05-31-18 | Rangers v. Mariners -147 | Top | 1-6 | Win | 100 | 10 h 11 m | Show |
Mariners The Texas Rangers aim to win the series as well as post their seventh victory in 10 games when they visit the Seattle Mariners on Thursday for the finale of their four-game set. Robinson Chirinos went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in Wednesday's 7-6 triumph as the Rangers beat the Mariners for the second straight night after losing the series opener. PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers LH Mike Minor (4-3, 5.63 ERA) vs. Mariners LH Wade LeBlanc (0-0, 2.70) Minor halted a stretch of three straight winless starts on Friday by giving up four runs and seven hits over six innings in a victory over Kansas City. The 30-year-old served up two homers during the triumph and has allowed eight over his last five turns after giving up just two in his first five outings. Minor has posted a 7.27 ERA in two no-decisions against the Mariners this season and is 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA in six career appearances (three starts) versus Seattle. LeBlanc has a solid 1.71 ERA as a starter, yielding just five runs over 26 1/3 innings in those five outings. The 33-year-old allowed two runs and four hits over six frames against Minnesota in his last turn. LeBlanc has faced the Rangers just once in his career, surrendering five runs - one earned - and five hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief on August 19, 2013 while with Houston. Rangers are 7-18 in their last 25 games following a win. Mariners are 10-2 in their last 12 games following a loss. Mariners are 5-1 in their last 6 games with Morales behind home plate. |

05-31-18 | Pirates v. Cardinals -133 | Top | 8-10 | Win | 100 | 7 h 15 m | Show |
Cardinals After failing to cut into first-place Milwaukee's lead in the National League Central, the St. Louis Cardinals square off with division rival Pittsburgh as they host the Pirates on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series. St. Louis won two of three at Pittsburgh last weekend before dropping two of three to the Brewers to close out a road trip. The Pirates dropped the final two to the Cardinals last week and saw their losing streak stretch to four games before averting a sweep with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday for their third win in 12 games. PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Trevor Williams (5-3, 3.43 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Jack Flaherty (2-1, 2.15) Williams suffered the loss versus the Cardinals last Saturday after giving up four runs and seven hits over a season-low four innings. It marked the third time in four starts that he permitted four runs, although the 26-year-old beat the Cardinals on April 28 with six innings of two-run ball. Williams has had trouble against both Jose Martinez (5-for-8) and Matt Carpenter, who is 4-for-10 with two homers. Flaherty got the best of Pittsburgh last weekend, winning his second straight start by limiting the Pirates to one run and four hits over six innings. The 2014 first-round draft pick had the best performance of his brief major-league career in his previous turn, striking out 13 and allowing one run on two hits over 7 2/3 innings to beat Philadelphia. Pirates are 2-6 in Williams' last 8 starts vs. a team with a winning record. Cardinals are 7-2 in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning record. |

05-22-18 | Angels -103 v. Blue Jays | Top | 3-5 | Loss | -103 | 8 h 50 m | Show |
Angels The Los Angeles Angels have found a safe haven on the road with wins in 14 of 18 such contests this season. Los Angeles (26-21) aims to continue its stellar play away from Angel Stadium on Tuesday as it begins a 10-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series versus the Toronto Blue Jays (22-25), who have dropped four in a row and seven of eight overall. While the Angels are drawing rave reviews on the road, the Blue Jays didn't give their fans much to cheer as they committed four errors on Sunday and were outscored 27-12 en route to dropping all four contests to Oakland to begin their seven-game homestand. PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels RH Garrett Richards (4-2, 3.47 ERA) vs. Blue Jays LH J.A. Happ (5-3, 4.15) Richards was outdueled by Justin Verlander on Wednesday to fall to 1-2 in his last four outings despite allowing just two unearned runs on four hits over seven innings of a 2-0 setback to Houston. The 29-year-old was taken deep for the second straight contest after keeping the ball in the park in four of his previous five. Happ answered a horrific outing with a stellar one, as he bounced back from a seven-run effort in a 9-3 rout by Seattle on May 10 with a two-hit, 10-strikeout gem six days later in a 12-1 romp at the New York Mets. Justin Upton is 4-for-8 with a pair of homers and Ian Kinsler is 6-for-19 with two blasts against Happ, who is languishing with a 1-6 mark and 6.17 ERA in seven career appearances against the Angels. Angels are 7-0 in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing record and Angels are 4-1 in Richards' last 5 starts with 5 days of rest. Blue Jays are 6-14 in Happs last 20 starts during game 1 of a series. Blue Jays are 1-5 in Happs last 6 starts vs. Angels. |

05-11-18 | Mets v. Phillies -142 | Top | 3-1 | Loss | -142 | 7 h 3 m | Show |
Phillies The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies got off to vastly different starts this season, as the former defeated the latter on two occasions while bolting out to a sparkling 11-1 record. The fortunes of both clubs have changed dramatically since then, with the Mets (18-17) dropping eight of nine entering Friday's opener of a three-game series at the Phillies (22-15). The Mets' losing ways added a sliver of the absurd with a baffling lineup card snafu in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Cincinnati, but manager Mickey Callaway insists the team's work ethic will eventually get it back on track. Philadelphia capped a four-game sweep of San Francisco due in large part to the heroics of Carlos Santana, who went deep for the third time in the series with a three-run shot in Thursday afternoon's 6-3 victory. Odubel Herrera collected three hits for the second time in five outings to improve to 10-for-18 with two homers, nine RBIs and six runs scored in that stretch for the Phillies, who have come a long way since their 1-4 start to the season. PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Steven Matz (1-3, 4.23 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Jake Arrieta (3-1, 3.15) Matz avenged a disastrous seven-run outing on April 25 by recording his first quality start of the season after allowing one run on three hits in six innings of Saturday's 2-0 setback to Colorado. The 26-year-old had his start pushed back due to a stiff back and allowed a first-inning homer to Nolan Arenado, marking the sixth time he's been taken deep this season (27 2/3 innings). Arrieta missed Philadelphia's first series versus New York as he worked himself into shape after signing a three-year, $75 million contract in March. The 32-year-old enjoyed a three-start winning streak before getting blitzed against Miami on April 30, but rebounded to allow one run on two hits in six innings of a no-decision at Washington on Sunday. Asdrubal Cabrera has homered twice while batting .357 against Arrieta, but the right-hander has posted a 2-2 mark with a 2.30 ERA in seven career appearances versus the Mets. Mets are 1-6 in Matzs last 7 road starts and are 2-9 in Matzs last 11 starts vs. a team with a winning record. Phillies are 14-2 in their last 16 home games vs. a left-handed starter. |

05-10-18 | Cardinals -131 v. Padres | Top | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 9 h 14 m | Show |
Cardinals Miles Mikolas will pitch at San Diego's Petco Park on Thursday for the first time since he was a member of the Padres in 2012 and 2013. The right-hander is thriving in his return to the major leagues as he takes the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of their four-game series against San Diego. Mikolas made 27 relief appearances for the Padres before spending part of 2014 with Texas and then pitching in Japan the past three seasons. The 29-year-old received a two-year, $15.5 million contract from the Cardinals over the winter, and the investment has looked good in the early going as Mikolas is sporting a stellar 4-0 record through six starts. PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Miles Mikolas (4-0, 2.70 ERA) vs. Padres RH Jordan Lyles (0-0, 3.66) Mikolas defeated the Chicago Cubs in his last turn as he gave up seven hits over seven scoreless innings. A seventh-round pick of the Padres in the 2009 draft, Mikolas hasn't walked a batter in any of his last three turns and has issued just two against 31 strikeouts in 40 frames. Lyles will make his first start of the season after making 13 relief appearances. The 27-year-old is replacing Bryan Mitchell in the rotation after holding opposing batters to a .194 average in 19 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Lyles is 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA in six career appearances (two starts) against St. Louis and has struggled with Dexter Fowler (3-for-6, homer, four walks). Cardinals 3B Jedd Gyorko is a scorching 18-for-36 with seven homers and 16 RBIs in 10 games against the Padres, the team for which he played from 2013-15. Cardinals are 14-3 in their last 17 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game. Padres are 3-12 in their last 15 home games vs. a right-handed starter. Cardinals are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in San Diego. |

05-10-18 | Nationals v. Diamondbacks -131 | Top | 2-1 | Loss | -131 | 9 h 46 m | Show |
Diamondbacks The slumping Bryce Harper received a night off to refresh but will be back in the starting lineup when the Washington Nationals visit the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday for the opener of their four-game series. Harper sat out Wednesday's 2-1 setback against San Diego after matching his career-worst stretch of 19 straight hitless at-bats. PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Tanner Roark (2-3, 3.65 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (3-2, 4.10) Roark matched his season high of nine strikeouts in his last turn against Philadelphia but allowed three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss. The 31-year-old has given up six or fewer hits in all seven of his starts while holding opposing batters to a .203 average. Roark is 2-2 with a 3.02 ERA in nine career appearances (six starts) versus Arizona. Greinke settled for a no-decision against Houston in his last turn despite giving up one run and five hits over 5 2/3 innings. The 34-year-old walked a season-worst two batters but has issued just six free passes while striking out 47 in 41 2/3 frames. Greinke has thrived against Washington, posting a 5-1 record and 1.49 ERA in seven career starts, and has kept Harper in the ballpark in a small sample size (1-for-4, two strikeouts, two walks). Nationals are 0-6 in Roarks last 6 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance. Diamondbacks are 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter and are 9-2 in their last 11 games following a loss. |

