09-26-23 | Astros v. Mariners -140 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 19 h 57 m | Show
The Tuesday game is scheduled to feature a matchup of right-handers, Houston's Cristian Javier (9-4, 4.64 ERA) and Seattle's George Kirby (11-10, 3.58). Javier is 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA over his past five starts. He didn't get a decision on Wednesday in the Astros' 2-1 victory against visiting the Baltimore Orioles despite giving up just one run on three hits over five innings. He issued two walks and logged a season-high-tying 11 strikeouts. Javier is 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA in eight career appearances (five starts) against the Mariners. He pitched well but didn't get a decision on May 5 in Seattle in his only meeting with the Mariners this season. Javier went seven innings and allowed three runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in the Astros' 6-4 victory. Kirby earned his first victory since Aug. 5 with a 6-3 decision on Wednesday at Oakland. He gave up three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. Kirby is 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA in two career starts against the Astros. He beat them 5-1 on July 6 in Houston with 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball. |

09-26-23 | Cubs v. Braves -130 | Top | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 16 h 8 m | Show |
The pitching matchup in the series opener features Atlanta right-hander Bryce Elder (12-4, 3.63) against Chicago lefty Justin Steele (16-5, 3.00). Each one is coming off a shaky appearance. Elder lasted only 3 2/3 innings in his last start on Wednesday against Philadelphia. He allowed four runs on three hits, two of them homers, and walked a season-high five with no strikeouts. Elder bounces back in this one. |

09-25-23 | Padres v. Giants +115 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 115 | 5 h 23 m | Show |
Each team will have its ace going in the series opener, with Padres left-hander Blake Snell (14-9, 2.33 ERA) opposing Giants righty Logan Webb (10-13, 3.35). Snell has more at stake this week than just a longshot's bid for the playoffs. He has pitched himself into the thick of the NL Cy Young Award race by going unbeaten in his last five starts, running off four straight wins with a 0.56 ERA. He hasn't allowed a run in either of his last two outings, shutting out the Dodgers on one hit over six innings, then throwing no-hit ball over seven innings against the Colorado Rockies last Tuesday. The 30-year-old has dominated the Giants in two previous matchups this season, allowing no runs and a total of six hits over 12 innings in 10-0 and 6-1 wins. He struck out 19 in those games. He's 5-1 with a 1.83 ERA in eight career starts against the Giants. Webb has yet to face the Padres this season, leaving his career mark against them at 2-2 with a 2.77 ERA in nine head-to-heads, including eight starts. The 26-year-old is coming off a 7-1 loss at Arizona last Wednesday in which he allowed three runs and nine hits in six innings. |
|||||||
09-25-23 | Astros v. Mariners -122 | 5-1 | Loss | -122 | 5 h 21 m | Show
Monday's series opener features a heavyweight matchup of right-handers, with Houston's Justin Verlander (11-8, 3.44 ERA) set to go up against Seattle's Luis Castillo (14-7, 3.06). Verlander, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, is 5-3 in nine starts with the Astros since being re-acquired from the New York Mets at the trade deadline. He's 21-10 with a 3.09 ERA in 37 career starts against Seattle. Castillo has won his past eight decisions, including a 7-2 victory at Oakland last Tuesday when he allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings, with eight strikeouts. Castillo is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in three previous starts against the Astros. He beat them 10-1 on July 7 in Houston, allowing one unearned run over seven innings. |
|||||||
09-25-23 | Rangers -177 v. Angels | Top | 5-1 | Win | 100 | 5 h 25 m | Show |
The Texas Rangers' magic number is five to earn their first playoff berth since 2016 as they begin a season-ending seven-game road trip on Monday night in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels. Texas (87-68) holds a 2 1/2-game lead over slumping Houston (85-71) in the American League West and is three games in front of Seattle (84-71) after sweeping the Mariners over the weekend in Arlington. The three teams, along with Toronto (87-69), are also in a battle for the three American League wild-card playoff spots. After playing three games with the fourth-place Angels (70-86), who are 2-9 in their last 11 games, the Rangers finish with a four-game series at Seattle that could have major playoff implications. The Mariners, who are 1-8 against the Rangers this season, begin a three-game make-it-or-break-it series with the Astros on Monday in Seattle. With the head-to-head tiebreaker already in hand against Seattle, Texas would seem to be in good shape heading into the final week of the regular season. |
|||||||
09-24-23 | Giants v. Dodgers -1.5 | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 51 m | Show
Lynn (12-11, 5.92 ERA) will get the start for the Dodgers on Sunday, looking to steady himself in what is expected to be his next-to-last outing of the regular season. Lynn gave up a combined five runs over 12 innings of his past two starts, both wins. The real victory, though, might have been that Lynn gave up just one home run in each outing after giving up a combined six homers over his previous two starts. Lynn leads the major leagues with 42 home runs allowed this season. The Giants (77-78) will use right-hander Ryan Walker (4-3, 3.20) as an opener. The rookie has appeared in 45 games, making 12 starts. In his lone outing against the Dodgers, he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings on June 16, giving up two hits in the 7-5 win. After Saturday's defeat, the Giants are four games back in the NL wild-card standings with seven games to play and are facing elimination soon. But they continue to look for ways to get better. |

09-24-23 | Braves -1.5 v. Nationals | Top | 8-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 56 m | Show |
09-24-23 | Tigers v. A's OVER 7.5 | Top | 2-0 | Loss | -120 | 3 h 52 m | Show |
Attempting to prevent Cabrera from adding to his gaudy numbers Sunday will be A's left-hander JP Sears (5-12, 4.52 ERA), who saw a three-game winning streak end in a 5-0 defeat to Seattle on Monday. Sears arguably threw his best game of the season in his team's 1-0 win at Detroit in July, limiting the Tigers to five hits over a career-high 7 1/3 innings without allowing a walk. It was his only previous head-to-head with the Tigers. Seeking a series split, the Tigers (72-83) are expected to counter with fellow lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (11-9, 3.57), who was bombed for five runs in four innings in a 12-3 home loss to the A's in July, an outing in which he served up home runs to Ryan Noda and Shea Langeliers. Rodriguez will make his 10th career start against the A's, having gone 2-4 with a 4.56 ERA in the previous nine. |

