05-11-23 | Giants v. Diamondbacks +129 | 6-2 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 30 m | Show
San Francisco is expected to send right-hander Alex Cobb (2-1, 2.01 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. He tossed seven scoreless innings in a 4-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers last Saturday. Cobb, 35, has given up a total of four runs with a 24-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his last four starts covering 26 innings. Arizona will counter with left-hander Tommy Henry (1-0, 5.17), who is making his fourth start since being recalled from Triple-A Reno on April 24. Henry, 25, allowed two runs on six hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Washington Nationals last Saturday. Henry is facing the Giants for the second time after allowing five runs over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision on Sept. 23, 2022. |

05-11-23 | Rangers v. A's OVER 8.5 | Top | 4-0 | Loss | -115 | 9 h 15 m | Show |
Texas will open the Oakland portion of its trip with its hottest pitcher, right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (4-2, 3.22 ERA) on the mound. The 33-year-old has been on top of his game his last two times out, throwing a complete-game shutout in a 2-0 win over the New York Yankees on April 29 before blanking the Los Angeles Angels over eight innings in a 10-1 win on Saturday. Eovaldi will be making his 10th career start against the A's, having gone 2-2 with a 3.46 ERA in the first nine. |
|||||||
05-11-23 | White Sox v. Royals +1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 4 m | Show |
Mike Clevinger (2-3, 4.84 ERA) takes the mound, undefeated in 14 career appearances against the Royals with 13 starts, posting a 9-0 record and 1.98 ERA. He last faced Kansas City in a no-decision on July 25, 2020, when he struck out six and surrendered two earned runs over seven innings. After beginning the season with wins in each of his first two starts, Clevinger has lost three and pitched a pair of no-decisions. In his last appearance Saturday at Cincinnati, Clevinger struck out seven and gave up four earned runs over six innings in his third loss of the season. Brady Singer (2-4, 8.82) makes the start for the Royals in Thursday's matchup, looking to bounce back after losses in each of his last two starts, and four of five overall. Singer last appeared Saturday, giving up five earned runs in four innings in a loss to Oakland. The four innings were the second-fewest Singer worked in his seven starts of the season, save only his prior appearance April 30 at Minnesota. Thursday marks Singer's 10th appearance against the White Sox and ninth start, the last coming Aug. 30, 2022, when he struck out four and gave up four earned runs in a no-decision. He recorded a win over Chicago the same month, allowing just one earned run over 7 1/3 innings. Singer is 3-2 all-time against the White Sox with a 3.35 ERA and 46 strikeou |

05-10-23 | Mets v. Reds UNDER 9 | Top | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 9 h 28 m | Show |
In two career starts against the Reds, Verlander is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA. Verlander would become the 21st pitcher ever to record a win against all 30 teams with a win against Cincinnati. In Verlander's last start against the Reds, he allowed four runs and six hits over seven innings and took the loss as Cincinnati beat the Houston Astros 4-3 on June 18, 2019. Last Thursday in Detroit, Verlander made his Mets (and 2023) debut, allowing two runs and five hits over five innings. He walked one, struck out five and took the loss as New York fell 2-0 to the Tigers. The Reds will counter on Wednesday with another hard-throwing right-hander, Hunter Greene (0-2, 3.74 ERA), who, like Verlander, also is searching for his first win of the season. In his latest outing, Greene was staked to leads of 3-0 and 4-3 but allowed two runs in the sixth and was charged with the loss in a 5-4 setback to the Chicago White Sox on Friday. Greene is set to make his second career appearance against the Mets. Last July 4 in Cincinnati, Greene allowed six runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings as New York beat the Reds 7-4. The Mets had to scratch their other veteran ace on Tuesday when 38-year-old Max Scherzer experienced neck spasms. |

05-10-23 | Rangers v. Mariners -1.5 | 4-3 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 30 m | Show
Seattle ace Luis Castillo looks to bounce back from a rare tough outing when the Mariners host the Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series. The Mariners will try to move over .500 for the first time since starting the season with a victory. Seattle has won seven of its past nine games, including a 5-0 triumph over the Rangers on Tuesday. Texas won the opener of the three-game set 2-1 on Monday. Castillo will be try to follow up three straight dominating starts by teammates Bryce Miller, Logan Gilbert and George Kirby. Miller allowed two hits in six shutout innings during a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday. Gilbert gave up two runs and struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings during the Monday loss to Texas, and Kirby pitched seven innings of six-hit, shutout ball in the Tuesday win. The trio combined for 24 strikeouts against two walks in 19 2/3 innings Right-hander Dane Dunning (2-0, 1.42 ERA) will be on the mound for Texas in the finale. He will make his second straight start after beginning the season in the bullpen. Dunning figures to be in the rotation for a while after Bochy said Tuesday that ace right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow inflammation) won't ramp up toward a return for another two or three weeks. He is eligible to be activated from the injured list on Sunday. Dunning tossed five shutout innings against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. He gave up two hits and one walk and struck out three. Dunning, 28, is 1-1 with a 4.26 ERA in five career starts against Seattle. Cal Raleigh is 3-for-8 with a homer and two doubles vs. Dunning, and Julio Rodriguez (2-for-11) also has homered against him. |

05-10-23 | A's v. Yankees -1.5 | Top | 3-11 | Win | 100 | 3 h 29 m | Show |
 Jhony Brito (2-3, 6.08 ERA) will make his eighth career start on Wednesday. Brito has allowed three runs or fewer in five of his starts but is coming off his second-worst outing, when he allowed four runs on six hits in four innings during a no-decision at Tampa Bay on Friday. Kyle Muller (1-2, 6.62 ERA) goes for the A's on Wednesday, hoping to turn in a solid outing for an Oakland rotation that is 2-19 with a major league-worst 7.76 ERA. Muller allowed five runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings and got a win over the host Kansas City Royals on Friday. It was the first victory by an Oakland starter through 33 games, the longest drought to open a season in baseball history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Neither Brito nor Muller has previously faced his Wednesday opponent. |

Nola is 0-2 with a 5.48 ERA in four career starts against the Blue Jays. After a five-game losing streak, the Blue Jays responded with a key three-game series sweep over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Blue Jays outscored the Pirates 22-3, capped by a 10-1 victory on Sunday. Alek Manoah (1-2, 4.71 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Blue Jays. In Manoah's last start against the Boston Red Sox, he gave up eight hits and five runs, two earned, in five innings. |

05-09-23 | Rays -1.5 v. Orioles | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -100 | 15 h 48 m | Show |
The Rays, who are seeking their 10th win in their past 12 games, will look to take the three-game series behind Zach Eflin (4-0, 2.25 ERA) on Tuesday. The right-hander allowed just three hits to go along with 10 strikeouts and no walks over seven innings of a 3-2 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates last Thursday. Eflin hasn't faced the Orioles since he was a member of the Phillies during the 2020 season, when he allowed four runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk in a 5-4 loss. The Rays are counting on a long outing from Eflin considering their bullpen is in flux after left-handed reliever Garrett Cleavinger was put on the 15-day injured list on Monday with an apparent right ACL injury. The Orioles, who lost a series opener for the first time this season after winning their first 11, will counter with rookie right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (1-0, 5.46). Rodriguez did not earn a decision after getting rocked for six runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk in just 3 2/3 innings in a 13-10 win over the host Kansas City Royals last Thursday. He has never faced the Rays. |

