10-27-23 | Blackhawks v. Golden Knights -1.5 | 4-3 | Loss | -119 | 6 h 23 m | Show
The Connor Bedard road show makes its first stop on the big stage of Las Vegas with a matinee Friday afternoon, when the Chicago Blackhawks try to snap a three-game losing streak against the unbeaten Vegas Golden Knights. The NHL schedule-makers certainly didn't do any favors for Bedard, the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft who is considered by many a generational talent, and the rebuilding Blackhawks. This will be the fourth straight game against an unbeaten opponent and the second in a week against the defending Stanley Cup champions. The brutal eight-day stretch began with a 4-0 loss at Colorado on Oct. 19 and was followed by home losses to the Golden Knights (5-3) on Saturday and reigning Presidents' Trophy winner Boston (3-0) on Tuesday. Heading into Thursday's action, those three teams were a combined 19-0. Chicago was tied heading into the third period in its loss to Vegas and trailed Boston 1-0 after 40 minutes but was outscored a combined 5-1 in the final period by those two teams. Frustrated Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said his squad needed to be tougher in crunch time. |

10-26-23 | Wild -1.5 v. Flyers | Top | 2-6 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 43 m | Show |
The Minnesota Wild will look to carry their offensive momentum into Thursday's road matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Wild rallied for five goals in the third period on their way to a 7-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Ryan Hartman recorded a five-point game -- a hat trick and two assists. The five points tied his career high, and the hat trick was the second of his career. Hartman's other three-goal performance occurred on Jan. 8, 2017, when he played for the Chicago Blackhawks. "We (Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov) were able to find each other early," Hartman said. "We kind of talked about it as a line. We've been watching some shifts together, and too many times we were trying to get inside or were forcing it a little bit. You know, I think we've kind of been keeping it and waiting for our moment to strike as opposed to forcing it. |

10-26-23 | Blue Jackets v. Canadiens -108 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 16 m | Show
Amid a busy stretch this week, the Montreal Canadiens will next be tasked with trying to cool off one of the NHL's promising rookies. Columbus' Adam Fantilli looks to continue the strong start to his career, while also trying to help the visiting Blue Jackets extend their point streak to four games on Thursday night against the Canadiens. While plenty of eyes are rightfully on celebrated 2023 top overall pick Connor Bedard in Chicago, the 19-year-old Fantilli, taken two picks later, has shown his worth right out of the gate. He already has two goals with two assists through his first six games for the Blue Jackets, who have recorded five points in their past three contests. Fantilli scored in his second straight game, and recorded an assist, during Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to visiting Anaheim. |
|||||||
10-26-23 | Ducks v. Bruins -1.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -118 | 7 h 22 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins are 6-0-0 for only the second time in franchise history. Ahead of a four-game homestand that starts Thursday against the visiting Anaheim Ducks, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery believes his team's game and overall identity continued to evolve while sweeping a four-game road trip, which concluded with a 3-0 win over Chicago on Tuesday. |
|||||||
10-25-23 | Capitals +1.5 v. Devils | Top | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 44 m | Show |
A team that has scored 10 goals over its past two games squares off against one struggling to find the net when the New Jersey Devils face the Washington Capitals on Wednesday in Newark, N.J. Both teams will be playing the second of back-to-back nights after the visiting Devils defeated the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 on Tuesday while the host Capitals dropped a 4-1 decision to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tyler Toffoli had a hat trick for the Devils, Jack Hughes continued his torrid start with four assists and Vitek Vanecek made 27 saves for New Jersey, which will look for its third straight win. The Devils edged the New York Islanders 5-4 in overtime on Friday. Hughes has four goals and 10 assists in five games, including back-to-back four-point contests. |
|||||||
10-25-23 | Capitals v. Devils OVER 6.5 | Top | 6-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 39 m | Show |

10-24-23 | Coyotes +1.5 v. Kings | 3-6 | Loss | -140 | 13 h 31 m | Show
The Arizona Coyotes are standing tall through a challenging early schedule and are out to extend their success with a visit to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday. Despite playing four of their first five games on the road, the Coyotes are 3-2-0 to open the season. It is the first time since the 2015-16 season Arizona delivered three victories in its first five games. The Coyotes finally played their first home game Saturday and put together a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks when Clayton Keller and Jason Zucker scored goals. It was also the first time they won their home opener since October 2016. The Ducks tried to lean into the Coyotes with a tough, physical style of play and the Coyotes matched it and then some. |
|||||||
10-24-23 | Hurricanes v. Lightning +112 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 112 | 9 h 57 m | Show |
The Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning will meet for the first time this season on Tuesday night at Tampa, Fla., and both are anxious to put the recent past behind them. The Lightning wasted a 3-1 third-period lead at home Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of their rivals in the Atlantic Division, in the second contest of Tampa Bay's five-game homestand. The game ended in a 4-3 overtime victory for the Leafs when John Tavares put away the Lightning much like he did in late April in the first round of the playoffs. |
|||||||
10-24-23 | Sabres +145 v. Senators | Top | 6-4 | Win | 145 | 9 h 55 m | Show |
Two teams looking to get back on track go head-to-head when the Buffalo Sabres visit the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. The Sabres arrive in Ottawa after dropping a 3-1 decision to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday, their fourth loss in six games to start the season. Buffalo has pumped a combined 80 shots on goal in its past two games -- 37 against Montreal and 43 in a 3-1 win against the New York Islanders on Saturday. The offense, which finished third in the NHL last season with 293 goals, hasn't found its groove yet. The Sabres have scored 13 goals this season, with nine coming across three games. A slow start by last season's dominant line of Thompson, Jeff Skinner and Alex Tuch prompted coach Don Granato to switch things up late last week, putting Thompson between Dylan Cozens and Jordan Greenway while center Casey Mittelstadt slotted in with Skinner and Tuch. |

10-23-23 | Canadiens v. Sabres OVER 6.5 | Top | 3-1 | Loss | -118 | 30 h 30 m | Show |