09-23-23 | Giants v. Dodgers OVER 8 | Top | 0-7 | Loss | -118 | 6 h 2 m | Show |
09-23-23 | Orioles v. Guardians +1.5 | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 3 h 5 m | Show
09-23-23 | Tigers v. A's OVER 8.5 | 1-4 | Loss | -115 | 1 h 4 m | Show
09-22-23 | Giants +160 v. Dodgers | 5-1 | Win | 160 | 7 h 13 m | Show
The Giants will send left-hander Sean Manaea (6-6, 4.82 ERA) to the mound on Friday. Manaea will be making his third start since returning to the rotation, giving up three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a win against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. In nine career appearances (six starts) against the Dodgers, he is 0-5 with a 9.00 ERA in 35 innings. The Dodgers will mix and match on the mound Friday, using an alternative plan just as manager Dave Roberts has suggested he might do on occasion in the playoffs. Caleb Ferguson (7-3, 2.56) will be the opener, while fellow left-hander Ryan Yarbrough also will pick up some innings. Los Angeles has just three set starters heading into the playoffs in Bobby Miller, Lance Lynn and Clayton Kershaw. When it comes to Lynn and Kershaw, those veterans might be on moderate pitch counts with the bullpen doing heavy lifting on those days. Pitchers like Yarbrough, Emmet Sheehan and Ryan Pepiot might be asked to pick up as many as three innings per appearance. |
|||||||
09-22-23 | Braves v. Nationals UNDER 9 | Top | 9-6 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 12 m | Show |
Right-hander Charlie Morton (14-12, 3.66 ERA) will be Atlanta's starter on Friday night as he aims for his first victory this month. He won in his final four starts of August before going 0-2 so far in September. He hasn't completed five innings in two of his last three starts. Morton had a seven-game stretch without yielding a home run end Sunday at Miami. This will be the fifth consecutive start on the road for Morton, who holds a 6-6 record and a 4.75 ERA in 15 career starts versus the Nationals. He has yet to face Washington this year, but he went 2-0 in matchups against it last year. The Nationals will go with left-hander Patrick Corbin (10-13, 5.00), who had a strong outing on Sunday at Milwaukee by holding the Brewers to one run in six innings. However, Corbin only has one home victory to show for the past two-plus months. Corbin was the losing pitcher on March 30 in his only outing this season against Atlanta. He's 6-11 with a 4.32 ERA in 22 all-time appearances (20 starts) against the Braves. Only his 5-12 record against the Los Angeles Dodgers reflects more losses against one team. The Nationals are hoping that 4 2/3 innings of relief work from Cory Abbott in the series opener pays off as others in the bullpen were rested for later in the series. |
|||||||
09-22-23 | Pirates v. Reds -165 | Top | 7-5 | Loss | -165 | 4 h 40 m | Show |
Rookie left-hander Andrew Abbott (8-5, 3.68 ERA) will start for the Reds in Friday's series opener, making his 20th start of the season. The 24-year-old labored in his last start, needing 91 pitches to complete just 3 2/3 innings while allowing two runs and six hits against the New York Mets last Saturday. Cincinnati pulled out a 3-2 win as Abbott received a no-decision. In five starts since beating Cleveland on Aug. 16, Abbott is 0-2 with a 6.33 ERA. He allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings back on Aug. 11 to earn a victory in his only career start against Pittsburgh. The Pirates (72-81) come to Cincinnati looking to continue playing the role of spoiler. One day after being on the wrong end of a 14-1 rout against the Cubs, Pittsburgh bounced back with a 13-7 win on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Pirates took the rubber match, 8-6. |
|||||||
09-21-23 | Pirates +1.5 v. Cubs | Top | 8-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 39 m | Show |
Johan Oviedo allowed one run on four hits and five walks in 5.0 innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the New York Yankees 7-5 on Friday. Oviedo struck out seven, ending the game with a 4.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season. That effort will be good enough to give us a win tonight. |
|||||||
09-21-23 | Orioles v. Guardians UNDER 8 | Top | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 3 h 18 m | Show |
09-21-23 | Blue Jays v. Yankees -1.5 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 165 | 3 h 1 m | Show |
Gerrit Cole allowed two runs on six hits and three walks in 5.0 innings as the New York Yankees defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-5 on Friday. Cole struck out four, ending the game with a 2.81 ERA and 1.05 WHIP on the season. Get that plus money tonight. |
|||||||
09-20-23 | Guardians -141 v. Royals | Top | 2-6 | Loss | -141 | 1 h 43 m | Show |
Lucas Giolito improved to 8-13, allowing two hits and one walk over 7.0 scoreless innings, as the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Texas Rangers 12-3 on Friday. Giolito struck out 12, ending the game with a 4.69 ERA and 1.25 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-20-23 | Orioles v. Astros OVER 9 | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -110 | 1 h 32 m | Show |
Kyle Bradish fell to 11-7, allowing four runs on seven hits in 7.0 innings, as the Baltimore Orioles lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 on Thursday. Bradish struck out five, ending the game with a 3.12 ERA and 1.09 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-20-23 | Red Sox v. Rangers OVER 8.5 | 5-15 | Win | 100 | 1 h 32 m | Show
Jon Gray fell to 8-8, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in 3.2 innings, as the Texas Rangers lost to the Cleveland Guardians 12-3 on Friday. Gray struck out three, ending the game with a 4.05 ERA and 1.30 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-19-23 | Giants v. Diamondbacks -145 | Top | 4-8 | Win | 100 | 19 h 53 m | Show |
Zac Gallen fell to 15-8, allowing seven runs - six earned - on eight hits and two walks in 5.0 innings, as the Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the New York Mets 7-1 on Wednesday. Gallen struck out four, ending the game with a 3.50 ERA and 1.11 WHIP on the season. Expect a bounceback effort tonight. |