05-08-23 | Rangers v. Mariners -150 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -150 | 13 h 45 m | Show |
Monday's opener will feature a pair of hard-throwing right-handers, Texas' Jon Gray (1-1, 4.40 ERA) and Seattle's Logan Gilbert (1-1, 4.01). Gray is 1-2 with a 5.53 ERA in five career starts against the Mariners. Gilbert is 2-0, 2.85 in seven lifetime starts vs. the Rangers. |
|||||||
05-08-23 | A's v. Yankees -185 | Top | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 10 h 15 m | Show |
Nestor Cortes (3-2, 4.91 ERA), who is coming off the worst start of his career and has allowed 14 runs over his last three starts, opens the series for New York. Cortes had his turn pushed back due to strep throat and is pitching for the first time since getting torched for seven runs and five hits, including three homers, over 4 2/3 innings in a 15-2 loss at Texas April 30. Cortes is 0-1 with a 4.38 ERA in four career appearances against Oakland. In his only start against the A's, Cortes allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings in a 3-2 road loss on Aug. 28, 2021. JP Sears (0-2, 5.06) -- who was 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA in seven games (two starts) before the Yankees traded him at the 2022 deadline for Frankie Montas -- goes for Oakland. Sears is coming off his best start of the season, when he allowed four hits in six scoreless innings before Oakland's bullpen allowed five runs in the 10th inning of a 7-2 loss to Seattle on Wednesday. |
|||||||
05-08-23 | Rays v. Orioles +1.5 | 3-0 | Loss | -114 | 10 h 35 m | Show
The Rays will open the series with left-hander Shane McClanahan (6-0, 2.03 ERA), who has been among the best pitchers in the majors. He gave up a run on five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in six innings during an 8-1 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Tampa Bay has won each of McClanahan's seven starts this season, as he has yielded two runs or fewer while pitching at least five innings in all seven outings. The Orioles will counter right right-hander Kyle Gibson (4-1, 4.61 ERA). Gibson is coming off his worst start of the year, when he allowed six runs on 10 hits with no strikeouts and no walks over 6 2/3 innings in a 6-0 loss to the host Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Gibson is 6-5 with a 4.35 ERA and 50 strikeouts and 22 walks in 13 career appearances (12 starts) against the Rays. All of those outings came as a member of the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers from 2013-21. |
|||||||
05-07-23 | Nationals +1.5 v. Diamondbacks | 9-8 | Win | 100 | 6 h 39 m | Show
Right-hander Trevor Williams (1-1, 3.41 ERA) starts for Washington. Williams has not earned a decision in any of his past four starts, but he pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings with four strikeouts in his most recent appearance on Tuesday against the Cubs. Williams will face Arizona for the first time since April 23, 2022, when, as a member of the New York Mets, he lasted just two innings after giving up seven hits and four earned runs in a loss. Williams is 2-4 in eight career appearances against the Diamondbacks with 26 strikeouts and a 3.50 ERA. Ryne Nelson (1-2, 6.39) is set to make the start for Arizona on Sunday. Nelson took the loss in each of his past two starts, the most recent of which came April 30 at Colorado. Nelson surrendered six earned runs on nine hits over just four innings against the Rockies. The right-hander has given up 20 combined base hits in his past two starts, allowing 11 in an April 25 loss to Kansas City. Sunday marks Nelson's first career appearance against Washington. |
|||||||
05-07-23 | Blue Jays -1.5 v. Pirates | Top | 10-1 | Win | 125 | 5 h 52 m | Show |
Pittsburgh was without designated hitter Andrew McCutchen and infielder Ji Hwan Bae, who sustained ankle injuries Friday -- McCutchen during pregame warmups and Bae coming out of the batter's box in the eighth. Shelton said McCutchen and Bae are "trending in the right direction." In the series finale, Toronto left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (4-0, 4.02 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Roansy Contreras (3-2, 4.09). As with most of the Blue Jays rotation, Kikuchi got caught up in the team's five-game losing streak entering this series. On Tuesday against Boston, he did not get a decision after allowing five runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. Among the first six hits off him were three doubles and a homer. Kikuchi is 0-0 with a 7.11 ERA in two career appearances, one start, against Pittsburgh. Contreras was cruising along with three straight quality starts, going 2-0 in those games, before he stumbled in his most recent outing. He gave up four runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday against Tampa Bay and was visibly frustrated in the dugout when he came out of the game. In his only appearance against Toronto, a start last Sept. 3, Contreras had a quality start but did not get a decision. He allowed one run and four hits in six innings, with five strikeouts and two walks. |

05-07-23 | Rockies v. Mets UNDER 9 | Top | 13-6 | Loss | -120 | 3 h 38 m | Show |
Left-hander Joey Lucchesi (1-0, 3.86 ERA) is expected to start on three days rest for the Mets against Rockies right-hander Ryan Feltner (2-2, 4.45). The Mets' offensive struggles continued Saturday afternoon, when Rockies starter Austin Gomber and two relievers combined on a seven-hitter in Colorado's 5-2 win. The Mets had just one extra-base hit Saturday, when RBI groundouts by Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor produced their lone runs. New York has scored a total of just four runs in its last four games and has been outscored 66-40 in going 3-10 since April 22. Overall this season, the Mets are tied for seventh in the National League in runs with 144. But they're just five runs ahead of the 13th-place Rockies. In addition, the Mets have been shut out six times after being blanked eight times in 2022 -- when they finished tied for third in the NL with 772 runs scored. That was a 136-run improvement from 2021, when New York finished ahead of just the Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates. |
|||||||
05-06-23 | Astros v. Mariners +1.5 | Top | 5-7 | Win | 100 | 12 h 30 m | Show |
The Mariners plan to start left-hander Marco Gonzales (2-0, 4.74 ERA) on Saturday. He has struggled against the Astros, going 2-9 with a 4.89 ERA in 14 career appearances (13 starts). The Astros called up fellow right-hander J.P. France from Triple-A Sugar Land. France is scheduled to make his major-league debut Saturday night at Seattle in the middle contest of the teams' three-game series. |
|||||||
05-06-23 | Blue Jays v. Pirates +1.5 | 8-2 | Loss | -132 | 9 h 31 m | Show
Saturday, Toronto is expected to start right-hander Jose Berrios (2-3, 5.29 ERA), with Pittsburgh going with right-hander Johan Oviedo (2-2, 4.78 ERA). Berrios, in his most recent outing, gave up five runs and 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings Monday against Boston without getting a decision. He had given up just three runs total over his previous three starts. Berrios is 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA in two career starts against the Pirates. Oviedo took the loss Sunday at Washington when he gave up seven runs and nine hits in 2 1/3 innings -- all season worsts. Oviedo has faced the Blue Jays once, a start in Toronto last Sept. 2 in his Pirates debut. He tossed three scoreless, no-hit innings, though Pittsburgh ultimately fell to the Blue Jays 4-0. |
|||||||
05-06-23 | Marlins v. Cubs OVER 9 | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 23 m | Show |
Drew Smyly (3-1, 2.83 ERA) is slated to take the mound for the Cubs on Saturday. The left-hander yielded just a second-inning homer and five other hits without a walk while lasting seven innings in Monday's 5-1 victory at Washington. It was Smyly's fifth straight start allowing two or fewer earned runs, and he is 4-1 with a 2.37 ERA in six appearances (including five starts) against the Marlins. However, Miami's Jean Segura, Jon Berti (8-for-17 with three walks and four runs in his last five games) and Bryan De La Cruz are a combined 7-for-11 against Smyly. The left-hander has never faced the Marlins' Luis Arraez, the majors' leading hitter with a .437 average after recording three hits on Friday. Arraez is 8-for-13 this season against the Cubs. Schumaker is scheduled to hand the ball to right-hander Bryan Hoeing (0-1, 6.23 ERA), who allowed two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings of Sunday's 4-3 win over the Cubs. |
|||||||
05-05-23 | Rangers v. Angels UNDER 9.5 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 12 h 43 m | Show |
Left-hander Tyler Anderson (1-0, 5.74 ERA) will make his sixth start of the season for Los Angeles. He is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in five career games (four starts) against Texas. The Rangers also are getting production from an unexpected source in catcher Jonah Heim. Acquired by the Rangers in a trade in 2021 from the Oakland A's, Heim was a defense-first catcher with the idea he could prove a solid backup. But he's taken over the starting duties for Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, thanks to his ability to contribute offense as well. Heim, a switch-hitter, is batting .294 with seven doubles, six homers, 23 RBIs and a team-leading .959 OPS. "This guy does a terrific job behind the plate," Bochy said. "Metrics show that he's a good framer, good catcher, good blocker and a good thrower. He's hitting (close to) .300 now with power that keeps on both sides of the plate. He's emerging as one of the better catchers in the game. That's how good I think he is." The Rangers, who have won four of their last five games, had not yet announced a starting pitcher for Friday's game as of Thursday evening. |
|||||||
05-05-23 | White Sox v. Reds OVER 8.5 | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 40 m | Show
A pair of starting pitchers in search of their first win of the season square off when the Chicago White Sox visit the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series. The White Sox had their modest three-game winning streak snapped Thursday while the Reds are coming off a 3-3 road trip through Oakland and San Diego. Right-hander Lance Lynn (0-4, 7.16 ERA) will take the mound for the White Sox for the seventh time. Lynn has lost four of his six starts, including his last three, in which he has allowed 13 runs on 18 hits in 16 2/3 innings to pitch to a 7.02 ERA. The White Sox are 0-6 when Lynn starts this season. Cincinnati will counter with right-hander Hunter Greene (0-1, 2.89), who has had much tougher luck in his six starts to open 2023. Greene has allowed just one earned run over his last three starts, covering 14 innings. Last Saturday in Oakland, he matched his season high with 10 strikeouts over five innings as the Reds rallied in the ninth for a 3-2 win. The Reds are 2-4 in Greene's six starts. Greene will be making his first career start against the White Sox. |

