Dolphins vs. Vikings Gameday
Miami heads to U.S. Bank Stadium for a Week 4 matchup with Minnesota on Sunday afternoon. Jeff Hafley’s Dolphins are still looking for their first win at 0-3, while Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings have opened the season 3-0.
The records couldn’t look much different.
Miami lost 24-10 to Kansas City last week but remained within one score until midway through the fourth quarter. Minnesota went to Tampa Bay and earned a 23-16 victory despite another uneven afternoon from its offense.
Minnesota keeps finding ways to win, while Miami is still trying to turn competitive stretches into an actual victory.
The Dolphins have lost twice on the road already, falling to Las Vegas and San Francisco. Minnesota returns home after consecutive road victories over Chicago and Tampa Bay.
There’s also a little history on the Vikings’ side.
Minnesota won the most recent meeting 24-16 in Miami in 2022. The Dolphins haven’t visited U.S. Bank Stadium since 2018, when the Vikings rolled to a 41-17 victory.

Miami Dolphins vs. Minnesota Vikings Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Minnesota a heavy home favorite. The Vikings are -623 on the moneyline, Miami is +460, and Minnesota is laying 10.5 points.
The opening total is 38.5.
Miami opened the season with a 27-13 loss to Las Vegas before falling 35-13 at San Francisco. The Dolphins returned home against Kansas City last week and stayed competitive deep into the game before losing 24-10.
Minnesota has taken a very different route to 3-0.
The Vikings opened with a 39-22 win over Green Bay before grinding out a 9-3 victory at Chicago. They followed that with the 23-16 win in Tampa, giving Minnesota two straight victories despite scoring only 32 combined points.
The Vikings lead the regular-season series 6-7 from Minnesota’s perspective, with Miami owning the overall edge.
Minnesota has won the last two meetings, including that 24-16 victory in 2022. The teams haven’t played often, but the Vikings have made the recent ones count.

Vikings Stats From Last Week
Minnesota’s defense carried plenty of the load in Tampa Bay.
The Vikings held the Buccaneers to 230 total yards and sacked Baker Mayfield six times. Tampa Bay converted only two of 17 third downs and went 0-for-2 on fourth down, giving Minnesota’s offense plenty of room to survive an inconsistent afternoon.
The Vikings have been bringing that kind of pressure all season.
Minnesota has recorded at least four sacks and forced at least two takeaways in each of its first three games. Brian Flores’ defense enters Week 4 with 14 sacks, one of the biggest reasons the Vikings remain unbeaten.
The offense has been a different story.
Minnesota converted only two of 15 third downs against Tampa Bay and never ran a play in the red zone. Kyler Murray completed 15 of 29 passes for 168 yards with a TD and an interception.
Jordan Addison stepped up after Justin Jefferson injured his ankle on Minnesota’s opening possession.
Addison caught five passes for 90 yards, including a 41-yard TD. Aaron Jones helped the Vikings control the game on the ground, while Will Reichard connected on three FG’s.
Jefferson’s availability remains something to watch.
He missed Wednesday’s practice with the ankle sprain and was considered day-to-day. Minnesota has no reason to rush its biggest receiving weapon back before he’s ready.
Dolphins Stats From Last Week
Miami’s 24-10 loss to Kansas City was closer than the final score suggests.
The Dolphins answered Kansas City’s opening TD with a 17-play, 91-yard drive and went into halftime trailing only 14-7. Miami cut the deficit to four early in the third quarter and remained within one possession until Kansas City finally created separation in the fourth.
Malik Willis finished 20 of 36 for 210 yards and added 56 yards with his legs.
Miami produced 329 total yards and controlled the football for more than 34 minutes. The Dolphins moved it well enough at times, but turning possessions into points remains the problem.
The bigger loss came in the backfield.
De’Von Achane injured his knee on Miami’s opening TD drive and is out for the season. Ollie Gordon II took over the workload and finished with 17 carries for 41 yards and Miami’s only TD.
Miami moved the football against Kansas City, but losing Achane makes finishing those drives even more important now.
There were some encouraging signs defensively.
The Dolphins held Kansas City to 334 total yards and intercepted Patrick Mahomes once. Rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez continued his strong start with three tackles for loss and the interception.
Miami is still looking for the complete game that has escaped it through three weeks.
Dolphins vs. Vikings QB Matchup
Kyler Murray remains the starter for Minnesota after returning to the lineup against Tampa Bay.
The veteran completed 15 of 29 passes for 168 yards with one TD and one interception. He also ran twice for 17 yards, but Minnesota struggled badly on third down and never reached the red zone.
Murray did connect on a couple of important downfield throws.
His biggest came when Jordan Addison broke free for a 41-yard TD after Jefferson left with the ankle injury. Addison’s increased role could become even more important if Jefferson isn’t ready for Sunday.
Malik Willis has started all three games for Miami.
Willis has thrown for 627 yards with one TD and two interceptions this season. His legs remain a major part of the package, and he rushed for a season-high 56 yards against Kansas City last week.

Willis also showed he can create something downfield against the Chiefs.
He connected with Chris Bell for 44 yards and Greg Dulcich for 42, giving Miami some explosive plays even without putting many points on the board. With Achane gone, Willis may need to create more of those opportunities himself.
Minnesota presents a much different problem up front.
The Vikings have piled up 14 sacks while blitzing at one of the highest rates in football. Willis’ mobility gives Miami at least one way to punish that aggression if he can escape the first wave.
Murray has the better supporting cast, but Minnesota hasn’t asked its offense to carry games yet.
The Vikings have been winning with defense, pressure and timely plays. Miami Dolphins vs. Minnesota Vikings bottom line: Minnesota deserves to be favored, but its low-output offense leaves plenty of room for Miami to hang around if Willis can handle the pressure.
Miami Dolphins vs. Minnesota Vikings Football Betting Trends
- Miami has struggled against the spread as underdogs, going 4-8 in their last 12 regular season games.
- In their last 6 away games, the Dolphins have a 2-4 record against the spread.
- Also, Miami’s away games have tended to go over the total, with a 4-2-1 record in their last 7 regular season games.
- Minnesota is perfect against the spread in their last 8 regular season games, achieving an 8-0 record.
- Additionally, the Vikings have won all 4 of their recent home games against the spread.
- In games where Minnesota is favored, they have not lost against the spread in their last 5 regular season contests.
Dolphins Vikings Free Pick: Dolphins +10.5
Here is my Dolphins Vikings free pick: I’m taking Miami +10.5. I know, backing an 0-3 team on the road isn’t exactly how you impress people at cocktail parties. Good thing I’m trying to beat a number, not win a popularity contest.
Minnesota is 3-0 because its defense has been nasty, but this offense hasn’t done nearly enough for me to happily lay double digits. The Vikings went 2-for-15 on third down in Tampa and didn’t run a single play in the red zone. That’s not exactly an offense built to bury teams.
Minnesota can win ugly all it wants. Covering 10.5 points is a different conversation.
Miami stayed within one score of Kansas City into the fourth quarter last week, and Malik Willis gives the Dolphins enough mobility to make Minnesota’s pressure package work for its money. Losing De’Von Achane hurts, no question, but I don’t need Miami to suddenly become an offensive machine. I need them to hang around.
That’s a big number for a Vikings team still trying to get its offense going, especially with Justin Jefferson’s ankle worth watching. Minnesota can win this game and I can still cash my ticket. Give me Dolphins +10.5.
