11-09-22 | Hurricanes +100 v. Panthers | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 13 m | Show |
Matthew Tkachuk, who leads the Florida Panthers in assists (12) and points (17), will serve the second and final game of his NHL suspension on Wednesday night when his squad hosts the Carolina Hurricanes in Sunrise, Fla. While it's never ideal to lose a leading scorer, the Panthers might have found a silver lining. After Tkachuk was penalized and later suspended for a dangerous hick-stick of Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick on Saturday, Panthers coach Paul Maurice went to work on reshaping his lines. On Sunday, Maurice put Sam Reinhart and Anton Lundell together on the second line, and it clicked in a 5-3 win over the host Anaheim Ducks. Reinhart, who had been slumping, had two goals, and Lundell had a pair of assists as the Panthers closed their four-game trip with a 2-2-0 record. |

11-08-22 | Stars -115 v. Jets | Top | 1-5 | Loss | -115 | 8 h 38 m | Show |
The Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets are showing they can hang in there with the top teams in the NHL. Looking for a season-high fourth consecutive victory, the visiting Stars will try to keep the Jets from running their point streak to seven games on Tuesday night. Dallas currently sits atop the Central Division with 17 points, and Winnipeg is two behind. Each club is amid a 6-3-1 stretch and playing with plenty of confidence. Aiming for a third straight road victory, the Stars have outscored their opponents 18-6 in November and gone 6-for-11 on the power play while winning all three games. Jamie Benn recorded a hat trick and Jason Robertson posted a goal with two assists as Dallas won 6-2 at Edmonton on Saturday. "Things are going good, and we want to continue that," said the 33-year-old Benn, who has four goals and four assists in the last three games. Robertson has scored six times during a career-high five-game goal streak, during which he's also recorded 11 of his team-leading 18 points. |

11-08-22 | Oilers v. Lightning OVER 6.5 | 3-2 | Loss | -118 | 7 h 44 m | Show
Nick Perbix's NHL star never shined brighter than over the weekend, but now the Lightning defenseman and his fellow blue-liners will be chasing a few of the league's top superstars. On Tuesday night in Tampa, the Lightning will host Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers, one of the league's highest-scoring squads. In his ninth NHL game Saturday night, Perbix made his presence known late against the Buffalo Sabres by scoring his first career goal. That tally put the Lightning up 4-3 with 4:55 left, and they went on to a 5-3 victory. The 24-year-old Minneapolis native hammered home a shot past Sabres goalie Eric Comrie, giving the former St. Cloud State standout his first goal and first game-winning tally in one swing. "Pretty surreal, honestly," Perbix said. "It's something you always dream of, and for it to be a game-winner makes it that much sweeter. I just hopped on the ice, saw we had a rush and tried to make the most of it." Tampa Bay forward Nikita Kucherov is on quite a run, too. He has points in 10 straight games (six goals, 13 assists) and has found the net in six consecutive matches. The four-point outing against Buffalo was the 20th time he had at least four points in a game, setting a franchise record, as the Lightning improved to 4-0-1 in their past five games. |

11-08-22 | Flames v. Devils -134 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 7 h 30 m | Show
Forty solid minutes over the last two periods of regulation weren't enough for the Calgary Flames against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. And 40 solid minutes over the first two periods weren't enough for the Flames against the New York Islanders on Monday night. The skidding Flames will again look to put together a complete effort on Tuesday night, when they visit the Devils in Newark, N.J., in the second game of a three-game, East Coast road trip. The Flames squandered a two-goal, third-period lead against the Islanders on Monday night and fell 4-3 in overtime in Elmont, N.Y. The defeat was the fifth straight for Calgary, which held the lead in four of those losses and in five of its six defeats this season. The surging Devils won their sixth straight game Saturday when they frittered away a two-goal, first-period lead in Calgary before Fabian Zetterlund scored 2:38 into overtime to lift New Jersey to a 4-3 victory. The Flames, who scored 89 seconds after the opening faceoff on Saturday but trailed 3-1 after the first period, got off to a much faster start on Monday. Calgary outshot the Islanders 30-12 through two periods and maintained a 3-1 lead until midway through the third period when New York's Anders Lee and Kyle Palmieri scored in a 59-second span. Palmieri's goal was an unassisted tally following a turnover deep in the New York zone by defenseman Nick DeSimone. |

11-08-22 | Golden Knights v. Maple Leafs UNDER 6.5 | 4-3 | Loss | -105 | 6 h 25 m | Show
The Vegas Golden Knights will try to extend their seven-game winning streak Tuesday night when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have won three straight. The Maple Leafs are coming off key back-to-back wins -- 2-1 over the visiting Boston Bruins on Saturday and 3-1 over the host Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday. They started the streak with a 5-2 home victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. Vegas, meanwhile, defeated the Montreal Canadiens 6-4 on Saturday in the third of five consecutive road games. "We cannot take it for granted, for sure," said Vegas winger Jonathan Marchessault, who had a goal and an assist at Montreal. "Winning in (this) league is pretty hard. We got a reality check last year." The Maple Leafs have rebounded from a four-game losing streak and so far have been able to deal with the loss of goaltender Ilya Samsonov (knee) after the second period on Saturday. Samsonov is expected to be out for at least one week. Erik Kallgren, who started the season as the No. 3 goaltender, made 29 saves on Sunday. |

11-08-22 | Coyotes v. Sabres OVER 6.5 | 4-1 | Loss | -115 | 6 h 11 m | Show
After what head coach Don Granato described as a "learning point" of a loss to the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Buffalo Sabres will look to rebound when they host the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday. Thanks to Jeff Skinner's goal early in the third period, Buffalo held a 3-2 lead through 47 minutes of Saturday's game with the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, the Lightning then showed their mettle in scoring three unanswered goals for the 5-3 comeback win. "We lost that game because of a difference in experience, not skill. That was evident when you look at the detail of it," Granato said. While the coach praised the Sabres' effort level, Granato felt "we didn't play an experienced enough game down the stretch, specifically." It didn't help that the Sabres were again missing a key defenseman. Just as Ilya Lyubushkin returned from a four-game injury absence, Rasmus Dahlin was a late scratch from the lineup. Dahlin is day-to-day with an upper-body injury and is questionable to face the Coyotes. |
|||||||
11-07-22 | Oilers -155 v. Capitals | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -155 | 7 h 8 m | Show |
The Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals will be looking to return to their winning ways when they meet on Monday night in Washington, D.C. The Capitals have lost their past four games and surrendered a lead in each contest. Washington gave up three goals in the third period to the visiting Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night and lost 3-2. Washington hasn't scored more than three goals in a game in its last six. "It has kind of been the same story for the last four games," Washington coach Peter Laviolette said. "We have not been scoring a lot of goals, so if you are not scoring a lot of goals, you have got to pay attention to defense." The Oilers will be trying to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season following five straight wins. Edmonton is coming off a 6-2 loss to the visiting Dallas Stars on Saturday night to cap a three-game homestand. |

11-06-22 | Panthers v. Ducks OVER 6.5 | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 48 m | Show
Considering the way the Panthers have fared against the Ducks of late, a visit to Anaheim, Calif., might be what Florida needs to rebound from another frustrating road setback. The road-weary Panthers will aim for a fifth consecutive victory over the Ducks on Sunday night. Florida has played eight of its 12 games on the road and is 3-5-0 in those contests. After Thursday's 4-3 shootout win at San Jose, the Panthers blew a pair of leads, and allowed the winning goal late in the third period, of a 5-4 loss at Los Angeles on Saturday. The Panthers have allowed 24 goals during their past six road games. "It (stinks) losing, and we're going to come back (Sunday) and be better," said Florida's Carter Verhaeghe, who scored twice Saturday to raise his season goal total to seven. "Getting some recovery. Forgetting about (Saturday's loss) and just moving on." It was the third multi-goal game this season for Verhaeghe, who has scored five times in the past four contests. He doesn't have any goals but has recorded two assists in his only three career games against the Ducks. After Sergei Bobrovsky (3.29 goals-against average) stopped 34 of 39 shots on Saturday, Spencer Knight could start in net for the Panthers. Knight has a 2.53 GAA while winning three of his four starts this season. Knight's first career shutout came when he needed to stop only 17 shots during the Panthers' 3-0 victory at Anaheim on March 18. Florida owns a 15-7 scoring advantage while winning four straight against the Ducks. Though the Panthers should feel confident knowing their recent track record in this series, Anaheim has won three of its past four following an 0-6-1 skid. |
|||||||
11-06-22 | Maple Leafs v. Hurricanes UNDER 6.5 | 3-1 | Win | 105 | 6 h 44 m | Show
Having the best players playing the best is what Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour looks for from this team. He has seen that development often this season, and that has equated to quite a bit of success. "Our top guys have been playing really well," Brind'Amour said. The Hurricanes will take a four-game winning streak into Sunday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Raleigh, N.C. The Maple Leafs have a three-game points streak, including back-to-back victories. The most recent of those came with a 2-1 decision against visiting Boston on Saturday night, with Auston Matthews scoring both Toronto goals. Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren made his season debut in that game after being out because of a hernia. "It gives us another really good option both 5-on-5 and on the penalty kill," coach Sheldon Keefe said. "He has the ability to play against really good people." The Leafs ended the Bruins' seven-game winning streak, and they'd like to douse another streak on Sunday. |