05-05-23 | Yankees +170 v. Rays | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 50 m | Show |
The New York Yankees have plenty of ground to make up on the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East standings. A good time to start would be Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in St. Petersburg, Fla. Despite having the second-highest payroll in the majors, the Yankees enter the series last in the division, nine games behind the MLB-best Rays, who have the 28th-ranked payroll. "We have time to make up ground," New York general manager Brian Cashman told reporters on Wednesday. "... Don't count us out. Don't give up on us." The Yankees helped their cause with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings against the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night, giving New York two straight wins following a four-game losing streak. The Yankees should start moving up the standings once they get some of their injured players back. |
|||||||
05-04-23 | Blue Jays -160 v. Red Sox | 5-11 | Loss | -160 | 14 h 2 m | Show
Righthander Brayan Bello (0-1, 6.57 ERA) takes the mound for his fourth start of the season after allowing just one run and striking out six in five innings Saturday against Cleveland. Bello was called up from Triple-A Worcester to sub for the injured Garrett Whitlock before his last start. Righty Kevin Gausman (2-2, 2.33) looks to pitch Toronto out of its skid after pitching seven shutout innings in consecutive appearances. He has also fanned at least 11 in three of his last four outings. Gausman did not factor into the decision despite a sparkling line Saturday against Seattle. He scattered six hits, walked one and struck out 13 in seven innings in that game. |
|||||||
05-04-23 | Angels v. Cardinals -135 | 11-7 | Loss | -135 | 9 h 3 m | Show
Los Angeles will start Griffin Canning (1-0, 4.11 ERA) in the finale at Busch Stadium. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in five innings in his previous start, a 5-3 victory over the Oakland A's. That was his first big league victory since June 9, 2021. Canning missed the 2022 season while recovering from a stress fracture in his lower back. He is still scraping off rust and rebuilding endurance. The Cardinals will start Jack Flaherty (2-3, 3.94 ERA), who struggled in his last start while lasting just 4 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits, two walks and a hit batter in a 7-3 loss. |
|||||||
05-04-23 | Pirates v. Rays UNDER 8.5 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 9 m | Show |
The under is 6-2-1 in their last nine meetings and 7-3-2 in Rays last 12 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. |

05-03-23 | Cubs v. Nationals UNDER 8.5 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 19 m | Show
Jake Irvin will make his major league debut when he starts against the visiting Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. Irvin, a 2018 fourth-round draftee, has been among the prospects in Washington's system. The 26-year-old left-hander is 2-2 with a 5.64 ERA with Triple-A Rochester this year. He holds an 11-14 career minor-league record and 3.80 ERA. Irvin hasn't pitched since last Wednesday when he went 5 1/3 innings against the St. Paul Saints. Right-hander Marcus Stroman (2-2, 2.29 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Cubs. Despite Stroman's good numbers, the Cubs have lost three of his last four starts. Other than when he gave up three home runs to the Los Angeles Dodgers - his only long balls allowed this season - he has lasted at least six innings in his other outings. The Cubs have been pretty much a .500 team, but there are encouraging signs. |
|||||||
05-03-23 | Giants +150 v. Astros | Top | 4-2 | Win | 150 | 4 h 20 m | Show |
Logan Webb (1-5, 4.10 ERA) will start the series finale for the Giants. The right-hander has recorded a decision in each of his six starts this season. On Thursday, he took a loss against the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Webb lost his first four starts, pitching to a 4.94 ERA, before beating the New York Mets on April 22. Webb is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA over two career starts against the Astros. In his latest appearance against Houston, a 5-3 home victory on Aug. 1, 2021, he allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts over six-plus innings. Left-hander Framber Valdez (2-3, 2.54 ERA) will start the rubber match for Houston. He has logged five consecutive quality starts, most recently allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over seven innings in a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Valdez has alternated losses and wins over his past five starts. Valdez has faced the Giants once previously, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings in a 9-6 road victory on July 30, 2021. |
|||||||
05-03-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Rangers | Top | 12-7 | Win | 100 | 4 h 24 m | Show |
Arizona Diamondbacks top pitching prospect Brandon Pfaadt is going to have his hands full when he makes his major league debut against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers are swinging the bats as well as anyone in baseball. They pounded the New York Yankees and All-Star Nestor Cortes in a 15-2 victory on Sunday, and then began their rally from a 4-1 deficit against Diamondbacks ace Zac Gallen on Tuesday en route to a 6-4 victory. Texas left-hander Andrew Heaney (2-2, 4.38 ERA) will make his sixth start of the season on Wednesday. Heaney turned in a quality start in his previous outing, allowing three runs over six innings, but it was a losing effort against the Yankees on Thursday after he yielded three runs on four hits. Heaney gave up all three runs in the second inning that night, and he will look to avoid falling in an early hole again. |

05-01-23 | Reds v. Padres -1.5 | Top | 3-8 | Win | 100 | 19 h 20 m | Show |
Weaver is 3-5 lifetime against the Padres with a 3.97 ERA in 13 games (nine starts). A notoriously slow starter, Snell vowed during spring training to get off to a faster start. The Padres are 0-5 in his starts to date. He has given up 15 runs (14 earned) on 25 hits and 18 walks with 26 strikeouts in 23 innings. But he has allowed two runs over five innings in each of his last two starts against Atlanta and the Chicago Cubs. |

05-01-23 | Cubs -1.5 v. Nationals | 5-1 | Win | 129 | 17 h 39 m | Show
Chicago left-hander Drew Smyly (2-1, 3.21 ERA) opposes left-hander MacKenzie Gore (3-1, 3.00) in the series opener. Smyly has been a solid performer early in his second season with the Cubs. After being hammered for seven runs -- six earned -- in his first outing of the season, Smyly is 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA over his past four starts. Last time out, Smyly allowed two runs on four hits over five innings of a no-decision against the San Diego Padres. He struck out four and walked one while throwing 89 pitches. The two runs came on three hits and a walk in the fourth. |

05-01-23 | Guardians +1.5 v. Yankees | Top | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 17 h 57 m | Show |
Domingo German (2-2, 5.54 ERA) opens the series for the Yankees and makes his third start since retiring the first 16 Minnesota Twins on April 15, striking out 11 and getting checked for sticky substances three times. In two starts since then, he has allowed 10 runs and 10 hits, including five homers in outings against the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota. On Wednesday, German allowed six runs on five hits in six innings and got the win when New York recorded a 12-6 victory. German is 1-2 with a 4.68 ERA in five career starts against the Guardians. He last faced them April 10 in Cleveland when he allowed two runs in three innings but also issued five walks without getting a strikeout. Cal Quantrill (1-2, 5.40) goes for Cleveland and is coming off his shortest outing so far. In a 6-0 loss to Colorado on Monday, he allowed five runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. The rough outing occurred after he tossed six scoreless innings in a 3-2 win at Detroit on April 19. |
|||||||
04-30-23 | Giants v. Padres UNDER 21 | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 44 m | Show
So show some concern for Cobb and Darvish in the series finale. Cobb (1-1, 1.91 ERA) will make his sixth start of the season on Sunday. The 35-year-old has allowed a .278 opponents' batting average with 26 strikeouts against four walks in 28 1/3 innings. Cobb is coming off his best performance of the season. On Monday, he threw a complete-game, six-hit shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals in San Francisco. Over the last two games, Cobb has allowed one run on 13 hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts over 14 innings. The Giants are 3-2 in games started by Cobb, who sports a 1-1 record with a 4.12 ERA in four career appearances (all starts) vs. the Padres. Over his last two starts, Darvish (1-2, 3.00) has given up two runs on six hits and seven walks with 17 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings. He is 2-2 with a 6.29 ERA in nine career games (all starts) against the Giants. He was 0-1 vs. them with a 10.38 ERA in two starts last season, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits in 8 2/3 innings. |

04-30-23 | Pirates v. Nationals +132 | Top | 2-7 | Win | 132 | 7 h 1 m | Show |
There is something about this number that seems to be begging the players to take the Pirates. Pittsburgh should be -190, we're not falling for the trap. |

04-30-23 | Guardians v. Red Sox -115 | Top | 1-7 | Win | 100 | 4 h 10 m | Show |
The Boston Red Sox will turn to left-hander Chris Sale as they look to take a three-game series from the visiting Cleveland Guardians on Sunday afternoon. A win in the rubber game would allow Boston to claim its sixth out of the first nine series. Sale (1-2, 8.22 ERA) has not won since his second start back on April 6 against Detroit, going 0-2 in three decisions since. He allowed nine hits and five runs in five innings Monday at Baltimore. The seven-time All-Star is still in the early stages of getting back to his full form after being limited to two starts during an injury-plagued 2022 season. Opposing will be Cleveland's talented young southpaw Logan Allen (1-0, 1.50), who struck out eight in six innings of one-run ball last Sunday during his major league debut against Miami. "(I'm) definitely excited to be on a team where so many young guys are getting opportunities to win games, and to see the success that we're having and just doing our best to contribute to that," Allen said. Boston will be looking to build upon a season-high 16-hit effort during Saturday's 8-7, 10-inning win. |
|||||||
04-29-23 | Giants v. Padres -165 | 11-16 | Win | 100 | 7 h 8 m | Show
The two-game series begins with Giants left-hander Sean Manaea (0-1, 6.61 ERA) paired against Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove (1-0, 5.40). Manaea, 31, signed with the Giants as a free agent last Dec. 19 after spending the 2022 season with the Padres, where he was 8-9 with a 4.96 ERA in 30 appearances (28 starts). He is 2-1 in four lifetime starts against the Padres with a 3.22 ERA. This season, he has given up 12 runs on 14 hits and seven walks with 18 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings over five appearances (three starts). Musgrove didn't make his 2023 debut until April 22 after suffering a fracture to the big toe on his left foot during spring training. Musgrove is 4-3 lifetime against the Giants with a 3.15 ERA in 12 starts (71 1/3 innings). Musgrove was 2-0 against the Giants with a 1.07 ERA in five starts (33 2/3 innings) last season. |