09-19-23 | Blue Jays -108 v. Yankees | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 16 h 22 m | Show
09-19-23 | Twins v. Reds +1.5 | Top | 7-0 | Loss | -120 | 16 h 3 m | Show |
09-18-23 | Rockies v. Padres OVER 8 | 9-11 | Win | 100 | 10 h 43 m | Show
Michael Wacha fell to 11-4, allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks in 4.0 innings, as the San Diego Padres lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-2 on Tuesday. Wacha struck out three, ending the game with a 3.43 ERA and 1.21 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-18-23 | Phillies v. Braves UNDER 9.5 | Top | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 7 h 18 m | Show |
The Braves will try to bounce back after being swept over the weekend, but it is uncertain whether MVP candidate Ronald Acuna Jr. will be in the lineup when Atlanta hosts the Philadelphia Phillies for three games beginning Monday night. The slugging right fielder left Friday's game early with right calf tightness and did not play Saturday or Sunday. He will work out on Monday and have his availability determined at that time. Acuna is batting .337 with 37 homers, 98 RBIs and 66 stolen bases this season. Philadelphia and Atlanta played a week ago, with Atlanta taking three of four and clinching the National League East title. The Braves lead the season series 7-3. |
|||||||
09-18-23 | Twins v. Reds +1.5 | Top | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 49 m | Show |
The Twins will send right-hander Joe Ryan (10-9, 4.20 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. On Tuesday, Ryan was charged with two runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking two as the Twins beat visiting Tampa Bay 3-2. The Reds, with just three regular pitchers in their rotation, were non-committal after Sunday's game about a starting pitcher for Monday, but it could be rookie right-hander Connor Phillips (0-0, 8.31 ERA) in his third major league appearance. Phillips debuted on Sept. 5, and in his second start on Wednesday in Detroit, he gave up three runs on four hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out three. |
|||||||
09-17-23 | Padres v. A's +153 | 10-1 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 12 m | Show
09-17-23 | Red Sox v. Blue Jays -136 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 39 m | Show |
The Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday will seek a three-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox and a winning 10-game homestand. The Blue Jays (82-67) have won the first two games against the Red Sox (74-75) after a 4-3, 13-inning victory Saturday. Toronto is 5-4 on its homestand and currently holds the third and final wild-card spot in the American League. The Red Sox have lost three in a row and 14 of their past 20 games. |
|||||||
09-17-23 | Yankees -1.5 v. Pirates | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 44 m | Show |
In the series finale, New York left-hander Carlos Rodon (3-5, 6.14 ERA) is scheduled to start against right-hander Colin Selby (2-1, 8.20). Rodon had a bounce-back game his last time out. After giving up seven runs and eight hits Sept. 7 in a loss against Detroit in his worst start of the year, he got a win Tuesday against Boston. He held the Red Sox to one run and four hits in five innings and struck out a season-high nine. He had a shaky start as his first pitch was hit for a home run, but he struck out the side that first inning and went from there. |
|||||||
09-16-23 | Tigers v. Angels +103 | Top | 5-4 | Loss | -100 | 13 h 45 m | Show |
Tyler Anderson improved to 6-6, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk in 8.0 innings, as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Cleveland Guardians 6-2 on Saturday. Anderson struck out four, ending the game with a 5.36 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-16-23 | Rangers v. Guardians -110 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 10 h 51 m | Show
Texas shortstop Corey Seager is riding a six-game hitting streak. He has recorded an extra-base hit in five of those games, and 11 of his past 16 hits overall have gone for extra bases (six doubles, five homers). Seager will look to continue that success against Cleveland rookie right-hander Tanner Bibee (10-4, 3.03 ERA). Bibee has yielded just two earned runs in each of his past four outings but has just one win to show for it. He was saddled with a hard-luck loss on Sunday despite allowing only two hits and striking out eight in seven innings during a 2-1 setback to the Los Angeles Angels. Two balk calls in the third inning contributed to the undoing of Bibee. The 24-year-old, however, retired the last 14 batters he faced and did not issue a walk. Bibee settled for a no-decision in his lone encounter against Texas. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six in six innings on July 16. Rangers right-hander Dane Dunning (10-6, 3.91 ERA) recorded his first win since Aug. 2 after allowing three runs in six innings en route to a 10-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. |
|||||||
09-16-23 | Giants v. Rockies OVER 10.5 | Top | 5-9 | Win | 100 | 6 h 55 m | Show |
Right-hander Keaton Winn (1-2, 3.55 ERA) is San Francisco's scheduled starter for Saturday's first game. Colorado hadn't named a starter for that contest, but right-hander Peter Lambert (3-7, 5.36) is a strong possibility. Lambert and Winn were the starting pitchers when San Francisco completed a three-game sweep of Colorado with a 6-3 victory on Sunday. Winn struck out nine while tossing six innings of three-run ball to collect his first major league victory. It was the first time he has pitched against Colorado. Winn, who began his big-league career as a reliever, will be making his fourth start. Lambert allowed six runs on eight hits in five innings and took the loss. He surrendered a season-high three home runs. Lambert also had a relief outing against San Francisco on June 6, and he yielded three runs in 1 1/3 innings. He is 0-1 with a 6.95 ERA in five career games (four starts) against the Giants, having allowed six home runs in 22 innings. |
|||||||
09-15-23 | Tigers v. Angels +109 | 11-2 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 22 m | Show
Griffin Canning (7-6, 4.34 ERA) will start the series opener for the Angels (68-79). He lost his past two starts, including an outing against the Cleveland Guardians on Sept. 6, when he allowed three runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. He will be opposed by Tarik Skubal (5-4, 3.47 ERA), who has won both of his September starts. The left-hander held the Chicago White Sox to two runs in seven innings on Sept. 3, then blanked the White Sox for five innings while recording nine strikeouts on Saturday. Skubal was mad at himself for requiring 95 pitches to get 15 outs. |
|||||||
09-15-23 | Red Sox v. Blue Jays OVER 8 | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -115 | 6 h 48 m | Show |
The Blue Jays are scheduled to start right-hander Jose Berrios (10-10, 3.63 ERA) on Friday. He is 2-6 with a 4.34 ERA in 13 career starts against the Red Sox, including a 1-1 mark with a 6.35 ERA in three starts this year. Boston is scheduled to start right-hander Brayan Bello (12-8, 3.68) in the opener. He is 1-2 with a 6.50 ERA in four career starts against the Blue Jays. In his lone start against Toronto this year, he allowed four runs (two earned) in five innings during a home win on May 4. The Blue Jays will hope to bounce back after getting outscored 35-9 by the Rangers in the four-game set. |
|||||||
09-15-23 | Rays v. Orioles UNDER 8.5 | Top | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 6 h 55 m | Show |
Right-hander Zach Eflin (14-8, 3.53 ERA), who will start for the Rays on Friday night, blanked the Orioles on two hits for seven innings in a July 21 home victory. He has gone 3-3 with a 3.91 ERA in nine starts since then. Since Aug. 1, Eflin has pitched in only three road games, but Tampa Bay has won all of those as he allowed a total of one run in 18 1/3 innings. Against the Orioles, he is 2-2 with a 3.36 ERA in four career starts, including a 1-1 mark with a 2.77 ERA in two starts this year. Right-hander Jack Flaherty (8-8, 4.98 ERA) heads to the mound for the Orioles in need of a personal bounce-back performance. He hasn't registered a victory since winning his Orioles debut on Aug. 3 after arriving in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals. Only once in his past four outings has he completed five innings. Flaherty has pitched in 128 major league games, but he has never faced the Rays. |
|||||||
09-14-23 | Rays v. Orioles -130 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -130 | 16 h 57 m | Show |
Kyle Bradish improved to 11-6, allowing two runs on four hits in 6.0 innings, as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 11-2 on Friday. Bradish struck out nine, ending the game with a 3.03 ERA and 1.09 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-14-23 | Diamondbacks +107 v. Mets | 1-11 | Loss | -100 | 13 h 57 m | Show
Merrill Kelly allowed one run on four hits and five walks in 5.2 innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Saturday. Kelly struck out six, ending the game with a 3.16 ERA and 1.19 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-14-23 | Yankees +102 v. Red Sox | Top | 0-5 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 24 m | Show |
Michael King allowed two runs - one earned - on four hits and one walk in 5.0 innings as the New York Yankees lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 9-2 on Saturday. King struck out nine, ending the game with a 2.82 ERA and 1.13 WHIP on the season. |
|||||||
09-13-23 | Nationals v. Pirates -1.5 | 6-7 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 54 m | Show
Both teams are thinking a bit outside the box for their starters Wednesday. Right-hander Jackson Rutledge is expected to join Washington from Triple-A Rochester to make his major league debut, while Pittsburgh will go with right-hander Colin Selby (2-1, 8.64 ERA). Selby, a rookie who has never faced the Nationals, is slated to serve as an opener, with Quinn Priester, who was added to the Pirates' taxi squad on Tuesday, expected to be added to the roster and pitch most of the innings. Priester made his first six major league appearances, all starts, between mid-July and mid-August this season before going back to Triple-A Indianapolis. In his most recent big-league start, Priester gave up six runs and seven hits in five innings, with three strikeouts and three walks on Aug. 14 in a loss against the New York Mets, who scored in each of the five innings. |
|||||||
09-13-23 | Cardinals v. Orioles UNDER 10.5 | Top | 1-0 | Win | 100 | 10 h 51 m | Show |
Baltimore right-hander Kyle Gibson (14-8, 5.12 ERA) opposes a former Orioles prospect, left-hander Drew Rom (0-2, 7.79), in Wednesday's rubber game. Gibson has allowed three or more runs in each of his past six starts -- including nine against the Mariners on Aug. 11 -- while watching his ERA climb from 4.50 to 5.12. Thanks in part to its offense, Baltimore is 4-2 in those starts and the 11-year veteran has set a career high in wins. |
|||||||
09-13-23 | Cubs v. Rockies OVER 11.5 | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 33 m | Show |
Right-hander Jameson Taillon (7-9, 5.27 ERA) will get the start for Chicago (78-68), while the Rockies will send left-hander Ty Blach (2-1, 4.58) to the mound in the series finale. Taillon is coming off a strong start against Arizona on Friday, when he tossed six scoreless innings and gave up just one hit. He didn't factor into the 1-0 loss to the Diamondbacks, but it was an encouraging outing for Taillon, who hasn't earned a win since Aug. 8 and is 0-3 with a 5.57 ERA in six starts since then. The current rut comes on the heels of a stretch in which Taillon went 5-0 with a 2.17 ERA in six outings from July 7 to the Aug. 8 victory. Taillon's seven wins are half of his total with the New York Yankees last season, when he went 14-5 with a 3.91 ERA. Rather than the stats, he is just concerned with trying to help the Cubs reach the playoffs in his first season with the club. Colorado (52-92) is trying to avoid losing 100 games for the first time in franchise history. Blach has been a steadying presence in a rotation hit hard by injuries. Four starters -- German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, Austin Gomber and Ryan Feltner -- are currently on the injured list. Blach started the season coming out of the bullpen but has been a starter since July 23. He has pitched well against tough teams, like when he held Baltimore to a run on three hits over seven innings on Aug. 27, and has gone at least five innings in each of his last three outings. In six career appearances (three starts) against the Cubs, Blach is 4-1 with a 4.43 ERA. He last faced Chicago on April 15, 2022, throwing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn a win. |

