2023 AFC West Analysis
Chiefs
The Chiefs had an amazing season in 2022, finishing with a 14-3 record and winning the Super Bowl. With Kelce and Mahomes back, things are looking good for Kansas City.
They’ve won the AFC West title for the seventh year in a row. The 2023 NFL season kicks off with a game against the Detroit Lions on September 7th at Arrowhead Stadium, which is a big deal for the defending champs. They drafted Quentin Johnston and brought in Kellen Moore as Offensive Coordinator to boost their offense. But they’ve had a quiet offseason overall. The return of J.C. Jackson from injury would make a big difference.
Their season starts with a tough game against the Miami team known for their strong defense. If the Chargers’ new-look offense can perform well against one of the best defenses in the league, it would be a good sign. But there are doubts about whether their defense is strong enough to stop the Chiefs and the Broncos.
The Chargers’ best-case scenario is staying in the race for the division title, and their Week 18 game against the Chiefs could decide it all.
Broncos
The Broncos are hoping that Sean Payton and Russell Wilson can turn things around. They still have one of the best rosters in the NFL, but there are concerns about Wilson’s recent performance.
The trade with the Seahawks didn’t seem to work in their favor. Wilson needs to have a better season, and they’re relying on Marvin Mims Jr. and Tim Patrick to be playmakers. There are also questions about Javonte Williams’ recovery from surgery. They have a tough schedule, facing strong opponents.