05-10-18 | Red Sox v. Yankees -138 | Top | 5-4 | Loss | -138 | 6 h 5 m | Show |
Yankees The Boston Red Sox used a 17-1 stretch to seize early control of the American League East, but the New York Yankees have utilized an identical surge to take over the top spot. The first-place Yankees look to make it 18 of 19 and complete a three-game sweep of the Red Sox when the American League East rivals meet Thursday in the Bronx. Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge combined for six hits, six runs and five RBIs, including four on consecutive hits - Gardner's two-run triple and Judge's two-run homer - against Boston closer Craig Kimbrel in an eighth-inning rally that lifted New York to a 9-6 victory Wednesday night. PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0, 5.29 ERA) vs. Yankees LH CC Sabathia (2-0, 1.39) Rodriguez posted three straight quality starts in the middle of April but has given up five runs in each of his last two outings. He struck out 10 in six frames but served up three home runs in his last start Saturday at Texas. Sabathia is 2-0 with a 0.39 ERA in four starts since coming off the disabled list April 19, including six scoreless innings and a season-high seven strikeouts against Cleveland on Friday. He has lasted four straight starts without allowing a home run and has issued only three walks over his last five outings. The 37-year-old, who is 17-13 with a 4.12 ERA lifetime versus the Red Sox, has controlled matters against Hanley Ramirez (2-for-22), Xander Bogaerts (4-for-28) and Andrew Benintendi (2-for-11). Judge is 10-for-19 with two homers and five RBIs against Boston this year. Red Sox are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. American League East. Yankees are 10-2 in their last 12 home games vs. a left-handed starter and are 17-4 in Sabathias last 21 home starts. |

05-09-18 | Nationals -130 v. Padres | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -130 | 10 h 55 m | Show |
Nationals The streaking Washington Nationals look to win for the 10th time in 11 games when they conclude their three-game series against the host San Diego Padres on Wednesday. The Nationals have won the first two games of the set by a total of seven runs after posting a 4-0 triumph on Tuesday. The Padres have been shut out in two of their last five games - the first being a combined no-hitter by the Los Angeles Dodgers - and five times overall. Eric Hosmer is hitless in eight at-bats in the series and just 2-for-17 over his last five contests, with the hits being home runs. PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (4-2, 2.33 ERA) vs. Padres LH Joey Lucchesi (3-2, 3.13) Gonzalez has won back-to-back starts and three of his last four. The 32-year-old has allowed fewer than two runs in four of his turns and has served up just one homer in 38 2/3 innings. Gonzalez is 3-2 with a 3.50 ERA in six career starts against the Padres and has allowed two homers to Freddy Galvis (11-for-42), who was with Philadelphia at the time. Lucchesi lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last outing as he gave up three runs and five hits over five innings. The 24-year-old rookie has lost two of his last three starts, serving up four home runs during the stretch. Lucchesi has issued nine free passes over 15 2/3 frames during the three-outing span. Nationals are 9-1 in their last 10 overall. Padres are 1-7 in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning record. Padres are 7-20 in their last 27 games with DiMuro behind home plate. |

05-02-18 | Brewers -103 v. Reds | Top | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 8 h 48 m | Show |
Brewers A visit to the worst pitching staff in the majors was all it took to snap the Milwaukee Brewers out of a wretched offensive slump. After mustering only two runs in a four-game sweep at the Chicago Cubs, the Brewers have a chance to close their nine-game road trip with a sweep of their own in Wednesday night's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds. Travis Shaw belted a two-run homer and Jesús Aguilar and Hernan Perez added solo shots as Milwaukee followed up Monday's 6-5 victory by holding on for a 7-6 win 24 hours later. The Brewers have five homers and eight extra-base hits in the first two games of the series, including a two-run double by Ryan Braun that put them ahead for good Tuesday. Struggling Reds right-hander Luis Castillo, whose lone win came at Milwaukee on April 16 despite allowing four runs, will face left-hander Wade Miley on Wednesday night. PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers LH Wade Miley (2017: 8-15, 5.61 ERA) vs. Reds RH Luis Castillo (1-3, 7.85) Miley signed a minor-league deal with Milwaukee after finishing with a career-worst 15 defeats in 2017, including losses in all five starts in September. The 31-year-old, called up to take the rotation spot of Brent Suter, struck out 11 batters over six scoreless innings in his final rehab start at Double-A. Castillo's ugly season hit a low point when he lasted only one inning last time out and was pummeled for five runs and six hits at Minnesota while failing to strike out a batter for the first time. It also marked the first time Castillo has failed to go five innings, although he has permitted at least three runs in each turn. Brewers are 10-1 in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and are 14-6 in their last 20 road games vs. a right-handed starter. Reds are 4-17 in their last 21 home games and are 2-12 in their last 14 home games vs. a left-handed starter. Road team is 5-1 in Winters' last 6 games behind home plate. Back the Brewers here on the road. |

04-24-18 | Angels v. Astros -142 | Top | 8-7 | Loss | -142 | 9 h 44 m | Show |
Astros The Houston Astros get their first look at Shohei Ohtani when the Japanese two-way sensation starts on the mound for the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Ohtani departed his last turn after two innings due to a blister on his pitching hand and insisted all along that he would make the start against the defending World Series champions. The Astros had their six-game winning streak halted in Monday's opener of the three-game set as they were blanked 2-0 and managed just four hits in seven innings against Los Angeles starter Tyler Skaggs. The Angels, who are a stellar 10-1 on the road, are just a one-half game behind Houston in the American League West despite winning just two of their last seven contests. Morton leads the AL in ERA and has struck out 33 batters in 25 innings. The 34-year-old, who has given up just 16 hits and six walks, is coming off a victory in which he blanked Seattle on three hits over seven frames. Morton is 3-0 with a 3.14 ERA in five career starts against the Angels and has handled Zack Cozart (1-for-14) and Mike Trout (2-for-11). The Astros outscored the opposition 47-6 during their six-game winning streak and have allowed just 10 runs over their last eight contests. Angels are 3-9 in their last 12 vs. a team with a winning record. Astros are 9-3 in Mortons last 12 starts vs. a team with a winning record. Astros are 5-0 in their last 5 games with Cooper behind home plate. |

04-21-18 | Mets -149 v. Braves | Top | 3-4 | Loss | -149 | 6 h 25 m | Show |
Mets One night after rolling out star pitcher Noah Syndergaard in Friday’s 5-3, 12-inning road victory over the Atlanta Braves, the visiting New York Mets hand the ball to another standout Saturday as Jacob deGrom gets the nod for the third game of the series. The Mets bounced back from Thursday’s series-opening loss, getting Yoenis Cespedes to shake off a four-strikeout night with the go-ahead single in the 12th inning for New York’s 19th victory in its past 26 games in Atlanta. Syndergaard and deGrom are two reasons why New York is off to a 14-5 start and leads the National League East, but so too is second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera, who doubled twice Friday to give him eight two-base hits through 19 games and a .347 batting average. Atlanta is off to a surprising 11-8 start, but its relievers have walked 54 hitters in 75 innings and hit New York pitcher Robert Gsellman with a pitch leading off the 12th - putting the eventual winning run on base. PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Jacob deGrom (2-0, 3.24 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (1-1, 5.40) DeGrom has been outstanding in his first four starts this season and, even though he did not get a decision in Monday’s loss to Washington, he struck out 12 and walked only one while allowing three runs in 7 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old is averaging 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings with a 1.08 WHIP while holding opponents to a .226 batting average. DeGrom is 5-3 in 11 career starts with a 2.19 ERA against Atlanta and has allowed one earned run or fewer in seven of those outings. Teheran looks to build off his last start, a home victory over Philadelphia in which he struck out nine while allowing one run on five hits over six innings. The 27-year-old has relied more on his slider and changeup in his past two starts, after giving up nine runs on 10 hits (including four homers) across eight innings in his first two starts. Teheran went 1-2 with a 3.26 ERA in five starts a season ago vs. the Mets. Mets are 7-1 in their last 8 road games. Braves are 3-10 in Teherans last 13 Saturday starts. Mets are 4-0 in deGroms last 4 road starts vs. Braves. Braves are 1-4 in Teherans last 5 home starts vs. Mets. |

04-20-18 | Red Sox -129 v. A's | Top | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 9 h 44 m | Show |
Red Sox Since losing their season opener, the Boston Red Sox have gone on to win 16 of 17 contests and sport the best record in the major leagues. Boston looks to extend its winning streak to eight games when it visits the Oakland Athletics on Friday for the opener of their three-game series. The Red Sox kicked off their nine-game road trip with a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels during which they scored 27 runs while allowing only three and belted 11 homers. PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Drew Pomeranz (2017: 17-6, 3.32 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Kendall Graveman (0-3, 9.87) Pomeranz will be making his season debut after recovering from the forearm strain he suffered in his first start this spring. The 29-year-old native of Tennessee is coming off a career year in which he recorded 17 victories and led the major leagues with 23 starts in which he allowed fewer than three runs. Pomeranz has given up three runs - two earned - over 10 innings while notching one victory in two career turns against Oakland, his employers for two seasons (2014-15). Graveman's season has gotten off to a rough start as he has surrendered five runs in three of his four outings and served up a total of six homers in 17 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old from Alabama, who has yet to work more than five frames, yielded five runs and eight hits over four innings in a loss at Seattle on Saturday. Red Sox are 8-1 in Pomeranzs last 9 starts after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game. Athletics are 3-12 in Gravemans last 15 starts vs. a team with a winning record. |

04-20-18 | Cubs +103 v. Rockies | Top | 16-5 | Win | 103 | 7 h 21 m | Show |
Cubs After showing signs of getting their offense going, the Chicago Cubs will be eager to get to Coors Field for a three-game series that begins on Friday. After seven contests on the road, the Colorado Rockies also will welcome a return to their hitter-happy confines. The Rockies went 5-2 on their road trip that featured stops in Washington and Pittsburgh, but the offense sputtered at times, scoring just two runs on four different occasions. They didn’t swing the bats much better in their first homestand of the season as they went 2-4 and produced three or fewer runs four times. Colorado will turn to Jon Gray to try to shut down Chicago’s feast-or-famine offense, which broke out for 14 hits in an 8-5 win over St. Louis on Thursday. The Cubs counter with Kyle Hendricks, who has recorded quality starts in three of his four career turns at Coors Field. Gray has been roughed up in three of his first four starts to begin the season, although he was able to limit the damage until the sixth inning in his last outing. The 26-year-old has been hit hard the third time through the order, allowing opponents to post a .524 average. Gray will be facing the Cubs for the first time in his career. Cubs are 28-7 in their last 35 road games vs. a right-handed starter. Rockies are 2-8 in Grays last 10 starts with 5 days of rest. |

