LSU opened around a 31.5-point favorite, and Louisiana Tech +35.5 remains available in the market. The Bulldogs are priced well above +3000 on the moneyline, leaving little doubt about which team sportsbooks expect to control Saturday night.
The total is sitting around 55.5.
Louisiana Tech’s 80-point opener was its highest-scoring game as a Division I program. The 74-point margin was also the largest in a season opener against an FBS or FCS opponent in school history.
LSU had no trouble covering against Clemson, scoring 51 despite an interception on its second offensive snap. The Tigers also missed a field goal in the second quarter before pulling away for a 31-3 halftime lead.
There is some useful history attached to this large spread. Louisiana Tech visited Tiger Stadium last season as a 36.5-point underdog and covered comfortably in a 23-7 loss, holding LSU to only two touchdowns.

LSU’s offense looked completely different in Lane Kiffin’s debut. The Tigers piled up 644 yards against Clemson, with 335 through the air and 309 on the ground. They also generated a school-record 38 first downs.
Sam Leavitt created problems with both his arm and legs, throwing for 230 yards and rushing for another 113. He accounted for three touchdowns despite throwing an interception on LSU’s second offensive play.
Dilin Jones gave LSU another 100-yard threat on the ground.
Jones rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns, matching Leavitt’s rushing total. It marked the first time since 2023 that LSU produced two 100-yard rushers in the same game.
The defense provided its own points when Jordan Ross returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. Clemson never recovered from the early pressure.
The final numbers were ugly for the visitors. Clemson finished with only 145 total yards and eight first downs, while running just six plays in LSU territory all night. Three of those came immediately after Leavitt’s interception.

Bulldogs Stats
Louisiana Tech’s opener turned into a record-setting night almost immediately. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on their first 11 possessions, something the program had never accomplished before. Their 63 first-half points were also the most in a half in school history.
Blake Baker did most of his damage before halftime, completing 10 of 14 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Trey Kukuk went 4-for-4 for 45 yards and two scores, while Joshua Brantley added a 16-yard touchdown pass on a trick play.
The Bulldogs spread the rushing workload around.
Kukuk led Louisiana Tech with 50 yards on the ground. Dylone Brooks added 48 yards and a touchdown, while Talyn Shettron, Sergio Snider and Jaden Miller also produced rushing scores.
Louisiana Tech was just as dominant defensively, allowing only 129 total yards and seven first downs. Northwestern State averaged only 1.9 yards per rushing attempt, and the Bulldogs piled up 13 tackles for loss.
The defense also recorded two sacks and an interception while holding Northwestern State to 4-of-19 combined on third and fourth down. That unit faces a massive jump in competition against an LSU offense that overwhelmed Clemson.

Bulldogs vs. Tigers QB Matchup
LSU has no quarterback question entering Week 2. Sam Leavitt is the starter after transferring in and immediately producing 343 total yards against Clemson.
His debut wasn’t mistake-free, but it showed exactly why LSU wanted him.
Leavitt completed 16 of 28 passes for 230 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He was even more dangerous on the ground, rushing for 113 yards and two scores before Landen Clark took over late in the third quarter.
Louisiana Tech is also set with Blake Baker atop the depth chart. Baker completed 10 of 14 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in the opener.
Trey Kukuk gives the Bulldogs another option behind him, and his first appearance couldn’t have been much cleaner. Kukuk completed all four of his passes for 45 yards and two touchdowns while also leading Louisiana Tech with 50 rushing yards.
Neither Bulldogs quarterback needed to play deep into the game after Louisiana Tech built a 63-3 halftime lead.
Leavitt carries the much tougher Week 1 test and the deeper supporting cast, while Baker showed he can punish a defense when given clean looks. Louisiana Tech’s challenge is creating enough of those opportunities against an LSU defense that overwhelmed Clemson.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. LSU Tigers bottom line: LSU owns the deeper roster and dominant Week 1 defensive showing, while Louisiana Tech arrives after one of the biggest offensive performances in program history.

Here is my Bulldogs Tigers free pick: I’m taking Louisiana Tech +35.5. LSU looked every bit like a top-10 team against Clemson, but asking the Tigers to clear five touchdowns against a Bulldogs team that defended well last season is a different kind of bet.
Louisiana Tech’s opener was against lighter competition, yet 80 points gets your attention. Blake Baker threw three touchdown passes, and the Bulldogs scored touchdowns on their first 11 possessions.
Louisiana Tech held Northwestern State to 129 total yards and only seven first downs.
That defensive effort matters more to me than the 80 on the scoreboard. LSU has the explosive advantage. Tech showed enough discipline to make the Tigers work for possessions.
Last year’s 23-7 meeting is also useful context. Louisiana Tech covered comfortably in Baton Rouge and held LSU to two touchdowns, so this isn’t a matchup where I need the Bulldogs to trade scores all night.
LSU is better offensively under Lane Kiffin, no question.
Still, this line has climbed from around 31.5 to 35.5. That’s a lot of tax after one dominant LSU performance, especially with Louisiana Tech coming off a clean opener of its own.
I’ll take the points and make LSU prove it can win by six touchdowns. Give me Louisiana Tech +35.5.
