06-14-23 | Giants +134 v. Cardinals | Top | 8-5 | Win | 134 | 9 h 20 m | Show |
Jordan Montgomery improved to 3-7, allowing three hits and one walk over 6.0 scoreless innings, as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 on Friday. Montgomery struck out six, ending the game with a 3.88 ERA and 1.33 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
06-14-23 | Brewers +1.5 v. Twins | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -135 | 9 h 23 m | Show |
Milwaukee will send Colin Rea (3-3, 4.47 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday for his 11th start and 12th appearance of the season. It will be the first time Rea, a five-year veteran, has faced Minnesota. Rea was solid his last time out, throwing five shutout innings at home against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. He struck out eight while allowing three hits and one walk. The right-hander has a 3-0 record and a 2.95 ERA in his last four starts. Minnesota will hand the ball to Bailey Ober (3-3, 2.61), who will look to continue his strong first half of the season in his 10th start. It will be Ober's first matchup against Milwaukee. Ober's last start came on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, when he got tagged with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits in 5 1/3 innings. He fanned seven and walked two. It was just the third time this season that Ober allowed more than two earned runs. The Wednesday contest will be unfamiliar territory for both pitchers and both lineups, as only one hitter on either side, Taylor for Minnesota and Owen Miller for Milwaukee, has faced the opposing starter. Miller is 1-for-2 vs. Ober; Taylor is 0-for-2 vs. Rea. |
|||||||

06-13-23 | Blue Jays -127 v. Orioles | Top | 6-11 | Loss | -127 | 18 h 8 m | Show |
The Orioles have not named a starter for Tuesday, while the Blue Jays will go with right-hander Chris Bassitt (7-4, 3.29 ERA). Bassitt has followed up one of his worst starts of the season with a pair of strong performances. On May 27, he was blitzed by the Minnesota Twins for seven runs and nine hits over four innings of a loss. He has given up just two earned runs over 15 2/3 inning in his past two starts. Last time out, he went eight innings to beat the Astros on Wednesday, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out five without a walk. |
|||||||
06-12-23 | Rays -1.5 v. A's | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -160 | 8 h 57 m | Show |
Looking to extend the team's winning streak to six games before Tuesday's scheduled event will be right-hander James Kaprielian (1-6, 7.21 ERA), who got the run going with his most impressive start of the season his last time out in Pittsburgh. With the A's having lost their previous five games, he limited the Pirates to one earned run in six innings in an 11-2 road win. Kaprielian was bombed for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings in an 11-0 loss at Tampa Bay in the earlier series, a game in which he served up home runs to Wander Franco, Brandon Lowe and Harold Ramirez. It was his first and only career matchup with the Rays. Right-hander Zach Eflin (8-1, 2.97) will attempt to extend his personal winning streak to five games when he is scheduled to get the ball for the Rays in the series opener. He is coming off 6 2/3 shutout innings in a 7-0 home win over the Minnesota Twins last Tuesday. Eflin will be making his second start of the season against the A's, having beaten them 9-5 at home on April 7. It will be his third career start against the A's. He has gone 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his first two head-to-heads, neither of which were in Oakland. |
|||||||
06-12-23 | Reds v. Royals -107 | 5-4 | Loss | -107 | 6 h 10 m | Show
Kansas City will send right-hander Zack Greinke (1-6, 4.59 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. He is seeking his first victory since May 3, and in his last start, he gave up five runs over 4 1/3 innings in a 6-1 loss to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Greinke, 39, has provided a strong veteran presence in the young Royals' clubhouse. He has gone 1-2 with a 3.00 ERA in six home starts this season. Cincinnati will counter with right-hander Luke Weaver (1-2, 6.27), who escaped with a no-decision on Tuesday after allowing a season-high seven runs over 3 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Weaver, 29, is looking to snap a five-game winless streak. He has given up a total of 15 runs with a 25-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 25 1/3 innings in that stretch. Weaver is facing his former team after posting a 5.59 ERA in 14 relief appearances with Kansas City last season. |
|||||||
06-12-23 | Braves v. Tigers UNDER 8.5 | 5-6 | Loss | -110 | 5 h 54 m | Show
Charlie Morton (5-6, 3.89 ERA) will start the opener. The 39-year-old Atlanta right-hander has three losses and a no-decision in his last four starts. In his last outing Wednesday, Morton gave up four runs -- including two home runs -- and four hits in 4 2/3 innings. He also walked four while striking out five. Morton has continued to rack up strikeouts lately -- he has at least nine in three of his last five starts. He's only faced the Tigers four times in his career, going 1-2 with a 2.00 ERA. Detroit, which has been decimated by injuries, hasn't listed a starter for Monday's game. Manager A.J. Hinch will use a parade of relievers. |
|||||||

|||||||
06-11-23 | Mets v. Pirates UNDER 9 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 10 h 40 m | Show |
In the series finale, New York right-hander Carlos Carrasco (2-2, 5.94 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Mitch Keller (7-2, 3.60 ERA). Carrasco looked as if he might help the Mets end their losing streak at three in New York's game Tuesday at Atlanta when his teammates staked him to a 4-1 lead. But things blew up for him in the sixth, and he ended up giving up three runs without getting an out. |
|||||||
06-10-23 | Astros v. Guardians -134 | 6-4 | Loss | -134 | 7 h 9 m | Show
Houston will send right-hander J.P. France (1-1, 3.44 ERA) to the mound on Saturday. The 28-year-old rookie received a no-decision after allowing three hits over seven innings of one-run ball against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. He had a no-hitter for the first 5 1/3 innings of that contest. France has settled into the Houston rotation with a 29-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his first six career starts covering 34 innings. He will be facing the Guardians for the first time. Cleveland will counter with right-hander Triston McKenzie (0-0, 0.00), who is hoping to build on a successful season debut. He returned after being out with a teres major muscle strain and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 10 over five scoreless innings against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. |
|||||||
06-10-23 | Reds v. Cardinals -163 | Top | 8-4 | Loss | -163 | 3 h 20 m | Show |
After appreciating his excellent big-league debut, the Cincinnati Reds will see what rookie pitcher Andrew Abbott can do for an encore. Abbott (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will face the host Cardinals on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game series. He threw six scoreless innings on one hit and four walks during a 2-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. St. Louis will start Miles Mikolas (4-2, 3.74 ERA), who has allowed three runs or fewer in 10 straight starts and two earned runs or fewer in seven of them. Mikolas took a 2-1 loss at Pittsburgh in his last start. He allowed the two runs on 10 hits in five innings but fell victim to his team's recent power outage. |
|||||||
06-10-23 | Marlins v. White Sox UNDER 8.5 | Top | 5-1 | Win | 100 | 3 h 4 m | Show |
Michael Kopech (3-5, 4.33 ERA) is scheduled to start for the White Sox against Sandy Alcantara (2-5, 5.07) in a battle of right-hander Miami will try to start another streak behind Alcantara, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner who is enduring a rough season. Alcantara allowed five runs -- all in the third inning -- over seven innings and didn't factor into the decision as the Marlins beat the Oakland Athletics 7-5 on Sunday. Outside of the third inning, Alcantara faced the minimum. He retired the first six batters he faced on 13 pitches and erased his only subsequent baserunner -- Ramon Laureano, who singled leading off the sixth -- by inducing a double-play grounder. Alcantara struck out seven and walked none. It was just the third time this season he didn't walk a batter. |
|||||||
06-09-23 | Mariners v. Angels OVER 7 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 28 m | Show
Shohei Ohtani will be on the mound for the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners in Anaheim, Calif., coming off his worst start of the season. Ohtani, a right-hander, gave up five runs and nine hits in six innings against the Houston Astros last Friday, his ERA rising from 2.91 to a season-high 3.30. The nine hits allowed were the most in a game against him all season, and the five runs he surrendered matched a season-worst. The Angels, who have won four games in a row, use a six-man starting rotation, giving all of the starters an extra day between starts, but it's geared more toward Ohtani than anyone else considering he's an everyday player as well. Ohtani (5-2, 3.30 ERA) has had five days of rest between starts on the mound all season, except for one start when he had three days off following a two-inning, 31-pitch outing. Friday, though, Ohtani will pitch on six days' rest for the first time, with Angels manager Phil Nevin using Monday's off-day to push everyone back a day. |
|||||||
06-09-23 | Royals v. Orioles -171 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 59 m | Show |
The Orioles will send right-hander Tyler Wells (4-2, 3.29 ERA) to the mound on Friday. Wells has logged at least five innings in all 12 starts this season. He had a career-high nine strikeouts on Sunday in a victory at San Francisco, when he gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings. Wells has faced the Royals six times and is 3-0 with a 3.54 ERA in those games. He has more wins against Kansas City than against any other team. Left-hander Daniel Lynch (0-1, 4.35 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for the Royals. Lynch, who will be in his third game of the season after coming off the injured list, has worked at least five innings in both of his starts. In his latest outing, he gave up five runs (three earned) in the first inning against Colorado on Saturday, but they he blanked the Rockies over the next four innings. |
|||||||
06-09-23 | Dodgers v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 51 m | Show |
The Dodgers will send rookie right-hander Michael Grove (0-2, 8.14 ERA) to the mound Friday. Grove returned to the rotation Saturday against the New York Yankees, after not pitching since April because of a groin strain. He gave up four runs over five innings while taking the loss. Grove faced the Phillies in his major league debut May 15 of last season and surrendered four runs on four hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings of a no-decision. The Phillies will send left-hander Ranger Suarez (1-2, 5.47) to the mound Friday. Phillies starters have set a high standard of late, with Aaron Nola taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning Monday against the Detroit Tigers and Zack Wheeler taking one into the eighth on Thursday. |
|||||||
06-08-23 | Mets +1.5 v. Braves | Top | 10-13 | Loss | -135 | 17 h 1 m | Show |
Justin Verlander fell to 2-3, allowing one run on five hits and three walks in 6.0 innings, as the New York Mets lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on Friday. Verlander struck out eight, ending the game with a 4.25 ERA and 1.14 WHIP on the season. He needs to step up and earn his $34 million. |
|||||||