04-12-18 | Cardinals -137 v. Reds | Top | 13-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 10 m | Show |
Cardinals The St. Louis Cardinals scored 29 runs while splitting their season-opening six-game road trip before being limited to just 18 while dropping four of six on their recent homestand. After going 9-for-43 with runners in scoring position at Busch Stadium, the Cardinals look to reignite their offense on Thursday as they open a four-game series versus the host Cincinnati Reds. PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Michael Wacha (1-1, 5.59 ERA) vs. Reds RH Sal Romano (0-1, 5.73) Wacha was able to minimize the damage of issuing five walks over five innings to even his record with a 5-3 victory against Arizona on Saturday. The 26-year-old kept the ball in the park after being taken deep on two occasions during his season-opening loss at the New York Mets on March 31. Wacha posted a 2-0 record and 1.50 ERA in two starts versus Cincinnati last season. Romano is bidding for his first win of the season after being taken deep twice in his season debut on April 1 and permitting four runs in five innings of a no-decision at Pittsburgh on Saturday. The 24-year-old admittedly has struggled with his off-speed pitches this year and lamented the effectiveness of his sinker against the Pirates. Romano owns a 5-9 record and 4.59 ERA in 18 career starts heading into his first turn versus St. Louis. Cardinals are 21-7 in Wachas last 28 starts vs. a team with a losing record. Reds are 3-13 in their last 16 games vs. a right-handed starter and are 1-9 in their last 10 home games. Cardinals are 11-1 in Wachas last 12 starts vs. Reds. |

03-30-18 | Rockies +133 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 8-9 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 29 m | Show |
Rockies PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies LH Tyler Anderson (2017: 6-6, 4.81 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks LH Robbie Ray (2017: 15-5, 2.89) Anderson's 2017 season was interrupted by left knee surgery, but he finished strong upon his return, going 3-1 with a 1.19 ERA in four appearances (three starts). The 28-year-old native of Las Vegas was especially impressive in the victories as he struck out 12 batters and walked only two while scattering seven hits over 17 scoreless innings. Anderson has yet to lose to Arizona, going 2-0 with a 4.85 ERA and 34 strikeouts over 26 frames in six career games (four starts). Ray registered more victories last year than in his first three major-league seasons combined (14) and led the National League with a rate of 12.11 strikeouts per nine innings while limiting opponents to a .199 batting average. The 26-year-old Tennessean suffered his last loss of the campaign on July 23, going 6-0 with a 2.20 ERA over his final nine starts. Ray owns a 2-3 record and 5.21 ERA in nine career turns against the Rockies. Rockies are 10-4 in their last 14 games with Cooper behind home plate. |

03-29-18 | Brewers -115 v. Padres | Top | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 3 h 32 m | Show |
Brewers The Milwaukee Brewers are aiming to end a six-year playoff drought as they visit the San Diego Padres in Thursday's season opener. While the Brewers are looking to build on last year's 86-win season, San Diego is striving for respectability after signing free-agent first baseman Eric Hosmer. The Brewers vastly improved their outfield by adding Lorenzo Cain (Hosmer's former Kansas City teammate) and Christian Yelich (from Miami). Anderson is coming off a career best for victories and had a solid .220 batting average against in 25 starts last season and manager Craig Counsell said he will be even better this season. Anderson is 3-1 with a 3.99 ERA in eight career starts versus the Padres and is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in three outings at Petco Park. Richard was shelled for six runs and 10 hits in six innings while taking the loss in his lone 2017 outing against the Brewers. Padres are 0-4 in Richards last 4 starts vs. Brewers. |

03-29-18 | Angels -120 v. A's | Top | 5-6 | Loss | -120 | 2 h 17 m | Show |
Angels The Los Angeles Angels have added several pieces to their lineup in order help superstar Mike Trout, and one of those is hoping to make an impact as a two-way player. Japanese star Shohei Ohtani is expected to make his major-league debut on Thursday afternoon as the Angels visit the Oakland Athletics for the first contest of their season-opening four-game series. After recording a career-high 15 victories in 2015, Richards has notched a total of one while make only six starts each of the last two seasons due to arm injuries. The 29-year-old Californian had a solid spring, allowing four runs and eight hits while registering 14 strikeouts over 12 2/3 innings in four starts. Richards, who is making his second career Opening Day start, is 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA in 16 career appearances (12 starts) against Oakland. Graveman makes his second career Opening Day start after also getting the call against Los Angeles last season. The 27-year-old native of Alabama struggled this spring, surrendering 12 runs and 18 hits over 14 1/3 innings after being limited to 19 turns last season due to injuries. Los Angeles 1B/DH Albert Pujols owns a .433 lifetime average against Graveman with three homers and 10 RBIs. |

03-29-18 | Twins +112 v. Orioles | Top | 2-3 | Loss | -100 | 1 h 17 m | Show |
Twins The Minnesota Twins made a surprising run to a wild-card spot in the American League last season and are looking for more with a maturing young roster. The Twins will try to get off to a strong start when they open 2018 by visiting the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday. Minnesota added some thump to the lineup with slugger Logan Morrison, who hit 38 home runs for Tampa Bay in 2017, and bolstered the rotation with the additions of Jake Odorizzi and Lance Lynn. Minnesota acquired Odorizzi from the Tampa Bay Rays at the beginning of spring training and took the Opening Day honor over Kyle Gibson and Jose Berrios. The 28-year-old went 2-0 with a 3.10 ERA in four starts against Baltimore last season, striking out 21 in 20 1/3 total innings. Bundy will be making his first Opening Day start as well after making it through his first full season as a starter in 2017. The 25-year-old lost both of his starts against the Twins last season, serving up a total of eight runs on 11 hits and five walks in 12 innings. Minnesota won five of the seven meetings last season. |

10-31-17 | Astros +115 v. Dodgers | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 21 m | Show |
Astros Justin Verlander was acquired to bolster Houston's starting pitching for a postseason run and the veteran right-hander has a chance to pitch the Astros to their first World Series title when he faces the host Los Angeles Dodgers in Tuesday's Game 6. Verlander received a no-decision in Game 2 and has never won a World Series game, going 0-3 with a 6.43 in four career starts with the Detroit Tigers and Houston. The 34-year-old Verlander has more than done his job since joining the Astros - he is 9-0 with a 1.53 ERA in 10 total appearances (nine starts) - but fully understands one more big outing is needed. Houston is in position to clinch after Sunday's 13-12, 10-inning victory, the second wild game of a World Series featuring a record 22 homers. Hill was the recipient of a quick hook from manager Dave Roberts despite giving up one run and three hits and striking out seven in four innings in Game 2. Roberts hinted that Hill will have a longer leash in Game 6 and the 37-year-old proclaims himself ready for the task. Astros are 7-1 in their last 8 interleague road games vs. a left-handed starter and are 9-0 in Verlanders last 9 starts. Dodgers are 1-4 in Hills last 5 starts following a team loss in their previous game. |

10-24-17 | Astros +157 v. Dodgers | Top | 1-3 | Loss | -100 | 9 h 28 m | Show |
Astros The Los Angeles Dodgers haven't won a World Series since 1988, while the Houston Astros have never been crowned champions in their 56-season history. The teams begin their attempts to end their respective droughts when Los Angeles ace Clayton Kershaw pitches against Houston's Dallas Keuchel in Game 1 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers are in the World Series for the first time since their memorable 1988 slaying of the Oakland Athletics, a series best known for limping Kirk Gibson's decisive Game 1 homer. The Astros lost to the Chicago White Sox in the 2005 World Series and this season's 101-win squad knocked out the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees to reach the Series. The Dodgers, who won 104 regular-season games, rolled through the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs with standout third baseman Justin Turner excelling by going 12-for-31 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in the eight games. PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros LH Dallas Keuchel (2-1, 2.60 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 3.63 ERA) Keuchel has struck out 25 in 17 1/3 innings over three starts this October and is a solid 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA in six career postseason appearances (five starts). The 29-year-old former Cy Young Award winner scanned the Dodgers' lineup and had no trouble anointing it as the best he'll face all season. "Just seems like production top to bottom, even some of their extra guys, has been there all year," Keuchel said at his Monday press conference. "They are going to be the deepest team we played, hands down. My job is to go out there and get the job done." Kershaw has served up six homers in three starts this postseason but his career ledger has improved to 6-7 with a 4.40 ERA in 21 appearances (17 starts). The 29-year-old three-time Cy Young winner is 3-2 with a 2.38 ERA in eight career starts against the Astros and has experienced struggles with Astros star second baseman Jose Altuve (6-for-15, four doubles). "He hits everything pretty well. I think he's super aggressive but at the same time he hits a lot of pitches," Kershaw said of Altuve during his Monday press conference. "... He's a tough out. I think he's one of the toughest outs in the game. You just can't give in to him." Astros are 6-0 in their last 6 interleague road games vs. a left-handed starter. Dodgers are 5-11 in their last 16 vs. American League West. Astros are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings. |

