There’s the old saying that goes “anything can happen once you get in.” Well that couldn’t be more true for the Pittsburgh Steelers who snuck into the playoffs and will now have to partake in Wildcard Weekend. Pittsburgh needed a win in Week 17 combined with a Jets loss to get in and that scenario played out perfectly.

Pittsburgh saw Ben Roethlisberger go down twice this season, but overcame both injuries. They saw Le’Veon Bell go down with a season ending injury and overcame that. They won’t have Bell, but they’ll have Roethlisberger back and ready to go as they try to capture Superbowl 50.
Ben Roethlisberger
Big Ben needed to overcome two serious injuries this season to get to this spot. While Mike Vick and Landry Jones both stepped up in his place, the offense still wasn’t the same.

Roethlisberger threw for 3938 yards and added 21 touchdowns to his credit. This team just has a much different feel when he’s under center.
The Steelers QB also has the experience. He’s played in 3 Superbowls and won 2 of them.
Stars out wide
The Steelers have plenty of weapons for Roethlisberger to work with. The two main ones are Martavis Bryant and Antonio Brown.

Bryant finished the regular season with 765 yards and had 6 touchdowns to his credit. Antonio Brown looked completely different when he had Boethlisberger throwing to him. Brown finished with 1834 yards and 10 touchdowns.
These two give the Steelers plenty of speed and downfield threats to make huge plays.
Defense Playing With Momentum
The Steelers defense hasn’t been dominant by any means this season.
However, they finally started to figure things out late which got Pittsburg rolling. Pittsburgh finished the season 4-1 and during those 5 games, the defense had 12 takeaways.
There’s No Place Like The Road
Being the 6 seed, Pittsburgh will hit the road for every contest, starting with their Wild Card game in Cincinnati.
While they went just 5-3 this season away from home, that number is skewed a little bit. Pittsburgh’s three road losses came at New England, Kansas City, and Seattle. All three of those teams are top home teams in the NFL. The Steelers played all three tough and took them deep into the 4th quarter.
Pittsburgh will have to win 3 straight road games to win the AFC, while that’s no fun feat, they are the team that could do it.
Clutch Gene
The Steelers will have to play the top team every time on the road in their journey through the playoffs.
They’ll certainly endure times where they need big plays just to take the crowd out of it. If there is one team that has the players to make these clutch plays, it’s the Steelers.

Ben Roethlisberger has that clutch gene in him. Back in the Superbowl when they played the Cardinals, he made one of the most memorable passes. Look for him to have to make a similar type play once or twice per game if the Steelers hope to steal games on the road.
