This week seven game will see the Los Angeles Chargers take on the Tennessee Titans.
Both teams are coming off ugly losses and will be looking to bounce back in this game.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers played about as bad as they could this past Sunday Night. They just lost 24-17 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the game was never really that close. The Steelers led 21-0 at halftime and then the Chargers decided to finally show up at the end of the game and got their points.
Phillip Rivers was very out of sync in this game, going 26 of 44 (59%). He managed to throw for 320 yards, and two touchdowns, but also had two interceptions. He also fumbled less than five minutes into the game which resulted in a touchdown for Pittsburgh.
A ton of his yards came when the Steelers were basically playing a prevent defense, so take his stat-line with a grain of salt.
You would think that the return of Melvin Gordon would have provided a boost to the offense, but the exact opposite happened. He had 18 yards rushing on 7 carries, so not exactly the Melvin Gordon that viewers were looking for.
Since one of Pittsburgh’s touchdown came from their defense, the Chargers defense actually only allowed 17 points. They allow an average of 19.7 points per game, so in this regard, they are still a top 10 scoring defense.
They also allowed just 256 yards in this game, however they were unable to contain James Conner. Conner had a combined 119 yards and two touchdowns.
This spells trouble because the Titans have Derrick Henry. If they can slow him down, they will have a good chance to win this game however, because the quarterback situation in Tennessee is a mess.
The Titans easily played their worst game of the season as they were shut out by the Denver Broncos. The final score to this game was 16-0.
The Titans put up a total of 204 yards and that is basically it. They had 39 rushing yards and 165 passing yards combined between two quarterbacks.
Yes, Marcus Mariota was benched in this game after going 7 of 18 with 63 yards passing and two interceptions. Ryan Tannehill came on and went 13 of 16, but threw for only 144 yards and he also had one interception.
When your leading rusher had 28 yards on 15 carries, you know that it was not your day. I am talking about Derrick Henry, who has looked good at times so far this season, but was not able to do anything against the Broncos.
Seeing that Pittsburgh had some success in the running game, should at least give the Titans something to work with this week in practice.
The defense was actually very solid for the Titans as they held Denver to only 270 yards. One would think that only giving up 16 points and holding your opponent to just one touchdown and three field goals would be enough to keep your team in the game, but the Titans are another story.
The Tennessee defense is now top 10 in total yards allowed per game, passing yards per game, and points allowed per game.
With how Phillip Rivers looked on Sunday Night, the Titans should be able to slow him down just like the Steelers did, thus keeping them in the game.
NFL Betting Trends:
- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of LA Chargers’ last 5 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Tennessee’s last 5 games.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: UNDER 38
It is possible that Mariota could get benched for this game and that has me skeptical of taking the Titans. However on the flip side, I want no part of this Chargers team.
That said, I have to lean to the under because I have no faith that both teams are going to be able to go up and down the field. The Titans will be lucky to even score 14 in this game given how bad they looked against Denver and my pick is the under.
