Are you tired of placing bets and not seeing any return? Do you want to become a smarter gambler and consistently find good sports bets? Then it’s time to crack the code and unlock the strategies and techniques used by successful sports bettors. In this post, we’ll explore the key strategies for finding good sports bets, including analyzing Against the Spread (ATS) records, shopping around for the best odds, and using betting tools like odds calculators.
In addition to bookmarking our sports betting 101 guide we hope that by following these strategies, you can become a more informed and successful sports bettor.
So, let’s dive in and start cracking the code to find those elusive good sports bets!
To Find Good Sports Bets You Have To Study Against the Spread Records (ATS)
If you want to find good sports bets you need to know sports bettors rely heavily on Against the Spread (ATS) Records, as it provides them with an indispensable tool for gaining a better understanding of a team’s performance. The records capture a team’s performance against the point spread, which is the margin of victory assigned to a game by sportsbooks.
By scrutinizing the ATS records, you can get a comprehensive picture of how a team performs under diverse conditions, which in turn can enable you to make more informed betting decisions.
To delve into researching and analyzing ATS Records for different sports, start by identifying the key factors that can impact a team’s performance, such as injuries, recent form, and home/away record. Then, utilize this information to compare a team’s ATS record with the point spread assigned by oddsmakers. If a team consistently outperforms the point spread, it may be a shrewd bet.
Shop Around For The Best Odds
As a savvy gambler, you know that odds are paramount when it comes to placing bets. The odds, which indicate the likelihood of an event happening and the payout you’ll receive if you win, should be a top consideration for any wise bettor. In the world of sports betting, it’s crucial to hunt for the most favorable odds to ensure you’re getting the best value for your money.
Taking the time to shop around and compare odds from different sportsbooks can help you secure a higher potential payout. When trying to find good sports bets don’t be tempted to settle for the first odds you come across.
Be Savvy!
Savvy bettors know that comparing odds across multiple sportsbooks is the key to increasing your winnings in the long run. In fact, by finding even slightly better odds, you can boost your chances of success and maximize your profits.
So, if you’re looking to up your betting game, always keep the odds in mind and take the time to research and compare the best odds available. Your bankroll will thank you for it!
Betting Tools: Odds Calculators
When it comes to sports betting, one of the most important things you can do to increase your chances of success is to make informed wagers. This means doing your research, analyzing the teams and players, and staying up-to-date with the latest news and trends. But another key aspect of making informed bets is understanding the odds.
Fortunately, there are plenty of betting tools available to help you do just that. One such tool is the odds calculator. This handy tool can help you quickly and easily determine the potential payout of a bet, based on the odds offered by the sportsbook.
Additionally, when trying to find good sports bets there are many different types of odds calculators available, each with their own unique features and functions.
Some calculators are simple and straightforward, while others offer more advanced options and customization.
No matter which type of odds calculator you choose, the key is to use it in conjunction with your own analysis and research.
While a calculator can help you quickly crunch the numbers and determine potential payouts, it’s up to you to decide whether or not a particular bet is worth making based on your own knowledge and expertise.

Find Good Sports Bets With These Popular Odds Calculators
I want to share with you three of the most popular odds calculators that I use and recommend to fellow gamblers:
- Kelly Criterion Calculator – This calculator is based on the Kelly Criterion formula, which helps bettors determine the optimal size of their bets based on their bankroll and perceived edge. It takes into account the probability of winning and the potential payout, and provides a recommended bet size that balances risk and reward.
- Implied Probability Calculator – This calculator helps bettors convert betting odds into implied probabilities. It supports different odds formats, such as decimal, fractional, and American, and provides a clear and concise breakdown of the implied probabilities for each.
- Parlay Calculator – Parlays are popular among gamblers looking to maximize their winnings by combining multiple bets into one. However, calculating the potential payout of a parlay can be complex. If you are trying to find good sports bets the Parlay Calculator simplifies the process by allowing users to input the odds for each bet and the size of their wager, and then providing a clear breakdown of the potential payout.
Identifying Value Bets
As a professional sports handicapper and gambler, one of the key skills to master is identifying value bets. A value bet is a wager where the probability of winning is higher than the sportsbook’s estimated probability.
By focusing on value bets, you can increase your chances of long-term profitability and avoid wasting your bankroll on unfavorable bets.
To identify value bets, you need to analyze and compare the odds offered by different sportsbooks.
Here are some tips to help you identify value bets and ultimately help you with trying to find good sports bets:
- Look for discrepancies in odds offered by different sportsbooks for the same event or game. What’s more, if one sportsbook offers significantly higher odds than others, it could indicate a value bet.
- Additionally, consider the underlying factors that affect the outcome of the event or game, such as team form, injuries, weather conditions, and historical performance. In fact, if you have a good understanding of these factors, you may be able to identify value bets where the sportsbook has underestimated a team’s chances of winning.
- Also, keep track of your bets and their outcomes to assess your own betting performance and identify areas for improvement. Over time, you can refine your ability to identify value bets and increase your profitability.

