Both the 49ers and Texans won their opening games. They both did it in different ways, however. The 49ers won with their three’s and fours’ while the Texans backups played pretty solid.
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers pulled off the victory in their opening game against the Dallas Cowboys. However, their one’s and two’s didn’t play well.
The 49ers struggled to run the ball, Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t look good, it was just a bad night overall. It’s nothing to overreact to or anything, it’s just an observation on how they looked against the Cowboys defense that looked pretty tenacious.
The 49ers defense didn’t look any better as Dak Prescott sliced and diced them up threw the air and Rod Smith was able to pop a couple of runs. It was a pretty easy ten play drive touchdown for the Cowboys.
There’s essentially nowhere to go but up for the 49ers. Everyone will have to play better, including C.J. Beathard who was awful. Nick Mullens will be pushing for his backup job if he can replicate his performance from last week only this time against real NFL players.
The Texans first team looked good from the sparse playing time they played in this one. Then their backups took over and they carried over some solid play.
Defensively, the Texans gave the Chiefs fits with their pass rush. Ironically, it was Chad Henne who finally led the Chiefs to a touchdown after throwing an interception on the previous series.
The Texans only had one sack, but they put pressure on the quarterback and got plenty of licks in. Duke Ejiofor, in particular, had three hits on the quarterback. Texans had a pretty good pass rush going.
Brandon Weeden isn’t anything special, but he played really well going 9/11 for 97 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans have a decent enough backup quarterback if Deshaun Watson goes down again.
NFL Betting Trends:
- 49ers are 3-2 ATS in their last five preseason games
- 49ers over is 4-0 in their last four preseason games
- Texans are 6-3 ATS in their last nine preseason games
- Texans under is 4-2 in their last six preseason games
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Texans -1.5
Just based on how both teams looked last week, I’ll take the Texans to win straight up, and may end up taking them to cover the spread depending on what the line is. The under might not be a bad bet either.