10-20-17 | Yankees +133 v. Astros | Top | 1-7 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 16 m | Show |
Yankees The Houston Astros left home a few days ago feeling very good about their chances to win the American League pennant and advance to the second World Series in franchise history, but returned home with a very different feeling. The Astros will try to stay alive one more day and force a decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series when they host the New York Yankees in Game 6 on Friday. Houston won the first two games at home but totaled only nine runs in the series after leading the majors in scoring with 896 runs during the regular season, and it is looking for more from George Springer (2-for-18 in the series) and Josh Reddick (0-for-17) at home in Game 6. The Yankees finally found their offense at home while winning all three games, and are starting to get production from Aaron Judge (4-for-9, two homers, six RBIs in the last three games) and Gary Sanchez, who drove in five runs in the last two contests. Houston is 4-for-27 with runners in scoring position in the series. Severino is hoping to go deeper into Game 6 after being lifted from Game 2 following the fourth inning, when he struggled to get loose and was hit in the wrist by a comebacker. Severino surrendered a solo home run to Carlos Correa in that outing and was strong in his lone AL Division Series appearance, yielding three runs and four hits in seven innings against Cleveland. Verlander went up against Severino in Game 2 and earned the win while hurling a 124-pitch complete game. The former AL MVP yielded one run and five hits while striking out 13 and walking one to earn his third win in as many 2017 postseason appearances. Yankees are 15-3 in Severinos last 18 starts. Road team is 4-1 in Reynolds' last 5 Friday games behind home plate vs. New York. |

10-19-17 | Dodgers -155 v. Cubs | Top | 11-1 | Win | 100 | 9 h 49 m | Show |
Dodgers The Chicago Cubs have won five straight games when their backs were against the wall dating to last year’s World Series, and they’ll try to make it six on Thursday. The Cubs will try to stave off elimination for a second consecutive night by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers at home and sending the National League Championship Series back to California. Kershaw is 5-7 with a 4.57 ERA in 20 career games (16 starts) in the postseason. He split two starts against the Cubs in last year’s NLCS and allowed two runs over five innings in a no-decision in Game 1 of this matchup. Surprisingly, the ace has started only one series-clincher, throwing six scoreless frames to beat Atlanta in the 2013 NL Division Series. Quintana has been excellent in his first postseason, allowing three runs - two earned - over 11 1/3 innings in two starts and a relief appearance. He gave up two runs and two hits over five frames in Game 1 and left with the contest tied. Quintana went 5-0 with a lofty 4.76 ERA in eight turns at Wrigley Field during the regular season. If the Cubs are going to live another day, someone other than Wade Davis will have to close out Game 5, as the right-hander recorded six outs on Wednesday for his second multi-inning save of the postseason. Dodgers relievers have pitched 20 consecutive scoreless innings and given up only three hits in the series. Dodgers are 6-1 in their last 7 playoff games. Cubs are 4-11 in their last 15 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win. The Dodgers move on to the World Series! |

10-18-17 | Astros v. Yankees +104 | Top | 0-5 | Win | 104 | 6 h 11 m | Show |
Yankees The New York Yankees will take another crack at Houston Astros ace Dallas Keuchel when the teams tangle in a critical Game 5 of their American League Championship Series at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. A two-run seventh inning and four-run eighth propelled New York to a stirring 6-4 comeback victory in Game 4 on Tuesday, knotting the best-of-seven matchup at two wins apiece. Slugger Aaron Judge, limited to one single in seven at-bats in back-to-back losses at Houston, is 3-for-6 with five RBIs in the two games in the Bronx after beginning the comeback with a solo homer and delivering the game-tying RBI double in the eighth. Judge has collected nine RBIs in five home games during the playoffs and zero in five contests on the road. PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros LH Dallas Keuchel (2-0, 0.71 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (1-1, 1.38) Keuchel is 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA in five career postseason games (four starts) and struck out 10 Yankees in the series-opening win. Both of this year's playoff outings have taken place at home, but the 2015 AL Cy Young Award winner was much more human on the road during the regular season - going 5-5 with a 4.24 ERA and allowing opponents to produce a .720 OPS, compared to .513 at home. Keuchel's last appearance away from home in the playoffs was in relief in Game 5 of the ALDS in 2015, when he was tagged for three runs in one inning. Like Keuchel, Tanaka has had better fortune at home, and he finished the regular season by going 5-1 with a 1.29 ERA over a six-start stretch at Yankee Stadium. The 28-year-old has given up two runs and seven hits - no home runs - over 13 innings this postseason. New York has won 18 of its last 21 games at home dating back to the regular season. |

Yankees The New York Yankees woke up offensively just in time on their home field and hope to build on a big night when the Houston Astros visit for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday. The Yankees managed only two runs while losing the first two games but exploded for eight runs in the first four innings on Monday before going on to post a critical 8-1 triumph. Sonny Gray will try to help the Yankees even the series and keep Jose Altuve under control as the AL batting champion is 11-for-30 lifetime against him and hitting .481 with three homers in the postseason. Houston will counter with Lance McCullers Jr., who struck out 132 batters over 118 2/3 innings during the regular season but is looking for his first victory since June 24. The Astros, who led the majors in several offensive categories this campaign and averaged six runs along with 12.3 hits in the AL Division Series, have managed five runs and 15 hits over the first three games against the Yankees. The Yankees' bullpen has limited opponents to a .162 batting average while posting a 2.13 ERA in the postseason despite giving up a ninth-inning run in Game 3. Astros are 1-7 in McCullers last 8 starts. Yankees are 4-0 in their last 4 home playoff games. |

The New York Yankees will try to turn the tide in their favor when they host Game 3 on Monday. 10-12-17 | Cubs -105 v. Nationals | Top | 9-8 | Win | 100 | 9 h 37 m | Show |
Cubs With an assist from the weather, the Washington Nationals have forced a winner-take-all matchup against the visiting Chicago Cubs on Thursday in their National League Division Series. Stephen Strasburg’s stellar start in Washington’s 5-0 win in Game 4 on Wednesday sent the series back to the nation’s capital and left the Nationals with plenty of flexibility with their pitching staff. PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (1-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. TBA Hendricks outdueled Strasburg in Game 1, allowing two hits and three walks while registering six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings. The 27-year-old has gotten the ball for the Cubs’ last two series clinchers – Game 6 of last year’s NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Game 7 of the World Series versus Cleveland. He is 2-1 with a 1.98 ERA in eight postseason starts. Baker told reporters after Game 4 he is “not sure yet” who will start on Thursday and his decision will be based on who is the best fit but now Gonzalez will start. He allowed three runs and three hits over five innings in Game 2 as the Nationals got him off the hook with a late rally. Roark, who will be first up to pitch if Gonzalez struggles has not started since Sept. 27 and gave up eight runs in 5 2/3 frames over his last two regular-season appearances (one start). Cubs are 6-1 in Hendricks' last 7 starts vs. National League East and are 8-2 in Hendricks' last 10 starts after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game. Nationals are 5-13 in Gonzalezs last 18 starts vs. National League Central. Nationals are 1-4 in Gonzalezs last 5 starts vs. Cubs. |

Cubs The Chicago Cubs gave Jake Arrieta a few extra days to rest his tender hamstring, and with the rain out yesterday now he’s in a position to help get the team back to the National League Championship Series. Arrieta gets the ball in Game 4 of the NL Division Series on Tuesday as the Cubs look to close out the visiting Washington Nationals. Anthony Rizzo’s bloop single in the eighth inning plated the go-ahead run Monday as the Cubs posted a 2-1 victory in Game 3 to regain the series lead. Arrieta can close it out as he makes his first start since Sept. 26, and the 2015 NL Cy Young Award winner says his nagging right hamstring injury is a “non-issue.” He hopes to follow the rest of Chicago's starting rotation, which has allowed two runs - one earned - in 18 2/3 innings over the first three games of the series. Cubs RHP Wade Davis improved to 6-for-6 in save opportunities in the postseason with Monday’s save and has posted a 0.79 ERA in 25 career playoff games. Nationals are 1-4 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning record. Cubs are 8-2 in their last 10 Divisional Playoff games and are 5-0 in Arrietas last 5 starts during game 4 of a series. |

10-06-17 | Cubs v. Nationals -150 | Top | 3-0 | Loss | -150 | 7 h 39 m | Show |
Nationals The man who took the ball to start the Chicago Cubs’ World Series clincher gets it again Friday. The Cubs send Kyle Hendricks to the mound opposite fellow right-hander Stephen Strasburg when visiting Chicago begins its quest for another crown in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Washington Nationals. PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (7-5, 3.03 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Stephen Strasburg (15-4, 2.52) Hendricks struggled early in the season, but he has posted an NL-best 2.19 ERA since returning from a hand injury July 24. The 27-year-old has allowed two or fewer runs in 10 of his 13 starts over that stretch, but he gave up three runs over seven innings in a loss to Washington on Aug. 4. Hendricks is 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA in seven postseason starts. Strasburg was dominant in 10 starts after the All-Star break, going 6-1 with a 0.86 ERA and 76 strikeouts over 62 2/3 innings. The 29-year-old allowed more than one run only twice over that span, and he hasn’t lost since Aug. 19. Strasburg has made only one postseason start - in the 2014 NLDS against San Francisco - and allowed two runs (one earned) over five innings in a tough-luck loss. The Nationals won four of seven meetings with the Cubs this season. Cubs are 1-5 in Hendricks' last 6 starts during game 1 of a series and are 0-5 in Hendricks' last 5 Friday starts. Nationals are 10-1 in Strasburgs last 11 starts vs. National League Central and are 45-11 in Strasburgs last 56 starts. Nationals are 4-1 in Strasburgs last 5 starts vs. Cubs. |

10-05-17 | Yankees v. Indians -135 | Top | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 9 h 37 m | Show |
Indians Terry Francona made liberal use of his bullpen weapons while guiding the Cleveland Indians to the World Series last season, and Joe Girardi took that philosophy a step further while guiding the New York Yankees to the American League Division Series with a win in the wild-card game Tuesday. Girardi will try to find a way to beat Francona and the best team in the AL when the Yankees visit the top-seeded Indians in Game 1 of the AL Division Series on Thursday. PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Sonny Gray (10-12, 3.55 ERA) vs. Indians RH Trevor Bauer (17-9, 4.19) Gray went 4-7 with a 3.72 ERA in 11 starts after being acquired from the Oakland Athletics prior to the trade deadline but struggled some in September, surrendering nine home runs in 35 1/3 innings. The Vanderbilt product, who lost at Cleveland in his New York debut on Aug. 3, was ripped for six runs on six hits - two homers - over 4 2/3 innings in his final regular-season outing on Saturday. Bauer aided the Indians' sprint to the finish by going 9-1 with a 2.42 ERA over his last 13 games (12 starts) and allowed two runs in 13 innings over his final two starts. Two of those 13 outings came against New York on Aug. 4 and Aug. 30, and the UCLA product breezed to wins in both by scattering two runs over 13 frames and striking out 11. Bauer, who gets the start over Cy Young candidate Kluber so that Kluber can come back on regular rest in a potential Game 5 or Game 1 of the ALCS, Yankees are 1-4 in Grays last 5 starts on grass. Indians are 7-1 in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning record and are 7-1 in Bauers last 8 starts with 5 days of rest. Yankees are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings. |