|||||||
06-07-23 | Royals v. Marlins -170 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 13 h 15 m | Show
On Wednesday, the Marlins will start right-hander Edward Cabrera (4-4, 4.50 ERA). Cabrera, 25, has never faced the Royals. The Marlins are 7-5 when starting Cabrera this season, including two straight wins. He is 4-0 with a 2.77 ERA in five home starts this year, but in seven road starts, he is 0-4 with a 5.91 ERA. The Marlins, who are 12-2 against American League foes this year, fortified their bullpen on Tuesday when they brought reliever A.J. Puk back from the injured list. The left-hander, who had been sidelined due to left elbow nerve irritation, is 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA and six saves. The Royals, meanwhile, are set to start Jordan Lyles on Wednesday. It has been an epic struggle this year for the right-hander, who is 0-9 with a 6.89 ERA. The Royals are 0-12 when starting Lyles. However, he offered a hopeful sign in his most recent start, going five innings and allowing just two hits, one walk and one run on Friday against the Colorado Rockies. Lyles struck out eight. |
|||||||
06-06-23 | Mariners v. Padres -130 | 4-1 | Loss | -130 | 9 h 17 m | Show
The Tuesday night series opener will match a pair of right-handers: Seattle's Logan Gilbert (3-3, 4.08 ERA) and San Diego's Joe Musgrove (3-2, 4.71). Gilbert is coming off his worst start of the year. On May 30 in Seattle, the 26-year-old gave up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits (including two homers) in just four innings against the New York Yankees. |
|||||||
06-06-23 | Diamondbacks -1.5 v. Nationals | Top | 10-5 | Win | 117 | 7 h 40 m | Show |
Arizona left-hander Tommy Henry (3-1, 3.73 ERA) will oppose Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin (1-3, 5.67) in the series opener. Henry, 25, has allowed just two earned runs in 12 2/3 innings over his last two starts with a scoreless 1 1/3 innings of relief thrown in between. He pitched seven scoreless innings in a win against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. He gave up two runs over six innings of a no-decision in his only prior start versus Washington on May 6 at home. Irvin, 26, has struggled at home during his rookie season. He is 0-2 with a 7.47 ERA in four starts at Nationals Park. In his last outing, last Tuesday at Los Angeles, he allowed four runs on eight hits over five innings and took the loss. On the plus side, after walking four batters in each of his past two starts, he walked just one against the Dodgers. |
|||||||
06-06-23 | Royals +152 v. Marlins | Top | 1-6 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 23 m | Show |
Left-hander Jesus Luzardo (4-4, 4.05 ERA) will attempt to make sure that the Marlins don't end up playing down to their competition when he makes his 13th start of the season on Tuesday. In his most recent outing, Luzardo took a loss after allowing five runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings against the San Diego Padres on Thursday. He walked one and fanned eight. Luzardo has made two career appearances against Kansas City, both in relief, and he surrendered five runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. The task of slowing Arraez on Tuesday will fall to Kansas City starter Zack Greinke (1-5, 4.19 ERA). The veteran right-hander has not won a game since May 3, when he beat the Baltimore Orioles with five shutout innings. The Royals are 3-9 this season when Greinke starts, and they have lost the past four times he took the mound. Although Greinke only has one quality start in 12 outings this season, he has a strong track record against the Marlins, going 7-0 with a 3.06 ERA in 13 career appearances (12 starts) against Miami. If Greinke wants to continue his dominance of the Marlins, he will have to lean on a young Kansas City offense that was averaging three runs per game in its past seven contests before putting up six in the opener at Miami. |
|||||||
06-05-23 | Cubs +159 v. Padres | 0-5 | Loss | -100 | 22 h 50 m | Show
Blake Snell allowed three hits and three walks without giving up a run in 6.0 innings as the San Diego Padres lost to the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Wednesday. Snell struck out seven, ending the game with a 4.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP on the season. That was his best this year but we have to see more before backing him consistently again. |
|||||||
06-05-23 | Royals v. Marlins -1.5 | Top | 6-9 | Win | 122 | 19 h 23 m | Show |
Braxton Garrett allowed one run on two hits and one walk in 5.1 innings as the Miami Marlins defeated the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Wednesday. Garrett struck out seven, ending the game with a 4.22 ERA and 1.31 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
06-05-23 | Tigers v. Phillies -1.5 | Top | 3-8 | Win | 100 | 19 h 17 m | Show |
Joey Wentz allowed one run on seven hits and one walk in 4.1 innings as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Wednesday. Wentz struck out five, ending the game with a 7.28 ERA and 1.68 WHIP on the season. We're betting that Wentz reverts back to old form in this one. |
|||||||
06-04-23 | Cubs v. Padres -106 | 7-1 | Loss | -106 | 6 h 48 m | Show
But Melvin knows getting offense every other game is not a winning formula. Which makes Sunday so important as the Padres face Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman (5-4, 2.59 ERA). The Padres will counter with left-hander Ryan Weathers (1-3, 4.28). Stroman, however, is not exactly who the Padres want to face in hopes of getting on an offensive roll. In fact, the 32-year-old has become one of the toughest pitchers in the majors. He not only leads the league with 12 starts, his 0.986 WHIP also ranks No. 1 and opposing batters are hitting .188 against him. In his most recent start, against Tampa Bay on Monday, Stroman shut out the Rays on one hit and one walk with eight strikeouts in a complete game. |
|||||||
06-04-23 | Blue Jays +127 v. Mets | 6-4 | Win | 127 | 2 h 54 m | Show
The ghost forkball is a pitch used by Mets right-hander Kodai Senga (5-3, 3.44 ERA), who will get the start on Sunday. The pitch has accounted for 39 of the 70 strikeouts Senga has in 10 starts this season, according to information provided by the Mets. Senga, who has yet to face the Blue Jays, will oppose left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (6-2, 4.47) on Sunday. Kikuchi has yet to pitch against the Mets in his career. The start on Sunday will be the first for Senga on four days of rest. So far this season he has pitched once a week, which was his routine in his native Japan. Other than his first start this season, Senga has pitched on five days' rest seven times, with six days' rest and eight days' rest one time each. |
|||||||
06-04-23 | Brewers v. Reds UNDER 10 | Top | 5-1 | Win | 100 | 2 h 2 m | Show |
Adrian Houser (1-1, 4.07 ERA) will take the mound for the Brewers on Sunday and will look to bounce back from his first rough outing of the season. The right-hander had not allowed more than three earned runs in his first four starts this season but got tagged for six earned runs in 4 1/3 innings vs. Toronto on Tuesday, picking up the loss. For Cincinnati, right-hander Ben Lively (3-2, 1.99) will take the hill. He has struck out 24 in 22 2/3 innings this season. |
|||||||
06-03-23 | Orioles +119 v. Giants | Top | 0-4 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 53 m | Show |
Alex Cobb will seek to continue to torment the Baltimore Orioles -- both as an employee and now as an opponent -- when he gets the ball Saturday night for the host San Francisco Giants in the second game of the clubs' three-game interleague series. Cobb (4-2, 3.05 ERA) will try to get the Giants even in the series when makes his 14th career start against Baltimore, sandwiching a three-year stint in which he started 41 games as a member of the Orioles. Coincidentally, his opposing pitcher Saturday -- Orioles righty Kyle Bradish (2-1, 3.89) -- had a similar experience when he pitched against the team that drafted him on May 17. He responded with an impressive effort at home against the Angels, allowing just one run in 6 2/3 innings of a 3-1 win. |
|||||||
06-03-23 | Yankees v. Dodgers +101 | 6-3 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 7 m | Show
In the midst of an impressive start to the season, New York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole has not been at his best of late. He hopes to reverse that trend on Saturday in Los Angeles against the heavy-hitting Dodgers. Cole (6-0, 2.93 ERA) has not lost a game this season in 12 starts, but his ERA has gained nearly a full point over his past two outings when he gave up five earned runs against both the Baltimore Orioles and the San Diego Padres. However, Cole received 16 runs of support from his offense in those two appearances as New York won both games. He has served up eight home runs in his past five starts after not giving up any over his first seven outings. Rookie Michael Grove is expected to return from the injured list to start for the Dodgers on Saturday. Grove (0-1, 8.44 ERA) has been out since April 21 with a strained right groin. The 26-year-old right-hander has made four starts this year, including only one real clunker, when he gave up nine runs on 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 9. It will be just the 11th career start for Grove and first against the Yankees. Grove's outing comes a day after his teammate, Clayton Kershaw, matched a season high with nine strikeouts while earning the win. Grove will face a Yankees lineup that received an influx of talent Friday when Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton came off the injured list following hamstring issues. They had combined for just 18 games earlier this season. |
|||||||
06-03-23 | Cardinals v. Pirates +1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 1 m | Show |
On Saturday, St. Louis left-hander Jordan Montgomery (2-6, 4.48 ERA) and Pittsburgh right-hander Luis L. Ortiz (1-2, 4.35) are expected to start. Montgomery is tied for the team lead with five quality starts but is 0-6 with a 5.03 ERA over his past nine starts. Most recently, Montgomery allowed two runs in five-plus innings against the Cleveland Guardians in a no-decision on Sunday. Ortiz, who lost his first two starts of the season, picked up his first major league win on May 22 against the Texas Rangers, then followed with a no-decision his last time out, on Sunday at Seattle. Against the Mariners, Ortiz gave up three runs on five hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out six. Ortiz has faced the Cardinals once, when he gave up six runs in two-thirds of an inning and took a loss on Oct. 1, 2022. Saturday will be a rematch, as Montgomery started got the win in that contest after allowing two runs in six innings. |