09-12-23 | Angels v. Mariners -187 | 0-8 | Win | 100 | 12 h 27 m | Show
Tuesday's pitching matchup will feature Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval (7-12, 4.31 ERA) against Mariners rookie right-hander Bryan Woo (2-4, 4.50). Sandoval has lost his past two starts, including 10-3 Wednesday against Baltimore when he allowed seven runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in five innings. Sandoval is 0-4 with a 3.18 ERA in eight career starts against the Mariners. He lost to visiting Seattle on June 10 when he allowed five runs on 10 hits over five innings. Woo has had a couple of extra days off since his last start, a defeat Sept. 4 at Cincinnati when he gave up five runs on four hits in five innings. Woo is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in two lifetime starts covering 10 2/3 innings against the Angels. |
|||||||
09-12-23 | Braves v. Phillies +1.5 | Top | 7-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 22 m | Show |
Philadelphia will hand the ball to right-hander Zack Wheeler (11-6, 3.49 ERA) on Tuesday. In his latest start, Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings and gave up just one hit against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Left-hander Max Fried (7-1, 2.70 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves on Tuesday. In Fried's latest outing, on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals, he gave up six hits and three runs in six innings. It wasn't one of Fried's best outings but was nonetheless a quality start. |
|||||||
09-12-23 | Cardinals v. Orioles UNDER 10.5 | Top | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 27 m | Show |
Left-hander John Means will make his first start since April 13, 2022, when the host Baltimore Orioles face the St. Louis Cardinals in the middle contest of a three-game series on Tuesday night. Means, the Orioles' Opening Day starter in 2021 and 2022 and the author of a no-hitter on May 5, 2021, underwent Tommy John surgery on April 27, 2022, after appearing in just two games that year. In his most recent step on the comeback trail, Means threw a bullpen session on Saturday. He went 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA in six minor league rehab starts over the past month. Means, a 30-year-old veteran who went 6-9 with a 3.62 ERA in his last full season in 2021, gives the Orioles (91-52) an experienced starter for the stretch run as they battle the Tampa Bay Rays for the American League East crown. That being said, Means' counterpart on Tuesday night is far more experienced, as 42-year-old Adam Wainwright (3-11, 8.19 ERA) will face Baltimore for just the second time in his 18-year career. He lost to the Orioles on June 17, 2017, when he was hammered for nine runs in 1 2/3 innings. Wainwright has not won since June 17 and remains stuck on 198 career wins. Since his last victory, Wainwright has gone 0-10 with a 10.72 ERA in 11 starts, and his season ERA has risen by 2.63 in that span. Last time out, Wainwright gave up six runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. It was the fourth time in six starts that he allowed at least six runs. |

