7-2 run. While Minnesota continues to record points, Dallas finds itself spiraling in the wrong direction with just four games remaining on its slate. |
03-31-18 | Raptors v. Celtics +4.5 | 99-110 | Win | 100 | 7 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The home team won and covered first two in series, and this is virtually a must-win game for Boston if it is to have any hope of capturing the Atlantic Division and the home court edge in the East. Toronto has cooled off since winning 18 of 19 SU from Feb. 2 through March 16. The Raptors were 0-6 vs. the number L6 and 2-3 L5, giving up 116 ppg and 50% in the last 5 prior to facing Denver on Tuesday. Raptor leader DeMar DeRozan has been a bit off against the Celtics this season, scoring a sub-par (for him) 19.5 ppg and shooting only 36%. Toronto C Jonas Valanciunas has had foul trouble against Boston bigs Al Horford, Marcus Morris and Aron Baynes, limiting him to just 39 total minutes, 33% and 4 ppg in first pair vs the Celtics |
03-31-18 | White Sox -101 v. Royals | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 7 h 12 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Giolito was excellent in seven starts with the White Sox at the end of last season and followed it up with an outstanding spring. He was dominant against the Royals in two meetings last year, going 1-0 and allowing two runs over 13 1/3 innings. Kennedy is looking to bounce back from his worst full season in the majors. The 33-year-old struggled to miss bats last year and gave up a career-high 34 home runs, including six in four starts against the White Sox, continuing his struggles against the club. Kennedy is 2-3 with a 5.04 ERA in nine career meetings with Chicago. |
03-31-18 | Rangers v. Hurricanes -190 | 2-1 | Loss | -190 | 8 h 30 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Carolina Hurricanes seek their fifth victory in six games and attempt to stave off playoff elimination for another day when they host the New York Rangers. The Hurricanes knocked off Metropolitan Division-leading Washington 4-1 on Friday to keep alive their faint postseason chances but will need four victories and a lot of help to accomplish their goal. Sebastian Aho gives Carolina plenty of hope for the future as the speedy forward scored his career-best 28th goal in Friday’s win for his 13th point in 11 contests and team-leading 64th of the season. The Hurricanes are eight points behind New Jersey for the second wild card in the Eastern Conference and have played one more game, while the Rangers have gone 1-4-2 in their last seven contests, getting eliminated from playoff consideration en route to that mark. New York took an early lead on Friday but watched Tampa Bay score five times in the third period to suffer a 7-3 defeat. The Rangers, who finished with a 21-16-4 record at home, play their final four games on the road, where they have struggled to a 12-20-5 mark. |
03-31-18 | Twins -116 v. Orioles | 6-2 | Win | 100 | 7 h 5 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Gibson finished last season strong with wins in each of his last six decisions and posted a 3.76 ERA after the All-Star break. The 30-year-old Missouri product surrendered 16 of his career-high 24 home runs before the break. Gibson went 1-1 in two starts against the Orioles last season. Cashner is one of two new additions to the Baltimore rotation along with Alex Cobb and, like Cobb, he wasn't signed until after the start of spring training and made just two Grapefruit League appearances. The 31-year-old Texan issued 64 walks in 166 2/3 innings for the Texas Rangers while striking out 86. Cashner, who spent the first seven seasons of his career in the National League, lost his lone start to the Twins last season. |
03-31-18 | Loyola-Chicago +5.5 v. Michigan | 57-69 | Loss | -105 | 7 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Meanwhile, after a wild bobsled ride into the Elite 8 with three wins by four points total, Loyola dispatched Big 12 Kansas State with relative ease last Saturday in Atlanta to reach the Final Four. Certainly, after beating ACC Miami and SEC Tennessee at the wire, plus hot Nevada in the Sweet 16, the Ramblers have proven their Missouri Valley membership is no hindrance against the major conference teams. The Ramblers’ lock down defense (62 ppg ranks fifth nationally) and shrewd shot selection (51% FGs & 40% triples) have served it well in March and a current 14-game SU win streak that extends to narrow Jan. 31 loss at Bradley. If Loyola bears more than slight resemblance to past Rick Majerus teams at Utah and (especially) Saint Louis, it's no coincidence, as HC Porter Moser is a Majerus disciple who worked for the "big man" with the Billikens, and whose Ramblers remind more than a bit of the best Majerus teams. Loyola has plenty of balance with five DD scorers, a functional big in rugged 6-9, 260-lb. frosh PF Cameron Krutwig, and plenty of size on the wings to shoot over the Michigan defense on the perimeter. In the end, as in the first three rounds, another close Loyola game can be expected. We think Beilein can manufacture enough offense for Michigan to advance, but it won't be easy. The oddsmakers, however, have made it a bit easier for me by providing enough cushion to justify a Rambler recommendation while I sit back and watch what happens in the final seconds. |