06-02-23 | Cubs v. Padres -152 | 2-1 | Loss | -152 | 10 h 19 m | Show
However, Friday night's pitching matchup -- San Diego's Michael Wacha (5-1, 3.45 ERA) vs. Chicago's Jameson Taillon (0-3, 8.04) -- favors the Padres if the May results carry over into the first June outing for the 31-year-old right-handers. Wacha was 3-0 in five May starts with an 0.84 ERA and an 0.72 WHIP in 32 innings. The Padres were 3-2 in Wacha's May starts (scoring a total of three runs in the two losses) and are 7-3 overall when he has started in 2023. Taillon was 0-1 in five May starts with a 10.90 ERA and a 1.96 WHIP in 17 1/3 innings. The Cubs were 0-5 in Taillon's May starts and are 0-8 when he starts a game this season. However, the Cubs are no strangers to Wacha, who spent his first seven seasons with the rival St. Louis Cardinals. Wacha has a 4-8 career record against the Cubs with a 6.45 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP in 21 games (19 starts). Wacha started the game the Padres won in Chicago on April 26, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings. Taillon, who did not face the Padres earlier this season, has a 1-0 career record against the Padres with a 2.37 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in three career starts. However, he has not faced the Padres since 2018. |
|||||||
06-02-23 | Phillies v. Nationals UNDER 9 | Top | 7-8 | Loss | -113 | 8 h 40 m | Show |
The Phillies will give the ball to right-hander Zack Wheeler (4-4, 3.60 ERA) hoping that he can have a repeat of his last start. In that game, he shut out the Atlanta Braves for eight innings while striking out 12. That turned out to be Wheeler's only victory in May. He has three of his pitching triumphs this year in road games. Right-hander Josiah Gray (4-5, 2.77) will be the starter for the Nationals. His shortest outing of the season came in his most recent start: He lasted four innings, giving up two runs in a no-decision at Kansas City. Gray threw 91 pitches in that start. Control has been a snag for him; he walked 18 in 28 innings in May. |

06-02-23 | A's v. Marlins OVER 8.5 | Top | 0-4 | Loss | -115 | 7 h 23 m | Show |
On Friday, Oakland is scheduled to start rookie left-hander Hogan Harris (0-0, 10.13 ERA). Harris, 26, was a third-round pick by Oakland in 2018. He made his major league debut on April 14, recording one out and yielding six runs against the New York Mets. He returned to the majors on Saturday, when he tossed five scoreless relief innings against the Houston Astros. He is set to make the first start of his career on Friday. To try and keep the Athletics' lackluster offense in check, the Marlins will start right-hander Edward Cabrera (3-4, 5.02 ERA) on Friday. Cabrera has faced the A's just once in his career, and it was the best performance of his 32 major league starts. Last Aug. 22, Cabrera pitched eight scoreless innings as Miami beat Oakland 3-0. He struck out seven and allowed just two hits and three walks. Overall for his career, Cabrera, 25, is 9-11 with a 4.20 ERA. |

06-01-23 | Angels v. Astros -178 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 3 m | Show
Reid Detmers (0-4, 4.93 ERA) will start the series opener for the Angels. He took a loss in his most recent outing after allowing three runs on 10 hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five-plus innings in a 6-2 setback to the Miami Marlins on Friday. The 23-year-old left-hander has allowed three earned runs or less in seven of his nine starts and has yielded two earned runs four times. Detmers is 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in four career starts against the Astros, having struck out 21 in 20 1/3 innings. In three starts against Houston last season, he finished 0-1 with a 5.02 ERA. While the Astros did not announce a starter for the series opener, Framber Valdez (5-4, 2.38 ERA) would be working on regular rest. He earned a 6-3 win against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday after allowing one run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts over six innings. Valdez has surrendered one run or no runs in three of his past four starts, all victories. The 29-year-old left-hander is 8-4 with a 3.73 ERA over 16 career appearances (12 starts) against the Angels. He faced them on May 9, when he allowed one run on three hits and no walks while recording a season-high 12 strikeouts over eight innings in a 3-1 road victory. |