Seattle will start right-hander Chris Flexen (0-4, 8.66 ERA) on Saturday. In three career starts against Toronto, Flexen is 0-1 with a 4.41 ERA. Toronto will start right-hander Kevin Gausman (2-2, 2.84), who is 1-3 with a 2.74 ERA in eight career games (seven starts) against Seattle. The Blue Jays have won the first four games of their six-game homestand and have won five straight overall. The Mariners are 1-3 to open a nine-game road trip. They are 3-8 in one-run games this season. |
|||||||
04-29-23 | Orioles v. Tigers OVER 7.5 | Top | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 1 h 20 m | Show |
The Tigers will start a pair of veteran left-handers on Saturday, Eduardo Rodriguez and Matthew Boyd. Rodriguez was perfect into the seventh inning against the Orioles in his latest start, setting down the first 20 batters on Sunday before Ryan Mountcastle slapped a two-out single. Rodriguez came out after the inning and wound up with a no-decision as the Orioles won 2-1 in 10 innings. "I have to say that was the best start of my career," he said. "I took a no-hitter into the eighth in Oakland, but this was a perfect game." Rodriguez (1-2, 2.32 ERA) will carry a streak of 17 scoreless innings into Friday's contest. He blanked Cleveland for eight innings on April 18 and limited the Toronto Blue Jays to one run in six innings on April 12. Kremer (2-0, 6.20 ERA) has won his latest two starts. After blanking the Nationals in Washington for 6 2/3 innings on April 18, Kremer gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings against the visiting Boston Red Sox on Monday. |

04-27-23 | Rays -142 v. White Sox | Top | 14-5 | Win | 100 | 12 h 31 m | Show |
Right-hander Dylan Cease (2-0, 2.73 ERA) is tasked with snapping the White Sox's losing streak. Cease is looking for his own answers after his latest outing. On Saturday against the Rays, he allowed three runs on six hits in four-plus innings, including a first-inning home run by Randy Arozarena, who later won it in the 10th with a walk-off single. Cease has made four lifetime starts against the Rays and is 1-1 with a 3.72 ERA across 19 1/3 innings. The right-hander has allowed 13 hits and 14 walks but fanned 22 in those contests. He will oppose a Tampa Bay team that is in the midst of its first slump. The Rays average 6.28 runs per game, the second-best figure in the majors, but suddenly they cannot score. They were shut out Tuesday and Wednesday by the host Astros. Houston starters Luis Garcia and Hunter Brown combined for 13 scoreless innings and 15 strikeouts while yielding just five hits and four walks. Rays manager Kevin Cash said following the second consecutive defeat that it was more about Garcia and Brown than poor execution by his offense. |
|||||||
04-27-23 | A's v. Angels -1.5 | 7-8 | Loss | -140 | 9 h 32 m | Show
Shohei Ohtani will start for the Los Angeles Angels against the Oakland A's on Thursday afternoon in Anaheim, Calif., looking to continue his remarkable stretch on the mound. The Angels will attempt to seal a series victory, as they have won two of the first three in the four-game set. Ohtani (3-0, 0.64 ERA) has made five starts this season and is yet to give up more than three hits in a game. In fact, he hasn't allowed more than three hits in nine consecutive outings dating back to last season. And he has yielded just two runs in 28 innings. He hasn't allowed a home run all season, the streak going back to last August and totaling 76 consecutive innings. Opposing batters have just eight hits against him this season, two of which went for extra bases (both doubles). Overall, opposing batters are hitting .092 with a .115 slugging percentage. Ohtani already had a vast repertoire of pitches before this season, but he has added a sweeper, which is a cross between a curveball and slider. |
|||||||
04-27-23 | Mariners v. Phillies UNDER 8.5 | Top | 0-1 | Win | 100 | 6 h 33 m | Show |
Matt Strahm (1-2, 3.00 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Phillies on Thursday. Strahm is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA against the Mariners over 4 1/3 innings in five career games, all in relief. Philadelphia's Wednesday starter, Taijuan Walker, left after four innings due to right forearm tightness. "He'll see the doctor (Thursday) and we'll re-evaluate him," Thomson said. The Mariners will look to rebound after squandering the lead on Wednesday. The Mariners will hand the ball to George Kirby (2-1, 3.57 ERA) on Thursday. In Kirby's latest start, against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, he allowed three hits and two runs in six innings en route to a 5-2 victory. Kirby has never faced the Phillies in his two major league seasons. Before the Wednesday game, the Mariners announced that left-hander Robbie Ray would undergo surgery to repair his flexor tendon and he will miss the remainder of the 2023 season. Ray is in the second season of a five-year, $115 million contract. |

04-25-23 | Royals v. Diamondbacks -138 | 5-4 | Loss | -138 | 8 h 23 m | Show
Two right-handers will start against each other on Tuesday, Kansas City's Brady Singer (1-2, 8.14 ERA) and Arizona's Ryne Nelson (1-0, 4.91). Singer has started once against the Diamondbacks, earning the win in Kansas City last Aug. 24. He allowed four hits and a run with six strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. Nelson, in his second major league season, has yet to face the Royals. In his first three starts of the season, Nelson pitched between five and six innings each time and allowed no more than three runs in an outing. He had his worst appearance of the year in his latest outing when he yielded five runs in five innings during a no-decision against the Padres on Thursday. Nelson was a 2019 second-round draft pick of the Diamondbacks, the same as Arizona's Monday starter, left-hander Tommy Henry. |
|||||||
04-25-23 | Astros +170 v. Rays | Top | 5-0 | Win | 170 | 5 h 20 m | Show |
A pair of right-handers will take the mound as the series continues on Tuesday. In what will be his fifth start, Houston's Luis Garcia (1-2, 5.14 ERA) will be looking to regain the form that helped him record a career-high 15 victories in 2022. The 26-year-old Venezuelan's most recent outing against the high-powered Toronto Blue Jays has manager Dusty Baker and the rest of the coaching staff encouraged. In the Astros' 8-1 win on Wednesday, Garcia fired seven shutout innings and yielded just two hits. He struck out nine and walked one over a season-high 92 pitches in Houston's first series-clinching win at home thus far. "Garcia was excellent," Baker said. "He minimized his pitches. Him and (catcher Martin Maldonado) work good together. It was much needed for us." Against the Rays in his career, Garcia is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three starts. Drew Rasmussen (3-1, 2.01) gets the ball for Tampa Bay on Tuesday. In all three of his victories, the 27-year-old Puyallup, Wash., native has held the opposition scoreless -- six innings against the Washington Nationals, seven against the Oakland A's and five his last time out in Cincinnati against the Reds on Wednesday. Rasmussen holds a 2-1 record with a 3.00 ERA in three lifetime starts versus the Astros. Alex Bregman is 3-for-8 with a homer against Rasmussen. |

04-25-23 | Red Sox v. Orioles -157 | Top | 8-6 | Loss | -157 | 5 h 21 m | Show |
The Baltimore Orioles will attempt to extend their seven-game winning streak when they face the visiting Boston Red Sox on Tuesday in the middle game of a three-game series. Baltimore won its seventh game in a row by rallying from a four-run deficit to beat Boston 5-4 on Monday. It was Baltimore's 11th victory in its last 13 games. "It kind of feels like last year's team a little bit," Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde said. "We just don't blow a lot of people out. A lot of tight games. I think our players are better for it with how many tight games we played last year." The Orioles have limited their opponents to 11 runs during the seven victories. Boston failed to score in the final six innings Monday after scoring four runs in the first three. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Baltimore pitchers changed their game plan after first baseman Triston Casas hit a solo home run in the second inning. "They were throwing a lot of fastballs early on and then after that (the home run) it was breaking balls and changeups," Cora said. "And then they switched the script again." Kyle Bradish (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is expected to start for Baltimore on Tuesday. |