Understanding Line Movement
We have a detailed line movement post right here.
The line movement, which refers to the changes in betting odds leading up to a game, can reveal valuable information about how the public and professional gamblers view the upcoming matchup.
Here are some key points to keep in mind when analyzing line movement:
- The first step any professional gambler takes when trying to find good sports bets is to start by comparing the opening line, which is the initial set of odds offered by sportsbooks, to the current line. This will give you an idea of how much the line has moved and in which direction.
- Look for patterns in the line movement. Is the line moving in response to news about player injuries or other relevant information? Is the line movement consistent with the betting patterns of the public or professional gamblers?
- What’s more, consider the timing of the line movement. If the line has moved significantly close to game time, it may be an indication of sharp money coming in. Conversely, if the line movement happened early in the week, it may have been caused by public money.
- Also, keep in mind that line movement is not a guarantee of the outcome of the game. However, understanding why the line is moving can help you make informed decisions when placing your bets.
Note: A Ton Of Bettors tends to favor the favored team, causing the spread to shift against them as the week progresses.

William Burns
(#469) New Orleans Saints @ (#470) Detroit Lions | OVER | .
New Orleans has been hyped up a bit this offseason. With a new addition to the backfield in Travis Etienne, the Saints can now use a two-headed attack with him and Alvin Kamara. Tyler Shough enters year two having finished the year tremendously (5-4 in final nine games.) Chris Olave is healthy and even without rookie wideout Jordan Tyson, I expect Shough to be more comfortable here in year two.
Detroit's offense speaks for itself. It was a down year for the whole squad a year ago. But, I just know that the Lions are going to want to come flying out of the gates here in week one. Detroit scored 28.3 PPG which was tied for 3rd a year ago despite missing out on the postseason. I wouldn't be shocked if that number increases here in 2026-27. Give me the "over."
Burns' Prediction: 34-26 Lions.
Joe Duffy
The market itself has created the value.
Miami opened around a 49.5-point favorite and has been pushed as high as -53.5, while the total has climbed from roughly 56.5 to 63.5. That four-point total move is significant enough that we prefer selling the inflated number instead of buying after the move.
Florida A&M managed only 161 total yards against South Carolina State on Sunday and now has the almost absurd task of playing Miami four days later. FAMU's offense isn't merely facing a talent gap; it is doing so with almost no normal recovery or preparation cycle.
Miami allowed Stanford only six points in its 45-6 opener. Darian Mensah was spectacular — 27-of-30 for 401 yards and five touchdowns — but a game with a spread above 50 creates obvious second-half clock, substitution and game-management issues. Miami can dominate without necessarily forcing the game into the 60s.
The number is the attraction. We would have had little interest in UNDER 56.5. At 60.5 after a four-point move, the equation changes.
Free play: UNDER 63.5

1* Free Pick on Rams -3½
The 49ers land in Melbourne with a gutted defensive interior.
Alfred Collins is out, Sam Okuayinonu is on injured reserve, and that leaves Osa Odighizuwa and CJ West as the only healthy defensive tackles on the roster.
That's a bad week to see Matthew Stafford.
The Rams quarterback led the league with 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns last season, and L.A. averaged 33.12 points a game across its last 8 in 2025.
Puka Nacua and Davante Adams both come in clean, and Kyren Williams and Blake Corum should find room against a front that can't rotate.
On the other side, 49ers QB Kurtis Rourke draws Myles Garrett making his Rams debut.
Nick Bosa is active for San Francisco, but this is his first game since tearing his ACL in Week 3 last season.
The travel angle is the strongest case against this bet.
The Rams touched down roughly 36 hours before kickoff while San Francisco arrived nearly a week early.
I won't dismiss it, but McVay rested his starters all preseason to keep this roster fresh, and late-arrival travel plans are a deliberate choice, not an oversight.
When the matchup up front is this lopsided, I'll take talent over acclimation.
The fair counter is that L.A. gave up 26.88 a game over its final 8 last season and Aaron Donald isn't ready yet.
Fine.
The offense carries this number.
Both teams sit at 0-0, so this comes down to last year's tape and this week's injury report.
L.A. has also won 3 of the last 4 meetings in this series.
I like the Rams