On Thursday, Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (4-3, 3.67 ERA) will go up against San Diego right-hander Joe Musgrove (2-2, 5.64). Luzardo has yet to beat the Padres, going 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA in two starts. In 23 career starts at Miami, Luzardo is 7-8 with a 4.29 ERA. |||||||
06-01-23 | Brewers v. Blue Jays UNDER 8.5 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 3 h 5 m | Show |
The Blue Jays are scheduled to start right-hander Kevin Gausman (3-3, 3.03 ERA) on Thursday. In five career games (three starts) against the Brewers, he is 1-0 with a 2.05 ERA. Right-hander Freddy Peralta (5-4, 4.64 ERA) is slated to start for the Brewers. He has never faced the Blue Jays. The loss on Wednesday was a return to reality for the Blue Jays hitters, who have been scuffling as a group recently. They had 14 hits in a 7-2 win on Tuesday, but 13 were singles and not all were hit hard. The Blue Jays had seven hits on Wednesday, including two doubles from Matt Chapman. Kevin Kiermaier, who left the Saturday game after two innings due to a sore back, returned to the lineup on Wednesday and contributed an RBI triple. Toronto, however, went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position, extending a recurring problem. |
|||||||
05-31-23 | Yankees v. Mariners -1.5 | Top | 0-1 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 43 m | Show |
The Yankees will try to sweep the three-game series Wednesday night when they send Clarke Schmidt (2-5, 5.58 ERA) to the mound against Seattle's George Kirby (5-4, 3.43) in a matchup of young right-handers. |
|||||||
05-31-23 | Brewers v. Blue Jays OVER 9.5 | 4-2 | Loss | -115 | 8 h 13 m | Show
Right-hander Alek Manoah (1-5, 5.53 ERA) is scheduled to start Wednesday for Toronto. In his only career start against the Brewers, he allowed two runs, five hits and three walks while striking out six in 6 2/3 innings to earn the win last June 24 in Milwaukee. Right-hander Julio Teheran (0-1, 1.80) is scheduled to start Wednesday for Milwaukee. He is 0-1 with a 7.66 ERA in five career starts against Toronto. |
|||||||
05-31-23 | Rays v. Cubs OVER 8.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 31 m | Show |
To get the sweep, the Cubs will hope Justin Steele can rebound from his worst start of the season in the finale of the three-game set Wednesday. Chicago had allowed 35 runs during a four-game losing streak entering this series. Its starters posted an 8.83 ERA during that skid, and a maligned bullpen had an 8.05 ERA over its previous 50 1/3 innings before Monday. Steele (6-2, 2.77 ERA) went 5-0 with a 1.45 ERA in his first seven starts but is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in four since. The left-hander allowed season highs for runs (six) and hits (10) over 3 2/3 innings of a 9-0 loss to Cincinnati on Friday. Tampa Bay starter Zach Eflin (7-1, 3.17) is 1-1 with a 5.29 ERA in three road starts but will eye a fourth straight winning decision in this finale. The right-hander allowed six hits and two walks, but only a run, while completing seven innings for a third time in 2023 in a 6-3 home win Thursday against Toronto. |
|||||||
05-30-23 | Rockies v. Diamondbacks -1.5 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 11 m | Show
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen has something in common with Colorado Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland heading into their Tuesday night matchup in Phoenix. Both hurlers bounced back from rare bad starts in their most recent outings and gave their teams a chance to win. Freeland (4-5, 3.86 ERA) limited the Miami Marlins to two runs and seven hits over five innings on Thursday and Colorado went on to win 7-6, though Freeland did not receive a decision. Five days earlier, Freeland lasted just two innings against the Texas Rangers after getting pegged for eight runs (five earned) and nine hits in an 11-5 loss. |
|||||||
05-30-23 | Brewers +1.5 v. Blue Jays | Top | 2-7 | Loss | -149 | 8 h 35 m | Show |
The Toronto Blue Jays hope left-hander Yusei Kikuchi can regain his early-season form Tuesday night against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers in the opener of a three-game series. After going 5-0 with a 3.35 ERA in his first seven starts this season, Kikuchi is 0-2 with a 7.90 ERA in his past three starts. The Blue Jays have won only four of their past 14 games after finishing a three-game series against the host Minnesota Twins with a 3-0 victory on Sunday to complete a 3-4 road trip. Kikuchi (5-2, 4.56) has faced the Brewers once in his career, allowing five runs (two earned) and six hits in two innings during a June outing last season at Milwaukee. The Brewers, first in the National League Central, completed a 3-4 homestand Sunday with a 7-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The Brewers are scheduled to start right-hander Adrian Houser (1-0, 2.25) on Tuesday. In his only career start against the Blue Jays, he allowed five earned runs and nine hits in six innings June 24 at Milwaukee, one day before Kikuchi pitched against the Brewers. The Blue Jays, last in the AL East, were encouraged by taking the three-game series at Minneapolis after losing their three previous series, all against division rivals. |
|||||||
05-30-23 | Guardians +135 v. Orioles | Top | 5-8 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 39 m | Show |
Cleveland right-hander Cal Quantrill (2-3, 4.75 ERA) will try to keep the Orioles out of sorts. Quantrill is coming off his second-shortest outing of the season, a four-inning stint last Wednesday in a 6-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox when he allowed all six runs. Quantrill is 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in four career outings (three starts) against the Orioles. The Guardians have been riding strong defense recently, highlighted by third baseman Gabriel Arias, who has stayed in the lineup despite a .193 batting average. Baltimore will go with right-hander Kyle Gibson (6-3, 3.82 ERA) on Tuesday. He's coming off two sterling performances, including seven shutout innings in Thursday's 3-1 road victory against the New York Yankees. This will mark just the third home outing in a stretch of seven starts for Gibson. He's 3-10 with a 5.59 ERA against Cleveland in 21 all-time appearances (20 starts). The Guardians have won three of their last four games. They'll be aiming for their fourth victory in five games, something they haven't accomplished since the first week of the season. On the road, though, the Guardians were 1-7 in their last eight games before Monday's win. |
|||||||
05-29-23 | Angels v. White Sox UNDER 9 | 6-4 | Loss | -120 | 7 h 17 m | Show
Right-hander Michael Kopech (3-4, 4.24 ERA) will get the call for the White Sox in the first game of a six-game homestand. After pitching to a 7.01 ERA in five April starts, Kopech is 3-1 with a 1.99 ERA through five starts in May. Righty Griffin Canning (3-2, 4.95 ERA) is set to start for the Angels as he seeks to win consecutive starts for the second time this season. Canning pitched seven shutout innings Tuesday to defeat the Boston Red Sox, scattering two hits and three walks while striking out five. Kopech is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA in three career appearances, including one start, against the Angels. Canning won his only previous start against Chicago, pitching seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball with one walk and eight strikeouts on Aug. 18, 2019. |
|||||||
05-29-23 | Twins +1.5 v. Astros | Top | 7-5 | Win | 100 | 3 h 21 m | Show |
Rookie right-hander J.P. France (1-1, 3.43 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Astros on Monday. He took a loss against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday despite notching a career-high eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk. France will make his first career appearance against the Twins. He has held the opposition to one earned run or none in three of his four starts. Right-hander Sonny Gray (4-0, 1.82 ERA) has the starting assignment for the Twins. He leads the majors in ERA, adjusted ERA-plus (236) and fielding independent pitching (2.02), and has yet to surrender a home run over 54 1/3 innings this season. Gray has recorded four consecutive no-decisions while producing 25 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings with a 3.72 ERA during that span. Minnesota dropped all four of the games, including a 4-3 setback to the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday during which Gray allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five-plus innings. Gray is 4-4 with a 2.90 ERA over 11 career starts against the Astros. On April 7, he allowed one run on four hits and one walk vs. Houston while recording a season-high 13 strikeouts over seven innings but did not factor into the decision during the Twins' 3-2, 10-inning home victory. |
|||||||

Gavin Stone allowed five runs on five hits and five walks in 4.0 innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves 8-6 on Monday. Stone struck out one, ending the game with a 10.13 ERA and 2.50 WHIP on the season. We're betting Stone bounces back and the Rays bullpen game is affective. |
|||||||
05-27-23 | Cardinals v. Guardians OVER 8 | 2-1 | Loss | -120 | 7 h 28 m | Show
Right-hander Jack Flaherty (3-4, 5.29 ERA) will take the mound for the Cardinals on Saturday against Guardians impressive rookie Tanner Bibee (1-1, 3.18), who will make the sixth start of his MLB career and first against St. Louis. Flaherty has faced the Guardians twice in his seven-year career. He is 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA and has given up three home runs in nine innings against Cleveland, with both appearances in St. Louis. |
|||||||
05-27-23 | Astros v. A's UNDER 8.5 | 6-3 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 24 m | Show
The A's get no break in Saturday's pitching matchup, with the Astros set to go with left-hander Framber Valdez (4-4, 2.45 ERA), while Oakland is expected to promote fellow lefty Hogan Harris (0-0, 162.00) from Triple-A either to start or follow an opener. Valdez shut out the A's on four hits in a 2-0 home win last Sunday. The shutout was the first of his career and the complete game his third, two of which have come against the A's. He also threw a complete-game two-hitter in Oakland last May 30 in a 5-1 win. The 29-year-old has faced the A's 10 times in his career, eight times as a starter, going 3-3 with a 2.67 ERA. Four of those starts have been in Oakland, where he's gone 1-2 with a 1.47 ERA, his lowest ERA against all opponents he's faced more than once. Harris has pitched well at Triple-A Las Vegas, posting a 3.77 ERA in eight starts while going 0-1. The 26-year-old was promoted earlier in the season and made his major league debut in his one and only appearance, a disastrous eight-batter stint at home against the New York Mets in which he allowed one hit, five walks and a hit batsman. He got just one out while six of the seven baserunners scored. |
|||||||
05-27-23 | White Sox +106 v. Tigers | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 34 m | Show |
Lorenzen (2-2, 4.08 ERA) gave up three home runs in his latest start. The right-hander allowed five runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings to the Kansas City Royals on Monday and wound up with a no-decision as the Tigers won in extra innings. In his three previous outings, Lorenzen gave up a total of two runs in 20 innings. Jesse Scholtens (0-2, 2.25) is slated to make his first major league start for the White Sox. Scholtens pitched five innings of long relief on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians, taking a loss after allowing one run and two hits. He made seven starts for Triple-A Charlotte this season, going 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA. Scholtens made 160 minor league appearances (111 starts) prior to his promotion. He pitched two games in relief for Chicago in April, then returned to the majors ahead of the Monday outing. |
|||||||
05-26-23 | Red Sox v. Diamondbacks OVER 8.5 | 7-2 | Win | 100 | 10 h 6 m | Show
Boston left-hander Chris Sale (4-2, 5.01 ERA) will take the ball Friday for his 10th start of the season. Sale has struck out 62 in 50 1/3 innings but also has served up eight homers. The 34-year-old pitched superbly in his last two outings. He gave up one and three in eight innings in a no-decision against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 13 and then allowed two runs and three hits over seven innings in a victory over the Padres on Saturday. In his last four outings, Sale has 32 strikeouts against three walks in 27 1/3 innings. Longoria is just 6-for-38 with 15 strikeouts in his career against Sale. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is 3-for-18 with one homer. Right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (0-1, 7.65) will make his fifth career start for Arizona. He has served up seven homers in 20 innings. Pfaadt, 24, received a no-decision in his last outing when he gave up three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings against the Pirates. |

