2026 NFL Handicapping – New England Patriots vs Miami Dolphins
Here’s why I’m backing a Miami ATS bet below in my Patriots Dolphins free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Patriots vs. Dolphins Gameday
The New England Patriots visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, November 1, 2026, for a Week 8 AFC East matchup at Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4:25 PM ET on CBS and Paramount+.
Mike Vrabel’s Patriots enter at 4-3, including a 1-3 road record. They’ve been far more comfortable at home, where they’ve won all 3 games.
The Patriots have the better record, but Miami has never been their favorite place to collect a road win.
Jeff Hafley’s Dolphins are 1-5 and still searching for their first home victory. At least they finally have a win to build on after a miserable start.
New England’s 3-game winning streak ended with a 30-24 loss to Chicago. The Patriots moved the football but couldn’t overcome their mistakes.
Miami snapped its 5-game losing streak by beating the Jets 28-25. Nobody’s planning a parade, but the Dolphins needed that one badly.
The Patriots swept both meetings in 2025, winning 33-27 in Miami and 38-10 in Foxborough. Miami still leads the all-time series 64-57, including playoff games.
New England owns an 18-43 record when visiting the Dolphins. The Patriots have the stronger team on paper, but this rivalry has a habit of making road favorites uncomfortable.
It’s Week 8, New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins, hopefully we get a great matchup.

New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins Odds & Previous Games
New England opened as a 7-point favorite with a -339 moneyline, while Miami returned +273. The total was set at 44.5 points, giving the Patriots a substantial edge in the betting odds.
The Patriots are 3-2 over their L5, defeating Buffalo 29-26, Las Vegas 45-17 and the Jets 26-19. They also lost to Jacksonville 35-6 before their latest setback.
Miami is 1-4 over its L5, losing to San Francisco 35-13, Kansas City 24-10, Minnesota 15-10 and Cincinnati 31-24 before finally breaking through against New York.
New England is 4-3 ATS this season, including a 2-2 record away from home. The Patriots have covered 2 of their 3 games as favorites.
Miami has covered 8 of the previous 10 meetings with New England. That’s an interesting rivalry trend, even with the Dolphins sitting at the bottom of the division.
The Dolphins are 2-3-1 ATS overall, with a 0-1-1 record at home. Their results haven’t been impressive, but the full TD creates a different betting decision than simply choosing the winner.

Dolphins Stats From Last Week
Miami averages just 16.3 PPG and 293.5 total YPG. The Dolphins rank 30th in scoring, and their offense has struggled to finish drives.
The passing attack produces only 162.0 YPG. That’s not much production in today’s NFL, particularly when the defense can’t consistently keep opponents off the scoreboard.
Miami has been more effective on the ground, averaging 131.5 rushing YPG. Ollie Gordon II has helped carry the workload with De’Von Achane unavailable.
The Dolphins can run the football, but somebody still needs to turn those yards into points.
Defensively, Miami allows 337.7 total YPG and 26.2 PPG. The Dolphins rank 16th in total defense but have struggled considerably more in scoring defense.
Miami has managed only 6 sacks through 6 games. That lack of pressure has made life difficult for the secondary.
JuJu Brents has been dealing with neck and concussion concerns, while Kadyn Proctor has missed practice with a concussion. Both situations could affect Miami’s depth.
Malik Washington and Greg Dulcich have also been limited in practice. The Dolphins need their available offensive contributors ready for another division matchup.
Patriots Stats From Last Week
New England averages 375.0 total YPG, ranking 7th in the NFL. The Patriots have produced 253.0 passing YPG and 122.0 rushing YPG, giving them a reasonably balanced offense.
Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for 22 yards against Chicago but contributed a career-high 93 receiving yards. His versatility remains valuable when New England needs an outlet against pressure.
Hunter Henry leads the team with 26 receptions for 296 yards, while Romeo Doubs has 261 receiving yards and 3 TDs. The Patriots have several targets capable of moving the chains.
Defensively, New England allows 20.4 PPG and 315.7 total YPG. The Patriots have recorded 17 sacks, with their front seven providing consistent pressure.
New England owns a -7 turnover differential, one of the league’s worst marks. That’s a problem for a team with enough offensive talent to avoid giving away possessions.
A.J. Brown has been limited with ankle and knee concerns, while Ben Brown and Morgan Moses have also appeared on the injury report. Their availability could affect the offense’s depth.
Carlton Davis III practiced fully despite a neck issue, while several other defensive contributors have been managing injuries. New England needs a cleaner defensive performance than it delivered against Chicago.
Patriots vs. Dolphins QB Matchup
Drake Maye has thrown for 1,784 yards, 13 TDs and 8 interceptions through 7 games. He’s completed 141 of 214 passes, a 65.9% completion rate.
Maye threw for 321 yards and 2 TDs against Chicago. He also scored on the ground, although a costly interception hurt New England’s comeback chances.
The Patriots QB has thrown at least 2 TD passes in 4 straight games. He’s been particularly dangerous attacking defenses downfield.
Maye has also rushed for 211 yards and 2 TDs this season. His mobility gives New England another option when protection breaks down.
Miami counters with Malik Willis, who has thrown for 1,057 yards, 4 TDs and 4 interceptions in 6 appearances. His passing production has been inconsistent, but he remains dangerous when plays break down.
Willis threw for 208 yards and 2 TDs against the Jets. His performance helped Miami secure its first victory under Hafley.
The Dolphins QB is comfortable moving outside the pocket and challenging defenders with his legs. He’s been less effective when forced to operate against disciplined zone coverage.

Maye has the stronger passing numbers, while Willis gives Miami a different kind of threat with his mobility. Both QBs can extend plays, although they do it in different ways.
Maye practiced fully with a right shoulder designation, and Willis participated fully despite a groin issue. Neither was listed as limited in the latest available practice report.
New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins bottom line: Maye gives the Patriots the stronger passing attack, while Willis must make smart decisions to keep Miami competitive.

- Also, the Patriots have hit the over in all 4 of their regular season games this year.
- New England is 5-1 against the spread as favorites over their last 6 regular season games.
- The Dolphins have gone 2-1 against the spread as underdogs in their last 3 regular season games.

- Miami holds a 6-8 straight-up record in their last 14 regular season games.
Patriots Dolphins Free Pick: Dolphins +7
Here is my Patriots Dolphins free pick: I’m taking Dolphins +7. New England deserves to be favored, but laying a full TD on the road with a team that’s struggled away from home is asking plenty.
Miami is 2-1 ATS in its L3 as an underdog. The Dolphins don’t need to be pretty to cover this number, and nobody’s handing out extra points for style.
Seven points is a healthy cushion in a division game, especially when the favorite hasn’t traveled well.
I want Miami establishing the run and making New England defend long possessions. If the Dolphins can avoid early turnovers, they can shorten the game and keep the Patriots from pulling away.
The Patriots have the better offense, but that doesn’t automatically make them worth laying a TD. A slower game gives Miami a much better chance of staying inside the spread.
I’m not asking Willis to put on a passing clinic or Miami to suddenly look like a playoff team. Give me a competitive fourth quarter and that full TD in my pocket.
I’m playing Dolphins +7.
