Chiefs vs. Raiders Gameday
Kansas City heads to Allegiant Stadium for a Week 4 AFC West matchup between two unbeaten teams. Andy Reid’s Chiefs and Klint Kubiak’s Raiders both enter Sunday at 3-0.
Something has to give in Las Vegas.
Kansas City has opened with victories over Denver, Indianapolis and Miami. The Raiders have beaten Cleveland, the Chargers and New Orleans, with the last two victories requiring fourth-quarter comebacks.
Two unbeaten AFC West rivals in Vegas with Mahomes and Cousins pulling the triggers should get our attention.
The Chiefs have looked more balanced offensively this season with Kenneth Walker giving them a legitimate running game. Las Vegas has answered with Kirk Cousins, Ashton Jeanty and a healthy Brock Bowers back in the mix.
Sunday’s winner gets an early divisional advantage.
The Raiders are trying to open 4-0 for the first time since 2002. Kansas City is trying to remain perfect while continuing a strong recent run against its AFC West rival.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Kansas City the road favorite. The Chiefs are -216 on the moneyline, Las Vegas is +180, and Kansas City is laying 4.5 points.
The opening total is 47.5.
Kansas City comes in after beating Miami 24-10 last Sunday. The Chiefs scored on their first two possessions before the game bogged down through the middle quarters, then Patrick Mahomes put it away with a late TD pass to Travis Kelce.
Las Vegas had considerably more excitement in New Orleans.
The Raiders erased an 11-point second-half deficit to beat the Saints 35-27. That followed a 35-point performance against the Chargers in Week 2.
The most recent meeting looked nothing like Sunday’s setup.
Las Vegas beat Kansas City 14-12 at Allegiant Stadium in January with neither of Sunday’s starting QB’s behind center. Aidan O’Connell started for the Raiders, while Shane Buechele handled the QB duties for Kansas City.
That makes the old final score considerably less useful when looking at this total.

Raiders Stats From Last Week
Las Vegas had to earn its third straight victory.
The Raiders trailed New Orleans by 11 points in the second half before scoring 22 unanswered points in their 35-27 comeback. Kirk Cousins completed nearly 67 percent of his passes for 248 yards and 3 TD’s.
Brock Bowers made an immediate impact in his season debut.
After missing the first two games with a knee injury, Bowers caught 10 passes for 116 yards and a TD. His return gives Cousins another major weapon in an offense that’s finding plenty of ways to score.
The Raiders also got some badly needed help on the ground.
Rookie Mike Washington Jr. broke a 36-yard TD run when Las Vegas needed a spark. Ashton Jeanty remains the lead back and enters Week 4 with 206 rushing yards.
The defense made the comeback possible by turning the fourth quarter into a turnover festival.
Las Vegas forced four New Orleans turnovers in the final quarter. Hezekiah Masses intercepted Tyler Shough, while Malcolm Koonce, Jeremy Chinn and Nakobe Dean all helped create fumbles as the Raiders slammed the door.
Getting Bowers back gives Cousins another weapon, but those four late takeaways covered up plenty of defensive trouble.
Las Vegas has forced nine takeaways through three games.
That’s helped cover for some defensive stretches that haven’t been nearly as clean. The Raiders allowed four TD passes against New Orleans and needed those late turnovers to finally take control.
Chiefs Stats From Last Week
Kansas City didn’t light up Miami for four quarters, but it did enough when it mattered.
The Chiefs scored TD’s on their first two possessions and eventually pulled away for a 24-10 victory. Patrick Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards and 2 TD’s.
Mahomes was particularly sharp off play action.
He completed 11 of 12 play-action attempts for 183 yards and a TD. Kansas City’s improved running game has made those looks more dangerous because defenses have considerably more reason to respect the backfield.
Kenneth Walker continues to give the Chiefs that balance.
Walker scored twice against Miami, once on the ground and once through the air. He enters Week 4 as the NFL’s leading rusher and was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.
Kansas City’s defense handled its end of the deal as well.
Miami moved into Chiefs territory on five consecutive possessions after its opening TD drive but managed only three points during that stretch. Kansas City eventually stopped the Dolphins on fourth down before Mahomes hit Travis Kelce for the TD that put the game away.
The Chiefs are 3-0 without needing Mahomes to carry them every week.
That might be the biggest difference in this version of Kansas City. Walker has given the offense another way to move the chains, while the defense has allowed Mahomes to stay patient instead of chasing points.
Chiefs vs. Raiders QB Matchup
Patrick Mahomes has started the season efficiently for Kansas City.
The Chiefs QB has thrown for 812 yards with 7 TD’s and 2 interceptions through three games. His 20-of-24 performance against Miami was his cleanest afternoon yet, and Kansas City’s stronger running game is giving him more opportunities to punish defenses off play action.
Kirk Cousins has been even busier around the end zone.
Cousins has thrown for 661 yards with an NFL-high 9 TD’s through three games. He added three more against New Orleans and helped Las Vegas erase an 11-point deficit on the road.

The return of Bowers changes the equation for Cousins.
Las Vegas already had Jeanty in the backfield and enough receiving options to move the football without its star TE. Adding Bowers gives Cousins another matchup he can attack when defenses start worrying about the run.
Mahomes has plenty of his own answers.
Travis Kelce caught the late TD that put Miami away, while Rashee Rice remains one of Kansas City’s primary weapons. Walker’s emergence also means the Raiders can’t spend the afternoon treating every important down like Mahomes is automatically throwing it.
Both QB’s have been protecting the football reasonably well while producing TD’s.
That matters in a matchup where each offense has shown it can capitalize quickly on mistakes. Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders bottom line: both offenses enter Sunday with enough ways to score that neither defense should expect the other side to disappear quietly.

- The Raiders have covered the spread in their last 3 regular season games as underdogs.
- Additionally, Las Vegas is 3-0 against the spread following a win in their last 3 regular season games.

Chiefs Raiders Free Pick: Over 47.5
Here is my Chiefs Raiders free pick: I’m going Over 47.5. Las Vegas has scored 35 points in back-to-back games, Kansas City has Patrick Mahomes, and both teams have enough weapons to make 48 points look pretty reasonable.
The Raiders are the side I need to do their share, and I think they can. Kirk Cousins has thrown 9 TD’s already, Brock Bowers is back, and Ashton Jeanty gives Kansas City another problem to worry about.
If Vegas keeps scoring like this, asking Mahomes to help us find 48 points isn’t exactly asking for a miracle.
Kansas City gives me plenty of ways to get there. Mahomes can attack through the air, Kenneth Walker has transformed the running game, and the Chiefs have scored at least 24 in every game. Las Vegas has survived some defensive trouble by creating turnovers, but I’m not counting on that trick working all afternoon against Mahomes.
I want both QB’s contributing here, and I think the Raiders can force Kansas City to keep its foot down. Get me into the mid-20’s on both sides and we’re home. Give me Chiefs-Raiders Over 47.5.
