Seattle has been one of the league’s weaker rushing offenses, which makes sustained possessions harder to manufacture. San Francisco has the better balance, but facing Macdonald’s defense in Seattle is hardly a Sunday afternoon stroll. I expect both teams to spend some time figuring out what actually works.
That should keep the clock moving without producing a parade of touchdowns.
I’ll take the Under when both teams have reasons to value field position over chasing highlight-reel plays.
Here’s the part that worries me.
San Francisco has protected its quarterback exceptionally well, and Purdy can punish a defense that gives him time. Seattle also has the receiving talent to strike quickly. One busted coverage could make this ticket considerably less entertaining.
Still, I don’t need a defensive masterpiece.
I need contested third downs, fewer short fields and drives that require actual work. A couple of FG’s instead of TD’s would help, too.
