Dodgers The Los Angeles Dodgers have recorded back-to-back walk-off victories and go for a three-game sweep of Seattle when they host the Mariners on Wednesday. Dodgers second baseman Howie Kendrick was the hero on Tuesday when his broken-bat single to right field off Fernando Rodney plated the tying and winning runs in a 6-5 victory. Mariners are 1-6 in their last 7 interleague road games and are 2-8 in their last 10 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.Dodgers are 8-2 in their last 10 home games vs. a right-handed starter and are 7-0 in their last 7 home games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.Mariners are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings. Royals Off to the second-best start in franchise history, the Kansas City Royals look to remain the only unbeaten team in the majors when they continue a three-game series at the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. The Royals spoiled the Twins' home opener with a 12-3 drubbing Monday to move to 7-0 - two wins shy of matching their club-record 9-0 start in 2003.Kansas City has exploded out of the gate, averaging better than seven runs per game while surrendering an American League-low 18. Royals are 6-0 in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and are 13-3 in their last 16 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.Twins are 1-7 in Gibsons last 8 starts as an underdog are 1-8 in Gibsons last 9 starts vs. a team with a winning record.Royals are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Minnesota and I look for them to get the win tonight. |

Indians The Cleveland Indians must battle through some early-season adversity and show their depth as they host the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night to open a two-game set.Carrasco was dominant in his season opener versus Houston on Wednesday, striking out 10 and walking one while giving up three hits in 6 1/3 scoreless frames. The 28-year-old from Venezuela is coming off his breakout year when he went 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA and struck out 140 in 134 innings.Carrasco was 2-1 in four appearances (three starts) with a 2.49 ERA versus Chicago last year while limiting the White Sox to a .182 batting average. 04-13-15 | New York Yankees +105 v. Baltimore Orioles | Top | 6-5 | Win | 105 | 6 h 18 m | Show |
Yankees The Orioles, who have gone deep a league-high 11 times, look to avoid their fourth loss in five outings when they open a three-game series against the visiting New York Yankees on Monday.Baltimore was felled by a pair of porous pitching performances as it yielded 23 runs en route to dropping two of three to Toronto.Pineda put his best foot forward in his first start, but some shoddy play in the field by his teammates left him saddled with a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Dominican allowed two runs on six hits in as many innings while striking out six. Yankees are 4-1 in Pinedas last 5 starts vs. American League East.Orioles are 1-5 in their last 6 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game and are 0-4 in their last 4 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150. Take the Yankees as a small underdog. |

04-13-15 | Kansas City Royals -126 v. Minnesota Twins | Top | 12-3 | Win | 100 | 3 h 24 m | Show |
Royals Kansas City looks to continue its best start in 12 years when it travels to Minnesota for the Twins' home opener Monday afternoon. The Royals followed up a three-game sweep at home against the Chicago White Sox with three straight wins at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Duffy faced the Twins six times in 2014, more than any other opponent, and went 2-0 with a 1.63 ERA. Both of those victories came at Target Field, where the 26-year-old let up three earned runs in 13 1/3 innings. Royals are 10-1 in their last 11 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game and are 12-2 in Duffys last 14 starts as a favorite of -110 to -150.Twins are 6-22 in their last 28 games as an underdog of +110 to +150 and are 3-13 in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.Royals are 6-0 in Duffys last 6 starts vs. Twins and I’ll back them again here on the road. |

04-12-15 | Kansas City Royals +108 v. Los Angeles Angels | Top | 9-2 | Win | 108 | 2 h 33 m | Show |
Royals The defending American League champion Kansas City Royals appear to have no weaknesses and go for a three-game sweep of Los Angeles at Angel Stadium on Sunday. Kansas City improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2003 with a 6-4 victory over Los Angeles on Saturday, and while it is no surprise its pitching staff — especially the bullpen — is performing well, a newfound power surge and a tight defense complete the Royals' all-around excellence.When Ventura was last seen at Angel Stadium, he was allowing one run in seven innings of Kansas City's 4-1 victory in 11 innings over Los Angeles in Game 2 of their best-of-5 AL Division Series that the Royals swept. The 23-year-old Dominican yielded one run and four hits in six innings before leaving Tuesday's 10-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Royals are 10-1 in their last 11 games as a road underdog and are 9-1 in their last 10 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.Angels are 1-6 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter. |

04-11-15 | Detroit Tigers -103 v. Cleveland Indians | Top | 9-6 | Win | 100 | 4 h 45 m | Show |
Tigers Detroit’s David Price and Cleveland’s Corey Kluber are arguably two of the best pitchers in baseball, and the Cy Young award winners square off Saturday when the Indians host the Tigers. Kluber will try to cool off a Tigers offense that has scored 30 runs in the season’s first four games, pounding out 18 hits in Friday’s 8-4 victory in the series opener. Tigers are 9-2 in their last 11 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game. Indians are 3-7 in their last 10 vs. American League Central. Indians are 2-5 in Klubers last 7 home starts vs. Tigers. |

Orioles Buehrle, who has 199 career victories, has faced tough luck against the Orioles over the years, going 8-10 despite a 3.57 ERA in 24 games (22 starts), including 3-5, 4.24 at Camden Yards. Norris has had success against the Blue Jays - he went 4-0 with a 1.78 ERA in five starts against them last season. It also lines him up to pitch at home, where he is 10-3 with a 3.58 ERA in 18 starts over the past two seasons. Royals The Kansas City Royals reached the World Series last season despite a less-than-explosive offense, but they appear poised to become a more complete team in 2015. The Royals hope to continue their hot hitting when they aim for a three-game sweep of the visiting Chicago White Sox on Thursday. White Sox are 17-35 in their last 52 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.White Sox are 7-15 in Danks' last 22 starts vs. American League Central.Royals are 8-1 in their last 9 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.Royals are 8-3 in their last 11 games vs. a left-handed starter.White Sox are 3-13 in the last 16 meetings and are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Kansas City. |

04-08-15 | San Diego Padres +120 v. Los Angeles Dodgers | Top | 4-7 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 31 m | Show |
Padres The San Diego Padres are a much different team in 2015 — from leadoff hitter to closer — and have already served notice to the National League West that they expect to challenge for the division title. San Diego visits the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday in the rubber match of their three-game series after Wil Myers delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 7-3 victory and Craig Kimbrel needed 16 pitches to strike out the side in the bottom half.McCarthy, who has never made more than 25 starts in a season, permitted 13 runs in 17 2/3 innings covering five spring training starts while allowing a .306 batting average against. Cashner was sharp in spring training, yielding five runs and striking out 14 in 18 1/3 innings over five appearances.Cashner is 1-2 with a 1.53 ERA in 17 appearances against Los Angeles, including 1-1, 1.32 in six starts covering 41 innings while not allowing more than two runs in any turn. Padres are 4-1 in their last 5 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game and are 8-3 in their last 11 games vs. a right-handed starter.Dodgers are 2-7 in their last 9 games as a home favorite of -110 to -150. |

04-08-15 | Atlanta Braves v. Miami Marlins -125 | Top | 2-0 | Loss | -125 | 5 h 30 m | Show |
Marlins Miller is 0-1 lifetime against Miami in two career starts with a 6.97 ERA.Koehler solidified his spot in Miami’s rotation in his second full major-league season, making 32 starts and allowing two earned runs or less in nine of his final 14 appearances.Koehler recorded a 2.77 ERA in four starts against Atlanta in 2014 but went 0-1 with three no-decisions. Braves are 6-20 in their last 26 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 and are 2-8 in their last 10 after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game.Marlins are 5-1 in Koehlers last 6 starts as a favorite and are 8-3 in Koehlers last 11 starts after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game. |

04-08-15 | New York Mets v. Washington Nationals -128 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 4 h 25 m | Show |
Nationals Washington's vaunted starting rotation got off to a great start Opening Day, but the rest of the team laid an egg. The Nationals try to get into the win column for the first time when they send Jordan Zimmermann to the mound against the New York Mets on Wednesday in the continuation of a three-game series in the nation's capital.After leading the NL in wins (19) in 2013, Zimmermann posted a career-best 2.66 ERA last year, topping the Senior Circuit with 1.307 walks per nine innings. He was spectacular against the Mets, going 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA in four encounters, the last two of which saw Zimmermann toss a total of 13 innings without allowing an earned run. The two-time All-Star won his final eight decisions and the Nationals were victorious in each of his last 11 starts in 2014. Mets are 1-4 in deGroms last 5 starts as a road underdog of +110 to +150.Nationals are 49-16 in Zimmermanns last 65 starts as a favorite.Nationals are 5-0 in Zimmermanns last 5 starts vs. Mets and I’ll back them at this cheap price. |

04-07-15 | Colorado Rockies +122 v. Milwaukee Brewers | Top | 5-2 | Win | 122 | 6 h 7 m | Show |
Rockies The Colorado Rockies managed to lead the National League in runs a year ago despite numerous injuries to key players, and they appear poised to pick up where they left off. The Rockies look to build upon an impressive opener when they aim for a second straight win over the host Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. Matt Garza posted a 6.95 ERA over 6 spring starts. Jordan Lyles has a 1.71 ERA over his last 3 starts against Milwaukee. Rockies are 7-1 in their last 8 when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game and are 11-4 in their last 15 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.Brewers are 1-7 in their last 8 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 and are 6-15 in their last 21 games following a loss. |

04-07-15 | Baltimore Orioles -109 v. Tampa Bay Rays | Top | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 5 h 8 m | Show |
Orioles The Baltimore Orioles led the majors in home runs the last two seasons and showed no reason they can’t do it again after belting three on Opening Day.Chen comes in off the best of his three seasons in the majors, walking only 35 in 185 2/3 innings and posting an ERA under 4.00 for the first time. The 29-year-old native of Taiwan also pitched well in the spring while boasting a 2.45 ERA in 18 1/3 frames with 10 strikeouts and one walk.The Rays had only nine players on their Opening Day roster that started the 2014 season with the team. Orioles are 29-13 in their last 42 when their opponent allows 5 runs or more in their previous game and  are 25-11 in their last 36 games vs. a right-handed starter.Rays are 1-7 in their last 8 games as a home underdog.Orioles are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Tampa Bay. |

04-06-15 | Cleveland Indians -108 v. Houston Astros | Top | 0-2 | Loss | -108 | 7 h 37 m | Show |
Indians With an average of 88.5 wins over the last two seasons, the Cleveland Indians are facing high expectations heading into Monday's season opener against the host Houston Astros. Perhaps the biggest reason for the raised expectations is reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber. Kluber, who turns 29 later this week, is coming off a stellar season in which he went 18-9 with a 2.44 ERA while finishing in the league's top three in ERA, strikeouts, innings, shutouts and complete games.Astros cleanup hitter Chris Carter is the only player on the Houston roster who has homered against Kluber, who will get his first career Opening Day nod. Indians are 8-3 in their last 11 vs. American League West and are 6-2 in their last 8 road games vs. a left-handed starter.Astros are 6-13 in Keuchels last 19 starts during game 1 of a series.Indians are 11-2 in the last 13 meetings and are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Houston. Back Cleveland on the road. |

04-06-15 | Minnesota Twins +153 v. Detroit Tigers | Top | 0-4 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 52 m | Show |
Twins Minnesota’s third last-place finish in four seasons was enough to end the 13-year tenure of manager Ron Gardenhire, but opened the door for Paul Molitor to begin his managerial career. The Twins also reached back into their past to bring back Torii Hunter, who spent the last two seasons with the Tigers. Hughes enjoyed one of the finest seasons in his first year in Minnesota, reaching career highs in innings pitched (209.2) and strikeouts (186) while setting a major-league record with an 11.6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The 28-year-old former first-round pick of the New York Yankees was particularly stingy against Detroit in 2014, winning both outings while posting a 0.64 ERA. Price, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-team blockbuster deal at the trade deadline, went 4-4 despite a 3.59 ERA in 11 starts with Detroit. Twins are 4-1 in Hughes' last 5 starts as an underdog and are 10-4 in Hughes' last 14 starts as a road underdog. Tigers are 3-8 in their last 11 games as a home favorite of -151 to -200. Take the Twins at a nice plus price. |