03-31-18 | Indians v. Mariners +106 | 6-5 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 13 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Seattle Mariners look to open the season with two straight victories when they host the Cleveland Indians for the middle contest of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon. Nelson Cruz belted a two-run, first-inning homer off reigning American League Cy Young winner Corey Kluber in a 2-1 victory in the opener Thursday and it should be another low-scoring contest today with two pitchers coming off career-best seasons. Paxton is primed for a big campaign after the oft-injured 29-year-old Canadian put together his best season in 2017 with career highs in wins, starts (24), innings (136) and strikeouts (156). The University of Kentucky product was 7-3 with a 2.45 ERA at home last season as opposed to 5-2 and a 3.66 mark on the road while allowing just nine homers overall. |
03-31-18 | Hornets +5.5 v. Wizards | 93-107 | Loss | -113 | 3 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Washington hasn’t been playing well in March, covering just 2 of its first 11 games this month. Wiz HC Scott Brooks will have to make some defensive adjustments after his team allowed Charlotte to score 128 ppg in winning first 3 over Washington this season. Hornet PG Kemba Walker scored 22 ppg in the series, and C Dwight Howard managed 18 ppg and 11 rpg in just 30 mpg, while 4 other Hornets scored at least 13 ppg. Brooks should strongly consider bringing back PG John Wall from the injured list soon, lest they dip lower in the standings and lose any serious chance of catching Philly and Indy for 4th-place in the East and the first-round home court edge. The Wizards are 8-21-1 vs. the number as home chalk! |
03-31-18 | Nationals -152 v. Reds | 13-7 | Win | 100 | 2 h 19 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Strasburg concluded one of his healthier seasons in dominant fashion, throwing nine scoreless outings while yielding a total of nine earned runs and striking out 104 in his final 14 turns of the season (including postseason). As a result, the former No. 1 overall pick finished third in the NL Cy Young Award voting after logging 28 starts - his most since 2014. Strasburg went 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two outings versus the Reds in 2017, improving to 3-1, 4.40 in eight career starts against Cincinnati. Acquired from the Miami Marlins as part of the Dan Straily trade in January of 2017, Castillo was arguably the team's best pitcher in his 15 turns, fanning at least eight in three of his final four starts to finish with 98 strikeouts over 89 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old Dominican led Cincinnati starters in ERA, WHIP (1.07) and batting average against (.202), but the club backed him with no more than two runs in each of his last five losses. Castillo faced the Nationals twice last season, going 0-1 with a 4.09 ERA. |
03-31-18 | Panthers v. Bruins -170 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 2 h 33 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Marchand has posted three goals and six assists in the last four games to push his team-leading total to 84 points - one short of his career best last season. Marchand’s linemate David Pastrnak scored for the fourth consecutive game Thursday and is two away from matching his career high of 34 goals in 2016-17 while owning a career-best 76 points. Defensemen Zdeno Chara (upper-body) and Charlie McAvoy (knee) are both skating and could return to the lineup soon while forward David Backes (laceration) was back Thursday after missing five games. |
03-30-18 | Bucks v. Lakers -1.5 | 124-122 | Loss | -107 | 6 h 43 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Milwaukee rode Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 33 pts. and 15 boards to a 98-90 win when these two met back on Nov. 11, with the Greek Freak easily counterbalancing the first triple double by L.A. rookie Lonzo Ball. The Lakers have been a tough cookie at home since early January, posting 12-2 SU and 11-3 spread marks in last 14 at home prior to hosting Dallas on Wednesday. L.A. has injury issues, with Fs Brandon Ingram (groin) and Isaiah Thomas a possible scratch due to a recurring hip problem, but rookies Kyle Kuzma and Ball starting to gain consistency. The Bucks haven’t played well on the road against decent teams this season, posting a 9-14 mark as a road dog of 1-6 points |
