Rose has officially been cleared in his civil trial, meaning the focus can switch back to basketball.
Now, the hope out of New York is that the Knicks can live up to Rose’s sentiment that this group is one of the NBA’s newest “superteams” — or, you know, live up to even half of that considering the current makeup of the roster and blatant silliness (official term) that came with the claim.
New York Knicks Strengths:
Critique him all you want, but the biggest strength on this team has been and continues to be Carmelo Anthony.
He’s a point-forward who can dominate a game with his scoring ability, and despite that point-forward capability, he may be most dominant when he’s playing the 4 and scoring in the low post.

Alongside Melo is the Unicorn, Kristaps Porzingis. He’s a rare breed who can hit three-pointers despite his lengthy 7-foot frame, and his signature move just might be put-back dunks — something he did plenty of during his rookie season in 2015-16.
In terms of coaching, Jeff Hornacek should prove to be a better lead man than Derek Fisher.
The latter struggled to make a name for himself during the early portion of his coaching career; unless, of course, you want to go into his off-court headlines he made involving Matt Barnes.
Looking at Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, if they begin to resemble their former selves, the team not only has two players who were once regarded as top-tier for their respective positions, but also two guys who have played together and know one another’s game.
That said, there are concerns regarding the two new additions that can’t be overlooked entering the 2016-17 season.
New York Knicks Weaknesses:
Health has to be the primary cause for pause when looking at New York’s immediate outlook.
If Rose is healthy and can use his scoring ability (not to mention his drive-and-kick ability) to improve New York’s offense, that’s excellent news for the Knicks. The problem is that he hasn’t proven he can stay healthy in quite some time.
Furthermore, his jump shot is an ongoing issue even when injuries aren’t part of his personal narrative.
When it comes to Noah, you have a player who can not only defend the low post, but can also create for others with his passing ability and court vision out of the high post.
But again, health is a concern here, and you have to wonder just how many games you’re going to get from the new tandem out of Chicago.

When it comes down to it, this team added some other nice pieces in Courtney Lee and even Brandon Jennings if he can lock into a scorer’s mindset without sacrificing efficiency.
But guys like this aren’t going to be the make-or-break type of players this team needs consistency out of.
That label belongs to the players previously mentioned; the other additions will be nice complementary pieces, only if the stars meet and exceed expectations.
New York Knicks Betting Prediction: 40-42
Vegas set the over/under win total for the Knicks at 31.5 back in September.
That number seemed low even back then, which is fitting considering the team’s championship odds have increased from 100-1 to 60-1 over the past three weeks.
Although we’re not ready to jump on Rose’s “Superteam” bandwagon — especially without knowing what kind of health issues New York will deal with this season — it’s virtually impossible to picture this squad not improving from last year’s 32-win showing.

Expect the Knicks to be right around .500 when the year comes to an end, but keep a close eye on the playing status of the team’s key cogs throughout the year.