04-05-15 | St. Louis Cardinals +110 v. Chicago Cubs | Top | 3-0 | Win | 110 | 5 h 22 m | Show |
Cardinals A new season arrives for the revamped Chicago Cubs on Sunday night, but whether it's the proverbial "next year" Cubs fans have been waiting for is yet to be seen. The hopeful Cubs start the 2015 campaign by hosting a St. Louis Cardinals team that has been the class of the National League Central in recent years. St. Louis is aiming for its fifth straight trip to the NL Championship Series and its third consecutive division crown. Wainwright is coming off the second 20-win season of his career in which he matched his career-high with five complete games and tossed a career-best three shutouts. He made only three starts in the spring because of an abdominal strain but was effective, allowing five earned runs in 14 1/3 innings. The 33-year-old has had mixed results against the Cubs over the years, going 11-7 with a 4.09 ERA, but tossed 14 scoreless innings over the past two meetings, winning both. Chicago's new ace Jon Lester was limited to 8 1/3 innings over three starts in spring training after missing a start because of arm fatigue, so his pitch count will be limited. Cardinals are 10-3 in their last 13 games vs. a left-handed starter. Cardinals are 7-1 in Wainwrights last 8 starts vs. Cubs and I like them tonight. |

10-29-14 | San Francisco Giants v. Kansas City Royals -133 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -133 | 10 h 16 m | Show |
Royals  Kansas City avoided elimination with a convincing victory and either the Royals or visiting San Francisco Giants will be crowned champions when Game 7 of the World Series is held on Wednesday. San Francisco was in position to win the series in Game 6, but the Royals racked up 15 hits and rolled to a 10-0 victory. The Giants have struggled to get strong outings from their starters when Bumgarner doesn’t pitch and Game 6 starter Jake Peavy lasted just 1 1/3 innings while being charged with five runs. Kansas City has won two of its three home games in the series as the lineup has a different feel to it when it includes designated hitter Billy Butler. Hudson took the loss in Game 3 when he gave up three runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings in his first career World Series start.  Hudson has found victories hard to come by in the postseason as he is 1-4 with a 3.53 ERA in 13 career appearances (12 starts). Guthrie defeated Hudson in Game 3 when he allowed two runs and four hits in five innings. He said he is ready to the task of pitching in a Game 7 as Kansas City looks for its first title since 1985.Just like I predicted the Royals win the series here in game 7. |

10-28-14 | San Francisco Giants v. Kansas City Royals -132 | Top | 0-10 | Win | 100 | 22 h 4 m | Show |
Royals The Kansas City Royals hope returning home will revitalize their title chances, while the San Francisco Giants aim to clinch their third crown in five seasons when the teams clash in Game 6 on Tuesday. Peavy was charged with four runs in five-plus innings while losing Game 2 to drop to 1-4 with a 7.05 ERA in eight career postseason starts. Ventura received a no-decision in Game 2 when he gave up two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old rookie has been Kansas City’s best starter in the postseason with a fastball that often tops 100 miles per hour. Royals DH Billy Butler (3-for-7) will be back in the lineup with the contest in the American League ballpark. The Royals get the Victory as this series goes to 7 games. |

10-24-14 | Kansas City Royals +117 v. San Francisco Giants | Top | 3-2 | Win | 117 | 8 h 8 m | Show |
Royals Tim Hudson pitches in a World Series game for the first time in his 16-year-career when the San Francisco Giants host the Kansas City Royals in Game 3 on Friday. The 39-year-old Hudson will attempt to pitch the Giants into the series lead after the teams split two games in Kansas City. Guthrie is making his second start of the postseason, having received a no-decision against Baltimore on Oct. 14 when he gave up one run and three hits over five innings. He spent part of 2012 in the National League with the Colorado Rockies and has made two career starts at AT&T Park, going 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA in 11 1/3 innings. He has also pitcher solid over the last month. I’ll back KC in game 3. |
|||||||
10-22-14 | San Francisco Giants v. Kansas City Royals -113 | Top | 2-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 58 m | Show |
Royals With game 1 going to the Giants in a rout the Royals will be at the top of their game tonight to avoid going down 2-0. San Francisco starter Jake Peavy has seen a lot of the Royals while pitching in the American League and possesses a 5-7 record and 4.97 ERA in 14 starts. Peavy is making his second World Series start as he made one for Boston last season and gave up two runs in four innings. He hasn’t made it through six innings in either start this postseason. Ventura has been placed in the No. 2 role by manager Ned Yost, who has no concern over how the 23-year-old rookie will handle the spotlight. Ventura last pitched Oct. 11 when he worked 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against Baltimore. Take the Royals in game 2. |
|||||||
09-18-14 | Milwaukee Brewers v. St. Louis Cardinals -137 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 27 m | Show |
#956 8:15pm Cardinals – 137 The Milwaukee Brewers have been tormented over the years by Adam Wainwright and now must face another nemesis in the finale of their three-game series against the host St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. After falling victim to a complete game by Wainwright for the second time in a span of 11 days, the Brewers must find a way to solve Shelby Miller, who carries a 5-0 record against them into Thursday's start. Miller has won back-to-back starts for the first time since he ripped off six victories during a seven-start stretch from mid-April to mid-May. He stretched his unbeaten string to six outings by holding Colorado to one run over six innings in his last turn - the only run he has permitted in his last 20 frames. Miller beat Milwaukee twice early in the season and owns a 2.30 ERA and .219 batting average against in seven starts versus the Brewers. Lay the price with the Cards. |
|||||||
09-17-14 | Washington Nationals v. Atlanta Braves -158 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 7 m | Show |
#906 7:10pm Braves – 158 The Washington Nationals have 12 games to prepare for the National League playoffs, while the Atlanta Braves’ hopes of joining the newly minted NL East champions in the postseason are fading quickly. The Nationals wrap up a three-game series at Atlanta on Wednesday after winning the division title for the second time in three years with Tuesday’s 3-0 victory, Wood has surrendered three earned runs in 14 innings across two September starts with 14 strikeouts, but only has a pair of no-decisions to show for it. The 23-year-old has been splendid in his past nine outings, posting a 1.88 ERA with 62 strikeouts and 18 walks in 62 1/3 innings. Wood, who has a 2.63 ERA in 22 starts this season, is 2-1 in three starts against Washington in 2014 with a 1.86 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings. Look for Washington to rest some key starters. Lay it with Atlanta. |
|||||||
09-10-14 | Arizona Diamondbacks +137 v. San Francisco Giants | Top | 0-5 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 6 m | Show |
#963 10:15pm Diamondbacks + 134 The San Francisco Giants look to continue their charge toward the top of the National League West when they continue their three-game series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. San Francisco climbed within 2 1/2 games of the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers with a 5-1 triumph in Tuesday's opener. Collmenter has been superb over his last three starts, going 2-0 while allowing a total of three runs - two earned - and 11 hits in 21 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old registered both of the victories against San Diego and is one win away from setting a new career high. Collmenter improved to 5-1 lifetime against San Francisco on June 20, when he limited the Giants to one run despite yielding four hits and four walks in five frames. Vogelsong was battered for a career-high eight runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings in a loss at Colorado last Wednesday. The 37-year-old, who also served up a career-worst four homers in that contest, has won only one of his last five outings. Back Arizona here on the road as a underdog. |
|||||||
09-10-14 | Miami Marlins +110 v. Milwaukee Brewers | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 10 m | Show |
#959 8:10pm Marlins + 110 Casey McGehee may be the best free-agent signing in the National League this season and provided another reason with a clutch two-run homer for the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. McGehee, who played in Japan in 2013, looks to continue his standout campaign when the Marlins visit the free-falling Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday in the third contest of a four-game series. Milwaukee, which has lost 13 of its last 14, is 1½ games out of the NL’s second wild-card spot and Miami stands 3½ back. Cosart lost his first start after being acquired by the Marlins and has been outstanding since, compiling a 4-0 record with a 1.27 ERA in five starts. The 24-year-old Texas native gave up three runs over 7 2/3 innings to beat Atlanta 11-3 on Friday. Cosart is 7-3 with a 3.51 ERA in 13 road starts and has allowed eight homers in 157 innings this season – one in six games with Miami.Peralta looks to add to his career high in wins, but has lost three straight starts while yielding 17 runs in 14 innings. The Dominican Republic native permitted one run and six hits over six frames May 24 against the Marlins before suffering a 2-1 loss. Peralta is 1-1 overall in four career starts against Miami and has surrendered 22 homers this season, among the NL leaders. Take Miami as a road dog. |
|||||||
09-03-14 | Toronto Blue Jays v. Tampa Bay Rays -111 | Top | 7-4 | Loss | -111 | 7 h 53 m | Show |
#922 7:10pm Rays – 111 Stroman allowed two runs (one earned) over 7 2/3 innings to beat Boston last Wednesday after losing his previous three decisions, including one against the Rays. The Duke product gave up six runs (five earned) and 10 hits over five frames in that outing on Aug. 22. Stroman, who has recorded 85 strikeouts in 99 2/3 innings, is 2-3 with a 6.33 ERA on the road as opposed to 6-2 and 2.97 marks at home. Archer permitted a season-high eight runs (seven earned) over four innings against Boston in his last outing after going 4-1 in his previous 10 starts. The North Carolina native makes his fifth start against Toronto this season after going 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA in the first four. Reyes is 6-for-14 against Archer, who has struck out 150 in 161 1/3 frames and surrendered only seven homers this season. Back the Rays here at home. |

09-03-14 | Detroit Tigers +111 v. Cleveland Indians | Top | 0-7 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 47 m | Show |
#917 7:05pm Tigers + 111 Justin Verlander needs to go on a final-month tear to make his numbers more pleasing to view as the Detroit Tigers visit the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday. Cleveland was racking up the victories – 13 of 18 contests – before losing the first two games of this four-game series. The losses have dropped the Indians five games behind the Tigers for the American League’s second wild card. Detroit, which sits a half-game behind the Royals, is getting a nice boost from Martinez, who is 13-for-28 with five homers and 13 RBIs in seven games at Cleveland this season. Verlander has won consecutive starts to get his record back over .500. He beat the Chicago White Sox in his last turn when he gave up one run and nine hits in seven innings. Salazar is 0-1 with a 4.42 ERA in three career starts against Detroit and the loss occurred on April 17 when he gave up five runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings. The Tigers get the road win. |

09-02-14 | Milwaukee Brewers -103 v. Chicago Cubs | Top | 1-7 | Loss | -103 | 6 h 49 m | Show |
#955 8:05pm Brewers – 103 Milwaukee trails St. Louis by one game while holding down the second wild-card spot by 1 1/2 over Atlanta. The Cubs continue to play better baseball led by rookies such as Jorge Soler, who doubled twice in his Wrigley Field debut Monday to become the third player in the last 100 years to have at least one extra-base hit in his first five games. Chicago's Jake Arrieta makes his 100th career appearance as he opposes Yovani Gallardo, who is 9-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 18 starts against the Cubs. Gallardo permitted three hits and three walks in six scoreless innings while not recording a strikeout for the first time in his career, and fell victim to a blown save in Milwaukee's 3-2 loss in San Diego on Wednesday. The 28-year-old Mexican defeated Arrieta and Chicago 3-1 on Aug. 11, when he allowed one run and struck out six over seven frames in his only start against the Cubs in 2014. The Brewers are the play. |

09-02-14 | Boston Red Sox v. New York Yankees -146 | Top | 9-4 | Loss | -146 | 5 h 49 m | Show |
#968 7:05pm Yankees – 146 The New York Yankees are trying to hang around in the American League wild-card chase, and a lot will be determined after their upcoming nine-game homestand. The Yankees try to rebound from losing four of their last six when they host the rival Boston Red Sox on Tuesday for the first of three contests. Greene continues to make a strong case to be part of the rotation in 2015, yielding three or fewer runs in eight of his first nine career starts. The 25-year-old Florida native permitted two runs in seven innings with eight strikeouts to beat Detroit in his last outing. We’ll look for the Yankees to get the win when they open their home-stand tonight. |
|||||||
08-31-14 | Oakland A's v. Los Angeles Angels -119 | Top | 1-8 | Win | 100 | 4 h 49 m | Show |
#978 3:30pm Angels – 119 The Los Angeles Angels are putting on a pitching clinic while opening up a big gap in the American League West. The Angels will attempt to polish off a four-game sweep and increase their division lead to five games when they host the Oakland Athletics in the finale on Sunday. The Athletics have had trouble hitting all month and are really struggling in the series after getting shut out in each of the last two games. Kazmir was pushed back a day and will be pitching on six days rest after getting lit up by Los Angeles last Sunday. The 30-year-old lasted just three-plus innings and allowed seven runs on 10 hits and two walks while notching only one strikeout. Kazmir has allowed at least three earned runs in four of his last five starts. Shoemaker is trending in the opposite direction and is 4-0 with a 0.77 ERA in his last four games. The undrafted rookie has been particularly impressive in the last two turns, yielding a total of three hits over 14 2/3 innings while striking out 15 and walking three. Shoemaker struck out the only batter he faced in a relief appearance against Oakland on June 11 and will be making his first start against the division rivals. The Angels get the sweep. |