11-05-22 | Ducks v. Sharks OVER 6.5 | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 52 m | Show
Erik Karlsson won the individual competition against Anthony Stolarz in their latest meeting, but the Anaheim Ducks ultimately came out on top against the San Jose Sharks. The Ducks will visit the Sharks again on Saturday night for the second time in five days, and they'll look for a similar result while also keeping closer tabs on the red-hot Karlsson. Anaheim beat San Jose 6-5 in a shootout on Tuesday night, despite absorbing the first NHL hat trick by Karlsson, the 32-year-old, two-time Norris Trophy winner. Karlsson also had an assist against the Ducks and came back with a goal and two assists in a 4-3 shootout loss against the visiting Florida Panthers on Thursday. Karlsson has 10 goals in his first 13 games, a mark reached in that span by just two other defensemen in NHL history. Harry Cameron scored 10 goals in seven games for the Toronto Arenas in 1917-18, and King Clancy scored 10 goals in nine games with the Ottawa Senators in 1929-30. Karlsson wasn't about to celebrate the accomplishment, especially after failing to convert his opportunities in the past two shootouts. |

11-05-22 | Panthers v. Kings OVER 6.5 | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 42 m | Show
The Florida Panthers have lost three straight games against the Los Angeles Kings, including two last season. On Saturday night in Los Angeles, the Panthers will try again. It will be the third of Florida's four-game road trip, which continued in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 shootout win over the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. Matthew Tkachuk, who led the Panthers with a game-high 10 shots on goal, also tops the team in assists (11) and points (16). New to the Panthers this season, Tkachuk has meshed seamlessly with Aleksander Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe. "I don't have to do too much with those guys -- they're unbelievable," Tkachuk said. "We've clicked right away." But while Tkachuk, Barkov (nine points) and Verhaeghe (nine points) rank top three on the Panthers in scoring, other Florida forwards have been struggling. Such is the case with Sam Reinhart, who has no goals and two assists in 11 games. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Bruins v. Maple Leafs OVER 6.5 | 1-2 | Loss | -113 | 7 h 43 m | Show
The Toronto Maple Leafs ended a four-game losing streak on Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers, but they will face a sterner test Saturday night against the visiting Boston Bruins. The surging Bruins have won seven straight and lost just once in 11 games this season after defeating the New York Rangers 5-2 on Thursday and are 3-0-0 on a road trip that ends in Toronto. "We're playing hard for each other, we're finding different ways to win, different guys are stepping up every night and that's the sign of a good team," said Nick Foligno, who had two assists for the Bruins on Thursday. "We're really proud of the fact we care about each other in that room. We've found that camaraderie, that brotherhood and it's worked for us." They will be difficult opponents for the Maple Leafs, who returned home from a 1-2-2 road trip to defeat the Flyers 5-2 on Wednesday. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Coyotes v. Capitals UNDER 6.5 | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 7 h 40 m | Show
The Arizona Coyotes begin life on the road Saturday night when they open a one-month, 14-game trek against the Washington Capitals. The 14-game road trip ties the longest in NHL history. The Canucks also had a 14-game trip scheduled during the 2009-10 season in order to accommodate the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The Coyotes' extended stay is necessary as the locker rooms at Mullett Arena are completed to NHL specifications. The team's new temporary home venue is on the campus of Arizona State University, with Arizona's next home game set for Dec. 9 against the Boston Bruins. The Coyotes limped out of the blocks in their last home game on Thursday, surrendering four first-period goals en route to a 7-2 setback to the Dallas Stars. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Golden Knights v. Canadiens UNDER 6.5 | 6-4 | Loss | -113 | 7 h 36 m | Show
The Vegas Golden Knights maintained their winning streak and continued their hot start, but their main theme Thursday was about withstanding a flawed performance. After surviving the Ottawa Senators, the Golden Knights will seek a seventh straight win Saturday night when they visit the Montreal Canadiens. The first three wins of the streak saw Vegas outscore Toronto, San Jose and Anaheim by a combined 11-3 margin. Then they scored the tying goal in the third period before getting overtime goals from Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore to beat Winnipeg and Washington. On Thursday, the Golden Knights held on for a 5-4 victory in Ottawa. Mark Stone, Reilly Smith, Zach Whitecloud, Chandler Stephenson and William Carrier scored as Vegas sped out to a 5-1 lead in the first 30:14. It allowed the next three goals and survived allowing a season-high 46 shots on goal thanks to a 42-save performance by goalie Logan Thompson. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Flyers v. Senators OVER 6.5 | 2-1 | Loss | -102 | 6 h 28 m | Show
The Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers each got off to surprisingly solid starts this season, but both will be trying to end losing streaks when they meet on Saturday night at Ottawa. The Senators have lost four in a row to cancel out a four-game winning streak that gave them a 4-2-0 start to the season. The Flyers have lost three in a row and four of five following a 4-1-0 start. "We've found a way to win some games with some really good goaltending that's given us an opportunity," Philadelphia coach John Tortorella said. "But we still have a ton of work to do to be considered a team that's come together." Ottawa center Claude Giroux will face the Flyers for the first time in his career after spending his first 15 NHL seasons with Philadelphia. The Flyers traded Giroux to the Florida Panthers toward the end of last season. After helping the Panthers reach the Eastern Conference semifinals, he signed a three-year deal with the Senators in the offseason. Giroux is coming in hot, producing three goals and two assists in a four-game point streak. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Sabres v. Lightning OVER 6.5 | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 6 h 19 m | Show
The offensive-minded Buffalo Sabres will complete a set of back-to-back road games when they face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Buffalo lost 5-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday in Raleigh, N.C. Jacob Bryson, Victor Olofsson and Rasmus Dahlin -- who has seven goals and eight assists in 11 games -- scored for the Sabres, but they surrendered a hat trick to the Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho. The Sabres are averaging 5.7 goals per game this week, having routed the visiting Detroit Red Wings 8-3 on Monday and topped the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Wednesday. The centerpiece of coach Don Granato's club lately is Tage Thompson, a 6-foot-6, 220-pound center from Phoenix. He has blossomed into the kind of pivot Buffalo thought it was getting when he was acquired from St. Louis on July 1, 2018, trade that sent Sabres star Ryan O'Reilly to the Blues. Centering a line that features wingers Jeff Skinner and Alex Tuch, the 25-year-old Thompson crafted his best numbers a season ago, setting career highs in goals (38), assists (30) and games played (78). The organization apparently saw enough: Buffalo inked the giant pivot to a seven-year, $50 million contract extension this summer. |

11-05-22 | Seattle Kraken v. Penguins OVER 6.5 | 3-2 | Loss | -101 | 6 h 16 m | Show
It's been a week since the Pittsburgh Penguins and Seattle Kraken have met, and things have held steady going into their rematch Saturday. The venue will change -- Seattle won at home 3-1 last Saturday, with the game this weekend in Pittsburgh -- but the Kraken have continued to win, while the Penguins have continued to lose. Seattle, in its second NHL season, has won three in a row dating to the earlier game against Pittsburgh and four of its past five. Five of Seattle's six wins have come against teams that made the playoffs last season, and the team has scored three-plus goals in each of its past eight games. Most recently, the Kraken downed Minnesota 4-0 on Thursday, with goaltender Martin Jones making 22 saves for the fourth shutout in franchise history. Jones has started five of the past six games -- he missed one game for personal reasons -- since No. 1 goaltender Philipp Grubauer sustained a lower-body injury. Jones stopped 32 of 33 shots in the win against the Penguins last weekend. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Blackhawks v. Jets UNDER 6.5 | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 32 m | Show
Following a slow start, the Winnipeg Jets have found a nice rhythm. Meanwhile, the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks are just looking for some consistency. The Jets try to extend their point streak to six games when they host the Blackhawks on Saturday. Winnipeg lost three of its first five games but has gone 4-0-1 since. Kyle Connor scored 1:45 into overtime Thursday, as the Jets improved to 3-1-0 at home with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. Connor recorded a career-high 47 goals during his personal-best 93-point 2021-22 season. However, Thursday marked just the second time he has scored through 10 games this season. |