The Orioles will give the ball on Friday to rookie Grayson Rodriguez (2-1, 6.21 ERA), who is coming off a solid outing in his latest start. The right-hander gave up two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and a walk in five innings during a no-decision at Toronto on Saturday. Rodriguez, who hasn't lasted more than 5 2/3 innings in an outing, made his major league debut against the Rangers on April 5. He wasn't involved in the decision after yielding two runs on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Texas right-hander Jon Gray (4-1, 3.02), who will start Friday, pitched well against the Orioles the last time he faced them. Gray picked up the loss despite allowing just two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in 6 1/3 innings during a 2-0 setback on April 3. In three career starts vs. Baltimore, Gray is 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA. Gray was sharp on Saturday, allowing just a run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings of an 11-5 win over the visiting Colorado Rockies. |

Left-hander Jalen Beeks (1-2, 4.68 ERA) will look to make sure Tampa Bay continues its home dominance when he serves as Friday's opener. Beeks last pitched on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed one run on one hit with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings. In his lone appearance against the Dodgers, Beeks worked 4 2/3 innings of relief back on May 21, 2019, allowing five runs on eight hits. He walked two and fanned four. Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (1-3, 5.88) will oppose Beeks in search of his first win since April 30. Syndergaard most recently took a no-decision against the St. Louis Cardinals last Saturday after giving up three runs on four hits in five innings. He issued one walk, hit a batter and tallied four strikeouts. In two career starts versus the Rays, Syndergaard is 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA. |

|||||||
05-23-23 | Red Sox -107 v. Angels | Top | 0-4 | Loss | -107 | 12 h 43 m | Show |
Right-hander Griffin Canning will make his seventh start of the season Tuesday night when the Los Angeles Angels face the Boston Red Sox in Anaheim, Calif., but he still is working through the process of returning from a long layoff. Canning (2-2, 6.14 ERA) was a starter for the Angels in 2021 but missed half of that season and all of 2022 with a stress fracture in his back. He did not return until this past April. He's pitched at least five innings in five of his six starts this year but has failed to finish six innings. He has struggled in May, giving up 13 earned runs in 14 innings, but Angels manager Phil Nevin said he sees Canning taking steps in the right direction. Right-hander Brayan Bello (3-1, 4.45 ERA) will make his seventh start of the season for Boston. He is 0-1 with a 16.88 ERA in one career start against the Angels. |
|||||||
05-23-23 | Blue Jays v. Rays -1.5 | 20-1 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 48 m | Show
Tuesday starter Jose Berrios (3-4, 4.61 ERA) has a distinction this season that stands out -- he was the first pitcher to beat Tampa Bay during its torrid start to the new campaign. On April 14, with the Rays riding a 13-game winning streak and seemingly breaking records each and every night, Berrios allowed just one run and four hits in five innings as the Blue Jays handed the visitors a 6-3 defeat for their first setback of 2023. Berrios is 2-4 with a 5.44 ERA in nine career starts against the Rays. Tampa Bay's Taj Bradley (3-0, 3.54) has looked the part as the club's top pitching prospect so far, posting strong numbers and keeping runners off base through four starts. Across 20 1/3 innings, the right-hander has allowed eight runs and 15 hits while striking out 27 and walking just four with a hit batter. His WHIP sits at a crisp 0.934. The Rays received some good news regarding their pitching staff, as the return of former ace Tyler Glasnow is on the horizon. |
|||||||
05-23-23 | Cardinals v. Reds UNDER 10.5 | Top | 8-5 | Loss | -120 | 9 h 54 m | Show |
Adam Wainwright, who is closing in on 200 career victories, faces arguably his least favorite opponent on Tuesday. The 41-year-old veteran will try to reverse his career-long issues vs. the Reds when his St. Louis Cardinals visit Cincinnati in the second contest of a four-game series between the National League Central rivals. Wainwright has 196 career wins but owns a substandard 10-17 record with a 5.46 ERA in 39 appearances (34 starts) against Cincinnati. The ERA is his worst against any NL opponent. In 22 appearances (20 starts) at Great American Ball Park, Wainwright is 7-8 with a 5.73 ERA. He has served up 17 homers there in 114 2/3 innings. Wainwright went 0-2 with a 7.27 ERA in three starts against the Reds last season, including losses in both his starts in Cincinnati. He was highly frustrated after the second one -- a 9-5 setback on July 22 in which he allowed seven runs and five hits over 5 1/3 innings. |
|||||||
05-22-23 | Red Sox v. Angels +1.5 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 13 h 38 m | Show
Right-hander Tanner Houck (3-3, 5.48 ERA) will make his ninth start of the season for the Red Sox. He is 1-1 with a 9.72 ERA in three career games (one start) against the Angels. The Angels are expected to give Jaime Barria (1-1, 1.96) his first start of the season on Monday. He is 0-3 with a 4.73 ERA in four career meetings (two starts) against the Red Sox. The Angels continue to be impressed with shortstop Zach Neto, who was the 13th overall pick in last year's MLB draft but has already ascended to the major league level. He went 1-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Twins and is hitting .250 overall, but his primary value has come on the defensive side. He made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch of a pop fly running from his shortstop position into left field last Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles, drawing comparisons to Ozzie Smith. Neto, though, remains humble. |

05-22-23 | Cardinals v. Reds OVER 10 | Top | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 10 h 43 m | Show |
Jordan Montgomery (2-6, 4.21 ERA), who has lost his past six decisions, takes the mound for the Cardinals Monday. Since winning his first two starts, Montgomery is 0-6 with a 4.36 ERA over his past seven starts. The Cardinals have scored three runs or fewer in four of Montgomery's starts during his skid, including Tuesday when he allowed three runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 3-2 loss to Milwaukee. The left-hander is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two career starts against the Reds. He last faced them Sept. 18 in St. Louis when he allowed three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 3-0 loss. Cincinnati will counter with Brandon Williamson (0-0, 1.59), who is making his second career start. Williamson, wo was acquired from Seattle March 14, 2022, for Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez, allowed one run on two hits in 5 2/3 innings while throwing 72 pitches in a no-decision Tuesday at Colorado. |

05-22-23 | Diamondbacks v. Phillies -197 | Top | 6-3 | Loss | -197 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
Inconsistency has been an issue for scheduled Phillies starter Zack Wheeler (3-3, 4.06 ERA). The right-hander has allowed two or fewer earned runs in four of his nine starts, but also yielded four in four other outings, and completed seven innings just once in 2023. On Tuesday at San Francisco, Wheeler allowed two runs each in the third and fourth innings, plus nine hits, while striking out eight, over six innings of a 4-3 loss. "(Wheeler) pitched better than his line, for sure," Phillies manager Ron Thomson said. Wheeler has been solid while going 5-2 with a 2.95 ERA in nine starts versus Arizona. He yielded just two hits and fanned eight without a walk during a 4-0 home victory over the Diamondbacks last season. Arizona's Christian Walker is 6-for-11 with a homer against Wheeler. The first baseman had two hits with three RBIs during Sunday's 8-3 win at Pittsburgh, and has five with six RBIs in his last five games following a 4-for-28 stretch. |