08-31-14 | Boston Red Sox v. Tampa Bay Rays -157 | Top | 3-0 | Loss | -157 | 2 h 46 m | Show |
#970 1:40pm Rays – 157 Alex Cobb has taken over the role of ace for the Tampa Bay Rays since the trade of former American League Cy Young Award winner David Price. Cobb goes for his career-high eighth straight victory and attempts to extend his unbeaten streak to 12 games when the Rays host the Boston Red Sox on Sunday in the third contest of their four-game series. Cobb has given up only six runs over his last seven starts and hopes to give Tampa Bay another gem after Jake Odorizzi’s seven one-hit innings Saturday. Cobb tries to add to his case for being selected American League Pitcher of the Month after going 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in five August starts. Buchholz is winless in seven consecutive outings for the Red Sox. Lay the price with Tampa Bay. |
|||||||
08-29-14 | Cleveland Indians v. Kansas City Royals -144 | Top | 6-1 | Loss | -144 | 6 h 20 m | Show |
#974 8:10pm Royals – 144 The Cleveland Indians are on a tear and they attempt to keep it going when they visit the American League Central-leading Kansas City Royals in Friday’s opener of the three-game series. Cleveland has won 11 of its last 16 and is suddenly four games behind Detroit and Seattle in the wild-card race and 5 1/2 games behind the Royals. Kansas City leads second-place Detroit by 1 1/2 games after falling 11-5 in 10 innings to Minnesota on Thursday. Salazar received a no-decision against Houston on Saturday when he gave up two runs (one earned) and three hits in six innings. He picked up the victory in Kansas City on July 27 when he gave up three runs and seven hits in seven innings to improve his career mark against the Royals to 1-2 with a 5.71 ERA. Salazar is 2-4 with a 5.60 ERA in seven road starts. Vargas lost to Texas in his last outing when he gave up three runs (two earned) and 11 hits in six innings. The rough start followed two excellent ones as Vargas allowed one run and seven hits in 16 innings while beating Oakland and Minnesota. Vargas is 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA in two starts against Cleveland. Back the Royals.  |
|||||||
08-27-14 | Washington Nationals -153 v. Philadelphia Phillies | Top | 4-8 | Loss | -153 | 6 h 4 m | Show |
#953 7:05pm Nationals – 153 The Washington Nationals look to avoid their first three-game losing streak in two months when they visit the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday for the finale of their three-game series. Fister had his streak of consecutive starts without allowing an earned run snapped at three Friday, when he yielded four on seven hits and a walk in a loss to San Francisco. The 30-year-old surrendered a total of two earned runs over his previous five outings. Fister suffered his first loss in three career starts against Philadelphia on Aug. 1 despite giving up only two runs in seven frames. Kendrick ended his four-start winless streak Friday, even though he yielded four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings against St. Louis. The veteran, who celebrated his 30th birthday Tuesday, has allowed four or more runs in seven of his last nine starts. Kendrick fell to 5-10 lifetime against Washington on July 13, when he surrendered five runs in 5 2/3 frames. I’ll lay the price with Washington. |
|||||||
08-27-14 | New York Yankees +165 v. Detroit Tigers | Top | 8-4 | Win | 165 | 6 h 34 m | Show |
#969 7:05pm Yankees + 165 David Price made a much-ballyhood change of address from Tampa Bay to Detroit at the trade deadline, but he will be facing a familiar foe when the Tigers host the New York Yankees on Wednesday night in the second of a three-game set. Price will oppose the Yankees for the fifth time this season, having posted a 1-1 record against them - including a no-decision in his Detroit debut on Aug. 5. Greene turned in the best performance of his brief-major league career against the Tigers on Aug. 7, earning the victory with a season-high eight scoreless innings of five-hit ball. He followed that up with a pair of no-decisions, striking out 10 and permitting two runs over six innings at Tampa Bay and allowing three runs and nine hits over five innings versus the Chicago White Sox last time out. He is 2-0 with a 2.59 ERA away from home. Price suffered a gut-wrenching 1-0 defeat against his former team on Thursday, allowing a first-inning RBI triple and nothing more before setting down the final 23 batters of a one-hit, nine-strikeout masterpiece. He is 1-1 with in four outings with the Tigers, the lone win coming when he gave up one run in eight innings to beat Seattle on Aug. 16. Yankees catcher Brian McCann has tormented Price this season, going 5-for-12 with three home runs. I’ll take the Yankees at a nice plus price. |
|||||||
08-26-14 | Los Angeles Dodgers -108 v. Arizona Diamondbacks | Top | 9-5 | Win | 100 | 7 h 21 m | Show |
#909 9:40pm Dodgers – 108 If the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers continue to hold off the San Francisco Giants and defend their National League West crown, Roberto Hernandez will likely be one of the big contributors. The veteran right-hander, acquired Aug. 7 when Josh Beckett could no longer pitch through a left hip injury, attempts to pay more dividends Tuesday when Los Angeles kicks off a five-game road trip with the first of two against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Hernandez - 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA in three starts with the Dodgers - has delivered. Hernandez allowed four runs (three earned) and eight hits in five innings of a 4-1 loss to the Padres on Wednesday after yielding three runs combined in his first two starts with Los Angeles. Cahill faced the Dodgers four times in 2014 - two relief appearances totaling four hitless innings and a pair of starts in which he yielded 12 runs (11 earned) over eight innings combined, including a 7-5 loss on March 22 in Australia. I like the Dodgers in this spot. |
|||||||
08-25-14 | Boston Red Sox v. Toronto Blue Jays -112 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -112 | 5 h 12 m | Show |
#962 7:05pm Toronto – 112 The Boston Red Sox have been just the thing that opposing teams have needed when battling for postseason spots. The Toronto Blue Jays will try to become the latest team to take advantage of the struggling Red Sox when they host Boston in the opener of a three-game series on Monday. Boston has dropped eight in a row overall and only managed more than three runs once in that span - an 8-6 loss to Seattle on Sunday. Buchholz is winless in six straight starts and was knocked around for six runs on seven hits in six innings against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. That marked the fifth time in seven starts since the All-Star break that the Texas native was reached for at least four earned runs. Two of those poor starts came against the Blue Jays last month, including a July 28 outing in which Buchholz was lit up for seven runs in five innings. Happ was strong against Boston on July 22, scattering seven hits over six scoreless innings to earn a win. Another cheap price and we’ll lay it with Toronto. |
|||||||
08-25-14 | Tampa Bay Rays v. Baltimore Orioles -118 | Top | 1-9 | Win | 100 | 5 h 11 m | Show |
#960 7:05pm Baltimore – 118 The Baltimore Orioles look to get their offense back in gear after a rough road trip when they start an 11-game homestand with the first of four contests against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Odorizzi lost his last start against Detroit while allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings. The Illinois native is 0-1 in three starts against the Orioles this season while giving up six runs in 15 1/3 frames. Adam Jones is 6-for-11 with a homer versus Odorizzi. In Odorizzi's last seven starts when the Rays are dogs, Tampa is a paltry 1-6. Tillman has been outstanding in August with a 3-0 record and a 1.57 ERA in four starts while boasting 25 strikeouts and two walks over 28 2/3 innings. The California native permitted one run in eight innings to beat the Chicago White Sox in his last outing and has one loss in his last 12 starts. Take the O’s at a cheap price. |
|||||||
08-23-14 | Kansas City Royals -108 v. Texas Rangers | Top | 6-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 32 m | Show |
#977 8:05pm Royals – 108 The Kansas City Royals continue to draw skepticism in their drive toward a postseason berth due to an offense that struggles to hit the ball out of the yard. The Royals will try to follow up a two-homer outing with more long balls when they visit the Texas Rangers again on Saturday. Texas has dropped five of its last six home games and is allowing opponents an average of 6.4 runs in those five setbacks. Guthrie has been inconsistent since the start of July but earned a win on Sunday by holding Minnesota to four runs on five hits in seven innings. The veteran yielded at least four earned runs in five of his last eight outings but is 4-4 in that span thanks to some help from his offense. Guthrie picked up the win in his last three road starts and is 4-4 with a 3.82 ERA in 15 career games - 12 starts - against Texas. We’ll back KC here on the road.  |
|||||||
08-23-14 | San Francisco Giants v. Washington Nationals -160 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 6 h 2 m | Show |
#952 4:05pm Nationals – 160 The Washington Nationals had their 10-game winning streak halted in the series opener and attempt to start a new stretch of victories when they host the San Francisco Giants on Saturday afternoon. Lincecum beat Philadelphia in his last outing to snap a five-start winless stretch. He allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings against the Phillies, marking the fourth time in five starts in which he has pitched five or fewer innings. Lincecum is 1-3 with a 5.76 ERA in five career starts at Nationals Park. Zimmermann received a no-decision against Arizona in his last turn when he gave up three runs and four hits over seven innings. He has allowed just eight runs over his last five turns, going 2-0 with three no-decisions. Zimmermann is 4-2 with a 2.89 ERA in seven career starts against San Francisco. The price is high but I’m willing to lay it with Washington.  |

