2026 PGA Tourney Previews
2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Free Picks are on deck as the PGA Tour heads to Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda, October 22–25. With $6 million in prize money, valuable FedExCup points and next season’s playing privileges hanging in the balance, this fall stop carries plenty of pressure. The coastal layout adds another wrinkle, where shifting winds can turn a promising round into a long afternoon.
I’m backing four golfers to handle that challenge: Ben James +1175, Taylor Pendrith +3300, Haotong Li +6300 and Davis Riley +13500. It’s a mix of recent form, proven course experience and a couple of longer-priced shots worth considering. Here’s where I see the best opportunities on this week’s outright board.
James enters as the favorite after a terrific stretch of golf. Defending champion Adam Schenk returns to the scene of his breakthrough, with Corey Conners and Austin Smotherman adding experience. Nobody gets a free pass on this course.
My card has one favorite, one proven Port Royal performer and two golfers who can make a much bigger dent in the payout if they put four rounds together.
Senior Handicapper, CappersPicks.com
Golf outrights can make a smart handicapper look foolish in a hurry. Your golfer can lead through 54 holes and still hand somebody else the trophy on Sunday.
I want a convincing reason to back each player, and I want the odds to compensate me for everything that can go wrong.

2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship PGA Preview
Port Royal Golf Course isn’t especially long by PGA Tour standards. Its exposed coastal holes punish poor distance control, particularly when the wind shifts. Miss on the wrong side of a green and that easy-looking birdie hole becomes a fight for bogey.
Accurate iron players can compete with longer hitters here. Length helps on reachable holes, but 320-yard drives won’t save a golfer who keeps missing his approach shots.
The key is deciding whose approach game travels well when Port Royal gets uncomfortable.
Ben James Leads the Bermuda Championship Field
James arrives with three consecutive top-five finishes and four in his last six starts. That’s impressive consistency for somebody still searching for his first PGA Tour victory.
He’s earned favorite status. Now he has to finish the job.
At +1175, James needs to win more than once in roughly 13 attempts to clear the break-even point. That’s a demanding number for a player still chasing his first Tour title.
I’m keeping him on the card, but he won’t dominate it.
Corey Conners and Austin Smotherman
Corey Conners brings established PGA Tour experience and reliable ball-striking. If the breeze strengthens, his approach play could keep him competitive while less accurate players struggle.
Austin Smotherman arrives after winning the Bank of Utah Championship, so he’s already demonstrated he can close out a tournament. His +2800 price deserves attention, although one victory doesn’t automatically make him a bargain.
Conners sits at +2350. I respect both golfers, but neither makes my outright card.
Young Talent and FedExCup Pressure
Amateur Kihei Akina follows a top-10 finish at the Baycurrent Classic with another opportunity against PGA Tour professionals. That’s impressive, although a strong finish and a tournament victory are two very different accomplishments.
Schenk faces a different challenge as defending champion. He’s trying to improve his FedExCup position while returning to the site of his first Tour victory.
Motivation doesn’t put birdies on the scorecard.
At Port Royal, the wind can expose a weak approach game faster than any world ranking. I want golfers who can adjust when the easy-looking holes stop being easy.
Butterfield Bermuda Championship History & Past Winners
2025 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Recap
Adam Schenk earned his first PGA Tour victory in his 243rd start, finishing 12-under-par and defeating Chandler Phillips by one stroke.
His final-round 71 was enough to survive difficult Sunday conditions.
What stands out is how little Schenk needed to do on Sunday: one birdie, one bogey and a closing par to hold off Phillips. When the wind made scoring difficult, his even-par 71 was enough. That final round is a useful reminder that the winning number can change dramatically with the weather.
Past Butterfield Bermuda Championship Winners
- 2025: Adam Schenk
- 2024: Rafael Campos
- 2023: Camilo Villegas
- 2022: Seamus Power
- 2021: Lucas Herbert
- 2020: Brian Gay
- 2019: Brendon Todd
Nobody has successfully defended this title since its 2019 debut. Schenk can change that at +13000. His old trophy won’t hit a single approach shot for him.
Schenk won with a Sunday 71 after shooting 65 on Friday. At Port Royal, the same player can face two completely different tests in one tournament.
2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Best Bets
I’m playing four outrights at different prices. Each needs a separate path to victory, and Riley gets the smallest bet amount.
Here’s why each golfer made the cut.
Ben James +1175 — PGA Outright Pick
James keeps finding the leaderboard. Four top-five finishes in six starts show he can contend repeatedly. That’s the strongest argument for taking the shortest number on my card.
He hasn’t won on Tour yet. That closing pressure concerns me more than his ability to reach Sunday in contention.
The +1175 price implies a 7.84% break-even probability. His form makes a modest bet defensible.
It doesn’t justify betting the farm.
Razor’s pick: Ben James +1175.
Taylor Pendrith +3300 — PGA Outright Pick
Taylor Pendrith has already won on the PGA Tour and owns two top-10 finishes at Port Royal. He tied for fifth in 2022 and eighth in 2023.
He knows where to attack and where to take par at Port Royal.
The +3300 price implies a 2.94% break-even probability. Pendrith’s course history makes that number worth considering. Two previous top-10s aren’t a promise, but they’re better evidence than a golfer saying he likes the greens.
Razor’s pick: Taylor Pendrith +3300.
Haotong Li +6300 — PGA Darkhorse Pick
Haotong Li arrives with three top-20 finishes in his last four starts across the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. His recent results suggest his game is competitive enough to make this price worth examining.
Li needs more than a tidy scorecard. He needs a genuine run at the lead.
At +6300, Li needs a winning chance above 1.56% to offer value.
I can justify a small bet on his recent competitiveness, but he has to turn those top-20s into a Sunday challenge.
Razor’s pick: Haotong Li +6300.
Davis Riley +13500 — PGA Longshot Pick
Davis Riley owns two PGA Tour victories and finished tied for seventh at Port Royal in 2022. He also recorded a third-place finish at the Rocket Classic last month.
Riley can beat PGA Tour competition. He can also disappear for weeks at a time. That’s why the price needs to do some heavy lifting.
The +13500 price implies a 0.74% break-even probability. I’ll risk a little on his upside, but nothing more.
Razor’s pick: Davis Riley +13500.