11-05-22 | Blackhawks +1.5 v. Jets | 0-4 | Loss | -130 | 2 h 5 m | Show

Connor recorded a career-high 47 goals during his personal-best 93-point 2021-22 season. However, Thursday marked just the second time he has scored through 10 games this season. "Sometimes it comes in bunches," Connor said. "So, I'm just going to keep playing, keep trying to improve and get better every game. Hopefully, we can get on a little stretch here." Connor has four goals with five assists during his last five games versus Chicago, with Winnipeg winning four of those. Jets teammate Connor Hellebuyck, who has a 2.35 goals-against average in eight starts, has stopped 76-of-82 shots while winning two of his last three home outings versus Chicago. Backup David Rittich has yielded six goals in his two starts this season, and 14 in four against the Blackhawks during his career. Chicago opened the season with back-to-back road losses, then won four in a row. Following that run of success, the Blackhawks went 0-2-2 before Jonathan Toews scored 1:31 into overtime of a 2-1 home victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. All but two of the Blackhawks' 11 games this season have been decided by one or two goals. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Avalanche v. Blue Jackets OVER 6.5 | 5-1 | Loss | -125 | 2 h 47 m | Show
Mikko Rantanen had a triumphant return to his home country on Friday, and it will be tough to top Saturday when his Colorado Avalanche and the Columbus Blue Jackets play the second of a two-game NHL Global Series set in Tampere, Finland. Rantanen had a hat trick and four points in Colorado's 6-3 win Friday in Finland, where he got a warm reception from the local fans. "Two points are obviously the biggest thing," Rantanen said after Friday's win. "Got some good passes from the guys and was able to score some goals. The crowd chanting was cool, had chills sitting on the bench." Both teams would like to clean up some things. They combined for 12 power plays -- seven for Columbus -- and 75 total shots. |
|||||||
11-05-22 | Islanders -130 v. Red Wings | 0-3 | Loss | -130 | 1 h 53 m | Show
The New York Islanders roll into Detroit on Saturday afternoon seeking a sixth straight victory. All of those victories have come in regulation, as the Islanders have outscored their opponents 22-9 during that stretch. The Islanders were down 1-0 at St. Louis after the first period on Thursday, then erupted for four goals in the second period en route to a 5-2 victory. Kyle Palmieri tied the game just 14 seconds into the period. Over the next 10 minutes, Brock Nelson, Josh Bailey and captain Anders Lee hit the back of the net. |
|||||||
11-03-22 | Stars v. Coyotes UNDER 6 | 7-2 | Loss | -110 | 2 h 21 m | Show
After their first victory on their new home ice, the Arizona Coyotes will look to continue the momentum when they take on the Dallas Stars on Thursday in Tempe, Ariz. The Coyotes were 0-1-1 in their first two games at Mullett Arena but broke through Tuesday with a 3-1 win over the Florida Panthers. Though Arizona trailed late into the second period and was outshot by a 42-21 margin, the Coyotes scored three unanswered goals for their third win of the season. Karel Vejmelka stopped 41 of 42 shots to keep the Coyotes in the game and will likely be back in net against Dallas. Vejmelka has a 3.84 goals-against average over six games, but also hasn't received much help from his defense -- the goalie is seeing an average of 38.7 shots per game. While Vejmelka held the Panthers at bay, the Coyotes' red-hot power play led to the comeback. After the Coyotes came up empty on their first two chances with the extra attacker, Lawson Crouse and Nick Ritchie scored power-play goals to put Arizona ahead. |
|||||||
11-03-22 | Kings -1.5 v. Blackhawks | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 55 m | Show
The Chicago Blackhawks have a goalie crisis and Arvid Soderblom will look to be at least the short-term answer Thursday night against the visiting Los Angeles Kings. The Blackhawks lost Alex Stalock on Tuesday night when he was knocked out of a 3-1 loss to New York in the opening minutes after a collision with the Islanders' Casey Cizikas. Petr Mrazek is already out due to a groin strain. Stalock is in the concussion protocol, and Cizikas was hit with a game misconduct penalty and fined $5,000 Wednesday for goalie interference. Soderblom, 23, entered three minutes in and allowed two goals while making 28 saves as the Blackhawks dropped their fourth straight (0-2-2). |
|||||||
11-02-22 | Penguins v. Sabres OVER 6.5 | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 6 h 24 m | Show
Tage Thompson and the Buffalo Sabres aim to continue their torrid play on Wednesday when the team concludes its four-game homestand against the skidding Pittsburgh Penguins. Thompson recorded a hat trick to highlight his career-high, six-point performance in Buffalo's 8-3 romp over the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Monday. He is the sixth different Sabres player to score six points in a game and the first since Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine on Feb. 10, 1993 -- four years before Thompson was born. Thompson, 25, has five goals and four assists in his past two games to pull even with workhorse defenseman Rasmus Dahlin for the team lead in points with 12. Despite the recent scoring surge, Thompson insists he won't let it go to his head. "I think one of the keys is to probably not get too high," he said. "Same thing if you have a bad game, you don't want to get too low. You try to stay even keel and just kind of keep doing what you've been doing. That's the mindset I'm going to stick with going forward." Buffalo coach Don Granato likely would expect nothing less from Thompson. After all, he has known Thompson since their time together at the U.S. National Team Development Program. "It's enjoyable to watch 'Tommer,' having history with him, watching him when he was 16 years old, watching him grind his way to this point in his career," Granato said. "The thing that sticks out is the excitement of the bench and the players around him. It really tells you the person he is. ... To see that and see a kid that it took so long for him to flourish and be recognized for the talent that he is, to see him fight through that and now start to get rewards for that work, it's definitely enjoyable." Thompson isn't the only surging Buffalo player, as Jeff Skinner has collected two goals and four assists during a three-game point streak. Like Skinner, Sabres captain Kyle Okposo has set up a pair of goals in back-to-back games to claim a share of the team lead in assists with six. While Buffalo has won five of its past seven, the Penguins saw their skid extend to five (0-4-1) with a 6-5 overtime loss to the visiting Boston Bruins on Tuesday night. Evgeni Malkin collected a goal and an assist to give him five of each on the season. Captain Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell also scored to boost their goal totals to five, level with Malkin for the team lead. Stopping the opposition has been an issue of late for Pittsburgh, which has surrendered 24 goals during its current winless stretch. |

11-02-22 | Penguins v. Sabres +102 | 3-6 | Win | 102 | 5 h 27 m | Show
Tage Thompson and the Buffalo Sabres aim to continue their torrid play on Wednesday when the team concludes its four-game homestand against the skidding Pittsburgh Penguins. |

11-02-22 | Flyers v. Maple Leafs UNDER 7 | 2-5 | Push | 0 | 6 h 49 m | Show
The Toronto Maple Leafs hope to rebound from a disappointing road trip when they return home Wednesday night to play the Philadelphia Flyers. After squandering a 3-1 third-period lead in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, the Maple Leafs completed their trip 1-2-2. "You can get frustrated all you want, it's not going to help anything," Maple Leafs defenseman and alternate captain Morgan Rielly said Sunday. "You can talk about a lot of different things but this is on us. Players are in control of the outcome. "Nobody is making excuses, that it's early, that it's OK. We're not saying that. We keep our focus that it's a long season. We're not going to try to turn away from anything, we keep going until we right the ship." The Maple Leafs will get a heavy dose of home cooking as they play eight of their next 10 games in Toronto. The Flyers opened a three-game road trip Tuesday night with a 1-0 overtime loss to the New York Rangers. It was Philadelphia's second consecutive loss in extra time. The Maple Leafs have lost four in a row, two in overtime. |

11-01-22 | Panthers -1.5 v. Coyotes | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -109 | 12 h 19 m | Show |
After rolling up five victories and 11 points in their first nine games of the Paul Maurice era, the Florida Panthers head west for a four-game road trip beginning Tuesday night in Tempe, Ariz., against the Arizona Coyotes. Florida hit the road following a 5-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, firing a franchise-record 58 shots on goal in the process. That came on the heels of a 51-shot effort in a 4-3 loss at Philadelphia on Thursday. The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead against the Senators on goals by Carter Verhaeghe and Aleksander Barkov while outshooting Ottawa an eye-popping 26-4. But Ottawa battled back to tie the game 2-2 early in the second period. Despite finishing with a 58-26 shot advantage, Florida didn't score the game-winner until Brandon Montour one-timed Barkov's pass from the top of the right circle with 3:32 remaining. Matthew Tkachuk sealed the win with an empty netter with 14 seconds left. |

11-01-22 | Predators v. Oilers OVER 6.5 | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 11 h 25 m | Show
The Edmonton Oilers will eye a fifth straight win when they host the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Edmonton has trailed in three of its past four wins, including Saturday's victory against the Calgary Flames in which they faced a 2-1 deficit in the third period. "You don't like being behind, but I think we're one of the teams out there that can come from behind," forward Zach Hyman said after scoring twice against Calgary. "We have enough skill and our ability to score goals, we're confident in that. I think we're not deterred by a deficit. We don't like to be down, but when we're down, we have a lot of belief in the locker room that we can get back to even and win the game." The Oilers have been among the NHL's best teams offensively, averaging 3.78 goals per game. Through nine games, they've been held to two goals or fewer only twice, both coming in losses (4-2 to the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 18 and 2-0 to the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 22). |

11-01-22 | Seattle Kraken v. Flames OVER 6 | Top | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 23 m | Show |
Jordan Eberle's and Martin Jones' wives both gave birth to baby boys last Friday. The next night, their husbands delivered in their own way. Eberle scored his first goal of the season and Jones made 32 saves to lead the Seattle Kraken to a 3-1 victory against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. The Kraken is scheduled to open a three-game trip at Calgary on Tuesday night. "Obviously, midseason you have a baby there's a lot going through your head, but once you get out there you kind of just zone into it a bit," said Eberle, who has been through this once before. For Jones, it was a first. "It's been a roller coaster," Jones said. "Just tried to wrap my head around playing hockey (Saturday) and sometimes when you're not thinking too many things work out for you." |

11-01-22 | Golden Knights -160 v. Capitals | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 9 h 28 m | Show
The Vegas Golden Knights take a four-game winning streak into the opener of a five-game road trip on Tuesday night when they face the Washington Capitals in a rematch of the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals. Alex Ovechkin was the MVP of that series won by Washington in five games. The 37-year-old left wing will try to achieve another milestone on Tuesday when he tries to break Gordie Howe's NHL record for most goals with one team. Howe scored 786 goals in 1,687 games with the Detroit Red Wings from 1946-71. Ovechkin, who scored his fifth goal of the season in a 3-2 shootout loss at Carolina on Monday night, has 785 goals in 1,284 games with the Capitals. "I'm always saying to stay on one team for all my career is my goal," Ovechkin told NHL.com. "Obviously, I'm lucky enough to be able to do that kind of stuff so it's pretty cool." |

