This week nine matchup will see the undefeated New England Patriots travel to Maryland to take on the AFC North leading Baltimore Ravens.
The Patriots are coming off another dominant performance on the defensive side of the ball, while the Ravens are coming off their bye week.
New England Patriots
New England won their eighth game of the season when they beat the Cleveland Browns 27-13 this past Sunday. This was a very sloppy game that saw Brady and company not have to do much offensively to get the win.
The Patriots offense has just 318 total yards, much lower than their season average of 369.9. Tom Brady did not play his best game ever, but he threw for 259 yards and two touchdowns to Julian Edelman. The most important thing was he did not turn the ball over.

New England is still the top scoring offense in the league, averaging 31.2 points per game. Their rushing game is below average, 23rd in the league, but their passing game is 7th.
This game was more about the defense, that continues to dominate every game they play. The Patriots scored yet another defensive touchdown when they forced Nick Chubb to fumbled. They forced Chubb to fumble again on a long run he had to stop the Browns from scoring, while also picking off Baker Mayfield on a shovel pass.
The defense now allows an average of 7.6 points per game. This is by far the best in the NFL. They are 2nd in the NFL defending the pass and 4th in rush defense.
The key for the Patriots will be getting pressure on Lamar Jackson. If they can cause him to make some mistakes, the Patriots will likely move to 9-0.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens had their bye week this past week, meaning they have had plenty of time to come up with a game plan to beat the Patriots. Even with the extra time, they are going to have to play a near perfect game to beat this team.
Their last win came against the Seahawks when they won 30-16. Baltimore’s offense looked good in this game, but they have yet to play a defense like the Patriots.

In terms of offensive production, the Ravens are right behind the Patriots in offensive scoring. they average 30.6 points per game.
Their rushing game is where they excel, averaging 204.1 rushing yards per game. Lamar Jackson does a lot of this with his legs, but the main question is, “Can he do the same against an elite defense?”
I am not sure he will be as productive on the ground against this Patriots defense, meaning his arm is going to have to play a factor. The problem with that is the Ravens are 18th in the NFL in passing yards per game, so they have not yet shown much consistency in this area.
Now talking about the Ravens defense, they have some holes. Especially in the secondary, the Ravens are allowing 265.4 yards per game. This ranks 26th in the NFL and could be a major issue going up against Brady. The Ravens did just acquire Marcus Peters, who had a pick-six against Seattle, but it would much more rare for Brady to make a mistake like that.
The Ravens do have the ability to stop the run, allowing 84.3 yards per game and ranking 3rd in the NFL.
The key to an upset is being able to score consistently on this defense. That may sound like an obvious statement, but the Ravens have the play-makers to put up points in a hurry and I think they will have to score in the high 20’s to defeat New England.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Road team is 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
- NE are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. AFC.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: New England Patriots -4
The Patriots may be playing in a hostile environment, but their defense is too good and I think they will win this game. Tom Brady is going to pick apart a bad secondary and the Patriots are my pick to win and cover the spread.
