Broncos vs. 49ers Gameday
Denver heads to Levi’s Stadium for a Week 4 matchup between teams that have combined for five wins through three games. Sean Payton’s Broncos enter at 2-1, while Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers are unbeaten at 3-0.
The Broncos arrive with momentum after consecutive victories.
San Francisco hasn’t stumbled yet, opening the season with three straight wins behind one of the NFL’s hottest QB’s and a balanced offense.
Denver keeps finding ways out of trouble, while San Francisco hasn’t needed nearly as many escape routes.
Sunday brings a different challenge for a Broncos team coming off consecutive games at altitude. San Francisco, meanwhile, is playing its third straight game at Levi’s Stadium.
The 49ers have paired an explosive offense with a defense that’s done enough to keep Shanahan from spending much time chasing games. Denver has been considerably more volatile, making this a good test of whether its recent momentum travels.

Denver Broncos vs. San Francisco 49ers Odds & Last 5
The opening odds make San Francisco a short home favorite. The 49ers are -142 on the moneyline, Denver is +119, and the spread is San Francisco -2.5.
The opening total is 48.5.
Denver opened the season with a 31-10 loss at Kansas City before returning home and beating Jacksonville. The Broncos then erased a 16-point halftime deficit against the Rams, scoring 30 points after the break to win 30-26.
San Francisco’s latest victory required a little more work than its first two.
The 49ers beat Arizona 36-30 after opening the season with victories over the Rams and Dolphins. San Francisco has scored 35 or more in each of its last two games.
These teams haven’t met in the regular season since 2022.

49ers Stats From Last Week
San Francisco survived its first real shootout of the season against Arizona.
The 49ers trailed 10-0 early and later watched a 17-point fourth-quarter advantage shrink to three. They answered when necessary, including a late scoring drive that gave them enough breathing room to finish the job.
Christian McCaffrey gave San Francisco another productive afternoon.
He rushed for 105 yards and added 53 through the air. George Kittle caught a pair of TD’s as San Francisco continued spreading the scoring around.
The 49ers also reached 100 rushing yards for the third consecutive game.
That’s important because it keeps the offense from becoming completely dependent on Purdy. San Francisco’s offensive line has also done an exceptional job keeping its QB upright.
The injury list is worth watching heading into the weekend.
Mike Evans, Nick Bosa and Christian McCaffrey were among the 49ers who did not practice Thursday. Mykel Williams was limited, while Trent Williams’ status also bears watching as Sunday approaches.
Broncos Stats From Last Week
Denver’s defense completely changed the Rams game after halftime.
Talanoa Hufanga returned an interception 66 yards for a TD and later grabbed the game-sealing pick. The Broncos also sacked Matthew Stafford three times after the break as the defense helped turn a miserable first half into a comeback.
Denver’s offense eventually joined the party.
After producing only 67 yards before halftime, the Broncos generated 190 in the second half. Pat Bryant delivered a 39-yard catch-and-run on the winning possession before Nix scored the go-ahead TD with 47 seconds remaining.
The Broncos have been much better at creating disruption than preventing yardage.
Denver has eight sacks through three games and leads the NFL with four interceptions. Opponents have still been able to move the football consistently, leaving the Broncos dependent on those disruptive plays to kill drives.
Denver can wreck a possession in a hurry, but giving Purdy repeated chances to answer is asking for trouble.
Marvin Mims Jr. is trending in a better direction after missing Week 3.
Mims was a full participant Wednesday and Thursday while working back from his foot injury. J.K. Dobbins and Jaylen Waddle were also full participants both days.
Broncos vs. 49ers QB Matchup
Brock Purdy has been about as efficient as San Francisco could ask through three games.
Purdy has thrown for 789 yards with 9 TD’s and only one interception. He leads the NFL with a 133.1 passer rating, and the 49ers haven’t allowed a sack through their first three games.
Bo Nix has had a bumpier opening month.
The Denver QB has thrown for 605 yards with 4 TD’s and 3 interceptions. His numbers haven’t been spectacular, but Denver has increasingly trusted him with the game in his hands late.

That ability to respond under pressure matters against San Francisco.
Nix can’t afford to spend another afternoon waiting until the second half to get comfortable. The 49ers have enough offensive firepower to make an early deficit considerably less forgiving.
Purdy presents the opposite problem.
He’s been accurate, aggressive and remarkably clean with the football while operating behind excellent protection. If Denver can’t disturb that rhythm with its pass rush, San Francisco can attack without asking Purdy to manufacture much outside the structure of the offense.
Nix now gets his second road start of the season.
Denver needs him to avoid putting its defense in bad spots against an opponent capable of turning mistakes into points quickly. Denver Broncos vs. San Francisco 49ers bottom line: Denver has shown plenty of fight, but San Francisco brings the cleaner offensive formula into Sunday.
Denver Broncos vs. San Francisco 49ers Football Betting Trends
- The Broncos have a strong record against the spread as underdogs, going 4-1 in their last five regular-season games.
- In straight-up terms, Denver has performed well away from home, achieving a 5-1 record in their last six regular-season away games.
- Also, the 49ers have excelled as favorites, with a perfect 9-0 straight-up record in their last nine regular-season games.
- San Francisco has been successful against the spread when favored, posting an 8-1 record in the last nine regular-season games.
- Additionally, the 49ers have consistently hit the over as favorites, with a 5-0 record in the last five regular-season games.
- The Broncos have seen the over hit in 5 of their last 9 regular-season games overall.
Broncos 49ers Free Pick: 49ers -2.5
Here is my Broncos 49ers free pick: I’m laying it with San Francisco -2.5. Denver deserves credit for finding ways to win the last two weeks, but this is a nasty spot to ask the Broncos to keep playing escape artist.
Purdy is the difference for me. Give him time and Shanahan has too many ways to make a defense miserable, especially one that’s been much better at creating big plays than consistently shutting down drives.
Purdy with time against this Denver defense sounds like a problem I’d rather not volunteer to solve.
Denver can absolutely make this interesting if its pass rush creates some chaos. The problem comes if San Francisco gets ahead and forces Nix into chase mode, because that’s when the 49ers can quit guessing and start coming after him.
Best part is I don’t need San Francisco to bury anybody. Win by a FG and we’re cashing instead of sweating some ridiculous backdoor nonsense with 14 seconds left. I’ll happily take that deal. Give me 49ers -2.5.
