Not only did the Giants lose their second game in as many weeks, they lost their star running back for the rest of the regular season on Sunday.
The 49ers at least got a win but didn’t escape without major injuries of their own.
San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco lost both Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas in the first quarter of Sunday’s 31–13 victory over the Jets.
Initial reports are that both guys may have ACL injuries, which would become a disaster for the Niners. Injuries can deplete a team but, even worse, injuries at the same position only expedite it.
Then San Fran lost quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Raheem Mostert for the second half. The status of both guys for Week 3 remains a mystery early in the week.
If Jimmy G can’t go, Nick Mullens will get his first start since 2018, when he went 3–5 as a rookie for the Niners before Garoppolo arrived.
Mostert, meanwhile, has a 75-yard touchdown and an 80-yard touchdown in the first two weeks of the season. He’s questionable with a knee injury.
So is George Kittle. The All-Pro tight end hasn’t played yet this season but there is hope he could return for this game. Among all the bad news, Kittle’s return could be a lift.
New York Giants
Barkley was horrendous in Week 1’s loss to Pittsburgh. His Week 2 was even worse.
On just his fourth carry of the game, Barkley tore his ACL and didn’t return. He is set to have season-ending surgery soon, according to reports.
The Giants met with Devonta Freeman this week and the former Atlanta Falcon could join a backfield that currently has Wayne Galman and Dion Lewis to run the ball.
Lewis scored on one of his ten carries (he had just twenty yards on those ten carries) but it was New York’s only one of the game.
Sterling Shephard has turf toe. He played in Week 2 but was hobbled and he’s considered highly questionable in the early week injury report.
NFL Betting Trends:

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Giants +4.5
The Niners opened as touchdown favorites before all the injury news from Week 2.
Assuming Garoppolo plays, San Francisco will still be most likely down Bosa, which makes things easier for Daniel Jones, who is a feast or famine quarterback.
The Giants’ passing game will be enough to pull a little bit of an upset.
