2020 NFC North Predictions: Green Bay Packers
Packers Odds to Win 2021 Super Bowl: 33/1
Packers Odds to Win NFC Conference: 12/1
Packers Odds to Win NFC North Division: +125
The Packers‘ 13 wins in 2019 were tied for the most in the NFC, along with San Francisco and New Orleans. Green Bay won its Divisional Round matchup with Seattle before falling in the NFC Championship to the 49ers.
Green Bay won a fair number of close games and didn’t play the most difficult schedule. As a result, it was able to win 13 games without the most impressive team statistics.
In terms of yards per attempt, Green Bay was average in both passing and rushing attacks. The offense did commit the second fewest turnovers in the league, however.
Aaron Rodgers threw just four interceptions and, more importantly, started all 16 games for the second consecutive season. He’s started all 16 in five out of the last six years.
His working relationship with Head Coach Matt LaFleur should only improve with a full year of experience in the books. He could also benefit from a more stable receiving corps. Devin Funchess did join the fray in the offseason.
2020 NFC North Predictions: Minnesota Vikings
Vikings Odds to Win 2021 Super Bowl: 33/1
Vikings Odds to Win NFC Conference: 14/1
Vikings Odds to Win NFC North Division: +225
The Vikings finished 2019 10-6 in the regular season and won a game in the Wild Card Round before falling to San Francisco.
Offensive Coordinator Kevin Stefanski took the head coaching job in Cleveland and Stefon Diggs was dealt to Buffalo.
The offense, therefore, will again rely on Dalvin Cook, who broke out for over 1600 rushing and receiving yards in 13 touchdowns in 14 games.
Backup runner Alexander Mattison ran the ball just as effectively as Cook in his 100 carries in 2019. Both guys were right around 4.5 yards per attempt on the year. Expect the run game to stay strong in 2020.
2020 NFC North Predictions: Chicago Bears
Bears Odds to Win 2021 Super Bowl: 50/1
Bears Odds to Win NFC Conference: 20/1
Bears Odds to Win NFC North Division: +300
The Bears struggled to an 8–8 record in 2019 after such a strong 2018 regular season. Mitchell Trubisky did not make the improvements many were hoping he would last season and now he’s on the hot seat.
That’s because the Bears not only parted with a fourth round draft pick but also agreed to pay Nick Foles’ huge salary to bring in the veteran quarterback to compete for the job with Trubisky.
One would think Foles will be the starter because he’s just too expensive not to play. That isn’t how the Bears are framing it, though. The two will compete for the job in training camp and the preseason.
2020 NFC North Predictions: Detroit Lions
Lions Odds to Win 2021 Super Bowl: 150/1
Lions Odds to Win NFC Conference: 40/1
Lions Odds to Win NFC North Division: 8/1
Matt Patricia’s second season as Detroit’s head coach went even worse than his first. The Lions finished with just three wins.
Detroit will run back much of the same lineup in 2020 with Matthew Stafford surrounded by some talented skill players. The offensive line is the bigger worry, however.
That and the defense, which gave up the most passing yards in the league a season ago. If Patricia can’t tighten it up on that side of the ball, he may not last much longer in Detroit.
Cappers Picks 2020 NFC North Predictions
Call me crazy, but this might not be a bad spot to take the underdog.
Detroit has the talent on offense to compete in a division that is a little deficient in playmakers. If that defense can improve and get to be at least league average, there’s a chance to cash a nice +800 payday.