05-21-23 | Marlins v. Giants -122 | 5-7 | Win | 100 | 5 h 43 m | Show
Lefty Braxton Garrett handcuffed San Francisco on just one hit over 6 1/3 innings to get the shutout rolling, and now the Marlins hope for more of the same from Luzardo (3-2, 3.16). It wasn't long ago that the former third-round pick was one of the brightest prospects in the Oakland organization before Athletics' management decided to use him to acquire Starling Marte, who was seen as the type of offensive force who could deliver the A's a playoff berth in 2021. Oakland failed in that quest, and in the meantime lost Luzardo, who credits the A's and especially three former teammates for the pitcher he's become. One of the hits was a single by catcher Patrick Bailey, who was making his first major-league start after having made his debut -- three innings, no at-bats -- the night before. He singled in his third plate appearance Saturday. If Bailey gets another go on Sunday, it would come as batterymate for another lefty, Alex Wood (0-0, 2.87). The 32-year-old will be continuing to stretch out after missing almost a month bridging April and May with a hamstring injury. After a relief appearance in his return to action, Wood started a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies last Monday, allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings. He will be making his 17th career start against the Marlins. In 19 career meetings overall, he's gone 8-5 with a 2.58 ERA. The eight wins are his most against any opponent, and the 2.58 ERA is his best against anyone he's faced eight or more times. |

05-21-23 | Orioles v. Blue Jays -185 | Top | 8-3 | Loss | -185 | 2 h 10 m | Show |
Right-hander Dean Kremer (5-1, 4.94 ERA) is scheduled to start for Baltimore on Sunday. He is 1-3 with a 5.77 ERA in seven career outings (six starts) against the Blue Jays. Right-hander Kevin Gausman (2-3, 3.27) is slated to start for Toronto. He is 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA in two career starts against his former team. The victory on Saturday could be the highlight of a strong Orioles start to the season. They are 30-16 overall and have won seven of their past 10 games. |

05-21-23 | Diamondbacks -120 v. Pirates | Top | 8-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 18 m | Show |
In the series finale, Arizona right-hander Merrill Kelly (4-3, 2.92 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Pittsburgh right-hander Roansy Contreras (3-4, 4.40). Kelly is 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in his past four starts. In last Monday's outing against Oakland, Kelly did something he had never done before -- got ejected. Kelly got tossed shortly after being lifted in the eighth inning following an ejection of Arizona manager Torey Lovullo. Both were arguing about a check swing that was called a strike. |

05-20-23 | Red Sox +1.5 v. Padres | Top | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 11 h 13 m | Show |
Chris Sale is back. And the Boston Red Sox hope it stays that way. In his most recent start, the oft-injured left-hander held the St. Louis Cardinals to one run on three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over eight innings at Fenway Park last Saturday. It marked the third time in his past five starts that Sale allowed only one run in an outing, although he walked away with a no-decision. Over those five starts, Sale has given up 11 runs on 25 hits and five walks with 35 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings for a 3.16 ERA. Sale is 2-1 in those starts, and the Red Sox are 3-2. Overall, Boston is 5-3 in Sale's eight starts this season -- which is only three starts less than his total over the past three seasons. Now, Sale (3-2, 5.40 ERA) will make his ninth start of 2023 on Saturday night in San Diego against Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove (1-1, 6.63). |

05-20-23 | Mariners +135 v. Braves | 7-3 | Win | 135 | 8 h 20 m | Show
Marcell Ozuna will try to continue his offensive resurgence on Saturday when the Atlanta Braves host the visiting Seattle Mariners in the second contest of their three-game series. Ozuna caught the ire of the Atlanta fans with his slow start; he was hitting .073 on April 24. But he's back in their good graces after going 2-for-4 with three RBIs to help the Braves record a 6-2 win in the series opener on Friday. Ozuna has lifted his average to .189 with eight homers and 17 RBIs. He is batting .333 during his six-game hitting streak and .319 this month. "He's had some good at-bats and he's making good decisions," Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. "You have to weather those storms. I like him up there right now." Ozuna will look to stay hot on Saturday against Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (1-2, 3.91 ERA). Atlanta, in turn, will use a bullpen game with right-hander Jesse Chavez (0-0, 2.50) acting as the opener. Gilbert will be making his ninth start of the season and is seeking his first win since April 12. In his most recent start on Sunday at Detroit, he pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on six hits, one walk and four strikeouts. He has not allowed a homer in his past three starts. He took a no-decision in the 5-3 loss to the Tigers. |

05-20-23 | Cubs +1.5 v. Phillies | Top | 3-12 | Loss | -140 | 5 h 15 m | Show |
Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon expects to be around for the long haul when he takes the mound against the host Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of a three-game series on Saturday. Pitching deep into games has eluded the right-hander through six starts this season, however. Taillon (0-2, 6.66 ERA) went deep into starts fairly regularly for the New York Yankees last season, pitching at least six innings in 13 of 32 starts, helping him finish 14-5 with a 3.91 ERA. The 31-year-old veteran threw five shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 15, matching his longest outing of the year, and appeared to be ramping up for an even longer outing. However, he went on the injured list with a groin injury shortly afterward. After missing nearly three weeks, Taillon has thrown a combined 10 1/3 innings over his past three starts, posting a 9.58 ERA in that span. Aaron Nola (3-3, 4.53 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Philadelphia. The 29-year-old right-hander allowed four runs and six hits over seven innings in his latest outing but did not receive any run support in a 4-0 loss the Colorado Rockies on Sunday in Denver. The defeat prevented Philadelphia from recording its first sweep of a series longer than two games this season. |

05-19-23 | Red Sox v. Padres OVER 8 | 6-1 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 11 m | Show
The series starts Friday night with a match of left-handers -- Boston's James Paxton (0-0, 3.60 ERA) against the Padres' Blake Snell (1-5, 4.61). Paxton will be making just his second start for the Red Sox since Boston signed him as a free agent on Dec. 1, 2021. Paxton, 34, had Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery in 2022. He made his Red Sox debut last Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in five innings. |
|||||||
05-19-23 | Orioles v. Blue Jays OVER 9 | Top | 6-2 | Loss | -120 | 10 h 34 m | Show |
Toronto is scheduled to start left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (5-0, 3.89 ERA) in the series opener. He faced the Orioles six times last season (three starts), going 2-3 with an 8.10 ERA. In 8 career games (five starts), he is 3-4 with a 6.37 ERA. Right-hander Kyle Gibson (4-3, 4.67) is slated to start for Baltimore on Friday. He is 5-2 with a 4.81 ERA in 11 career starts against Toronto. |
|||||||
05-19-23 | Cubs v. Phillies -117 | Top | 10-1 | Loss | -117 | 10 h 39 m | Show |
Scheduled Cubs starter Marcus Stroman (2-4, 3.24 ERA) was 2-1 with an 0.75 ERA in his first four starts, but 0-3 with a 5.54 ERA in the last five. The right-hander yielded season-highs of six runs and seven hits in just 2 2/3 innings of Sunday's 16-3 loss to the Twins. Philadelphia's Ranger Suarez (0-0, 6.75 ERA) is slated to make his second 2023 start after returning from a strained left elbow to allow three runs, seven hits, and strike out four in four innings of Saturday's 7-4 win at Colorado. The left-hander is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts against the Cubs. |
|||||||
05-18-23 | Dodgers v. Cardinals +145 | 8-16 | Win | 145 | 10 h 53 m | Show
Los Angeles will start Julio Urias (5-3, 3.61 ERA) in the series opener. He is 2-0 with 17 strikeouts, just two walks and a 2.29 ERA in three May starts. Urias earned a 4-2 victory over San Diego on Saturday in his latest start, holding the Padres to three hits and two runs in seven innings. Of the 22 runs he has allowed this season, opponents scored nine in the first inning (9.72 ERA). Against the Padres, he allowed Juan Soto's opening-inning solo homer, then settled in. Wainwright (0-0, 7.20) will face the Dodgers on Thursday in his third start of the season after recovering from a groin muscle strain sustained while training with Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. He has allowed four runs while lasting five innings in each of his starts after coming off of the injured list. The Cardinals won his last outing 8-6 in Boston on Friday. Wainwright is 7-6 with a 2.79 ERA in 19 career appearances against the Dodgers, including 16 starts. |
|||||||
05-18-23 | Guardians v. White Sox -135 | Top | 3-1 | Loss | -135 | 4 h 21 m | Show |
Cleveland will turn to rookie left-hander Logan Allen (1-1, 3.43 ERA) as it tries to salvage the finale. Thursday marks Allen's fifth start since making his major league debut April 23. The 24-year-old has 24 strikeouts in 21 innings. In his most recent start Friday, Allen fanned Los Angeles Angels stars Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout in the same inning. Chicago starter Dylan Cease (2-2, 4.86) tries for his first victory since April 10, a span of six starts. Cease rebounded from a rough outing at Kansas City on May 8 with Saturday's no-decision against Houston, when he scattered four hits, two walks and five strikeouts in six shutout innings. Cease is 4-3 with a 3.74 ERA in nine career starts against Cleveland, with 46 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings. |
|||||||
05-18-23 | Nationals +140 v. Marlins | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 13 m | Show |
Right-hander Trevor Williams, who is on his fourth team in four years, is set to start for the Washington Nationals against the host Miami Marlins in the series finale on Thursday afternoon. Washington will be looking to avoid a three-game sweep. Williams, a 31-year-old native of San Diego, was Miami's second-round pick in 2013 out of Arizona State. However, the Marlins traded him to the Pirates in 2015. He made his MLB debut with the Pirates one year later. In nine career appearances against the Marlins, including four starts, Williams is 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA. Last year, lefty batters hit .319 against Williams. Righty hitters hit just .209 against him. This year, his splits have narrowed -- .242 by right-handed batters and .296 by lefty hitters. Perez (0-0, 3.86 ERA) made his MLB debut last Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds, striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings. A consensus top-10 MLB prospect, Perez left with a no-decision after allowing four hits, two walks and two runs. |