08-22-14 | Los Angeles Angels +147 v. Oakland A's | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -100 | 7 h 28 m | Show |
#927 10:05pm Angels + 147 The Los Angeles Angels may still be reeling from the loss of their ace but enter the weekend with the best record in baseball. The previous owners of that title, the Oakland Athletics, trail the Angels by two games in the American League West and will look to make up some of that ground when they host Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game series on Friday. The Athletics are enduing their first real rough patch of the season with losses in eight of the last 10 games due in part to an offense that is struggling to score. Santiago allowed a total of one earned run in his last two starts but did not factor in the decision in either turn. The 26-year-old struggles to last deep into games and has only gone more than six innings once in 2014 - a seven-inning stint against Oakland on Apr. 14 in which he allowed one run. Santiago faced the Athletics again on June 10 but again did not factor in the decision despite scattering three hits and striking out eight in six scoreless frames.Gray went 5-0 in July but is 0-4 in four starts this month and has had a rough time in two of his last three outings. The Vanderbilt product was knocked around for four runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings at Atlanta on Saturday - the second time in three starts that he failed to complete six frames. Gray picked up a win over Los Angeles on June 1, yielding three runs on seven hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings. I am backing the Angels as a nice dog here. |
|||||||
08-22-14 | Tampa Bay Rays +120 v. Toronto Blue Jays | Top | 8-0 | Win | 120 | 4 h 27 m | Show |
#919 7:05 Rays + 120 Two teams hoping to stay alive in the race for an American League wild-card spot meet when the Tampa Bay Rays visit the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday to begin a three-game series. The Rays snapped a four-game losing streak with Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Detroit and Toronto is 2-6 in its last eight. Smyly is 1-1 in three starts since being acquired from Detroit, allowing five runs and 14 hits over 20 innings with 19 strikeouts and six walks. The University of Arkansas product has permitted two or fewer runs in four of his last six outings overall. Smyly, who boasts 108 strikeouts and 37 walks in 125 1/3 innings, did not give up a run in three career relief appearances against Toronto. Stroman looks to rebound from his worst major-league appearance when he yielded five runs without getting out of the first inning last Friday. The 23-year-old rookie has allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of 14 starts, though, and completed at least six innings in 10 starts. Stroman faces Tampa Bay for the first time. I like the Rays. |
|||||||
08-22-14 | San Francisco Giants v. Washington Nationals -148 | Top | 10-3 | Loss | -148 | 4 h 26 m | Show |
#904 7:05pm Nationals – 148 The Washington Nationals vie for a franchise-high 11th consecutive victory when they host the San Francisco Giants in the opener of their three-game series. Washington posted its fifth walk-off win in six contests Thursday as Denard Span scored on an error in the ninth inning for a 1-0 victory over Arizona. Hudson's winless streak reached five starts Saturday as he escaped with a no-decision against Philadelphia after surrendering five runs on eight hits and three walks in four innings. The 39-year-old has registered just one victory in his last 11 outings. Fister is coming off his third consecutive start in which he did not allow an earned run, but he was forced to settle for a no-decision against Pittsburgh on Sunday after yielding two unearned runs and five hits over seven innings. The 30-year-old has held opponents to three runs or fewer in each of his last 10 outings, going 7-1 in that span. Fister won his first career meeting with the Giants on June 10, scattering eight hits over seven scoreless frames at San Francisco. Take the Nats to keep rolling. |
|||||||
08-16-14 | Kansas City Royals -103 v. Minnesota Twins | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -103 | 6 h 8 m | Show |
#925 7:05pm Royals – 103 Josh Willingham, acquired in a trade with the Twins last week, had a three-run double Friday as Kansas City improved to 19-4 in its last 23 in its bid to reach the postseason for the first time since 1985. Ventura battled control issues but also turned in his third straight quality start Monday, permitting two runs in six innings against Oakland in a no-decision. The 23-year-old rookie is 4-1 over his last eight appearances, including a win over Minnesota on July 31 in which he allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings. Ventura is 5-2 with a 3.57 ERA in nine starts away from home. Hughes bounced from a three-start losing streak by winning each of his last two outings, going seven innings and yielding one runs on four hits to beat Oakland last time out. He struck out a season high-tying nine in six innings of one-run ball in his previous turn against San Diego. Although Hughes is 6-3 in 11 appearances (10 starts) versus the Royals, he has surrendered 10 homers in 54 1/3 innings. I’ll back the hottest team in Baseball once again today. |
|||||||
08-16-14 | Arizona Diamondbacks v. Miami Marlins -141 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 6 h 7 m | Show |
#908 7:05pm Marlins – 141 Miami looks to close the gap behind Henderson Alvarez as the talented youngster returns from a stint on the disabled list due to shoulder inflammation. Miley rebounded from a disastrous performance to limit Colorado to three runs over six innings Sunday but was forced to settle for a no-decision. The 27-year-old was lit up for 10 runs on nine hits and three walks over 4 2/3 frames in a loss to Kansas City on Aug. 5. Alvarez has not pitched since July 29, when he scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings in a triumph over Washington. The 24-year-old has been sensational since mid-May, allowing fewer than three runs in 12 of his last 13 starts. Alvarez, who will be facing Arizona for the first time, is 5-2 with a 1.48 ERA in 11 home outings this season. I’ll lay the price with Miami. |
|||||||
08-16-14 | Seattle Mariners -110 v. Detroit Tigers | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -110 | 6 h 52 m | Show |
#919 7:05pm Mariners – 110 The Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners are two teams heading in opposite directions of late. The Mariners will look to take advantage of the stumbling Tigers when they visit Detroit for the second of a three-game series on Saturday. Seattle has won five in a row and took the series opener 7-2 on Friday to leapfrog over the Tigers and into the second wild card spot in the American League. Hernandez is enjoying a historic run with 16 straight starts of seven innings or more and two earned runs or fewer as he makes his bid toward another Cy Young Award. The Venezuelan struck out eight and scattered three hits over seven frames against the Blue Jays on Monday without issuing a walk. Hernandez last faced Detroit on April 17, 2013, and allowed one run on five hits in eight innings while striking out 12. Price is being asked to carry an even bigger load with Anibal Sanchez on the disabled list and Justin Verlander dealing with shoulder issues. The trade deadline prize has yet to notch a win since joining the Tigers, allowing a total of seven runs and 13 hits in 14 2/3 innings spread across a pair of no decisions. I’ll stick with the hot team in Seattle. |
|||||||
08-15-14 | Cincinnati Reds -160 v. Colorado Rockies | Top | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 8 h 5 m | Show |
#959 8:40pm Reds – 160 The Cincinnati Reds turn to Cy Young Award candidate Johnny Cueto in an attempt to remain relevant in the National League playoff race when they visit the Colorado Rockies on Friday in the second contest of their four-game series. Cueto, the reigning NL Player of the Week, tries for his fifth consecutive victory (1.45 ERA in last four starts) and is unbeaten in seven turns (6-0, 2.23 ERA). Ineffective pitching (major league-high 4.98 ERA), and injuries are the biggest reasons why Colorado (47-74) is challenging for the worst season in franchise history. Morales, who is 4-6 with 5.15 ERA in 17 starts this season, received a no-decision after allowing three runs (two earned) and five hits in six innings of a 5-3 victory in Arizona on Sunday. The 28-year-old Venezuelan, who makes his first start against Cincinnati, is 5-0 with a 3.08 ERA versus the NL West in 2014 and 0-6, 6.46 against everyone else. Take the Reds on the road. |
|||||||
08-15-14 | Kansas City Royals -134 v. Minnesota Twins | Top | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 47 m | Show |
#975 8:10pm Royals – 134 The Royals haven't had much difficulty with other teams of late as they won three of four against major league-best Oakland this week to move 12 games above .500 for the first time since July 20, 2003. The torrid stretch has helped Kansas City keep its half-game lead over Detroit in the American League Central as the franchise attempts to seize its first postseason berth since 1985. While the Royals are atop the division, Minnesota can be found in the cellar despite having won three of its last four contests. Duffy recorded his second straight win despite allowing four runs in 6 2/3 innings of a 7-4 victory over San Francisco on Sunday. The 25-year-old issued six free passes to elevate his pitch count in his last meeting with the Twins on July 30 but walked away with a no-decision. Duffy has allowed one run on four hits over 5 2/3 frames in each of his last two meetings with Minnesota.Sidelined with a strained right elbow since July 6, Nolasco is expected to get the nod after working out the kinks during a two-start rehabilitation assignment with Single-A Cedar Rapids. Nolasco owns a 2-1 career mark versus the Royals - although his 24 hits allowed over 19 2/3 innings leaves a bit to be desired. The Royals keep it rolling. |
|||||||
08-15-14 | Baltimore Orioles v. Cleveland Indians -152 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 7 h 31 m | Show |
#968 7:05pm Indians – 152 A pair of eighth-inning home runs lifted Baltimore in the series finale with New York and increased the club's major league-leading total to 152. The Orioles are 58-25 when going deep at least once, but will be tested Friday against Indians right-hander Corey Kluber, who has not allowed a home run during a five-start stretch in which he is 4-0 with a 0.68 ERA. The Indians are 17-4 in Kluber's last 21 home starts and are 6-0 in his last six starts against the American League East. He struck out nine in seven scoreless innings at Baltimore on May 24 to help Cleveland to a 9-0 rout. The Orioles counter with left hander Wei-Yin Chen (12-4, 3.90 ERA), but the Indians have crushed lefties at home, going 21-5 in their last 26 in this scenario. Chen has been reached for 11 runs in 13 frames over two career starts versus the Indians. Cleveland is the play here at home. |
|||||||
08-13-14 | Toronto Blue Jays v. Seattle Mariners -160 | Top | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 10 h 1 m | Show |
#970 10:10pm Mariners – 160 The Seattle Mariners have the misfortune of playing in a division with the two best teams in baseball so they know there is only path to reach the postseason. The surging Mariners have won three straight and seven of eight to pull into a tie with Detroit for the second wild card in the American League as they prepare to host the finale of a three-game series versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Completing a sweep would put Seattle 10 games over .500 for the first time this season. Dickey did not factor in the decision for the first time in 11 starts last time out, permitting two runs on five hits over six innings against Detroit. The 39-year-old knuckleballer is struggling to find consistency, but he has pitched at least six innings in 11 consecutive starts. Dickey, two wins shy of 200 for his career, is 3-8 in 12 road starts. Unlike Dickey, Iwakuma has been a model of consistency with seven consecutive starts of at least seven innings while not permitting more than seven hits. He limited the Chicago White Sox to one run and five hits over seven innings on Friday to improve to 5-2 with a 2.04 ERA in his last eight turns. Iwakuma split a pair of decisions against the Blue Jays in 2013, yielding three runs and nine hits in 14 1/3 innings. Lay it with Seattle. |
|||||||
08-13-14 | St. Louis Cardinals v. Miami Marlins -121 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -121 | 7 h 0 m | Show |
#956 7:10pm Marlins – 121 The Miami Marlins have surged back into the National League wild-card race as they try to finish a three-game sweep of the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The Marlins own a 4-1 lead in the season series and have moved within 3 1/2 games of the Cardinals for the second wild card after Tuesday's 3-0 win. Masterson has split his first two starts with St. Louis, but he hasn't pitched very well in either. He gave up five runs over six innings to win his Cardinals debut but was tagged for five runs in just two frames in a loss at Baltimore on Friday. Eovaldi is coming off his best outing of the year in Friday's win at Cincinnati. He struck out six over eight scoreless innings to snap a seven-start winless streak and pick up his first victory since June 23. Eovaldi is 0-1 with a 3.57 ERA in three starts against the Cardinals, with the loss coming July 4 in St. Louis as he allowed three runs over six frames. I’ll lay the small price with Miami. |
|||||||
08-12-14 | Washington Nationals -145 v. New York Mets | Top | 7-1 | Win | 100 | 7 h 15 m | Show |
#903 7:10pm Nationals – 145 Although the Washington Nationals haven’t enjoyed an overwhelming amount of success against the National League East as a whole, they have done a number on the New York Mets. The Nationals, who hold a four-game lead in the East entering the first of three games in New York on Tuesday, are a combined 18-19 versus division rivals Atlanta, Miami and Philadelphia. However, Washington has won each of its three series against the Mets in 2014 while prevailing in seven of the nine meetings overall. Fister bounced back from a hard-luck loss to the Phillies on Aug. 1 by holding the Mets to one unearned run on six singles while striking out seven over 7 1/3 innings in Wednesday’s 7-1 victory. The former seventh-round pick of the Seattle Mariners has been red-hot over his last eight outings, going 6-1 with a 1.96 ERA. Fister defeated New York in his only other career start as a member of the Detroit Tigers last season, yielding a run on eight hits in 6 1/3 frames. With Jacob deGrom getting placed on the disabled list due to rotator cuff tendinitis, the Mets will recall Montero from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill in. The 23-year-old Dominican did not factor into the decision in his last turn for New York on May 30, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks over 3 2/3 innings. Montero, who is 6-3 with a 3.28 ERA in 15 turns with the Las Vegas 51s, will make his fifth career big-league start and face the Nationals for the first time. Let’s back Washington as my play of the day. |

08-11-14 | Milwaukee Brewers -104 v. Chicago Cubs | Top | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 8 h 54 m | Show |
#957 8:05pm Brewers – 104 The Milwaukee Brewers survived a big test from the top two teams in the National League West and hope to take advantage of a lesser-regarded opponent. The Brewers open up a seven-game trip at the last-place Chicago Cubs on Monday. Milwaukee took two of three each from the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers last week. Gallardo was knocked out of a start after only four innings on Wednesday, allowing four runs on nine hits and four walks in a loss against San Francisco. The Mexico native had yielded a total of eight hits in 14 2/3 scoreless innings over his previous two outings. Gallardo is facing Chicago for the first time this season and is 8-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 17 career starts against the division rivals.Arrieta is hoping to bounce back from one of the worst performances of his career after getting knocked around for nine runs on 13 hits over five innings in a loss at Colorado. We’ll back the Brewers on the road. |

08-11-14 | Detroit Tigers -108 v. Pittsburgh Pirates | Top | 6-11 | Loss | -108 | 6 h 20 m | Show |
# 971 7:05pm Tigers – 108 The Pirates scored five runs in dropping two of three to San Diego over the weekend and continue to struggle with injuries to reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen and second baseman Neil Walker.  Detroit's lead has dwindled to one-half game over surging Kansas City atop the American League Central and I’m looking for a great effort by them tonight. While Verlander's days as a dominant ace appear to be over, he has turned in four consecutive quality starts but has alternated wins and losses in that span. A pair of solo homers were the only runs Verlander allowed over seven innings in a loss at the New York Yankees on Wednesday. He has an overpowering track record against the Pirates, tossing a pair of complete games and winning all four of his starts while compiling a 1.97 ERA. Locke rebounded from back-to-back losses - both on the road - to beat Miami last time out, surrendering three runs (one earned) in seven innings for his first win in a month. He has been victimized by the long ball of late, yielding eight in his last four starts after giving up only three in his first eight turns. I look for Verlander to step up and pitch a gem. |