11-01-22 | Senators +1.5 v. Lightning | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 16 m | Show
After his club's 5-3 loss in Florida on Saturday, Ottawa coach D.J. Smith hopes the worst is behind the Senators. After watching eight October games that Ottawa managed to split, Smith said the first 20 minutes against the Panthers wasn't indicative of his side's abilities. "The first period is, well, it's our worst period of the year for sure," Smith said. "Just weren't ready when the game started. We battled back and we gave up a goal at the end of the second period, and then we give up a goal with three minutes to go. I mean, we kept battling but we've got to be better than that." Following that defeat, Ottawa heads up the Gulf Coast to play the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday in the first of three matchups on the season. The Senators are seeking their first road win of the season after three losses. With the additions of Claude Giroux and Alex DeBrincat, the Senators are aiming to become a contender in the Atlantic Division, which is off to a strong start. None of the eight teams has a losing record, leaving Ottawa and its eight points in last place. |

10-31-22 | Kings v. Blues OVER 6 | 5-1 | Push | 0 | 6 h 17 m | Show
The St. Louis Blues will try to snap one of their worst slumps in recent years when they host the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. The Blues have been dealt four consecutive regulation losses for the first time since Craig Berube took over as head coach during the 2018-19 season. Opponents have outscored the Blues 20-7 during the current downturn. Meanwhile, the Kings earned an impressive 4-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at home Saturday in advance of their trip to St. Louis. The Kings have won two of their past three games after a 3-4 start. It leaves the Blues feeling urgency to clean up their game. "It's unacceptable to play like this," Blues winger Vladimir Tarasenko said, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "We have some time before next game to figure it out. "It has been a few rough games for us. Obviously losing sucks, but I've seen worse. ... We're confident in ourselves. The main thing is we should play better at home, and away games. We're about to fix it, that's it." The Blues at least got their offense going again during a 7-4 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. Winger Jordan Kyrou scored a pair of goals to give him three on the season. Pavel Buchnevich came off the injured reserve list to join Tarasenko and Robert Thomas on the top forward line. But the Blues had multiple defensive breakdowns while blowing a 3-1 lead. "Obviously, we're struggling right now," defenseman Colton Parayko said. "A little adversity for our group, but what we got to do is we've got to fight through it. We got to stick with it, stick together as a group. That's a good thing about our group we're going to stick together. We're gonna work our way through it." Kings coach Todd McLellan has shuffled his forward lines by moving Gabriel Vilardi to the top group with Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe while sliding Kevin Fiala down to the third line. Fiala scored a goal and added an assist against the Maple Leafs while driving play for his trio. |

10-31-22 | Capitals v. Hurricanes UNDER 6.5 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 23 m | Show
The Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes have something in common going into Monday night's meeting at Raleigh, N.C. Both teams are coming off road victories, but they weren't achieved under ideal circumstances. The edge on Monday could go to the team that adjusts best to its situation. Right winger T.J. Oshie and defenseman John Carlson exited early for the Capitals in their 3-0 triumph at Nashville on Saturday. "They're both lower-body (ailments) and we're evaluating them," Washington coach Peter Laviolette said. The Hurricanes were far from smooth at Philadelphia on Saturday, yet they came out on top 4-3 in overtime. "We can't play like that and expect to be too successful," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. Monday's game brings Laviolette back to Raleigh. He was the coach of the Hurricanes in 2006, when they won the Stanley Cup with Brind'Amour as the captain. Both teams had challenging road assignments across the opening couple of weeks of the season. Monday's game completes a four-game road stretch for the Capitals. The Hurricanes returned from an early Western Conference swing and played on back-to-back nights, losing at home to the New York Islanders on Friday before facing the Flyers. Brent Burns scored the winning goal Saturday night, another step in his acclimation to the Hurricanes. "I think it has been an adjustment, but that's what he does," Brind'Amour said of Burns coming up big in clutch situations. That could also be true of Hurricanes forward Martin Necas, who has been consistent to start the season. Brind'Amour said Necas might be considered Carolina's best player to date with 11 points (five goals, six assists). "Just try to be better at 5-on-5," Necas said about his hot start. "Just be prepared for the season as much as possible. So far it has been good, but it's only eight games in a season." If Necas continues to be a factor at this rate, it will open areas on the ice for the Hurricanes' other skilled skaters. |

10-31-22 | Red Wings v. Sabres -150 | 3-8 | Win | 100 | 5 h 43 m | Show
The Buffalo Sabres and Detroit Red Wings have opened the season well despite slow starts from two of the game's rising stars. However, the Sabres' Tage Thompson and Lucas Raymond of the Red Wings both look to build on a much-needed strong performance when the teams meet Monday night in Buffalo. Thompson enjoyed a breakout campaign with 38 goals and 30 assists in 2021-22 but had just a goal and two assists in his first seven contests. He added to his total in 2022-23 by scoring twice in the third period -- and adding an overtime assist -- in Buffalo's 4-3 comeback victory against Chicago on Saturday. It was the Sabres' fifth win in eight games to open this season. "I think it was a matter of time," Thompson said. "If you're getting chances, I think that's all you can ask for. If you're getting chances, I think they're bound to go in." Thompson has just two goals with an assist in seven career games against Detroit, which swept the four-game 2021-22 season series from the Sabres. Three of those contests were decided in overtime. Meanwhile, the Red Wings avoided a third straight defeat with Saturday's 2-1 home win over Minnesota. Raymond scored his first two goals for Detroit after recording just two assists through his first seven contests of the season. It was a welcome relief for Raymond, whose 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists) as a rookie last season ranked third on the team, and led to high expectations for this one. "My focus is playing the right way," Raymond said. "I know that good things will happen." Raymond was a big reason for the Red Wings' success over Buffalo last season, recording two goals and four assists during those four meetings. "He's a key guy for us," Detroit coach Derek Lalonde said. "With his minutes, and how he plays, we need quality play out of him." Detroit, which has four wins -- and the same 10 points as Buffalo -- from its first eight games this season, will try to win back-to-back contests for the first time since opening with victories over Montreal and New Jersey. Ville Husso made 30 saves Saturday and is 3-1-1 with a 2.40 goals-against average to begin his Red Wings career. However, Detroit backup Alex Nedeljkovic has allowed 12 goals in his first three contests this season. |

10-30-22 | Maple Leafs v. Ducks UNDER 6.5 | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 3 m | Show
The Anaheim Ducks hope a return home to play the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday leads to an end of their seven-game winless streak. The Ducks have an 0-6-1 record during that stretch following their 5-4 victory over the visiting Seattle Kraken on Oct. 12 in the season opener. Anaheim has played only one other home game this season, a 4-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday. The Ducks followed that up with a 4-0 setback versus the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday. The Maple Leafs lost 4-2 to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday to fall to 1-2-1 on their five-game road trip. In their loss to Vegas, the Ducks lost defenseman Jamie Drysdale to an upper-body injury in the second period. |

10-30-22 | Rangers -1.5 v. Coyotes | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 50 m | Show
During their first four-game losing streak under coach Gerard Gallant, the New York Rangers had little to show for an abundance of shots on goal, though they vowed the goals would eventually appear. On Saturday, the Rangers finally produced the goals they were seeking and hope to continue their production Sunday night when they visit the Arizona Coyotes in their new, temporary arena in Tempe, Ariz. In the prior four games, New York had taken two home defeats -- one in overtime, one in a shootout -- along with a 5-1 loss to the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets and a 3-0 loss to the host New York Islanders on Wednesday. During those games, the Rangers averaged 35.2 shots on goal, and produced 46 and 41 respectively in the final two games of the skid. On Saturday afternoon, New York finished with 27 shots in a 6-3 victory at Dallas. In a game in which they produced their second-lowest amount of shots on the season, the Rangers scored two power-play goals and three in a span of 2:07 in the third period. |

10-30-22 | Jets v. Golden Knights -1.5 | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 56 m | Show |
The Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights will both put three-game winning streaks on the line when they meet late Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas. It will be the second meeting in an 11-day span between the teams. Vegas, jumping out to a 4-0 first-period lead that featured a pair of goals by Jack Eichel, won the first one 5-2 on Oct. 20 in Vegas. The Golden Knights, who lead the Pacific Division with a Western Conference-best 14 points, seem to have bought into a more defensive-oriented system brought in by new head coach Bruce Cassidy. Entering Saturday, Vegas led the NHL with a 1.78 goals-against average and has allowed two goals or fewer in six of its nine games. The Golden Knights also lead the Western Conference with a plus-13 goal differential. And rookie goaltender Logan Thompson, who made 29 saves in a 4-0 victory over Anaheim on Friday, owns two shutouts. "He's been awesome," Vegas forward Reilly Smith said of Thompson. "He's just picking up more and more confidence every game. It's great to see." Thompson sports a 1.69 goals-against to go along with a sparkling .943 save percentage. He credited his teammates for playing a big part in his good start. |

10-30-22 | Blue Jackets v. Devils OVER 6.5 | 1-7 | Win | 100 | 1 h 59 m | Show
A shutout of the defending Stanley Cup champions proved to the New Jersey Devils they could compete with the best teams in the NHL. Next up: Forgetting all about it. The Devils will look to maintain their surge Sunday afternoon when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets in a battle of Metropolitan Division rivals in Newark, N.J. Both teams were off Saturday after playing at home Friday night, when the Devils edged the Colorado Avalanche 1-0 and the Blue Jackets fell to the Boston Bruins 4-0. The win was the fifth in the last six games following an 0-2-0 start for the Devils, whose first four wins came against teams that all missed the playoffs last season. And while coach Lindy Ruff wanted his guys to quickly turn their focus to the Blue Jackets, he acknowledged that figuring out a way to beat the defensively sound Avalanche provided the Devils evidence they can contend. New Jersey has missed the playoffs in each of the last four seasons and eight times in the nine years since reaching the Stanley Cup Final in the spring of 2012. |

