Bettors with a particularly strong feel for a certain individual can get a head start (and perhaps added value) by locking in their bets well before training camps open.
Last season, Michael Thomas of the Saints led the rest of the league by a healthy margin with over 1700 receiving yards. No one else even reached 1400.
Thomas’ total leads a list of 44 different wide receivers and tight ends in 2020. CappersPicks will cover each one and make a call on whether to go over or under in a multi-part series.
Stefon Diggs
Two years after signing a big extension with Minnesota off his rookie deal, Diggs was traded to the Buffalo Bills.
He teams up with John Brown to give the Bills a pair of burners on either side of the field. And Diggs has been part of a 1000-yard tandem before in his career with Adam Thielen.
He’s off of consecutive 1000-yard seasons (1130 last season) but a total just under that might still be a little high in a new environment with a new quarterback and new offensive philosophy. Buffalo has not historically been an opportune landing spot for receivers.
Prediction: Under 975.5
Jamison Crowder
Crowder has topped out at 847 receiving yards over his five-year career and has consistently been about an 800-yard guy over his career so this total looks about right.
Last season’s 78 receptions represent a career high, however, and that was in his first year as a Jet and teamed up with Sam Darnold, who clearly likes what he has with Crowder in the slot.
New York’s receiving team will look different on the outside this season with the acquisition of Breshad Perriman and rookie Denzel Mims.
The reality ought to be close to the total, whether over or under. I’m under on Perriman and Mims, which means I’m over on Crowder.
Prediction: Over 825.5
Mark Andrews
Andrews amassed over 550 yards as a rookie, despite starting the season as the fourth tight end on the Ravens’ depth chart. He took a big step forward in his second season last year with 64 catches for 852 yards and 10 touchdowns, which were the most among NFL tight ends.
That was his first season with Lamar Jackson. There are just so many weapons in the Ravens’ offense that Andrews, who is talented himself, can fly under the radar.
No team is going to scheme him out before Jackson or the backfield and that plays into him having another big season as a third-year.
Prediction: Over 900.5
DK Metcalf
That size, playing in that offense, after a promising rookie season, it’s hard not to like Metcalf going into 2020.
Then there’s the fact that his 2020 total is actually lower than his actual receiving total as a rookie in 2019. It’s always a little scary when it feels like the books are begging for action on one side but I’m not going to look too close here.
Prediction: Over 850.5
