Texans vs. Titans Gameday
Two winless AFC South rivals. Somebody finally gets to celebrate Sunday.
The Houston Texans visit the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on October 11, 2026, with kickoff at 1:00 PM ET on CBS. Both teams enter Week 5 at 0-4, making this divisional meeting more urgent than anyone expected.
DeMeco Ryans has watched Houston lose four straight, several remaining competitive deep into the fourth quarter. The Texans have shown enough talent to compete, but interesting doesn’t count in the standings. At some point, moral victories stop being particularly moral.
Two teams are desperate for their first win, but Houston has shown considerably more reasons for optimism.
Robert Saleh’s Titans have also struggled to finish games.
Tennessee has dropped both home contests, leaving the coaching staff searching for answers. The Titans expected a fresh start under Saleh, not another October explaining miserable standings.
Houston swept the 2025 season series, including a narrow victory in Nashville. That provides some confidence, although neither team can take anything for granted.
It’s Week 5, Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans Odds & Last 5
The opening NFL betting odds favor Houston at -365 on the moneyline, with Tennessee returning +290. The Texans are laying 7.5 points, while the Titans are getting 7.5. The total is 37.5 points, reflecting modest scoring expectations.
Houston’s latest defeat came against Dallas, 34-30, after surrendering a late lead. Stroud threw for 347 yards and two TD’s, but the Cowboys scored the winner in the final minute.
Tennessee lost 24-18 at Baltimore after previously falling to the Giants, Eagles and Jets.
The Titans have remained competitive without finding a way to finish. Close losses are still losses, regardless of how enthusiastically the coaching staff describes the effort.
The Texans won 16-13 at Nissan Stadium in November 2025. Houston also shut out Tennessee 26-0 in the other meeting, completing the sweep. Recent history favors the visitors, although last year’s victories won’t block anybody Sunday.

Titans Stats
Tennessee ranks near the NFL’s bottom offensively, averaging approximately 261 yards and 14 points per game. Sustaining drives has been a problem.
That’s not much room for error.
The defense has been more competitive, allowing roughly 21 points per contest. Tennessee has eight sacks, ranking 16th, but allows approximately 123 rushing yards per game. Saleh needs better results when opponents establish favorable down-and-distance situations.
Tony Pollard has 221 rushing yards, while rookie Carnell Tate leads the receivers with 268. Tate caught nine passes for 145 yards against Baltimore, one of Tennessee’s few offensive bright spots.
Individual performances haven’t translated into consistent scoring.
The Titans produced three consecutive three-and-outs against Baltimore. That’s not exactly how you keep your defense fresh.
Injuries aren’t helping, either.
Safety Amani Hooker is out with a concussion, while Tate is questionable with a back injury. Tight end David Martin-Robinson and cornerback Joshua Williams are also questionable. Tennessee can hardly afford another missing offensive weapon.
Texans Stats
Houston has generated 1,375 offensive yards through four games, averaging approximately 344 per contest. The passing attack accounts for 1,141 yards, but the running game has produced only 316.
That imbalance makes Houston predictable in certain situations.
David Montgomery leads the rushing attack with 127 yards, while Woody Marks has 87. The Texans need more reliable ground production, especially when protecting leads.
Dalton Schultz has 214 receiving yards, with Nico Collins adding 193 despite missing time. Collins returned against Dallas with seven catches for 118 yards and two TD’s.
Houston’s defense has recorded 14 sacks, ranking third in the NFL. Will Anderson Jr. leads with 4.5, giving Ryans reliable pressure. Danielle Hunter and Jadeveon Clowney provide additional threats along the edge.
Unfortunately, pressure hasn’t always translated into timely stops.
Late breakdowns have repeatedly erased winning opportunities, particularly when opponents extend plays against the secondary. Ryans needs cleaner coverage rather than another impressive pressure total followed by a disappointing score.
Tank Dell is out with a knee injury. Offensive linemen Aireontae Ersery, Blake Fisher and Ed Ingram are questionable, while Azeez Al-Shaair and Anderson have no game designation. That’s encouraging news for Houston’s defense.
Houston has enough talent to end this losing streak, but the defense needs to finish what the offense starts.
Texans vs. Titans QB Matchup
C.J. Stroud enters Week 5 with 1,141 passing yards, five TD’s and zero interceptions. He’s completed 93 of 151 attempts, moving the football without routinely putting it in danger.
Stroud has also absorbed 12 sacks, reflecting protection problems. Houston needs cleaner pockets against Jeffery Simmons and Tennessee’s defensive front.
That’s easier said than done.
Cam Ward has thrown for 726 yards, three TD’s and two interceptions through four games. The second-year quarterback has shown promise, but Tennessee hasn’t consistently converted those moments into points.
Ward’s connection with Tate has become increasingly important.
If Tate is limited or unavailable, other receivers must find separation against Houston’s secondary. That’s a difficult assignment for an already struggling offense.

Stroud faces interior pressure whenever Simmons wins his matchup. Quick decisions and accurate underneath throws can keep Houston out of obvious passing situations.
Ward faces a different challenge.
Houston’s edge rushers can disrupt the pocket, forcing quick decisions before routes develop. Light rain is possible in Nashville, although conditions may improve before kickoff. Neither quarterback needs a wet football complicating an already uncomfortable afternoon.
Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans bottom line: Houston’s passing advantage meets Tennessee’s offensive inconsistency in a divisional matchup where protecting the football and finishing drives should decide the outcome.

Texans Titans Free Pick: Texans -7.5
Here is my Texans Titans free pick: I’m laying Houston Texans -7.5. That’s a hefty number for a winless road favorite, but Tennessee hasn’t shown enough to convince me it can handle playing from behind.
My concern isn’t whether Houston can score. It’s whether the Texans can turn an early advantage into a comfortable finish instead of inviting another fourth-quarter disaster.
The cover starts with field position.
If Houston makes Tennessee drive the length of the field repeatedly, those seven and a half points become a lot less intimidating.
I expect Ryans to attack Ward with pressure while keeping enough defenders behind the ball to discourage cheap touchdowns. That approach can create punts, hurried throws and the occasional short field for Stroud. Houston doesn’t need a spectacular offensive afternoon if its defense supplies extra possessions.
The 37.5 total is a warning against getting carried away. Laying more than a touchdown in a game expected to feature limited scoring isn’t for the fainthearted.
I see a realistic path to a 24-13 type of finish. Tennessee needs Houston to keep making mistakes, and I’m betting the Texans finally stop cooperating.
The NFL betting system I’m rollin’ with favors the team capable of controlling the opponent’s possessions rather than simply piling up yards.
My NFL free pick is on the Texans -7.5.