09-11-23 | Angels v. Mariners OVER 7.5 | Top | 8-5 | Win | 100 | 9 h 2 m | Show |
Seattle's pitching staff faltered on the road, as it posted a 5.38 ERA on the trip with just two quality starts. Monday's pitching matchup is set to feature Angels left-hander Reid Detmers (3-10, 4.82 ERA) against Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (13-5, 3.61). Detmers didn't get a decision in a 5-4 loss to visiting Baltimore last Tuesday. He allowed just one earned run in 6 2/3 innings. Detmers is 2-0 with a 5.01 ERA in five career starts against Seattle. He has failed to go five innings in his two starts against the Mariners this season, a pair of no-decisions. Gilbert has won his past eight decisions, including an 8-4 victory last Wednesday at Cincinnati in which he gave up three runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, with nine strikeouts. He's 4-2 with a 4.71 ERA in seven career starts against the Angels. He lost 9-4 on June 11 in Anaheim, Calif., as he surrendered seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over three innings. |
|||||||
09-11-23 | Nationals v. Pirates OVER 8.5 | 6-2 | Loss | -120 | 6 h 2 m | Show
On Monday, Washington left-hander Patrick Corbin (9-13, 5.23 ERA) is scheduled to start, while Pittsburgh has not named a starter for the first three games of the series. Pirates ace Mitch Keller is slated to start Thursday. That's been the norm in recent weeks for Pittsburgh, which has been piecing together its plan for its starters outside of Keller and Johan Oviedo, who is not likely to face the Nationals. Corbin is coming off losses in each of his past two starts, giving up a combined 14 runs and 17 hits in nine innings. Last Tuesday, he made it through four innings, allowing eight runs and seven hits -- three of them homers, making it 30 against him this season -- against the New York Mets. It was the first time since his first start of the season that he didn't go at least five innings, ending his streak at 26 games. |
|||||||
09-11-23 | Braves -154 v. Phillies | Top | 10-8 | Win | 100 | 1 h 37 m | Show |
The Atlanta Braves became the first team in the majors to clinch a postseason berth on Sunday, but manager Brian Snitker is already focused on the next task at hand. The Braves can take another step toward their sixth straight National League East title when they begin a four-game series against the host Philadelphia Phillies with a doubleheader on Monday. Atlanta (93-49) reduced its magic number to clinch the NL East to six after taking two of three games against the Pittsburgh Pirates, including the playoff-clinching 5-2 victory on Sunday. |
|||||||
09-10-23 | Orioles -105 v. Red Sox | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -105 | 3 h 7 m | Show |
The visiting Baltimore Orioles will attempt to sweep the Boston Red Sox and extend their winning streak to eight games when the teams wrap up a three-game series Sunday. The Orioles opened the series with an 11-2 victory on Friday night and won 13-12 on Saturday. The Red Sox collected 23 hits in Saturday's loss but stranded runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth. |
|||||||
09-10-23 | Pirates v. Braves UNDER 10.5 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 3 h 32 m | Show
Sunday, Pittsburgh's Luis Ortiz (4-4, 4.90 ERA) and Atlanta rookie Allan Winans (1-1, 5.17) are scheduled to start in a matchup of right-handers. Neither has faced the opposing team before. Ortiz is coming off a win Monday against Milwaukee when he allowed two runs and five hits in six innings. Winans' last start, Aug. 21 against the New York Mets, was a loss. He gave up seven runs and nine hits, including two homers, in 4 1/3 innings. Atlanta appears to be reserving two of its better starters, Charlie Morton and Spencer Strider, for a doubleheader Monday against Philadelphia. |
|||||||
09-10-23 | Mariners v. Rays -133 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 2 h 12 m | Show |
Right-hander Bryce Miller (8-4, 3.83 ERA) will get the nod in the series finale on Sunday. Logan Gilbert will pitch Monday against the Los Angeles Angels, while Bryan Woo was pushed back three days to start on Tuesday. The Rays will counter with right-hander Zach Eflin (13-8, 3.47), who had mixed results against the Boston Red Sox last Tuesday. He gave up three runs over five innings while throwing 89 pitches in a no-decision. |
|||||||
09-09-23 | Rockies v. Giants OVER 7.5 | Top | 1-9 | Win | 100 | 12 h 45 m | Show |
Giants right-hander Logan Webb (9-12, 3.51 ERA) has been moved up a day to take Saturday's start. Webb has lost three straight outings, including 5-0 to the Chicago Cubs on Monday. The 26-year-old, however, has a 7-2 lifetime record and 3.50 ERA against Colorado in 13 career appearances (12 starts). Right-hander Chase Anderson (0-4, 5.98) will get the start on Saturday for the Rockies (51-89). Anderson, 35, returned from a six-week absence due to inflammation in his right shoulder to throw four effective innings last Sunday at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. He allowed two runs and four hits in a no-decision. Anderson also received a no-decision in a start against the Giants in June, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings with a season-best seven strikeouts. He has gone 3-3 with a 4.77 ERA in 11 career starts against San Francisco. The Giants teed off on the Colorado bullpen in Friday's win, hammering four relievers who did not include Daniel Bard, who has been battling arm fatigue. |
|||||||
09-09-23 | White Sox v. Tigers OVER 8.5 | 1-3 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 54 m | Show
Tarik Skubal delivered a sharp performance against the Chicago White Sox in his most recent start. The Detroit Tigers left-hander will try to duplicate that effort during the second game of a three-game home series on Saturday. Skubal (4-3, 3.77 ERA) held the White Sox to two runs and five hits and two walks while striking out seven in seven innings. Detroit, now 64-77, held on for a 3-2 victory. Skubal is 4-2 with a 5.40 ERA in seven career starts against the White Sox (55-86). Former Tiger Jose Urena will make his White Sox debut on Saturday. The veteran right-hander most recently made four starts for Chicago's Triple-A affiliate, Charlotte, posting a 1-1 record and 3.38 ERA. He also started 15 games this summer for Washington's Triple-A affiliate, Rochester, going 1-3 with a 6.31 ERA. Urena began the season with the Colorado Rockies but was released in late April after five unimpressive starts in which he went 0-4 with a 9.82 ERA. Urena appeared in 26 games, including 18 starts, for Detroit in 2021 and posted a 4-8 record and a 5.81 ERA. |
|||||||
09-09-23 | Mets v. Twins -1.5 | Top | 4-8 | Win | 140 | 5 h 59 m | Show |
Minnesota (74-67), which maintained a 6 1/2-game lead in the Central over the Cleveland Guardians (68-74), will try to clinch the three-game series Saturday afternoon when veteran right-hander Kenta Maeda (3-7, 4.73 ERA) takes the mound against New York left-hander David Peterson (3-7, 5.40). Maeda is 1-2 with a 5.25 ERA in four career appearances (two starts) against the Mets but hasn't faced them since 2019, when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Peterson, meanwhile, has never faced the Twins. To even the series, he will have to find a way to cool down Correa, who belted a 439-foot homer off Kodai Senga during the fourth inning on Friday. The ball had an exit an exit velocity of 114.2 mph, the hardest of his nine-year career. |
|||||||
09-08-23 | Rockies v. Giants OVER 8.5 | 8-9 | Win | 100 | 12 h 18 m | Show
Whomever Kapler selects for Friday's game will be behind the plate for left-hander Kyle Harrison (1-1, 4.70 ERA), one of the organization's top prospects who was brilliant in his major league home debut on Aug. 28, striking out 11 in 6 1/3 shutout innings in a 4-1 win over the Reds. He has never faced the Rockies. One of Harrison's biggest obstacles figures to be fellow rookie Nolan Jones, who enters the series with a .282 average, two points below current Rockies team leader Charlie Blackmon. Jones' recent change in approach has led to a seven-game hitting streak in which he has hit .385. The Rockies are expected to start lefty Ty Blach (2-1, 4.33), who recorded 15 of his 19 big-league wins as a four-year member of the Giants from 2016-19. The 32-year-old had pitched well (2.86 ERA) in consecutive starts against the Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Rays and Baltimore Orioles before allowing five runs in six innings in his most recent start against the Toronto Blue Jays. He has faced the Giants three times in his career but never as a starter. He has a 5.40 ERA in 6 2/3 innings without getting a decision. The Rockies have lost five consecutive series, all against either division leaders or playoff contenders, going 3-12 over that stretch. |
|||||||
09-08-23 | Mariners -105 v. Rays | Top | 4-7 | Loss | -105 | 9 h 47 m | Show |
Seattle is scheduled to start All-Star right-hander George Kirby (10-9, 3.39 ERA). Tampa Bay will counter with rookie right-hander Taj Bradley (5-7, 5.42 ERA). On May 8, 2022, Kirby made his major league debut against the Rays, throwing six shutout innings while striking out seven in a no-decision. He has faced Tampa Bay only once since, when he pitched seven innings of two-run ball this year in a win on July 1. The 25-year-old is one of the top young starters in the American League, and the former first-round pick from Elon will be making his 27th start of the year. In 159 1/3 innings, Kirby has 145 strikeouts. Kirby is seeking his first victory since Aug. 5, when he defeated the Los Angeles Angels. In his start following that seven-inning outing, the right-hander threw nine shutout innings, yielding just three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in a no-decision against the Baltimore Orioles. Kirby has struggled in his past three starts, giving up 11 runs, 10 earned, in 14 2/3 innings (6.14 ERA). In his latest outing, a loss to the New York Mets on Sunday, Kirby surrendered four runs (three earned) in three innings. Bradley is seeking his first victory since June 21 against the Orioles. In his past seven starts, he is 0-4 with a 7.92 ERA. The results haven't always been favorable for Bradley, but the rookie has shown the ability to pick up strikeouts. In 79 2/3 innings, he has fanned 106. On Sunday, Bradley threw five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, in a no-decision against the Cleveland Guardians. He struck out seven but walked five. |
|||||||
09-08-23 | White Sox v. Tigers -135 | Top | 6-0 | Loss | -135 | 9 h 39 m | Show |
Rookie right-hander Reese Olson (3-6, 4.65 ERA) will start the series opener on Friday. The 24-year-old delivered the best performance of his young career on Saturday, tossing seven scoreless innings and limiting the White Sox to four hits. He also didn't walk a batter, though he only recorded one strikeout. It was a stark contrast to his previous start against the New York Yankees, when he walked four and struck out a career-best 10 batters. Olson's mound opponent will once again be Mike Clevinger (6-7, 3.90). The right-hander endured his worst outing of the season on Saturday, giving up eight hits and 12 runs in four innings during Detroit's 10-0 victory. Clevinger had been placed on waivers and gone unclaimed prior to that start. He didn't use that as an excuse for his poor outing. |
|||||||
09-07-23 | Guardians +150 v. Angels | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 12 h 50 m | Show
The Guardians will send Cal Quantrill (2-6, 6.16 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. The veteran right-hander was sidelined for nearly two months because of shoulder inflammation before returning to action on Friday. He threw six innings and yielded two runs on two hits in a no-decision against the Tampa Bay Rays. Quantrill is 1-1 with a 2.67 ERA in five career appearances (four starts) against the Angels. He faced Los Angeles on May 13 in Cleveland and wasn't involved in the decision after throwing six innings of three-run ball. Nevin said the Angels' plan for Thursday would be "some sort of a bullpen game" because he was unsure if right-hander Chase Silseth (4-1, 4.10 ERA) would be ready to start. Silseth was hit in the back of the head by an errant throw on Aug. 26 from a teammate in a game against the New York Mets. |
|||||||
09-07-23 | Diamondbacks +148 v. Cubs | Top | 6-2 | Win | 148 | 10 h 59 m | Show |