08-10-14 | Tampa Bay Rays -152 v. Chicago Cubs | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -152 | 2 h 6 m | Show |
# 929 2:20pm Rays – 152 Alex Cobb attempts to record his sixth consecutive victory when the Tampa Bay Rays complete their three-game set against the host Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Cobb is 5-0 over his last seven starts, and his importance to the rotation has risen after the recent trade of David Price to Detroit. Tampa Bay, which is 5 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot in the American League, won the first two games of the series – and three straight overall. Cobb received a no-decision against Oakland in his last turn, when he allowed two runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. He only fanned four against the Athletics after racking up 22 strikeouts over his previous two outings versus St. Louis and Milwaukee. Cobb, who never has faced the Cubs, is 6-2 with a 3.42 ERA in nine road starts this season.Wood is 0-4 in nine starts since last recording a victory on June 15. He received a no-decision against Colorado in his last outing on Tuesday, when he gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings. Wood has worked more than six frames just once during the winless stretch and is facing Tampa Bay for the first time. I like the Rays to get the sweep. |

08-10-14 | San Francisco Giants v. Kansas City Royals -130 | Top | 4-7 | Win | 100 | 2 h 46 m | Show |
# 928 2:10pm Royals – 130 The Kansas City Royals try for their seventh straight victory - and a three-game sweep of San Francisco - when they host the Giants on Sunday. James Shields pitched a four-hitter in Kansas City's 5-0 win Saturday. The Royals recorded their second complete game in three contests while winning for the 14th time in 17 games as they crept to within 1 1/2 of first-place Detroit in the American League Central while strengthening their grip on the second wild-card spot. San Francisco has lost four of five and 11 of 16, and remains in a virtual tie for the second wild-card position with St. Louis in the National League. Tim Lincecum is 0-2 with a 7.41 ERA in four starts since the All-Star break and opposes Danny Duffy, who won for the first time in six outings after receiving ample run support in his last turn. I’ll lay the price with the Royals. |

08-09-14 | Los Angeles Dodgers -128 v. Milwaukee Brewers | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -128 | 7 h 13 m | Show |
# 959 7:10pm Dodgers – 128 Greinke struggled against one former team on Monday, surrendering five runs - three earned - on six hits in seven innings to suffer a loss against the Angels, and is hoping to avoid a similar fate against another former team in Milwaukee. The 30-year-old was brilliant at Miller Park when he was with the Brewers, posting a 15-0 record on that mound across parts of two seasons. Fiers is being recalled to take over the rotation spot vacated by Matt Garza, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique. Fiers last pitched in the majors on June 24 against Washington, going four innings in relief while allowing two runs and four hits. The 29-year-old made 22 starts for the Brewers in 2012 and three in 2013, posting a 9-13 record with a 4.46 ERA in that role. Look for the Dodgers bats to get going today. |

08-09-14 | St. Louis Cardinals v. Baltimore Orioles +100 | Top | 3-10 | Win | 100 | 4 h 59 m | Show |
# 978 4:05pm Orioles + 100 Less than 24 hours after conducting their own version of a home run derby, the Baltimore Orioles look to batter another new member of St. Louis' rotation when they host the Cardinals in the middle contest of their three-game interleague series Saturday afternoon. J.J. Hardy led the charge in Friday's 12-2 rout with a pair of blasts while Manny Machado, Adam Jones, Chris Davis and Ryan Flaherty also went deep as Baltimore belted a season-high six homers and reached Justin Masterson for five runs in two-plus innings. I look for the Baltimore bats to do some more damage vs. John Lackey. Take Baltimore at home. |
|||||||
08-09-14 | Tampa Bay Rays -134 v. Chicago Cubs | Top | 4-0 | Win | 100 | 4 h 58 m | Show |
# 975 4:10pm Rays – 134 The Tampa Bay Rays are trying to stay in contention in the American League wild-card hunt as they continue their 10-game road trip with the second of a three-game series at the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon. While the Rays are sitting 5 1/2 games out of the second wild card, the Cubs are playing out the string and getting a close-up look at some of their promising youngsters but today’s starter is not one of them. The Cubs are 9-24 in Jackson's last 33 starts, 4-13 in their last 17 games as a home underdog, 1-8 in their last 9 during game 2 of a series and 1-5 in their last 6 interleague home games. Tampa Bay is 7-0 in their last 7 road games as a favorite of -110 to -150, 9-1 in their last 10 during game 2 of a series and 10-2 in their last 12 versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. Take Tampa Bay here in Chicago. |

08-08-14 | San Francisco Giants -113 v. Kansas City Royals | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -113 | 8 h 36 m | Show |
# 929 8:10pm Giants – 113 Bumgarner pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 in a 9-0 victory over the Mets in New York on Sunday for his third straight road victory and second complete game of the season. "Fastball command is what set up that whole game for us," the 25-year-old North Carolina native told reporters after recording his second career shutout. "When you're feeling good on days like (Sunday), you can go after guys." Bumgarner, who is 4-4 with a 4.41 ERA in 10 interleague starts, has never faced Kansas City.Vargas allowed seven runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of Kansas City's 8-3 loss at Oakland — his first start since July 8. The 31-year-old Californian had a perfect game through four innings — "Just vintage Vargas," manager Ned Yost told reporters — before the Athletics scored eight runs in the fifth with the help of some shoddy defense. Vargas, who yielded two runs in 20 first innings this year, is 4-3 with a 4.77 ERA in 10 home starts this season compared to a 2.56 ERA in 10 road turns. The Giants on the road are the play. |

08-08-14 | Miami Marlins v. Cincinnati Reds -126 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -126 | 7 h 35 m | Show |
# 906 7:10pm Reds – 126 The Cincinnati Reds have won three straight games and suddenly look like a team that wants to jump into the race for both the National League Central and the wild cards. The Reds will try to make it four in a row when they host the Miami Marlins in the opener of a three-game series on Friday. Miami just got finished helping out one NL Central contender, dropping two of three at Pittsburgh to fall four games under .500. The Marlins have lost six of eight since a six-game winning streak got them to .500, and surrendered a total of 14 runs in back to back losses to close out the series in Pittsburgh. Eovaldi broke out of a slump with seven strong innings against the Reds on Saturday, surrendering one run and two hits, but was held out of the decision. The 24-year-old was blasted for 18 runs in 16 1/3 innings over his previous three outings. Eovaldi is 2-3 with a 3.48 ERA in 10 starts on the road this season.Leake surrendered one run and three hits in six innings to beat the Marlins on Sunday, walking four and striking out five. The Arizona State product has won his last two starts while allowing a total of one run and eight hits. Leake has never lost to Miami, owning a 3-0 record with a 1.93 ERA in three career starts against the NL East challenger. We’ll back the Reds here at home. |
|||||||
08-08-14 | St. Louis Cardinals v. Baltimore Orioles -133 | Top | 2-12 | Win | 100 | 7 h 30 m | Show |
# 928 7:05pm Orioles – 133 The St. Louis Cardinals continue their battle with the American League East when they begin a three-game series at the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. Masterson makes his second start since being acquired from Cleveland after winning his debut Saturday against Milwaukee despite surrendering five runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings. It was the first start since July 7 by the 29-year-old, who had been sidelined with a knee injury after going 4-6 with a 5.51 ERA in 19 outings with the Indians. Masterson's career record in 15 games - 11 starts - against the Orioles remained at 6-5 after a no-decision at Baltimore on May 22 in which he yielded five runs over 5 2/3 frames.Tillman snapped his six-start winless streak in a big way Sunday, scattering four hits and striking out six over seven scoreless innings against Seattle. The 26-year-old went 0-1 during his drought despite allowing three earned runs or fewer in each outing. Tillman, who never has faced St. Louis, has gone 11 straight starts without yielding more than three earned runs but is just 3-3 in that span. I’m on Baltimore once again today. |

08-07-14 | Baltimore Orioles +101 v. Toronto Blue Jays | Top | 2-1 | Win | 101 | 6 h 38 m | Show |
# 961 7:05pm Orioles + 101 The Baltimore Orioles sit four games up in the American League East, but their lead would be bigger if they could find a way to extend their strong division play into their matchups against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles play at Toronto on Thursday in the finale of a three-game series, having split their 12 matchups with Toronto in 2014 while going 21-13 against the rest of the division. Gonzalez looks for his second win since mid-June when he makes his 20th appearance (19th start) of the season. He gave up four runs on seven hits in five innings Saturday against Seattle. Gonzalez, who has posted a 2.60 ERA in his past five starts, gave up two earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in a no-decision against Toronto on April 22.Happ made one of his strongest starts of the season his last time out, allowing one run on three hits in seven innings of a no-decision Friday at Houston. The 31-year-old gave up nine runs in 11 1/3 innings in his first two starts of July, but in his past three outings has surrendered three earned runs in 18 1/3 frames. I look for Baltimore to get this road win. |
|||||||
08-05-14 | Boston Red Sox v. St. Louis Cardinals -148 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 7 h 8 m | Show |
# 974 8:15pm Cardinals – 148 De La Rosa looks to halt a two-game skid as he makes his 10th start of the season. Both of the losses came against Toronto, which held the Red Sox to a total of two runs in the defeats while reaching the 25-year-old Dominican for 10 - nine earned - and 18 hits over 10 innings. De La Rosa, who never has faced the Cardinals, is 0-3 with a 6.04 ERA in four road outings.Lynn also enters with a two-game losing streak but pitched well enough to win both contests, yielding two runs - one earned - while working at least six innings in each of them. The 27-year-old won his previous three starts and has allowed fewer than three runs in each of his last five outings. Lynn, who will be pitching against Boston for the first time in the regular season, is 7-3 with a 2.72 ERA in 12 home turns. The Cardinals get the needed win. |

08-05-14 | Baltimore Orioles +101 v. Toronto Blue Jays | Top | 9-3 | Win | 101 | 6 h 56 m | Show |
# 961 7:05pm Orioles + 101 The Toronto Blue Jays attempt to close the gap in the American League East when they host the division-leading Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday in the opener of their three-game series. Toronto enters the showdown four games behind Baltimore after scoring a total of four runs while losing the final three contests of a four-game set at Houston. After taking two of three from Seattle to complete a 4-2 homestand, Baltimore rallied for five runs over the latter three innings to post a 7-3 triumph at Washington on Monday in the makeup of an interleague contest postponed in early July. Norris was forced to settle for a no-decision on Thursday despite scattering eight hits over seven scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels. The 29-year-old lost two of his previous three outings following a four-start winning streak that preceded a stint on the disabled list. Norris improved to 2-0 in four career turns against Toronto on June 14, when he yielded one run over 6 2/3 innings. Buehrle fell to 8-9 lifetime against the Orioles after surrendering four runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 frames at Baltimore on June 12. Back Baltimore on the road. |
|||||||
08-03-14 | Pittsburgh Pirates -166 v. Arizona Diamondbacks | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -166 | 4 h 27 m | Show |
# 961 4:10pm Pirates – 166 The Pittsburgh Pirates are making a living out of feasting on the Arizona Diamondbacks’ bullpen this weekend. The Pirates will try to clinch the four-game series and ensure a winning road trip when they visit the Diamondbacks on Sunday for the finale. Each of the last two games have been close affairs until the eighth inning, when the Pittsburgh offense unleashed on the Arizona bullpen to the tune of 15 total runs in the final two frames. Liriano has been a different pitcher since the All-Star break and struck out a season-high 11 while yielding one run and four hits to earn a win at San Francisco on Tuesday. The Dominican Republic native has surrendered three runs - two earned - while striking out 23 in 19 innings since the break. Liriano is facing Arizona for the first time in 2014 and is just 2-4 despite a 2.95 ERA on the road. Cahill lasted six innings at Cincinnati on Friday - his longest stint since rejoining the rotation after the All-Star break. The 26-year-old allowed three runs on seven hits without walking a batter but was saddled with the loss as the Diamondbacks went scoreless. Cahill is 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA in three career starts against the Pirates. Nice edge here with Pittsburgh. |