10-21-23 | Rangers -128 v. Seattle Kraken | 4-1 | Win | 100 | 11 h 52 m | Show
The Rangers have scored a power-play goal in each of their four games this season. It's the Rangers' longest power-play goal streak to begin a season since 2005-06 (first nine games).Expect the Rangers to play much better than they did against Nashville at home
|
|||||||
10-21-23 | Islanders v. Sabres -1.5 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 203 | 8 h 14 m | Show |
The Buffalo Sabres are accustomed to lamenting their performance on defense. For the defensively oriented New York Islanders, their Friday loss was a jarring and unusual experience. A pair of teams looking to bounce back from porous efforts are slated to meet Saturday night when the Sabres host the Islanders in a battle of Eastern Conference rivals. The Sabres, in the midst of a four-game homestand, were off Friday after falling to the Calgary Flames 4-3 on Thursday. The Islanders will be completing their first back-to-back set of the season after losing to the New Jersey Devils 5-4 in overtime on Friday in Elmont, N.Y. The Thursday defeat cost the Sabres -- who beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday -- a chance to build their first winning streak of the season. Buffalo overcame a trio of one-goal deficits on Thursday but never took the lead against the Flames, whose four go-ahead goals tied for second most in franchise history. Adam Ruzicka scored the game-winner for the Flames at the 4:35 mark of the third, just 81 seconds after JJ Peterka collected the tying goal for the Sabres. Buffalo, which is in the midst of an NHL-record 12-year playoff drought, has allowed 14 goals through four games this season. The Sabres gave up 1,277 goals the previous five seasons, third most in the NHL, ahead of only the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. |
|||||||
10-21-23 | Capitals v. Canadiens UNDER 6.5 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 47 m | Show |
The Montreal Canadiens will wrap up a three-game homestand when they host the Washington Capitals on Saturday night. Both teams are coming in off losses and dealing with early-season difficulties. After opening their homestand with a win over the Chicago Blackhawks, the Canadiens dropped a 5-2 decision to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday. Minnesota scored three power-play goals and added two short-handed tallies. The Wild went 3-for-8 on the power play, and the Canadiens were 0-for-5. |
|||||||
10-20-23 | Devils -117 v. Islanders | Top | 5-4 | Win | 100 | 10 h 50 m | Show |
The New Jersey Devils will hit the road for the first time this season when they visit the New York Islanders on Friday night. The Devils didn't take advantage of a three-game homestand to open the season. After beating the Detroit Red Wings in the season opener, they lost a shootout against the Arizona Coyotes and then dropped a 4-3 decision to the Florida Panthers on Monday. New Jersey has had plenty of time to prepare for the Islanders, and coach Lindy Ruff hopes to see some improvement. |
|||||||
10-20-23 | Flames -138 v. Blue Jackets | 1-3 | Loss | -138 | 8 h 43 m | Show
Once again, the Columbus Blue Jackets have limped out of the gates. Heading into Friday's clash with the visiting Calgary Flames, the Blue Jackets have a 1-2-0 record and have been outscored 11-7, with the latest defeat a 4-0 thumping at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. The Blue Jackets have had plenty of time to stew about their performance while preparing to face a Flames team that arrives after a 4-3 road win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. |
|||||||
10-20-23 | Flames v. Blue Jackets OVER 6.5 | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -115 | 8 h 40 m | Show |
The Blue Jackets, who are finishing a four-game homestand to start the season, have surrendered the first goal in all three games they have played thus far. Adding to their woes is an inability to stick with the game plan after falling behind. The Flames, who are playing the fourth contest in a five-game road trip, snapped a two-game skid in Buffalo, where they have won six consecutive games. Calgary surrendered the lead on three occasions before Adam Ruzicka's early third-period goal held up as the game-winner. |
|||||||
10-19-23 | Blackhawks v. Avalanche UNDER 6.5 | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 18 h 2 m | Show
Chicago Blackhawks fans have been impatiently waiting to see the newest wunderkind make his home debut, but they'll have to wait a little longer. On the other hand, Colorado Avalanche fans finally get to see their team on home ice. Connor Bedard, Chicago's center who was the top pick in the NHL draft in June, is set to play his fifth NHL game, and all of them have been on the road. Blackhawks fans will get their first regular-season look at Bedard Saturday after Chicago faces the Avalanche in Denver Thursday night. With the hype Bedard has created, he has drawn many comparisons to 2015 No. 1 overall pick and Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid. So far, Bedard has lived up to the hefty expectations. He has one goal and two assists, and Chicago has split its first four games of the season. Bedard recorded a point in each of his first three games before being kept off the scoresheet in a 4-1 win at Toronto Monday night. Despite being just 18 years old, Bedard has done a fine job of dealing with the pressures of being in the NHL. |
|||||||
10-19-23 | Oilers v. Flyers UNDER 7 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 15 h 58 m | Show |
It has been a long and winding road back for Sean Couturier. Following nearly two lost seasons and two surgeries on his back, Couturier looks healthy. The forward scored a goal for the first time since Dec. 10, 2021 and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 2-0 on Tuesday. The Flyers will now look for their second consecutive victory when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. After being swept in a home-and-home matchup with the Canucks to open the season, the Oilers bounced back in a big way. The Oilers were dominant from start to finish in a 6-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman each picked up four points and goaltender Jack Campbell made 42 saves. Draisaitl scored his 127th and 128th career power-play goals which catapulted him past Glenn Anderson and Ryan Smyth for the Oilers' all-time franchise record. Draisaitl has scored in all three games this season. |
|||||||
10-19-23 | Maple Leafs -130 v. Panthers | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -130 | 15 h 36 m | Show |
Florida, which went 1-2-0 during its season-opening road trip, will be surrounded by its faithful after last season's run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Florida eliminated Toronto in five games during the second round of the playoffs in May. Panthers center Sam Reinhart, who beat Toronto in Game 3 of last year's playoff series with his overtime goal, is off to a fast start in the current campaign. In three games, Reinhart has three goals and an assist. Two of those goals were deflections in Florida's 4-3 win over the host New Jersey Devils on Monday night at Newark. N.J. Auston Matthews, William Nylander and John Tavares lead Toronto with six points each. Matthews tops the team in goals (six) and Tavares has the most assists (five). Only eight Leafs players - including Matthews, Nylander and Tavares - were with the team during the 2022 playoffs. The rest of the cast has changed, and the Leafs are now a harder-edged team with the addition of veteran players such as the 36-year-old Ryan Reaves, John Klingberg, 31, Tyler Bertuzzi, 28, and Max Domi, 28. Still, the Leafs were outplayed on Monday night in a 4-1 home loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. |
|||||||
10-18-23 | Penguins v. Red Wings +114 | Top | 3-6 | Win | 114 | 7 h 27 m | Show |
Pittsburgh and Detroit both have won their last two games after a season-opening loss. They'll match up on the Red Wings' home ice on Wednesday night. The Penguins were defeated by Chicago 4-2, then won both ends of a back-to-back over the weekend. They shut out Washington 4-0 on the road, then returned home for a 5-2 victory over Calgary. Evgeni Malkin has gotten off to a strong start. The 37-year-old forward has six points, including a goal and an assist against the Flames. Malkin drew extra motivation in the offseason after missing the playoffs last season, the first time in his career the Penguins didn't participate in the postseason. |
|||||||
10-18-23 | Capitals v. Senators -165 | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 1 m | Show
The Ottawa Senators will aim for their third straight win when they host the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night. Ottawa opened a five-game homestand with a pair of 5-2 wins against the Philadelphia Flyers and Tampa Bay Lightning over the weekend. Washington begins a brief two-game Canada swing after splitting a pair of home games. After being blanked by the Pittsburgh Penguins on opening night, the Capitals rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Calgary Flames 3-2 in a shootout Monday night. Senators star Brady Tkachuk scored twice for the second straight game and had an assist against the Lightning on Sunday. |