03-30-18 | Blues +108 v. Golden Knights | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 4 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units NHL Second Star of the Week Jake Allen has turned aside 95 of 100 shots in his last four games and boasts an 8-1-0 mark in his last nine starts. Brayden Schenn has six points in his last six games (one goal, five assists) and set up a goal in each encounter versus Vegas this season. Captain Alex Pietrangelo scored in a 3-2 setback to the Golden Knights on Oct. 21 and has 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in his last nine games overall. St. Louis has allowed an NHL-low 25 goals during its 8-2-1 mark in March. |
03-30-18 | Pelicans v. Cavs -4 | 102-107 | Win | 100 | 3 h 16 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Cleveland had won five straight heading into Tuesday’s visit to Miami, as return of PF Kevin Love has been a positive. LeBron James has averaged 31 pts., 10 rebs. and 10 assists since the all-star break, but Love’s 20 ppg and 10 rpg in his first 4 back tipped the scales in the Cavs’ favor. Cleveland covered three straight as a home favorite after a miserable 6-23 run as home chalk over the first two-thirds of the season. In the first meeting between these two, New Orleans benefited from a triple-double from since-injured C DeMarcus Cousins, while LeBron James was outplayed by Anthony Davis, who had 30 pts. and 14 rebounds. The Pelicans also got 29 pts from PG Jrue Holiday that night. Cavs have some momentum and are battling to hold on to a home court in first round, so would lay price with Cleveland. |
03-30-18 | Astros -178 v. Rangers | 1-5 | Loss | -178 | 3 h 57 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Keuchel recaptured the form last season that allowed him to claim the American League Cy Young Award in 2015, keeping his ERA below 3.00 and WHIP under 1.20 for the third time in four seasons after struggling in 2016. The 30-year-old, who drew the Opening Day nod for the team over each of the previous three years, is 40-24 with a 3.29 ERA in 89 career games (82 starts) prior to the All-Star break. Keuchel mostly had his way with the Rangers last season, going 3-1 with a 2.92 ERA in four turns. |
03-30-18 | 76ers -8 v. Hawks | 101-91 | Win | 100 | 3 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Philly has been devouring these lesser teams down the stretch as it ramps up for the playoffs with 7 straight wins after Monday’s romp past the Nuggets. Hawks mostly non-competitive in dropping 9 of last 11 vs. number into Minnesota on Wednesday, but just in case note that Dennis Schroder (scored 41 in shock win at Utah last week) and emerging 2nd year Taurean Prince (23.6 ppg his last 8 thru March 27) capable on shooting Atlanta into a game, so will draw the line at double digits. It was early in the season when Philly beat Atlanta by 10 at Wells Fargo Center, covering a 7 1/2 point spread in the process. |
03-30-18 | Phillies -103 v. Braves | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 2 h 22 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Pivetta took his lumps last season with 25 homers and 144 hits allowed in 133.0 innings while seeing his WHIP climb to a gaudy 1.51. A postive for the 25-year-old British Columbian came in the form of his 140 strikeouts, with 13 coming as he limited the Braves to a .226 batting average en route to winning all three of his starts versus the club last season. Two of the starts were played in Atlanta, including a six-inning scoreless stint in his penultimate outing of the campaign. |
03-30-18 | Yankees -135 v. Blue Jays | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 2 h 59 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Although he won at least 12 games for the fourth straight season, Tanaka spent too much of 2017 looking over his shoulder as he surrendered 35 home runs. However, he closed the year on a high note, allowing two runs and zero homers over his last four turns, including the postseason. One of those was a 15-strikeout, three-hit masterpiece against the Blue Jays on Sept. 29 after he allowed eight runs in Toronto one week earlier. |
03-30-18 | Hurricanes v. Capitals -177 | 4-1 | Loss | -177 | 2 h 41 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Washington leads the division by five points and is peaking at the right time, completing a home-and-home sweep of the New York Rangers on Wednesday night to improve to 9-1-0 over its last 10 games and secure its fourth straight postseason berth. The Capitals have won five of the past six meetings against the Hurricanes |