10-05-17 | Red Sox v. Astros -129 | Top | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 5 h 6 m | Show |
Astros The Houston Astros battled all the way into the final weekend in the race for the best record in the American League and fell just short, leaving them to host the third-seeded AL East champion Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of the AL Division Series on Thursday. The second-seeded Astros made the biggest move of the waiver deadline period by bringing in Justin Verlander from the Detroit Tigers and will send him to the mound in Game 1. PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Chris Sale (17-8, 2.90 ERA) vs. Astros RH Justin Verlander (15-8, 3.36) Sale went 3-4 with a 4.30 ERA over his final eight starts and struggled to keep the ball in the park at times, including his final start against Toronto on Sept. 26 in which he served up four home runs. The Florida native will be making his first career postseason start. Verlander earned his spot at the top of the Astros postseason rotation by going 5-0 with a 1.06 ERA in five starts since joining the team. The former MVP allowed four runs (three earned) in 12 innings over two starts against Boston earlier this season, though he did not factor in either decision. Red Sox are 1-5 in their last 6 Divisional Playoff road games and are 0-4 in Sales last 4 Thursday starts. Astros are 11-2 in their last 13 home games and are 5-0 in Verlanders last 5 starts. |

D’Backs Two teams make their long-awaited return to the postseason when the Colorado Rockies visit the Arizona Diamondbacks for a battle of National League West rivals in the NL Wild Card Game on Wednesday night. The Diamondbacks are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and had an 11-8 record this year against the Rockies, who make their first postseason appearance since 2009. Arizona went 52-29 at Chase Field this year and boast a powerful middle of the lineup as J.D. Martinez launched 29 homers in 62 games after being acquired from Detroit while Paul Goldschmidt knocked in 120 runs, PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Jon Gray (10-4, 3.67 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (17-7, 3.20) Gray became a key part of the rotation after the All-Star break while going 8-4 with a 3.65 ERA over 15 starts, and allowed seven runs across 30 innings in his last five outings. The 25-year-old Oklahoma native also struck out 10 to win at Arizona on June 30 and is 2-2 with a 4.75 ERA lifetime versus the Diamondbacks. Martinez is 2-for-6 with a pair of homers and David Peralta 6-for-13 with a triple against Gray. Greinke reached 17 victories for the third time in four seasons, but struggled in his last home start against Miami on Sept. 22 when he permitted eight runs over four innings. The 33-year-old Orlando native, who ended the regular season by limiting Kansas City to two runs over four innings Friday, is 9-5 lifetime against Colorado after going 2-1 with a 3.41 ERA in five outings this season. Rockies are 5-11 in Grays last 16 road starts vs. a team with a winning record. Diamondbacks are 11-2 in their last 13 vs. a team with a winning record and are 8-1 in Greinkes last 9 starts with 4 days of rest. |

09-26-17 | Cubs +103 v. Cardinals | Top | 7-8 | Loss | -100 | 6 h 24 m | Show |
Cubs Already having eliminated the rival St. Louis Cardinals from contention for the National League Central title, the Chicago Cubs can do further harm to the Cardinals’ wild-card hopes when the teams continue their four-game series Tuesday in St. Louis. The Cubs need one win or one Milwaukee loss to clinch their second straight NL Central crown. Chicago knocked St. Louis out of the division race with a 10-2 win in Monday’s opener, and the Cardinals are fading in the wild-card race, trailing Colorado by 2 1/2 games for the final playoff spot. The Cubs have won six straight against the Cardinals and lead the season series 12-4. Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta aims to continue his strong record against St. Louis – he is 8-3 with a 2.06 ERA in 16 meetings. Chicago has won 11 of its last 13 overall. Martinez was roughed up by the Cubs on Sept. 15 in Chicago, allowing seven runs in 5 1/3 innings and taking the loss. The 26-year-old Dominican bounced back to win his last start but did not have his best stuff and gave up four runs over 6 1/3 innings at Cincinnati. Martinez is 4-4 with a 4.55 ERA in 23 games (13 starts) against the Cubs. Cubs are 21-5 in their last 26 road games vs. a right-handed starter. Cardinals are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record. |

09-26-17 | Nationals -152 v. Phillies | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -152 | 5 h 15 m | Show |
Nationals Bryce Harper's month-and-a-half absence due to a knee injury was potentially extended an additional 24 hours by flu-like symptoms as the 2015 National League MVP sat out the opener of the Washington Nationals' three-game series against the host Philadelphia Phillies. Harper aims to return to the lineup for the first time since Aug. 12 on Tuesday as the Nationals vie their 24th win in their last 31 encounters versus the Phillies. Philadelphia. While the Nationals have won three in a row and six of their last eight as they gear up for the postseason, the cellar-dwelling Phillies have dropped four of five. Gonzalez improved to 7-2 in his last nine starts on Wednesday after allowing two runs on three hits in seven innings of a 7-3 victory at Atlanta. The 32-year-old surrendered two solo homers in that contest and has been taken deep five times in his last five outings. Gonzalez has yet to allow more than three earned runs in 12 career starts at Citizens Bank Park, and has gotten the better of Maikel Franco (1-for-19, four strikeouts), Aaron Altherr (1-for-15, six strikeouts) and Tommy Joseph (2-for-11). Nationals are 6-1 in Gonzalezs last 7 starts vs. a team with a losing record. Phillies are 0-5 in Thompsons last 5 starts during game 2 of a series. |

09-22-17 | Cardinals -145 v. Pirates | Top | 4-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 56 m | Show |
Cardinals The St. Louis Cardinals weren't shy with their offense as they scored 15 runs in their three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium earlier this month. Fresh off erupting for erupting for 25 runs in a three-game sweep of Cincinnati, the Cardinals aim to keep the offense churning versus the Pirates on Friday when the National League Central rivals meet at PNC Park. PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Michael Wacha (12-8, 4.02 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Ivan Nova (11-14, 4.20) Wacha saw his three-game winning streak come to a halt on Saturday after allowing three runs and five walks in 5 2/3 innings of a 4-1 loss to the Cubs. The 26-year-old held Pittsburgh in check in his last outing on Sept. 10, permitting five hits and striking out seven in eight scoreless innings in a 7-0 rout. Wacha owns a 2-1 mark with a 2.89 ERA in three starts versus the Pirates this season. Nova lost his fourth straight start on Saturday despite yielding two runs on three hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 2-1 setback at Cincinnati. The 30-year-old Dominican may be in the midst of a difficult stretch, but Friday's start - his 30th of the season - will be a profitable one as he will receive a $750,000 bonus as part of an incentive in his contract. Nova's lone win in his last seven starts came at the expense of St. Louis on Aug. 20, when he allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings of a 6-3 triumph. |