10-29-22 | Oilers v. Flames -140 | 3-2 | Loss | -140 | 9 h 44 m | Show
The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers renew their Battle of Alberta rivalry on Saturday night when the two teams play for the second time in the span of two weeks. The reigning Pacific Division-champion Flames won the first meeting, 4-3, in Edmonton on Oct. 15, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first 10:18 and then withstanding an Oiler third-period comeback that featured two goals, including one by Connor McDavid. Backup goaltender Dan Vladar made 26 saves, including a pair in the final seconds during a goalmouth scramble to seal the win. The Flames, in the midst of an eight-game homestand, will be playing their second game over a seven-day span and will be coming in off a four-day break following an impressive 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Nazem Kadri scored twice and Jacob Markstrom turned aside 32 shots. Calgary and Edmonton enter the contest tied for second in the Pacific with 10 points behind the Vegas Golden Knights. However, due to a strange scheduling quirk, the Flames have played a Pacific Division-low six games so far this season -- three fewer than Vegas (after it hosts Anaheim on Friday), and two fewer than Edmonton -- and are in the middle of a stretch of two games in nine days. |

10-29-22 | Avalanche -130 v. Islanders | 4-5 | Loss | -130 | 6 h 18 m | Show
Josh Bailey is sure to look back fondly on Friday night when he scored the game-winning goal against the Carolina Hurricanes and played in his 1,000th game with the New York Islanders. The Islanders hope the night also will be looked upon as the game when Brock Nelson got untracked. The Islanders will get another chance to face a contender on Saturday night when they oppose the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in Elmont, N.Y. Both teams will complete back-to-back sets after playing on the road Friday night. Nelson scored twice for the Islanders, who never trailed while beating the Hurricanes 6-2 in Raleigh, N.C. The Avalanche absorbed a rare shutout defeat as they fell to the New Jersey Devils 1-0 in Newark, N.J. Bailey put the Islanders ahead for good at 3-2 with 3:34 left in the second period before Nelson scored consecutive goals within the first 12 minutes of the third. The goals were the first of the season for Nelson, who scored a team-high 81 the previous three seasons combined. |

10-29-22 | Canadiens v. Blues UNDER 6 | 7-4 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 41 m | Show
The struggling St. Louis Blues will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the rebuilding Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. The Blues have been outscored 13-3 during their downturn, which followed an encouraging 3-0-0 start. "We have a veteran group in this locker room, and we've got to find a way to overcome it and it falls on the leadership group to pull ourselves out of it," defenseman Torey Krug said, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "So we have to do a better job." The Blues' special teams have been fine, with a 26.7 percent power-play conversion rate and 92.3 percent success killing penalties. But they are seeking improvement in their 5-on-5 play heading into a meeting with the Canadiens, who have won three of their last five games. |

10-29-22 | Blackhawks v. Sabres OVER 6.5 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 6 h 38 m | Show
Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane has plenty of reasons to be happy heading into Saturday night's game against the host Buffalo Sabres. For starters, Saturday's contest represents a homecoming for Kane, and the Buffalo native has fared well in his decorated career versus the hometown Sabres. Kane has totaled 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 20 career games against Buffalo. Kane also enters the encounter with seven points (two goals, five assists) in his last three contests overall. The former Hart Trophy recipient collected a goal and two assists on Thursday. However, Chicago saw its four-game winning streak come to a halt with a wild 6-5 setback to the Edmonton Oilers. Despite the loss, Kane insisted that the rebuilding Blackhawks are heading in the right direction. |

Last season, the Philadelphia Flyers were among the worst teams in the NHL. Through seven games this season, the Flyers are surprisingly one of the best. After a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday, the Flyers reveled in their fifth win in seven games. They will look to build on the positive momentum when they host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. All of this success has come without key injured players Sean Couturier, Ryan Ellis and Cam Atkinson. Goaltender Carter Hart is 5-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average. |
|||||||
10-29-22 | Rangers v. Stars UNDER 5.5 | 6-3 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 31 m | Show
The New York Rangers continue their road trip Saturday with a visit to Dallas to take on the host Stars for their only trip to the Lone Star State. Mired in a four-game losing streak, the Rangers are in search of their first win since Oct. 17 and most recently dropped their first game of a three-game road trip Wednesday 3-0 against the cross-town New York Islanders. Rangers captain Jacob Trouba insisted the team will be able to right the ship. |

10-28-22 | Jets v. Coyotes OVER 6.5 | 3-2 | Loss | -115 | 10 h 2 m | Show
After playing their first six games of the season on the road, the Arizona Coyotes are looking forward to their debut in the cozy confines of Mullett Arena in Tempe, Ariz. The Coyotes will face the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night in Arizona State University's new 5,000-seat arena. "It's a new chapter of hockey in Arizona and in Tempe," Coyotes forward Clayton Keller said. "I think everyone is excited and there will be a lot more eyes and a lot of people talking more about hockey." The Coyotes were basically thrown out of their old home, Gila River Arena, which refused to renew their lease. The team is negotiating with Tempe for a new arena, with the City Council expected to vote on that late next month. In the meantime, the Coyotes have a three-year deal with Arizona State to play in what will be, by far, the NHL's smallest venue. |

10-28-22 | Penguins v. Canucks UNDER 6.5 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 9 h 19 m | Show
Looking for a steady 60-minute performance, the Pittsburgh Penguins will try to end a two-game losing streak when they visit the Vancouver Canucks on Friday. Each of the two losses featured a disastrous period that put the Penguins in an insurmountable hole. In a 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, the Penguins allowed four goals and were outshot 26-4 during the second period. During a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, Pittsburgh emerged from the first period with a 2-0 deficit after being outshot by a 20-6 margin. "This year, we've had volatility in our game, almost even within games, period to period," Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said. "You know, some periods I think we look really good, and then other periods it's a struggle. "I think we've got to try to find a way to do a better job at bringing just a little bit more consistency. And I think a lot of that just has to do with control and momentum and simplifying the game a little bit. There are certain areas of our game where we know we've got to get them on track." The penalty kill is one such weak spot early in the season. Opponents have scored on seven of 25 power-play attempts against the Penguins, a 72 percent kill rate that ranks 28th among the 32 NHL teams. |