03-30-18 | Lightning -151 v. Rangers | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 38 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman registered a goal and an assist in Thursday’s setback while J.T. Miller netted his eighth tally in 14 games since being acquired from the Rangers in a blockbuster deal at the trade deadline. The Lightning are 5-5-1 in the second game of back-to-back sets in 2017-18 after winning their last two and attempt to capture the season series against the Rangers, who will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2009-10. New York has lost five of its last six (1-3-2) after coughing up a lead with 1:05 remaining in the third period and losing 3-2 in overtime at Washington on Wednesday. |
03-29-18 | Pacers -7.5 v. Kings | 106-103 | Loss | -108 | 25 h 60 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units As Sacramento tanks away the rest of its season while giving “developmental time” (nice term for tank) to kids down the stretch, Indiana taking these games seriously as Pacers still have a shot at the 3 seed in the East with a strong finish. The gears have admittedly been grinding a bit on the attack end, as Indy has seen the league’s biggest drop in offensive efficiency (5.7 points per 100 possessions) since the All-Star break, with five different rotation guys (including Victor Oladipo) having shot less than 30 percent from 3-point range. But they made three of their five 3-point attempts in overtime on Sunday vs. the Heat, as they clinched a playoff spot. The latter must seem like pure fantasy these days to Kings fans. |
03-28-18 | Blazers -6.5 v. Grizzlies | 103-108 | Loss | -102 | 4 h 28 m | Show
Rating; 2 Units It seems hard to remember, but Memphis was once good enough this season to win a game at Portland way back on Nov. 7, when David Fizdale was still coaching Griz and regarded fondly in the Bluff City, and Mike Conley (remember him?) scored 20 points. How a few months changes things. Now the only question is how much of a price we want to lay with the Blazers. Memphis entered this week having lost 23 of its past 24 games before a shock win vs. T-wolves, but the low point of the season came last Thursday in a franchise-record 61-point loss to the Hornets. This was the largest margin of defeat for any team since February 1998, and Memphis’ 55-point hole through three quarters was tied for the largest such deficit in the shot clock era. |
03-28-18 | Knicks v. 76ers -12.5 | 101-118 | Win | 100 | 4 h 32 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Philly has won all three previous meetings though failed to cover 9 ½-point spread at MSG on March 15. Joel Embiid played that night and scored 29 points for Sixers, and while he is probably due to take a rest over the final two weeks of the regular season, the schedule breaks kindly this week and he likely plays tonight. Philly now has a 7-game win streak after winning big vs. Denver on Monday, covering the last five of those, while “over” 5-1-1 those 7. The Knicks lead the group of tankers into this week solely because of their shocking road win against the Wizards on Sunday, but otherwise hard to find many takers at moment for New York. |
03-25-18 | Ducks v. Oilers +125 | 5-4 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 5 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Edmonton is seeking its fourth consecutive victory after edging the Kings 3-2 on Saturday in the opener of a three-game homestand. Captain Connor McDavid scored a pair of goals in the triumph, giving him an NHL-best 96 points - one ahead of Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov - as he seeks his second straight Art Ross Trophy. McDavid has been piping hot, registering two goals in each of his last two games and seven points over his last three contests while collecting 15 tallies and as many assists in his last 18 matches. Adam Larsson recorded an assist on McDavid's first goal Saturday, giving him 100 points in his career. The 25-year-old Swedish defenseman, who was selected fourth overall by New Jersey in the 2011 draft, has registered three of his 12 points on the season over his last five contests. |
03-25-18 | Hawks v. Rockets -12 | 99-118 | Win | 100 | 8 h 21 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Houston Rockets set a franchise record for victories in a season by defeating New Orleans on Saturday and can reach the 60-win mark for the first time when they host the Atlanta Hawks today. James Harden bounced back from a rough shooting effort in a victory over Detroit on Thursday to score 28 points and hand out eight assists in the 114-91 triumph against the Pelicans. The Rockets' eighth consecutive win gave them a 4 1/2-game lead over Golden State in the race for first place in the Western Conference with nine contests remaining. Clint Capela dominated inside with 18 points, 16 rebounds and six blocked shots for Houston, which has matched the second-longest streak in franchise history with 15 straight wins at home. The Hawks are 1-3 on their six-game road trip and have lost eight of nine overall after falling 106-94 at Golden State on Friday. |
