Ole Miss opened the season with a 41-38 victory over No. 24 Louisville in Nashville.
The Rebels finished with 488 total yards, including 336 through the air, while scoring 31 of their 41 points after halftime. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 21 of 36 passes for 336 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He also added a five-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter as Ole Miss built a 38-24 lead.
Kewan Lacy led the Rebels on the ground with 61 rushing yards. Ole Miss finished with 152 rushing yards as a team, giving the offense enough balance to complement Chambliss and the passing game.
Deuce Alexander supplied the biggest receiving plays of the opener. He caught five passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns, with both scores coming on 62-yard connections from Chambliss. Ole Miss also protected its quarterback well, allowing Louisville zero sacks.

Charlotte showed immediately that its new-look offense can move the football. The 49ers amassed 538 total yards against The Citadel, but the production was not enough in a 43-41 triple-overtime loss. Quarterback Cole Gonzales completed 28 of 41 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns.
The Western Carolina transfer also threw two interceptions, although he helped compensate by rushing for two touchdowns of his own.
Khamani Alexander gave Charlotte a big-play threat on the ground. He rushed 14 times for 138 yards and a touchdown, averaging 9.9 yards per carry.
His 66-yard touchdown run accounted for nearly half of that production on one snap. Jaylen Hampton emerged as Gonzales’ top target with eight receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Jaden Barnes added seven catches for 93 yards, while Derrick Eley contributed four receptions for 62 yards and another score.
The concern is on the other side of the football. Charlotte allowed The Citadel to rush for 268 yards on 50 attempts, and that unit now faces an Ole Miss offense that presents a completely different level of speed and depth.

49ers vs. Rebels QB Matchup
Trinidad Chambliss is firmly established as the Ole Miss starting quarterback after a breakout 2025 season. He opened 2026 by completing 21 of 36 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns against Louisville, while adding another touchdown on the ground.
Chambliss showed his explosive-play ability after halftime. Two of his touchdown passes went for 62 yards to Deuce Alexander, and he later found Caleb Odom for a 35-yard score. He finished the opener averaging 9.3 yards per pass attempt.
Cole Gonzales is Charlotte’s starter after transferring from Western Carolina.
His 322-yard debut included three touchdown passes and two interceptions, with Gonzales also producing 31 rushing yards and two scores on six attempts. Gonzales has capable weapons around him, but this is a significant change in defensive competition.
Charlotte’s offensive line and receivers will have to give him enough time and separation to avoid the turnovers that hurt the 49ers in Week 1.

Ole Miss can score quickly, yet this matchup does not require four quarters of aggression.
The Rebels produced 488 yards against Louisville, with Trinidad Chambliss throwing for 336 yards and three touchdowns. Still, Ole Miss had only 10 points at halftime before the opener turned into a shootout after the break. A comfortable lead here could turn the second half into a clock-management exercise.
That game script is the key to this total, especially if Ole Miss builds an early cushion.
Charlotte showed enough offensive ability in Week 1. On the other hand, moving the ball against The Citadel is much different than doing it on the road against No. 9 Ole Miss.
I see the Rebels controlling the matchup without needing a track meet. I’ll take Under 61.5 and call for something around 45-13.