10-17-23 | Stars v. Golden Knights UNDER 6 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 13 h 56 m | Show
The Vegas Golden Knights will try to match their best start to a season in franchise history on Tuesday night when they host the Dallas Stars in Las Vegas in a rematch of last season's Western Conference final. The defending Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights have opened the season with a 3-0-0 start for the fourth time in the team's seven-year history thanks to three straight 4-1 victories over Seattle, San Jose and Anaheim. Vegas also started 3-0-0 in 2017-18 before losing at home to Detroit, and last season before dropping a decision at Calgary. The team's best start came in 2020-21 when they began 4-0-0. |
|||||||
10-17-23 | Coyotes v. Islanders -1.5 | Top | 0-1 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 6 m | Show |
Brock Nelson enjoyed a breakout year last season when he followed a career-high 37 goals by scoring 36 times and producing a career-best 75 points to help the New York Islanders reach the playoffs. Nelson started the new campaign strong, recording a multi-point game in the season opener, and he will attempt to help the Islanders win their second straight contest on Tuesday night when they host the Arizona Coyotes in Elmont, N.Y. The Islanders are seeking their first 2-0-0 start since opening the 2014-15 season with a four-game winning streak. They began this season by earning a 3-2 victory in their home opener, beating the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. Nelson scored New York's first goal of the season 5:57 into the contest and then collected the primary assist on Kyle Palmieri's tally late in the opening period. Casey Cizikas scored on a redirection of Adam Pelech's shot in the third after the Islanders squandered a two-goal lead. Nelson started the season on a line with Pierre Engvall and Palmieri, and that trio combined for four points and eight of New York's 29 shots on goal. It was a game that seemed to mirror many from last season, when the Islanders won 15 games decided by one goal. |
|||||||
10-17-23 | Lightning v. Sabres -1.5 | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 53 m | Show |
Steven Stamkos still might not be available to help the Tampa Bay Lightning avoid their first 0-3-0 road start in 14 years. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Sabres are still searching for their first victory anywhere this season. Stamkos could miss a second consecutive contest as the Lightning again try for their initial road victory Tuesday night. Tampa Bay opened the season by rallying with four third-period goals to win 5-3 over Nashville at home. Since then, however, the Lightning fell 6-4 at Detroit and yielded the final three goals during Sunday's 5-2 loss at Ottawa. |
|||||||
10-16-23 | Blackhawks v. Maple Leafs OVER 6.5 | 4-1 | Loss | -120 | 15 h 43 m | Show
Auston Matthews will look to continue his torrid scoring pace Monday night when his Toronto Maple Leafs face the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. Matthews scored three goals for the second consecutive game Saturday night in a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Wild. He also scored three times against the Montreal Canadiens in the season opener, a 6-5 shootout win Wednesday night. Toronto will end a three-game, season-opening homestand against prized rookie Connor Bedard and the Blackhawks, who lost 3-2 at Montreal on Saturday. Matthews has nine career hat tricks. He is the fifth player in NHL history to have a hat trick in each of his first two games to start a season, joining Alex Ovechkin (2017-18), Cy Denneny (1917-18), Joe Malone (1917-18) and Reg Noble (1917-18). |
|||||||
10-16-23 | Coyotes v. Rangers -1.5 | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -100 | 15 h 50 m | Show |
While the Arizona Coyotes spent Saturday enjoying their resilience from a successful season opener, the New York Rangers were unable to replicate everything they did well in their opening game under new coach Peter Laviolette. After opening the season by beating the New Jersey Devils, the Coyotes will attempt to win their first two games of a season for the first time since 2015-16 when they visit the Rangers, who'll hope to improve defensively in their home opener on Monday night. Arizona is opening the season with a four-game road trip before hosting Anaheim in its home opener Saturday. The Coyotes began the trip by scoring the first two goals and giving up three straight before getting a 4-3 victory in a shootout over the Devils on Friday. Nick Schmaltz scored the tying goal on a power play for 3-3 in the third after Matt Dumba and Sean Durzi scored. Schmaltz also scored in the shootout along with Nick Bjugstad, while goalie Karel Vejmelka made 33 saves and two more in the shootout. |
|||||||
10-16-23 | Panthers +166 v. Devils | Top | 4-3 | Win | 166 | 15 h 38 m | Show |
The Florida Panthers, who last season reached the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1996, are set to visit the New Jersey Devils on Monday night in Newark. New Jersey is coming off a surprising season in which the Devils set franchise records for wins (52) and points (112). Florida is off to a slow start, losing its first two games. The trek to New Jersey will culminate a three-game road trip, and the Panthers will finally get their home opener on Thursday against Toronto. The Panthers' most recent game was a 6-4 loss at Winnipeg on Saturday. One reason why is that they are missing their two top defensemen -- Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour. Both are on injured reserve. Ekblad had 14 goals last season, which marked the eighth time in nine years that he has reached double figures in that statistic. Montour last season set career highs with 16 goals and 57 assists, and his 73 points topped Florida defensemen. Without those two, the Panthers still have a standout defenseman in speedy Gustav Forsling, who last season set career highs in goals (13) and assists (28), playing all 82 games. |

10-15-23 | Hurricanes v. Ducks +1.5 | 3-6 | Win | 100 | 21 h 9 m | Show
10-15-23 | Lightning v. Senators UNDER 6.5 | Top | 2-5 | Loss | -100 | 20 h 44 m | Show |