Razor’s Bermuda Championship Betting Strategy
I won’t bet the same amount on all four golfers. For example, a hypothetical $20 on James, $15 on Pendrith, $10 on Li and $5 on Riley risks $50 altogether.
If Riley wins at +13500, his $5 ticket produces $675 profit. After accounting for the other $45 in losing bets, the card earns $630 net.
That arithmetic shows what one upset could return. I’ll reserve room for head-to-head and finishing-position bets after Thursday, once I’ve seen how the course plays.
Four outrights are enough for me. Buying another eight longshots because the payouts look enormous is a terrific way to turn a golf tournament into an expensive weekend.
Best Sportsbooks for PGA Golf Betting
If Li drops from +6300 to +5000, a winning $10 ticket earns $130 less profit. That’s enough to make me reconsider the bet.

2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship FAQ
Where is the 2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship played?
The tournament runs October 22–25 at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda. The coastal layout measures 6,828 yards and plays to a par 71.
How is PGA Tour tournament prize money divided?
Regular PGA Tour events generally award 18% of the purse to the champion, with the remainder distributed according to the official payout schedule. When professionals tie, they divide the combined prize money for the finishing positions involved.
Do amateur golfers receive PGA Tour prize money?
Amateurs competing while retaining amateur status cannot accept the tournament’s professional prize money. The payout allocation adjusts so eligible professionals receive the applicable finishing-position awards.
What happens when a golfer misses the cut?
Players outside the low 65 and ties after 36 holes do not advance to the final two rounds. They generally receive no share of the standard tournament prize purse, although separate Tour benefits may apply.
How much prize money do PGA Tour golfers actually keep?
Players pay applicable taxes and expenses such as caddie compensation, coaching and travel. Those costs vary by player, contract and jurisdiction, so there’s no reliable universal percentage of gross prize money that every golfer takes home.
What else does a Butterfield Bermuda Championship victory provide?
Along with the winner’s check, the champion receives 500 FedExCup points and generally a two-season PGA Tour exemption. Additional tournament invitations depend on the applicable qualification requirements.
2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Final Picks
My 2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Free Picks card remains James, Pendrith, Li and Riley. Pendrith is the course-history play I like most at his number.
James has the stronger recent form, but he comes at a premium.
If those prices shorten sharply before Thursday, I’ll pass rather than chase. The ticket doesn’t get better just because I’ve already talked myself into the golfer.
“
RAZOR RAY’S TAKE: If the Bermuda wind starts pushing shots sideways, I’ll take the golfer who knows when to put the flagstick out of his mind. Birdies are nice. Keeping a double bogey off the card can be worth a whole lot more on Sunday.