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Headlines with a NEVER Field Totals System NINERS vs RAMS
The Thursday comp play is on the over 62.5 points in the Florida A@M at Miami Florida game at 8 eastern. The Canes will likely get close to this one their own as Game 2 home favorites of 48 or more are 5-0 to the over since 2019 if they allowed less than 10 points in their last game and these teams average over 57 points. The Canes made quick work of Stanford and now welcome in a Florida A@M team that comes in off a win in their opener and they have a decent offense capable of getting 7-10 points here which would get this over. The last 11 meetings have been Miami Blowouts and the last 2 the Canes have put up 126 points. Look for this game to push over the total. GL Rob V-

Cal has a new coach and system and they fell apart last week in Berkely, being outscored 21-0 by UCLA to lose by 21 points. I do not have much confidence in this team and feel Ron Rivera is in over his head as general manager. Syracuse got some confidence last week destroying New Hampshire and they did win at Cal in 2024 in route to a 10 win season. I see them bouncing back this year and making a bowl game. They should be able to win this game by double digits. Do not miss out on Doc’s Sports Weekend card featuring top plays football, soccer, and tennis. Forty-four and a half is a quiet number until you remember who is walking into NRG on Sunday. Buffalo at Houston, 1:00 Eastern, Week 1, a pick’em dressed up like a heavyweight and a total that already admits this should look like 24-17, not 31-28. The public hears Josh Allen and starts adding touchdowns. The board heard Houston’s front and hung 44.5 like it meant it.
Last year the Bills went 12-5 and scored 481 points, 28.3 a night, tied for fourth in the league. That tape is real. So is a road opener in a building that has treated Allen like a tourist. Including the postseason he is 1-4 against this franchise with a 55.4 percent completion rate. That is not a curse you put on a poster. That is a completion percentage that lives in the 200s and a lot of third-and-long. Houston went 12-5 as well. The Texans were 7-11-1 to the total. Buffalo was 10-8-1. One of those clubs already knew how to keep a Sunday from turning into a track meet.
Week 1 is not January. First real snaps, first real crowd, first real script that has not been stress-tested since the spring. Openers lean under for a reason. Coaches call it safe. Quarterbacks check it down. Clock becomes the whole ticket. A 23-17 Texans win cashes 44.5 in its sleep. A 24-20 Bills win cashes. A 27-13 still has a pulse. The scores that beat it are the ones where both quarterbacks start slinging it in the fourth quarter of an opener because somebody panicked. That is not how this spot usually ages, and it is not how NRG usually ages when Buffalo is in town.
You do not need a defensive struggle that looks like 9-6. You need this to stay out of a late auction. Allen can still be the best player on the field and the under still gets paid. Stroud can still look like a franchise and the under still gets paid. The number is not asking you to fade talent. It is asking you to fade rust plus a Houston defense that does not need permission to hit.
Pertinent ledger from last season, the kind that lives on a football reference page if you want to stare at it: Bills 481 points in 17 games, 28.3 a night, 12-5, 19 giveaways. Texans 12-5, 12 giveaways, second-fewest in the league. Combined that is two grown clubs, not a cupcake and a bully. Combined they were not a 50-point problem every Sunday. Houston’s total record already told you that. Buffalo’s scoring average is the trap. People take 28.3, add a home dome, and forget that 28.3 was earned across a year, not on the first Sunday in somebody else’s building.
The public will smash Allen props and the over because the logo travels and the quarterback sells tickets. Let them. A 220-yard Allen night and a 210-yard Stroud night with a couple of field goals is an honest opener. James Cook can still eat and the total can still sit down. The ticket is not “nobody scores.” The ticket is “nobody turns this into a shootout before the rust comes off.”
Sit on 44.5. If the number drips to 43.5 it gets cleaner. If they hang 46.5, the edge is thinner and you can live without it. Sunday’s ticket is the under, not the chalk, not the revenge poster, not the first-game narrative that always sounds smarter on Saturday night.
Bet under the total in Week 1 games posted 45.5 or lower.
The Under’s record since the 2025 season: 12-7 (63.2%) with an average over/under of 43.8. (+4.1 units, ROI=19.7%)
Bet under the total in Bills road games against a 12-win defense.
That spot since 2023: 7-3 (70.0%) with an average over/under of 46.1. (+3.5 units, ROI=31.8%)
Bet under 45 in Week 1 games that open as a pick’em or inside a field goal.
That spot since 2024: 9-5 (64.3%) with an average over/under of 44.2. (+3.4 units, ROI=22.1%)
Bet under the total when Josh Allen plays in Houston.
That spot since 2022: 4-1 (80.0%) with an average over/under of 46.8. (+2.7 units, ROI=49.1%)
Confirm the number is still 44.5 closer to kick. Confirm both clubs are still listing the names you expect. Then take the under and let everybody else argue about a one-point spread in Week 1. Enjoy the early window. Bet the total. Let the logos yell at each other while the clock does the work.
Player Prop bets :Josh Allen’s passing line is sitting around 221.5. Take the under. He can still win the game and live in the 190s if Houston’s front gets him off schedule.
C.J. Stroud is around 218.5 passing yards. Same lean. Under. A home opener against Buffalo does not require 250. It requires 205 and a couple of scores.
Allen under 1.5 passing touchdowns is the other quarterback ticket. One through the air and a field-goal night is an honest road opener in this building.
James Cook around 73.5 rushing yards is the over that still fits the under. If this stays on the ground, he eats clock and the total still cashes.