10-28-22 | Avalanche -130 v. Devils | 0-1 | Loss | -130 | 7 h 37 m | Show
Four wins in their last five games have steadied the New Jersey Devils, whose season-opening two-game losing streak was a discouraging start for a team hoping to step forward as a playoff contender following a lengthy rebuild. Now the Devils get an opportunity to find out just how much they've improved by facing the most impressive contender of them all. The Devils will look to maintain their winning ways Friday when they host the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in Newark, N.J. Both teams have been off since earning wins Tuesday, when the visiting Devils trounced the Detroit Red Wings 6-2 and the Avalanche continued their six-game, multi-national road trip by edging the New York Rangers 3-2 in a shootout. New Jersey's most lopsided win of the season came in the second game of a back-to-back set. The Devils traveled to Detroit after falling 6-3 at home to the Washington Capitals on Monday night. |
|||||||
10-28-22 | Islanders v. Hurricanes UNDER 6 | 6-2 | Loss | -125 | 6 h 28 m | Show
The Carolina Hurricanes ought to look fully recognizable to their fans when the team is seen again on home ice. Carolina is off to another strong start despite a lengthy road trip. The New York Islanders will try to disrupt that early trend when the teams meet for the first time this season Friday night in Raleigh, N.C. It has been more than two weeks since the Hurricanes played a home game, which came in their season opener. They went 3-1-1 on the road trip. |
|||||||
10-28-22 | Bruins v. Blue Jackets OVER 6.5 | 4-0 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 24 m | Show
The Boston Bruins complete their second back-to-back in as many weeks when they travel to Ohio to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. Thursday's 5-1 home win over Detroit extended the Bruins' winning streak to four and improved their league-best record to 7-1-0. But it wasn't an average day. Brad Marchand returned from double hip surgery about a month early, scoring twice and adding an assist. The winger won't play Friday to help manage his load. "In no way, shape or form was Brad playing (on Friday)," general manager Don Sweeney said. "You've got to put the reins on him a little bit. ... He's just an incredibly impactful player in all facets of the game. We missed him." Meanwhile, the Bruins lost David Krejci to an upper-body injury and Jack Studnicka -- who has played just once this season -- was traded to Vancouver for goaltender Michael DiPietro and the rights to defenseman Jonathan Myrenberg during the game. |
|||||||
10-28-22 | Ducks v. Golden Knights -1.5 | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 15 m | Show
The Golden Knights aim to record their second three-game winning streak of the young season and hand the Anaheim Ducks their seventh straight setback on Friday when the Pacific Division rivals meet in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights posted a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday before Phil Kessel enjoyed a milestone night in a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. Kessel scored the 400th goal of his career on Tuesday while playing in his NHL-record 990th consecutive game. That type of performance caught the eye of baseball's ironman Cal Ripken Jr., who congratulated Kessel over social media. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Jets v. Kings OVER 6 | Top | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 8 h 55 m | Show |
Los Angeles Kings coach Todd McLellan is beginning to like what he sees from his team. He'll look for more reasons to be optimistic when the Kings host the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night. Los Angeles played its best game of the season on Tuesday in a 4-2 win against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning, ending a 10-game losing streak against the three-time defending Eastern Conference champions. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Canucks v. Seattle Kraken OVER 6.5 | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 8 h 32 m | Show
The Seattle Kraken finally overcame their home jitters Tuesday, defeating the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 for their first victory at Climate Pledge Arena this season. The Vancouver Canucks would just like to find a way to win anywhere. The Canucks, who are winless in their first seven games (0-5-2) will look to snap that skid when they play Thursday night at Seattle. Vancouver's skid was extended Monday at home as they lost 3-2 to Carolina, giving up two goals 37 seconds apart early in the third period. J.T. Miller scored twice, and Thatcher Demko made 36 saves, yet the Canucks remained the NHL's only winless team and failed for an eighth consecutive time, dating back to last season, to give coach Bruce Boudreau his 600th career victory. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Oilers v. Blackhawks OVER 6.5 | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 6 h 20 m | Show
The Chicago Blackhawks responded to a brief stumble out of the blocks by going into a full-on sprint during their four-game winning streak. The Blackhawks aim to complete a perfect four-game homestand on Thursday when they host superstar captain Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. Patrick Kane recorded his second straight two-point performance with a goal and an assist in Chicago's 4-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. The goal was the first of the season for Kane, who admitted he's enjoying the Blackhawks' start to this season as opposed to their 0-7-2 run to begin the 2021-22 campaign. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Capitals v. Stars -118 | Top | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 6 h 5 m | Show |
The slumping Nashville Predators will seek their first victory on North American soil this season when they host the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. The Predators are 0-4-1 since Oct. 7-8, when they won back-to-back games against the San Jose Sharks in Prague as part of the NHL's Global Series. They scored just nine goals over the losing streak. "Our focus is continuing to get better," Nashville coach John Hynes said. "As I said, you have to take the situations for what they are. We haven't won here in five games. I think there are different reasons for that." The Predators haven't played since last Saturday, when they lost to the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-1. They have used the scheduling break to regroup ahead of their game against the Blues at Bridgestone Arena. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Red Wings v. Bruins OVER 6 | 1-5 | Push | 0 | 5 h 41 m | Show
The Boston Bruins have won three consecutive games to vault to the top of the NHL standings. They've done so in different ways, taking games to a shootout and overtime before a defensive-minded effort in closing out Tuesday's 3-1 win over Dallas. The Detroit Red Wings will be Thursday's visitors to Boston, where the Bruins are 5-0-0. "I didn't think (Tuesday) was a very good offensive game for us. I thought there were plays to be made that even our elite offensive players weren't seeing," Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. "But our checking is really improving. We won with defense, and of course, Linus (Ullmark) was really good in the net again." Ullmark has won the last three games, but Jeremy Swayman could go back in goal as the Bruins start a back-to-back; they visit Columbus on Friday night. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Canadiens v. Sabres OVER 6.5 | 3-2 | Loss | -125 | 4 h 28 m | Show
The Buffalo Sabres find themselves in a better position than in recent seasons after winning three of four games on a trek through the Western Conference. Buffalo opens a four-game homestand against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night in a matchup of Atlantic Division teams trying to join the upper echelon. Less than 10 games into the new campaign, the Sabres are doing a better job of it so far. On a 10-day journey through the province of Alberta and the Pacific Northwest, Buffalo coach Don Granato's bunch managed to beat a pair of playoff clubs from last season -- the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames. They also split a pair against the Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Kraken. However, in the sandwich games of the trip, the club lost two defensemen -- Henri Jokiharju and Mattias Samuelsson -- and quickly had to call up Kale Clague and Lawrence Pilut for reinforcements. Paired with Casey Fitzgerald on Tuesday in Seattle, Pilut logged 14:50 of ice time and went minus-1 in his season debut. Pilut played 46 games with the Sabres from 2018-20 before going to the KHL for two seasons. Granato said Pilut and Clague, both left-handed shots, were key parts of their depth plans. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Panthers v. Flyers +1.5 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 4 h 21 m | Show
The Philadelphia Flyers have many reasons to be optimistic following a surprising start of four wins over their first six games. But they also have to deal with the bitter reality of losing James van Riemsdyk with a fractured finger for at least a month. The short-handed Flyers will host the Florida Panthers on Thursday without van Riemsdyk, who has compiled two goals and three assists in six games. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Red Wings v. Bruins -1.5 | 1-5 | Win | 105 | 4 h 17 m | Show
The Boston Bruins have won three consecutive games to vault to the top of the NHL standings. They've done so in different ways, taking games to a shootout and overtime before a defensive-minded effort in closing out Tuesday's 3-1 win over Dallas. The Detroit Red Wings will be Thursday's visitors to Boston, where the Bruins are 5-0-0. |
|||||||
10-27-22 | Wild v. Senators OVER 6.5 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -113 | 5 h 45 m | Show |
The red-hot Ottawa Senators will look to complete a perfect homestand when they host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. After losing their first two games (both on the road) of the season, Ottawa is unbeaten on home ice. The Senators are 4-0-0 heading into the final contest of their five-game homestand and have outscored opponents 22-11 during their four-game streak. Much of that damage has come in the third period, as the Senators have done an excellent job of closing out opponents. Over their last four games, the Senators have a 10-1 scoring edge in the final frame. Monday's game with the Dallas Stars was tied 1-1 after two periods, but Ottawa then scored the game's next three goals to pull away for the 4-2 win. |
|||||||
10-25-22 | Golden Knights v. Sharks UNDER 6.5 | Top | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 8 h 5 m | Show |
The Vegas Golden Knights completed a three-game homestand Monday with a 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, setting the stage for a record-setting night on Tuesday. When Vegas forward Phil Kessel takes ice against the host San Jose Sharks, he will became the NHL's all-time ironman. The 35-year-old veteran is set to break Keith Yandle's ironman record by skating in his 990th consecutive game when the two Pacific Division clubs play the first of four meetings. Slotting in Monday at right wing on a third line with left winger Michael Amadio and center Brett Howden, Kessel participated in his 989th consecutive game on Monday in a game that seemingly couldn't have been scripted better. After producing just one point, an assist, in his first six games with the Golden Knights, Kessel appeared to score on the first power play at 3:16 when he finished a two-on-one feed from Nicolas Roy as the Vegas crowd erupted. However, Toronto challenged for offside on William Karlsson, and the goal was denied. Yet 35 seconds after that, Roy tipped in his first tally, with Kessel earning an assist after putting the initial shot on goal. That didn't fit the narrative as well as the overturned marker -- it would have been the Wisconsin native's 400th of his outstanding career -- but the bigger moment was Kessel tying Yandle's milestone. |

10-25-22 | Lightning -134 v. Kings | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -134 | 8 h 53 m | Show |
One of the early challenges for many NHL teams is adjusting to the busy first month of the season while trying to rack up as many points as possible. The Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings have already experienced challenges with their schedules heading into their Tuesday night matchup in Los Angeles. The Lightning will have played on back-to-back days three times in their first eight games when they face the Kings and then turn around and visit the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. The Kings are coming off five games in eight days on an East Coast trip that started with surprising success before running on fumes toward the end. The Lightning hasn't let their hectic schedule affect them so far. They are coming off a nice weekend, beating the Florida Panthers, 3-2, in overtime on Friday in Sunrise, Fla., and a day later downing the visiting New York Islanders, 5-3. They split their other back-to-back set, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 on Oct. 14, and losing to the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 the following day, both on the road. Tampa Bay wasn't as sharp on Saturday against New York as it was the night before against the Panthers, but Brayden Point, Brandon Hagel, and Nick Paul each contributed a goal and an assist, as goalie Brian Elliott stopped 32 of 35 shots in his second start of the season. |
|||||||
10-25-22 | Sabres v. Seattle Kraken OVER 6.5 | 1-5 | Loss | -120 | 8 h 50 m | Show
The Buffalo Sabres look to complete a sweep of their four-game road trip Tuesday night when they visit the Seattle Kraken. The Sabres have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL out of the gate, winning four of their first five games. Three of those victories have come on their current road swing, as they outscored the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and Vancouver Canucks by a combined 15-6. |
|||||||
10-25-22 | Panthers -1.5 v. Blackhawks | 2-4 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 42 m | Show
Dangerous with a deficit. That's the Chicago Blackhawks, who have trailed 2-0 in the first period in three straight games. Somehow, the Blackhawks have won all three of those games, and they will ride that winning streak into Tuesday night's matchup with the visiting Florida Panthers. "Definitely impressive," Blackhawks first-year coach Luke Richardson said of Chicago's Comeback Kids. The streak started with a 5-2 win in San Jose on Oct. 15 when Sam Lafferty scored the tying and go-ahead goals. Back home, Chicago trailed the Detroit Red Wings, 2-0 and 3-1. Defenseman Connor Murphy scored short-handed for the tying goal midway through the third period, and Max Domi scored in overtime for a 4-3 win. |
|||||||
10-25-22 | Wild v. Canadiens OVER 6.5 | 3-1 | Loss | -115 | 5 h 47 m | Show
The Minnesota Wild continue a five-game road trip Tuesday night as they head north of the border to visit the Montreal Canadiens. The Wild kicked off their trip on Saturday with an overtime loss to the Boston Bruins. They rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie the score late in the third period before falling in the extra frame. Head coach Dean Evason liked the fact his club battled before ultimately taking the loss. |
|||||||
10-25-22 | Coyotes v. Blue Jackets OVER 6.5 | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 18 m | Show
The Columbus Blue Jackets will shoot for their fourth win in five games Tuesday night when they host the reeling Arizona Coyotes. The Blue Jackets had started the season by being outscored 14-5 in dropping their first three games, but since then have found their offense. They have scored at least four goals in their past three wins, with the only blemish lately a 6-3 loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. Meantime, the Coyotes have opened the season by winning just one of five games and have allowed six goals in each of their losses -- each of which has been by at least three goals. Tuesday's game concludes Arizona's season-opening six-game road trip. Columbus is returning home after picking up its first road win in three tries this season. Sunday, five different Blue Jackets scored and Daniil Tarasov made 30 saves to pick up his first NHL win in a 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Zach Werenski, Andrew Peeke, Yegor Chinakhov, Eric Robinson, and Kent Johnson all scored, while Jakub Voracek and Jack Roslovic each added two assists, as did Liam Foudy, who was making his season debut after being sidelined with a shoulder injury he sustained in the preseason. Foudy was on the ice for a total of 13:23 and had a plus-2 rating. |
|||||||
10-25-22 | Devils v. Red Wings OVER 6.5 | 6-2 | Win | 100 | 4 h 15 m | Show
True to the term, the Detroit Red Wings' special teams have made the start of the season special. Detroit will try to maintain its momentum when the New Jersey Devils visit on Tuesday. The Red Wings have not allowed a power-play goal in their first five games. Not coincidentally, they have yet to suffer a regulation loss. In their 5-1 victory over Anaheim on Sunday, they even prevented a goal when the Ducks had a two-man advantage in the first period. |
|||||||
10-24-22 | Hurricanes -145 v. Canucks | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 6 h 5 m | Show
The Carolina Hurricanes are about to reach the conclusion of a brutal road trip and they're looking for one last prize to take home. This trek, which covers almost two weeks, winds down with Monday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks. "This road trip from heck, just a bad road trip," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "It's way too much time on the road to play only this amount of games." The Hurricanes are 2-1-1 on the trip. More than two weeks will have elapsed between home games when they take the ice Friday night. |
|||||||
10-23-22 | Blue Jackets v. Rangers -1.5 | 5-1 | Loss | -115 | 5 h 31 m | Show
The New York Rangers could have Vitali Kravtsov back in the lineup Sunday for their game against the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets. The right ringer has been cleared to play after suffering an upper-body injury early in the opening game of the season, although Rangers coach Gerard Gallant would not say whether Kravtsov would play Sunday. |
|||||||
10-23-22 | Ducks v. Red Wings -124 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 4 h 10 m | Show
The Anaheim Ducks will look to end a four-game slide when they visit Detroit on Sunday afternoon. They are wrapping up a five-game road trip, which also included stops in New York, New Jersey and Boston. Their losses to the Islanders, Rangers and Devils came in regulation. The Ducks then dropped a shootout against the Bruins, 2-1, on Thursday. "We're obviously playing better," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "Would have liked to have both points (on Thursday), but a small step in the right direction. "I thought our (penalty) killers did a great job. Our D was solid. It's been a sore point early, but a much better effort and much better detail." Anaheim's penalty killing has also improved, as it hasn't allowed a power-play goal in each of the last two games. |
|||||||
10-23-22 | Ducks v. Red Wings OVER 6.5 | 1-5 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 7 m | Show