03-25-18 | Predators v. Jets -124 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 40 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Winnipeg Jets have not totally given up on the top spot in the Central Division, and their final run at the title must start at home today with a victory over the first-place Nashville Predators. The Jets have won four in a row to stay within striking distance of the Predators, reaching 100 points for the first time in franchise history with Friday's 3-2 overtime victory over Anaheim at home. The Jets have won two straight in overtime and are 8-2-1 this month.Nashville had its 15-game point streak halted by Toronto on Thursday and suffered a 4-1 loss at Minnesota two nights later as it kicked off a quick two-game road trip. The Predators were limited to 20 shots by the Wild and received their lone goal from Ryan Johansen in the first period. |
03-25-18 | Celtics -6.5 v. Kings | 104-93 | Win | 100 | 6 h 25 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Boston took no prisoners in first meeting, played back on Nov. 1, when the Celtics were in the midst of a quick start. Star PG Kyrie Irving was integral to the Celt victory with 22 pts., while G Jaylen Brown matched him in points while grabbing 6 boards. Irving is likely still out for Boston, but Brown should be nearly through with the concussion protocol by the time this one is played. The Celtics’ 24-10 spread mark away from home this season impressive, even more so if you consider they are 10-2 the last 12 through March 22. Celtic's HC Brad Stevens will remind his team of its 16-point loss in Sacramento last year. |
03-25-18 | Duke -3 v. Kansas | 81-85 | Loss | -105 | 6 h 1 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units At a short price, favor the Duke side, which owns the more potent, steadier inside-outside attack, featuring Bagley, Carter & Allen. The Blue Devils have a host of rangy Gs to extend their zone and keep the pressure on KU’s lethal marksmen of Graham, Newman & Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk. Coach K’s squad has been a steady money-maker, going 22-11 vs. the spread, including an 11-3 mark as a single-digit chalk. Duke will welcome KU’s fast-paced attack, and the Blue Devils are much better equipped for 2nd chance points, as they out-rebound foes by 9.1 caroms pg (4th nationally). And the Blue Devils have made the extra pass in the Big Dance, dishing out a whopping 44 assists in the first two rounds. In a battle between two tradition-rich programs who rank 2nd & 4th in all-time victories, Duke has won 7 of 9 meetings. |
03-25-18 | Texas Tech v. Villanova -6 | 59-71 | Win | 100 | 3 h 10 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Don’t want to completely dismiss Texas Tech, which has dealt with a lot of diverse weapons and shooters this season (such as Oklahoma’s gunslinger deluxe Trae Young) and might have the defense to slow down Jay Wright’s nation’s-best 87 ppg offense. But there’s so much diversity on the Villanova offense that Chris Beard is going to have to devise a way to keep an eye on various shooters who are all comfy enough to float beyond the arc and who will stretch the Red Raider defense. Although the play making Keenan Evans seemed to be close to 100% last weekend when spearheading Red Raider wins over Stephen F Austin and Florida, neither of those sides has the diversity of Villanova. And while we think Texas Tech is beyond its late-season slump, it’s worth noting that the Red Raiders had not covered a spread in eight straight games before barely surviving that Saturday war vs. the Gators. |
03-25-18 | Cavs -6.5 v. Nets | 121-114 | Win | 100 | 1 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Cleveland Cavaliers are starting to put the pieces together as they get set for another playoff run and ran their winning streak to four in a row by trouncing the Phoenix Suns 120-95 on Friday. The Cavaliers will try to keep it rolling on the road when they open a three-game trip by visiting the Brooklyn Nets today. Cleveland, which will play five of its remaining 10 games against teams with losing records, is getting healthy as well and welcomed back Rodney Hood (back), Tristan Thompson (ankle) and Larry Nance Jr. (hamstring) in Friday's win and is just waiting on Kyle Korver (personal) and Cedi Osman (hip) to get back. |
