2016 Washington Redskins Handicapping
That’s bad news for a Washington team that lost all four of its games against teams with winning records last season.
A terrible stretch, including playoffs, with each of those losses coming by at least two touchdowns, falling to the New York Jets by 14 points, the New England Patriots by 17, the Carolina Panthers by 28, and the Green Bay Packers by 17.
That could mean for a major step backward for the 2016 Redskins.
2016 Redskins Roster Changes
After many, many epic failures on the free agent market, the Redskins were back to making a splash late in the process when All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman was kicked to the curb by the Carolina Panthers.
Alfred Morris put his Washington career in the rearview mirror by signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

There wasn’t much beyond that. Wide receiver Josh Doctson could be an immediate impact player if he’s able to pick up the playbook in a hurry.
Had the Panthers not cut ties with normal and the Redskins not capitalized in a hurry, it would have been a very boring offseason in Washington.
2016 Washington Redskins Predictions: Offense
Kirk Cousins posted a 101.6 quarterback rating in 2015.
While it’s easy to point at the strength of schedule, he did peak down the stretch, which could be a sign he’s turned the corner.
He threw for 19 touchdowns and ran for three more while tossing only two interceptions in the second half of the season, then three for 329 yards and a touchdown, rushing for another touchdown in the playoff game against the Packers.

Doctson joins a deep group of pass-catchers, headlined by tight end Jordan Reed, DeSean Jackson, and Pierre Garcon.
Reed is the lynchpin of that group, hauling in 87 balls for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 healthy games last season – all career highs, then caught nine of 17 targets for 120 yards and a score against Green Bay.
He’s always been great when healthy, but it’s the staying on the field part that’s been an issue.
With Morris gone the bulk of carries figure to go to Matt Jones, a second year pro out of Florida who showed flashes as a rookie. He’ll share time with Chris Thompson who will take on a receiving role out of the backfield.
2016 Washington Redskins Predictions: Defense
Norman’s the big addition on defense, along with draft pick Su’a Cravens out of USC, who is expected to play linebacker.
Norman figures to play a lot more man-to-man coverage in Washington after playing a lot of zone in Carolina, but he has the talent that can translate.

Chris Baker had a very strong 2015 season, but the front-seven was still a weakness for the team, and figures to be again this season. Trent Murphy moves from outside linebacker to defensive end in hopes of jumpstarting that group.
2016 Washington Redskins Analysis:
It would be foolish to expect Cousins to continue to play the way he did over the second half of last season and into the playoffs.
That was Hall of Fame type production. But the team’s receiving corps will be explosive with Doctson and a healthy Jackson, and Reed providing the safety valve.
They’ll need to score points and do so through the air because Jones can’t be relied on to move the ball on the ground. Norman should make the defense better all on his own, but there are still a lot of weaknesses in that group.
Seven or eight wins may be a tall order to ask from this group.