My selection is on Cincinnati minus the points over Tampa Bay at 1 pm et on Sunday.
We saw considerable regression from the Buccaneers down the stretch last season as they ultimately missed the playoffs after having it set up on a platter for them in the down-trodden NFC South. So obviously Tampa Bay has a chip on its shoulder entering the 2026 campaign but I'm not sure that will make a lick of difference. I think we're going to see the Bucs get involved in their share of shootouts again this year and in the season opener, that suits Cincinnati just fine. The Bengals finally have QB Joe Burrow healthy to start a season and he has all the weapons around him he needs to take his team on a 'Super Bowl of bust' type of run this year. The big news is that Cincinnati finally made some moves to bolster its much-maligned defense. I think the Bengals defense is well-positioned to come up with the splash plays needed to ultimately pull away in this particular contest. Bettors are hesitant to back the Bengals in Week 1 given their early season futility in recent years. I think this is a team with a fresh outlook, however, and one that brings a lot of optimism into its home opener. Take Cincinnati (8*).

Jets @ Titans — Week 1
The Saleh Storyline
Robert Saleh coached the Jets from 2021–24 before being fired mid-season. He spent 2025 as 49ers DC, and now gets his first game as Titans head coach — fittingly, against his old team. Aaron Glenn enters Year 2 in New York. Both coaches downplay the "revenge" angle, but the intrigue is real.
The Quarterbacks
Geno Smith returns for the Jets — a veteran who can manage a game, but he's turnover-prone, and Saleh's blitz packages will test his protection instincts. Cam Ward enters Year 2 for Tennessee, still learning new OC Brian Daboll's scheme. Neither offense should be explosive in Week 1; I'd expect conservative play-calling and a run-first approach from both sides as the defenses try to keep things clean.
Weapons
Jets: Breece Hall looks good to play, and Garrett Wilson is a clear WR1 — on paper, the better supporting cast at multiple spots.
Titans: Calvin Ridley, Wan'Dale Robinson, and rookie Carnell Tate (the No. 4 overall pick, brought in for receiver help) lead the passing game, with Tony Pollard and Spears splitting backfield work. Saleh has confidence in his young QB, but this group doesn't move the needle for me yet.
Edge for Tennessee: home field, plus Saleh's inside knowledge of Jets personnel.
The Trend
Teams that posted a turnover differential of -0.9 or worse per game the previous season have rebounded well in Week 1 of the following campaign — 11-8-1 SU and 14-5-1 ATS (73.6%) since 2013 when not facing a similarly bad team. That's +8.5 units, 44.7% ROI, Grade 68. (per Steve Makinen)
The Market
Jets have covered 8 of their last 10 vs. Tennessee, including a 24-17 road win in Nashville back in September 2024, and have won 4 of the last 5 outright.
Titans opened -3; the line has already drifted to -1.5 on Jets support.
The Play
Skipping the spread — I'm not sure Jets ML stays plus money for long, so I'm taking it now.
Take Jets +105.

For my best free pick on the board here for Thursday, I am looking at the NFL and the game in Australia between the LA Rams and the SF 49ers. Much like my free pick on Wednesday, we see big money and bets on the UNDER here on Thursday Night as of recording this late on Wednesday afternoon. Very usual as bettors tend to go with the over on national tv games, but these two teams, known for defense, I think will be scoring a lot more than anticipated, especially in the 2nd half of this game. These two teams have gone over in 6 of the last 7 times they have met head-to-head.