10-14-23 | Canucks v. Oilers -195 | 4-3 | Loss | -195 | 14 h 18 m | Show
Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers have found the positive of their season-opening debacle and are ready to make amends when they play host to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. The Canucks handed the heavily favored Oilers an 8-1 drubbing in Vancouver in the first half of the home-and-home set. Now, the Oilers will set out to prove their mettle in their home opener. "Obviously, we didn't want that to happen, no doubt about it, but we did and we'll learn from it and we'll move on," Draisaitl said. "Sometimes it's good to get smacked a little bit and get back to work." Draisaitl, who has collected at least one point in 19 consecutive games against the Canucks (netting 14 goals and 17 assists in that streak), added: "They're going to see a different team from us." While Draisaitl meant his club will provide a better performance, the Oilers expect a noteworthy change to their roster, as well. Defenseman Mattias Ekholm missed the opener due to a hip flexor issue that nagged him through training camp, but appears ready to take his spot on the top pairing with Evan Bouchard. In turn, the Oilers will be able to team Darnell Nurse and Cody Ceci as another pairing and place Brett Kulak and Philip Broberg together for the third duo. |
|||||||
10-14-23 | Predators v. Bruins -171 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 27 m | Show |
The opening to the Boston Bruins' centennial season was no on-ice masterpiece. After David Pastrnak's two goals helped the Bruins grind out a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, Boston will try to keep improving its game on Saturday as it welcomes in the Nashville Predators to complete a season-opening, two-game homestand. As for the opener, there was some good, and some bad. All to be expected. I expect Boston the be much better than they were in game one. |
|||||||
10-14-23 | Blackhawks +130 v. Canadiens | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 12 m | Show |
Connor Bedard will make his first trip north of the United States border when the Chicago Blackhawks visit the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Bedard, the highly touted No. 1 overall pick by Chicago in the 2023 NHL Draft, notched his first NHL goal in a 3-1 loss at the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, a day after producing his first assist in a 4-2 victory at the Pittsburgh Penguins. |
|||||||
10-13-23 | Penguins -1.5 v. Capitals | 4-0 | Win | 208 | 10 h 8 m | Show
The Washington Capitals and visiting Pittsburgh Penguins will be looking for a fresh start Friday, even though only one of them will be playing in a season opener. Both teams are looking to rebound after missing the playoffs last season, but only the Capitals will be dropping the curtain on 2023-24. On a team closely identified with 38-year-old goal-scoring machine Alex Ovechkin, Washington has incorporated a new slogan, Something to Prove, which is displayed in the locker room. While there are some new faces among the players, the fresh beginning starts with first-year coach Spencer Carbery, the youngest head coach in the NHL at 41. |
|||||||
10-13-23 | Penguins v. Capitals OVER 6.5 | Top | 4-0 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 4 m | Show |
Pittsburgh played Tuesday, but the Penguins didn't exactly turn the page as they hoped. Despite a roughly 50 percent turnover in the roster during the offseason, they were plagued by lingering frustrations from last season. They had some defensive lapses, didn't rev the engines later in the game and blew a two-goal lead in a 4-2 setback to the Chicago Blackhawks. Most of Pittsburgh's newcomers could be described as players in support roles. The main guys, then, saw all-too-familiar problems in the opening loss. Last season, the Penguins lost nine games in which they led after two periods. They'll be plenty of scoring in this one. |
|||||||
10-13-23 | Coyotes v. Devils OVER 6.5 | Top | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 47 m | Show |
The New Jersey Devils know what it's like to finally see a lengthy rebuild produce results. Now the Arizona Coyotes would like to begin experiencing the same thing. The Coyotes will open their season Friday night when they oppose Devils in Newark, N.J., the beginning of a four-game Arizona road trip. The Devils, fresh off their deepest trip into the Stanley Cup playoffs in more than a decade, will be completing a back-to-back set at home after edging the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 in their season opener on Thursday. The Devils snapped a four-season playoff drought last year. They collected a franchise-record 112 points in the regular season before outlasting the New York Rangers in a seven-game first-round series -- New Jersey's first postseason series victory since reaching the Stanley Cup Final in the spring of 2012. New Jersey fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in five games in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but the taste of playoff success was enough for management to double down on its young core and coaching staff. General manager Tom Fitzgerald signed Timo Meier, who turned 27 this week, and 25-year-old Jesper Bratt to eight-year contracts while also re-signing 32-year-old left winger Erik Haula, who was one of just four Devils skaters aged 30 or older last season. In addition, head coach Lindy Ruff received a multiyear extension on Wednesday. Jack Hughes, who collected a franchise-record 99 points while playing as a 21-year-old last season, scored twice in a span of 5:04 late in the second period Thursday to help the Devils overcome an early deficit. |

10-12-23 | Seattle Kraken v. Predators -108 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 4 h 3 m | Show |
Opening night did not go the way either the Seattle Kraken or Nashville Predators had hoped. Each will get the chance to make up for that Thursday night when the teams meet in Nashville. The Predators opened the season Tuesday with a 5-3 loss at Tampa Bay despite a goal and an assist from newcomer Ryan O'Reilly. A few hours later, the Kraken lost 4-1 on the road against the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights. At least the Kraken got to view a championship banner-raising ceremony. Predators bounce back at home |
|||||||
10-12-23 | Red Wings v. Devils -1.5 | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 22 m | Show |
The Devils racked up 52 wins and 112 points last season after failing to qualify for the postseason the previous four campaigns. They lost to Carolina in the second round of the playoffs. New Jersey acquired 34-goal scorer Tyler Toffoli from the Calgary Flames but otherwise will ride with the group that produced the third-most points in the league last season. The Devils are led by Jack Hughes, who had team-leading totals in goals (43), assists (56) and points (99) in 78 games last season. He added 11 more points (six goals, five assists) in 12 postseason contests. The top overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft should be even more dangerous after his breakout season. |
|||||||
10-12-23 | Rangers v. Sabres +118 | 5-1 | Loss | -100 | 3 h 56 m | Show
The Buffalo Sabres own the NHL's longest playoff drought and last year came tantalizingly close to ending it. This time, the Sabres hope to do enough in the regular season to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 2010-11. They begin a season of raised expectations Thursday night when they host the New York Rangers, who are playing their first game under new coach Peter Laviolette. The Sabres were 42-33-7 last season and finished with 91 points but wound up one point behind the Florida Panthers for the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. It was their most points and wins since getting 96 and going 43-29-10 in 2010-11. Last season ended with a 9-2-1 run over their final 12 games after an early eight-game losing streak spoiled a 7-3-0 start. Buffalo enters its third full season under coach Don Granato after scoring 293 goals, which ranked third in the NHL. Tage Thompson scored 47 goals and finished with 94 points, while linemates Jeff Skinner and Alex Tuch totaled 82 and 79 points, respectively. The Sabres also bring back one of the league's top defensemen in Rasmus Dahlin, who signed an eight-year extension earlier this week after posting 15 goals and 73 points a year ago. Sabres get off to a winning start tonight |

