Something has to give when the 0-9 New York Jets visit the LA Chargers, who have dropped 7 of their last 8 games. The Chargers are big favorites with New York traveling across country, but can LA be trusted?
The Jets are zeroing in on the 2021 #1 draft pick as the only winless team in the NFL. They aren’t completely rolling over though, as evidenced by last week’s hard fought 30-27 loss to the Patriots last time out.
New York Jets
One thing about New York’s 3-point loss to the Patriots was that it was at home. The Jets have lost by 26, 24, and 29 points in their last three road losses, scoring a combined 16 points in those tilts.
The Chargers can push the ball up and down the field, boasting the #4 total offense in the league. That presents a huge challenge for New York, who boasts the NFL’s worst offense in total yards, passing yards, and points per game.

Making matters worse for New York trying to stay afloat in a shootout is QB shakiness. The bye last week might allow Sam Darnold to return from a shoulder injury, but it’s more likely that Joe Flacco gets another nod under center.
Flacco looked disinterested last time out, even in front of a national Monday Night Football audience. Flacco did have 262 yards and 3 TD, but couldn’t sustain drives that allowed New England to score 13 points in the final 6+ minutes.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers should be able to dominate in this one, as New York leaving the cold weather of the East Coast for a weekend in California is going to seem like a vacation for a winless team.
The question has to be asked though, how motivated are the Chargers to win at this point in the season? The Chargers are looking at a top 5 draft pick right now, but could fall to as low as 10th to 13th with the expected win.
L.A. has played pretty well despite their only win the last 8 games coming against one-win Jacksonville. All seven Chargers losses have come by one score or less.
The Chargers most recent loss came 29-21 on Sunday in a visit to Miami. Justin Herbert had two more TD passes for LA, giving the rookie 19 on the year, and that’s a great trend heading into a matchup with NYJ’s #29 pass defense.
