New England is putting a nice run together with wins in consecutive games, and the Patriots can climb all the way back to .500 with a victory on the road at Houston on Sunday.
The Texans on the other hand have lost every game to teams not named the Jacksonville Jaguars this year. That doesn’t mean Houston isn’t deadly at home in this matchup however.
New England Patriots
One of New England’s wins over the last two weeks was expected – and it was ugly as the Patriots needed a 13-0 run in the 4th quarter to beat the Jets 30-27. Sunday night’s 23-17 win over the Ravens was very impressive however.
Cam Newton had a TD pass and another score on the ground Sunday to lead New England. The Patriots also got a 22 carry, 121 yard performance from Damien Harris but ultimately it was the New England defense that saved the day.

New England was able to hold on to a 23-10 lead midway through the 3rd quarter, holding Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore offense to just one more score the rest of the game.
The Patriots defense also stepped up in the win over the Jets, getting the ball back so New England could score three times in the final 6+ minutes at MetLife Stadium. That defense will be put to the test against Houston however.
Houston Texans
It’s hard to put much stock into Houston’s offensive performance last week in a 10-7 loss at Cleveland. It was a cold and windy day that saw no scoring in the 2nd or 3rd quarter, and both teams combined for under 280 yards passing.
Cleveland was able to get the win last week by running the ball 41 times for 231 yards, a strategy that New England will try to put in place in Sunday’s matchup as well. The Texans are last in the NFL vs. the run, giving up 167.4 ypg.
It will almost assuredly be a bounce back game for Deshaun Watson and the Houston offense as well. Even in horrible weather conditions, Watson completed 20/30 passes with a TD.
Watson has completed 70% or better of his passes in 3 of the last 5 games, and has 9TD to 0 INT the last four weeks. The Patriots do have a top 10 passing defense, but Watson has transcended matchups as of late.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Houston pull this one out at home, but so far they’ve only beaten Jacksonville this season. Bill Belichick did a decent job of reigning in Lamar Jackson last week, but Watson is a purer passer.