10-11-23 | Avalanche -110 v. Kings | Top | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 19 h 12 m | Show |
Colorado won't have Landeskog, the team's captain, again this year as he recovers from major knee surgery, but the team tried to address its depth-scoring issues with offseason moves. The Avalanche added veteran Ryan Johansen in a trade with Nashville and signed free agent Jonathan Drouin to shore up their top-six forward liabilities. J.T. Compher, who moved up to center the second line last season, signed with Detroit. Colorado won it all two years ago because of depth and top-level talent, and the latter is still there. Nathan MacKinnon is one of the best centers in the league and shifts his game into another gear in the playoffs, and Cale Makar is considered by many to be the best defenseman in the NHL. The Avalanche have had significant departures, most notably defenseman Erik Johnson, but the blue-line corps remains strong. The third and fourth lines are important for depth scoring, so Colorado hopes that Andrew Cogliano has recovered from two neck fractures suffered in the first-round loss to Seattle. |
|||||||
10-11-23 | Jets v. Flames OVER 6 | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 19 h 54 m | Show
The Flames are counting on players such as No. 1 goalie Jacob Markstrom and top-level forwards Jonathan Huberdeau, Elias Lindholm and Nazem Kadri to regain their form of previous seasons. Calgary will also integrate a couple of important newcomers in rookie Matt Coronato and Yegor Sharangovich, acquired from the New Jersey Devils in the summer. As for the Jets, they boast a trio of new faces in forwards Gabriel Vilardi, Alex Iafallo and Rasmus Kupari, who were all acquired in the offseason trade that sent second-line center Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Los Angeles Kings. An even bigger story was the news on Monday that top-line center Mark Scheifele and star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck both re-signed on long-term deals. Both could have become unrestricted free agents after the season but elected to sign seven-year extensions worth $8.5 million per season. Now able to focus more on the season, the Jets will try to improve their squad by inserting third-year NHLer Cole Perfetti into the second-line center spot after mainly playing as a winger. Perfetti, who collected eight goals and 30 points in 51 games last season, has one advantage while attempting to evolve his game: Scheifele has been tutoring him. |

10-11-23 | Blackhawks v. Bruins OVER 6 | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -108 | 16 h 18 m | Show |
A pair of Original Six franchises at the beginning of new eras will clash on Wednesday night when the host Boston Bruins open their season against rookie sensation Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago caps a back-to-back after scoring four unanswered goals to lift the lid on its season with a 4-2 win at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. After scoring the NHL's fewest goals during their 26-win 2022-23 campaign, the Blackhawks are looking to the 18-year-old Bedard to provide a major offensive spark. The most recent No. 1 overall draft pick became the youngest player to record a point in his NHL debut since 2013, getting an assist on Ryan Donato's second-period goal. Bedard's five shots on goal in 21:29 of ice time were a team high. |
|||||||
10-10-23 | Seattle Kraken v. Golden Knights -165 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 34 h 36 m | Show |
The Golden Knights traded veteran forward Reilly Smith to Pittsburgh for a third-round draft pick but the rest of the top three lines, led by Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault and leading playoff scorer Jack Eichel, as well as the top three defensive pairs and goaltender Adin Hill, all return. |
|||||||
10-10-23 | Blackhawks v. Penguins OVER 6.5 | 4-2 | Loss | -115 | 31 h 56 m | Show
It's the NHL season opener for both teams Tuesday, a time for the Pittsburgh Penguins and visiting Chicago Blackhawks to unveil their lineups and get a new start toward trying to return to the playoffs. However, that all could be overshadowed by a specific matchup. Pittsburgh captain, center and sure Hall of Fame inductee Sidney Crosby will be on the opposite side from Chicago highly touted rookie center Connor Bedard, the top pick in the 2023 draft. Crosby, entering his 19th NHL season, has led the Penguins to three Stanley Cup titles, has 550 goals and 1,502 points in 1,190 games and has won two Hart (MVP), two Art Ross (scoring title) and two Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) trophies. Now 36, he hasn't changed his approach as he's aged. |

10-10-23 | Predators v. Lightning UNDER 6.5 | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -120 | 29 h 35 m | Show |
Tampa Bay will begin its quest for a fourth Stanley Cup on Tuesday by hosting the Nashville Predators, but the Lightning will do it under decidedly unfamiliar circumstances. Coach Jon Cooper's group will be without star goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy for at least the first two months after the 2019 Vezina Trophy winner underwent back surgery in late September. That predicament -- playing perhaps one-third of the season's games without one of the NHL's premier backstops -- adds pressure to not let the campaign slip away before 2024 arrives. Cooper will turn to Swedish goaltender Jonas Johansson, 28, whose track record over 35 career NHL matches suggests the Lightning's offense will need to be in top form. Over his four-year career, Johansson is 11-13-4 with a 3.35 goals-against average and an .886 save percentage, though he did play his best hockey in two recent stints with the Colorado Avalanche. In his first two starts this preseason, he denied a combined 67 shots in shutouts over the Carolina Hurricanes (42 saves) and Florida Panthers (25). Don't overreact, that's exactly what this number is counting on. |

