The Chargers are looking for a sharper performance than a week ago where they needed overtime as a favorite to best Indy.
Detroit let Arizona back into the game and notched a tie to start their season.
They needed that win and this home game is likely not going to give them their first one.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have a ton of injuries and Melvin Gordon is still a handout so it was all about taking care of business last Sunday. They were favored and got the win…Next.
Who knows how long Gordon will be away from the team. Without him they did not rush the ball a ton and they were effective enough for Philip Rivers to slice and dice the Colts. RB Austin Ekeler had three combined TD’s and a lot of touches.
The San Diego defense was shredded on the ground by Colts last week. That group needs to be better but their bookends, Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, both got sacks.
I am not sure how much their injury situation is going to improve this week. The guy they miss the most is probably Derwin James. He is one of the best safeties in the game.
If the Chargers are mistake free on Sunday they should get the win.
Even though Green Bay and Detroit might have looked off in their opener there is no doubt that Detroit is the weak link in the NFC North. They needed a win in their opener and kind of blew it.
A tie is better than a loss but they should have been able to hold on against a first year head coach and first year starter at quarterback. Seems like a classic case of letting the foot off the gas too soon.
When they had the ball Matt Stafford and the passing game looked really good. He had over 300 yards and 3 TDs. Also looking good was rookie TE TJ Hockenson, who had over 100 yards receiving. The running game was not very effective.
Devon Kennard has three sacks against Arizona and the team five but that was with a rookie signal caller. Getting Rivers to the ground is much more difficult.
Stafford can try and keep the Lions in this game with his arm but the defense has to show that it can play well when it needs to for them to get the win at home.
NFL Betting Trends:

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Chargers -2.5
Take the Chargers on the road in this one. Rivers outplays Stafford while the rest of the teams might be pretty even otherwise.
NFL Free Week 2 Score Prediction: Los Angeles 27 – Detroit 20
Until they prove me otherwise I am going to fade the Lions and their defense. They need to be able to hold leads before we can look at backing them even against the number.