04-23-23 | A's v. Rangers UNDER 7 | 2-5 | Push | 0 | 3 h 28 m | Show
The Rangers' six innings with five-plus runs this season leads the majors, and Saturday's 18-run output marked the team's highest scoring performance of 2023. Seeking to parlay that momentum into the series finale, right-hander Jacob deGrom (1-0, 3.48 ERA) will start on the mound for Texas. The two-time Cy Young Award winner has struck out 32 while walking just three in 20 2/3 innings. There was a question as to whether deGrom would start this game after he left Monday's outing against the Kansas City Royals with wrist soreness after throwing four hitless innings and 58 pitches. But Bochy said Saturday that deGrom threw a bullpen session without issues on Friday and is ready to pitch.' Left-hander Kyle Muller (0-1, 7.23 ERA), Oakland's scheduled starter, has faced the Rangers once in his career. As a member of the Atlanta Braves last season, he took the loss as he allowed seven runs on four hits with six walks and three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. This season, Muller has made four starts, and Oakland has lost each one. Oakland has not won consecutive games this season nor won a series. The chance to come up with a series win remains on the table for the A's on Sunday, before they return to the West Coast for four road games against the Los Angeles Angels. |
|||||||
04-23-23 | Tigers +155 v. Orioles | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 24 m | Show
Touted prospect Grayson Rodriguez (0-0, 6.91 ERA) will be making his fourth career start for Baltimore. He hasn't pitched since last Sunday when the Chicago White Sox scored four runs off him in five innings. The Tigers go with lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2, 3.00), who has been stellar in his last two outings. In 14 innings, he has allowed just one run, and most recently, he blanked Cleveland across eight innings Tuesday. He has had considerable success against Baltimore, racking up a 13-5 career record and 2.94 earned run average in 23 appearances, including 21 starts. He has no more than eight wins against any other team. This will mark the fourth time in five outings that Detroit's Rodriguez gets a road assignment. The Tigers had Will Vest summoned from the minor leagues and he arrived in time for the game and threw two shutout innings in relief Saturday night. |
|||||||
04-23-23 | Rockies v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 3-9 | Win | 100 | 1 h 3 m | Show |
The Phillies will send Zack Wheeler (1-1, 4.79 ERA) to the mound Sunday. In four career starts against the Rockies, Wheeler is 2-2 with a 5.16 ERA. The Rockies will look for the series split. Yonathan Daza had two hits and an RBI while C.J. Cron and Elias Diaz added two hits apiece in Saturday's setback. But the Rockies lost Kris Bryant as he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the third inning. Bryant played only 42 games last season and wound up on the injured list three separate times. After the loss, manager Bud Black said that Bryant was considered day-to-day with an SI joint and glute injury. "His swing was compromised a little bit when he put his foot down," Black said. "There was some pain." Jose Urena (0-3, 9.82 ERA) will take the ball for the Rockies on Sunday. Urena struggled in his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates as he allowed seven hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings. Urena has allowed seven home runs in his four starts. He allowed just 10 all of last season in 17 starts. |
|||||||
04-22-23 | Royals +161 v. Angels | Top | 11-8 | Win | 161 | 10 h 50 m | Show |
Left-hander Tyler Anderson (1-0, 6.75 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season Saturday for the Angels. After a strong performance his first time out -- six shutout innings in a win against the Oakland Athletics -- he has struggled his past two times out, giving up 11 runs in 8 2/3 innings. Anderson is 0-2 with a 3.32 ERA in three career starts vs. Kansas City. Right-hander Zack Greinke (0-3, 4.03 ) will make his fifth start of the season for Kansas City, still looking for his first victory. He hasn't pitched poorly, getting into the sixth inning in three of the four starts, and allowing three earned runs or less in three of four. Greinke is 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 20 career games (19 starts) against the Angels. Greinke, like the other Royals pitchers, has been a victim of a lack of run support from the offense. The Royals average just 2.95 runs per game, and their total runs scored are tied with the Miami Marlins and Detroit Tigers (58) to make up the bottom three in the majors. |
|||||||
04-22-23 | Marlins v. Guardians -150 | 6-1 | Loss | -150 | 6 h 47 m | Show
Shane Bieber (1-0, 2.88 ERA) will take the bump for Cleveland in the opener, while Miami had not announced its pitcher. Fellow right-hander Zach Plesac (1-0, 6.92), who was slated to start Friday's game, will pitch the nightcap for the Guardians against lefty Braxton Garrett (0-0, 3.38). Cleveland's fancy footwork with the rotation keeps highly touted prospect Logan Allen on schedule to make his major league debut in the series finale on Sunday. "This is the beginning of that next wave that we can hope can impact us and help us win," Guardians manager Terry Francona said. Bieber, 27, allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings in a no-decision against the Washington Nationals on Sunday. The 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner will be starting against the Marlins for the first time in his career. Plesac, 28, pitched well in his lone home outing on April 9, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings during a no-decision vs. the Seattle Mariners. He logged his first win of the season six days later despite permitting four runs (two earned) in five innings during a 6-4 victory over the Nationals. Plesac has yet to face Miami in his career. The Marlins had won six of seven games before dropping a 5-2 decision in 11 innings to the visiting San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon. Garrett, 25, turned in his best performance in his last outing, yielding one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings of a no-decision against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 15. Like Plesac, Garrett will be facing his Saturday foe for the first time in his career. |
|||||||
04-22-23 | Nationals v. Twins OVER 7 | Top | 10-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 19 m | Show |
Right-hander Chad Kuhl (0-1, 8.59 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Nationals. He has given up at least four runs in each of his three starts, but didn't suffer a loss until April 15 vs. Cleveland. However, the Nationals are 0-3 in his starts. Kuhl, who has made 130 career appearances, all in the National League, has never faced the Twins. Right-hander Pablo Lopez (1-1, 1.73) goes to the mound for the Twins. He has pitched into the sixth inning in each of his four outings, keeping each opponent to two or fewer runs. |
|||||||
04-21-23 | Royals v. Angels -1.5 | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 13 h 46 m | Show
Shohei Ohtani will be on the mound to make his fifth start of the season for the Los Angeles Angels against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night in Anaheim, Calif. However, this appearance will come on three days' rest, compared to five days' rest between his other starts this year. Reason being, Ohtani (2-0, 0.86 ERA) made just 31 pitches in his most recent start, on Monday in Boston. After Ohtani threw two innings, the game was halted in the top of the third inning and delayed by for 85 minutes because of rain. Additionally, the start of the game was delayed by 56 minutes, so the Angels erred on the side of caution and did not allow Ohtani to return to the mound once the game resumed. "I have no control of it and there's nothing I can do, so it's time to move on," Ohtani said postgame through an interpreter. "I felt like I could go back out there, but we didn't know how long the delay would be. We had some internal discussions." Ohtani gave up one run to the Red Sox but did not allow a hit. He has allowed only two runs and six hits in his four starts this season, covering 21 innings. He has 27 strikeouts but also has walked 13 batters, tied for second in the American League. |

