This week one matchup sees two teams from the NFC South battling it out when the Saints visit the Falcons.
Over the years, this has been a fairly one-sided rivalry as New Orleans has really owned their opponent for a long time now.
Across the league, there does not appear to be a ton of faith in Atlanta and it is hard to argue with that given their current situation. As far as the Saints go, there does seem to be cautious optimism with them, but they are still a team that has a lot of questions surrounding them and a lot to prove this year.
At the time of writing this, New Orleans is a 5.5-point road favorite with the total sitting at 44.5.
When these teams met a year ago, they split two games with the away team winning each time.
New Orleans Saints
A season ago, the Saints finished with a 9-8 mark but did not make the playoffs. It was not a bad season for them, but they will look to stay healthier this season and be more consistent in their play from start to finish.
New head coach Dennis Allen will look to lead his squad back to the postseason this year and he certainly does have a talented squad.
Before his injury in 2021, Jameis Winston started off the year strong as he threw for over 1100 yards and tossed 14 touchdown passes to just 3 picks. Despite being up and down in his career, there is reason to believe he can be strong in 2022 if he is out there.
The Saints do feature a talented offense with guys such as Michael Thomas, first-round pick Chris Olave, Jarvis Landry, Marquez Calloway, and Mark Ingram. Under normal circumstances, I would also mention Alvin Kamara, but his status is unknown at the moment due to some legal problems going on.
On the defensive side, this unit is very strong and they will look to put forth another solid season. Cam Jordan is the leader on that side of the field and is one of the more recognizable players they have, but there are some other key guys on D including Tyrann Mathieu and Demario Davis.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons head into this season without a lot of positivity and I have a feeling that is going to be the case with them for a long time.
Even with Matt Ryan as their quarterback a year ago, the hopes were not all that high and now they are sending Marcus Mariota out there to lead the offense. To that, I would say good luck.
In 2021, Atlanta finished with a 7-10 record which seemed like a miracle because they just were not a very good football team at all. When I watched them play a season ago, it was really hard to find anything they did particularly well.
Drake London, who got drafted out of USC this season looks to be the #1 receiver for the opening game and they also have tight end Kyle Pitts who was awfully impressive in his rookie season and was one of few bright spots for them last year.
One of the main issues for the Falcons a year ago was on defense. They would often give up lots of yardage and points and it looks like it could be more of the same for them in 2022.
I guess it is always possible this squad could really surprise some people out there, but I am not banking on that. The expectations are low for them and they are low for a reason.

4* Free Week 1 NFL Betting Prediction: Saints -5.5 (-110)
To me, I do not see this shaping out to be all that competitive of a game.
I have a ton of questions about the Falcons’ offense and I just have a hard time seeing them move the ball consistently against a very stout defense.
Winston has a very good opportunity to take advantage of a weak defense and given some of the guys he has at his disposal, I look for that to happen.
In this spot, I like the Saints laying the points on the road.