09-22-17 | Rays -106 v. Orioles | Top | 8-3 | Win | 100 | 8 h 56 m | Show |
Rays The Baltimore Orioles expected to be preparing for a playoff run in late September, but instead they are battling for third place in the American League East when the Tampa Bay Rays pay a visit for the second of a four-game set Friday night. The Orioles earned a 3-1 victory in the series opener Thursday and are 5 ½ games out in the race for the AL’s second wild card - one-half game behind the Rays - with just over a week to go. PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Alex Cobb (11-10, 3.63 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Ubaldo Jimenez (6-10, 6.57) Cobb gave up nine runs total in his last six starts, but managed just a 2-3 record during that stretch without completing more than six innings in any outing. Nationals The Washington Nationals still have something to play for over the final 11 contests of the regular season and look to complete a three-game sweep of the host Atlanta Braves on Thursday. The National League East champions have crept within 3 ½ games of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in the NL with three straight victories and could be getting back slugger Bryce Harper soon. Roark has strung together four consecutive quality starts and has posted four wins in his last five outings, striking out 39 during that stretch. The 30-year-old Illinois product, who is 7-3 since July 1 after going 1-4 in June, owns a 3.84 ERA on the road as opposed to a 4.90 mark at home. Dickey is winless in his last three starts, allowing 17 runs - 16 earned - and 22 hits with eight walks over 14 1/3 innings in that span. The 42-year-old knuckleballer, who has a 119-118 lifetime record, needs one triumph to reach double digits in victories for the sixth straight season and seventh overall. Jayson Werth (13-for-29, two homers) and Ryan Zimmerman (15-for-42, four) have caused trouble for Dickey, who is 4-9 against Washington in his career. Nationals are 8-2 in their last 10 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and are 11-4 in Roarks last 15 starts following a Quality Start in his last appearance. Blue Jays After unleashing some offensive frustration to halt a three-game skid, the Kansas City Royals will go for a series win against the host Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday in the rubber match of a three-game series. Kansas City used an eight-run second inning en route to a 15-5 win on Wednesday night to close within 3 1/2 games of the American League's second wild card. Happ (9-10, 3.76) Vargas halted his second-half spiral by winning his last two starts, although he went five innings in each and hasn't resembled the pitcher who was 12-3 on June 30. He gave up three runs at Cleveland on Friday after limiting Minnesota to one run on four hits in his previous turn. Vargas is 3-3 with a 4.96 ERA against the Blue Jays. Happ is coming on strong after starting the season by losing his first four decisions and not earning his first victory until June 11. He has surrendered a total of five earned runs in winning each of his last three starts to move closer to a sixth season with double-digit victories. Brandon Moss is 8-for-16 versus Happ, who pitched 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball against the Royals on June 23. Royals are 1-5 in their last 6 games following a win. Indians The Los Angeles Angels are sliding downward at an inopportune time and look to rebound against the visiting Cleveland Indians on Wednesday in the middle contest of their three-game series. The Angels dropped a 5-2 decision in the opener for their seventh setback in 11 games and missed out on the chance to gain ground on Minnesota in the race for the second American League wild-card spot. The 32-year-old has posted a 2.39 ERA over his last five turns, giving up fewer than three runs in each of the outings. Tomlin is 2-2 with a 4.09 ERA in five career starts versus the Angels, and his lone career outing at Angel Stadium occurred in 2010, when he gave up three runs and three hits in six innings during a no-decision. The 34-year-old is 3-6 with a 4.84 ERA in 15 home starts and has allowed 12 homers at Angel Stadium compared to 22 on the road. Indians The Los Angeles Angels face a tall task when they try to keep their American League wild card hopes alive against the visiting Cleveland Indians in a three-game series beginning Tuesday. The Indians are winners of 24 of their last 25 games and are busy trying to secure the best record in the AL ahead of the playoffs. PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Mike Clevinger (10-5, 3.21 ERA) vs. Angels LH Tyler Skaggs (2-5, 4.37) Clevinger fits right in with Cleveland's success over the last four weeks and is riding a streak of four straight wins, during which he surrendered a total of one earned run. The 26-year-old Florida native had a string of three straight scoreless outings come to an end Wednesday, when he was reached for three runs - one earned - and six hits in 5 2/3 innings while earning a win over Detroit. Skaggs earned his first win since April 22 on Wednesday against Houston, scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings and striking out five. The 26-year-old Californian recorded a quality start in each of his last two outings after failing to complete six frames in any of his previous four turns. Skaggs is seeing Cleveland for the first time this season and is 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA in two previous starts against the Indians. Indians are 6-0 in their last 6 road games vs. a left-handed starter and are 9-1 in their last 10 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. Brewers Although they are officially listed as the visiting team due to the damage inflicted in Florida by Hurricane Irma, the Milwaukee Brewers took advantage of the cozy confines of Miller Park to stay on a roll. The Brewers have won three in a row and six of seven entering the second of a three-game set against the reeling Miami Marlins. PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Zach Davies (17-8, 3.67 ERA) vs. Marlins LH Adam Conley (6-7, 5.23) Davies has posted nine quality starts in his last 11 appearances and is coming off another impressive performance, earning his third win over his last four turns after holding the reigning world champion Cubs to one run over seven innings Sunday. Conley escaped with a no-decision last Saturday at Atlanta despite getting tagged for four runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings, running his winless streak to four starts. He has struggled to keep the ball in the park over the past seven weeks, yielding 11 of his 15 homers over his last nine starts. Ryan Braun is 5-for-9 against Conley. Brewers are 9-1 in Davies' last 10 starts after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game. Marlins are 0-7 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record. |

09-15-17 | Diamondbacks -154 v. Giants | Top | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 10 h 7 m | Show |
D’Backs Riding one of the most dominant stretches any pitcher can hope for, left-hander Robbie Ray looks to win his fifth consecutive start when the Arizona Diamondbacks open a three-game series at the San Francisco Giants on Friday night. Ray has been outstanding during his winning streak, allowing four runs on 13 hits while striking out 45 in 25 1/3 innings. Arizona's offense, led by A.J. Pollock and J.D. Martinez, also came alive in taking the final two contests against Colorado to boost its lead atop the wild-card race to five games with 15 to play. PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks LH Robbie Ray (13-5, 2.81 ERA) vs. Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (9-13, 4.47) Ray continued his spectacular late season surge by fanning 12 - his third straight game with double-digit strikeouts - while giving up two runs on four hits over six innings versus San Diego last time out. He earned his first win of the year in his second appearance against San Francisco this season on April 11, giving up four hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. Samardzija absorbed his first loss in nearly a month when he was tagged for six runs, including four home runs, over 5 2/3 innings at the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 9. That spoiled a stretch in which he had registered seven quality starts in his previous eight turns, posting a 5-1 record in that span. That included 6 1/3 innings of three-run ball against Arizona, which beat him in each of his first two starts this year. Diamondbacks are 7-0 in their last 7 road games and Diamondbacks are 12-2 in Rays last 14 starts vs. a team with a losing record. Giants are 8-17 in Samardzijas last 25 starts vs. a team with a winning record. |

09-13-17 | Pirates v. Brewers -157 | Top | 2-8 | Win | 100 | 9 h 49 m | Show |
Brewers The Milwaukee Brewers have gotten far more than expected out of Chase Anderson this season, which is one reason they’re still in the hunt for a playoff spot. The Brewers need another major contribution from him in the finale of their three-game series against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Anderson gets the ball a day earlier than expected as he slides into Jimmy Nelson’s spot in the rotation for the rubber match of the series. The Brewers have won four of their last five contests to pull within 2 1/2 games of the first-place Chicago Cubs in the National League Central and remain four behind Colorado for the second wild card. Anderson will start on three days’ rest after an abbreviated outing against Chicago on Saturday. The 29-year-old threw only 67 pitches while allowing one hit over five scoreless frames before the Brewers lifted him with a 14-0 lead. Anderson is 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA in nine career starts versus the Pirates and won the only meeting this season. Pirates are 1-6 in Glasnows last 7 starts when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game. Brewers are 8-2 in their last 10 home games vs. a right-handed starter and Brewers are 9-2 in Andersons last 11 starts after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game. |

Cardinals One good week pulled the St. Louis Cardinals within two games of the division-leading Chicago Cubs in the National League Central. With another good week, beginning on Tuesday when they host the Cincinnati Reds in the opener of a three-game series, the Cardinals could find themselves back on top. PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Robert Stephenson (4-4, 5.15 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (10-7, 2.94) Stephenson earned the win in each of his last four outings and is coming off a strong start against Milwaukee last Tuesday, in which he surrendered one run and four hits while working around five walks. The 24-year-old fanned seven against the Brewers and owns 25 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings over his last three outings. Yankees The New York Yankees continue to march toward a playoff spot and can give themselves even more cushion when they go for their eighth victory in 10 games Tuesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays at Citi Field in New York. Todd Frazier belted a three-run homer in Monday’s 5-1 victory in the series opener as the Yankees crept within three games of first-place Boston in the American League East. PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Sonny Gray (9-9, 3.22 ERA) vs. Rays LH Blake Snell (3-6, 4.36) Gray won for the second time in three starts last time out at Baltimore when he allowed one unearned run and six hits over 5 2/3 innings. The 27-year-old Vanderbilt product yielded two or fewer earned runs in six of his seven starts since being acquired by the Yankees, but is only 3-4 despite a solid 2.74 ERA in that span. Evan Longoria is 10-for-26 with a homer versus Gray, who limited the Rays to two runs across 6 1/3 innings for a win July 19 while with the Oakland Athletics, improving to 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA in nine starts against Tampa Bay. Snell is unbeaten in his past eight starts, but struggled in his last outing Wednesday against Minnesota when he permitted six runs on seven hits (two homers) across four innings of a no-decision. Blue Jays The Baltimore Orioles still find themselves in the thick of the cluttered American League wild-card race despite their four-game losing streak. Baltimore looks to end the slide when it continues its 10-game road trip Monday with the first of three contests against the Toronto Blue Jays. D'Backs The Arizona Diamondbacks have matched the longest winning streak in franchise history and look to post their 13th consecutive victory on Wednesday, when they conclude a three-game series against the host Los Angeles Dodgers. Arizona equaled the club mark set in 2003 by recording a 3-1, 10-inning win on Tuesday. PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Taijuan Walker (8-7, 3.42 ERA) vs. Dodgers RH Kenta Maeda (12-6, 4.19) Walker is 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA over his last three starts but has worked fewer than six innings in two of them. Pollock. The 29-year-old from Japan has struggled all season against Arizona, going 0-2 with a 9.53 ERA while allowing eight blasts over 17 frames in four starts to fall to 3-3 with a 5.19 ERA in 10 career turns. 09-06-17 | Nationals -126 v. Marlins | Top | 8-1 | Win | 100 | 7 h 32 m | Show |
Nationals Daniel Murphy has tormented the Miami Marlins throughout the season, and this series in South Florida has been no different. The 32-year-old Florida native looks to continue to give the Marlins fits as the Washington Nationals vie for a three-game series sweep on Wednesday. PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (13-6, 2.58 ERA) vs. Marlins LH Dillon Peters (0-0, 0.00) Gonzalez has handcuffed Miami to the tune of posting a 9-3 mark with a 1.94 ERA in 15 career starts and a 3-0 record with a 1.29 ERA and 26 strikeouts in four outings (28 innings) this season. The 31-year-old Miami Dade County native didn't look as dominant in his last trip to the mound, however, as he saw his five-start winning streak come to a halt in Thursday's 6-3 setback at Milwaukee. The five runs he allowed in the six-inning stint were the most he surrendered since May 8. Peters did not record a decision in his major-league debut, but the 25-year-old certainly turned heads after scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings versus Philadelphia on Friday. Peters struck out eight to match Jose Fernandez's 2013 franchise record for a pitcher in his major-league debut, prompting the younger hurler to say that it's "unbelievable company" after the contest. The bullpen was unable to hold a one-run lead in the ninth and spoiled Peters' bid for his first career victory. |

