The Detroit Lions are fresh off of a last minute victory against Minnesota on Thanksgiving Day, where they didn’t play overly well and were able to get the ball back with 30 seconds due to a terrible Sam Bradford interception and let Matt Prater kick the field goal for the win.
Kickoff is set for 10:00 AM ET with QB Matt Stafford and his Lions, facing off against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints in what should be gunslingers duel.
Detroit Lions
Veteran QB, Matt Stafford, has helped lead his Detroit Lions to a first place seeding in the NFC North through week-12, with a 7-4 record.

The loss of Calvin Johnson hasn’t appeared to slow down Stafford any, and he looks comfortable spreading the ball around.
Stafford has thrown for 2,883 yards with 19 TDs as opposed to just 5 INTs this season, and has a passer rating of 99.3%, which has been helped by a 66.8 completion percentage.
Possibly his favorite target is his passing downs back out of the backfield, Theo Riddick, who is a dual threat back as he has 355 rushing yards to lead the team, and also another 356 through the air.
The explosive runner is a nice compliment to veteran wideouts Marvin Jones and Golden Tate, as well as TE Eric Ebron.

The Lions defense is still a work in progress, but has improved over years past. They rank 15th in both total yards allowed on the year (3,888), and also in points per game, allowing an average of 21.6.
Darius Slay has developed into one of the better corners in the league and Tahir Whitehead leads the Lions with 101 total tackles.
New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees leads the league in overall passing yards on the season, with 3,587. Brees is coming off of a four TD week against a Rams defense that graded out as above average entering the game.
The 37-year old veteran has a passer rating of 109.1 on the season (third amongst QBs) and 30 TDs, which is also good for the league lead.
The trio of Brandon Cooks, Michael Thomas and Willy Snead gives Brees three solid targets to throw to, all of whom have over 590 yards on the year. The rookie, Michael Thomas, leads the team in yards with 789 and 7 TDs.
Mark Ingram has amassed 721 yards on the ground, with 3 touchdowns but also two lost fumbles.
The fumbles saw Ingram benched for parts of a couple of weeks, but he’s come back strong and rushed for 146 yards and as TD, plus added another 21 receiving and a second TD. Ingram is now averaging a strong 5.3 YPC on the year.

The Saints’ defense hasn’t been a good one for as long as I can remember, no matter who’s been in charge of it.
They have some decent players, namely Craig Robertson, who has 96 combined tackles which is good for 10th in the NFL this season.
Kenny Vaccaro is also a nice asset, as is Cameron Jordan, but the Saints defense as a whole sits 30th overall in points allowed at an average of 27.9 per game.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Detroit is 2-3 on the road
- Combined, the two teams are allowing an average of 49.5 points per game
- New Orleans has tallied the most total yards this season on offense with 4,775
- New Orleans is scoring the second most points per game with 30.4, only behind Atlanta’s 32.5
- New Orleans is 3-3 at home this year

Both of these two teams have gunslinger Quarterbacks and bad defenses for the most part. I think this will be a QB duel that will be a point race and the game script will dictate the teams need to keep throwing.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Detroit 28 – New Orleans 31
I like that the Saints are at home in the SuperDome, because Brees has some extreme home-road splits and Brandin Cooks has an excellent history on the turf.
This should be one of the more entertaining games of the week to watch and I’m calling for a Stafford-Brees shootout.