The Cubs will hand the ball to another rookie in the series opener against Arizona. Javier Assad (3-2, 2.69 ERA) is set to make his 26th appearance and eighth start of the season. Assad went 2-0 with a 2.48 ERA in five starts in August before throwing eight shutout innings in his most recent outing on Saturday at Cincinnati. He scattered seven hits, struck out seven and walked one but did not earn a decision in Chicago's 2-1 loss. Assad was in good position for a victory when Chicago took a 1-0 lead into the ninth, but the Reds scored two runs to walk it off. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo announced after the Wednesday game that right-hander Ryne Nelson would be recalled from Reno to make the start on Thursday. Nelson (6-7, 5.47 ERA) last pitched for the Diamondbacks on Aug. 11, when he allowed six runs and seven hits in three innings during a 10-5 loss to the visiting San Diego Padres. He was optioned to the minors two days later. |
|||||||
09-07-23 | Dodgers v. Marlins UNDER 8.5 | Top | 10-0 | Loss | -115 | 9 h 49 m | Show |
Miami will count on left-hander Braxton Garrett (8-5, 3.86 ERA) to set the tone in the series finale. Garrett helped the Marlins kick off the current winning streak by allowing one run over six innings in a victory over the Washington Nationals on Aug. 31. Garrett went 3-2 with a 3.18 ERA in six August starts. One of the losses came on the road against the Dodgers on Aug. 19 in the second game of a doubleheader, when he gave up three runs over six innings. It was his first start against Los Angeles in two career appearances. Two years ago, he yielded three runs to the Dodgers in a three-inning relief outing. Urias was scheduled to start the Thursday game, but the Dodgers instead will turn to right-hander Ryan Pepiot (0-1, 1.29). After dealing with an oblique injury in the first half, Pepiot is set to take over a significant role down the stretch and into the playoffs. Pepiot has made two career appearances against the Marlins, including a five-inning relief outing Aug. 19 in the first game of a doubleheader, when he gave up one run on three hits. He started against Miami on Aug. 21, 2002, and earned a win after tossing six innings of two-run ball. |
|||||||
09-06-23 | Dodgers v. Marlins UNDER 9 | 4-11 | Loss | -120 | 9 h 28 m | Show
Miami, who hit four home runs on Tuesday, and now will face Los Angeles right-hander Lance Lynn (10-10, 5.81 ERA), who leads the majors with 37 home runs allowed this season. The Marlins are scheduled to start right-hander JT Chargois (1-0, 3.78 ERA) on Wednesday. He has made one appearance against the Dodgers in his career, giving up one hit and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings while pitching for the Seattle Mariners in 2021. The Dodgers (84-53) are in position to win the National League West and wrap up at least the second seed for the NL playoffs, but they are being challenged with problems on multiple fronts. |
|||||||
09-06-23 | Giants v. Cubs OVER 10.5 | Top | 2-8 | Loss | -115 | 5 h 16 m | Show |
On Wednesday, Cubs rookie left-hander Jordan Wicks will vie for his third win in as many starts to begin his major league career. Wicks (2-0, 1.80 ERA) allowed just one run in five innings in each of his first two outings. He permitted five hits while celebrating his 24th birthday with a 6-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. Giants left-hander Alex Wood (5-4, 4.35 ERA) will aim for his first win since July 26 when he takes the mound on Wednesday. His past nine appearances all came in relief, and he has started just 11 of his 24 games this year. Most recently, he gave up just an unearned run in three innings on Friday against the San Diego Padres. Wood, 32, is 4-2 with a 3.65 ERA in 11 career appearances (eight starts) against the Cubs. |
|||||||
09-06-23 | Brewers v. Pirates UNDER 8.5 | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -110 | 3 h 16 m | Show |
Right-hander Freddy Peralta (11-8, 3.85 ERA) is scheduled to start for Milwaukee on Wednesday. He will oppose rookie right-hander Colin Selby (2-0, 5.79). Peralta was the NL Pitcher of the Month for August after going 5-0 with a 2.10 ERA in five starts. In his first start of September, Peralta came away with a no-decision against Philadelphia on Friday despite a dominant performance. He allowed one run and two hits in six innings, with 10 strikeouts and no walks. |
|||||||
09-05-23 | Rockies v. Diamondbacks -198 | 3-2 | Loss | -198 | 19 h 4 m | Show
Kyle Freeland fell to 5-14, allowing seven runs - six earned - on eight hits and one walk in 5.2 innings, as the Colorado Rockies lost to the Atlanta Braves 7-3 on Wednesday. Freeland struck out three, ending the game with a 5.18 ERA and 1.47 WHIP on the season. I don't want anything to do with Freeland or the Rockies right now. |
|||||||
09-05-23 | Red Sox v. Rays -152 | Top | 6-8 | Win | 100 | 16 h 1 m | Show |
The pitching matchup Tuesday night will feature a pair of native Floridians, Boston's Kutter Crawford and Tampa Bay's Zach Eflin. A product of the lakeside town of Okeechobee, Crawford (6-7, 4.08 ERA) will appear in his 27th game and make his 19th start of the year. The right-hander surrendered six runs and seven hits in 2 2/3 innings and absorbed a 7-4 loss to the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Before the start, Cora said Crawford had progressed tremendously from 2022 (3-6, 5.47 in 21 games). |
|||||||
09-05-23 | Brewers -178 v. Pirates | Top | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 16 h 2 m | Show |
The Milwaukee Brewers can't afford to lose many games, especially against non-contending teams such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, if they expect to hold onto first place in the National League Central. The visiting Brewers (76-61) took a 4-2 loss to the Pirates (64-74) in the opener of a three-game series Monday, dropping Milwaukee's lead over the second-place Chicago Cubs to 2 1/2 games. Things appeared to line up well for Milwaukee in this series. The Brewers' three strongest starters -- former NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, two-time All-Star Brandon Woodruff, and Freddy Peralta, the NL pitcher of the month for August -- were scheduled to face the Pirates. Pittsburgh, which is scrambling to field a rotation, originally did not have a projected starter for any of the three games. |
|||||||
09-04-23 | Phillies v. Padres OVER 9 | 9-7 | Win | 100 | 6 h 0 m | Show
The Padres send struggling left-hander Rich Hill (7-13, 5.26 ERA) to the mound against Phillies right-hander Taijuan Walker (14-5, 4.05). The Padres will look for a breakthrough Monday -- a fourth straight win for the first time this season. If the Padres extend their winning streak with Hill facing the Phillies' bats and matched against Walker, might that be a sign of an impending surge? Walker, 31, has struggled recently. He had a 4.76 ERA and a .267 opponents' batting average in four August starts, and he even had one start skipped by Phillies' manager Rob Thomson. |
|||||||
09-04-23 | Astros v. Rangers -105 | Top | 13-6 | Loss | -105 | 3 h 22 m | Show |
Left-hander Andrew Heaney (9-6, 4.16 ERA), who went 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA in six August starts, will start the series opener for the Rangers and be opposed by rookie right-hander J.P. France (10-5, 3.49). Heaney is 4-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 14 career starts against Houston. He is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in three starts against Houston this season, allowing just nine hits and three runs over 15 innings while striking out 15 in those contests. France won his only career start against Texas on July 25, allowing one unearned run on five hits over seven innings while striking out three. The Astros limp into the contest after getting swept in a three-game series by the New York Yankees for the first time since Sept. 27-29, 2013. The Yankees completed the sweep with a 6-1 win on Sunday night at Minute Maid Park. |
|||||||
09-03-23 | Blue Jays v. Rockies UNDER 12 | 7-5 | Push | 0 | 13 h 54 m | Show
Kevin Gausman improved to 10-8, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in 5.0 innings, as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Washington Nationals 6-3 on Monday. Gausman struck out seven, ending the game with a 3.30 ERA and 1.18 WHIP on the season. Expect Gausman to be even better today. |
|||||||
09-03-23 | Phillies v. Brewers +102 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 46 m | Show |
Wade Miley improved to 7-3, allowing two runs on four hits in 6.0 innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-2 on Monday. Miley struck out one, ending the game with a 3.17 ERA and 1.14 WHIP on the season. We'll take Miley here. |
|||||||
09-03-23 | Cubs v. Reds +115 | Top | 15-7 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 57 m | Show |
Jameson Taillon fell to 7-9, allowing five runs - four earned - on nine hits in 6.0 innings, as the Chicago Cubs lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 on Monday. Taillon struck out six, ending the game with a 5.62 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season. I'll take my chances with the plus money. |
|||||||
09-02-23 | Braves v. Dodgers +1.5 | 4-2 | Loss | -152 | 9 h 28 m | Show
Atlanta is set to send right-hander Bryce Elder (11-4, 3.50 ERA) to the mound Saturday as he looks to continue his impressive first full season. But it was an up-and-down August with a 3-2 record and a 4.88 ERA in five starts. In his most recent effort, Elder gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings before ending up with the win over the Colorado Rockies. Elder's only appearance against the Dodgers came on May 24, when he gave up one run in six innings with a no-decision during an eventual 4-3 Atlanta victory. Now he enters this series after Spencer Strider and Max Fried recorded solid starts. The Dodgers have not named a starter for Saturday's game. Right-hander Emmet Sheehan, however, was added to the expanded roster Friday and could be used either as a starter or to pick up bulk innings after an opener. Sheehan (3-1, 5.63) has made eight appearances (seven starts) in his rookie season but has yet to face the Braves. |
|||||||
09-02-23 | Red Sox v. Royals UNDER 10.5 | Top | 9-5 | Loss | -115 | 7 h 24 m | Show |
Rookie Alec Marsh (0-7, 5.47 ERA) will make his eighth career start and first against Boston. His last four outings have been in relief, including a loss to the Red Sox on Aug. 10 despite allowing just two runs on six hits in five innings. Prior to Boston losing again on Friday, manager Alex Cora was unwilling to give up on his team's slim playoff hopes. Scheduled Saturday starter Tanner Houck (3-8, 4.93 ERA) has pitched at least five innings in 11 of his 14 starts this season, though the right-hander lasted just four frames in a 7-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers last Sunday. The Red Sox surely could use any type of length after James Paxton was relieved after just 1 1/3 innings Friday in one of the shortest outings of his career. |
|||||||
09-02-23 | Cubs v. Reds OVER 9.5 | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 3 m | Show |
Right-hander Javier Assad has established himself as one of the most reliable arms on the Chicago Cubs' pitching staff. The 26-year-old rookie will look to continue a two-month stretch of dominance on Saturday when Chicago faces the host Cincinnati Reds in the third contest of a four-game series. Since June 27, Assad (3-2, 2.96 ERA) has been lights out, going 3-0 with a 1.58 ERA over his past 14 appearances, including five starts. He most recently allowed one run on three hits while walking two and striking out seven across seven innings to earn a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. Assad is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in four career appearances (two starts) against Cincinnati. His two outings vs. the Reds this year both came in relief, and he had logged no decisions while allowing two runs in a total of 7 1/3 innings. Left-hander Andrew Abbott (8-4, 3.35 ERA) will try to slow down Chicago on Saturday when he makes his 17th start of the season. In his most recent outing, Abbott matched his season low by lasting just 3 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits against the Giants on Monday. He walked three and struck out six. Abbott, a rookie, has failed to work at least six innings in each of his past six starts. He is 2-2 with a 6.67 ERA during that span |