04-21-23 | Blue Jays v. Yankees -1.5 | Top | 6-1 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 10 m | Show |
Yusei Kikuchi and Domingo German weren't guaranteed spots in their rotations when they arrived at spring training, but they've shown they belong so far this season. Kikuchi is scheduled to take the mound for the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and German will do the same for the New York Yankees when the teams open a three-game series on Friday night. Kikuchi (2-0, 4.70 ERA) is coming off a 5-2 victory against the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, holding them to one run and four hits in six innings. It was one of Kikuchi's best performances in his two seasons with the Blue Jays. His other win came in his season debut on April 4, when he held the host Kansas City Royals to one run and three hits in five innings during a 4-1 victory. German (1-1, 3.86 ERA) also had to perform well in the spring to make the rotation, and like Kikuchi, is also coming off his best outing so far this season. The 30-year-old right-hander limited the Minnesota Twins to one run and three hits over 6 1/3 innings on Saturday in a 6-1 victory. German took a perfect game into the sixth inning before finishing with 11 strikeouts and no walks. "Good life to his fastball and he used it, but he had a really good curveball going, too," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. German is 2-4 with a 3.72 ERA in seven career appearances against the Blue Jays, including five starts. The Yankees have won four of their past five games, most recently knocking off the visiting Los Angeles Angels 9-3 on Thursday afternoon. New York has limited the opposition to 11 runs in the past five games. |
|||||||
04-21-23 | White Sox +158 v. Rays | Top | 7-8 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 51 m | Show |
Michael Kopech (0-2, 6.32 ERA) is scheduled to start the series opener for Chicago. Kopech has pitched well enough in his past two starts to earn his first victory. He limited the Pittsburgh Pirates to one run and two hits in six innings on April 9, but the offense didn't provide any support in the 1-0 loss. He came back last Saturday and took a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning against the visiting Baltimore Orioles, but gave up a leadoff homer and then was removed after walking the next batter. Kopech ultimately surrendered three runs and six hits in five innings of the 7-6 win in 10 innings. He was pleased with his performance, especially since his only effective pitches were his fastball and slider. "At least a third pitch, if not four pitches, would have been nice," Kopech said. "I probably would have been able to go six or seven instead of just into the sixth." Kopech has made one start against the Rays in his MLB career and blanked them on one hit over five innings in a 3-2 win on April 16, 2022. Reliever Calvin Faucher (0-0, 4.15) will make his second straight start for the Rays and could be asked to pitch as many as four innings. The right-hander has thrown just one scoreless inning of relief against the White Sox in his career. |
|||||||
04-20-23 | Mets -112 v. Giants | 9-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 21 m | Show
The Mets will attempt to extend their hot play on a trip that has seen them swept three straight from the Oakland Athletics before taking two of three against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Senga pitched in the Oakland segment of the tour of California and endured his roughest outing of the season, charged with four runs on seven hits with four walks in 4 2/3 innings on Friday. The right-hander was one out away from recording a third consecutive win before getting pulled with the Mets on their way to a 17-6 romp. Senga, who is just three games into his major league career, has never faced Conforto nor the Giants. Heading into his first appearance at San Francisco could be a concern after Senga admitted that being unfamiliar with the Oakland Coliseum hindered his preparation last week. "I think (long innings in the dugout, the result of A's pitchers walking 17 batters) played a factor to some degree and a new ballpark I never pitched in before," he said of his struggles. "Even still, it's up to me to prepare. I needed to concentrate harder than usual, which I wasn't able to do." San Francisco is expected to counter with Sean Manaea (0-0, 4.76 ERA). The left-hander has nothing to show for his past two starts despite holding the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers to a total of three runs and seven hits in 9 1/3 innings. The 31-year-old has faced the Mets just twice in his career, going 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA. The win came last June as a member of the San Diego Padres. Manaea can expect to see lefty-killing Mets outfielder Tommy Pham in the lineup. Pham is 5-for-8 with a double and two home runs off Manaea in his career. The Mets have attacked the A's and Dodgers from multiple angles. Brandon Nimmo is 13-for-26 so far on the trip, Francisco Lindor has driven in nine runs and Lindor and Pete Alonso have each hit two home runs. Nimmo, Pham, Mark Canha and Daniel Vogelbach also have contributed home runs on the trip. |

04-20-23 | Dodgers v. Cubs +1.5 | Top | 6-2 | Loss | -175 | 8 h 18 m | Show |
The Chicago Cubs made a strong showing on their first extended road trip of the season, taking two of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers to start it off. Looking for a fifth consecutive victory, the Cubs return home Thursday night. And once again they get things started against the struggling Dodgers. Chicago lost three of its first four games this season but is 10-3 since. And following a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics, the Cubs have won four consecutive series. That capped a 5-1 trip that started by holding the Dodgers to two runs in each of the three games. After outscoring the A's 26-3, the Cubs lead the NL in average runs (5.82), and rank among the major league leaders in team ERA (3.24). |

04-20-23 | Rockies v. Phillies UNDER 9 | Top | 5-0 | Win | 105 | 6 h 19 m | Show |
The Phillies will hand the ball to Matt Strahm (1-1, 2.13 ERA) on Thursday. The left-hander struggled in his latest outing and didn't survive the third inning in a 13-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. He was tagged for three runs on two hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. Strahm is 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA in 13 career games (two starts) against the Rockies. Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa, who hasn't played since Saturday because of a back ailment, is questionable for the Thursday game. Thomson said that Sosa would have been available Wednesday in an emergency situation. The Rockies will look to snap a maddening eight-game losing streak, highlighted by a 14-3 drubbing against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday in Denver. Colorado dropped two straight to the St. Louis Cardinals and then were swept in consecutive three-game series by the Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh. The Pirates outscored the Rockies 33-9 in just-concluded set. At 5-14, the Rockies are off to the worst start in franchise history. In addition, they share the NL lead with 14 errors. |

04-19-23 | Twins v. Red Sox +1.5 | Top | 10-4 | Loss | -140 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
Despite leading the major leagues with a 2.60 team ERA, the Twins have allowed the highest percentage of runs via home run at 66.7 percent (30 out of 45 total runs allowed).I'm betting that continues today but we'll need the extra help in what should be a tight ball game.Â

|||||||
04-19-23 | Pirates -118 v. Rockies | 14-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 44 m | Show
Johan Oviedo (1-1, 2.45 ERA) will look to extend the streak of Pittsburgh quality starts as he makes his fourth start of the season on Wednesday. The Cuban right-hander allowed just one run and struck out 10 over seven innings in his latest start, but he was a hard-luck loser to the St. Louis Cardinals, falling 3-0 on Friday. In his only career appearance against the Rockies, Oviedo allowed three runs in six innings during a no-decision on July 2, 2021, in Denver. Left-hander Austin Gomber (0-3, 8.16) gets the start for Colorado. He is coming off an outing to forget, when he lasted just 3 2/3 innings and allowed five runs in a Friday loss to the Seattle Mariners. Gomber gave up three runs (two earned) in five innings during a start against Pittsburgh on July 17, 2022, and he has an 0-2 record with a 5.06 ERA in seven career appearances (three starts) vs. the Pirates. |
|||||||
04-19-23 | Rays v. Reds UNDER 10 | Top | 8-0 | Win | 100 | 3 h 11 m | Show |
The Rays send right-hander Drew Rasmussen (2-1, 2.60 ERA) to the mound in the series finale. Rasmussen suffered his first loss of the season Friday at Toronto, allowing five runs on eight hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Over 4 1/3 innings. The four walks set a career high and the eight hits allowed were his most since surrendering nine hits in a loss to Minnesota last June. This will be Rasmussen's third career appearance against the Reds, all of them coming in Cincinnati. On Sept. 21, 2020, he gave up two homers and four runs in two-thirds of an inning for Milwaukee. He threw four shutout innings in a start last July 9 with Tampa Bay in a game the Rays lost in 10 innings, 5-4. The Reds will try to rebound with a win in the matinee and finish with a winning homestand, going 3-3 in six games so far against Philadelphia and the Rays. The Reds have alternated blowout wins and losses in their last four games, winning 13-0 and 8-1 on Saturday and Monday and losing 14-3 and 10-0 Sunday and Tuesday. The Reds will turn to a rookie making his major league debut Wednesday as right-hander Levi Stoudt gets the spot start. The Reds called Stoudt up from Triple-A Louisville and added him to their taxi squad on Tuesday to prepare him for Wednesday's debut. |

04-18-23 | Brewers +143 v. Mariners | Top | 6-5 | Win | 143 | 13 h 35 m | Show |
Jesse Winker's lone season in Seattle didn't go well. The outfielder tried to play through knee and neck injuries last year, which contributed to him posting career lows in batting average (.219) and OPS (.688) and being limited on defense. Winker was left off the Mariners' playoff roster due to a neck strain, and he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in the offseason along with infielder Abraham Toro in exchange for second baseman Kolten Wong. Winker returned to Seattle on Monday as the Brewers opened a three-game interleague series with a 7-3 win, though he sat out with right oblique tightness. The set continues Tuesday night. Before batting practice on Monday, Winker took swings in the cage, and he could return Tuesday to face Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (1-1, 2.70 ERA). Winker wasn't concerned about returning to Seattle, where his reputation on and off the field took a hit. |

04-18-23 | Rays v. Reds +110 | 10-0 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 38 m | Show
One Cincinnati pitcher that hasn't struggled this season is Tuesday's starter, Nick Lodolo (2-0, 2.12 ERA). The lefty has pitched like the club's ace this season, allowing four runs over 17 innings in three starts, striking out 27 and walking six. Lodolo's two wins have come in his two starts at Great American Ball Park. Last year, Lodolo helped the Reds complete a three-game sweep of the Rays in Cincinnati when he allowed three runs on nine hits in five innings in a 10-5 win on July 10. The Rays counter with right-hander Taj Bradley (1-0, 5.40) in the middle game of the series. Bradley, the top pitching prospect in the Tampa Bay organization according to MLB Pipeline, is making his second career start and appearance. In his major league debut last Wednesday against Boston, Bradley picked up the win, allowing three runs and five hits over five innings while walking one and fanning eight. |

04-18-23 | Phillies v. White Sox OVER 8 | 7-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 11 m | Show
Forecasted high winds and cold temperatures have delayed the start of the visiting Philadelphia Phillies' series against the Chicago White Sox. Monday's game was rescheduled as part of a doubleheader, with Tuesday's regularly scheduled game to begin 30 to 45 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1. Zack Wheeler (0-1, 4.02 ERA) will take the mound for Philadelphia in the opener, with Bailey Falter (0-2, 4.80) pitching in the nightcap. Lance Lynn (0-1, 7.31) and Lucas Giolito (0-1, 6.00) are expected to toe the rubber for Chicago. The Phillies are coming off a 14-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday in which they plated nine in the first inning. Each starter collected at least one hit and one RBI, and the club piled up a season-best 23 hits. Second baseman Bryson Stott, who leads the National League in hits with 27, began the onslaught by taking the second pitch of the game out to right for his first home run of the year. It was part of a three-hit night for Stott, who has hit safely in each of Philadelphia's first 16 games, matching the franchise record for the longest hitting streak to begin a season set by Willie "Puddin' Head" Jones in 1950. |