03-29-23 | Islanders v. Capitals +104 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 37 m | Show |
The New York Islanders will attempt to bolster their bid for a playoff spot and deliver a blow to the flickering hopes of the Washington Capitals on Wednesday when the teams meet in the nation's capital. The Islanders (38-28-9, 85 points) enter the opener of their three-game road trip having won seven of their last 11 games (7-3-1). While they hold the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, the Capitals (34-32-8, 76 points), in turn, have lost four of their last five games (1-3-1) to find themselves in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2013-14. Kyle Palmieri collected two goals and an assist to help New York snap a two-game winless skid with 5-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Monday. |
|||||||
03-28-23 | Canadiens v. Flyers -165 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 5 m | Show
The suddenly hot Philadelphia Flyers will look for their fourth consecutive victory when they host the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. The Flyers (28-32-12, 68 points) extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1) with a resounding 3-0 shutout of the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. Goaltender Carter Hart stopped all 29 shots he faced while Scott Laughton, Kieffer Bellows and Tyson Foerster scored one goal each in the balanced effort. Despite a frustrating season for the most part, the young Flyers have played much better lately in almost every area. "You could understand if some guys kind of just rolled over and just went out there and played," Philadelphia forward Morgan Frost said. "But we're going out there to win every game, and it feels good in the room. It makes it a lot more fun to come to the rink." The penalty kill has been solid, especially in the past two wins. The Flyers killed off all seven power plays against the Red Wings and are 10-for-10 in the past two games. Philadelphia head coach John Tortorella credited assistant Brad Shaw with an adjustment in the penalty kill. |