09-01-23 | Giants v. Padres -128 | Top | 3-7 | Win | 100 | 12 h 30 m | Show |
Right-hander Tristan Beck (3-2, 3.52 ERA) will open for the Giants against Padres right-hander Michael Wacha (10-2, 2.84). Beck made his first start against the visiting Atlanta Braves on Sunday. He gave up three runs on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. He threw 70 pitches, his second-highest total on the season. Wacha will be making his fourth start since returning from the injured list after missing six weeks with shoulder fatigue. After giving up one run over 10 1/3 innings in back-to-back wins in his first two starts back, the National League's Pitcher of the Month in May yielded four runs on four hits and five walks in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision at Milwaukee on Sunday. Wacha has made one start against the Giants this season, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings during a no-decision on June 19 at San Francisco. Wacha has a 2-0 career record against the Giants in eight starts with a 1.64 ERA, a 1.091 WHIP and a .219 opponents' batting average in 44 innings. |

09-01-23 | Rays v. Guardians +162 | 2-3 | Win | 162 | 9 h 9 m | Show
The Rays will turn to Tyler Glasnow (7-4, 3.12 ERA) in the series opener against Cal Quantrill (2-6, 6.45) of the Guardians in a battle of right-handers. Quantrill, who has been sidelined by an ailing shoulder, is expected to return from the 15-day injured list to make the start. Glasnow, 30, answered a dismal performance with a sterling one on Saturday to improve to 5-1 in his last seven outings. After allowing seven runs (five earned) in a setback to the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 19, Glasnow took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning versus the New York Yankees. He surrendered a single to DJ LeMahieu with one out in the sixth before exiting after the inning, marking his career-best seventh consecutive start in which he pitched at least six frames. Glasnow is 0-2 with a 2.12 ERA in three career starts against the Guardians. Quantrill, 28, is 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in three career appearances against Tampa Bay. |

Neither team officially has named a starter for the nightcap. Chicago is expected to turn to Caleb Kilian (0-1, 16.88), while the Reds likely will give the ball to fellow right-hander Ben Lively (4-7, 5.17). Kilian hasn't pitched since Aug. 13, when he allowed three runs in an inning of relief against the Blue Jays. He has never faced Cincinnati. Lively gave up three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Diamondbacks last Saturday. He is 0-2 with a 19.00 ERA in two career starts versus the Cubs. |

08-31-23 | Braves -129 v. Dodgers | Top | 8-7 | Win | 100 | 13 h 42 m | Show |
Los Angeles will send right-hander Lance Lynn (10-9, 5.56 ERA) to the mound in the series opener. Lynn has gone 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA in five starts since joining the Dodgers from the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline. In seven career starts against the Braves, Lynn is 4-3 with a 3.32 ERA. He faced Atlanta on July 15 with the White Sox, and he got a win despite yielding four runs in 5 1/3 innings. Lynn will have to contend with an Atlanta offense that hit three home runs against the Rockies on Wednesday and already has a franchise-record 250 home runs on the season. It isn't even September. And Lynn leads the majors with 34 home runs allowed. The Braves will send right-hander Spencer Strider (15-4, 3.46 ERA) to the mound on Thursday. Strider is 4-1 in five August starts with a 2.37 ERA. He has been even better in his past three outings, going 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA while pitching seven innings each time. He is tied for the major league lead in wins. Strider faced the Dodgers on May 23 and gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings while absorbing the loss. He struck out 11 and walked three. In his only other start against Los Angeles, Strider went six scoreless innings last season in a no-decision. While the Dodgers are having one of the best months in franchise history, the Braves have gone an impressive 20-8 in August. |

The teams' four-game series opens Thursday night with a pair of right-handers making rare starts. Jakob Junis (4-3, 4.09 ERA in 35 appearances and three starts) will open for the Giants against the Padres' Pedro Avila (0-1, 2.63 ERA in eight appearances, two starts). Avila is making his second straight start. He gave up five runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings at Milwaukee on Saturday to take the loss. One of Avila's three previous major league starts came in his lone outing against the Giants. He gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in four innings during a loss on Oct. 1, 2021. Junis has appeared in relief twice since making back-to-back starts on Aug. 15 and 20. He has made three relief appearances against the Padres this season, including one in Mexico City. In those outings, he gave up 11 runs on 16 hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in eight innings for a 12.38 ERA. Five of the hits were home runs, four of those occurring in Mexico City. Junis if 1-0 lifetime against the Padres with a 9.26 ERA and a 1.714 WHIP in six games (three starts). |

