Atlanta might have dug itself too big of a hole to get back into the NFC playoff picture now but it’s doing all it can to.
The Falcons have wrecked two division rivals on the road in each of the last two weeks and will actually come into this one favored by more than a field goal.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay was outmatched on its home field by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. A late Jameis Winston pick-six put the Saints up double the Bucs’ score, 34–17.

Winston threw four interceptions and the pass he threw left-handed actually went for a completion. He continues to do wild things in any attempt to make a play. Two of his picks were tipped but neither was a good throw. He also threw one in the end zone at the very end of the game after the ball that got returned for a touchdown.
Cameron Brate led the receivers with ten catches for 73 yards; Mike Evans had four for 69; and Peyton Barber and Chris Godwin caught Winston’s two touchdowns on the day.
The Bucs got down early, 20–0, though it could have been worse. Tampa’s defense did a nice job to hold the Saints to a pair of field goals on their first two possessions.
What the early deficit did do was eliminate any chance of the Bucs establishing a ground game. Ronald Jones got just four carries for 13 yards and the Saints sacked Winston twice and pressured him a whole lot more than that.
With the loss and Atlanta’s win, the Buccaneers moved into a tie for last place in the division. Another home loss will see them all alone in the basement.
Atlanta Falcons
After losing seven of its first eight games, including the last seven in a row, Atlanta is showing signs of life.

The Falcons have convincingly defeated a pair of division rivals in the last two weeks and have a chance to make it three in a row when they welcome in the Bucs on Sunday.
Atlanta built a huge lead early in Week 11 and went on to route the Panthers in Carolina, 29–3. This is just a week after beating down the Saints in New Orleans, 26–9.
Matt Ryan went 21-for-31 for 311 yards and a touchdown to Calvin Ridley. Ridley had eight catches for 143 and the touch; Julio Jones caught six balls for 91 yards.
Like when the Bucs got down big to the Saints in Week 11, the Panthers just couldn’t retain any balance on offense. Christian McCaffrey still did damage as a receiver (11/121) but he got only 14 carries.
As a result, Kyle Allen finished 31-for-50 with four interceptions. After scoring a cumulative single fantasy point in seven of its first eight games, Atlanta’s defense has been the most productive unit in the league for two weeks now.
Sometimes, when it rains in pours and with the Falcons coming in with a hot defense that has seen tons of turnovers in the last two weeks, Jameis Winston could struggle again.

It would be so Falcons to build up all this steam and then drop a dud at home. I don’t think so though. I’m going to play the hot hand and say the Falcons keep it rolling at home.
