The Ravens head to Oakland for an AFC match up with the Raiders and the lower of this game will be at 0-2 and behind the 8-ball early in the season.
While the Ravens played solid defense in their season opening against the Broncos their offense struggled. However, there is a good chance they will get back on track facing a Raiders’ defense that gave up 396 total yards in their loss to the Bengals.
The Raiders got a scare in the loss to the Bengals when starting QB Derek Carr went out with a hand injury. However, the injury is not a bad one and he should get the start in this AFC match up.
The last time these 2 teams met it was in 2012 and a game in Oakland where the fans would like to forget with the Ravens beating the Raiders in a 55-20 blowout.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore defense did their job in the loss to the Broncos holding Peyton Manning to 24 of 40 for 175 yards and they also had a pick-6. They also sacked Manning 4 times and the Oakland offensive line will have their work cut out for them this Sunday.
While Manning did not have a good game in the season opener Baltimore QB Joe Flacco was even worse going 18/32 for only 117 yards with 2 INT. #1 WR Steve Smith only had 2 passes and last season’s big surprise in Justin Forsett only had 43 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Still, they faced a Denver defense, which is solid while the same cannot be said about the Oakland D.
The Raiders gave up 269 passing yards and 127 rushing yards in the 33-13 loss to the Bengals. They also did not force any turnovers in the game.
Oakland Raiders
The Raiders were excited heading into the season with Carr having a solid rookie season last year and the new WR duo of Michael Crabtree and 1st round draft pick Amare Cooper.
In the season opener this duo combined to catch 10 of 17 passes for 84 yards and 0 TD. Carr has to find these guys to make plays and it is key that his offensive line give him time in the pocket.
Latavius Murray only had 44 rushing yards in the Bengals loss, but the Raiders had to go to the air after they were down big early. Oakland needs to establish a ground game early with Murray leading the way.
It will be key that the 2 defensive ends of Justin Tuck and Khalil Mack pressure Flacco and not give him a ton of time, as if they do he may torch the suspect Oakland secondary.
