2026 NFL Handicapping – Los Angeles Chargers vs Los Angeles Rams
Here’s why I’m backing LA ATS bet below in my Chargers Rams free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Chargers vs. Rams Gameday
The Los Angeles Chargers meet the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. This Week 8 matchup kicks off at 4:05 PM ET on FOX, with the Rams designated as the home team.
Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers are 0-6, with 3 losses at home and 3 on the road. They’ve had a bye week to regroup, and there’s certainly no shortage of problems to address.
Six games, zero wins, and an extra week for Harbaugh to figure out what went wrong.
The Rams enter at 3-4 under Sean McVay. They’ve struggled at home with a 1-3 record, despite having one of the NFL’s most productive offenses.
The Chargers are still searching for their first win, while the Rams are trying to build momentum after snapping a 2-game losing streak. Neither club has delivered the season it expected.
These teams share SoFi Stadium, but the home designation still matters for the crowd, sidelines and game-day operation. The Rams get that advantage Sunday.
The Chargers won their previous regular-season meeting 31-10 in January 2023. The Rams have enjoyed more recent preseason success, although exhibition results offer little guidance here.
Los Angeles bragging rights are on the line, along with 2 badly needed standings points. The Rams have the better record, but both teams have plenty to prove.
It’s Week 8, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Los Angeles Rams, hopefully we get a great matchup.

The Chargers lost their L5 against Las Vegas 26-14, Buffalo 24-16, Seattle 30-23, Denver 23-17 and Kansas City 22-6. Their offense hasn’t produced enough to overcome those opponents.
The Rams are 2-3 over their L5, beating Philadelphia 24-20 and Las Vegas 35-21. Their losses came against Denver 30-26, Buffalo 37-34 and Arizona 18-16.
Several of the Rams’ recent games have been decided by narrow margins. Their offense has kept them competitive, but the defense hasn’t always protected those performances.
The Chargers have been involved in competitive games without finding ways to finish them. Their recent defeat against Kansas City was particularly disappointing.
The Rams have the advantage in current form, while the Chargers are looking for their first breakthrough. A 6.5-point spread makes the difference between winning and covering especially important.

Rams Stats From Last Week
The Rams defeated Las Vegas 35-21 in Week 7, with Matthew Stafford throwing for 195 yards and 3 TDs. It was a welcome result for an offense that has produced plenty of yardage without enough wins.
Los Angeles leads the NFL with 399.1 total YPG and 274.1 passing YPG. The Rams have also rushed for 875 yards, giving them multiple ways to attack opposing defenses.
Kyren Williams has rushed for 492 yards and 5 TDs. He’s also added 239 receiving yards, making him an important part of the passing game.
The Rams know how to move the football; turning those yards into wins has been the harder part.
Defensively, Los Angeles allows 22.7 PPG and 186.3 passing YPG. The secondary has been effective limiting opposing passing attacks.
The Rams surrender 115.7 rushing YPG, leaving room for improvement against physical ground games. Their ability to win early downs remains important.
Davante Adams is on injured reserve following hamstring surgery. His absence removes a dangerous receiving option and puts more responsibility on the remaining targets.
Myles Garrett also remains on injured reserve after knee surgery. The Rams won’t open his practice window this week, leaving their other pass rushers to handle the workload.
Chargers Stats From Last Week
The Chargers average just 15.0 PPG and 287.2 total YPG, ranking near the bottom of the NFL in both categories. Their offense has struggled to sustain possessions and finish drives.
Omarion Hampton has rushed for 289 yards and 3 TDs. His production has been one of the few encouraging developments in an otherwise difficult season.
Tre’ Harris leads the receivers with 225 yards, while Ladd McConkey has added 200. Both need to provide more consistent production as the Chargers try to improve their passing attack.
Defensively, Los Angeles allows 25.2 PPG and 206.2 passing YPG. The Chargers have surrendered 1,980 total yards, showing that respectable yardage numbers haven’t translated into enough stops.
Khalil Mack leads the team with 3 sacks, while Tuli Tuipulotu has contributed 2. The Chargers need more pressure from their defensive front to help a secondary dealing with injuries.
Derwin James Jr. has missed practice with a hamstring injury, while Deane Leonard is dealing with a concussion. Those concerns could affect the defensive backfield.
McConkey has practiced fully despite his concussion designation, while Tre’ Harris has been limited by a hamstring issue. Their availability matters for an offense already short on production.
Chargers vs. Rams QB Matchup
Matthew Stafford leads the Rams with 1,989 passing yards, 14 TDs and 7 interceptions through 7 games. His production has been one of the biggest reasons Los Angeles remains dangerous offensively.
Stafford has completed 187 of 278 passes, connecting on 67.3% of his attempts. He’s been effective attacking defenses at different levels.
The veteran remains comfortable throwing into tight windows and recognizing coverage before the snap. His experience helps the Rams adjust when opponents change their defensive looks.
Puka Nacua has 45 receptions for 485 yards and 2 TDs. His route running and dependable hands give Stafford a reliable option on important downs.
Justin Herbert counters with 1,141 passing yards, 5 TDs and 8 interceptions through 6 games. Those turnovers have been costly for a Chargers offense already struggling to score.
Herbert has completed 107 of 180 passes, a 59.4% completion rate. He’s also been sacked 21 times, putting additional pressure on an offensive line that needs to improve.
The Chargers QB has rushed for 168 yards, showing he can extend plays when protection breaks down. His mobility remains useful against aggressive defensive fronts.

Herbert has the arm strength to challenge the Rams downfield, but he needs cleaner decisions and more consistent protection. The Rams’ secondary has been effective limiting big passing plays.
Stafford has the stronger passing production, while Herbert is trying to get his season back on track. Both QBs have the talent to make difficult throws, although their supporting offenses have produced very different results.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Los Angeles Rams bottom line: Stafford gives the Rams the more productive passing attack, while Herbert needs to protect the football and keep the Chargers competitive.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. Los Angeles Rams Football Betting Trends
- The Chargers have struggled as underdogs, going 3-5 straight-up in their last 8 regular season games.
- Also, the Chargers have not performed well against the spread in all games, with a 5-9 record over their last 14 regular season games.
- In contrast, the Rams have been strong in games with the total set at 50 or more, hitting the over in 2 of their last 3 regular season games.
- The Rams have excelled straight-up at home, winning 5 of their last 8 regular season games.
- Additionally, the Rams have been consistent as favorites, achieving a 9-3 over/under record in their last 12 regular season games.
- The Chargers have struggled with the over in away games, hitting it only 3 times in their last 8 regular season games.
Chargers Rams Free Pick: Chargers +6.5
Here is my Chargers Rams free pick: I’m taking Chargers +6.5. An 0-6 record won’t attract many bettors, but Jim Harbaugh has had a bye week to address the mistakes that have buried this team.
The Chargers don’t need to win outright to cash this bet. They need to avoid another miserable start and make the Rams earn their points instead of handing them favorable field position.
The Rams are favorites for good reason, but laying nearly a TD with a 3-4 team isn’t exactly a bargain.
I want Herbert getting the ball out quickly and the Chargers staying committed to manageable drives. Falling behind early and abandoning the running game would play straight into the Rams’ hands.
There’s risk here, especially with an offense that’s been its own worst enemy. Still, the Rams have already shown they can let inferior opponents hang around, and that makes the points attractive.
Harbaugh has had extra time to get his players ready, and I expect a much sharper effort. The Rams can have the win. I’ll take the cushion and back Chargers +6.5.