03-27-23 | Oilers v. Coyotes +280 | 5-4 | Loss | -100 | 12 h 20 m | Show

03-27-23 | Seattle Kraken v. Wild OVER 6 | 1-5 | Push | 0 | 10 h 24 m | Show
Seattle's Matty Beniers has long been considered the favorite for the Calder Trophy, given to the NHL's top rookie. After all, how many first-year players are centering the top line for a team that appears bound for the playoffs? But there have been a few bumps in the road for Beniers, whose wild-card leading Kraken (40-24-8, 88 points) face a potential first-round Western Conference playoff preview when they travel Monday to Minnesota (42-22-9, 93 points). Beniers snapped a 13-game goalless drought in a 7-2 victory Saturday at Nashville. That gave him 20 goals and 50 points on the season. "That happens in hockey, it's a lot of games and you go without scoring," said Beniers, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft who made a 10-game cameo with the expansion Kraken last season after finishing his University of Michigan campaign. "Not everyone but some guys do and that's part of the game. You've just got to get through it, play your game and not think about it too much." Beniers built up his rookie-of-the-year resume early in the season, scoring 17 goals and adding 19 assists before a blind-side hit from Vancouver's Tyler Myers in late January gave Beniers a concussion and prevented him from participating in the All-Star Game. Beniers has produced just three goals and 11 assists in the two months since. |
|||||||
03-27-23 | Canadiens v. Sabres UNDER 7 | 4-3 | Push | 0 | 9 h 30 m | Show
Though the Buffalo Sabres may fall short of ending their lengthy playoff drought, they continue to push. Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens are just looking to finish a disappointing season in strong fashion. The Sabres aim for a third consecutive victory when they host the Canadiens on Monday night. With 10 games left in the regular season, Buffalo (35-31-6, 76 points) has a chance to post at least 40 wins for the first time since 2010-11. That was also the last time the Sabres made the playoffs. However, they entered Sunday six points out of the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, with a team ahead of them. Buffalo is just 4-8-2 since Feb. 28, but two of those victories have come in the last two games. Kyle Okposo broke a scoreless tie in the third period, Jeff Skinner added an empty-netter and Eric Comrie stopped 26 shots in a 2-0 road victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday. |
|||||||
03-26-23 | Blues +1.5 v. Kings | Top | 6-7 | Win | 100 | 14 h 30 m | Show |
The Los Angeles Kings can set a franchise record for the longest point streak when they host the St. Louis Blues on Sunday night. The Kings have earned at least a point in 11 straight games (9-0-2), which ties the team record set in 1974 and matched in 2011, 2013 and again on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory against the visiting Winnipeg Jets. Los Angeles (42-20-10, 94 points) continues to stay on the heels of the equally red-hot Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division standings. Vegas has held Los Angeles off by going 11-2-0 in its past 13 games to maintain a four-point lead over the Kings with nine games left for the Golden Knights and 10 for Los Angeles. The point streak by Los Angeles has been a major topic of conversation around the NHL, but it hasn't been mentioned among the coaches and players. |
|||||||
03-26-23 | Maple Leafs v. Predators +160 | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 4 m | Show
Despite Toronto's frustrating defeat the last time out, Auston Matthews continues to surge for the Maple Leafs. He's also been pretty good against the Nashville Predators, of late. While Matthews looks to stay hot, the Maple Leafs will try to avoid losing consecutive road games for the first time in more than two months on Sunday against the Predators. Sitting second in the Atlantic Division, Toronto (43-20-9, 95 points) is just 6-5-1 in March. On Saturday night, the Maple Leafs often outplayed the Carolina Hurricanes, and leveled things at 3-3 with Matthews' second goal late in regulation. However, the Hurricanes regained the lead 32 seconds later, and won 5-3. The result dropped Toronto to 2-2-0 amid a five-game stretch on the road, where it's 7-5-0 since losing consecutive contests during an 0-2-1 slide from Jan. 12-21. Despite dealing with knee issues this month, Matthews has 10 goals and eight assists during his past 13 games. |
|||||||
03-26-23 | Avalanche v. Coyotes OVER 6.5 | 4-3 | Win | 109 | 6 h 7 m | Show
Following a promising sweep of a four-game homestand, the Arizona Coyotes have followed with a three-game road losing streak. A 3-1 defeat to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday made the Coyotes 0-2-1 over the last three contests. Arizona now looks to exact a bit of revenge when the teams meet again Sunday afternoon in Tempe, Ariz. Arizona (27-34-12, 66 points) has won six in a row at home where it is a solid 20-11-3. The Coyotes defeated the visiting Avalanche on Dec. 27, and they can earn a split of the season series with a win Sunday. They hung tough with the Avalanche on Friday night in Denver until giving up two goals in the third period. It was also the third game in four nights for Arizona, but it wasn't an excuse for coach Andre Tourigny. |
|||||||
03-25-23 | Senators v. Devils -1.5 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 137 | 7 h 22 m | Show |
The New Jersey Devils will aim to reverse their recent fortunes and secure a postseason berth on Saturday when they host the Ottawa Senators in Newark, N.J. The Devils (45-19-8, 98 points) have dropped five of their past six games (1-3-2) and reside two points out of punching their ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. They also sit two points behind the first-place Carolina Hurricanes in the Metropolitan Division. Jack Hughes collected two goals and an assist in New Jersey's 5-4 setback to the host Buffalo Sabres on Friday. The Devils scored two goals in the third period before seeing their comeback bid fall just short as they attempted to secure a postseason berth. "At the end, it doesn't matter," New Jersey captain Nico Hischier said. "We lost the game. Wasn't a good game." Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler said the team was thinking too much about the playoffs and not as much about Friday's opponent. |
|||||||
03-25-23 | Jets v. Kings UNDER 6 | 1-4 | Win | 104 | 4 h 25 m | Show
The Los Angeles Kings are amid their longest points streak of the season -- a stretch that began last month with a victory over the Winnipeg Jets, who appear back to their winning ways following a bumpy span. Looking to run that points streak to 11 games, the host Kings will try to keep the visiting Jets from a third consecutive victory on Saturday. Currently second in the Pacific Division, Los Angeles (41-20-10, 92 points) has outscored its opponents 42-23 during its 8-0-2 stretch - one game shy of matching the club record set in 1974 and matched in 2011 and 2013. Adrian Kempe had two goals with an assist and Carl Grundstrom also scored twice as 14 players posted at least one point for the Kings, who matched their highest-scoring game of the season with Monday's 8-2 rout of visiting Calgary to improve to 9-0-2 at home since the All-Star break. |
|||||||
03-25-23 | Red Wings +125 v. Flyers | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 27 m | Show |
Despite an array of injuries, the young Philadelphia Flyers are growing up. The Flyers improved to 3-0-1 in their last four games following a stirring 5-4 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. Philadelphia (27-32-12, 66 points) will look to keep its positive momentum moving forward when it hosts the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday afternoon. "Pucks are going in for us," said Flyers coach John Tortorella, who picked up his 700th career victory after outlasting the Wild. "We're scoring some goals obviously. When we were losing some games, we weren't playing that bad, we just couldn't find the net. ... Now pucks have been going for us." The Flyers have been without key injured players such as Cam Atkinson, Sean Couturier, Ryan Ellis and Travis Konecny, among others. |
|||||||
03-24-23 | Islanders -1.5 v. Blue Jackets | 4-5 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 42 m | Show
The New York Islanders will try to continue their playoff push and maintain their solid wild-card position in the Eastern Conference when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night. The Islanders (37-27-8, 82 points) are riding a three-game winning streak into Columbus, a stretch that includes a 7-2 home win over Toronto. In that game, the Islanders broke open a close game with four goals in the third period. The Islanders are comfortably in playoff position, holding onto the top wild-card spot while battling through late-season injuries. Brock Nelson was a full participant in Thursday's practice before the team left for Columbus. The Islanders forward left Tuesday's game against Toronto in the first period after a hit against the boards and did not return. The team picked up the slack in his absence, scoring all seven goals over the final 40 minutes. Islanders head coach Lane Lambert indicated Nelson did not return for precautionary reasons but was relieved to see him on the ice Thursday, a good sign for Friday night. |
|||||||
03-23-23 | Jets v. Ducks +211 | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 12 h 12 m | Show
The Anaheim Ducks will look to play spoiler at home Thursday night when they welcome the Winnipeg Jets to town. The Jets are holding onto the final playoff spot in the Western Conference's wild-card race, while the Ducks (23-38-10, 56 points) were officially cut from postseason contention for the fifth consecutive season on Sunday. It's not unusual for teams to loosen up once they're formally eliminated after spending most of season far out of the postseason picture. But with nothing left to lose, many teams rise up. That, however, hasn't been the case for Anaheim so far. With 11 games remaining, the Ducks have hit yet another skid and are losers of four of their last five. |
|||||||
03-23-23 | Maple Leafs v. Panthers -1.5 | 6-2 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 15 m | Show
The Florida Panthers, locked in a battle to claim the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. Florida (36-28-7, 79 points) is 6-1-1 in its last eight games, but the Panthers are coming off a dud performance on Tuesday, losing 6-3 to the out-of-contention Philadelphia Flyers. Prior to that, the Panthers won their third straight at the time, beating the Detroit Red Wings, 5-2. That win allowed the Panthers to pass the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild-card spot in the East, which they still hold entering Wednesday. "We have always believed in ourselves," said forward Carter Verhaeghe, who leads Florida with a career-high 36 goals. "But the job's not done yet." Verhaeghe's point was proven correct on Tuesday as Florida's backup goalie, Alex Lyon, allowed five even-strength goals against the Flyers. |
|||||||
03-22-23 | Penguins +140 v. Avalanche | Top | 5-2 | Win | 140 | 11 h 45 m | Show |
The Colorado Avalanche are trying to become the third team in eight years to pull off back-to-back Stanley Cup titles. The Pittsburgh Penguins did just that in 2016-17 and Colorado is on a mission to do the same, having won six straight and looking as determined as it did last season, when it won its first Cup since 2001. The Avalanche (41-22-6, 88 points) will go for their seventh straight win when they host the reeling Penguins on Wednesday night in Denver. Pittsburgh won the first game, 2-1 in overtime, at home on Feb. 7. In that game, Colorado defenseman Cale Makar suffered a concussion after taking a shot to the head from Penguins forward Jeff Carter. Pittsburgh (34-26-10, 78 points) has lost four in a row and dropped out of the second wild card in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins have reached the playoffs 16 straight seasons, winning three championships in that span, but are in danger of not extending the streak to 17 straight. |
|||||||
03-20-23 | Flames v. Kings -105 | Top | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 20 h 46 m | Show |
The Calgary Flames are running out of real estate in their bid to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Working overtime hasn't been the answer either. The Flames are scheduled to play the first of back-to-back games in California when they face the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night. Calgary (31-24-15, 77 points) entered Sunday four points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the final wild-card spot from the Western Conference with 12 games remaining, and they're a mere point in front of the Nashville Predators. "We have to get every point we can," Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson said. "We have a big trip coming up where we need to get four points." The Flames are coming off a 6-5 overtime loss to the visiting Dallas Stars on Saturday, dropping Calgary's record to 6-15 in overtime and shootouts this season. |
|||||||
03-20-23 | Panthers v. Red Wings OVER 6.5 | 5-2 | Win | 100 | 16 h 19 m | Show
The Florida Panthers have surged into contention for a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. They'll try to collect two more valuable points when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night. Florida is 5-0-1 over its past six games, including a 4-2 victory Saturday over New Jersey. The Panthers (35-27-7, 77 points) are in third place in the race for the conference's two wild-card berths. Florida trails the New York Islanders by three points in the chase and the Pittsburgh Penguins by one point. Sam Reinhart scored two goals to lead Florida past New Jersey on Saturday. "This is the most fun time to play," he said. "The atmosphere (Saturday), you could sense it right from the start. The fans know what position we're in. We're enjoying the battle. It was nice to get that (win) on home ice." |