08-03-14 | Milwaukee Brewers v. St. Louis Cardinals -131 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 2 h 30 m | Show |
# 958 2:15pm Cardinals – 131 After one new acquisition emerged victorious in his debut, the St. Louis Cardinals hope the same holds true for another on Sunday. John Lackey looks to follow in Justin Masterson's footsteps when he takes the mound in the rubber match of the three-game series versus the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. Masterson picked up the win despite laboring through six innings and Kolten Wong keyed the high-powered offense with a homer among his three hits as St. Louis, which is one-half game out of a wild-card spot in the National League, slugged its way to a 9-7 triumph on Saturday. Garza dropped both meetings with St. Louis to fall to 3-3 in his career against the division rival. Garza yielded four runs in seven innings of a 4-0 loss on April 14 before permitting five runs in three frames 16 days later in a 9-3 setback. I like the Cardinals in this spot. |
|||||||
08-02-14 | San Francisco Giants v. New York Mets -124 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 23 m | Show |
# 906 7:10pm Mets – 124 A return to the NL did not help Peavy record his first win in over three months as the veteran lost his debut with San Francisco after allowing four runs - three earned - and six hits over six innings against Los Angeles on Sunday. The 33-year-old has gone an astounding 0-10 since winning at Toronto on April 25. The Mets DeGrom continued his sensational stretch on Sunday, scattering four hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings at Milwaukee en route to his fourth consecutive victory. It was the fourth scoreless outing of the season for the 26-year-old, who has allowed a total of two runs in 27 1/3 frames during his winning streak. DeGrom, who never has faced the Giants, has yielded seven runs over his last seven starts.  |
|||||||
08-01-14 | Seattle Mariners v. Baltimore Orioles -130 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 7 h 0 m | Show |
# 966 7:05pm Orioles – 130 Wei-Yin Chen dazzled against Seattle in his last outing and looks for another strong performance when the Baltimore Orioles begin a three-game series against the visiting Mariners on Friday. Chen scattered five hits and one walk in eight dominating innings against Seattle on July 24 to stretch his personal winning streak to four games. Baltimore won three of the four contests in that series while holding the offensively challenged Mariners to seven runs. Chen has allowed eight runs over 24 2/3 innings during his winning streak. He has issued two or fewer walks in 19 of his 20 starts and has walked only 20 batters all season. Elias received a no-decision on Sunday against Baltimore when he gave up one run and four hits in five innings. He is just 1-3 over his last five starts and has pitched less than six innings in the past four outings. Baltimore is the play.  |
|||||||
07-30-14 | St. Louis Cardinals v. San Diego Padres -113 | Top | 1-12 | Win | 100 | 10 h 43 m | Show |
# 964 10:10pm Padres – 113 San Diego will send out one of the most underrated starters in Jesse Hahn, who is 6-2 with a 2.12 ERA and 1.050 WHIP over 8 starts. Hahn hasn't allowed more than 3 earned runs in a single start since his big league debut back on June 3. As for the Cardinals' Joe Kelly, he comes in with a 7.36 ERA and 1.636 WHIP over his last 3 starts and has been hit hard in each of his last two outings on the road. Let’s take San Diego here at home. |
|||||||
07-30-14 | Minnesota Twins v. Kansas City Royals -142 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 44 m | Show |
978 8:05pm Royals – 141 Hughes was pulled after three-plus innings in his last start against the White Sox on Thursday after Chicago slugger Adam Dunn hit a sharp comebacker off his right shin in the loss. The No. 23 overall pick of the 2004 draft was saddled with his second straight loss after he was charged with two runs on four hits. Hughes notched his first victory of the season on April 20 versus the Royals after giving up three runs in six frames and is 6-2 despite a 5.77 ERA in 10 career appearances (nine starts) against them. Although counterpart Corey Kluber took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning for Cleveland, Duffy was nearly his equal in Thursday’s 14-inning victory over the Indians. The 25-year-old permitted only two singles and walked a pair over seven frames while striking out seven to escape with a no-decision. Duffy, who is receiving 2.47 runs of support per nine innings – the lowest mark in the majors among pitchers who have worked at least 90 innings – got his last victory before his current four-game winless skid on June 30 against the Twins, allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings. Duffy has posted a 0.92 ERA over his last three starts, but is 0-2 over that span. He is due for a win and I’m backing the Royals. |
|||||||
07-30-14 | Seattle Mariners -105 v. Cleveland Indians | Top | 0-2 | Loss | -105 | 7 h 38 m | Show |
# 969 7:05pm Mariners – 105 Seattle ace Felix Hernandez tries to set a major-league record that reflects his consistent excellence when the Mariners visit the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday in the middle contest of their three-game series. Hernandez has recorded an American League-record 13 starts with at least seven innings while yielding two or fewer runs, sharing the all-time standard with Hall-of-Famer Tom Seaver (1971). The All-Star is 7-1 with a 1.36 ERA while striking out 113 and walking 17 during that span.Hernandez opposes Corey Kluber, who retired the first 19 batters he faced in his last outing while extending his unbeaten streak to four starts with a no-decision.  Seattle remained two games behind Toronto for the final wild-card spot in the AL with a 5-2 victory in Tuesday's series opener - snapping a six-game losing streak in Cleveland - while the Indians fell five games off the pace with their fifth loss in six contests. We’ll lay the price with King Felix on the road. |
|||||||
07-29-14 | Washington Nationals v. Miami Marlins +133 | Top | 0-3 | Win | 133 | 8 h 41 m | Show |
# 904 7:10pm Marlins + 133 The Miami Marlins look to build off the emotion of a stirring comeback when they host the Washington Nationals in the second of a three-game series on Tuesday. The Marlins rallied from six runs down and scored four times in the ninth inning to shock the National League East-leading Nationals 7-6 on Monday, notching their fifth straight victory. Washington saw its lead in the NL East shrink to a half-game over Atlanta after dropping three of five and Miami is six back in third place. Strasburg has managed just one victory in his last eight starts and is winless in the last four while allowing 12 runs over 25 innings. The 26-year-old San Diego native has yielded three or fewer runs in 14 of 22 starts while striking out 163 and walking 30 in 137 1/3 innings. Stanton is 9-for-26 with three homers versus Strasburg, who is 7-4 with a 4.17 ERA in 16 career starts against the Marlins.Alvarez rebounded from two straight losses by limiting Atlanta to two runs over eight innings in a 3-2 victory last Thursday. The Venezuela native blanked Washington over five innings before leaving with elbow stiffness on May 28 and is 0-3 with a 3.19 ERA in six career starts versus the Nationals. Bryce Harper is 6-for-13 with two homers against Alvarez, who permitted two or fewer runs in 14 of his last 18 outings. Let’s back Miami as a nice home underdog.  |
|||||||
07-27-14 | San Diego Padres +162 v. Atlanta Braves | Top | 3-8 | Loss | -100 | 5 h 41 m | Show |
# 913 5:05pm Padres + 162 Stults lost for the ninth time in his last 10 decisions Tuesday, when he allowed three runs over five innings against the Chicago Cubs. The 34-year-old is 0-8 with a 5.43 ERA in 11 starts on the road this season. Stults, who has failed to pitch past the fifth inning in six of his last eight starts, but owns a 2-2 record with a 2.48 ERA in seven career games (three starts) against Atlanta.Minor has posted a 7.65 ERA over his last eight starts, including a rough outing Tuesday against Miami in which he allowed six runs over three frames. Minor is seeking his first win in three career starts against the Padres. With two bad pitchers here I’ll take my chances with San Diego at a nice plus price. |
|||||||
07-26-14 | Pittsburgh Pirates -116 v. Colorado Rockies | Top | 1-8 | Loss | -116 | 8 h 13 m | Show |
# 961 8:10pm Pirates – 116 Pittsburgh remained tied with St. Louis - three games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central and one-half game behind Atlanta for a wild-card berth - after falling to 5-2 since the All-Star break as it continues a stretch of 16 straight contests against NL West teams. Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen (.318, 17 homers, 63 RBIs), the 2013 NL MVP, is 6-for-26 with zero homers and two RBIs in seven contests since making his fourth consecutive All-Star game appearance. Pittsburgh's Jeff Locke opposes rookie Tyler Matzek in a rematch of the Pirates' 5-3 victory Sunday, when neither received a decision. Colorado is out of playoff contention after losing 25 of its last 33 games. Locke on Sunday yielded three runs and seven hits in six innings to stretch his unbeaten streak to seven outings. The 26-year-old New Hampshire native sports a 2.38 ERA in his last eight turns - all quality starts. Locke has left four of his 10 outings this season with the lead only to be the victim of a blown save. Matzek, the 11th overall pick in 2009 by the Rockies, has a 7.27 ERA and struck out only eight covering 17 1/3 innings in his last three turns at home. Take Pittsburgh on the road. |
|||||||
07-26-14 | Cleveland Indians -104 v. Kansas City Royals | Top | 5-7 | Loss | -104 | 7 h 13 m | Show |
# 971 7:05pm Indians - 104 McAllister is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to make his 13th start of the season. The 26-year-old saw his winless streak reach eight outings (0-5) on July 19 despite allowing just one run and three hits over 5 1/3 innings at Detroit. McAllister evened his career record against Kansas City to 2-2 on April 21, when he yielded three runs - two earned - over six frames in a 4-3 triumph.Guthrie lost his third consecutive start Monday at the Chicago White Sox despite allowing only three runs and five hits in six innings. The 35-year-old surrendered a total of 14 runs over eight frames in his previous two outings. Guthrie fell to 4-5 lifetime against the Indians on July 5, when he was tagged for six runs and 11 hits over four innings at Cleveland. I like the Indians here.  |
|||||||
07-25-14 | Toronto Blue Jays v. New York Yankees -132 | Top | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 6 h 6 m | Show |
# 916 7:05pm Yankees – 132 The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays each find themselves on a roll as they get set for a critical three-game series in the Bronx beginning Friday. The Blue Jays bounced back from a rough stretch by taking the final three of a four-game set from the Boston Red Sox this week while the Yankees turned the same trick against the Texas Rangers. The two American League East rivals enter the weekend in a virtual tie for second place in the division. The Blue Jays are losers of 16 straight games at Yankee Stadium, with the last victory coming on Aug. 29, 2012. Buehrle began the season 10-1 in his first 12 outings and has since gone winless in his last eight turns. Poor run support can be blamed for some of that but the offense actually bailed out the veteran when he allowed five runs in six innings on Sunday and ended up without a decision. Buehrle is 0-1 in two starts against New York this season, yielding a total of seven runs in 12 2/3 innings. Kuroda is the last man left standing from the Yankees’ opening day rotation and is coming off back-to-back quality starts. The Japan native surrendered an unearned run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings against Cincinnati on Sunday but was held out of the decision in a game New York went on to win 3-2. Kuroda picked up a win at Toronto on June 25, allowing three runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 frames. Take the Yankees to continue to dominate the Jays in the Bronx. |

07-24-14 | Baltimore Orioles v. Seattle Mariners -134 | Top | 4-0 | Loss | -134 | 8 h 3 m | Show |
# 972 10:10pm Mariners – 134 Chen won his third consecutive start last Saturday against Oakland despite allowing three runs over five innings. The 33-year-old is looking to work deeper into the game Thursday after throwing fewer than 100 pitches in each of his last five starts. Chen is 0-2 with a 4.56 ERA in four career starts against Seattle, including 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA in three outings at Safeco Field.After struggling in his two final starts last month, Iwakuma has gone 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA in four July starts. The 29-year-old, who has issued a total of eight walks in 15 starts, exited after throwing 77 pitches in his first outing following the All-Star break. Iwakuma is facing Baltimore for the second time after allowing three runs in five innings on July 2, 2012 in his first career start. Lay it with Seattle at home. |

