The struggling Brooklyn Nets host a slightly resurgent Phoenix Suns group, Tuesday, October 31 in interconference play.
After opening the season with three wins in five games vs. quality opposition, Kenny Atkinson’s Nets have lost two of three and are dealing with a rash of injuries.
Conversely, after dropping three-consecutive to begin its campaign, Phoenix has won two of three and is amid a three-day competitive break.
Phoenix Suns
Following upset wins against Utah and Sacramento, the Suns lost a hard-fought road contest in Portland, 114-107 before receiving a lengthy rest period. Opposite the potent Blazers, 70-point club member Devin Booker added 34 points on 19 field-goal attempts. However, limiting Damian Lillard (25 points, nine assists) and CJ McCollum (23 points) proved too much for the league’s 25th-ranked defense.
Further, as Booker reverted to one-man show status, seven Blazers scored ten or more points while controlling the glass 53-46.
Still, in defeat, Phoenix’s latest showing was a far-cry from its 126-74 opening-night embarrassment suffered against Portland.

Six games into the season, Phoenix is led by potent wings Booker (20.5 ppg) and T.J. Warren (14 ppg). Meanwhile, traditional bigs Tyson Chandler (9.4 rbs) and Alex Lin (8.4 rbs) combine with young talent Marquese Chriss (7.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg), Tyler Ulis (7 ppg, 3 apg) and rookie Josh Jackson (10.7 ppg) to bolster an uplifted Suns attack.
This improvement certainly belies Phoenix’s bottom-five status among the ‘big 3′ team categories of OffRtg, DefRtg, and Point Differential. Since Oct. 23rd, the Suns rank ninth defensively, 13th offensively, and wield the 11th-best NetRtg league wide.

Even so, Phoenix will need to shake rust, and rely on balanced teamwork to claim its first road win of the 17-18 campaign. The Suns and Nets each rely heavily on pace: another key cog for a Phoenix slight-dog upset is ball protection. If Earl Watson’s uptempo crew can limit turnovers (27th in NBA) a Halloween night win is attainable.
Brooklyn Nets
After some preseason hype, and convincing early wins, Brooklyn has hit a roadblock since upending Orlando and Cleveland during the season’s inaugural week.
While the team rallied after losing injury-plagued guard Jeremy Lin in its regular-season opener, the hot-hands of D’Angelo Russell and DeMarre Carroll have cooled. Russell’s last three contests have seen the 21-year-old shoot 39/29 from the field, and Carroll’s left ankle is a source of concern causing the grizzled vet to miss Brooklyn’s 124-111 Monday-night loss vs. Denver.

Following a creditable 3-2 start, Kenny Atkinson’s once-blitzing offensive scheme has faltered. Over a four-game span, the Nets rank 27th in FG%, 28th defensively, and sport the NBA’s 28th-worst net rating.
Obviously, these trends must be reversed for Brooklyn to defeat even a sub-par visitor such as Phoenix.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Brooklyn is 8-2 SU vs. Phoenix in the teams’ last ten meetings
- Brooklyn is 3-1 SU at home this season
- Phoenix is 3-3 ATS this season
- Phoenix is 2-1 SU in its last three contests
Free Phoenix Suns vs.Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
Though Brooklyn is slumping, as Phoenix is hitting a positive stride, in this contest the benefit of the doubt goes to the home-standing Nets.
Look for each team’s pace to be considerable. However, the Nets’ ball-handling and overall group synergy should outlast the young Suns who haven’t competed since Oct. 28.
Further, the battle between youthful-standouts D’Angelo Russell and Devin Booker will be entertaining.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Nets -2
DeMarre Carroll (ankle) and spark-plug Quincy Acy (groin strain) did not play Sunday vs. Denver and remain day-to-day. Meanwhile, D’Angelo Russell has dealt with recent knee issues but is playing through the discomfort. For Phoenix, Eric Bledsoe (disciplinary reasons) remains sidelined.
