The Steelers were one of the other teams affected by the Tennessee Titans contracting Covid-19 last week. Though the postponed game may not affect the Steelers performance as much, seeing that there were no reports of positive tests.
The Eagles played on Sunday Night and while they did not look great, they finally earned a win over the 49ers. This win however, is diluted by the fact that the 49ers have a whole list of injuries.
Philadelphia Eagles
Against all odds, this Eagles team is actually now leading the NFC East. What a terrible division they are in where all four teams have a combined three wins. The only reason why the Eagles are in first is because they tied the Bengals in week three.
The Philadelphia offense only gained 267 total yards on Sunday Night and clearly were not in-sync. Carson Wentz threw for 193 yards, one touchdown, but also one interception. They did not have a true standout receiver, but Travis Fulgham, led the team with 57 receiving yards and had the lone receiving touchdown. Their rushing offense also did not do anything special, picking up just 93 yards.
Basically defense was where the Eagles won this game. They still allowed 417 total yards, but forced three turnovers. Their one fumble recovery set them up for the touchdown that gave them the lead and one of those interceptions was a pick-six that put the Eagles up by 11 points with just a few minutes to play.
They will need to improve their passing defense, seeing that George Kittle had 183 yards receiving yards by himself. The Steelers have plenty of weapons, so that will be a huge area of concern.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are off to a fast start, but the game postponed last week could lead them to come back a little underprepared. Though as an experienced NFL team, with a veteran coach, that might not be the case. Perhaps they are even more rested and will be ready for a underwhelming Philly side.
The offense is basically in the middle of the league, averaging 382 yards per game. This ranks 14th in the NFL. Passing wise, they rank 19th, but running the ball, they rank 9th. The Steelers should have plenty of success moving the ball anyway they want, but running the ball will certainly be a focus.
Defense has been more of a strength for the Steelers, allowing an average of 290 yards per game. That ranks 2nd in the league. Passing has been their only real “issue”, but they still rank 12th. As for their rushing defense, they allow 54 yards per game and rank 1st. The Eagles are not a scary offense, so Pittsburgh should have no trouble slowing them down.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Philadelphia are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games played in week 5.
- Philadelphia are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against Pittsburgh.
- Philadelphia are 12-5 SU in their last 17 games against Pittsburgh.
- Pittsburgh are 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Pittsburgh’s last 5 games against Philadelphia.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Under 45
It is easy to believe that the Steelers are the better team. However, after a week off, the Steelers could be a little rusty and the Eagles are playing with a divisional lead. As a result, I will back a defensive minded game and will look for this one to stay under the total.
