Let’s take a look at Ray Monohan’s 2024 Week 5 NFL Power Rankings for the 2024 season.
1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
The Chiefs keep finding ways to win, most recently putting their stamp on the AFC West. Some injuries at the skill positions will make the offense less explosive in the short term, but perhaps that forces them to build on their momentum with Travis Kelce to really get him going.
2. Minnesota Vikings (4-0)
Forget about Comeback Player of the Year – we need to start considering Sam Darnold for MVP. Kevin O’Connell has helped rejuvenate the former No. 3 pick’s career and has the offense firing on all cylinders, and Brian Flores has turned the defense into a formidable unit. A trip to England and the New York Jets is all that stands between the Vikings and a 5-0 start heading into their bye.
3. Buffalo Bills (3-1)
It was a forgettable night in Baltimore, but even with that caveat, Josh Allen was still making spectacular plays and looking like an MVP candidate. They need to get healthy and shore up their linebacking corps after giving up a whopping 271 yards on the ground to the Ravens.

4. Detroit Lions (3-1)
The Lions’ only loss came against an extra motivated Buccaneers team avenging their playoff exit a year ago. The team’s schedule gets tougher with four of five road games coming out of the bye, but four of those games will be played in domes, which helps given how good their offense has been indoors.
5. Baltimore Ravens (2-2)
The Ravens bounced back from an 0-2 start with two dominant wins over tough competition. They’re just about through the toughest part of their schedule in a year the schedule-makers gave them a real test early on. The defense is playing like we expect a Ravens defense to play, and the offense is as good as ever with Derrick Henry complementing Lamar Jackson.
6. San Francisco 49ers (2-2)
The 49ers got healthy in a hurry and that was bad news for the Patriots. They’ll be without their star running back for a while longer but Jordan Mason has looked fine in his stead. Their schedule is very tough in the coming weeks so this will really test the mettle of a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
7. Houston Texans (3-1)
The passing game is as good as any in the league, with Joe Mixon adding an additional dimension on the ground. Stefon Diggs has re-found his game since leaving Buffalo.
8. Seattle Seahawks (3-1)
Geno Smith has Ryan Grubb’s offense humming, and Mike Macdonald is getting the most out of a young, emerging defensive unit. For now, they sit atop the NFC West. Likely they’ll get 5 defensive starters back this week vs. the Giants.
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1)
This team just seems really dialed in, with their offense helping overcome some injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Once Todd Bowles gets that side of the ball in order, this team’s going to be a really tough test with all the offensive weapons they force opposing defenses to account for.
10. Washington Commanders (3-1)
Jayden Daniels is emerging as a star in this league. He has the Commander offense playing fearlessly, and is finally getting the most out of some of their talented playmakers. At some point the defense is going to hold the offense back, but right now this team is a lot of fun to watch for a franchise that hasn’t given its fan base much reason for excitement in recent years.