04-18-23 | Guardians v. Tigers +121 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 121 | 4 h 15 m | Show |
Matthew Boyd had been scheduled to start the Tigers' series finale against San Francisco on Sunday but that game was also postponed after a long weather delay. Boyd (0-1, 4.00 ERA) will now start one of Tuesday's games. He gave up two runs in 4 2/3 innings to Boston in his last outing. He's 4-7 with a 3.98 ERA in 16 career outings (14 starts) against Cleveland. Eduardo Rodriguez (0-2, 4.50 ERA) will start the other game for Detroit and make his first home start this season. He's pitched on the road three times this season, including a sharp performance in Toronto on Wednesday. He limited the Blue Jays to one run on seven hits in six innings but still wound up with a no-decision. Rodriguez is 2-0 with a 4.05 ERA in four career starts against the Guardians, all of which occurred when he pitched for Boston. Detroit shortstop Javy Baez will aim to build off his improved at-bats during the Giants series. Baez was benched in Toronto on Thursday for a baserunning mistake. He responded by reaching base six times in two games against San Francisco, though he's still hitting just .184 with no home runs. |

04-16-23 | Brewers v. Padres -1.5 | 1-0 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 37 m | Show
In his first two starts of 2023, Yu Darvish hasn't given up a first-inning run. But Sunday's first inning could be a real test for the veteran San Diego Padres' right-hander. For starters, the Milwaukee Brewers have scored eight first-inning runs against the Padres while winning two of the first three games in a four-game series in San Diego. "Scoring early against San Diego has been big because they have the tools to score a lot of runs," said Brewers manager Craig Counsell. "Fast starts make things easier." On Sunday afternoon, Darvish (0-1, 4.76 ERA) hopes to get the Padres a series split against Brewers left-hander Wade Miley (1-1, 2.45) in a match of 36-year-old pitchers. And the first inning again could be difficult because Darvish traditionally struggles in the first. Over the course of 244 starts, the first inning is his worst. In 30 starts last season, Darvish had a 5.40 ERA in the first inning, giving up 18 runs, 29 hits and 13 walks with 36 strikeouts. Six of the hits were homers. Rival batters hit .254 off Darvish in the first inning with a .430 slugging percentage. For his career, Darvish has a 4.24 ERA in the first inning. He has given up 42 first-inning homers and issued 103 walks. He also has 290 strikeouts. |

04-16-23 | Angels v. Red Sox UNDER 9.5 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 3 h 6 m | Show |
Following a four-game losing streak, the Boston Red Sox found a way to win back-to-back games against the Los Angeles Angels to get back on track. Boston will look to keep rolling on Sunday when it plays host to the Angels in the third game of the teams' four-game series. With Saturday's 9-7 win, the Red Sox have come from behind in five of their first seven victories this season, while the team has yet to have a starting pitcher record an out in the sixth inning. "It's been tough," Boston manager Alex Cora said. "We were able to survive, but it's kind of too soon to survive, to be honest with you. We've got to be better early on. We will be." Garrett Whitlock (0-1, 9.00 ERA) hopes to shake off a tough Tuesday start at Tampa Bay with some home cooking at Fenway Park, where he is 7-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 41 career games (five starts). |
|||||||
04-16-23 | Twins v. Yankees -1.5 | Top | 0-2 | Win | 143 | 3 h 59 m | Show |
Gerrit Cole held the distinction of leading the major leagues in strikeouts while also allowing the second-most home runs last season. This season, Cole is off to one of the best starts of his career, partially due to his ability to avoid allowing homers. He seeks a fourth straight win Sunday afternoon when the New York Yankees attempt to get a split of a four-game series with the visiting Minnesota Twins. Cole (3-0, 1.40 ERA) has won three straight starts to begin a season for the third time in his career (2013, 2020). Last year, Cole allowed three of his 33 homers and had a 6.35 ERA through his first three outings. So far, Cole has allowed 11 hits -- no HRs -- through his first 19 1/3 innings while beating the San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Guardians. After getting 19 of his 22 strikeouts in the first two outings, Cole got 10 groundball outs and struck out three over seven innings Tuesday in Cleveland. He allowed two runs in the first inning then retired 19 of the final 23 hitters. |

04-15-23 | Cubs v. Dodgers UNDER 9 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 11 h 16 m | Show |
Seiya Suzuki made an immediate impact in his season debut for the Chicago Cubs, who will continue their three-game road series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. Out since suffering a left oblique strain during spring training, Suzuki homered in his season debut Friday as the Cubs rolled to an 8-2 victory. Yan Gomes went 3-for-4 with two home runs for Chicago, which has won six of its past eight games. Suzuki, who batted cleanup in his return, helps to lengthen a Cubs lineup that features Nico Hoerner, Dansby Swanson and Ian Happ at the top of the order. "It's exciting. It was cool to see his name in the lineup," Cubs outfielder Cody Bellinger said. "I think that brings a whole different dynamic to this lineup." Happ went 4-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and a stolen base for Chicago, which snapped a 10-game losing streak against the Dodgers with Friday's victory. Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (0-2, 7.00 ERA) will take the mound on Saturday. He is seeking his first victory with his new team after giving up a total of eight runs (seven earned) over nine innings in his first two outings. |
|||||||
04-15-23 | Guardians v. Nationals +1.5 | 6-4 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 54 m | Show
Right-hander Chad Kuhl (0-0, 8.10 ERA) will be Washington's starter on Saturday. He has gone five innings in both his outings this season, with the Nationals losing each time. Against Cleveland in his career, he is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts, including a loss last June. Cleveland will have right-hander Zack Plesac (0-0, 9.00 ERA) as its starter. He worked seven innings and gave up two runs in a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Plesac, who has surrendered a home run in both of his starts, was the starter in two games that went to extra innings this season. He has made one career appearance against Washington, when he gave up two runs in a five-inning start as a rookie near the end of the 2019 season. |
|||||||
04-15-23 | Giants v. Tigers UNDER 9 | Top | 6-7 | Loss | -110 | 3 h 24 m | Show |
Lorenzen has appeared in 313 major league games, mostly with Cincinnati. He spent last season with the Los Angeles Angels, going 8-6 with a 4.24 ERA in 18 starts. He's 0-1 with a 6.35 ERA in seven career appearances, one start, vs. the Giants. The biggest issue with Lorenzen during his career has been controlled. His career strikeout-to-walk ratio is a mere 2.0. Last season, Lorenzen walked 44 batters in 97 2/3 innings. He has a seven-pitch repertoire and the Tigers signed him with the hope of making him more efficient. |
|||||||
04-14-23 | Mets v. A's OVER 8 | Top | 17-6 | Win | 100 | 5 h 60 m | Show |
Kodai Senga introduces his already-fabled "ghost forkball" pitch to America's West Coast when the New York Mets open a three-game interleague series against the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. Senga (2-0, 1.59 ERA) has been brilliant in his first two Major League Baseball starts after the Mets imported him from Japan in the offseason. In nearly identical performances, the 30-year-old limited the Miami Marlins to one run and three hits in 5 1/3 innings on the road in his MLB debut on April 2, then held them to one run and three hits again in six innings in his first home game last Saturday. The right-hander has struck out 14 and walked six in his 11 1/3 innings while leading the Mets to 5-1 and 5-2 wins. According to FanGraphs, which labels the pitch a splitter, Senga has thrown his signature "ghost fork" 42 times this season and it's been put into play just twice, resulting in one out and one single. Twelve of his 14 strikeouts have ended with the pitch. Senga admitted after his second start that he anticipates hitters soon will come up with a game plan for his nearly unhittable pitch: Let it go. |

