Giants vs. Commanders Gameday
First place meets desperation in the NFC East.
The New York Giants visit the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM ET on FOX, with New York at 3-1 and Washington at 1-3. A little rain might show up, although neither club needs help making things complicated.
John Harbaugh has the Giants playing meaningful football again. Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson have helped establish a more physical identity.
New York has the better record, but Washington has made this rivalry uncomfortable for years.
Dan Quinn’s Commanders need a response after an uneven opening month. The talent is there, but consistency has been harder to find than a parking spot outside the stadium. The Giants have won their first three home games.
Road success has been harder to come by, and Washington has controlled the recent series. That gives Harbaugh something else to address besides the standings.
It’s Week 5, New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders, hopefully we get a great matchup.

New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders Odds & Last 5
The opening NFL betting odds favor Washington at -186 on the moneyline, with New York returning +154. The Commanders are laying 3.5 points, while the Giants are getting 3.5. The total is 43.5 points.
New York enters after beating Arizona 36-24. The Giants recovered from an early deficit before pulling away, improving to three wins in four games. Washington’s latest defeat came against Indianapolis, 30-13, in London.
The Commanders also lost to Dallas and Philadelphia, with their lone victory coming against Seattle, 33-31. They’ve remained dangerous offensively, but defensive breakdowns have made life considerably harder than Quinn would prefer.
Washington won the most recent meeting 29-21 at MetLife Stadium in December 2025. The Commanders swept both meetings in each of the past two seasons. New York hasn’t beaten Washington since November 2023.
That’s a losing streak Harbaugh would undoubtedly enjoy ending.

Commanders Stats From Last Week
Washington has scored 88 points through four games, averaging 22 per contest. The offense produces approximately 315 yards per game, including 124 rushing yards. Passing production has been less impressive at roughly 191 yards per outing.
The defense has allowed 122 points, an average of 30.5 per game. Washington has been considerably stronger against the run, surrendering approximately 94 rushing yards compared with 243 through the air. That’s a fairly uncomfortable combination against a team willing to attack downfield.
The Commanders have struggled to get off the field in important situations. Coverage breakdowns have repeatedly put additional pressure on an offense that hasn’t always been able to answer.
Rachaad White provides a physical option in the backfield.
Terry McLaurin remains a dangerous receiving threat when healthy, but his availability is uncertain. Unfortunately, the injury list isn’t getting shorter.
Stefon Diggs is out with a hamstring injury, while McLaurin is questionable. Safeties Nick Cross, Percy Butler and Tyler Owens are out, along with defensive end Charles Omenihu. Cornerback Trey Amos is questionable, creating additional concerns in an already vulnerable secondary.
Giants Stats From Last Week
New York is averaging approximately 283 offensive yards per game. The passing attack generates roughly 173 yards per outing, while the ground game contributes around 111. Those aren’t glamorous numbers.
The Giants have compensated with a 43.4% third-down conversion rate, keeping possessions alive even when the offense lacks explosive plays. That’s important for a team that would rather avoid turning every Sunday into a track meet.
Defensively, New York allows approximately 20 points per game. The Giants have collected six interceptions, giving Wilson’s unit an ability to change games without needing the offense to deliver a masterpiece.
Malik Nabers caught six passes for 112 yards and a TD against Arizona. Isaiah Likely provides another receiving option, while Cam Skattebo brings physicality to the running game.
Arvell Reese has emerged as an important defender, particularly with Brian Burns sidelined. Still, the Giants haven’t consistently generated pressure, leaving their secondary to do more work than Wilson would like.
That’s a dangerous way to make a living against mobile quarterbacks.
Defensive lineman Chauncey Golston and safety Jason Pinnock are out. Nabers, Andrew Thomas and Skattebo practiced fully Friday and have no game designation. Harbaugh can at least welcome some stability on offense.
New York’s defense has created opportunities, but it cannot depend on interceptions to solve every problem.
Giants vs. Commanders QB Matchup
Jameis Winston starts for New York with Jaxson Dart unavailable. Winston has thrown for 479 yards, three TD’s and three interceptions across three appearances. His latest start showed both sides of the experience.
Winston passed for 250 yards and three TD’s against Arizona but also threw two interceptions. The arm talent is obvious, and so is the occasional decision that makes a defensive coordinator smile. Washington will try to exploit that inconsistency.
Jayden Daniels returns after missing two games with a dislocated left elbow. He’s completed 56.9% of his passes for 260 yards and three TD’s this season, adding 100 rushing yards.
Daniels will wear a protective brace on his non-throwing arm. His mobility remains important, although Quinn will want him avoiding unnecessary contact in his first game back.

Washington’s offensive line has been unsettled, making protection calls important against New York’s changing defensive looks. Wilson must find ways to manufacture pressure without exposing his coverage. Winston faces a secondary that has surrendered too many explosive plays.
If Nagy gives him time to work through his progressions, the Giants have opportunities beyond the sticks. Ball security will be critical for both quarterbacks. Rain could affect timing and grip.
The bigger concern, though, is decision-making under pressure.
Neither offense has consistently shown it can recover from self-inflicted mistakes, and divisional games rarely reward generosity.
New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders bottom line: Daniels’ return strengthens Washington, but New York’s defensive playmaking and opportunities against a vulnerable secondary should keep this NFC East matchup competitive.
New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders Football Betting Trends
- The Giants have a strong record against the spread as underdogs, going 6-3 in their last 9 regular season games.
- They also have a solid straight-up record as underdogs, achieving 3 wins and 1 loss in their last 4 regular season games.
- Also, New York has hit the over in 5 of their last 7 away games in the regular season.
- On the other hand, the Commanders have excelled in hitting the over after a loss, going 5-0 in their last 5 regular season games.
- Plus, Washington has gone over the total in 6 of their last 7 home games during the regular season.
- The Commanders have struggled straight-up at home, with a 1-2 record in their last 3 regular season games.
Giants Commanders Free Pick: Giants +3.5
Here is my Giants Commanders free pick: I’m taking New York Giants +3.5. Washington is favored because Daniels is back, but that doesn’t automatically make the Commanders a trustworthy favorite.
The extra half-point above a FG is the attraction.
I see Washington having enough success to threaten a straight-up win, but not necessarily enough to build a comfortable lead. Its problems finishing possessions and protecting the quarterback leave the door open for New York to hang around. That’s exactly the kind of game where catching 3.5 matters.
Washington might win the afternoon, but the Giants can still win my bet.
Winston is the obvious danger. Give him too much responsibility and he’ll occasionally treat an opposing defensive back like an eligible receiver. Harbaugh needs a sensible game plan, not a passing contest.
New York can shorten possessions with its ground game and keep the pressure on Washington to finish drives. If the Commanders settle for FG’s, that hook becomes awfully useful.
I’m not asking the Giants to dominate.
I’m asking Washington to prove it deserves more than a field goal, and I haven’t seen enough to pay that price.
Give me the division underdog and the points. My NFL free pick is on the G-Men +3.5.
