Steelers vs. Browns Gameday
The Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night with both AFC North rivals carrying 2-1 records into Week 4. Mike McCarthy’s Steelers are looking for their first road victory of the season, while Todd Monken’s Browns have won two straight and are unbeaten at Huntington Bank Field.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 PM ET on Prime Video. The forecast calls for warm conditions with some wind and cloud cover, although nothing that should dramatically alter the game plan.
Pittsburgh comes in after beating Cincinnati 30-27, with Aaron Rodgers throwing three TD passes in his best performance of the young season. The Steelers opened with a 20-13 win over Atlanta before taking a step backward in a 20-3 loss to New England.
Two 2-1 AFC North teams on a short week should provide the usual amount of neighborly affection.
Cleveland has responded nicely since its rough opener. The Browns followed a road victory over Tampa Bay with a 21-18 win over Carolina, giving them consecutive victories heading into their first divisional game.
There isn’t much separation in the AFC North entering Week 4, which gives this Thursday night matchup some early importance.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns Odds & Last 5
The opening odds have Pittsburgh favored at -145 on the moneyline, with Cleveland returning +122. The Steelers are laying 2.5 points on the road, while the Browns are getting +2.5 at home.
Pittsburgh bounced back from its 20-3 loss to New England by putting 30 points on Cincinnati. Rodgers and the offense finally generated some bigger plays after scoring only 23 combined points over the first two weeks.
Cleveland has taken the opposite route after opening with a 34-10 loss to Jacksonville.
The Browns responded by beating Tampa Bay 23-19 and Carolina 21-18. Cleveland’s defense made enough plays in both victories, and Watson has avoided the turnovers that can bury an offense in close games.
The rivalry has also been much tighter in Cleveland. The Browns won the most recent meeting at Huntington Bank Field 13-6, while Pittsburgh answered with a 23-9 victory at Acrisure Stadium.

Browns Stats
Cleveland has scored 54 points through three games, with Deshaun Watson throwing for 587 yards, five TD’s and only one interception. He’s completed better than 68% of his passes and has done a good job keeping Cleveland out of unnecessary trouble.
Quinshon Judkins leads the rushing attack with 124 yards on 42 carries. The Browns haven’t consistently produced big numbers on the ground, but the offense has found enough balance to win consecutive one-score games.
Cleveland’s defense has seven sacks through three weeks. Mason Graham has helped generate pressure from the interior, while Jared Verse gives the Browns another dangerous piece coming off the edge.
The offensive line is the bigger concern Thursday.
Center Elgton Jenkins and guard Teven Jenkins are both out, leaving Cleveland with some shuffling to do against Pittsburgh’s pass rush. Tytus Howard is available after practicing fully, and Grant Delpit is also cleared to play in the secondary.
That combination makes protection especially important. Watson has taken care of the football so far, but Pittsburgh has enough pressure up front to make that considerably tougher if Cleveland loses control of the line of scrimmage.
Steelers Stats
Pittsburgh is also 2-1 after finally getting more from its offense against Cincinnati. Rodgers has thrown for 700 yards with four TD’s and two interceptions through three starts, with three of those TD passes coming in Sunday’s victory.
Jaylen Warren has been productive on the ground, rushing for 216 yards on 38 carries and averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. That gives Pittsburgh another way to attack a Cleveland defense that would love to spend Thursday night chasing Rodgers.
The Steelers defense has eight sacks and three interceptions through three games. Pittsburgh also owns a +2 turnover differential, and those extra possessions matter even more in a divisional matchup with a relatively low total.
The secondary isn’t entering Cleveland at full strength.
Joey Porter Jr. is out, while Jalen Ramsey is questionable with a wrist injury and Brandin Echols is questionable after dealing with a concussion. Rico Dowdle is also out with a toe injury.
Pittsburgh still has enough defensive talent to create problems. T.J. Watt remains the obvious concern for a Cleveland offensive line missing two starters, and the Steelers don’t need to blitz recklessly to make Watson uncomfortable.
Steelers vs. Browns QB Matchup
Watson has completed 68.3% of his passes for 587 yards, five TD’s and one interception through three games. He hasn’t been asked to carry Cleveland every week, but protecting the football has helped the Browns rebound from their ugly opener.
His mobility also gives Pittsburgh something else to account for. With Cleveland dealing with injuries along the offensive line, Watson’s ability to escape pressure and create something outside structure could matter more than usual.
Rodgers enters with 700 passing yards, four TD’s and two interceptions. His 58.4% completion rate leaves room for improvement, but the Cincinnati game was a reminder that he can still punish a defense when Pittsburgh keeps him clean.
The short week puts additional pressure on both offensive lines.

Cleveland’s reshuffled interior has to deal with Watt and a Pittsburgh defense that has already generated eight sacks. On the other side, Rodgers faces a Browns front with seven sacks and enough speed to make a 42-year-old QB work for comfortable throwing lanes.
Turnovers could decide this before either offense gets particularly comfortable. Watson has thrown only one interception, while Pittsburgh has already shown it can turn takeaways into short fields.
Neither team needs to turn Thursday into a track meet.
The Steelers have the more experienced QB and are coming off their best offensive performance, while Cleveland has home field, two straight victories and a defense capable of keeping the score within reach.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns bottom line: Rodgers gives Pittsburgh the veteran edge and some fresh offensive momentum, but Watson’s ball security and Cleveland’s ability to grind through close games set up another tight AFC North fight.

Steelers Browns Free Pick: Browns +2.5
Here is my Steelers Browns free pick: I’m backing Browns +2.5.
Pittsburgh deserves some respect after Rodgers and the offense finally opened things up against Cincinnati. Still, asking the Steelers to cover a divisional road number on a short week is different from beating the Bengals at Acrisure.
Cleveland has won two straight and gets this one at home, where the Browns already knocked off Tampa Bay. Watson has protected the football with five TD’s against one interception, and that’s important in a game carrying a total in the high 30’s.
In a low-total AFC North fight, getting 2.5 at home gives Cleveland very little room to lose my ticket.
The Browns do have concerns up front with Elgton Jenkins and Teven Jenkins out. Pittsburgh has its own issues, though, with Joey Porter Jr. and Rico Dowdle out while Jalen Ramsey is questionable.
I expect the usual division-game ugliness, and that’s fine with me when I’m holding points at home. Give me Browns +2.5.
