This matchup welcomes two teams sitting just outside the window looking in to the playoffs and need a win.
This would be a good time for Geno to cement his place in Seattle’s 2023 plans. To be fair, he’s probably already there, but playing well in key games to make the playoffs would be the guaranteed ticket to staying in Seattle. Armed with Denver’s pick, they’re liable to take a rookie QB anyway, but that’s a story for another day.
The Jets have seemingly made their decision, rolling with Mike White to the bitter end and making Wilson inactive for this game. Ostensibly, it’s the right move. The numbers with White at the helm check out and the Jets passed the eye test. A win here would go a long way into making the playoffs.
Seattle Seahawks
Sunday was one of the poorest showings we’ve seen from the Seahawks all year. The cold bothered the Seahawks, despite their shirtless photos prior to the game. En route to scoring 10 points, the Seahawks ran 22 more plays than the Chiefs but couldn’t punch it in the endzone until late.
No one seemed more off in this game than Geno. He was highly inaccurate, though the Seahawks o-line struggled all day against the KC front. Let’s not forget, not only was KC under incredibly cold conditions, but they remain one of the loudest stadiums in the league.
Or maybe he just misses Tyler Lockett. Since his exit, Geno has posted his two of his ugliest games of the year, which is more unsettling in that Lockett is done for the year. This week they’ll host Sauce Gardner and the Jets’ 6th best pass D by DVOA.
Box scores won’t unearth a bad day by the defense, but what’s that old adage? It’s a line drive in the box score? Sometimes the raw numbers don’t tell us everything! Kansas City dominated the game. Seattle’s defense was never really able to dial up the pressure or really put the game in question.
New York Jets
Mike White’s return is crucial towards the Jets’ playoff chase. They’ve looked hopeless in the last two weeks, so his return couldn’t come soon enough.
I did an examination of the Jets’ stats with White under center here. Perhaps the most important part of White’s return is Garrett Wilson’s effectiveness directly correlates. Getting the most out of your #1 receiver is paramount to any offense. Seattle’s advanced numbers vs the pass don’t look great, but Woolen could travel with Wilson here.
Zonovan Knight’s explosiveness has worn off which has been a big downturn for the offense. Unless you have the super duper stars at QB, every offense is best suited to be balanced, where synergy takes place with softer boxes, that open up softer coverages, etc.
Still, the Jets are near the bottom of the league in yards/play (22nd) though Wilson’s numbers are baked in there. Ultimately, their best plan is to do enough offensively and let the defense carry most of the weight.
And they have. The Jets are 3rd in the NFL in opponent yards/play and rank 6th in total defense by DVOA. In their last two games however, the Jets have been highly vulnerable to passes, slotting 28th in EPA/dropback allowed. They can take advantage of Seattle’s o-line that has struggled to protect.

4* Seattle Seahawks vs. New York Jets Free Week 17 NFL Betting Prediction: SEA +2.5
This line is a bit of head scratcher. Seattle has homefield advantage, and one of the better advantages at that.
Homefield is usually worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 2-3 points, so if the Jets were home, ostensibly the line would be Jets somewhere around a touchdown favorite. Seems a little high.
Seattle is 2-1 ATS this season as a home dog, covering by an average of 4.8 points. This is the time to buy low on the Seahawks as well, coming off two consecutive losses and one where they failed to cover as 9 point underdogs in KC.