05-17-23 | Yankees -108 v. Blue Jays | 0-3 | Loss | -108 | 9 h 28 m | Show
Thanks to three homers from Aaron Judge, the visiting New York Yankees have won the first two games of a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The set will resume Wednesday night with Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (5-0, 2.22 ERA) due to oppose Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt (5-2, 3.49). Cole is 6-2 with a 3.48 ERA in 13 career starts against Toronto. He faced the Blue Jays on April 22 in New York and fired 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Bassitt has opposed the Yankees just once, getting a no-decision for the Oakland A's on June 19, 2021, after allowing two runs in six innings. |
|||||||
05-17-23 | Diamondbacks -1.5 v. A's | Top | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 55 m | Show |
Having won 5-2 on Monday night and seeking a second consecutive series win, Arizona will send right-hander Ryne Nelson (1-2, 6.20 ERA) to the hill to oppose Oakland righty Luis Medina (0-2, 8.18). Neither has ever faced his Wednesday opponent. Nelson pitched a team win -- he didn't get a decision -- for just the second time this season when he went 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs, as Arizona beat the San Francisco Giants 7-5 on Friday. Medina will be making his third major league start in hopes he can improve as much between his second and third as he did between his first and second. After serving up eight runs (seven earned) in five innings during an 11-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels in his debut, the 24-year-old limited the Rangers to three runs over six innings in a 4-0 home loss on Thursday. He walked three and gave up two homers against the Angels, then walked nobody and got bashed for just one homer against the Rangers. |
|||||||
05-17-23 | Twins v. Dodgers -134 | Top | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 6 h 35 m | Show |
After he tore through the American League over his first seven starts, Minnesota right-hander Sonny Gray, MLB's ERA leader, will face a National League team for his second consecutive outing as the Twins square off against the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon. Gray had a 1.35 ERA through seven starts then gave up one run over 5 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts Friday against the Chicago Cubs. Despite holding his opponent in check, Gray finished with a no-decision and his ERA even went up a tick, to 1.39. He has a 4-0 record. After the Twins lost that game 6-2, the concern was all about a sluggish offense. But the bats immediately came alive with 17 runs in the next two games against the Cubs and 13 in the first two games of the current series against the Dodgers. The output was just as Gray predicted. The Dodgers will send right-hander Dustin May to the mound in the finale of a six-game homestand. May (4-1, 2.68) is coming off his second-longest outing of the season when he went 6 2/3 innings against the San Diego Padres on Friday. |
|||||||
05-16-23 | Royals v. Padres UNDER 9 | 5-4 | Push | 0 | 12 h 3 m | Show
Tuesday's second game of the series will be a matchup of right-handers: the Royals' Brady Singer (2-4, 7.71 ERA) against the Padres' Seth Lugo (3-2, 3.18). Both Singer and Lugo have pitched 39 2/3 innings this season. Singer will face the Padres for the first time in his career. Lugo picked up a save in his only appearance against the Royals, when he tossed a perfect inning for the New York Mets in 2019. Singer, 26, is coming off one of his best starts of the season. He limited the visiting Chicago White Sox to one run on five hits in six innings during a no-decision on Thursday. He has something of an all-or-nothing pattern this year: In his eight starts, he has yielded one run three times but has given up five or more runs five times. Lugo, 33, is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA through two starts this month. He has held the opposition to two runs or less in five of his seven starts this year. |
|||||||
05-16-23 | Yankees +1.5 v. Blue Jays | Top | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 27 m | Show |
Right-hander Kevin Gausman (2-3, 3.38 ERA) will start for the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Gausman is 9-7 with a 3.32 ERA in 28 career appearances (22 starts) against the Yankees. Gausman will be opposed by fellow right-hander Domingo German (2-3, 4.00), who is 2-5 with a 4.11 ERA in eight career appearances (six starts) against the Blue Jays. |
|||||||
05-16-23 | Pirates v. Tigers -1.5 | Top | 0-4 | Win | 165 | 9 h 7 m | Show |
Michael Lorenzen will start the first game of the series before ace Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound on Wednesday afternoon. Rodriguez has allowed just two runs in his last six outings. Lorenzen (1-2, 4.18 ERA), signed to a one-year contract as a free agent during the offseason, has delivered two stellar performances this month after an uneven start. He limited both the New York Mets and Cleveland Guardians to one run in seven innings, although he was a hard-luck loser against the Guardians on Tuesday in a 2-0 defeat. Lorenzen relied on a changeup to set up his other pitches, throwing 25 of them among his 98 pitches. Pirates right-hander Luis Ortiz (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will make his second start of the season. He gave up five runs and seven hits in five innings against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, but only two of the runs were earned. The Rockies benefitted from a throwing error as well as a fielder's choice that could have resulted in an inning-ending double play. |
|||||||
05-15-23 | Phillies -102 v. Giants | Top | 3-6 | Loss | -102 | 12 h 59 m | Show |
Philadelphia will hand the ball to left-hander Bailey Falter (0-6, 5.75 ERA) in the series opener. In Falter's last start -- against the Boston Red Sox -- he gave up six hits and five runs in 3 2/3 innings. Falter was perfect through three innings and then faced nine batters in the fourth. Alex Wood (0-0, 2.45) is scheduled to start for the Giants on Monday. Wood is 3-3 with a 3.79 ERA in 15 career appearances (10 starts) against Philadelphia. |
|||||||
05-15-23 | Brewers -1.5 v. Cardinals | 1-18 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 54 m | Show
St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol promoted Andrew Knizner to starting catcher and relegated Contreras to designated hitter after the Cardinals suffered an 11-7 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on May 4. But Marmol will have Contreras catch Jack Flaherty (2-4, 6.18 ERA) against the Brewers at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals have won six of their last seven after a 10-24 start, while the Brewers are coming off a three-game home sweep of the Kansas City Royals. Since his demotion, Contreras has worked with the pitching staff on game planning and pitch calling. Freddy Peralta (4-2, 3.32 ERA) will draw Monday's start for the Brewers. He brings a string of three straight quality starts into this game, including his 9-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last start. "I've been able to make pitches in situations that I have to do it," Peralta said after that victory. "When I have runners in scoring positions, I've been able to make adjustments. It's working right now." On April 9, Peralta earned a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals while holding them to one run on four hits in six innings. He is 3-4 with a 5.94 ERA in 13 career appearances against them, including nine starts. |
|||||||
05-15-23 | Yankees v. Blue Jays UNDER 9.5 | Top | 7-4 | Loss | -120 | 9 h 27 m | Show |
The Toronto Blue Jays hope right-hander Alek Manoah will continue to have success against the visiting New York Yankees when the American League East rivals open a four-game series on Monday night. Manoah (1-3, 4.83 ERA) is 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in seven career starts against the Yankees. In his most recent outing against New York, Manoah took a no-decision after allowing just two hits in seven scoreless innings on April 22. He walked one and struck out five. The Yankees have not yet announced who will oppose Manoah. |
|||||||
05-14-23 | Rangers v. A's +1.5 | 11-3 | Loss | -130 | 12 h 14 m | Show
The Rangers are still just 17-35 in Oakland. Willing to take a shot with the A's but we need the insurance. |
|||||||
05-14-23 | Rays -115 v. Yankees | Top | 8-7 | Win | 100 | 10 h 45 m | Show |
Clarke Schmidt (1-3, 5.35 ERA), who is coming off his first career win as a starting pitcher, goes for the Yankees. Schmidt is 1-6 with a 5.20 ERA in 13 career starts and allowed two runs on five hits in a career-high six innings in Tuesday's 10-5 win over Oakland. Schmidt has lasted at least five innings in three of his last four starts after not doing so in his first four outings. Schmidt is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in six career games (two starts) against the Rays and took the loss in his last start against them by allowing two runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings of a 2-1 setback on Sept. 3, 2022. Zach Elfin (4-1, 2.91), who is coming off his first loss as a Ray, will oppose Schmidt on Sunday. Elfin won his first four decisions before allowing a season-high four runs on seven hits in six innings during a 4-2 loss at Baltimore on Tuesday. Elfin is facing the Yankees for the third time in his career and has yet to allow an earned run in 11 innings. He last faced the Yankees on Aug. 6, 2020, as a member of the Phillies. He allowed two unearned runs on four hits in four innings while taking a no-decision. |
|||||||
05-14-23 | Pirates +117 v. Orioles | Top | 4-0 | Win | 117 | 10 h 39 m | Show |
The Orioles will look to complete the sweep behind right-hander Kyle Gibson (4-2, 4.40 ERA). Gibson was solid in his last outing, allowing just two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six innings in a 3-0 loss to the Rays on Monday. Gibson went 2-0 with a 2.75 ERA in three starts over the previous two seasons against the Pirates as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Pirates will counter with right-hander Mitch Keller (4-1, 2.72), who pitched a four-hit shutout against the Colorado Rockies in Pittsburgh's 2-0 win Monday. He had eight strikeouts against just one walk. Keller's first complete game shutout was the first by a Pirate since Jameson Taillon's in April 2018. But the Pirates haven't won since Keller's masterpiece. Keller has faced the Orioles just once, allowing a run on eight hits in six innings in a 1-0 loss last August. |
|||||||
05-13-23 | Royals v. Brewers -151 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 43 m | Show |
The visiting Kansas City Royals hope veteran Zack Greinke can trade his recent road struggles for some old Milwaukee magic when they face the Brewers on Saturday night. Greinke (1-4, 5.18 ERA) will be opposed by fellow right-hander Adrian Houser (0-0, 3.86), who will make his second major-league start of the season after four minor-league rehab starts. Milwaukee took the series opener 5-1 on Friday behind Corbin Burnes, who allowed just two singles over six scoreless innings. He walked four, but the Royals couldn't capitalize. |
|||||||
05-13-23 | Rangers v. A's +126 | 5-0 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 45 m | Show
With one swing of the bat, the A's will look to build on a rare air of momentum while trying to duplicate one of their few positives from earlier in the season. That was when Saturday's scheduled starters -- A's left-hander JP Sears (0-3, 5.54 ERA) and Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (2-1, 3.82) -- matched up in the opener of a three-game set in Texas on April 21. Oakland also won that game in dramatic fashion, getting a tie-breaking home run from Jordan Diaz, the first long ball of his major league career, in the ninth inning for a 5-4 win. Sears struck out a career-high 11 that day -- including Marcus Semien, Robbie Grossman and Josh Jung twice apiece -- but only after allowing a four-run first inning that featured a three-run homer by Jonah Heim. Sears threw five shutout innings after the first and did not get a decision. In fact, he remains winless in his past nine outings (eight starts) dating to last season. The 27-year-old has made three starts against the Rangers in his two-year career, going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA. Gray allowed the first four of Oakland's five runs, one unearned, in 5 1/3 innings. Tony Kemp homered off Gray, but it was Rangers closer Will Smith who served up the difference-making blast to Diaz, who was pinch-hitting for Ryan Noda. Gray, 31, is 1-1 with a 5.66 ERA in four lifetime starts vs. Oakland. |
|||||||
05-13-23 | Reds v. Marlins -1.5 | Top | 6-5 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 51 m | Show |
Miami Marlins ace right-hander Sandy Alcantara will be operating on five days of rest when he faces the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Saturday. That's important because in 48 career starts with five days of rest, Alcantara has a 3.41 ERA. But in 51 career starts on four days of rest, Alcantara's ERA is significantly better at 3.00. This year, the difference is much greater, even though it's a small sample size. In two starts with four days of rest, Alcantara is 1-0 with a sterling 1.04 ERA, pitching similarly to how he did last year when he was named the National League's Cy Young Award winner. However, in three starts with five days of rest, Alcantara is 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA. Against the Reds, Alcantara is 2-2 with a 2.03 ERA in six appearances, including four starts. In seven starts this season, he is 1-3 with a 4.53 ERA, with the lone win coming April 4. He is winless in his past five starts, but in his most recent outing, he allowed just two runs in 8 1/3 innings against the Cubs. Alcantara got a no-decision, but the Marlins went on to win 5-4 in 14 innings. |
|||||||
05-12-23 | Rangers -159 v. A's | Top | 7-9 | Loss | -159 | 10 h 45 m | Show |
Texas left-hander Martin Perez (4-1, 3.86 ERA) will try to keep the good times rolling even though he is coming off his worst performance of the season -- seven runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. However, only his stats were negatively affected as the Rangers powered to a 16-8 win. Perez pitched much better -- one run in six innings -- but likewise got more than ample offensive support in a 15-2 win over the New York Yankees in his previous start. The 32-year-old veteran owns a 9-7 record with a 4.46 ERA in 22 games (21 starts) vs. Oakland. The A's have lost five in a row, but they turn to a good-luck charm of sorts when left-hander Ken Waldichuk (1-2, 7.25 ERA) gets the start in the rematch. The 25-year-old has started four wins in his last five outings even though he allowed 15 runs over 27 1/3 innings in those games (4.94 ERA). Oakland has won his past three starts 11-10 and 5-4 twice. The second-year major-leaguer faced the Rangers in his third big-league start last September, and he allowed five runs in five innings during a no-decision. |

