2026 Filly & Mare Turf Handicapping: Blue Bolt Race Odds: 5-2
Blue Bolt is unbeaten in six consecutive races this year in Europe, including the last four in Group 1 races in the UK, France and Ireland. She’s won on turf rated soft, good and fast.
On form and class she’s the best in this field, but the big question is distance. All of those wins have been at one mile, and she’s never tried anything close to this distance before. And there’s nothing in her pedigree that suggests distance, as her sire was a sprinter, and her damsire was also a miler.
2026 Filly & Mare Turf Handicapping: Precise Race Odds: 7-2
Second last out in the (G1) Prix de l’Opera in France, Precise is similar to Blue Bolt in that most of her racing has been at one mile. But at least that last effort was at 1 1/4 miles, and she was closing from off the pace.
She has been beaten by Blue Bolt three times, so the connections must be hoping the distance tips the scales. They took the exact same race prep route to win the Filly & Mare Turf in 2022.
2026 Filly & Mare Turf Handicapping: Gimme A Nother Race Odds: 10-1
South Africa-bred mare Gimme A Nother has been racing in North America since early 2025 after winning her first seven career starts in her native country. On this side of the pond she’s raced eight times and comes in riding her own four-race win streak.
Last out she raced close to the pace in the (G1) EP Taylor Stakes going 1 1/4 miles at Woodbine, rallying at the 1/8 pole to get up and win by a neck over a very solid field.
2026 Filly & Mare Turf Handicapping: Kathynmarissa Race Odds: 5-1
The best American hope, Kathynmarissa has won four of her last five and has finished in the money in 12 of her 15 lifetime starts.
Last out she emerged from mid-pack to get up late and win the (G2) Flower Bowl Stakes by 3/4 length, and two back she won the (G1) Diana Stakes with a similar move to win by 1/2 length. She has wins going shorter, and wins going longer, but interestingly she only has second and third-place finishes in two tries at this distance.

It’s a bit of a puzzler as to why Blue Bolt is running in this race as opposed to the Mile – for the same purse money – but that could be explained away simply because she’s never faced males before and the connections don’t want to start now.
At the same time, it’s an indication of the strength of the European turf horses that they’d take her out of her comfort zone, ask her to go 3/16 miles longer than she’s ever gone, and still have full confidence she can win.
Whatever the case, I’m a bit leery. I do think the top two in the ML are the ones to beat, but I’m going to go in the other direction and put Precise on top. At least she has some distance recency, and a repeat of her effort in running second in France should be enough to get it done here.