Astros Justin Verlander makes his debut for the Houston Astros when he takes the mound against the host Seattle Mariners on Tuesday in the middle contest of their three-game series. Verlander recently was acquired from Detroit after winning 183 games in 12-plus seasons with the club, topped by a 2011 campaign in which he won American League MVP and Cy Young honors. PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Justin Verlander (10-8, 3.82 ERA) vs. Mariners LH Ariel Miranda (8-6, 4.85) Verlander pitched well in his last three starts for Detroit, going 2-0 with 1.71 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 21 innings during the span. He has won five of his last six decisions and given up two runs or fewer in six of his last seven outings. Verlander has posted a 2.13 ERA in two no-decisions against the Mariners this season - he retired the first 16 batters he faced on June 21, when he registered a season-best 11 strikeouts - and is 10-8 with a 3.15 ERA in 22 career outings. Miranda has recorded just one victory over his last 10 starts and has worked five innings or fewer in each of the past five. Yankees The New York Yankees look to slug their way to another big divisional win when they continue a three-game series at the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. After taking three of four against American League East-leading Boston over the weekend - capped by a four-homer barrage in Sunday's 9-2 victory - the Yankees again used the long ball to rally for a 7-4 win in the series opener at Camden Yards on Labor Day. PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees LH CC Sabathia (11-5, 3.71 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Jeremy Hellickson (8-8, 5.15) Sabathia made waves with his comments railing against the Red Sox for bunting against him in the first inning, which overshadowed his third straight strong start. The 37-year-old is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in those three outings since coming off the disabled list in the middle of August. He was pounded for seven runs in 5 2/3 innings against Baltimore in the previous meeting April 28, but is 19-10 with a 3.47 ERA in 40 career starts versus the Orioles. Hellickson's 200th career outing was a rough one Thursday in Toronto, where he was reached for seven runs over 4 2/3 frames. The loss left him 2-3 with a 6.55 ERA in six starts since being acquired from Philadelphia, and he has a 13.50 mark in his last two home appearances. |

The American League Central-leading Indians have dropped three of their last four games after suffering a 3-2 loss to Colorado in 12 innings on Wednesday afternoon and will meet four teams in the playoff hunt on their trek. Snell was recalled take the spot of injured Alex Cobb (turf toe) in the rotation five days after being sent down to Triple-A Durham. The 24-year-old Seattle native permitted three runs in each of four starts during his last stint in the majors, completing more than four innings in just two of them while surrendering a home run in every game. Snell faced Cleveland once in his career, giving up three runs (two earned) over 6 2/3 innings during a loss last June. The Indians have won seven of their last eight games at Tropicana Field. Indians are 7-1 in their last 8 during game 1 of a series and are 8-2 in Salazars last 10 starts following a team loss in their previous game. 08-09-17 | Dodgers v. Diamondbacks +102 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -100 | 8 h 24 m | Show |
D’Backs The Arizona Diamondbacks got off to a good start on their eight-game homestand and look to continue the success when they host the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday for the middle contest of their three-games series. Arizona lost the final two contests of its 5-5 road trip before posting a 6-3 triumph on Tuesday in the opener of the set against Los Angeles. PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers LH Alex Wood (13-1, 2.33 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (13-4, 3.10) Wood appears to have recovered from his lone loss of the season, winning each of his last two starts - including a triumph at Atlanta on Thursday in which he allowed one run over six innings. The outing helped the 26-year-old native of North Carolina avenge the defeat on July 21, when the Braves tagged him for nine runs - seven earned - on nine hits and four walks over 4 2/3 frames. Wood is 4-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 11 career games (seven starts) against Arizona. Greinke managed to extend his unbeaten streak to seven starts on Thursday as he escaped Chicago with a no-decision after being tagged by the Cubs for six runs and nine hits over six innings. The 33-year-old Floridian has gone 5-0 since suffering his last loss on June 20, when he yielded four runs in 7 1/3 frames at Colorado. Greinke, who recorded 51 wins with Los Angeles from 2013-15, fell to 3-3 lifetime against the Dodgers after giving up five runs on 10 hits and three walks over five innings of a road loss on April 14. Dodgers are 3-7 in Woods last 10 starts after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game. Red Sox The Boston Red Sox were showing off their offense at the beginning of last week and are leaning on their pitching staff of late, with the two pieces combining to lead the team to seven straight wins. The Red Sox will try to make it eight in a row when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays for the finale of a two-game series on Wednesday. PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Rick Porcello (5-14, 4.70 ERA) vs. Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (6-4, 4.47) Porcello did not have his best stuff last time out but got enough help from his offense to snap a six-start winless streak. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner surrendered five runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, failing to go at least six innings for just the second time in 23 starts this season. Porcello enjoyed one of his best starts at Tampa Bay on July 8, when he yielded one run and six hits in eight innings but still suffered the loss in a 1-0 final. Odorizzi spent the last two weeks on the disabled list due to a lower back strain and is hoping to find the form he showed in the start before he felt the injury. The 27-year-old yielded one run and one hit in seven innings at Oakland on July 17 before exiting after four frames against Texas on July 23 and hitting the DL. Odorizzi was not sharp against Boston on July 7, when he was lit up for seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings. Red Sox are 9-2 in Porcellos last 11 starts with 5 days of rest. Rays are 0-4 in Odorizzis last 4 home starts. Road team is 6-1 in Randazzos last 7 games behind home plate vs. Boston. |

The Pirates will try to stay hot when they visit the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday for the beginning of the second half of a four-game, home-and-home interleague series. PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Ivan Nova (10-8, 3.66 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Justin Verlander (7-7, 4.20) Nova is trying to end a string of three straight winless starts and had some trouble retiring the light-hitting San Diego Padres in his last two outings. The Dominican Republic native allowed eight runs (five earned) and 14 hits in 11 total innings over those two starts and was ripped for seven runs in five frames at Colorado on July 23. Nova is familiar with Comerica Park from his time with the New York Yankees in the American League and is 0-2 with an 8.25 ERA in three career appearances - two starts - at Detroit's home field. Verlander reportedly made it through waivers but is not expected to be traded by the end of this month, though his results of late can only have increased his value. The former MVP surrendered three or fewer runs in each of his last six turns and struck out 10 over seven innings while scattering two runs at Baltimore on Friday. Verlander is 28-5 with a 3.03 ERA in 40 career interleague starts, including 4-2 in seven chances against Pittsburgh. Pirates are 0-5 in their last 5 interleague road games. Tigers are 21-7 in Verlanders last 28 interleague starts. |

Stratton will be making his second start and fifth appearance of the season for the Giants. The 26-year-old lost to Detroit on July 6, when he gave up five runs and six hits over 6 2/3 innings as a late fill-in for the injured Johnny Cueto. Stratton walked five in the loss to the Tigers and has issued 13 free passes in 24 major-league innings over the last two seasons. 08-05-17 | Cardinals +124 v. Reds | Top | 4-1 | Win | 124 | 5 h 3 m | Show |
Cardinals The St. Louis Cardinals are far from being out of the National League Central race, but the Cincinnati Reds would like to help change that. The Reds aim for their second consecutive win over the visiting Cardinals when the division rivals continue their three-game series Saturday. PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (9-6, 3.20 ERA) vs. Reds RH Luis Castillo (2-4, 3.56) Lynn was thought to be a trade candidate ahead of last week’s non-waiver deadline after bolstering his value with an excellent stretch during July. Cardinals Randal Grichuk looks to extend his career-best home run streak to a staggering five straight contests on Tuesday as the St. Louis Cardinals vie for a series victory over the visiting Colorado Rockies. The 25-year-old recorded his sixth homer in eight games overall by belting a two-run blast in Monday's 8-2 victory over the Rockies in the series opener. PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Jon Gray (3-1, 6.19 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Lance Lynn (8-6, 3.30) Gray recorded his third win in four outings despite allowing four runs on seven hits over six innings against San Diego last Wednesday. The majority of that damage was done in the sixth on Cory Spangenberg's three-run homer, but the 25-year-old was staked to a 13-run lead entering the frame. Gray will look to exact revenge against the Cardinals following a disastrous performance last season in which he yielded a career-high nine runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings of a 13-7 setback. Lynn turned in his third straight strong performance on Thursday, but settled for a no-decision despite allowing one run on three hits in six innings against the New York Mets. The 30-year-old permitted a solo homer, accounting for the lone run he's allowed in his last three starts (19 1/3 innings). Lynn struggled in his last outing against Colorado, yielding four runs on six hits in five innings of an 8-4 loss on May 28. Rockies are 1-6 in Grays last 7 road starts vs. a team with a losing record. Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH David Price (5-2, 3.39 ERA) vs. Angels RH JC Ramirez (8-8, 4.54) Price tossed eight scoreless innings against the New York Yankees on Sunday and has allowed a total of two runs over his last three starts covering 20 frames. 07-21-17 | Astros -140 v. Orioles | Top | 8-7 | Win | 100 | 7 h 10 m | Show |
Astros The Houston Astros continue to be involved in several significant trade rumors as they embark on a nine-game road trip beginning Friday night at the Baltimore Orioles. On top of the American League West since the second week of the season, the Astros are looking to improve upon a roster that led the majors in runs scored and ranked seventh in ERA entering Thursday, with names such as Oakland's Sonny Gray and Detroit's Justin Verlander among those drawing interest. PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Mike Fiers (6-4, 3.75 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Ubaldo Jimenez (4-5, 7.01) Fiers is 5-2 with a 2.50 ERA over his last nine starts and he struck out a season-high 11 in seven strong innings of a 5-3 win over Minnesota his last time out. The 32-year-old has allowed 37 hits in 54 innings during that stretch and he did not walk a batter against the Twins for the first time in 18 starts this year. Fiers allowed a run in seven innings to pick up the win in his only prior start at Camden Yards in 2016. After finishing June with eight scoreless innings in a dazzling performance at Toronto, Jimenez has given up 15 runs and 21 hits in 13 2/3 innings over three starts this month. The worst of the lot came Sunday at home against the Chicago Cubs, who pounded the veteran for six runs and 11 hits in 3 2/3 frames. Jimenez has been hit hard by a handful of Astros, including Carlos Beltran (10-for-28, three homers), Josh Reddick (8-for-19, one home run) and Evan Gattis (4-for-11, one home run). Astros are 37-14 in their last 51 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and are 9-3 in Fiers' last 12 road starts. Orioles are 2-8 in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Astros are 13-3 in the last 16 meetings. |

07-19-17 | Nationals -114 v. Angels | Top | 0-7 | Loss | -114 | 10 h 10 m | Show |
Nationals The Washington Nationals reportedly still are exploring the trade market even after adding two relievers earlier this week, but it’s hard to believe they have much more room for improvement. The Nationals are 21 games over .500 and riding a six-game winning streak as they head into Wednesday’s contest against the host Los Angeles Angels, who will be without leadoff hitter Cameron Maybin for the next few weeks. PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (8-4, 2.66 ERA) vs. Angels RH Alex Meyer (3-5, 4.18) Gonzalez snapped a three-game losing streak on Friday by tossing 8 1/3 scoreless innings in a 5-0 win over Cincinnati. “We weren't able to get any pressure on Gio,” Reds manager Bryan Price told reporters. “We didn’t have any push at all to get back into the game until the ninth inning. That was a dominant performance.” Mike Trout is 1-for-11 with six strikeouts versus Gonzalez, who has gone 7-2 with a 2.62 ERA in 11 career starts against the Angels. Meyer will be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to start in place of Ricky Nolasco, who will be given two extra days of rest and face Boston on Friday. The 27-year-old Meyer was optioned to the minors after allowing five runs over five innings in a 9-5 loss to Minnesota on July 3. A first-round draft pick of the Nationals in 2011, Meyer has struggled with his control this season, issuing 41 walks over 60 1/3 frames in his 12 major-league starts. Nationals are 6-0 in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing record. Angels are 0-5 in their last 5 games vs. a left-handed starter.