08-31-23 | Yankees v. Tigers OVER 8.5 | 3-4 | Loss | -110 | 4 h 48 m | Show
Clarke Schmidt (8-8, 4.51 ERA), the Yankees' scheduled starter on Thursday, was a hard-luck loser in his latest outing. He gave up three runs in 6 2/3 innings at Tampa Bay on Saturday, but only one run was earned. The Yankees lost 3-0 to the Rays in that contest. The innings pitched and 99 pitches Schmidt threw were career highs. He will be opposed by another right-hander, Matt Manning (5-4, 3.93 ERA). In his most recent outing, Manning gave up just one unearned run and one hit in 6 1/3 innings during a no-decision against the Houston Astros on Friday. Manning tweaked his back in that game but he was able to recover quickly. He was originally scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, but manager A.J. Hinch decided to push back the start one day. |
|||||||
08-30-23 | Diamondbacks v. Dodgers UNDER 10 | Top | 0-7 | Win | 100 | 13 h 39 m | Show |
Although Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has not named a starter for Wednesday, right-hander Ryan Pepiot (0-0, 2.00 ERA) is expected to be part of the pitching plan once he is added to the roster. Pepiot allowed one run on three hits in four innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Cleveland Guardians. The Diamondbacks started the series with their two best starters, Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, but the duo combined to give up 13 runs in 10 2/3 innings in consecutive defeats. Arizona was feeling good of late as a winner in 10 of 12 games before arriving in Los Angeles. And while the Diamondbacks have found it hard to measure up against a first-place club, they are still in the wild-card hunt, a mere half game out of the third spot. The Diamondbacks are set to send right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (1-6, 5.91) to the mound Wednesday. The rookie has made 13 starts this season with one coming against the Dodgers on Aug. 8, when he took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. Pfaadt has been solid over his past three outings, posting a 2.50 ERA while earning his first career win on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds. |

08-30-23 | Rangers v. Mets +140 | Top | 5-6 | Win | 140 | 9 h 13 m | Show |
Dane Dunning (9-6, 3.36 ERA) is slated to start for the Rangers against fellow right-hander Denyi Reyes (0-2, 7.50). The Rangers pieced together another narrow win on Tuesday, when Mitch Garver homered to break a scoreless tie in the seventh inning and scored what proved to be the decisive run in the ninth as Texas edged the Mets 2-1. Reyes, who will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse prior to the Wednesday game, last pitched for the Mets on Aug. 12. In that game, he took the defeat after giving up five runs over 4 2/3 innings as New York lost 21-3 to the Atlanta Braves in the first game of a doubleheader. He has never faced the Rangers. |
|||||||
08-30-23 | Astros -133 v. Red Sox | 7-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 49 m | Show
Right-hander Kutter Crawford (6-6, 3.65 ERA) will look to give the Red Sox a much-needed strong start on Wednesday. Crawford struck out seven and allowed just two runs on four hits across five innings in a no-decision against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. In his lone career start vs. Houston, Crawford allowed just one run on seven hits across six innings in a victory on Aug. 2, 2022. Left-hander Framber Valdez (9-9, 3.40 ERA) will take the mound for Houston in the series finale. Valdez no-hit the Cleveland Guardians on Aug. 1 before allowing 16 runs (15 earned) on 24 hits over his next three starts, but he bounced back for seven no-hit innings on Friday in a no-decision at Detroit. Valdez worked around five walks and a hit batter vs. the Tigers. |

Both teams are chasing the third NL wild-card spot, with the Giants a half-game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks entering play Tuesday. Giants manager Gabe Kapler was still buzzing about his 22-year-old rookie pitcher's home debut well after the final pitch had been thrown on an 11-strikeout effort. The skipper left the ballpark hopeful of a carryover effect. |

Kremer (12-5, 4.31 ERA) is 4-1 in his past nine starts while lowering his ERA by 0.73 during that span. He has been especially sharp in August, entering Tuesday at 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA in four starts covering 24 1/3 innings. Chicago will turn to Jessie Scholtens, who is seeking his first win since joining the rotation on Aug. 1, to try to even the series. Scholtens (1-6, 4.15 ERA) is 0-3 with a 5.33 ERA in five starts this month. After pitching at least six innings in each of his first three starts, Scholtens has allowed 10 runs on 11 hits in 8 2/3 innings over his past two outings. Facing the Oakland Athletics on Thursday, he took a no-decision after scattering five runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings with no walks and four strikeouts. |

The White Sox list right-hander Michael Kopech (5-11, 4.95 ERA) as their starting pitcher for Monday night. He's coming off drastically different outings. On Aug. 18, he surrendered nine runs in four innings in a loss at Colorado. Then Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners, he threw four shutout innings while allowing one hit, though he walked four before departing with leg cramps. He has walked at least four batters in each of his last five outings, with 22 walks and 15 strikeouts during that stretch. Right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (3-3, 5.38) will be Baltimore's starter. The 23-year-old struggled to recover from a rough first inning that included a costly error by second baseman Jose Fermin. In the series finale, Chicago right-hander Javier Assad (2-2, 3.13 ERA) is scheduled to start opposite Pittsburgh left-hander Bailey Falter (1-7, 4.53). Assad was scheduled to start Saturday, but that got pushed back after the Cubs moved struggling starter Drew Smyly to the bullpen -- he pitched in Friday's game -- and put reliever Michael Fulmer (right forearm strain) on the 15-day injured list. They then recalled Wicks. Over his past four starts, Assad is 1-0 with a 2.86 ERA. His only career appearance against the Pirates came last season. He did not get a decision in a start on Sept. 23, 2022, pitching four innings and allowing four runs (three earned) and four hits. Falter got his first win with Pittsburgh his last time out, which was his fourth appearance since being acquired from Philadelphia. After making three starts for the Pirates, he pitched six innings last Monday against St. Louis in a scheduled long relief appearance, allowing one run and three hits and matching his career best with eight strikeouts. |

He had won six consecutive decisions before logging a loss and a no-decision in his past two outings, respectively. In his previous start, Aug. 14 against Seattle, he allowed just two runs on two hits in 7 1/3 innings, with one walk and eight strikeouts, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead. He's 1-0 with a 1.71 ERA in four career appearances against the Mariners, with three starts. On Friday, Chicago right-hander Kyle Hendricks (5-6, 3.83 ERA) is scheduled to start opposite Pittsburgh right-hander Mitch Keller (10-8, 4.22). Hendricks has gone 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA over his past three starts. On Sunday, he limited the Kansas City Royals to one run and five hits in 6 1/3 innings, with three strikeouts and one walk, en route to a 4-3 win. Keller might be rounding back into the early-season form that established him as Pittsburgh's ace. The All-Star lost five decisions in a row from July 3-Aug. 3. Since then, he had two no-decisions followed by a win his last time out, on Saturday at Minnesota. He has a 3.18 ERA over those three games. Against the Twins, he gave up two runs and seven hits while striking out 12 and walking one in six innings for his first win since June 28. He finished one strikeout shy of his career best. Keller is 2-4 with a 5.12 ERA in nine career games, eight of them starts, against the Cubs. He has not faced them this year. |

08-25-23 | Astros v. Tigers OVER 8.5 | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -122 | 7 h 52 m | Show |
In his past three outings, Framber Valdez hasn't come close to recreating the magic of the no-hitter he threw on Aug. 1. Following that gem against the Cleveland Guardians, Valdez has allowed 16 runs, 15 earned, and five home runs while going 0-2 with a 6.86 ERA in three starts. Valdez (9-9, 3.55 ERA) has allowed at least four runs in six of his past seven starts, the lone exception being the no-hitter. During his latest outing, on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners, he surrendered six runs and 10 hits in five innings. Matt Manning (5-4, 4.31 ERA) has overcome a rough patch and produced two straight solid outings. He limited Boston to one unearned run over 5 1/3 innings on Aug. 12, then held Cleveland to two runs (one earned) in six innings on Saturday. Manning, who was the winning pitcher in both games, had yielded 19 runs, 17 earned, in his previous three outings.