03-24-18 | Florida State v. Michigan -4 | 54-58 | Push | 0 | 9 h 17 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Even with FSU springing a minor upset over Gonzaga, I will still lay short price with streaking Michigan, riding a 12-game win skein. The Wolverines are more tenacious on the stop end, And the most unique weapon on the court is 6-11 Moritz Wagner, who can attack the rim, smartly dish to an open man, or nail the 3-ball (40% from the arc). HC Beilein is adept at making half-time adjustments, and super-steady PG Abdur-Rahkman should be able to find seams in a ‘Nole defense ranked a lowly 211th in points allowed. Plus, Wolverines frosh Jordan Poole made a quantum leap in the confidence department by nailing UM’s amazing game-winning shot vs. Houston! |
03-24-18 | Pelicans +8.5 v. Rockets | 91-114 | Loss | -110 | 19 h 8 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units New Orleans has given Houston problems, covering 3 straight and 11 of the last 17 in the series. The Rockets are pushing for the best record in the league, and they’ve been tough to beat at home, winning 13 straight. However, Mike D’Antoni’s side was a much less impressive 5-10 vs. the number in its last 15 as a favorite at the Toyota Center prior to hosting Detroit on Thursday. Pelican PF Anthony Davis and PG Jrue Holiday have combined for 52 ppg against Houston this season, and N.O. is 7-1 SU and vs. the number in its last 8 on the road ? |
03-24-18 | Capitals -175 v. Canadiens | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 18 h 46 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Washington Capitals look to continue their surge and solidify their position at the top of the Metropolitan Division when they visit the struggling Montreal Canadiens today. The Capitals have won six of their last seven after Thursday’s 1-0 victory at Detroit and lead rival Pittsburgh by three points with eight games remaining as they attempt to win a third straight division title. Former Hart and Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price, who made 34 saves Wednesday in his first start in nearly a month due to a concussion, could be back in net but is 6-12-4 lifetime against Washington. |
03-24-18 | Bulls +11.5 v. Pistons | 95-117 | Loss | -105 | 18 h 39 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Things haven’t worked out as anticipated for Detroit, as Stan Van Gundy’s team is just 3-13 SU L16 thru March 18, a streak compiled shortly after the trade for Blake Griffin. Griffin has scored 19.6 ppg on 42% shooting with a 5.4 rebound average. Not too bad, but well below his numbers in 20 games with the Clippers this season. Chicago playing pretty competitively in the week leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, covering all 4 with a 2-2 SU mark despite HC Fred Hoiberg “pulling his punches” and sitting some of his most productive contributors. The Pistons have covered just 3 of 15 chances this season laying 4 pts. or more at Little Caesar’s Arena, and they won’t get any sympathy from the refs after Van Gundy loudly and publicly called out the refs in a recent loss. |
03-24-18 | Sabres v. Rangers -162 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 49 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units Jesper Fast is riding a career-high seven-game point streak after recording two goals and an assist against the Flyers. The 26-year-old Swede has collected three tallies and six assists during his run, putting him within five points of 100 for his career. Mika Zibanejad also has been red-hot as he enters Saturday with a four-game goal-scoring streak during which he has registered six tallies - including his team-leading 26th on Thursday - and a six-game run on which he has collected 10 points. Buffalo concluded a 1-4-1 homestand Friday with a 3-0 setback against Montreal - its second shutout loss in three contests. |
03-24-18 | Blues v. Blue Jackets -160 | 2-1 | Loss | -160 | 8 h 44 m | Show
Rating: 2 Units The Columbus Blue Jackets are on the second-best overall run in franchise history and look to match their longest home winning streak when they host the St. Louis Blues today. Columbus has ridden a string of 10 consecutive victories to third place in the Metropolitan Division and can move past Pittsburgh for second with a ninth straight win at home, which would tie the club mark set from Nov. 29, 2016-Jan. 3, 2017. The Blue Jackets, who are coming off a 4-0 home triumph over Florida on Thursday, have not lost since March 2 at Anaheim and haven't fallen at Nationwide Arena since suffering a 5-2 setback against the Penguins on Feb. 18. On the road, St. Louis has been pretty mediocre, before Wednesday's OT win over the Bruins (at home), they were only 3-7 SU this year when on a win streak of three or more games. |