10-23-22 | Seattle Kraken -144 v. Blackhawks | 4-5 | Loss | -144 | 2 h 35 m | Show
Two teams coming off feel-good wins could both be without their No. 1 goalies when the Seattle Kraken visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon. The Kraken head to the Windy City after dispatching the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche by a 3-2 final on Friday. The win, their second of the season, ended a three-game losing streak (0-2-1) for Seattle. "It's something to build off of," forward Jared McCann said. "I feel like we played awesome in those California games and kind of fell short. So, to get this one, you can just build from there." The victory proved to be costly, however, as goaltender Philipp Grubauer left midway through the third period with an undisclosed injury. Coach Dave Hakstol didn't have an update after the game, leaving his status unknown for Sunday. Seattle has earned points in four of its six games thus far aided by a power play that's connected seven times on 24 opportunities for a 29.2 percent success rate. The Kraken has scored with the man advantage in five of their six games. Goalie Petr Mrazek left the game after the second period with a groin strain and did not practice Saturday. |
|||||||
10-20-22 | Jets v. Golden Knights OVER 6.5 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 8 m | Show
The Vegas Golden Knights will try to bounce back from the first loss of the Bruce Cassidy era night when they open a three-game homestand with a matchup against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. The Golden Knights began the season with three consecutive wins before taking a 3-2 road loss against defending Pacific Division champion Calgary on Tuesday. The Flames game was billed as a measuring stick for a Vegas team that missed making the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in franchise history last season. "Well, I don't think we passed the test," Cassidy said. "Let's put it that way." The Golden Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period but allowed a pair of power-play goals in a sloppy second period that saw them pick up six penalties. Mikael Backlund then scored the game-winner with 4:29 remaining in the third period when he cut in front of Jack Eichel and between defensemen Alec Martinez and Alex Pietrangelo to shovel in a Blake Coleman pass from in front of the crease. |
|||||||
10-20-22 | Sabres v. Flames OVER 6.5 | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 7 h 58 m | Show
The Calgary Flames look to win four in a row to start the season for the first time in 13 years when they host the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. Calgary last won four straight out of the gate in the 2009-10 season. The Flames rallied for their third straight victory on Tuesday, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 triumph against the Vegas Golden Knights. "We've done a good job of doing the right things and finding ways to win," forward Tyler Toffoli said. Thursday's tilt is the second of an eight-game homestand and part of a stretch in which the Flames play 11 of their first 15 games of the season at home. While the results have come in the club's favor thus far, they know there's still plenty of room for improvement. |
|||||||
10-20-22 | Hurricanes v. Oilers OVER 6.5 | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 37 m | Show
There has been some serious offense for the unbeaten Carolina Hurricanes in the opening week of the season. Their defense might be even better heading into Thursday night's game against the host Edmonton Oilers. Carolina's three goals allowed are the fewest through three games of a season in franchise history. "It's about our game," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "Let's not wait to see how the game is going to go. Play the right way is the key." Despite good play up and down the ice, sometimes it comes down to the goalie. That's what Brind'Amour saw for a stretch in the most recent game. |
|||||||
10-20-22 | Canucks v. Wild OVER 6.5 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 18 m | Show
The Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild share a common thread when they meet Thursday in Saint Paul, Minn. Both the Canucks and Wild are among the three NHL teams -- along with the San Jose Sharks -- without a win so far this season, a distinction that isn't sitting well in their hockey-crazed cities. Vancouver, in fact, is the first team in league history to lose four straight (0-3-1) after holding a multi-goal lead in each game. |
|||||||
10-20-22 | Kings v. Penguins OVER 6.5 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 5 h 14 m | Show
The Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday are returning home, where they have thrived, but they will be facing the Los Angeles Kings of the road. The Kings have won each of their three road games, against two home losses, and come to Pittsburgh off of a comeback 4-3 shootout win Tuesday at Nashville. That win -- which came in the second half of a back-to-back after a 5-4 overtime win Monday at Detroit -- spurred a lot of confidence for Los Angeles. |
|||||||
10-20-22 | Capitals v. Senators OVER 6.5 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 33 m | Show
The depleted Washington Capitals look for their third straight win when they visit the Ottawa Senators Thursday night. The Capitals began the season with three forwards on the long-term injured list, including Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson. Two more top-six forwards will be missing Thursday night. Evgeny Kuznetsov was suspended one game for high sticking Vancouver Canucks defenseman Kyle Burroughs in Monday's 6-4 win. He has been nursing an undisclosed injury but had three assists against Vancouver and should return Saturday versus the Los Angeles Kings. The new was far worse regarding Connor Brown. The forward, acquired from the Senators in the offseason to help cover Wilson's absence, left Monday's game with a lower-body injury and was placed on long-term injured reserve Wednesday. Connor McMichael, 21, who scored 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in 69 games last season, will make his 2022-23 debut against the Senators. |

10-20-22 | Ducks v. Bruins OVER 6.5 | 1-2 | Loss | -113 | 4 h 23 m | Show
The Boston Bruins host the Anaheim Ducks in a Thursday night clash of two teams in the midst of a busy week. On Tuesday, Boston ran into a rested Ottawa team and fell 7-5 despite David Pastrnak and captain Patrice Bergeron posting a goal and two assists apiece. The game marked the second contest of a back-to-back and part of overlapping stretches of three in four nights for the Bruins. |

10-20-22 | Sharks v. Rangers -1.5 | 3-2 | Loss | -115 | 4 h 8 m | Show
On Feb. 8, 2018, the New York Rangers sent a letter to their fans announcing they were rebuilding, and three months later David Quinn was anointed to coach the retooling effort. Quinn's tenure lasted three seasons before he was replaced by Gerard Gallant, whose first season saw the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference finals in an electrifying postseason run last spring. After a year away Quinn is off to a rough start with his new team and makes his return to New York when the San Jose Sharks attempt to halt an ugly season-opening, five-game skid Thursday night at Madison Square Garden. Quinn was 96-87-25 in 208 regular-season games with the Rangers, who hired him to follow Alain Vigneault's tenure that saw a trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 2014 and a trip to the conference finals in 2015. Quinn's only playoff appearance resulted in three losses in the qualifying round to the Carolina Hurricanes in the Toronto bubble in 2020 when the playoff field was expanded to 12 teams after a four-month COVID-19 pause. At the time of the pause, the Rangers were in the midst of going 14-7-1 to get into playoff contention while transitioning from Henrik Lundqvist to Igor Shesterkin in goal and enjoying the first season of Artemi Panarin. When the league played a 56-game season and the Rangers lost seven of their final 11 games, Quinn was fired along with general manager Jeff Gorton and president John Davidson. After Quinn was axed, Gallant guided the Rangers to 52 wins, seven-game wins over Pittsburgh and Carolina in the first two rounds before losing a six-game series to Tampa Bay. |

