2026 Sprint Handicapping
- The favourite has only won 2 of the past 10 races, but has hit the board five other times
- Two of 10 winners were in double-digit odds, all others were between 8-5 and 6-1
- No winners in the past 10 years have come from post position #1 and #3, only one from PP #2
- Seven of 10 winners had won their previous start, two others ran second
2026 Sprint Handicapping: Englishman Race Odds: 4-5
Englishman has won four of his five lifetime races, his only loss coming when he ran second in his only non-sprint race, the (G2) Pat Day Mile last May.
Otherwise, he’s run three times at seven furlongs and once at this six furlong distance and he’s won them all. And it hasn’t even been close, as the combined winning margin in those races was 21 1/4 lengths. He simply goes to the front, and stays there.
2026 Sprint Handicapping: T O Elvis Race Odds: 7-2
Kentucky-bred but Japan raced, T O Elvis is on a five-race win streak, and like Englishman most of those wins have been by open lengths.
It’s tough to get a read on the level of competition he faced in Japan, but he did come over in May to win the (G1) Churchill Downs Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths over a pretty good field. That was his last official start, and he has no published workouts since then but it can be expected he’ll be ready to roll on Saturday.
2026 Sprint Handicapping: Built Race Odds: 10-1
The hard-knocking Built doesn’t have a Grade 1 win on his resume, but he’s hit the board in 12 of his 15 lifetime starts with seven wins.
He’s won his last two consecutive races and three of his last four. He has also won three-of-five at the distance and has one win in one start on the Keeneland dirt.
2026 Sprint Handicapping: Listenupschance Race Odds: 12-1
California shipper Listenupschance has also won his last two, although last out in the (G2) Santa Anita Sprint Championships he only faced two other horses and eventually prevailed 3/4 length. Prior to that he did beat seven others to win the (G1) Bing Crosby by a nose.
His best effort may have come back in June at Saratoga in the (G3) True North Stakes where he finished third but beaten only 3/4 length by Book ’em Danno, the US Champion Male Sprinter in 2025. The second-place finisher there won this race last year.
Here’s My 2026 Sprint Free Pick
T O Elvis is a true wild card in here, in that there’s very little recent form to go on, and his races over in Japan are mysteries as far as the level of competition he faced. Still, the races came back fast, and his win at Churchill was solid. If he’s the real deal, he could give Englishman his first real challenge in a sprint race.
Otherwise, even though he’s a three-year-old facing older horses for the first time, this is Englishman’s race to lose. He’s excellent out of the gate and demoralizes his competition early and then goes on to defeat them.
This might be a race where you keep your money in your pocket, and just watch for the fun of it.
