NFC East action sees the Eagles on the road to face off with the Commanders on Sunday in the 1:00 window.
Philadelphia was able to win in week 2 and improved to 2-0 on the season while Washington dropped their game and now sits at 1-1.
Despite the season being so young, the perceptions of these two teams are totally different right about now. There is a lot of positivity and excitement regarding the Eagles and what their season could turn into while there does not appear to be a ton of optimism or buzz when it comes to the Commanders.
In this divisional tilt, Philadelphia is currently a 6.5-point road favorite which really is not all that surprising. There has been a drop in the over/under as it began at 50.5 and is now down to 47 in most shops.
Of course, there are other storylines and things to watch out for in this game, but one of the main things I will be wanting to see is how Carson Wentz does against his former team.
Philadelphia Eagles
After the Eagles made things a little too close for comfort in their opener with the Lions, they left no questions at all on Monday Night when they took care of the Vikings by a score of 24-7.
To me, their last game was an example of a game where the final score did not totally describe how much they dominated their opponent.
I understand that 24 points is nothing to go crazy over and they did have chances to score more than that, but they still controlled the game in every area from start to finish and really made Minnesota look clueless for the majority of it.
Offensively, Philadelphia looked quite balanced last time out as they were able to get solid contributions in both the passing and running game.
Jalen Hurts looked sharp and was clearly in a rhythm on Monday. He finished the night going 26/31 for 333 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
In his young career, he has received a lot of criticism and people have often questioned how good he can be in the NFL. There is no doubt he has been inconsistent at best since joining the league, but if he can put together performances like that more often, it is hard for me not to like what this team has going for them this season.
AJ Brown, who has quickly turned into Hurts’ favorite weapon, looked very impressive against the Vikings with 5 receptions for 69 yards while Devonta Smith had 7 catches for 80 yards. Over the years, Hurts has had some nice receivers to throw to, but being able to have a true #1 threat like Brown and a future #1 like Smith is huge for him and is going to be very important for his development.
Philly also looked impressive on defense last time out which is a good sign for them. I think a lot of people thought the offense would be just fine, but there were certainly question marks regarding the defense so keeping a solid Minnesota offense like that in check is something they will look to build off of.
The defense for this club did a good job of harassing Kirk Cousins all night long and they forced him to throw three picks on the night. Avonte Maddox picked up one of them and Darius Slay was able to get two. Overall, it was a strong performance by this unit against an offense that is very talented.
As they hit the road to face off with this Commander’s team, it is once again a very winnable ball game for them and the idea of them improving to 3-0 seems like a very likely scenario. Their opponent does have some talent and should not be taken lightly, but it really is one the Eagles should take care of business in if they play up to their capability.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders were not all that impressive in their last game with a 36-27 loss against a very beatable Detroit Lions team.
They did look better in the second half and were able to get a little more going on the offensive side of the ball, but it was just not enough to get it done. Given how poorly they looked in the first half, it was going to be very hard to actually come back and pull off that win.
Washington was very one-dimensional on offense against Detroit as the running game was essentially nonexistent. Antonio Gibson ran the ball 14 times for 28 yards which is just not acceptable against a defense that is improved yet still very vulnerable.
Carson Wentz was mostly effective against the Lions, but there were still some questionable decisions that he made which he is going to have to clean up or he will continue to be a quarterback that is plagued by inconsistency.
Curtis Samuel was the leading receiver on Sunday with 7 receptions for 78 yards and Terry McLaurin/ Jahan Dotson both had 4 catches on the afternoon. I did like what they were able to do on that side of the field to a degree, but it is not good enough to get a rhythm going when the game is already out of hand.
The defense, which had plenty of questions heading into the season, did not exactly look great in their last loss. It was not as if they allowed Jared Goff to put up some great stats, but they had a really hard time slowing down Amon-Ra St. Brown who went off for 9 receptions and 116 yards.
This unit does have some talent on it, but they are still going to have a very hard time this season containing teams especially when they have to face off with talented quarterbacks that have playmakers on offense. If they are not generating pressure on the opposing QB, it is hard for me to envision them having a ton of success on that side of the ball.
After playing two teams that really are not great to open their season, the Commanders are going to get a very big challenge when they play host to this Eagles group. If they are as one-dimensional on offense as they were against the Lions and allow Jalen Hurts a clean pocket on Sunday, it could end up being a long day for this team.

4* Free Week 3 NFL Betting Prediction: Commanders +6.5 (-110)
The Eagles are getting a lot of hype right now and I think a lot of it is justified, but I am not in love with laying these kinds of points with them on the road.
It was not all too long ago that this team had a very good opportunity to cover as a favorite against the Lions and did not do so. They did win that game, but it was certainly too close for comfort.
Look, Philadelphia is the better team here and it would not surprise me if they win the game, but I am not totally expecting this to be a one-sided affair.
Even after having a strong defensive performance against the Vikings, I am not totally sold on this defense and if Wentz is able to stay upright and get the ball to some of his skill players, then I feel the Commanders can put enough points on the board to keep this close.
Ultimately, I think the offense for the Eagles will be too much in this game for their opponent, but I do like Washington getting the points at home in this divisional matchup