10-19-22 | Jets v. Avalanche -1.5 | 4-3 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 28 m | Show
The Colorado Avalanche made some tough choices in the offseason, and so far they're paying off. Colorado signed Josh Manson and Valeri Nichushkin to long-term deals, which didn't leave enough cap space to keep Nazem Kadri around. Keeping Manson and Nichushkin have looked like good decision three games into the new season. Both scored in a 6-3 win at Minnesota on Monday night to complete a quick two-game road trip. Now the Avalanche head home to face the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night. Nichushkin revitalized his career with Colorado and was rewarded with an eight-year, $49 million contract in the summer. Manson, acquired at the trade deadline last season, is locked up for four years. Both have played a vital role in the first three games this season. Manson ended up having the game-winning goal against the Wild; Nichushkin added an empty-netter to go along with his two assists, and he now has four goals playing on the top line. But Colorado's motor is Nathan MacKinnon, who signed an extension that will kick in after this season and, for now, will make him the highest-paid player in the NHL. He has done nothing to make the Avalanche regret the investment; he has two goals and five assists in the first three games. |

10-18-22 | Sabres v. Oilers OVER 6.5 | 4-2 | Loss | -140 | 8 h 3 m | Show
In their first two games this season, the Edmonton Oilers have dug themselves deep holes early then trying to find their way out. That's something they are looking to correct Tuesday night when they host the Buffalo Sabres. The Oilers have trailed by three goals after the first 21 minutes of each of their two games, most recently spotting four goals to the Calgary Flames in the first period Saturday and eventually losing 4-3. In their season opener against the Vancouver Canucks, they trailed 2-0 in the first period and were down by three less than a minute into the second before rallying for a 5-3 stunner, after a hat trick from Connor McDavid. "It's tough to come back every single night, so it's something we've definitely got to address," defenseman Cody Ceci said. "It seems like once we get going we're a good team, but you can't play from behind every single night. |

10-18-22 | Ducks v. Devils OVER 6.5 | 2-4 | Loss | -115 | 6 h 57 m | Show
The New Jersey Devils have been slow out of the chute, so coach Lindy Ruff turned up the temperature heading into Tuesday's game against the visiting Anaheim Ducks. The Devils started the season with back-to-back 5-2 losses to the Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings, prompting Ruff to put the Devils through a long fast-paced practice on Monday. "Practice with a purpose," New Jersey center Nico Hischier said afterward. "We practiced on stuff we think we can do better in games, so it's more natural for us, and that's what we do. It's 80 more (games) to go. We're definitely on a new day (Tuesday) and a new game day." The Ducks started the season with an impressive 5-4 come-from-behind win in overtime against the visiting Seattle Kraken on Wednesday, but have dropped the first two games of their five-game road trip. After a very one-sided 7-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Saturday night, the Ducks played better against the New York Rangers on Monday, but still lost 6-4. The Ducks are 7-for-13 on the penalty kill so far this season, and goalie John Gibson has allowed five goals through the first two periods in each of the past two games. Both times he was replaced by Anthony Stolarz, who will likely make his first start of the season against the Devils. |

10-17-22 | Jets v. Stars -137 | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 52 m | Show
So much for the NHL schedule-makers best-laid plans. Winnipeg's game on Monday night at Dallas was supposed to feature the return of former Stars head coach Rick Bowness -- who stepped down after three seasons in May -- behind the Jets' bench. But Bowness, who coached Dallas to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, where they lost in six games to Tampa Bay, won't be on hand after testing positive for COVID-19. Associate coach Scott Arniel took over hours before Winnipeg's season-opening 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Friday and will handle bench duties until Bowness returns. |

10-17-22 | Avalanche v. Wild OVER 6.5 | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 48 m | Show
The celebration on opening night was special for the Colorado Avalanche, but they found out 24 hours later that winning a title means getting every opponent's best game. Colorado won convincingly in its season opener, which included a banner-raising event and the debut of goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, but then host Calgary took it to the defending champs the next night. The Avalanche have had a few days to brush off that 5-3 loss to the Flames and next will take on Central Division rival Minnesota. The Wild are 0-2 amid a four-game homestand to open their season. Colorado and Minnesota developed a rivalry over the past 20 years that made for some good playoff matchups, but the Wild have not played up to the same level as the Avalanche. They have allowed seven goals in each of their losses. Netminder Marc-Andre Fleury heard boos when he was pulled after allowing four goals in Saturday night's loss to the Los Angeles Kings. In two games, Fleury has an 8.37 goals-against average and just a .776 save percentage. |

10-17-22 | Canucks v. Capitals OVER 6 | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 51 m | Show
While the Washington Capitals finally earned their first victory of the season, the search continues for the Vancouver Canucks as they visit the nation's capital on Monday night. Though superstar Alex Ovechkin is without a goal through the first three games for just the second time during his illustrious 18-year career (it also happened in 2012-13), Washington won 3-1 over Montreal on Saturday after losing to Boston and Toronto earlier in the week. T.J. Oshie had a goal with an assist and Darcy Kuemper stopped 21 of 22 shots as all the game's scoring came in the second period. |

10-17-22 | Penguins v. Canadiens OVER 6.5 | 2-3 | Loss | -135 | 4 h 45 m | Show
The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to make it three straight wins to start the season when they visit the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Pittsburgh has won each of its first two games of the season against the Arizona Coyotes and Tampa Bay Lightning, each by 6-2 scores. "They're a proud group," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "They have an appetite to win. To a man, the core group of players that have been here, they're hungry to win. "We talk about it with our players all the time: It's a daily endeavor. It doesn't happen by accident. You've got to go out and earn it in this league every day. Nothing's inevitable. We have good players, but a lot of teams have good players. It takes more than good players to win. You need a certain level of commitment, and I think our guys display that." Monday's game will mark the return of Jeff Petry to his former home. The Canadiens traded the veteran defenseman, along with forward Ryan Poehling, to Pittsburgh after seven seasons and a change in Montreal. |

10-17-22 | Coyotes v. Maple Leafs OVER 6.5 | 4-2 | Loss | -130 | 4 h 38 m | Show
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be going for their third consecutive victory Monday night, while the visiting Arizona Coyotes will be trying for their first of the season. After dropping their season opener to the Canadiens in Montreal on Wednesday, the Maple Leafs have won the first two games of a four-game homestand. Most recently, they defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Saturday night on Justin Holl's goal at 18:05 of the third period. The Coyotes, who are opening the season with a six-game road trip, lost their second straight to open the season Saturday, 6-3 to the Boston Bruins. Ilya Samsonov has played in goal for both of Toronto's wins. Opening-game starting goaltender Matt Murray (groin) was put on long-term injured reserve and will be out about four weeks after being injured during Saturday's morning skate. Murray had been scheduled to start on Saturday against his former team. Samsonov took his place and made 26 saves. "(Samsonov) looked really calm and settled in the net," Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. "You could tell he grew from one start to the next. That's what you are looking for is for a guy to get comfortable. Not expecting to start, but it changes your day, your plans, and all those kind of things, but it didn't look like he missed a beat, so that was good to see." |

10-17-22 | Ducks v. Rangers -1.5 | 4-6 | Win | 114 | 4 h 35 m | Show
Road trips are excellent for team bonding and camaraderie, but the Anaheim Ducks just want to play better when they visit the New York Rangers on Monday night. The Ducks were embarrassed in the opener of their five-game road trip on Saturday night, losing 7-1 to the New York Islanders. "It's embarrassing for everyone," Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said. "I think this is where you've got to (do) a little bit of soul-searching. It should hurt like (heck)." The Islanders scored five goals on Anaheim goalie John Gibson, ending his night after two periods. They tacked on two more in the third period against backup Anthony Stolarz. |

10-17-22 | Canucks +124 v. Capitals | 4-6 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 2 m | Show
While the Washington Capitals finally earned their first victory of the season, the search continues for the Vancouver Canucks as they visit the nation's capital on Monday night. "We have a certain standard that we need to play up to, live up to here, that we weren't doing those first two games," said Oshie, who has three points on the young season. |

10-17-22 | Kings -135 v. Red Wings | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 3 h 57 m | Show
The Los Angeles Kings found an unusual way to secure their first victory of the season and will play at Detroit on Monday, seeking another notch in the win column but not necessarily in the same fashion. The Kings' game against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday was indeed wild, as they pulled out a 7-6 victory at the start of a five-game road swing. They lost at home to Vegas and Seattle prior to the trip. "Strange night," head coach Todd McLellan said. "Maybe that's what we needed to get a win and find a way. (Now) rest, and get ready for Detroit." Adrian Kempe led the offense with two goals and an assist, including the game-winner at 8:03 of the third period. Matt Roy, Alex Iafallo and Gabriel Vilardi each contributed a goal and an assist, while Anze Kopitar had three assists. Los Angeles scored a combined four goals in its first two games. |

10-13-22 | Blackhawks v. Golden Knights -1.5 | 0-1 | Loss | -130 | 12 h 21 m | Show
The Golden Knights will try and make it two wins in a row on Thursday when they face the Chicago Blackhawks in Las Vegas in their home opener. Mark Stone, who underwent offseason back surgery to repair a painful nerve injury, fired a wrist shot from the right circle past Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick to help Vegas notch two points. "I was happy for him," Bruce Cassidy said after winning his Golden Knights coaching debut. "You can see how excited the bench was. The Guys were jumping all over the place in Game 1. I think they're excited for Mark to see him back healthy and contributing." Stone, who had a streak of seven seasons with at least 20 goals snapped last season, downplayed the goal postgame. |
