Vikings vs. Saints Gameday
The Minnesota Vikings visit the New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 PM ET on FOX.
Minnesota enters Week 5 at 4-0 under Kevin O’Connell, including two victories away from home. The Vikings have found ways to win without consistently impressive offensive production. Their defense has been doing enough heavy lifting to qualify for overtime pay.
New Orleans is 1-3 under Kellen Moore and still searching for its first home victory.
Minnesota brings the stronger defense and unbeaten record, while New Orleans desperately needs a complete performance.
The Vikings have won the last two meetings, including a 27-19 victory in November 2023. They also defeated the Saints 28-25 in London during the 2022 season, continuing their recent success in this matchup.
Both teams have something to establish Sunday. Minnesota wants to prove its early success can survive another road assignment, while New Orleans needs to show that its offense and defense can occasionally arrive at the same stadium ready to play. That shouldn’t be asking too much.
It’s Week 5, Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints Odds & Last 5
Minnesota opened as a 2-point favorite, with the Vikings at -131 on the moneyline and New Orleans at +110. The opening total is 42 points.
The Vikings defeated Miami 15-10 last Sunday, then looked back on a 23-16 victory over Tampa Bay the previous week. Neither performance featured much offensive fireworks, but Minnesota managed to get the job done. Apparently, the Vikings prefer keeping their fans nervous until the final whistle.
New Orleans is coming off a 45-24 loss to Atlanta on Monday night.
The Saints struggled to contain the Falcons throughout that contest, leaving Moore with a short week to address the defensive problems. Minnesota has been considerably more dependable, although its recent victories have left opponents within striking distance.
The spread reflects that contrast. Anyone comparing current numbers at their preferred sportsbooks should remember that even a small move matters when the opening number sits this close to a field goal. There isn’t much room for error on either side.

Saints Stats
New Orleans has scored 105 points through four games, averaging more than 26 per contest. The Saints are generating approximately 367 offensive yards per game, with their passing attack accounting for most of that production.
Chris Olave has caught 35 passes for 491 yards and one TD. Juwan Johnson has added 232 receiving yards and three TD’s, giving New Orleans another reliable target when defenses concentrate on Olave. The receiving talent is there, even if the overall results haven’t followed.
New Orleans can move the football, but its inability to consistently stop opponents keeps undermining that production.
The Saints have allowed 128 points, more than any other NFL team through four games.
Opponents are also averaging nearly 148 rushing yards, leaving New Orleans vulnerable to long possessions. That’s a problem against an opponent comfortable letting its defense do the heavy lifting.
Travis Etienne Jr. remains on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Alvin Kamara returned to limited participation Thursday with a back issue, while Olave was limited because of a foot problem. The Saints could certainly use some healthier options heading into Sunday.
Kaden Elliss and Anfernee Jennings missed practice, with Carl Granderson and Noah Fant limited. The Saints’ injury report is getting enough attention to deserve its own television slot.
Vikings Stats
Minnesota has allowed only 51 points through four games, the fewest in the league. Brian Flores’ defense has pressured opposing QB’s and consistently made scoring opportunities difficult to manufacture. That’s a useful foundation when the offense isn’t exactly setting attendance records in the end zone.
The Vikings have averaged only 156 passing yards per game, leaving their offense near the bottom of the NFL in that category.
Aaron Jones Sr. leads the rushing attack with 297 yards. T.J. Hockenson has contributed 22 receptions for 195 yards, providing an important underneath target when Minnesota needs a manageable completion.
Justin Jefferson remains a major availability concern after missing the Miami game with an ankle injury. He participated on a limited basis Thursday, while Jordan Addison also returned to limited work with a hamstring issue. Minnesota would certainly prefer having both receivers available for this matchup.
Christian Darrisaw missed another practice while working through concussion protocol.
Brian O’Neill was limited with a knee issue, adding another concern along the offensive line. Minnesota has managed its injuries well enough to remain unbeaten, but protecting the QB becomes more complicated when the starting tackles aren’t fully healthy.
Vikings vs. Saints QB Matchup
New Orleans QB Tyler Shough has thrown for 1,203 yards, nine TD’s and three interceptions through four games. He’s completed 121 of 180 attempts, giving the Saints one of the league’s more productive passing attacks.
Shough threw for 286 yards and one TD against Atlanta, although he took several hard hits. He also injured his non-throwing left hand during the contest. The good news for New Orleans is that he practiced fully Thursday and expects to play Sunday.
Minnesota’s aggressive defensive looks will challenge Shough’s ability to recognize pressure before the snap.
Vikings QB Kyler Murray has thrown for 433 yards, one TD and two interceptions in three appearances. He has also provided mobility outside the pocket, although Minnesota’s passing attack remains a work in progress.
Murray completed 27 of 37 passes for 247 yards against Miami, avoiding turnovers and showing better command of the offense. His ability to extend plays remains valuable, particularly when protection breaks down. Of course, running away from defenders isn’t much of a long-term blocking strategy.

The Vikings need Murray to continue developing chemistry with his receiving options, especially if Jefferson remains limited. Hockenson offers a dependable target, but Minnesota still needs more explosive plays through the air.
Shough has been the more productive passer this season, although the Saints’ protection will face a difficult assignment against Flores’ pressure packages.
Both QB’s have opportunities to influence the game in different ways. Shough needs to identify coverage quickly and avoid costly sacks, while Murray must use his mobility without turning manageable situations into unnecessary risks.
Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints bottom line: Minnesota’s defense presents a demanding challenge for Shough, while the Saints’ vulnerable defensive front gives Murray an opportunity to establish a more productive offensive rhythm.
Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints Football Betting Trends
- The Vikings have a perfect 9-0 straight-up record in their last nine regular season games.
- Additionally, in their last six regular season games as favorites, Minnesota is undefeated with a 6-0 record straight-up.
- The Vikings have covered the spread in all four of their recent away games during the regular season.
- On the other hand, the Saints have an impressive 7-0 record against the spread as underdogs in their last seven regular season games.
- Also, New Orleans has covered the spread in all five of their recent games with totals set at 42 or less.
- The Saints have a strong 8-2 record against the spread in their last ten regular season games.
Vikings Saints Free Pick: Saints +2
Here is my Vikings Saints free pick: New Orleans Saints +2. I’m taking the home dog because Minnesota’s perfect record comes with an offense that still hasn’t earned my trust. Four wins deserve respect, but sportsbooks don’t pay extra for a pretty standings column.
The Saints have covered seven straight as underdogs, and I like their opportunity to dictate the early pace inside the Superdome. Kellen Moore needs an aggressive opening script that puts Minnesota in the unfamiliar position of chasing points rather than protecting a lead. New Orleans has also covered five straight when the total is 42 or lower.
With this number, I’m expecting a game where one stalled drive or missed scoring opportunity can decide the spread. Those aren’t the games where I enjoy laying road points.
I’m willing to take the uglier record when the home underdog has a legitimate chance to win outright.
My biggest concern is New Orleans giving up cheap points, especially after Monday’s defensive disaster. If the Saints start missing tackles and handing Minnesota favorable field position, two points won’t provide much comfort.
I expect Moore to understand the urgency here and keep his foot on the gas rather than settling for a conservative afternoon. The Vikings have earned their unbeaten start, but this is a difficult spot to keep escaping with another narrow victory.
Give me the Saints +2.