04-14-23 | Pirates v. Cardinals UNDER 9 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 41 m | Show |
After falling 5-0 to the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday in the series opener, the St. Louis Cardinals will try to get their offense back on track as the four-game set continues on Friday night. The Cardinals went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base as Pirates starter Vince Velasquez and three relievers limited them to six hits. Pirates outfielder Ji Hwan Bae added to St. Louis' frustration by making a catch crashing into the wall to rob Tyler O'Neill of a two-run double. The Cardinals have scored two runs or less five times during their disappointing 5-8 start, and they have a minus-8 run differential. However, manager Oliver Marmol doesn't believe his team is showing signs of trying too hard at the plate. |
|||||||
04-14-23 | Giants v. Tigers OVER 8.5 | 5-7 | Win | 100 | 2 h 2 m | Show
The San Francisco Giants haven't been able to pair up victories this month. They will try to break that trend during a six-game road trip that begins in Detroit on Friday. All of the Giants' five wins this season have been followed by losses. That's what happened immediately before the trip, as San Francisco shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 on Tuesday, then lost 10-5 on Wednesday in the series finale. "It's disappointing, obviously," Giants outfielder Michael Conforto said. "I think better baseball is around the corner. We've shown flashes of our offense being very potent, very stingy with the strike zone. ... I think there are flashes of what this team can really be. But we've got to start playing a little better all-around baseball." San Francisco got off to a 3-0 lead on Wednesday, but the bullpen couldn't hold it. The biggest culprit was Taylor Rogers, who walked all four batters he faced and was charged with four runs. |
|||||||
04-13-23 | Brewers v. Padres OVER 8.5 | 4-3 | Loss | -120 | 8 h 21 m | Show
Any time the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres get together, reunions break out. The teams have been involved in two recent major trades. Former Brewers Trent Grisham and Josh Hader play key roles for San Diego, while former Padres on the Milwaukee roster include Eric Lauer, Luis Uris (currently on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain), Owen Miller, Luke Voit and Javy Guerra. But while the Padres expect to face the left-handed Lauer in Thursday's opener of the four-game series in San Diego, the Brewers are hoping they won't be matched against former closer Hader. Not only will the presence of Hader likely forecast a Padres' victory, it will remind Brewers fans of a very unpopular trade made last Aug. 1. With both teams in the playoff race, the Brewers traded their All-Star closer Hader to the Padres for four players -- only one of which remains in the Padres system. |
|||||||
04-13-23 | Pirates v. Cardinals UNDER 8.5 | 5-0 | Win | 100 | 7 h 32 m | Show
The St. Louis Cardinals are trying to dig out from a 3-7 start that plunged them into the National League Central basement. After winning back-to-back games to claim a three-game series in Colorado, the Cardinals open a seven-game homestand when they oppose the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. "We really turned the page," Cardinals outfielder Tyler O'Neill told Bally Sports Midwest after his team defeated the Rockies 7-4 on Wednesday. "Just a flip in the energy in the clubhouse. Everyone's very positive and knows we've got each other's backs. We really brought the energy yesterday and today. It's really good to see. The bats are starting to come alive." Jordan Montgomery (2-0, 2.25 ERA) will start the series opener against the Pirates. He allowed three hits in seven innings in his latest start, a 6-0 victory at Milwaukee on Saturday. He struck out nine batters and walked two. Montgomery is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two career starts against the Pirates. |
|||||||
04-13-23 | Tigers +1.5 v. Blue Jays | 3-1 | Win | 105 | 6 h 51 m | Show
Right-hander Chris Bassitt will try to help the Toronto Blue Jays gain their first series sweep of the season Thursday night when he faces the visiting Detroit Tigers. The Blue Jays have won the first two games of the three-game set after pulling out a 4-3 victory in 10 innings on Wednesday. The Blue Jays needed two ninth-inning runs to tie the game before George Springer grounded a single to drive in the winning run. "It's cool to hit a homer, but to manufacture runs in a lot of other ways -- walks, hits, a bunt tonight -- is huge for us," Springer said. "This is a hard league. The more you're able to do, the better." Bassitt (1-1, 10.61 ERA) is 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA in seven career games against Detroit. |

04-12-23 | A's v. Orioles -179 | 8-4 | Loss | -179 | 3 h 29 m | Show
Right-hander Dean Kremer (0-0, 10.13 ERA) will make his third start of the season for the Orioles. He struggled against the New York Yankees and Boston, allowing nine runs in a total of eight innings. Kremer gave up two runs in six innings in last September's no-decision in his only outing against the Athletics. Left-hander Ken Waldichuk (0-2, 14.54) lasted only three innings Friday at Tampa Bay, allowing eight runs. That followed his season debut against the Los Angeles Angels, in which he gave up six runs in 5 2/3 innings. He has never encountered the Orioles in his nine career starts. |
|||||||
04-12-23 | Marlins v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 55 m | Show |
Edward Cabrera (0-1, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to start Wednesday for the Marlins. Cabrera is 1-1 with a 1.64 ERA in two career starts against Philadelphia. The Phillies will look for a bounce-back performance Wednesday from their offense. After a 15-run explosion on Monday, the Phillies scored four runs Tuesday but also had another baserunning blunder. Bryson Stott was caught drifting off first as the Phillies closed within 4-3 in the sixth inning. The Phillies will hand the ball Wednesday to Zack Wheeler (0-1, 5.59 ERA). The right-hander has been very effective in his career against the Marlins, going 10-4 with a 2.41 ERA in 19 starts. |
|||||||
04-12-23 | Brewers +124 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 37 m | Show |
Dominant pitching performances by both teams resulted in the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers splitting the first two games of their series, with the rubber match taking place Wednesday at Phoenix. Arizona starter Zac Gallen struck out 11 and walked one Monday while allowing only three hits in seven innings during the Diamondbacks' 3-0 win. Milwaukee's Corbin Burnes allowed three hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in eight innings during the Brewers' 7-1 win Tuesday. In the first 15 innings of the series, Milwaukee did not score and tallied only three hits. Arizona's Tuesday starter, Merrill Kelly, held the Brewers hitless through the first six innings. The Brewers awoke with a five-run rally in the seventh inning, ignited by Willy Adames' leadoff home run. Mike Brosseau, the No. 9 batter in the lineup, also hit a two-run double in the inning and added a solo home run in the ninth inning. |

04-09-23 | Red Sox v. Tigers +1.5 | 4-1 | Loss | -160 | 12 h 1 m | Show
Matthew Boyd was a starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers from 2015-21. After one season with the Seattle Mariners, he is back in the Tigers' rotation. The left-hander will make his first start at Detroit's Comerica Park since Aug. 29, 2021, on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox. Boyd, who is 0-0 with a 4.15 ERA this season, underwent surgery that September to repair the flexor tendon in his left arm. He signed with San Francisco as a free agent after the 2021 season but was traded to Seattle before his season debut. He made 10 relief appearances for the Mariners, going 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in 13 1/3 innings. He re-signed with Detroit during the offseason on a one-year, $10 million contract. |

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to build off Saturday's dramatic come-from-behind win when they go for a three-game series sweep against the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. Bryson Stott had the first hit off Nick Lodolo, a one-out single in the third, before his game-winning walk-off single in the ninth Saturday in the Phillies' 3-2 victory. Philadelphia scored all three of its runs in the ninth inning, and Stott has hit safely in all eight Philadelphia games this season. "We've done a lot of good things -- we've gotten a lot of hits but haven't necessarily scored, and we've pitched at times and this and that," Philadelphia's Trea Turner said. "We just have to put it all together. We played really well in all facets." In 2022, the Phillies opened 4-8 and were 21-29 at the end of May. This year, they lost five of six to start the season before winning their last two against Cincinnati. |

04-08-23 | White Sox v. Pirates OVER 8.5 | 11-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 15 m | Show
If the remaining two games of a series between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox are anything like Friday's game, they might have to install seatbelts, simply for fans' safety. That's what a wild roller coaster ride the 13-9 Pittsburgh win was. Of course, it left the Pirates feeling a lot better than the White Sox. The game was the Pirates' home opener, and it was their fourth straight win. The contest marked the return to PNC Park in a Pittsburgh uniform for Andrew McCutchen, who spent his first nine seasons with the Pirates and won the 2013 National League MVP. McCutchen, who was the designated hitter, got a long standing ovation before his first at-bat. "I was trying not to cry, honestly," McCutchen, who was 2-for-5, told AT&T Sportsnet. He was outshined in terms of statistics by the player who replaced him in center field, Bryan Reynolds, who hit his fifth homer of the season and drove in six runs. "You can't draw it up any better than that," Reynolds told AT&T Sportsnet. The Pirates finished with 19 hits, but they still gave up 11 hits and nine runs to a White Sox team that has lost three of four. |

Roger Clemens' son figures to be getting a lot more playing time for the Philadelphia Phillies as injuries have turned first base into a revolving door. The Phillies host the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday in the middle game of a weekend series after Kody Clemens was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley before Friday's series opener. Clemens, acquired in a January trade with the Detroit Tigers, made his Philadelphia debut at first base after Darick Hall was placed on the injured list and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Hall will have surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right thumb and that Clemens will start at first primarily against right-handed pitchers. Third baseman Alec Bohm will shift over and play first against left-handed starters, such as Cincinnati's Nick Lodolo (1-0, 3.60 ERA), who starts Saturday's game. Hall was filling in for Rhys Hoskins before Hoskins suffered a season-ending torn ACL in spring training. |