A 15-game winner in 2016, Sanchez is coming off his first victory of the season as he prepares to make the start Wednesday when visiting Toronto resumes its four-game series against the Boston Red Sox. PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Aaron Sanchez (1-2, 3.94 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH Drew Pomeranz (9-4, 3.75) Sanchez returned just before the All-Star break and took a beating against Houston, giving up a career-high eight runs on seven hits while lasting only 1 2/3 innings. He was much better last time out in what was just his seventh start of the year, limiting Detroit to an unearned run and seven hits over six innings. Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts and Hanley Ramirez a combined 9-for-52 versus Sanchez. A ninth-inning rally by Boston took Pomeranz off the hook for a loss after he permitted four runs over six innings last time out against the New York Yankees. The 28-year-old won his previous three starts in impressive fashion, including a victory at Toronto on July 2 in which he allowed one run and five hits in six innings. Justin Smoak has had success against Pomeranz with three hits in seven at-bats. Blue Jays are 0-4 in Sanchezs last 4 starts vs. a team with a winning record. 07-18-17 | Tigers v. Royals -104 | Top | 9-3 | Loss | -104 | 8 h 59 m | Show |
Royals The Detroit Tigers have been atrocious away from the Motor City, but they certainly have made themselves at home this season when opposing the Kansas City Royals. Winners of three in a row overall, the Tigers vie for their sixth triumph in eight encounters with the reeling Royals on Tuesday as the American League Central rivals continue their three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers LH Matthew Boyd (2-5, 5.69 ERA) vs. Royals LH Travis Wood (1-2, 6.06) Boyd will receive the spot start in place of Daniel Norris, who is slated for a rehab assignment as he works his way back from a groin strain. The 26-year-old Boyd allowed four runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings against Kansas City on May 31, with a detour to Triple-A Toledo following the outing. "Just executing my game, executing pitches. That's just my thing," Boyd told reporters when asked if he's entertaining any thoughts of revenge with Tuesday's contest. Wood fared well in his first start in nearly two years on July 2, yielding two runs and six hits in four-plus innings of a no-decision versus Minnesota on July 2. The 30-year-old tossed 81 pitches, a significant upgrade from his previous season-high total of 49 and the most he had thrown in a game since May 14, 2015. Wood will be well-rested as he was skipped in the rotation with the team's day off last Thursday. Tigers are 1-6 in Boyds last 7 starts on grass. Royals are 13-3 in their last 16 during game 2 of a series. |

The 25-year-old Tennessee native was tied for fifth in baseball entering Monday with 141 strikeouts and his ERA ranked eighth. Rays Reigning American League MVP Mike Trout returns to the lineup after a 39-game absence on Friday, when the Los Angeles Angels host the Tampa Bay Rays in the opener of their three-game series. Los Angeles went 19-20 without the superstar center fielder, who suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb on May 28 that required surgery. PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Jacob Faria (4-0, 2.11 ERA) vs. Angels RH Ricky Nolasco (4-10, 5.06) Faria has been superb since his recall from the minors, allowing just one run in four of his first six major-league starts. Faria walked four in six innings while defeating Boston in his last turn after handing out a total of five free passes in his first five outings. The 34-year-old surrendered three blasts in a loss to the Rays on May 24, when he gave up five runs and seven hits in six frames. Nolasco, who is 3-7 with a 6.67 ERA in 10 career starts against Tampa Bay, gave up two homers to Steven Souza Jr. and one to Colby Rasmus in the May defeat. Rays are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 1 of a series. Angels are 2-10 in Nolascos last 12 starts on grass. Rays are 21-8 in the last 29 meetings in Los Angeles.

Nationals The Washington Nationals are in control of the National League East, holding a 9 1/2-game cushion as they prepare to kick off the second half of the season with a nine-game road trip. The Nationals enter the second half tied with Colorado for the most road wins in the NL (26) as they visit the Cincinnati Reds on Friday in the opener of a four-game set. PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals LH Gio Gonzalez (7-4, 2.86 ERA) vs. Reds RH Tim Adleman (5-6, 4.71) Gonzalez has come away with the loss in each of his last three outings despite allowing a combined five runs and stretching his streak of quality starts to eight. He allowed three runs on seven hits in a loss to Atlanta last time out after yielding one run on only two hits in each of his previous two turns. The 31-year-old Gonzalez has made eight career starts against the Reds, posting a 3-2 record and 2.98 ERA. Adleman fell to 1-4 over his last five starts after giving up four runs (three earned) and six hits over five innings in a loss at Arizona. The 29-year-old has failed to pitch beyond five innings in five of the last six outings and he continues to be victimized by the long ball, surrendering 12 homers during a span in which he allowed at least one in eight straight starts. Adleman will be facing the Nationals for the first time. Nationals are 5-0 in Gonzalezs last 5 starts with 7 or more days of rest. Reds are 1-5 in Adlemans last 6 starts. Nationals are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. |

07-05-17 | Orioles v. Brewers -138 | Top | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 7 h 26 m | Show |
Brewers Eric Thames made a triumphant return to the lineup and the Milwaukee Brewers have a chance at a three-game sweep of the visiting Baltimore Orioles when the teams finish their set Wednesday night. Thames sat out the opener of the series - an 8-1 win for the Brewers - but was back in there against a right-hander Tuesday afternoon and responded in a big way. The slugger smacked his 22nd and 23rd home runs as part of a four-homer barrage for Milwaukee, which opened up a season-high 3 1/2-game lead in the National League Central. PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles LH Jayson Aquino (1-1, 9.00 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Matt Garza (3-4, 4.36) Aquino will be making his second career start and his first since April 22, when he held Boston to two runs in six innings. He followed that up with two relief appearances for Baltimore in which he gave up six runs in just two innings, which prompted a demotion to Triple-A Norfolk. The 24-year-old is 2-7 with a 4.46 ERA in 12 starts for the Tides. Garza let up two runs and six hits in five innings of a no-decision against Miami on Friday in a game the Brewers would win 3-2. He is 9-1 with a 3.11 ERA lifetime versus Baltimore, although he has not faced the Orioles in over three years. The 33-year-old, who completed six innings just once in his last seven starts, has allowed seven home runs in 36 1/3 innings at home this year. |

07-04-17 | Orioles v. Brewers -155 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 3 h 5 m | Show |
Brewers The Milwaukee Brewers picked on one of the many struggling starting pitchers for the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of their three-game series and will try to do so again when the teams meet Tuesday afternoon. The Brewers jumped all over Wade Miley - who gave up seven runs in 1 2/3 innings - en route to an 8-1 win Monday, their fourth victory in the last five games. PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Ubaldo Jimenez (3-3, 6.48 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (6-4, 3.43) Six days after giving up nine runs over 2 1/3 innings in an ugly outing at Tampa Bay, Jimenez spun eight scoreless frames to top Toronto his last time out. He struck out a season-high eight, walked one and let up two hits to win for the second time in his last three outings. Nelson has won four of his last five decisions and recorded at least 10 strikeouts in four out of seven outings. He fanned 11 and limited Cincinnati to two runs and three hits over seven stellar frames Thursday. The University of Alabama product, who has yet to face Baltimore, has a 2.64 ERA in nine home starts this year. Orioles are 2-10 in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a winning record. Brewers are 4-1 in Nelsons last 5 starts vs. a team with a losing record. Orioles are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Milwaukee. Home team is 5-0 in Morales' last 5 games behind home plate. |

07-01-17 | Rockies v. Diamondbacks -157 | Top | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 9 h 13 m | Show |
D’Backs The Colorado Rockies look to put together a winning streak after ending a lengthy slide when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday for the middle contest of their three-game set. Colorado concluded a roller-coaster month of June with a 6-3 triumph in the series opener on Friday, ending an eight-game skid that included the first six contests of its nine-game road trip. PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (6-8, 4.32 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Greinke (9-4, 3.08) Chatwood lasted only 3 1/3 innings at Los Angeles on Saturday, when he gave up only three hits against the Dodgers but issued eight walks and was on the hook for all the runs in a 4-0 loss. The 27-year-old Californian allowed only two runs over six frames in his previous outing. Greinke owns a perfect 7-0 record at home after defeating Philadelphia on Monday, when he allowed one run and three hits in five innings. The 33-year-old Floridian matched his season high in the outing with three walks but kept the damage to a minimum after surrendering a total of nine runs - four earned - over 13 frames in his previous two turns including one at Colorado on June 20. Greinke is 1-1 with a 3.98 ERA in three starts against the Rockies this season and 8-5 with one shutout and a 4.08 ERA in 23 career games (22 starts) versus Colorado.