03-16-23 | Seattle Kraken v. Sharks +160 | 2-1 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 29 m | Show
The Seattle Kraken will play five of their next six games on the road, starting Thursday night at San Jose. Remarkably, that might bolster Seattle's playoff chances. The Kraken are a middling 16-14-4 at home this season, going 1-2-1 on their just-completed four-game homestand to drop behind Edmonton in the chase for third place in the Pacific Division. Seattle remains atop the wild-card race in the Western Conference, six points ahead of Nashville for the last playoff berth, in large part because of its 21-9-3 road record. "Bottom line, we didn't get job done. At the end of the day that's what matters," Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said after Monday's 5-2 loss to Dallas that extended his team's skid to three games (0-2-1). " ... We've been a group that's been able to turn the page and go back to the next job at hand. This group has to be able to do that again." The Kraken's penalty-killing unit came undone Monday, allowing three goals in four opportunities. Seattle had given up just one man-advantage tally on 32 chances over its previous 13 games, including a franchise-record eight-game streak without allowing one. |

03-16-23 | Lightning v. Devils -124 | 4-3 | Loss | -124 | 6 h 2 m | Show
It has taken the New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning five months of the season to finally face one another, but the two Eastern Conference playoff clubs are in the middle of making up for lost time. On Thursday night for the second time in three days -- both in Newark, New Jersey -- the teams will square off in the middle of their trio of matchups. In the culmination of what will have something of a best-of-seven series playoff feel to it, the final meeting will take place Sunday in Tampa -- three inter-divisional tilts between them in six days. In a surprising development shortly before puck dropped Tuesday, the Lightning's Steven Stamkos didn't participate in the pregame skate and was ruled out. Stamkos, 33, hurt his left leg in the first period Saturday against Chicago and left the game. But he played 17:49 in Sunday's 3-2 home loss to the Winnipeg Jets. In Stamkos' stead, Brandon Hagel stepped up to the top line at left wing beside Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov. Hagel responded with his 24th tally and two assists, and Tampa Bay scored four straight times in a 4-1 victory at New Jersey. |

03-15-23 | Islanders -180 v. Ducks | Top | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 10 h 23 m | Show |
The disappointment surrounding the New York Islanders was palpable after a defeat on Tuesday, but the suddenly struggling club must quickly put that frustration in the past before facing the host Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. New York, which currently holds the Eastern Conference's second wild-card spot, lost 5-2 to the Los Angeles Kings to start a three-game California trip. Making the setback worse for the Islanders was that they held a 1-0 lead after the first period and were in a tie game when a couple of penalties proved costly. Matt Martin was assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty for throwing the helmet of Kings forward Rasmus Kupari after they took coincidental roughing minors. Then, 30 seconds later, Zach Parise was whistled for kneeing. The Kings broke open the game with two power-play goals one minute apart before they extended the lead to 4-1 and cruised to victory. |

03-15-23 | Avalanche v. Maple Leafs -133 | 2-1 | Loss | -133 | 7 h 25 m | Show
The Colorado Avalanche will be without Artturi Lehkonen when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday night. The left winger suffered a broken finger during the second period of an 8-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens Monday in the opener of a four-game trip. Lehkonen had two goals and an assist before he was injured in his first game in Montreal since the Canadiens traded him to the Avalanche on March 21, 2022. "It'll be four, six weeks. Maybe more. It's a huge loss," Avalanche coach Jared Bednar told Altitude Sports Radio on Tuesday. "Good thing is it's his finger. It's his top hand and he can continue to train." Lehkonen has career bests of 20 goals and 29 assists in 62 games this season. The Avalanche are also without forwards Gabriel Landeskog and Darren Helm, defensemen Erik Johnson and Kurtis MacDermid and goaltender Pavel Francouz. |

03-13-23 | Sabres v. Maple Leafs -1.5 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -100 | 17 h 49 m | Show |
The Buffalo Sabres will bid to boost their flickering playoff hopes Monday night when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres trail the New York Islanders by seven points for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference after a 2-1 overtime loss at home to the New York Rangers on Saturday. The Sabres, who have one win in their past seven games (1-5-1), open a three-game road trip on Monday. The Sabres played a solid defense against the Rangers before falling on Artemi Panarin's overtime goal with defenseman Rasmus Dahlin in the penalty box. "This one, it's really tough because we played a good game," Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen said. "How tight we played on defense, how good we were, I think, in both ends. It stinks to lose this one, but it is what it is." It was a good defensive response to a disastrous 10-4 home loss to the Dallas Stars on Thursday. |

03-12-23 | Bruins -1.5 v. Red Wings | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 31 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins made history on Saturday with a hard-fought home victory against Detroit on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins will look for back-to-back victories over the Red Wings when they visit Detroit on Sunday. The Bruins became the fastest team in NHL history to reach 50 wins with their 3-2 victory. Boston got to the half-century mark in 64 games. The previous record of 66 games was shared by the 1995-96 Red Wings and 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning. Garnet Hathaway scored on a rebound at 13:54 of the third period as Boston rallied from a two-goal deficit. "Fifty wins is great. And it's kind of a testament to how hard this team has continued to work throughout the year," Hathaway said. "But I think guys want 51, you know? Guys are excited to play this team tomorrow already." Detroit, which has lost seven of its last eight games, scored twice in the first five minutes on Andrew Copp's shorthanded goal and Alex Chiasson's power play tally. |

03-11-23 | Red Wings v. Bruins -1.5 | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -140 | 11 h 47 m | Show |
The Boston Bruins are coming off the type of game that has been few and far between this season. After allowing three unanswered goals to the Edmonton Oilers in Thursday's 3-2 loss, Boston will look to bounce back when it plays host to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday to begin a weekend home-and-home series between the Original Six teams. Despite leading 2-0 on first-period goals by Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery described his team as "non-competitive" offensively. As a result, a season-high win streak was snapped at 10 games. "Turning down shots, not driving to hard areas, not winning enough battles to create O-zone time," Montgomery said. "We sat back at times. Where we should've been pushing the envelope, we were sealing the envelope." The Bruins (49-9-5) still find themselves in a comfortable position following their first loss since Feb. 11 and only their third at home all season. They still lead the overall NHL standings by nine points over Carolina. Boston entered Thursday with a chance to become the first team to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. |