05-12-23 | Rays v. Yankees -1.5 | 5-6 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 7 m | Show
Cole (5-0, 2.09 ERA) saw his ERA climb from 1.35 on Sunday when he allowed season highs of six runs, five earned runs and eight hits in a season-low five-plus innings against Tampa Bay. Cole also served up his first two homers of the season when Jose Siri hit a solo homer in the fifth inning and Christian Bethancourt slugged a three-run shot in the sixth -- hits that helped the Rays eventually get an 8-7 win on a single by Isaac Paredes in the 10th. "That's awful," Cole said Sunday. "I've got to find a way to do a better job to get us out of there and get us a little bit deeper and prevent the runs. Cole is 2-7 with a 3.80 ERA in 16 career starts against the Rays, who have homered 12 times in 97 innings against him to counter their .218 batting average and .645 OPS in their encounters with him. Tampa Bay will use an opener, with right-hander Trevor Kelley (0-1, 9.00 ERA) expected to make the start. The bulk reliever might be Josh Fleming (0-0, 4.55 ERA), who allowed six runs in five innings against the Yankees on Sunday. |

05-12-23 | Mets v. Nationals OVER 8.5 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -120 | 7 h 13 m | Show |
Left-hander MacKenzie Gore (3-2, 3.65 ERA) will start for the Nationals on Friday night. He has gone six innings in three of his last four starts, averaging 7.5 strikeouts in those four outings. Gore got the win against the Mets on April 26, going six innings and allowing one run. Washington won 4-1 with Gore striking out 10 and relievers upping the staff's strikeout total to 15. Combined with Gray logging seven innings Wednesday and Thursday's day off, Washington's pitching should be in good shape for this series. Nationals starters have lasted at least six innings in the past three games. "It's about pounding the strike zone and not giving any free passes," Martinez said. The Mets have right-hander Tylor Megill (3-2, 4.33) slated as their starter. He has failed to complete five innings in two of his last three starts. Those have been hindered by control issues as he has yielded seven walks with 10 strikeouts across those stints. Megill has faced the Nationals five times across the previous two seasons, notching a 2-2 record with 6.52 ERA. |
