Chargers vs. Seahawks Gameday
Los Angeles heads to Lumen Field for a Week 4 matchup with Seattle on Sunday afternoon. Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers are still looking for their first win at 0-3, while Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks enter at 2-1.
The Chargers haven’t been far away, but close doesn’t count for much at 0-3.
Los Angeles has been competitive in stretches without finding a way to finish, dropping all three games to open the season. Seattle had its 12-game winning streak snapped in Washington, losing 33-31 despite piling up 437 total yards.
Seattle finally lost last week, while the Chargers are still trying to figure out how to win one.
The Seahawks return home after consecutive road games and will play at Lumen Field for the first time since opening night.
Los Angeles is on the road for the second straight week.
Seattle’s Week 3 loss looked considerably different from the Chargers’ defeat in Buffalo. The Seahawks moved the football all afternoon but sabotaged themselves with three turnovers, while Los Angeles couldn’t generate enough offense after taking an early lead.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Seattle Seahawks Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make Seattle a seven-point home favorite. The Seahawks are -347 on the moneyline, Los Angeles is +279, and the spread is Seattle -7.
The opening total is 43.
Los Angeles has scored fewer than 20 points in every game this season. The Chargers lost 26-14 to Arizona, 26-14 to Las Vegas and 24-16 at Buffalo.
Seattle’s results have covered considerably more ground.
The Seahawks opened with a 13-10 win over New England and then hammered Arizona 31-7. Turnovers finally caught up with them last Sunday in Washington.
These teams haven’t met in the regular season since 2022.
Seattle won that game 37-23 at SoFi Stadium. The Seahawks hold a 27-25 advantage in the all-time regular-season series, although Los Angeles has won two of the last three meetings.

Seahawks Stats From Last Week
Seattle had more than enough offense to win in Washington.
The Seahawks piled up 437 total yards and 28 first downs while averaging 6.8 yards per play. They held Washington to 258 yards, but a 3-0 turnover deficit wiped out nearly every statistical advantage they had.
Sam Darnold returned to the lineup and produced the biggest passing game of his career.
Darnold threw for a career-high 379 yards and 4 TD’s in his first full game of the season. His two second-half interceptions proved costly, including one Washington returned 50 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba continued his ridiculous start.
JSN caught 10 passes for 128 yards and 2 TD’s. He has topped 100 receiving yards with at least one TD in each of Seattle’s first three games.
Seattle’s defense played much better than the final score suggests.
The Seahawks held Washington to 4 yards per play and only 17 first downs. Seattle also recorded two sacks and repeatedly forced the Commanders to work with short fields created by turnovers.
Seattle gave away three possessions in Washington and still lost by only two. That’s a fixable problem.
The secondary could also get some help back Sunday.
Julian Love returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday after missing the Washington game with a calf injury. Nick Emmanwori and Brandon Pili were full participants to begin the week.
Chargers Stats From Last Week
Los Angeles actually started well in Buffalo.
The Chargers jumped ahead 10-0 after their defense created two early takeaways. The offense couldn’t build on it, scoring only six points over the final three quarters as Buffalo came back for a 24-16 victory.
Los Angeles finished with 348 total yards.
Justin Herbert completed 20 of 34 passes for 226 yards with one TD and one interception. The Chargers controlled the football for more than 31 minutes but again struggled to turn enough of those possessions into TD’s.
The defense gave Los Angeles every chance to steal the game.
The Chargers forced five Buffalo turnovers, including two interceptions and three recovered fumbles. Despite all those extra possessions, Los Angeles still couldn’t get beyond 16 points.
That has been the story through three weeks.
The Chargers have scored only 44 points all season. They’ve reached the end zone five times and haven’t scored more than 16 points in a game.
Los Angeles also has several injury situations worth watching.
Ladd McConkey and Derwin James opened the practice week as limited participants, while Donte Jackson, Charlie Kolar and Dalvin Tomlinson were among those who did not practice Wednesday. Their status remains unsettled heading toward Sunday.
Chargers vs. Seahawks QB Matchup
Sam Darnold is back under center for Seattle after a frustrating start to his season.
A glute injury knocked him out after one drive in the opener and kept him sidelined in Week 2. His return against Washington showed there isn’t much wrong with the arm.
Darnold threw for 379 yards and 4 TD’s.
He also threw two interceptions in the second half, and one went back for a Washington TD. Seattle doesn’t need another 379-yard afternoon if Darnold takes better care of the football.
Justin Herbert hasn’t found the same rhythm through three weeks.
The Chargers QB has thrown for 627 yards with 3 TD’s and 4 interceptions. Herbert has been held below 230 passing yards in every game, including 226 against Buffalo last week.

Herbert hasn’t been getting much help from the scoreboard.
Los Angeles has yet to reach 20 points, putting more pressure on every mistake when possessions reach the opponent’s side of the field. Seattle’s secondary presents another difficult assignment after opening the season among the NFL’s toughest units to throw against.
Darnold has a receiver playing about as well as anybody in football.
Smith-Njigba already has 405 receiving yards and 6 TD’s through three games. His ability to create explosive plays gives Seattle a way to score without asking Darnold to force the issue repeatedly.
Herbert still has the arm talent to make Seattle pay if the Seahawks get careless.
The problem has been sustaining enough offense around him to turn those throws into points. Los Angeles Chargers vs. Seattle Seahawks bottom line: Seattle has shown considerably more explosiveness, but the Chargers’ inability to finish drives could keep the scoreboard from getting away from them.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Seattle Seahawks Football Betting Trends
- The Chargers have a 4-3 record straight up in their last 7 away games during the regular season.
- Los Angeles is 3-2 against the spread as an underdog in their last 5 regular season games.
- The Seahawks have won all 6 of their recent home games straight up in the regular season.
- Seattle holds a 13-1 record straight up as a favorite in their last 14 regular season games.
- Additionally, the Seahawks are 9-5 against the spread as favorites in their last 14 regular season games.
- Also, the Chargers are 3-1 against the spread after a win in their last 4 regular season games.
Chargers Seahawks Free Pick: Under 43
Here is my Chargers Seahawks free pick: I’m taking Under 43. Seattle showed last week that it can score when Darnold gets rolling, so I’m not going to insult anybody’s intelligence and pretend the Seahawks can’t move the football. I’m betting the Chargers don’t contribute enough to turn this into a track meet.
That’s been the problem with Los Angeles. Herbert can make all the throws, but too many drives end with a mistake, a FG attempt or everybody walking back to the sideline wondering what happened.
Seattle can do most of the scoring here and still leave us comfortably Under 43. I’m perfectly fine with that arrangement.
Game script helps me too. If Seattle gets ahead, Mike Macdonald has absolutely no reason to turn Darnold loose for another 379-yard adventure against a Chargers defense that forced five turnovers in Buffalo. Run it, protect the football and make an 0-3 team prove it can chase you.
I can live with Seattle getting into the 20’s. What I don’t buy is Los Angeles suddenly discovering an offensive personality in one afternoon at Lumen Field. Keep the fireworks in the parking lot. Give me Chargers-Seahawks Under 43.