07-24-14 | San Diego Padres -122 v. Chicago Cubs | Top | 13-3 | Win | 100 | 6 h 57 m | Show |
# 955 8:05pm Padres – 122 The San Diego Padres are coming off a rare offensive outburst and look to keep it going against a pitcher they've hit hard over the years when they wrap up a three-game road series with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. San Diego evened the set with an 8-3 win in which Tommy Medica and Yangervis Solarte were the unlikely stars at the plate. The club will attempt to continue its dominance against Chicago's Edwin Jackson, who never has beaten the Padres. Jackson has been better at home than on the road, but his 4-3 record and 5.19 ERA in nine starts at Wrigley Field are nothing to celebrate. The 30-year-old is winless in five outings since June 20 and gave up three runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision last time out versus Arizona. Jackson fell to 0-5 with a 6.94 ERA in 11 games (nine starts) against the Padres after giving up eight runs in four frames at San Diego on May 23. With his next win, Ross will triple his previous career high. The All-Star has recorded six straight quality starts but is just 2-4 over that span despite a 1.47 ERA. The 27-year-old is making his first start versus the Cubs. San Diego gets the money in this spot. |

07-22-14 | Cincinnati Reds +110 v. Milwaukee Brewers | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 20 m | Show |
# 959 8:10pm Reds + 110 The Cincinnati Reds already were scuffling on offense before their National League-best defense let them down against a team they have dominated this season. The Reds, who continue their three-game set at the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday, had defeated their National League Central rivals in seven of their 10 meetings prior to Monday’s 5-2 loss. Bailey, who posted a 0.53 ERA in his previous two starts before the injury when he faced the Cubs, has faced the Brewers three times in 2014 – going 1-1 with a 3.22 ERA. Making his first major-league start in nearly two months, Nelson suffered his first career loss in a 10-2 setback against St. Louis on July 12. The Oregon native was pounded for eight runs (six earned) on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings – a complete departure from his May 25 season debut in which he held Miami scoreless over 5 2/3 frames. Take the Reds to bounce back tonight.  |

07-22-14 | Boston Red Sox -113 v. Toronto Blue Jays | Top | 3-7 | Loss | -113 | 7 h 16 m | Show |
# 965 7:05pm Red Sox – 113 The Boston Red Sox are toying with the emotions of their fan base with a hot streak that is threatening to catapult them back into contention. The Red Sox go for their sixth straight win when they visit the Toronto Blue Jays for the second contest of a four-game set on Tuesday. Boston appeared ready to sell off all their veteran assets two weeks ago but has won eight of its last nine to provide the organization some hope, while the Blue Jays move in the other direction. The Red Sox showed exactly how much the fortunes of the two franchises have changed in the last month by putting up season highs in runs, hits (18) and home runs (four) in a 14-1 drubbing in Monday’s series opener. Peavy’s lone win came at Toronto on April 25, when he held the Blue Jays to one run and five hits in seven frames. Happ appeared in relief before the break at Tampa Bay and was reached for two runs while recording just two outs. The 31-year-old was about that effective in his last start, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings to suffer a loss at the Los Angeles Angels on July 7. Happ recorded a win at Boston on May 20 despite surrendering four runs and seven hits in five innings. The Red Sox are the play. |

07-21-14 | Kansas City Royals v. Chicago White Sox -170 | Top | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 6 m | Show |
# 918 8:10pm White Sox – 170 The Kansas City Royals looked primed to make a run at the beginning of the month but have since fallen back to the pack in the American League. The Royals will attempt to pick things back up when they visit the Chicago White Sox for the opener of a three-game series on Monday. Kansas City was five games over .500 and in contention for a wild-card slot in the AL on July 4 but has since dropped four straight and nine of 12.The White Sox are further off the pace at 47-52 but are 26-22 at home and began the second half by taking two of three from the Houston Astros. The Royals totaled five runs in three games at Boston over the weekend and are averaging 2.8 runs over the last 12 contests and now they face one of the best in the AL. Sale got a nice long rest and will make his first start in 11 days while attempting to post his seventh straight quality start. The 25-year-old, who worked an inning for the American League in the All-Star Game on Tuesday, surrendered a total of two runs while striking out 18 and did not issue a walk over 16 2/3 innings in his final two starts before the break. Sale pitched eight scoreless innings to earn a win at Kansas City on April 6, scattering four hits and striking out six. Back Sale and the Sox. |

07-21-14 | Cincinnati Reds +117 v. Milwaukee Brewers | Top | 2-5 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 6 m | Show |
# 907 8:10pm Reds + 117 The Cincinnati Reds look to continue their success against the Milwaukee Brewers when the National League Central rivals begin a three-game series Monday at Miller Park. Both teams are looking to bounce back after struggling in their first series following the All-Star break, with the Reds losing three straight on the road to the New York Yankees and the Brewers dropping two of three against host Washington. Cincinnati has won or tied seven of its last 10 series with Milwaukee, including all three earlier this season. Milwaukee has lost 13 of its last 16 and could use a strong outing from Wily Peralta after Matt Garza and Yovani Gallardo failed to work deep into games over the weekend. The Reds received a boost Sunday with the return of utilityman Skip Schumaker, who started at second base in his first appearance since landing on the disabled list July 10 due to a concussion. Latos left his last start before the All-Star break after five innings due to back spasms, but Price said he’s pain-free heading into Monday’s outing. The 26-year-old, who missed the first two months of the season due to elbow and knee injuries, went 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA in three starts before allowing four runs (three earned) against Pittsburgh on July 11. Latos is 3-4 with a 3.16 ERA in 10 career starts against Milwaukee. Peralta entered the All-Star break on a high note by holding St. Louis to an unearned run over seven innings on July 13. It was a much-needed strong performance by the 25-year-old, who posted a 9.37 ERA over his previous three starts. I like the Reds as a dog in this spot. |

07-20-14 | Milwaukee Brewers v. Washington Nationals -129 | Top | 4-5 | Win | 100 | 2 h 55 m | Show |
# 954 1:35pm Nationals – 129 The Milwaukee Brewers have had at least a share of first place in the National League Central every day since April 5, but that could change after Sunday’s series finale against the host Washington Nationals. The Brewers head into the rubber match of the three-game set tied with St. Louis for the division lead, and they’re hoping for a strong outing from Yovani Gallardo after Matt Garza recorded just one out in Saturday’s 8-3 loss. They’ll be tested again by a Washington team that has won 11 of its last 16 to move into a tie with Atlanta atop the NL East. The All-Star break came at a good time for Gallardo, who has allowed a total of 15 runs (12 earned) in 17 1/3 innings over his last three starts. Gallardo is 3-3 with a 5.61 ERA in 10 career games (nine starts) against Washington. Gonzalez is starting on an extra day of rest after missing Thursday’s bullpen session when one of his flights was cancelled. The 28-year-old had his three-game winning streak snapped on July 10, when he allowed four runs (three earned) over 6 2/3 innings of a 6-5 loss at Baltimore. Gonzalez, who has limited Carlos Gomez to one hit in 10 at-bats, is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in three career starts against Milwaukee. Back the Nats at home.  |

07-19-14 | Colorado Rockies v. Pittsburgh Pirates -169 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 29 m | Show |
# 904 7:05pm Pirates – 169 The Pittsburgh Pirates try to continue their hot play at home against the Colorado Rockies - the worst road team in the major leagues - on Saturday in the middle contest of a three-game series. Pittsburgh won for the 10th time in its last 12 home contests with a 4-2 victory on Friday. The Pirates are 3 1/2 games behind first-place Milwaukee in the National League Central - and 2 1/2 out of wild-card position - while Colorado, which is 16-31 on the road, fell to 15-36 in its last 51 games since starting the season 25-20. Anderson yielded six runs - five in the first inning - and 10 hits while walking three in five innings of a 13-5 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Morton received his second consecutive no-decision after allowing five runs and six hits (two home runs) while striking out six in as many innings of the Pirates' 6-5 victory at Cincinnati on Saturday. The 30-year-old New Jersey native was far more effective in his previous outing when he permitted one hit in seven shutout innings of a 1-0 loss at St. Louis on July 7. Morton is 2-0 with a 3.33 ERA in four starts against the Rockies while having little trouble with Troy Tulowitzki (1-for-10).. Lay the price with Pittsburgh. |

07-18-14 | Seattle Mariners +120 v. Los Angeles Angels | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 10 h 19 m | Show |
# 975 10:05pm Mariners + 120 Seattle’s bid for its first playoff berth in 12 years resumes Friday when the Mariners visit the Los Angeles Angels for the start of a three-game series. The Mariners stand eight games behind American League West-leading Oakland, but they hold a 2 1/2-game lead in the race for the second wild card. Los Angeles sits 1 1/2 games behind Oakland after posting a major league-best 26-9 record since June 6. Iwakuma entered the All-Star break on a hot streak, going 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA over his last three starts with 25 strikeouts and no walks. The 33-year-old is 5-0 with a 1.49 ERA in seven career games (six starts) against the Angels. Seattle opened the season in Anaheim and outscored the Angels by a combined score of 26-8 during a three-game sweep. Take Seattle at this nice plus price. |

07-18-14 | Philadelphia Phillies v. Atlanta Braves -150 | Top | 4-6 | Win | 100 | 8 h 55 m | Show |
# 958 7:35pm Braves – 150 The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves reside near the bottom of the major leagues in runs scored at the All-Star break, but pitching is the reason the Braves are in a virtual tie for the National League East lead while the Phillies sit in last place. Philadelphia opens a three-game series in Atlanta on Friday looking for stability from a pitching staff that ranks 19th in the majors in ERA at 3.90, while Atlanta brings the sixth-best staff ERA (3.36) into the contest. Scoring has proven problematic for both teams with the Phillies ranking tied for 25th in runs scored and the Braves at 28th. The 37-year-old Burnett has provided stability to the rotation despite a lack of run support as the Phillies have scored two runs or fewer in eight of his starts. He is 1-1 in three July outings with 23 strikeouts and only eight earned runs allowed in 20 2/3 innings. Burnett got a no-decision in his one start against the Braves this season despite throwing seven shutout innings, and is 5-12 with a 3.90 ERA in 22 career games (21 starts) against Atlanta.Santana lost three consecutive starts in mid-June, but is 2-1 in his past three outings with a 3.43 ERA and eight runs allowed in 21 innings. The 31-year-old is 1-1 in three starts against Philadelphia this season with a 2.89 ERA, beating the Phillies in the first game of a June 28 doubleheader by allowing two runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. Santana has allowed only nine homers in 17 starts this season. We’ll back the Braves here. |

07-15-14 | National League v. American League -104 | Top | 3-5 | Win | 100 | 8 h 7 m | Show |
American League Some of the faces will change but one theme remains the same for Tuesday's Major League All-Star Game: A retiring member of baseball's most storied franchise will command center stage for the second straight year. New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter gets the start at shortstop in his 14th and final Midsummer Classic looking to lead the American League to its eighth win in 11 years. Seattle ace Felix Hernandez draws the start for the AL against St. Louis right-hander Adam Wainwright. Hernandez was an obvious choice for Boston manager John Farrell after he went 8-1 over his last 12 starts and has allowed two runs or fewer while pitching at least seven innings in his last 11 outings. A five-time All-Star and former Cy Young Award winner, Hernandez's only loss during that stretch came in a 1-0 setback to Texas on June 13. Waiting in the wings is reigning Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer of Detroit - last year's AL starter along with a pair of strong left-handed starters in Oakland's Scott Kazmir and Boston's Jon Lester. NL manager Mike Matheny of the Cardinals couldn't go wrong in choosing between Wainwright or Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, who has won eight consecutive starts and has allowed one run over his last 45 innings. Wainwright has pitched at least seven innings and yielded two runs in 15 of 19 starts and is 4-1 with six runs allowed over his last seven turns. Zack Greinke is well rested and could follow Dodgers teammate Kershaw to the mound for the NL, which has such depth that Cincinnati 12-game winner Alfredo Simon was a last-minute replacement. This should be an entertaining game and I’m on the American League. |

07-13-14 | Atlanta Braves -146 v. Chicago Cubs | Top | 10-7 | Win | 100 | 3 h 49 m | Show |
# 909 2:20pm Braves – 146 One day after putting an end to a lengthy power outage, the Atlanta Braves look to head into the All-Star break on a winning note when they face the host Chicago Cubs in Sunday's series finale. Chris Johnson belted a pair of two-run homers in Atlanta's 11-6 romp on Saturday, providing two of the three blasts by the Braves after they hit only one in their previous 12 games. Johnson has thrived throughout his career at Wrigley Field, batting .337 with six home runs and 16 RBIs in 23 games.  Consistency had been a hallmark of Teheran until his last start, when he was shelled for five runs and a season-high 11 hits over 3 1/3 innings in an 8-3 loss at the New York Mets. That followed a four-start span during which Teheran permitted a total of six earned runs and marked only the third time in 19 starts he yielded more than three. Teheran is 1-0 with a 3.32 ERA in three career starts against the Cubs. Wood is winless in his last four starts, posting an 0-2 record and giving up three earned runs in each while pitching more than 5 1/3 innings only once. Control has been a major problem for Wood, who has 16 strikeouts and 14 walks over 20 1/3 frames in his last four outings. Play on the Braves here on the road. |

07-13-14 | St. Louis Cardinals +113 v. Milwaukee Brewers | Top | 2-11 | Loss | -100 | 2 h 29 m | Show |
# 907 2:10pm Cardinals + 113 Kolten Wong and the St. Louis Cardinals have picked a fine time to heat up while the Milwaukee Brewers could find themselves in an unfamiliar position with yet another loss on Sunday. Wong looks to continue his hot hand as the Cardinals vie for a sweep of the reeling Brewers and sole possession of first place in the National League Central with a victory in the series finale on Sunday. Wong homered in each of the first two contests and has gone deep five times in the last seven games. After overcoming a six-run deficit in the series opener, St. Louis breezed to its eighth win in 11 outings with a 10-2 rout on Saturday while handing Milwaukee its season-high seventh loss in a row. Martinez was taken deep for the first time since being converted to a starting pitcher in his last outing on Tuesday, and the pair of two-run homers led to a no-decision versus Pittsburgh. The 22-year-old Dominican has been a good luck charm for St. Louis, which has gone on to win all five of his starts. Martinez has fared well in his relief efforts against Milwaukee, allowing just four hits in 9 2/3 scoreless innings. Martinez was taken deep for the first time since being converted to a starting pitcher in his last outing on Tuesday, and the pair of two-run homers led to a no-decision versus Pittsburgh. Peralta tasted defeat for the first time since May 31 after getting blitzed for nine runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings in a 9-7 setback to Philadelphia on Tuesday. The 25-year-old has traditionally struggled versus St. Louis, but allowed just one run in 6 1/3 strong innings en route to a 5-1 victory on April 16. Despite the strong performance, Peralta still holds a 6.26 ERA against the Cardinals while allowing the team to bat .302 against him. Let’s keep rolling with the Cards. |

07-12-14 | St. Louis Cardinals -130 v. Milwaukee Brewers | Top | 10-2 | Win | 100 | 2 h 48 m | Show |
# 955 4:10pm Cardinals – 130 After erasing a six-run deficit for a signature victory, the visiting St. Louis Cardinals look to pull even with the reeling Milwaukee Brewers atop the National League Central when the rivals reconvene at Miller Park on Saturday. Matt Holliday has been riding quite the hot stretch, capped by his go-ahead solo homer in the ninth inning in St. Louis' stirring 7-6 triumph Friday. The slugger is 7-for-14 with five runs scored and four driven in during his last four games. While the Cardinals are riding high with seven wins in their last 10, the Brewers hit a new low after watching an early six-run advantage evaporate en route to their sixth straight loss and 10th in 11 outings. Wainwright pieced together his sixth consecutive dominant start after tossing seven strong innings in a 2-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Monday. The 32-year-old has allowed four runs and 33 hits in 45 2/3 innings during that stretch. Wainwright has made himself at home on the road, posting a 7-3 mark with a stingy 1.32 ERA while limiting the opposition to a .193 batting average. |

07-11-14 | Oakland A's v. Seattle Mariners -129 | Top | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 11 h 33 m | Show |
# 928 10:10pm Mariners – 129 The Seattle Mariners send ace Felix Hernandez to the mound Friday when they begin a crucial three-game series with the visiting Oakland Athletics. Hernandez, the top candidate to start for the American League in Tuesday's All-Star Game, was scheduled to pitch Thursday, but was held back as Seattle trails first-place Oakland by nine games in the West while holding down the final wild card spot by 1 1/2 games. Hernandez received a no-decision after allowing two runs and three hits while striking out eight in eight frames of Seattle's 3-2 victory in 14 innings over the White Sox in Chicago on Saturday. The 28-year-old Venezuelan has recorded a team-record 10 straight starts of at least seven innings while allowing two or fewer runs -  the longest single-season streak since Houston's Mike Scott (12) in 1986 and longest in the AL since Cleveland's Gaylord Perry (11) in 1974. Hernandez is 17-7 with a 2.64 ERA in 32 starts against Oakland - the most wins he has recorded against an opponent - and is 2-0 with a 2.49 ERA in three turns against the Athletics this season. I’ll lay the price with Seattle. |

07-11-14 | Washington Nationals -140 v. Philadelphia Phillies | Top | 2-6 | Loss | -140 | 7 h 27 m | Show |
# 903 7:05pm Nationals – 140 Washington dropped a 4-3 decision at Baltimore on Thursday to fall into a first-place tie with Atlanta in the NL East. Jayson Werth homered and Ryan Zimmerman recorded two hits and an RBI, but the Nationals were unable to overcome an early 4-0 deficit and lost for just the third time in 11 contests. Washington dropped two of three at Philadelphia at the beginning of May before registering a three-game sweep at home in early June. Zimmermann was forced to settle for a no-decision against Chicago on Sunday despite scattering seven hits over six scoreless innings. The 28-year-old All-Star has lowered his ERA from 4.07 over his last seven starts, allowing fewer than three runs in each outing. Zimmermann evened his career record against Philadelphia to 5-5 after yielding five hits over eight scoreless frames on June 3.Burnett is coming off a loss at Pittsburgh on Sunday, when he allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings against his former team. The 37-year-old has won only one of his last five starts but has given up three earned runs or fewer while working at least six frames in each outing. Burnett fell to 9-4 in 19 career games (18 starts) versus the Nationals after surrendering a season high-tying eight runs and 10 hits over six innings at Washington on June 4 in his worst start of the campaign. Take the Nationals in this spot.  |

07-10-14 | Atlanta Braves +108 v. New York Mets | Top | 3-1 | Win | 108 | 7 h 39 m | Show |
# 955 7:10pm Braves + 108 Bartolo Colon continues the revitalization of his career at age 41, while Aaron Harang has made the most of what some suspected would be his last chance at age 36. Harang takes the mound for the Atlanta Braves in the finale of a four-game series Thursday at the New York Mets, and Colon will pitch for the hosts in a matchup of two eight-game winners. Colon fired seven shutout innings against the Braves on April 8 in Atlanta, a 4-0 New York victory in which Harang only allowed one run. Harang, who signed with the Braves after Cleveland released him near the end of spring training, has won his past three starts while allowing seven earned runs in 21 innings. He beat Arizona Saturday, giving up three earned runs in eight innings. Harang is 1-1 with a 0.69 ERA against the Mets this season, including seven no-hit innings April 18 at New York. I’m betting the Braves don’t get swept by the Mets. |

07-09-14 | Chicago White Sox -105 v. Boston Red Sox | Top | 4-5 | Loss | -105 | 7 h 48 m | Show |
# 917 7:10pm White Sox – 105 Chicago ace Chris Sale likely will find his way onto the American League All-Star roster, but he'll try to remain sharp in his final audition when the White Sox visit the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday in the third contest of a four-game series. Rubby De La Rosa will be recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket and take the ball for last-place Boston (39-51), which fell to 1-7 on its 10-game homestand following an 8-3 loss Tuesday. The White Sox (44-47) outscored opponents 25-9 while winning five of their last six. Left-handed batters are hitting .121 in 2014 against Sale, who pitched a six-hitter while striking out a season-high 12 in a 7-1 victory over Seattle on Friday. Sale, who has 96 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings this season, received a no-decision after allowing one run and fanning 10 in Chicago's 3-1 loss to Boston on April 17. Take Chicago on the road. |

07-09-14 | Kansas City Royals +104 v. Tampa Bay Rays | Top | 5-4 | Win | 104 | 7 h 47 m | Show |
# 919 7:10pm Royals + 104 The Royals Ventura pitched a career-high 8 1/3 innings in his last outing Friday when he allowed one run and six hits in a victory at Cleveland. The 23-year-old from the Dominican Republic has lasted at least seven frames in four of his last five starts and is 4-2 since the beginning of June. Ventura gave up two hits in six scoreless innings of a no-decision against Tampa Bay on April 8 in his season debut. Cobb has won his last two starts despite giving up seven runs (six earned) combined over 10 innings after suffering through a 1-5 stretch and is 1-2 in four career starts against the Royals with a 5.04 ERA. Lorenzo Cain is 6-for-9 in the series and has reached base in seven straight at-bats for Kansas City while Eric Hosmer boasts an eight-game hitting streak for the Royals. I’m backing the Royals in this spot. |

07-08-14 | Chicago White Sox +146 v. Boston Red Sox | Top | 8-3 | Win | 146 | 8 h 58 m | Show |
# 965 7:10pm White Sox + 146 Chicago White Sox left-hander John Danks has a tough act to follow — well, four tough acts, actually. It's up to Danks to continue the recent dominance by Chicago's starting pitchers when the visiting White Sox aim to beat the Boston Red Sox for the second straight night. White Sox starting pitchers have allowed one earned run in their last 30 innings following 6 2/3 innings of one-hit ball from Scott Carroll in Monday's 4-0 victory. Monday's blanking added another embarrassing effort to a growing list for Boston, which has lost six of the first seven contests on its 10-game homestand. The Red Sox have hit the 50-loss mark before the All-Star break for only the third time since the break was introduced in 1933 and the first since 1966. Danks has recorded quality starts in seven of his last eight outings, going 4-2 with a 2.65 ERA over that span. He didn't get a decision last time out but turned in one of his strongest performances of the year with a season-high 10 strikeouts while allowing two runs over 7 2/3 innings. Workman has lost two straight starts and is coming off his worst outing of the year. The 25-year-old was tagged for six runs in four innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, and he has now surrendered five home runs in his past three starts. Take Chicago as a dog on the road. |

07-07-14 | Baltimore Orioles +165 v. Washington Nationals | Top | 8-2 | Win | 165 | 7 h 15 m | Show |
# 925 7:05pm Baltimore + 165 The Baltimore Orioles will try to summon some energy before visiting Washington on Monday in the first of four straight interleague games between the regional rivals. After splitting a day-night doubleheader at Boston on Saturday, the Orioles survived a 12-inning affair that lasted over five hours Sunday, resulting in a 7-6 victory. Baltimore, which hosts Washington for two games after two in the nation's capital, has won six of seven overall and is 18-10 against the Nationals since 2009. Tillman has posted a 5.53 ERA on the road but is 6-0 away from home and tossed seven scoreless innings in a victory at the New York Yankees in his previous road outing. Since giving up five runs in one inning at Texas on June 5, he has posted a 2.14 ERA in five starts overall. The Orioles averaged 11.3 hits in winning three of four from the Nationals last season. I’ll take Baltimore at this nice plus price. |

07-06-14 | Toronto Blue Jays v. Oakland A's -149 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 5 h 44 m | Show |
# 978 4:05pm A’s – 149 The league-leading Oakland Athletics turn to their new ace as they attempt to complete a sweep when they host the Toronto Blue Jays in the finale of their four-game series Sunday. Jeff Samardzija makes his debut for Oakland after being acquired along with Jason Hammel from the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. Samardzija may not know how to act pitching for his new team as Oakland leads the American League in runs. The veteran was 2-7 with Chicago despite a 2.83 ERA as the Cubs supplied him with an average of just 3.08 runs of support over 17 starts. The Athletics outscored Toronto 10-2 in winning the first three games of the series as the Blue Jays fell to 2-6 in their last eight contests. Hutchison rebounded from a pair of losses on Tuesday, when he struck out a season-high 10 batters while limiting Milwaukee to one run and three hits over seven innings. The 23-year-old has been inconsistent over his last seven starts, allowing four or more runs four times and fewer than two runs on three occasions. Lay the price with Oakland. |
